More than 30,000 wireless power banks have been <a href="https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/ESR-HaloLock-Wireless-Power-Banks-Recalled-Due-to-Fire-and-Burn-Hazards-Distributed-by-Waymeet">recalled</a> over risk of fire and explosions.
The recall involves ESR HaloLock Wireless Power Banks with model numbers 2G520, 2G505B and 2G512B, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The power banks have &#8220;ESR&#8221; printed on the back and the model number on the side. They also have &#8220;five circular LED display lights&#8221; on the side.
&#8220;The lithium-ion battery in the recalled power banks can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers,&#8221; the CPSC said.
The CSPC added that consumers should stop using the power banks immediately and contact Waymeet for a refund.
There have been nine reports of the power banks catching fire and exploding, the agency said. There have been no reported injures, but the malfunctions caused about $20,000 in property damage.

About 24,000 power banks were sold in the United States and about 10,000 in Canada between September 2023 and July 2025.
Consumers can email support@erstech.com with a photo of the recalled power bank with the model number and &#8220;recalled&#8221; written on the device in permanent marker.
The CPSC said consumers should dispose of the devices according to state and local guidelines. Lithium batteries pose a greater risk of fire than normal batteries and cannot be disposed in normal garbage or recycling bins.
More than one million Anker power banks were <a href="https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/More-than-One-Million-Anker-Power-Banks-Recalled-Due-to-Fire-and-Burn-Hazards-Manufactured-by-Anker-Innovations">recalled</a> in June for a similar problem, according to the agency.

Waymo, the software company that was first known as the Google Self-Driving Car Project, recalled more than 1,200 of its robotaxis this week after a software glitch caused multiple crashes into chains, gates, or other roadway barriers.
The recall comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into Waymo robotaxis after reports of the automated cars violating traffic laws, CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/14/waymo-recalls-1200-self-driving-vehicles-after-minor-collisions.html#:~:text=Alphabet's%20Waymo%20is%20recalling%20more,opened%20a%20probe%20last%20year." target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Waymo said it was aware of 16 collisions with barriers between 2022 and 2024, none of which were serious. The company currently has more than 1,500 robotaxis operating in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Austin.

Road safety regulators said that some of the crashes “involved collisions with clearly visible objects that a competent driver would be expected to avoid.”
Waymo said it has fixed the issue with a regular update to its fifth-generation self-driving software in November of 2024.
“Waymo provides more than 250,000 paid trips every week in some of the most challenging driving environments in the U.S.,” the company said, according to CNBC. “Our record of reducing injuries over tens of millions of fully autonomous miles driven shows our technology is making roads safer.”
It&#8217;s at least the third time in the past year that Waymo has recalled robotaxis over potential software issues. In February, the company recalled 444 automated vehicles after two robotaxis crashed into the same truck that was being towed, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/14/business/waymo-recalls-1200-robotaxis-over-glitch-linked-to-crashes/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Post</a>. Last June, 700 robotaxis were recalled after one crashed into a telephone pole in Phoenix. No one was injured in that crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is also looking into Tesla&#8217;s planned launch of its own robotaxi service, which it hopes to start up in June. The federal government has <a href="https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/2024/INIM-PE24031-62887.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> Tesla to provide more information on its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system to “understand how Tesla plans to evaluate its vehicles and driving automation technologies for use on public roads.” The feds also want to know how many robotaxis Tesla plans on sending out and if the vehicles will be monitored by Tesla in real time.

We&#8217;ve completed over 1.5k trips &amp; 15k miles of driving. Retail giant <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/costco">Costco</a> has recalled close to 80,000 pounds of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/food">butter</a> due to an error on the packaging.
The FDA sent out an initial recall for 79,200 pounds of both unsalted and salted Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter in October due to the label failing to say the product “contains milk.”  Packages for both variations include “cream” on the ingredients list, but that was not enough to avoid a recall. Costco created the Kirkland Signature line in 1995.
On November 7, the FDA classified the recall as Class II, which is &#8220;a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,&#8221; per the administration’s <a href="https://www.fda.gov/safety/industry-guidance-recalls/recalls-background-and-definitions">website</a>.
Reactions on social media were filled with mockery.

News articles are telling people how they can return, or safely dispose of, the butter. It’s butter,” one popular X reaction <a href="https://x.com/RealSpikeCohen/status/1855830188594012492">said</a>.

