Vice President JD Vance slammed left-leaning host Margaret Brennan during an interview that aired on Sunday for claiming that Afghan refugees who were admitted into the U.S. under former President Joe Biden were &#8220;vetted.&#8221;
Vance made the remarks during an appearance on the network&#8217;s &#8220;Face The Nation&#8221; show.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t agree that all these immigrants, or all these refugees have been properly vetted,&#8221; Vance said. &#8220;In fact, we know that there are cases of people who allegedly were properly vetted and then were literally planning terrorist attacks in our country.&#8221;
&#8220;That happened during the campaign, if you may remember,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;So, clearly, not all of these foreign nationals have been properly vetted.&#8221;
&#8220;My primary concern as the vice president, Margaret, is to look after the American people,&#8221; he added. &#8220;And now that we know that we have vetting problems with a lot of these refugee programs, we absolutely cannot unleash thousands of unvetted people into our country. It&#8217;s not good.&#8221;
Brennan then falsely claimed that all of the Afghan migrants were &#8220;vetted.&#8221;
&#8220;These people are vetted,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;These people are vetted.&#8221;
Vance responded: &#8220;Just like the guy who planned a terrorist attack in Oklahoma a few months ago? He was allegedly properly vetted, and many people in the media and the Democratic Party said that he was properly vetted. Clearly, he wasn&#8217;t.&#8221;
&#8220;I don&#8217;t want my children to share a neighborhood with people who are not properly vetted,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And because I don&#8217;t want it for my kids, I&#8217;m not going to force any other American citizens&#8217; kids to do that either.&#8221;
Brennan then tried to argue that the terrorist could have been radicalized in the U.S. so it may not have mattered whether he was vetted.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t really care, Margaret,&#8221; Vance responded. &#8220;I don&#8217;t want that person in my country, and I think most Americans agree with me.&#8221;

The Trump State Department has ordered a stop to flights transporting refugees who had been approved to emigrate to the United States.
On Monday, President Donald Trump issued an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/realigning-the-united-states-refugee-admissions-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive order</a> suspending the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). The statement from the White House declared, “Over the last 4 years, the United States has been inundated with record levels of migration, including through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). &#8230; The United States lacks the ability to absorb large numbers of migrants, and in particular, refugees, into its communities in a manner that does not compromise the availability of resources for Americans, that protects their safety and security, and that ensures the appropriate assimilation of refugees.  This order suspends the USRAP until such time as the further entry into the United States of refugees aligns with the interests of the United States.”
“Within 90 days of this order, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Secretary of State, shall submit a report to the President through the Homeland Security Advisor regarding whether resumption of entry of refugees into the United States under the USRAP would be in the interests of the United States,” the executive order added.

“The U.S. agency overseeing refugee processing and arrival told staff and stakeholders that ‘refugee arrival to the United States have been suspended until further notice,’” the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/refugees-flights-trump-immigration-border-resettlement-33ebaa34bc4d0c069a22ee7aa5f8ff6d" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“Over 3.6 million refugees have entered the US since 1975 — more than the population of Utah,” <a href="https://x.com/USAFacts/status/1829179760141901911">USA Facts</a> noted. “After hitting a 40-year annual low of 11,411 during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, over 60,000 refugees entered the country in 2023, the most since 2016. By June 30, 2024, the annual total had already eclipsed that at 68,000.”
In 2021, at the end of his first term, President Trump implemented a limit of 15,000 incoming refugees with restrictions on refugees from countries such as Somalia, Syria, and Yemen, but soon after that, in April 2021, former President Biden threw those restrictions out and raised the limit to 62,500 per year, later raising that number to 125,000 per year.

Former German Chancellor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/angela-merkel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Angela Merkel</a> is facing intense backlash, including from her own political party, over a new memoir she wrote that is a nightmare for German political parties looking to stop the ascending right-wing AfD party.
She wrote the book hoping to &#8220;secure her crumbling legacy,&#8221; The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/angela-merkel-wants-her-memoir-to-save-her-legacy-its-backfiring-509b30c5?st=W9jzbM&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, noting that &#8220;the effort is backfiring.&#8221;
The more than 700-page book was &#8220;riling up even some of her most ardent supporters&#8221; because she does not believe that any of her failed policies were bad for the country — including allowing millions of Muslim refugees from the Middle East to be resettled in Germany.
Powerful German state broadcaster ARD titled the headline of their report on her book: “Much pride, little self-reflection.”
Merkel’s Christian Democratic Party blame her directly for the problems that the country is facing and they say that her memoir is making things even worse.
“The publication of this unrepentant, self-righteous book at a time of economic and political turmoil like this is hurting [her political party],” said former senior Merkel official Nico Lange.

The report said that her approval rating has plummeted from her time as a popular elected official to someone that the German public has turned against. Her allies overseas have abandoned support for her, the report said.
The most shocking part of the report focused specifically on her retelling of why she allowed millions of Muslim refugees into Germany.
Merkel said that it was &#8220;fully irrelevant whether they had a right to stay in Germany or not&#8221; when she let them enter the country.
She then blamed the German people for the problems that the refugees have caused:

The report noted that the phrase that Merkel repeatedly used to justify her failed policies — that she had &#8220;no alternative&#8221; but to do what she did — served as the inspiration for the Alternative for Germany, or AfD.
The AfD is rapidly growing and is now the country&#8217;s second-largest party.

