The Trump administration is looking to breed a new class of pro-America refugees with the help of a new patriotic curriculum, The Daily Wire has learned.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has partnered with PragerU to provide newly arrived Afrikaner refugees escaping racial persecution in South Africa with videos and literature on American history and values as part of a new &#8220;patriotic welcome package.&#8221; President Donald Trump has prioritized the admission of Afrikaners, members of South Africa’s persecuted white minority, and recently increased the annual refugee cap to roughly 17,500 to bring more of them to the United States.
Several Afrikaner refugees brought to the United States by Trump recently told The Daily Wire that up until now, federally funded resettlement agencies have provided videos as part of their cultural orientation to American life that taught them how to shower, use a toilet, and brush their teeth. The refugees, who largely speak English and are accustomed to such cultural norms, were shocked by the material.
The content is provided to refugee aid nonprofits through the International Rescue Committee&#8217;s SettleIn initiative and is funded by HHS’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), as previously reported.
Adriaan, an Afrikaner refugee who arrived in December, said he and his peers &#8220;laughed at a lot of these videos and made comedic remarks because they pointed out the obvious regarding not going to the bathroom outside and how to use a microwave oven.&#8221;

The new welcome packets include a copy of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and The White House&#8217;s 1776 Report on America&#8217;s founding, according to HHS.
“On the 250th anniversary of our great nation, it is my honor to welcome Afrikaner refugees to the land of freedom and opportunity,” HHS Administration for Children and Families Assistant Secretary Alex J. Adams said in a statement shared with The Daily Wire.
“America has long been strengthened by individuals and families who come here seeking safety, stability, and the chance to build a better future. The Trump administration is proud to now connect refugees with resources that will support their transition to American life and help them learn of the freedoms, responsibilities, and opportunities that make this nation great,&#8221; Adams added.
PragerU&#8217;s vice president of kids programming Dzana Homan, who came to the United States as a refugee from communist Yugoslavia, is behind the program&#8217;s launch. She said the hope is &#8220;to tell&#8221; refugees &#8220;this color blind America values story about how did this country begin and what is it that makes it so special.&#8221;
&#8220;There&#8217;s nothing right now that is provided frankly and when you look at what has happened thus far with America&#8217;s immigration, including myself, it is very hard to find information, especially for this day and age that is succinct, that is truthful &#8230; and then also celebration of America, I think that&#8217;s the important part,&#8221; Homan said.
&#8220;You want new immigrants to see America in the right light,&#8221; she said.
HHS will give each newly arrived refugee family a tablet with the PragerU app installed with all the pro-America content, Homan said. Each family will also receive &#8220;The Honest Book of America&#8217;s Founders,&#8221; which tells the story of America&#8217;s founding.
PragerU also launched &#8220;Welcome to America,&#8221; a landing page for refugees to watch 25 short videos including &#8220;A Moral Case for Capitalism&#8221; hosted by former European Parliament member Daniel Hannan, &#8220;The Government Doesn&#8217;t Make Money — You Do&#8221; hosted by business advisor Carol Roth, and &#8220;Do You Understand the Electoral College?&#8221; hosted by expert Tara Ross. The playlist also features videos hosted by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, PragerU co-founder Dennis Prager, and retired Navy SEAL officer Jocko Willink.

&#8220;These short videos will introduce you to America’s history, values, and how this country works, so you can feel confident, informed, and ready to build the life you came here for. With content for every age, your whole family can learn together,&#8221; it adds.
The website also features children&#8217;s content from kindergarten to sixth grade &#8220;and up&#8221; discussing the themes of Independence Day, Thanksgiving, the Bill of Rights, and George Washington.
&#8220;PragerU is already the go-to source for millions of Americans seeking inspiring and educational content about our nation&#8217;s history and values,&#8221; PragerU CEO Marissa Streit said in a statement shared with The Daily Wire. &#8220;Now, we are proud to help new Americans learn about and appreciate our great country.&#8221;
PragerU provided all the content for the program free of charge, Homan said. ORR will distribute the new materials to refugees starting Wednesday.

When South African refugees were told they would be shown videos on how to assimilate to American culture, they expected a crash course in local customs and habits they may not have known.
Instead, they sat wide-eyed as they watched videos teaching them how to shower, use a toilet, and brush their teeth.
Several Afrikaners, members of South Africa&#8217;s white minority to whom President Donald Trump has granted special refugee status, told The Daily Wire they were shocked by the videos.
&#8220;When we were watching it, we laughed at a lot of these videos and made comedic remarks because they pointed out the obvious regarding not going to the bathroom outside and how to use a microwave even,&#8221; said Adriaan, an Afrikaner refugee who arrived in December. &#8220;We found it very funny, but we understood as well the idea of like people from Somalia who&#8217;ve never had electricity &#8230; they were mostly made for people that can&#8217;t speak English, that have never lived in a first world country.&#8221;
&#8220;It was just plain ridiculous,&#8221; Marie, another Afrikaner refugee, said.
The videos are produced by an initiative of the nonprofit organization the International Rescue Committee, which is called SettleIn. The program boasts that its content was &#8220;developed under agreements financed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families and Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, United States Department of State,&#8221; according to its website.
SettleIn&#8217;s website adds that its content does not &#8220;necessarily represent the policies or official views of those agencies and should not assume endorsement by the Federal Government.&#8221;