Another commenter <a href="https://x.com/cactusncookies/status/1855848231097295356">quipped</a>, “Can y’all please safely dispose of it at my house? I have a lot of holiday baking to do.”
“But if the butter is mislabeled, consumers would literally be spreading misinformation—all over their toast, bagels, pancakes, baked potatoes, muffins—it’s too horrific to think about,” another joking response <a href="https://x.com/utterboor/status/1855840676526629189">said</a>.
Despite all the mockery, some social media users agreed with the recall. 
“The laws exist to make sure that any food that contains a recognized allergen is labeled as such. Yeah in this case it seems silly, but how do you codify ‘you must label food that contains allergens, unless posters on Twitter decide that it&#8217;s obvious enough on its own’?” one person <a href="https://x.com/tempestis/status/1856031369014718469">wrote</a>.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) lists milk as one of the main foods that &#8220;account for most serious allergic reactions in the United States.&#8221;

Let&#8217;s get one thing straight from the get-go: this isn&#8217;t a partisan thing.
The fact that the two senators are Democrats has nothing to do with the call for voters to bounce them from office. For the record, I think voters in New York&#8217;s 3rd congressional district should recall Republican Rep. George Santos, too.
But really, Sens. Dianne Feinstein and John Fetterman are not mentally fit to serve in the Senate. How much more proof do we need?!
Feinstein, 89, was out for months after being hospitalized for shingles. She has missed more than 70% of the votes in the 118th Senate. When she finally returned, she was in a wheelchair.
But what happened Tuesday clearly shows that Feinstein can no longer execute her duties of office.
Feinstein, who has been in politics for 53 years, was asked by reporters about her lengthy absence and how her colleagues reacted upon her return.
&#8220;No, I haven&#8217;t been gone,&#8221; she said, Slate <a href="https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/05/dianne-feinstein-health-return-to-senate.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. &#8220;You should follow the — I haven&#8217;t been gone, I&#8217;ve been working.&#8221;
One reporter asked whether she had been working from home.
&#8220;No, I&#8217;ve been here. I&#8217;ve been voting,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Please, you either know or don&#8217;t know.&#8221;
Oh, we know, DiFi. You have not &#8220;been here.&#8221; In fact, you haven&#8217;t &#8220;been here&#8221; mentally for quite some time.
And let&#8217;s slow down a second. The California Democrat has been elected over and over, so she must be pleasing her constituents. And she&#8217;s devoted her life to public service, so, bravo.
But over the last couple of years, there have been more and more stories about how Feinstein is often confused. One member of Congress who met with Feinstein last year said the once feisty senator had clearly lost a step — or seven.
“I have worked with her for a long time and long enough to know what she was like just a few years ago: always in command, always in charge, on top of the details, basically couldn’t resist a conversation where she was driving some bill or some idea. All of that is gone,” the lawmaker <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/dianne-feinstein-senate-17079487.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the San Francisco Chronicle.
Fetterman is even worse. He suffered a stroke during his Senate campaign but voters elected him anyway. He has serious cognitive and hearing issues. And just weeks into his term, he disappeared for five weeks to deal with depression.
But what he did Tuesday clearly shows he is incapable of handling a U.S. senator&#8217;s heady duties.
During a Q&amp;A session at the Senate Banking Committee hearing, Fetterman was the last senator to question officials about the Silicon Valley Bank collapse earlier this year.
&#8220;So, I went up on the Internet, and it’s like, it did happen. It did happen. It did happen,&#8221; Fetterman said, holding up a clipping of a New York Post headline titled &#8220;Ex-Silicon Valley Bank CEO Greg Becker jets to Hawaii after collapse.&#8221;
&#8220;And it’s in Fortune, the second-biggest bank in U.S. history collapsed and chose to go to Hawaii on that,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;You know, I’ve never been to Hawaii and neither has my family. I guess I’ve never cranked, excuse me, crashed a bank.&#8221;
Fetterman asked the officials if it was &#8220;a running joke&#8221; in the banking community that the federal government would bail them out. Former Silicon Valley Bank CEO Gregory Becker said he does not &#8220;believe that’s the case.&#8221;
&#8220;Really? Because every bank you seemingly that crashed, it’s like, ‘We can bail him out. This one crashed, we’ll bail them out,’&#8221; Fetterman said. &#8220;So far, everything’s been true. So, doesn’t it feel that now if a bank really believed that they wouldn’t be bailed out, now after bailing them out, these couple of bailouts, they are going to.&#8221;
&#8220;Do you believe that that is not outrageous that, no matter how deplorable your performance is, you are made as whole and all by … taxpapers [sic],&#8221; the Pennsylvania senator said. &#8220;So what do yous [sic] believe?&#8221;

Then there was this word salad.
&#8220;It’s astonishing. That’s like if you have, I mean like, and they also realize is that now they have … a guaranteed way to be saved by, again, by no matter, by how?&#8221; Fetterman said. &#8220;Isn’t it appropriate that this kind of control should be more stricter to prevent this kind of thing from going, or should we go on start bailing and sailing whoever bank regardless of how … their conduct is?&#8221;
Look, it&#8217;s sad what happened to Fetterman, who is just 53. And we all hope for a full recovery. But he&#8217;s simply not able to perform his duties. Nor is Feinstein.
It&#8217;s time for California and Pennsylvania voters to recall them for the good of the nation.