As Somali refugees in Minnesota waged gang wars and engaged in child sex trafficking, Governor Tim Walz pushed for even more refugees to be resettled in his state.
Walz, whom Vice President Kamala Harris tapped as her running mate this week, petitioned the Trump administration to send more refugees to Minnesota in 2019, even though the state already had the <a href="https://www.ilcm.org/latest-news/refugees-in-minnesota-quick-facts/">highest number of refugees</a> per capita in the United States. The call came as Somali refugees, a large and growing population in Minnesota, engaged in gang warfare, child sex trafficking, and later, hundreds of millions of dollars of fraud.
“Minnesota has a strong moral tradition of welcoming those who seek refuge. Our state has always stepped forward to help those who are fleeing desperate situations and need a safe place to call home,” Walz <a href="https://mn.gov/governor/assets/EO%2013888_MNGovernorConsent_tcm1055-413054.pdf">wrote</a> in a letter to then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. “I offer my consent to continue refugee resettlement in the State of Minnesota.”
Walz&#8217;s request was a response to former President Donald Trump&#8217;s move to <a href="https://www.mprnews.org/story/2019/12/13/inn-is-not-full-in-minnesota-walz-backs-continued-refugee-settlement">allow states</a> and localities to deny increased refugee resettlement in their communities. Walz, who had previously pushed for Minnesota to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tim-walz-pushed-for-minnesota-to-become-sanctuary-state-gave-illegal-immigrants-drivers-licenses">become a sanctuary state</a>, has a long record of supporting unfettered immigration. His record on immigration has come under increased scrutiny after Harris named him to the Democratic presidential ticket.
“Refugees strengthen our communities. Bringing new cultures and fresh perspectives, they contribute to the social fabric of our state,” Walz said in his letter to Pompeo.
But Somali refugees brought more than fresh perspectives to Minnesota. Since at least <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/rise-of-somali-gangs-plagues-minneapolis/">2009</a>, members of Minneapolis&#8217;s Somali refugee community have <a href="https://www.mprnews.org/story/2009/05/29/young-somali-men-escape-homeland-but-not-violence">formed</a> gangs along the same clan lines that plunged Somalia into civil war. Members of the gangs — many of whom fled Somalia to escape clan warfare — engaged in what appeared to be targeted murders against one another. In 2008 the Minneapolis Police Department <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna32010471">created</a> a special Somali Liaison position in an attempt to stem the violence.
In 2012, authorities uncovered a <a href="https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2012/04/05/sex-trafficking-trial-faces-series-of-delays/">Somali child sex trafficking ring</a> operating out of Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as Columbus, Ohio and Nashville, Tennessee. Multiple girls under the age of 14 had been forced into prostitution by three different Somali gangs, resulting in the 30 different defendants — many of whom were allowed into the United States as refugees — being charged by federal authorities.
Violence between rival Somali gangs has continued to plague Minnesota in recent years, particularly in Minneapolis’ Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, now referred to as “Little Mogadishu.” Violent crime in the area soared <a href="https://tennesseestar.com/news/minneapolis-little-mogadishu-sees-56-percent-increase-in-violent-crimes-caused-by-somali-gangs/agockowski/2019/01/02/">a whopping 56 percent</a> in 2018, with authorities attributing the rise to gangs like the Somali Outlaws, the Somali Mafia, the Hot Boyz, and Madhibaan with Attitude.
A YouTube personality <a href="https://alphanews.org/youtuber-goes-inside-a-somali-gang-war-in-minneapolis/">visited</a> Minneapolis this year to document the gang warfare interviewed a bail bondsman and bounty hunter who said that &#8220;Somali gangs are taking over.&#8221;
During Walz&#8217;s tenure, Somali migrants in Minnesota <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/2024-election/2024/08/06/tim-walzs-dept-of-education-let-somali-migrant-fraudsters-steal-250-million-from-needy-kids/">defrauded the government</a> out of a quarter of a billion taxpayer dollars intended to feed impoverished children. Nearly 50 defendants created a fraudulent organization called “Feeding Our Future,&#8221; and multiple subsidiary organizations that defrauded $250 million from a coronavirus relief program. Only $50 million of those funds have been recovered.
Somalis were the <a href="https://www.startribune.com/increase-in-refugees-resettling-in-minnesota-with-more-on-the-way-biden-obama-trump-immigration/600331694#:~:text=Somalis%20make%20up%20the%20largest,Minnesota%20in%20fiscal%20year%202023.&amp;text=Minnesota%20saw%20a%20surge%20in,up%20from%20258%20in%202021.">largest refugee population</a> in the North Star State as of 2023. The overall number of refugees set to be resettled in 2024 is expected to surge from 1,500 to 2,400. Over 13,000 Somali refugees were accepted into Minnesota <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/minnesota-somali-american-population-good-question/">between</a> 2005 and 2018, and the state had 69,000 Somali residents as of 2019, accounting for about 40 percent of all Somalis residing in the entire United States.
Recent public opinion surveys have found that immigration is one of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/voters-say-immigration-is-top-issue-facing-country-biden-faces-widespread-disapproval-on-immigration">most important issues</a> for voters heading into the November election, and that an increasing share of Americans are in favor of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/majority-of-americans-want-fewer-immigrants-poll-finds">slashing immigration</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/majority-of-americans-support-building-border-wall-increasing-deportations-penalizing-businesses-that-hire-illegal-immigrants">ramping up mass deportations</a>.