One of the videos on SettleIn&#8217;s YouTube channel promotes &#8220;personal hygiene,&#8221; saying that &#8220;In the United States, this means taking regular showers or baths, applying deodorant daily, washing and grooming hair, and washing clothes frequently.&#8221;
&#8220;Only toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet,&#8221; it adds.
The video goes on to say that &#8220;practicing proper personal hygiene promotes good health, prevents the spread of diseases, and may influence relationships with others,&#8221; adding: &#8220;Personal hygiene is also important for getting and keeping a job.&#8221;
An accompanying <a href="https://www.settleinus.org/sites/default/files/2024-07/English_Hygiene-in-the-US_factsheet-low-res.PDF" target="_blank" rel="noopener">guide</a> also advises refugees against urinating and spitting &#8220;in public.&#8221; It also instructs them to &#8220;wear clothing that is clean,&#8221; &#8220;wash hands when they are dirty, after using the bathroom, and before and after eating,&#8221; and to &#8220;use a tissue, not your hand or the sleeve of your shirt&#8221; to wipe a runny nose.

Another <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xv4ylUdHBg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> advises refugees not to run from the police during encounters with law enforcement.
&#8220;Don&#8217;t run or reach for anything suddenly,&#8221; the video advises.

One of the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLFYsEq5su4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">videos</a> features a refugee woman telling her fellow newcomers that homes in the United States are &#8220;not like when we are back home living in the refugee camps, you have to be so clean person, clean your home, take your trash out.&#8221;
The International Rescue Committee, which partners with the federal government as part of its U.S. Refugee Admission Program (USRAP), has <a href="https://www.rescue.org/press-release/irc-deeply-troubled-refugee-resettlement-slots-one-nationality?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">condemned</a> the Trump administration&#8217;s refugee policy to decrease refugee admissions and to prioritize white Afrikaners facing racial persecution in South Africa.
The Trump administration <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/realigning-the-united-states-refugee-admissions-program/?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> USRAP on January 20, 2025, and subsequently terminated agreements with refugee aid nonprofits, including the <a href="https://www.rescue.org/article/how-have-trump-policies-impacted-refugees?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">International Rescue Committee (IRC)</a>.
A federal judge initially blocked the suspension in early 2025 and ordered the government to reinstate its agreements with resettlement groups like the IRC. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals later ruled the administration could lawfully suspend refugee admissions, but it left in place the requirement that the government keep funding domestic services for refugees already in the country.
SettleIn is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services&#8217; Office of Refugee Resettlement, according to the International Rescue Committee <a href="https://www.rescue.org/page/us-program-offerings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>. It is part of the committee&#8217;s Switchboard, which provides training to refugee support organizations and case managers, which is &#8220;100% financed by federal funds,&#8221; citing an <a href="https://taggs.hhs.gov/Detail/AwardDetail?arg_AwardNum=90RB0053&amp;arg_ProgOfficeCode=40&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Office of Refugee Resettlement grant</a> that has provided the organization more than $20 million in taxpayer funds since 2023.
The program offers some practical advice on filing one&#8217;s taxes, obtaining a driver&#8217;s license, and buying and renting a residence in the United States.
It also provides a cultural guide for refugee organizations and case workers on working with Afrikaner refugees. The packet neglects to mention the racially motivated killings of white farmers in South Africa and other race-based laws discriminating against Afrikaners.
The guide paints Afrikaners as settlers who took part in &#8220;displacing native peoples,&#8221; which it said in combination with the British Empire holding Afrikaners and black Africans in concentration camps &#8220;helped consolidate a concept of Afrikaner nationalism through collective suffering at the hands of the British.&#8221;
&#8220;From 1948 to 1994, Afrikaners participated in establishing and implementing the South African government’s system of Apartheid, a regime of racial segregation. In the post-Apartheid era, South Africans including Afrikaners continue to grapple with issues of identity, reconciliation, and socio-economic transformation,&#8221; the guide reads.
Such federally-funded programs &#8220;are intended to support refugees from a broad range of countries of origin, educational backgrounds, languages, and lived experiences,&#8221; a Department of Health and Human Services spokesman told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;Office of Refugee Resettlement-funded resources, including those developed by technical assistance providers, provide practical information to help refugees navigate daily life in the United States, including topics such as healthcare, education, transportation, housing, employment, and other essential services,&#8221; the spokesman said.
&#8220;Some materials also provide information about common household and community practices in the United States, recognizing that refugees arrive with varying levels of familiarity with U.S. systems, institutions, and cultural norms,&#8221; the official added.
In a statement, the IRC said &#8220;SettleIn and Switchboard are resources designed to support the full range of refugees resettling in the United States—a population that comes from dozens of countries, speaks hundreds of languages, and arrives with enormously varied backgrounds and levels of familiarity with American systems and infrastructure.&#8221;
The videos, the organization said, &#8220;are intentionally comprehensive so that resettlement organizations can use what is relevant for the populations they serve, and resettling refugees can access the information most helpful to them.&#8221;