Democratic Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania is under fire over a White House proposal to resettle Palestinian refugees in the United States.
Dave McCormick, the Republican challenger for Casey’s Senate seat, released an ad blasting Casey and President Joe Biden over the proposal, which would <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/palestinian-refugees-us-gaza-white-house/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allow</a> Palestinians in Egypt with immediate family members with permanent residence in the U.S. to immigrate. 
“It’s crazy,” says the 30-second ad, titled “Bob Casey is too Dangerous for Pennsylvania.” “The countries next door to Gaza say it’s not worth the risk, but Biden wants to bring them here.”

Israel’s war against Hamas, launched after the Palestinian terrorist group’s October 7 attack on Israel, has displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in Gaza. Despite Hamas’ brutality, the terror group <a href="https://www.fdd.org/analysis/2024/03/22/poll-hamas-remains-popular-among-palestinians/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">enjoys</a> widespread approval among Palestinians, according to polling.
Polling results from the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research released in March found that support for Hamas has increased among Palestinians since October 7, especially among those who live in the Gaza Strip. More than two-thirds, 71%, of all Palestinians support Hamas’ decision to attack Israel on October 7. During the attack, terrorists killed roughly 1,200 people in Israel and took hundreds more captive, including U.S. citizens.

The Biden administration has increasingly pressured Israel to provide aid for Palestinians and work toward a ceasefire with Hamas. 
The other U.S. Senate seat from Pennsylvania is filled by Casey’s Democratic colleague, Sen. John Fetterman. Fetterman has distinguished himself among Democrats in recent months with his outspoken support for Israel during its war on Hamas. The senator reiterated last month that he holds Hamas responsible for the war in Gaza.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mark-green" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mark Green</a> (R-TN) issued a subpoena to Homeland Security Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alejandro-mayorkas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alejandro Mayorkas</a> on Tuesday over documents related to the screening of the tens of thousands of Afghans the Biden administration brought into the U.S. during the August 2021 withdrawal from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/afghanistan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Afghanistan</a>. 
Green and other House lawmakers have been investigating how the Biden administration screened the more than 76,000 Afghans flown into the U.S. for resettlement as the military left Afghanistan and the Taliban took over. According to Green, Mayorkas has not provided all of the documents requested, including DHS communications on vetting the evacuees, documents which were requested 160 days ago. 
“In the wake of the Biden administration’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan, the country has once again become a breeding ground for foreign terrorist organizations under Taliban rule, and the Committee is still seeking answers on how the Biden administration vetted those entering the United States following the withdrawal,” Green’s office said in a press release. 
Green’s <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/2023-10-31-Subpoena-re-Afghanistan-Screening-and-Vetting.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoena</a> stipulates that Mayorkas is to appear before the committee on November 7 at the Ford House Office Building in Washington, D.C., at 12:00 p.m. 
“On October 20, 2023, the Department provided a partial production containing limited data on Afghan evacuees. Although the production contained 1,601 pages, it is wholly inadequate. For example, 150 pages were either wholly redacted, devoid of content, or illegible. Further, many of the remaining pages appear to be nothing more than scanned printouts from spreadsheets of data that were provided in a format that rendered them indecipherable,” Green wrote in a <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/2023-10-31-Green-to-Mayorkas-DHS-re-Subpoena-Afghan-Screening-and-Vetting.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Mayorkas. 
The lawmakers&#8217; investigation into the screening of the evacuees comes after stories that some of the Afghans brought into the U.S. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/afghan-refugees-face-federal-charges-after-trying-to-rape-child-strangle-woman-in-wisconsin-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faced charges</a> of attempted rape of a minor and other physical abuse in addition to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-dozens-of-afghan-evacuees-flagged-for-potential-terror-ties-two-shipped-out-of-u-s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dozens being flagged</a> for potential terror ties.

“While the produced documents provide some basic information regarding Afghan evacuees, they fall well short of what was requested by the Committee. For example, the Department failed to produce a single e-mail or other communication from Department employees related to the withdrawal from Afghanistan or Customs and Border Protection’s screening, vetting, or inspection of Afghan evacuees at U.S. ports of entry,” Green added in his letter. 
Last year, the Inspector General for DHS released a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ig-report-blasts-bidens-homeland-security-for-improperly-vetting-afghan-refugees" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scathing report</a> that said that the agency “may have admitted or paroled individuals into the United States who pose a risk to national security and the safety of local communities.”
At least two Afghan evacuees were shipped out of the U.S. after they were initially let in, while State Department officials have also investigated adult male Afghan evacuees who had child “brides” with them at processing centers in the U.S. and the United Arab Emirates. U.S. military bases that housed the evacuees <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-military-bases-incurred-millions-in-damages-after-hosting-afghan-evacuees-during-bidens-withdrawal-report-finds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">incurred millions of dollars</a> in damages, making some facilities unusable for U.S. soldiers.

The <a href="https://tiffany.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/tiffany.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/gaza_act_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> came as the two introduced the <a href="https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx?&amp;cid=WI07TT&amp;crop=15338QQQ17033760QQQ5347212QQQ7259302&amp;report_id=&amp;redirect=https%3a%2f%2fwww.congress.gov%2fbill%2f118th-congress%2fhouse-bill%2f5959%3fs%3d4%26r%3d1&amp;redir_log=128418084817473" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Guaranteeing Aggressors Zero Admission</a> or GAZA Act to ensure that supporters of the terrorist organization Hamas are not allowed into the U.S. as refugees.
“Like many Americans, we are concerned about the possibility that the Biden administration may be mulling plans to bring large numbers of Palestinians into the United States. As you know, at least one Democratic House member has already called for the wide-scale resettlement of Palestinians in American communities,” the Republican lawmakers wrote to Mayorkas.
Tiffany and Ogles said that the GAZA Act was necessary in light of the Hamas terror attacks against Israel that left over 1,400 dead &#8212; including women and children.
While the Biden administration has not announced any plans to fly large numbers of Palestinians out of Gaza, they have not ruled it out yet. Ogles and Tiffany pointed to the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal and mass evacuations that led to large numbers of Afghans entering the U.S. who had not been thoroughly vetted.
“The chaotic resettlement of more than 76,000 Afghans in the wake of the fall of Kabul, for example, resulted in countless Afghans who played no role whatsoever in assisting American forces during the war winding up in the United States. In other cases, we saw Afghans with past criminal convictions – including individuals who had been previously deported – making their way on to evacuation flights, and the resettlement of others who went on to commit appalling crimes ranging from assault to sexual abuse of minors,” the letter said.
The lawmakers say that they do not want the Biden administration to use “categorical parole” to let Palestinians into the U.S. amid Israel’s war with Hamas.
“Mr. Secretary, the American people do not want to see this dangerous situation repeated with Palestinians. Moreover, they deserve more than a vague assurance from a White House spokesman that the Biden administration hasn’t yet identified a legally dubious mechanism to flood American neighborhoods with foreigners from a region that is a global hotspot for Islamic terrorism,” the letter said.

On Wednesday, Ogles reacted to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-u-s-govt-hired-a-pro-hamas-plo-spokeswoman-to-handle-asylum-claims" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Wire investigation</a> that found that the U.S. immigration enforcement agency hired a former spokeswoman for the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and put her in a position to determine who gets to come into the country as an immigrant or “asylum seeker.”
The official, Nejwa Ali, also repeatedly posted pro-Hamas messaging on her social media, writing, “F*** Israel and any Jew who supports Israel&#8221; in the wake of the terrorist attacks.

The number of people boarding flights from airports in Texas&#8217;s illegal immigration hot-zone skyrocketed in 2021 even as business plummeted at almost all other airports because of the coronavirus pandemic, a Daily Wire review of newly released Federal Aviation Administration <a href="https://www.faa.gov/airports/planning_capacity/passenger_allcargo_stats/passenger" target="_blank" rel="noopener">data</a> found.
The records as analyzed present a pattern that could suggest the scale at which the Biden administration and federally-supported charities have been moving illegal immigrants around the country.
Despite a <a href="https://www.bts.gov/newsroom/full-year-2021-and-december-2021-us-airline-traffic-data#:~:text=U.S.%20airlines%20carried%20674%20million,(369%20million%2C%20unadjusted).">surge</a> in airline traffic of more than 80% when compared to 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions imposed in response to it, total air travel was still down nearly 30% from pre-pandemic levels in 2021 with most airports. Los Angeles International Airport saw 19 million fewer passengers board compared to 2019. The Atlanta airport, San Francisco airport, and New York&#8217;s JFK all saw about 16 million fewer people board outbound flights.
While the vast majority of airports lost passengers from 2019 to 2021, among the 22 airports that grew the fastest were those in the Rio Grande Valley that play a key role in the federal government&#8217;s migrant-moving operation: Brownsville, McAllen, Harlingen, and Laredo. The number of passengers boarding flights out of those airports rose from 978,000 in 2019 to 1,110,000 in 2021.
But even that 132,000-person increase may understate the growth of traffic at these airports. If ordinary Americans stopped using those airports in 2021 due to coronavirus at the same rate they did elsewhere, the surplus over the expected 2021 figure (70% of 2019&#8217;s total) could be as high as 425,000.
In addition, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio registered 13,000 outbound passengers in 2021, compared to only 936 in 2019 and 247 in 2018.
As coronavirus restrictions continued to lock down much of the country and made air travel difficult for most people in 2021, two groups appeared to travel in such great quantities that their journeys stand out glaringly in national statistics. The first group was illegal immigrants, which the federal government flew throughout the country on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/aircraft-records-reveal-secret-migrant-flights-across-u-s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secret, late-night flights</a> to be settled in communities across the country, often without any notice to local elected representatives.
The second group was wealthy elites who seemed to want to hide out the pandemic in luxury resorts, with the airports at Jackson Hole, Martha&#8217;s Vineyard, and Key West showing huge increases. Those two groups collided this month when Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) flew 50 migrants who first showed up in Texas to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/marthas-vineyard-state-rep-boasts-of-welcoming-50-immigrants-ted-cruz-fires-now-try-4-2-million" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Martha’s Vineyard</a>, a community of summer homes for wealthy progressives. Local leaders on the island declared a “crisis” and military officials quickly moved the migrants to a military base.
“This data illuminates the contempt that the Biden administration holds for those who oppose their agenda. After spending nearly two years quietly flying illegal immigrants all over the country, the Biden administration now wants to call Republican governors ‘human traffickers’ for giving them a taste of their own medicine. Shame on them,” Rep. Dan Bishop (R-North Carolina), a member of the Committee on Homeland Security and its Border Security subcommittee, said of The Daily Wire&#8217;s findings.
&#8220;It’s important to remember that Biden has been secretly flying illegal aliens late at night under the cover of darkness for over a year. Democrats, celebrities, and the media didn’t care about any of these flights until Governor DeSantis sent 50 illegals to Martha’s Vineyard,” RJ Hauman, director of government relations and communications at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which advocates for immigration controls, told The Daily Wire.
“Biden can learn from how Martha’s Vineyard responded — they essentially deported all the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/immigration-records-went-missing-false-impression-backlog" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegal aliens</a> who were transported there within 24 hours. Start doing that down at the border and the crisis will end,&#8221; he said.
The Daily Wire previously chronicled the flight paths of dozens of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/aircraft-records-reveal-secret-migrant-flights-across-u-s">charter aircraft</a> believed to be ferrying migrants within the U.S. ICE has long flown illegal immigrants throughout the country on their way to being deported, but more recently, the Department of Health and Human Services&#8217; Office of Refugee Resettlement has used charter planes to settle them in places such as Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Westchester, New York.
One landed in Knoxville, Tennessee, a week after Gov. Bill Lee, a Republican, demanded that the Biden administration “secure the border and stop scattering children across the country.”
Others&#8217; journeys are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/as-dems-rage-against-catholic-church-biden-admin-pays-it-huge-bucks-to-care-for-migrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fueled by nonprofits</a> like Catholic Charities, whose federal funding for refugee services has skyrocketed under the Biden administration.
<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/texas-footage-single-adult-migrants-released-us" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> has captured video of single, adult males in Brownsville being placed in buses or cabs and taken to the Harlingen airport. Some migrants said they had crossed the border just that morning after paying smugglers. They would be boarding flights to Miami, Houston, or Atlanta, they said.