Marie and her family fled racial persecution against white Afrikaners in South Africa nearly one year ago, hoping for a better life in the United States.
She, her husband, and 15-year-old daughter were resettled as refugees in Chicago, where they soon realized that the nonprofits tasked with helping them didn&#8217;t care to support well-educated, English-speaking refugees.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not actually sure why they&#8217;re getting any federal funding and promising the U.S. that they are delivering services, that they&#8217;re not,&#8221; Marie told The Daily Wire in a recent interview.
She and her family were among the first arrivals to the United States under the Trump administration&#8217;s resettlement program for white Afrikaners.
In February 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to prioritize Afrikaner refugees “who are victims of unjust racial discrimination” to the United States. Afrikaners, an ethnic minority in South Africa, descended from Dutch and French settlers.
President Donald Trump has asserted there&#8217;s a genocide in South Africa against white Afrikaners and recently expanded the program to allow roughly 17,500 refugees into the United States annually.
When Marie and her family landed in Chicago, a refugee nonprofit placed them in a hotel that was full of &#8220;druggies&#8221; and left them there for nearly a month, she said.
&#8220;They didn&#8217;t bring us anything, no food, no basic necessities, nothing,&#8221; Marie said.
&#8220;They just honestly didn&#8217;t care&#8230; they hated us. They literally asked us why are we here because there are refugees in Kenya that have been waiting for 35 years to come to the U.S., so what makes us so special,&#8221; she said.
Marie soon realized that the refugee aid workers in the area resented white Afrikaners and were &#8220;reluctant&#8221; to help them because they spoke English and could more easily assimilate to American culture.
&#8220;They literally told me they were prepared to resettle Afghans and they have been the past 18 years in the business of resettling Afghans, and we are not Afghan, so they don&#8217;t know what to do with us or help us,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;They only focused on teaching them how to use a toilet, how to brush their teeth, how to use shampoo in showering &#8230; not to poop in the garden,&#8221; she added.
The Daily Wire spoke with several other resettled Afrikaner refugees who were also left to their own devices by groups tasked with resettling refugees.
Without the help of refugee aid workers, Marie and her husband made their own appointments to obtain driver&#8217;s licenses and Social Security numbers. She said the only thing they were able to get from the resettlement group was their work permits.
But they still struggled for four months to find jobs because the only employment opportunities they could find wanted Spanish speakers. The only work the refugee organization could offer was scrubbing toilets at Trump Hotel, which would&#8217;ve been an hours-long commute in city traffic.
&#8220;It felt like Mexico,&#8221; Marie said, adding that she complained to the refugee center, which told her that she should just &#8220;learn Spanish&#8221; to get employment.
&#8220;They really wanted to make life miserable for us,&#8221; she added.
The family eventually packed up and left for Georgia, where Marie&#8217;s husband was able to find stable work in accounting.
She said Georgia &#8220;is a million times better.&#8221;
Adriaan arrived in Lewiston, Maine, in December to start a new life in the safety of the United States, but like Marie he quickly realized that there wasn&#8217;t much support for Afrikaners.
&#8220;At the beginning, there were so many other individuals from Africa and I just wondered, they&#8217;ve been here for months and months on end, but looks like nobody has a job. And that&#8217;s what really scared me because I just saw people living off the government,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;That&#8217;s not what we want to do, most South Africans don&#8217;t want that,&#8221; he added.
The nonprofit group tasked with Adriaan&#8217;s resettlement, Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services (MEIRS), said they were unable to help him find work or move toward self-sufficiency, he said. The aid workers at MEIRS eventually told him that they didn&#8217;t &#8220;know what to do with us, because [they&#8217;ve] never had South Africans,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;I stayed at that hotel for more than two weeks and I was just waiting for something to happen,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;I think there&#8217;s no real empathy or care towards South African refugees,&#8221; he said.
MEIRS has taken on about 35 Afrikaner refugees since November, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2026/05/22/trump-offered-white-south-africans-new-life-thousands-took-him-up-it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Washington Post. Its executive director, Rilwan Osman, was recently asked why he&#8217;s assisting white South Africans. He &#8220;demurred&#8221; and said &#8220;don&#8217;t ask me, ask the president&#8221; as he laughed.
A previous state audit of MEIRS reportedly found that the group over-billed MaineCare, the state&#8217;s Medicaid program, by roughly $2.4 million, <a href="https://www.themainewire.com/2025/12/feds-probe-little-mogadishu-locations-linked-to-alleged-somali-medicaid-fraud-gun-crimes-in-lewiston/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Maine Wire.
After spending nearly a month and a half without work, Adriaan left on his own for Texas, where he quickly found a job and a stable lifestyle.
&#8220;It was a lot better,&#8221; Adriaan said.
&#8220;I&#8217;m proud to be in the US. I&#8217;m happy to be here. I have respect for the people here, and I think most South Africans do because it&#8217;s not just a ticket we got to a better life. It&#8217;s something that we&#8217;re grateful for, something we want to give back to as well,&#8221; he said.
MEIRS didn&#8217;t respond to a request for comment and couldn&#8217;t be reached by phone as their number was disconnected.
Rich arrived in Connecticut in March with his wife and three teenage kids. When they arrived, they were placed in a hotel by the Jewish Family Services (JFS) nonprofit organization in Greenwich, Connecticut, which left them there for five days without contacting them to begin their search for more permanent housing and employment, he said.
&#8220;Now, we are a family of five, so which means we got about $12,500 resettlement money, so that&#8217;s for the whole family together. Now, if you can imagine, five people having to rent two double rooms, and your first five days, you have no contact. You just had an hotel, nothing is done. That eats up a lot of your resettlement money,&#8221; Rich said.
When JFS finally took Rich and his family to find housing, they showed them apartments in drug-infested neighborhoods where the streets were riddled with needles, he said. JFS presented the units as their only options.
Rich then found housing outside JFS&#8217; offerings, but double-checked with a JFS caseworker who confirmed &#8220;It&#8217;s a great area&#8221; and that &#8220;there&#8217;s no other options.&#8221;
Three days after the family moved in, a group of drug addicts tried to break into the home while his daughter, 19, was home. They used drugs on the porch, where they left paraphernalia.
Rich decided that was enough, found a job in Pennsylvania that would accept him as he awaited a Social Security number, and began moving out of the home with the help of a JFS caseworker. While they were moving furniture, a group of burglars &#8220;with big crow bars&#8221; broke into their garage.
&#8220;That was the second break in in a week,&#8221; Rich said.
Since then, the family has been living for weeks in Airbnbs and has used up their resettlement funds on the days-long hotel stay and their first apartment, which they&#8217;re still awaiting JFS to help them secure a refund of their deposits, which amounted to $7,500.
&#8220;Everything was just wasted by Jewish Family Services,&#8221; Rich said.
&#8220;We understand we&#8217;re going to have to sacrifice, but we cannot sacrifice our safety and that is where the problem comes in,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve been placed in dangerous areas. Our money is being wasted in hotels. And this is just our story.&#8221;
Upon arriving in Pennsylvania, Rich said he reached out to the local refugee aid nonprofits, but received no help.
As of publication, Rich and his family have yet to receive Social Security numbers, driver&#8217;s licenses, or Medicaid, he said.
&#8220;I have reached out to every single resettlement agency in Pennsylvania and none of them were willing to help us,&#8221; he said.
In a statement shared with The Daily Wire, JFS Greenwich CEO Rachel Kornfeld said that the organization &#8220;administers programs in accordance with the funding, eligibility, and service requirements established by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and other government agencies.&#8221;
Rich eventually contacted Mike Morris, a private citizen and emergency room doctor near Philadelphia who&#8217;s stepped in to assist Afrikaner refugees. Morris was able to secure housing for Rich at an Airbnb he owns and employment for the family at one of the hospitals he serves.
&#8220;We have been fielding calls and helping refugees in need around the country. Even just logistics for them is helpful. Rich reached out as he was moving close to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was good timing because one of my properties was about to be vacant. We had an Afrikaner refugee family graduating our program so it worked out really well. We already have four jobs for Rich and his family. They’re fully employed.&#8221;
Out of frustration with the current nonprofit infrastructure for refugees, Morris started his own group Keystone Refugee Services. Morris told The Daily Wire that the &#8220;neglect and at times outright disdain&#8221; NGOs purporting to help Afrikaner refugees across the country &#8220;only strengthened&#8221; his &#8220;resolve&#8221; to meet new arrivals&#8217; needs.
&#8220;It has only strengthened my resolve. These are industrious English speaking people, they want to work and want to assimilate. The barriers that are in their way are mostly manufactured either via government agency bottlenecks or more often nonprofit neglect and discrimination. This is why we are trying to reform this system to an outcome based model,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;If non-profit resettlement agencies can’t launch refugees to financial independence they don’t deserve funding. Americans need to rethink the purpose of this program and how it best serves our country,&#8221; he added.