One year after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan left the country in the hands of the Taliban and left vast quantities of military equipment behind, China and Russia are now cultivating ties with the country, according to a new government report.
That means the White House’s military retreat has empowered Russia even as President Joe Biden steers billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine to use against <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/was-biden-calling-for-regime-change-in-russia-after-sunday-mass-the-president-tells-reporters-no">Vladimir Putin</a>, who he said &#8220;cannot remain in power.&#8221;
“Russia is probably providing aid to the Taliban in an effort to further develop relations and persuade decision-makers in Kabul to address Moscow’s security concerns,” a joint DHS, DOS, and USAID <a href="https://www.oversight.gov/sites/default/files/oig-reports/DoD/LEAD-INSPECTOR-GENERAL-OPERATION-FREEDOM%E2%80%99S-SENTINEL-AND-OPERATION-ENDURING-SENTINEL-APRIL-1-2022-%E2%80%93.PDF">Inspector General report</a> said, noting that Russia has, for example, donated 17 tons of medical aid to the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense.
Afghanistan has long served as a chess piece in games between Washington and Moscow. In 1979, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan to back a Communist government there. It took control of much of the country for a decade, a <a href="https://history.state.gov/milestones/1977-1980/soviet-invasion-afghanistan">major event</a> of the Cold War.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-family-sought-to-make-money-by-giving-china-preferential-access-to-us-energy">China</a> made the decision to accept diplomatic credentials of Taliban reps and permit them to operate the Afghan Embassy in Beijing, likely out of a desire to “gain influence with the Taliban,” the report said. Citing the Department of State, it said China wants to connect Afghanistan to China with a railroad “and is also concerned about Afghanistan harboring terrorists and Chinese separatists. In its effort to deepen relations with the Taliban, the PRC government has promoted business opportunities in Afghanistan to PRC businesses, including in the natural resources sector.&#8221; It added that China “openly provided humanitarian aid directly to the Taliban.”
It said the U.S. has provided more than $567 million in humanitarian assistance to independent organizations — not the Taliban — but the efficacy of that money is restricted by Taliban orders. Even as it fights over access to $3.5 billion in its central bank, it has doled out “punitive measures” to NGOs pouring assistance into the country, and at least four aid workers were detained on allegations of corruption when their organizations resisted Taliban restrictions, it said.
&#8220;The Taliban earlier this year revived a policy framework from the Ghani administration called the &#8216;Monitoring and Control Plan of NGOs.&#8217; If implemented fully, the plan would essentially turn NGOs into quasi-government agencies, allowing the Taliban to review and approve their activities, according to a draft of the plan,&#8221; it continued.
The Taliban has discouraged programs meant to deter violence against women, and has demanded that female international aid workers be accompanied by a male chaperone, making it difficult to staff the roles and requiring them &#8221; to budget for travel, daily living expenses, and accommodations for male chaperones to accompany female staff members to training, workshops, and project site visits.&#8221;
It also reviews all health-related educational materials, demanding that they do not portray women without their faces and bodies covered, it said.
Meanwhile, the Taliban is now in control of billions of dollars in U.S. defense equipment abandoned by U.S. forces.
Since 2005, the U.S. spent nearly $19 billion on weapons and equipment for Afghanistan military forces, and much $7 billion worth left there after the withdrawal now remains in the Taliban’s hands, the report said. That includes some $4 billion worth of tactical vehicles like Humvees and MRAPs, nearly a billion dollars of aircraft, and roughly 316,000 weapons worth $500 million.
The Taliban that currently controls Afghanistan is little different than the one Americans came to know decades ago. The report cited “little discernible change in the behavior of the Taliban’s members, many of whom were part of the Taliban movement that was deposed in 2001.”
Biden followed up the withdrawal by bringing Afghan refugees into the U.S., adding pressure to a country already reeling from illegal immigration on the southern border.
One serviceman who was stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, which held some 10,000 migrants, told The Daily Wire that the State Department forbid guards from calling the Afghans anything but &#8220;guests,&#8221; because calling them refugees was viewed as insulting.
Speaking on condition of anonymity because he is still active duty, he said that he was struck by the fact that even though the media and politicians advertised the group as being primarily interpreters who had helped U.S. forces, &#8220;the actual percent who spoke English was negligible. Essentially none.&#8221;
He also said that most of them were men who had fled and abandoned their wives and children in an area they claimed was too dangerous for them. &#8220;It doesn’t give you a good feeling about people joining America when the one thing you know is you left your wife behind, especially in a male-dominated society where that’s going to leave her in a pretty bad situation,&#8221; he said.
He said that even though the thousands of migrants had nothing but free time, no time was spent teaching them English or about American civics, nor figuring out what skills they had that could lend themselves to careers in the country.