Andre, his wife, and their six-year-old son were approved to leave South Africa and come to the United States as refugees more than 200 days ago.
&#8220;Literally three days before departure, they cancelled the tickets and said don&#8217;t make any drastic changes. That was too late, we were already totally committed for the program,&#8221; Andre, who requested that his full name be withheld due to threats, told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;We gave away everything &#8230; we basically used up all our savings, we are close to being on the street,&#8221; he said.
Andre&#8217;s story is just one of many Afrikaners — South Africa&#8217;s white population — who were approved to come to the United States as refugees escaping racial persecution, received airline tickets, and then had their trips cancelled. The Daily Wire spoke with several approved refugees who remain stuck in South Africa, with no answers.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in February 2025 to allow Afrikaners, &#8220;who are victims of unjust racial discrimination,&#8221; into the United States as refugees and to prioritize their admissions.
All the while, Trump cut total annual refugee admissions from 125,000 to 7,500.
Trump is said to be considering increasing the annual refugee cap to 17,500 to support more white Afrikaners, CNN <a href="https://x.com/priscialva/status/2056525692041298122?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> Monday. It&#8217;s not clear if that would help the many Afrikaners who are stuck in limbo.
Afrikaners are an ethnic minority in South Africa who descended from Dutch and French Huguenot settlers. The Trump administration has said they&#8217;re victims of a racial genocide in South Africa.
Last May, Trump confronted the South African president, who denied the existence of a white genocide, during a visit to Washington by showing him video of calls to violence by government officials in South Africa.
One clip featured in the video showed Julius Malema, a member of South Africa’s National Assembly, singing “Kill the Boer” at a political rally, a reference to Afrikaners.
Trump&#8217;s refugee policy changes prompted left-leaning groups like the Church World Service (CWS), a faith-based group, to take the Trump administration to court <a href="https://refugeerights.org/news-resources/refugees-challenge-discriminatory-preference-for-white-afrikaners" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://refugeerights.org/news-resources/refugees-challenge-discriminatory-preference-for-white-afrikaners&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1779198166394000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3lWdz3J4H0CDSvX8N58ozN">challenging</a> its &#8220;discriminatory preference for white Afrikaners.&#8221;
Despite suing the government, CWS is now playing an integral role in the Trump administration&#8217;s refugee resettlement program for Afrikaners through its Resettlement Support Center Africa (RSC). The nonprofit organization has worked with the federal government to resettle refugees since 1980.
Trump attempted to freeze funding and cancelled contracts to organizations involved in refugee resettlement, like CWS, but some of the attempts have been blocked by courts.
The federal government has shelled out more than $246 million in grants to the organization, with the funds making up roughly 87% of the group&#8217;s income, <a href="https://cwsglobal.org/about/financials/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://cwsglobal.org/about/financials/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1779198166394000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2T4c0im7UOIgGWZp5hAhD8">according</a> to its website.
The Afrikaners notified by CWS that their one-way tickets to the United States were canceled said the organization has left them in the dark regarding the fate of their cases. In many instances, their medical evaluations expired, forcing them to redo that part of the process, which for some means taking hours-long drives and booking hotel stays to complete new vaccinations and testing.
Some of them had already sold their cars after being told they would leave the country within days or weeks.
The overseas medical exams are valid for only six months, <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/ss/ss7102a1.htm?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/ss/ss7102a1.htm?utm_source%3Dchatgpt.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1779198166394000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2zGFm66PE_ddzl3QKgs4SH">according</a> to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Andre, who was set to be resettled in Fort Worth, Texas, described CWS&#8217; role in the resettlement of Afrikaners as &#8220;horrific,&#8221; saying &#8220;they do not respond to any emails &#8230; you can&#8217;t call them, you can&#8217;t ask for any information.&#8221;
&#8220;If you do get a reply back it&#8217;s an automated response,&#8221; Andre said.
One Afrikaner woman, who requested anonymity for her safety, applied for refugee status in May 2025 and received her flight tickets in January.
&#8220;I was very, very happy, very grateful and I was ready to go. I rushed home, packed up everything, got rid of everything,&#8221; she told The Daily Wire.
Days before her scheduled departure, CWS notified her that her trip had been canceled and that her case &#8220;went back to in progress.&#8221;
By that time, she had already quit her full-time job and gotten rid of most of her belongings. She remains stuck in South Africa.
&#8220;We got an email saying now we&#8217;re under review now and since then it&#8217;s been dead silence,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;It&#8217;s like giving a child some candy and just before they put it in their mouth, they take it back. It was terrifying,&#8221; she added.
Her medical evaluation then expired in April and she had to go back and redo the required testing and vaccinations.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which processes the cases, didn&#8217;t respond to The Daily Wire&#8217;s request for comment.
A State Department spokesperson told The Daily Wire that &#8220;President Trump has been very clear that we are prioritizing the resettlement of Afrikaners in South Africa who are escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination.&#8221; The spokesperson declined to comment &#8220;on the details of specific refugee cases.&#8221;
Without answers on their cases, many of the refugees are forced to live among their threats. Some move from house to house to avoid attacks and many rarely leave their homes after facing violent attacks and racial discrimination.
One Afrikaner woman who also spoke on the condition of anonymity said she applied for the refugee program after her family faced racially motivated attacks, including one where her daughter was raped and the police refused to act.
&#8220;The police said she asked for it,&#8221; the woman said.
&#8220;This child was broken. My kids have got no future in this country &#8230; And now we&#8217;re sitting, we&#8217;re waiting, we&#8217;re not hearing. We&#8217;re stressed, we don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s going on. This thing has taken such a toll on us,&#8221; she added.
Several Afrikaners who spoke with us said their children wouldn&#8217;t be able to secure jobs after school because they&#8217;re white.
But one message was clear, the Afrikaners don&#8217;t want Americans to perceive them as entitled. They made clear that they want to work and lead self-sufficient lives in the safety of the United States.
&#8220;When we get there, I don&#8217;t want to be dependent on the United States government to just provide and, provide and provide,&#8221; Pierre, an Afrikaner living in Cape Town and still awaiting the fate of his case after applying over a year ago, said.
Pierre and his wife&#8217;s medical evaluations expired in April and CWS still hasn&#8217;t rescheduled their appointments, he said.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t want anybody to think that we&#8217;re entitled to this, or we&#8217;re trying to demand anything. It&#8217;s just that it&#8217;s become really unbearable in South Africa,&#8221; he said.
CWS didn&#8217;t respond to a request for comment.