Following the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/taliban">Taliban’s</a> takeover of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/afghanistan">Afghanistan</a> and the spectacular collapse of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-military">U.S. military</a> engagement there one year ago this month, tens of thousands of Afghans — frequently billed as being interpreters and other U.S.-aligned military heroes — were brought as refugees to military compounds in the U.S., where government officials called them “guests.”
Since then, that narrative has collapsed and raised questions about whether the readiness of the U.S. military is now being harmed in places like Fort Pickett, a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-to-dump-up-to-1000-afghan-refugees-next-to-loudoun-high-school">Virginia</a> base that houses the Army National Guard Maneuver Training Center and frequently hosts the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for training.
By October 2021, there were “approximately 5,900 Afghan guests on Fort Pickett. Fort Pickett has the capacity to temporarily house up to 10,000 guests,” a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson told The Daily Wire at the time.
A civilian who works on the base, speaking with The Daily Wire on condition of anonymity to protect his job, said the activity displaced army training and that the defense compound had turned into a feces-covered disaster site. &#8220;It&#8217;s normally a Reserves training compound, and as far as we understand, it&#8217;s impacting the schedule so it&#8217;s impacting their ability to train,&#8221; he said in a previously unreported October interview. &#8220;Last year at this time there were a lot of reserve units on the base, this year there aren&#8217;t any. There’s no room.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s putting a load on the soldiers who are supposed to be there doing training, they’re exasperated by the behavior of these people doing things like defecating everywhere, dropping trash whenever they’re done with it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The camp where I’m working, there are several barracks-type buildings and a compound fenced in with barbed wire where we store different supplies like weapons and ammunition for the guys who train. All that got moved out,&#8221; he said, adding that Afghans were wandering out onto a firing range.
Afghan men crowd the military base’s commissary, a convenience store where they &#8220;hang out all day,” he said. “They’re going in there and they use the bathroom and where you sit on the toilet, they crouch on the toilet and defecate and urinate in the toilet. They shut down the toilets because they piled the toilets with feces until it was brimming out over the rim without flushing,&#8221; he continued. He said the company hired to pump out portable bathrooms was unable to do so because Afghans would throw trash into them, clogging the lines.
&#8220;They just go into the woods so in this military base the woods are now just full of Afghans who are running around the woods defecating. &#8230; They have soldiers with radios sitting at the corners just kind of watching,&#8221; he said.
At the time, the DHS spokesperson dismissed the allegations, saying the U.S. was &#8220;dedicated to treating our Afghan guests with dignity and respect while we care for their needs. &#8230; The Task Force has implemented a U.S. military Mayor and Governor system to the village, who also communicate with the evacuees and interagency partners daily. Further, we continue to stress the importance of good hygiene by providing cleaning and disinfecting supplies, hand washing stations, and culturally sensitive signage.&#8221;
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/afghan-migrants-dicks-sporting-goods-measles-northern-virginia">Refugees</a> are free to leave military bases, though &#8220;all parolees will be required to maintain regular contact with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services,&#8221; the spokesperson said.
A Department of Defense (DoD) spokesperson said, &#8220;Fort Pickett met DHS, DOS and DoD’s criteria for a secure location with capacity to house and provide essential support to Afghan personnel with minimal impact to training and military readiness. &#8230; Task Force Pickett is proud to host at this location while continuing to make our Afghan guests feel welcome.&#8221;
Since then, evidence has mounted supporting the employee’s account. In November, <a href="https://twitter.com/RepBobGood/status/1460633230734995460/photo/1">Rep. Bob Good</a> (R-VA) wrote to Fort Pickett officials that he had reason to believe the bases were accommodating Afghans at the expense of American military members. &#8220;I recently received concerning reports, photos, and videos from constituents that indicate that our soldiers at Fort Pickett are required to sleep outside in tents because the barracks are occupied by Afghan refugees. These reports indicate that our soldiers are sleeping in temperatures below 40 degrees, have been denied hot meals, and have limited opportunities to shower as they prepare for deployment,&#8221; he wrote.
In January, a DoD <a href="https://www.oversight.gov/sites/default/files/oig-reports/DoD/DODIG-2022-055.pdf">inspector general report</a> noted that &#8220;a significant number of Afghan evacuees did not have any identification,&#8221; while medical officials often encountered different spellings of names and birthdates that &#8220;did not directly translate to the Gregorian calendar&#8221; among the refugees.
There were few consequences for misdemeanors like “physical abuse of Afghan women and children, and other crimes by Afghan evacuees,” because “Pickett military police had limited law enforcement authority over Afghan Evacuees,” it said. “TF Pickett personnel did not carry weapons and were only allowed to respond to de-escalate a situation,” the report said. Not only were refugees not criminally prosecuted for misdemeanors, but the base also did not even attach a record of the infractions to their Department of State profiles, which meant that “families who chose to sponsor Afghan evacuees and their families would not have a full profile detailing incidents allegedly committed during an evacuee’s time at Fort Pickett.”
There were few consequences for felonies, either, because a local magistrate downgraded felony charges including alleged physical abuse and vehicle theft to misdemeanors, sending them back to the base.
In February, the last migrant <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2022/02/02/operation-allies-welcome-announces-departure-last-afghan-nationals-fort-pickett-virginia">departed</a> Fort Pickett, with others still housed at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. A Department of State spokesperson told The Daily Wire that as of this week, 90,000 Afghans have been brought to the U.S. in the last year.