Leftist Group Leaves White South African Refugees Out To Dry While Fighting Trump In Court

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers can now detain refugees who haven&#8217;t obtained green cards within their first year in the United States as part of a larger crackdown on fraud and potential national security threats, according to a new federal memo.
The Trump administration is now instructing federal officers to arrest the refugees and &#8220;re-vet&#8221; them, according to the <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-administration-gives-ice-broader-powers-to-detain-legal-refugees-citing-security-concerns/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">memo</a>, which was obtained by CBS News. The Feb. 18 memo states that refugees who haven&#8217;t become legal permanent residents after one year, meaning they never obtained a green card, must avail themselves to federal immigration authorities to have their cases reviewed.
If they fail to do so voluntarily, they may face arrest by ICE.
ICE can then hold them &#8220;for the duration of the inspection and examination process,&#8221; according to the memo, which came from acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edlow.
&#8220;The detain-and-inspect requirement ensures that refugees are re-vetted after one year, aligns post-admission vetting with that applied to other applicants for admission, and promotes public safety,&#8221; the memo reads.
&#8220;The changes are designed to better enforce the statutory requirement that aliens admitted as refugees who have been present in the United States for at least one year return or be returned to DHS custody for inspection and examination for admission as an LPR [legal permanent resident]. They further reflect the public policy interest in thorough vetting of aliens admitted as refugees, including vetting for national security, public safety, and fraud-related issues.&#8221;
Former ICE New York field office deputy director Scott Mechkowski told The Daily Wire that the move is &#8220;essential,&#8221; given &#8220;evolving global threats.&#8221;
&#8220;This ensures that our immigration system remains resilient against potential fraud or emerging risks and thereby protecting American communities and upholding the integrity of our humanitarian commitments without compromising public safety,&#8221; Mechkowski said.
Previously, refugees couldn&#8217;t be detained solely because of their failure to get residency within their first year in the United States, according to CBS. ICE also had just 48 hours to decide whether to release refugees or place them into deportation proceedings if there were any red flags.
Andrew Arthur, a former immigration judge and current resident fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Daily Wire &#8220;that the prior policy was not consistent with the language of section 209(a) of the INA [Immigration and Nationality Act],&#8221; which states that refugees who fail to obtain a green card in the first year &#8220;shall, at the end of such year period, return or be returned to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security for inspection and examination for admission.&#8221;
&#8220;The whole idea behind that refugee scheme is that certain foreign nationals are so endangered that we must allow them in, and then we will complete the inspection after they have been here for a year &#8212; a fact that should be clear from the statute,&#8221; Arthur said.
Many refugees let in during the Biden administration &#8220;may not have met the definition of &#8216;refugee'&#8221; as spelled out in the Immigration and Nationality Act &#8220;because they lacked a well-founded fear of persecution on account of the five factors (race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion) therein,&#8221; Arthur said.
Last year, the Trump administration set the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-sets-refugee-limit-to-lowest-level-in-history">refugee cap</a> at the lowest level in the country&#8217;s history, allowing just 7,500 immigrants to enter. The federal government also commenced a review of refugees brought into the country during the Biden administration, according to CBS.
An Afghan national who <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/lakanwal-newly-indicted-shooting-guardsmen-near-white-house-killed-sarah-beckstrom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was brought into the country</a> by the Biden administration in 2021 shot two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 26. Specialist Sarah Beckstrom tragically succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the ambush.
The attack sparked a pause on all immigration applications from foreigners who hail from &#8220;high risk&#8221; countries.
Refugee advocates say the latest move by the Trump administration will open the floodgates for the Trump administration&#8217;s deportation campaign.
&#8220;This policy is a transparent effort to detain and potentially deport thousands of people who are legally present in this country, people the U.S. government itself welcomed after years of extreme vetting,&#8221; said Beth Oppenheim, the CEO of HIAS, which helps with refugee resettlement, according to CBS.

At least two media outlets responded to an Afghan national&#8217;s attack on two National Guardsmen by fretting over how President Donald Trump&#8217;s reaction might hurt refugees.
The suspect in the shooting, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national admitted to the United States in 2021, in the aftermath of former President Joe Biden&#8217;s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. On Wednesday, he opened fire on two National Guardsmen just blocks from the White House, killing one, Sarah Beckstrom and leaving the other, Andrew Wolfe, fighting for his life with critical injuries.
Trump, a vocal critic of the Biden administration&#8217;s Afghanistan failures, <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115625421503636680">quickly promised</a> to &#8220;fix&#8221; the problems created when Biden allowed &#8220;hundreds of thousands of people&#8221; to come into the United States from Afghanistan, &#8220;totally unvetted and unchecked.&#8221;
The president also vowed to &#8220;permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries&#8221; and said that he planned to &#8220;deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.&#8221;
Rather than cover the story straight or report on the risk that Biden&#8217;s refugee policies pose to American citizens, the Associated Press telegraphed concern for Afghan refugees in the United States.

Fox News national correspondent Brooke Taylor reported that Mohammad Dawood Alokozay made it clear in the video that he was building a bomb and had intended to target the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Like the shooting suspect in custody in D.C., Alokozay was brought into the United States in the aftermath of the Afghanistan withdrawal under Biden&#8217;s Operation Allies Welcome. He was granted legal permanent resident status in September 2022.

The U.S. welcomed the first group of Afrikaner refugees in May.
At the time, Trump accused the South African government of committing a &#8220;genocide&#8221; against its white citizens.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio slammed Democrat Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) over his reaction to America’s acceptance of white South African refugees, with the Trump administration official charging that the Democrat doesn’t like the refugees because they’re white.

The hosts of ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; joined a number of other media personalities in claiming that President Donald Trump was only allowing 59 Afrikaners to claim <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/spare-me-scott-jennings-scorches-dems-for-sudden-about-face-on-refugees" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refugee status</a> because they are white — while also claiming that because the Afrikaners are white, they are not &#8220;truly refugees.&#8221;
Sunny Hostin addressed the issue during Thursday&#8217;s broadcast, complaining that the Trump administration had limited refugee status for Afghans and Haitians, to whom she referred as &#8220;truly refugees.&#8221; Hostin also took a swing at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, saying she found it to be an &#8220;insult&#8221; that the former South Dakota Governor holds that position.

&#8220;For me, you know, I think one thing — having Kristi Noem be in charge of Homeland Security, in and of itself, is an insult, it&#8217;s just an insult,&#8221; Hostin began. &#8220;And I think something that we&#8217;re not talking about — enough about — is what Donald Trump did on Monday: the Trump administration allowed in 59 white South African refugees into this country, claiming that they were fleeing racial discrimination and land appropriation.&#8221;
Hostin went on to claim that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa had disputed reports of land appropriation and racially motivated discrimination — despite the fact that Ramaphosa himself signed a bill into law in late January that allows the government to expropriate private property for reasons up to and including &#8220;to promote inclusivity and access to natural resources.&#8221;
The Afrikaners, according to Hostin, did not qualify as refugees. Instead, she referenced refugees from Afghanistan and falsely claimed that the program in place to grant protected status to Afghans &#8220;who helped us&#8221; during the war had been ended. In fact, the <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/afghans-deportation-protections-ending/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> Afghan Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program is entirely separate from the more permanent Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program exclusively for Afghans who were allies during the war.
&#8220;And so the fact that Afghan refugees — people who helped us during the Afghanistan war — who helped us and protected our troops, that program has been dismissed. The fact that Haitians that are truly refugees, they have been denied protected status.&#8221;
&#8220;They&#8217;re not white people. That&#8217;s why they don&#8217;t want them here,&#8221; cohost Joy Behar suggested.
&#8220;She said it, I didn&#8217;t,&#8221; Hostin agreed.

Topline: President Trump secures a $600 billion investment in the U.S. from Saudi Arabia.
President Trump and an entourage of his top officials were in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, where the president secured a $600 billion investment in the United States and the largest arms deal in history. Trump arrived in Qatar on Wednesday morning and plans to visit the United Arab Emirates while negotiating economic deals and signaling a new approach to American foreign policy in the Middle East.
“Far too many American presidents have been afflicted with the notion that it&#8217;s our job to look into the souls of foreign leaders and use U.S. policy to dispense justice for their sins,” Trump said. “It is God&#8217;s job to sit in judgment — my job to defend America and to promote the fundamental interests of stability, prosperity, and peace.&#8221;
Trump also celebrated a recent ceasefire with the Houthis, who agreed to suspend attacks on American shipping in the Red Sea after months of intense aerial bombardment by U.S. military forces. The president announced the cessation of sanctions on Syria, to give the new government, which ousted the Russian- and Iranian-backed Bashar al-Assad last December, “a chance at greatness.&#8221; Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa, formerly known by the nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, is a former Al-Qaeda fighter who fought against American forces in Iraq. He has been Syria&#8217;s president since January and has attempted to rebrand himself as a moderate figure focused more on Syrian interests than jihad.
“In Syria, which has seen so much misery and death, there is a new government that will hopefully succeed in stabilizing the country and keeping peace. That’s what we want to see,” Trump said.
However, Trump’s rhetoric was not entirely dovish – he issued a stern warning to Iran, a longtime regional adversary of the United States that has come perilously close to developing nuclear weapons. “Iran CAN have a much brighter future — but we will NEVER allow them to threaten America and our allies with terrorism or a nuclear attack. The choice is theirs to make.”

Topline: Eight months after his arrest, the federal trial of music mogul Sean &#8220;Diddy&#8221; Combs kicked off this week in Manhattan. The charges Combs faces — including sex trafficking, coercion, and racketeering — have sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
The trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs began on Monday. Prosecutors painted a dark picture, alleging that Combs used his fame, wealth, and multimedia empire to orchestrate a decades-long scheme involving sex trafficking and violence. They claim he lured women with promises of romance or career opportunities, only to force them into “freak offs” — drug-fueled sexual performances involving male prostitutes, some recorded to blackmail victims into silence. They also claim it was particularly during these “freak offs” where women, including his former girlfriend, R&amp;B singer Cassie Ventura, were abused and manipulated.
Combs has been charged with five felony counts: one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and two counts of transportation for prostitution. If convicted, he could face life in prison, with a minimum of 15 years for the sex trafficking charges alone.
On Tuesday, Ventura took the stand and said Combs “too frequently… mashed in [her] head, dragged [her] along the floor, kicked [her], stomped on [her] head.&#8221; She also said he characterized these drug and alcohol-fueled “freak-offs” as part of her “job” and that they increased in frequency over the course of their relationship. She said that in the final years she was with Combs, these sex sessions became “all-consuming” and she spent most of her time engaging in the freak-offs or recovering from them while enduring abuse from Combs.
The jury also heard from Daniel Phillip, a former male escort. He gave graphic testimony about being paid to have sex with Ventura at the Gramercy Park Hotel in 2012 while Combs watched from the corner, masturbating and directing the encounters. He also recounted a disturbing incident where Combs allegedly forced him to urinate into Ventura’s mouth. Phillip also said he witnessed Combs’ physical abuse when he threw a liquor bottle at Ventura, dragged her into a bedroom, and slapped her as she screamed, “I’m sorry!” Phillip said he was “terrified” to intervene, citing Combs’ power and nearby bodyguards.
Combs’ defense admitted their client is a “complicated man” with flaws, including a history of drug use and domestic violence, but stressed that domestic abuse is not a federal crime and insisted this isn’t a racketeering or trafficking case. Teny Geragos, one of Combs’ attorneys who is the daughter of celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos, told jurors, “This is about Sean Combs’ private sex life,” emphasizing that the women involved, including Ventura, were “strong, capable, and in love with him,” making consensual choices.
<h2>Afrikaner Refugees Arrive In The United States</h2>