The Biden administration program to bring Afghan refugees to the U.S. was popularly marketed as being for interpreters who had helped American forces, but the program was later expanded to explicitly permit former Taliban employees, according to a new government report.
In June, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State announced “new exemptions” including for “individuals who worked as civil servants under the Taliban” and “individuals who provided only certain limited material support to the Taliban or other designated terrorist organizations,” according to a new joint DHS, DOS, and USAID <a href="https://www.oversight.gov/sites/default/files/oig-reports/DoD/LEAD-INSPECTOR-GENERAL-OPERATION-FREEDOM%E2%80%99S-SENTINEL-AND-OPERATION-ENDURING-SENTINEL-APRIL-1-2022-%E2%80%93.PDF">Inspector General report</a> that cited correspondence with the Department of State.
A <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2022/06/14/dhs-and-dos-announce-exemptions-allowing-eligible-afghans-qualify-protection-and">statement</a> from DHS that month said that the change will &#8220;ensure that individuals who have lived under Taliban rule, such as former civil servants, those required to pay service fees to the Taliban to do things like pass through a checkpoint or obtain a passport, and those who fought against the Taliban are not mistakenly barred because of overly broad applications of terrorism-related inadmissibility grounds (TRIG) in our immigration law.&#8221;
&#8220;The Secretary of Homeland Security and the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Attorney General, exercised their congressionally provided discretionary authority to create three new exemptions, which can be applied on a case-by-case basis,&#8221; it said.
&#8220;This exemption does not include individuals who held high-level positions, worked for certain ministries, or directly assisted violent Taliban activities or activities in which the individual’s civil service was motivated by an allegiance to the Taliban,&#8221; it added.
A Department of State spokesperson told The Daily Wire that &#8220;The Afghan applicants this action is meant to protect include, but are not limited to, Special Immigrant Visa applicants, allies of the U.S. government, and others unable to avoid interacting with the Taliban or other terrorist organizations in Afghanistan. It is important to note that this is not an automatic exemption, but rather may be applied after a careful review on a case-by-case basis.&#8221;
The Taliban is still largely the same entity that entered the consciousness of Americans not long after September 11, 2001. The inspector general audit reported “little discernible change in the behavior of the Taliban’s members, many of whom were part of the Taliban movement that was deposed in 2001. During the quarter, the Taliban likely appointed no new Haqqani Network-affiliated officials to senior positions within its interim government, according to the DIA. As of June, Haqqani Network affiliated individuals, including Sirajuddin Haqqani, Khalil Rahman Haqqani, and Haji Mali Khan, maintained their existing positions in the Taliban’s interim government. The Haqqani Network is a DoS-designated foreign terrorist organization that is closely affiliated with the Taliban.&#8221;
Not long after the U.S. effort in Afghanistan ended in spectacular collapse one year ago, critics raised eyebrows about whether the tens of thousands being brought in amidst chaos could all be &#8220;interpreters, drivers and others who worked with American forces, as well as their family members,&#8221; as the New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/19/us/politics/afghan-visa-applicants-army-base-virginia.html">described</a> an initial group of would-be asylees.
Between August 17 and August 31, 2021, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/small-fraction-america-s-afghan-allies-made-it-out-afghanistan-n1278141">23,000 Afghans</a> described as &#8220;allies and family members&#8221; were brought to the U.S., but as of October 2021, <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/international/578095-nearly-200-americans-want-to-leave-afghanistan-state-department-tells/">hundreds of Americans</a> were still stranded in Afghanistan, according to the State Department.
More than 4,300 Afghan refugees passed through a Loudoun County, Virginia, site <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-to-dump-up-to-1000-afghan-refugees-next-to-loudoun-high-school">next to a high school</a>. Loudoun <a href="https://www.loudoun.gov/5691/Operation-Allies-Welcome-Safe-Haven-Faci">described</a> the group as including &#8220;interpreters&#8221; &#8212; yet the facility also said it was <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/afganistan-refugees-taliban-war-united-states-loudoun-county-virginia-families-kids-adults-parents-immigration-home-national-conference-center-operation-allies-welcome-joe-biden-foreign-aid">teaching them English</a>, and the sheriff said only 30% spoke the language.
The group has continued to be characterized by its most-sympathetic subcomponent, with <a href="https://thedispatch.com/p/a-year-after-afghanistan-fell-to">The Dispatch</a> this month referring to the asylum-seekers as including “translators and other allies who assisted American and coalition troops.&#8221;
Even if the program had been limited to &#8220;interpreters,&#8221; the report also suggests problems with the vetting of that category. It says that the government in recent years had &#8220;identified a fraud scheme related to a $1.4 billion DoD contract to provide interpreters and translators supporting U.S. and coalition military operations in Afghanistan.&#8221; A D.C. judge sentenced one such employee to one year of probation and a $100 fine, while a judge dismissed other cases — which involved having fluent people stand in for applicants in order to fake the results of language tests — for a procedural reason.
By February 2022, at least four Afghan refugees had been accused of sexual assault in the U.S, according to <a href="https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/2022/02/model-afghan-refugee-sexually-assaulted-woman-who-daniel-greenfield/">Front Page Magazine</a>. One was <a href="https://www.frontpagemag.com/point/2022/01/afghan-refugee-who-sexually-assaulted-3-year-old-daniel-greenfield/">convicted</a> of sexually assaulting a three-year-old child at Quantico Marine Corps Base.
In October 2021, the New York Times published an inspiring portrait of the hero interpreters being evacuated. Chief among them was Matiullah Matie, who the Times pictured and documented coming to America with his six children. Matie was presumably among the most heavily-vetted translators, serving as a &#8220;fixer&#8221; for Lt. General Lawrence Nicholson, according to the Times.
“Reached Philadelphia airport safely thanks to my American brothers and sisters who helped me,” it quoted Matie as saying. Matie was settled in Wisconsin on December 29, 2021.
By February 2, Wausau Police said &#8220;a victim reported she was assaulted by Matie while in a vehicle on Wausau’s northeast side. The victim was identified as an acquaintance and was assisting Matie and his family in refugee resettlement. Court documents state Matie forcibly kissed the woman and inappropriately touched her,&#8221; according to local news outlet WSAW, which had previously profiled him positively.
In July, the charges against Matie were <a href="https://www.wsaw.com/2022/07/19/charge-dismissed-against-wausau-afghan-refugee/">dropped</a>.
This week, Dawood Nazim Shah, who was resettled to Brattleboro, Vermont, in January 2022, was recently charged with attempted sexual assault after allegedly luring a woman to his home, grabbing her breasts, and forcing himself on top of her.
Refugee advocates pushed for him to be released from jail, calling him a &#8220;kind and gentle person,&#8221; according to the <a href="https://www.reformer.com/local-news/refugee-charged-with-attempted-sexual-assault/article_1fd85f1c-1a6f-11ed-8dde-7f06db41b69c.html">local news</a>.
The news said he had &#8220;very limited knowledge of English,&#8221; making it unlikely that he was an interpreter.