Topline: The first group of white Afrikaners who were granted refugee status by the Trump administration arrived in the United States this week, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/12/trump-afrikaners-refugees-immigration-00342029?utm_source=chatgpt.com">sparking outrage</a> on the Left.
Afrikaners are a South African ethnic group. Fifty-nine Afrikaner men, women, and children arrived in America this week, many of them farmers. They were vetted and granted refugee status very quickly, within a matter of months – the refugee vetting process ordinarily takes years. President Trump, who has been outspokenly opposed to the treatment of white South Africans by their government, signed an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/addressing-egregious-actions-of-the-republic-of-south-africa/">executive order</a> in February to end aid to South Africa over its discriminatory racial policies, specifically pertaining to white farmers. The order notes that South Africa has taken “aggressive positions” toward the U.S. and her allies, including Israel, and also notes the recently enacted Expropriation Act, which the order said enables the South African government “to seize” Afrikaners&#8217; agricultural property without compensation.”
The State Department said Afrikaners face unjust racial discrimination in South Africa, and added that no one should be subject to “violent attacks because of their ethnicity.” One refugee said that she was attacked on her farm four different times. She said that Afrikaners are being blamed and targeted for the past apartheid in South Africa. Hundreds of people have been killed on farms in just the last four years or so. Not all of those people were white, but many were.
“What’s happening in South Africa fits the textbook definition of why the refugee program was created,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said. “This is persecution based on a protected characteristic, in this case, race. This is race-based persecution. The refugee program is not intended as a solution for global poverty.”
The Left has argued that Trump is favoring these refugees because they’re white – they’ve cited the president’s moves to halt most of the refugee programs established under Joe Biden from nations like Afghanistan, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Trump argues that those programs did not vet refugees properly, especially from those nations that are considered high-risk.

The Trump administration on Monday defended its decision to offer refugee status to dozens of white Afrikaners who said they were persecuted in South Africa.
President Donald Trump in a press briefing at the White House defended welcoming 49 Afrikaners who arrived on a U.S.-chartered flight from South Africa on Monday. Trump told reporters that white Afrikaners are “being killed” in a “genocide.”
“They’re being killed, and we don&#8217;t want to see people be killed,” Trump said. “It&#8217;s a terrible thing that&#8217;s taking place. Farmers are being killed. They happen to be white, but whether they&#8217;re white or black makes no difference to me. But white farmers are being brutally killed and their land is being confiscated in South Africa, and the newspapers and the television media doesn&#8217;t even talk about it.”
The president mentioned that the United States may choose to skip the upcoming G20 summit to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in November unless the South African government takes steps to stop the persecution.
The refugee policy sparked questions of race, since the persecuted Afrikaners are white and targeted because of their race.
“I don&#8217;t care who they are. I don&#8217;t care about their race, their color. I don&#8217;t care about their height, their weight. I don&#8217;t care about anything,” Trump said. “I just know that what&#8217;s happening is terrible. I have people that live in South Africa. They say it&#8217;s a terrible situation taking place, so we&#8217;ve essentially extended citizenship to those people to escape from that violence and come here.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed Trump’s comments in a <a href="https://x.com/secrubio/status/1921990312999735528" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> on X: “​​The South African government has treated these people terribly — threatening to steal their private land and subjected them to vile racial discrimination. The Trump Administration is proud to offer them refuge in our great country.”
The South African government has denied that white farmers are being persecuted.
“They can’t provide any proof of any persecution because there’s not any,” said Ronald Lamola, the country’s international relations and cooperation minister, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/05/12/afrikaner-refugees-arrive-dulles-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Washington Post</a>. “There is not any form of persecution to white South Africans.”
The U.S. president suspended aid to South Africa in February. In the executive order directing the action, Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/addressing-egregious-actions-of-the-republic-of-south-africa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> the South African government of “fueling” violence against white landowners and legislating “to seize ethnic minority Afrikaners’ agricultural property without compensation.”
Trump ally Elon Musk, who was born in South Africa, has <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1886321811937189902" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that his former home has “openly racist ownership laws.”