President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he is launching a new program to bring more Ukrainians to America in an effort that could result in 100,000 refugees relocating to the U.S.
The new &#8220;Unite for Ukraine&#8221; program was described as a secure and fast program to bring Ukrainians fleeing war directly from Europe to the U.S. rather than through the nation&#8217;s southern border.
&#8220;Last month when I was in Europe, I announced that the United State would welcome 100,000 so we share in the responsibility to share. We&#8217;ve welcomed tens of thousands of Ukrainians to the United States and today I&#8217;m announcing a program &#8216;Unite for Ukraine,&#8217; a new program to enable Ukrainians seeking refuge to come directly from Europe to the United States,&#8221; Biden said during remarks from the White House.

The new initiative is designed to build on existing pathways to secure migration for fleeing Ukrainians.
&#8220;This new humanitarian parole program will complement the existing legal pathways available to Ukrainians including immigrant visas and refugee processing. It will provide an expedient channel to secure migration from Ukraine to the United States for Ukrainians who have a sponsor such as a family or NGO,&#8221; the president added.
Biden also hinted at previous concerns regarding his immigration policies, arguing that the Ukrainian resettlement effort will be streamlined more efficiently than existing efforts.
&#8220;This program will be fast, it will be streamlined, and ensure the United States honors its commitment to go to the people of Ukraine and need not go through our southern border,&#8221; he noted.
The new plan will require Ukrainians to have a sponsor in the U.S. according to a <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/biden-admin-announce-plan-begin-bringing-ukrainian-refugees-us-rcna25340">report</a> by NBC News.
&#8220;An online portal will open on April 25 to allow sponsors to upload documents as part of a process to ensure Ukrainians can be sponsored but that sponsors are not seeking to exploit the Ukrainians they take in,&#8221; the report added.
The president&#8217;s remarks also confirmed his expected announcement to release an additional $800 million in military security funding for Ukraine&#8217;s defense against Russia.
The announcement also follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/zelensky-calls-on-western-leaders-to-provide-needed-weapons-against-russia-their-duty-is-to-help-protect-freedom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">calling again</a> on the leaders of Western nations to provide the weapons his country needs to defend itself against Russia’s military.
Zelensky shared the remarks during his nightly nationally televised broadcast on Tuesday in Ukraine. He claimed that it’s unfair that he must keep asking for weapons other nations have had in storage for years.
“That is why I emphasize the simple truth in literally every contact with the leaders of the democratic world, in all negotiations, in all interviews – it is unfair that Ukraine is still forced to ask for what its partners have been storing somewhere for years,” Zelensky <a href="https://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/yaksho-nashi-partneri-mayut-potribnu-ukrayini-zbroyu-yihnij-74417" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
“If they have the weapons that Ukraine needs here, needs now, if they have the ammunition that we need here and now, it is their moral duty, first of all, to help protect freedom. Help save the lives of thousands of Ukrainians,” he added.