Two months after the effort to recall Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón failed, the campaign committee <a href="https://www.recalldageorgegascon.com/for-immediate-release-initial-review-reveals-substantial-number-of-improperly-invalidated-signatures-recall-committee-to-file-for-injunctive-relief-against-registrar-of-voters/">announced</a> Monday it plans to sue the county’s Registrar of Voters, alleging the voter rolls were artificially inflated, and some signatures were falsely invalidated.
According to the Committee, independent and non-partisan data analysts estimated that Los Angeles County active voter rolls were allegedly overshot between at least 208,000 and up to 515,000 voters when county officials initially set the number of valid signatures for the recall to qualify.
If the estimate proves true, the effort to remove Gascón from office could have advanced onto a ballot.
“The initial review of invalidated signatures demonstrated “the Registrar’s counting process was seriously flawed, resulting in substantial errors, the wrongful invalidation of many valid signatures, and the disenfranchisement of thousands of Los Angeles County Voters,” the Committee wrote in a <a href="https://www.recalldageorgegascon.com/for-immediate-release-initial-review-reveals-substantial-number-of-improperly-invalidated-signatures-recall-committee-to-file-for-injunctive-relief-against-registrar-of-voters/">statement</a>. “These extremely disturbing findings necessitate a complete and timely review of all invalidated signatures.”
The effort to recall Gascón emerged after the controversial district attorney took office in December 2020. Critics of Gascón formed the recall after his so-called progressive policies, like eliminating cash bail for misdemeanor and some felony offenses, reformed the City of Angels.
According to the Committee, volunteers began reviewing the invalid signatures on September 6 to lawfully examine within 21 days after the Registrar’s office announced the petition had failed to meet the requirements.
The Committee claims that 39% of invalid signatures reviewed were improperly falsified as printed, non-matching, and unregistered. Others were marked invalid due to duplicate signatures, while some had filled in a different address instead of the one registered toward the voter.
The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean C. Logan said last August his office had finished verifying the 715,833 petition signatures sent in to recall the controversial progressive DA.
To qualify for the recall, 566,857 valid petition signatures were needed to advance.
Logan’s office reported only 520,050 valid signatures were recorded, with the remaining 195,783 signatures marked as invalid, claiming ​nearly 90,000 of them were unregistered to vote and approximately 45,000 were duplicates. ​
Officials argue such issues could have substantially affected the outcome of the recall and have accused the Registrar of placing “arbitrary and capricious limitations” on the review process that limits the number of hours, workstations, and number of reviewers to information that will help them determine whether the invalid signatures are legitimate.​”
“This review is currently being obstructed by the Registrar’s office,” the Committee <a href="https://www.recalldageorgegascon.com/for-immediate-release-initial-review-reveals-substantial-number-of-improperly-invalidated-signatures-recall-committee-to-file-for-injunctive-relief-against-registrar-of-voters/">said</a>. “The Recall DA George Gascon Committee will be filing for injunctive relief imminently and is also exploring other significant issues, such as the inaccurate and inflated number of signatures required to qualify the recall due to bloated voter rolls.”
A Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s office spokesperson told The Daily Wire that officials have not seen the petition for relief yet.
Recall officials said that current restrictions imposed by the Registrar would take more than a year to review the invalidated signatures.

An exclusive <a href="https://redstate.com/jenvanlaar/2022/08/18/exclusive-recall-gascon-committee-failed-to-pre-validate-signatures-hired-incompetent-vendors-n614367" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> by RedState found that the campaign to recall Los Angeles District Attorney <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/george-gascon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George Gascón</a> was unsuccessful due to the campaign’s negligence and willingness to turn in invalid petition signatures, mislead donors, and allegedly request workers to break the law. 
On August 15, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/los-angeles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LA</a> County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RRCC) Dean Logan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/george-gascon-recall-effort-fails" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that the recall campaign had not successfully turned in the necessary amount of signatures. Of the more than 715,000 signatures given to Logan, over 195,000 were found to be invalid. 
“Based on the examination and verification, which conducted in compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements of the California Government Code, Elections Code, and Code of Regulations, 520,050 signatures were found to be valid and 195,783 were found to be invalid,” Logan’s office <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/los-angeles-county-da-george-gascon-recall-petition-found-insufficient-qualify-ballot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a news release.
The recall effort needed to submit 566,857 valid petition signatures in order to qualify for the ballot in November. 
RedState had discussions with sources and whistleblowers and examined materials surrounding the recall effort’s failure. The outlet claimed that the effort was unsuccessful because the campaign’s funds were under the thumb of political consultants who worked with vendors in a dishonest way and were more committed to making money than turning in accurate signatures. 
Cassandra Vandenberg was widely known as the person in charge of the committee, but an anonymous whistleblower told RedState that Vandenberg was aware signatures were being included from people who were located outside of the county or non-voters and told campaign staff to keep them on the petitions “because we need the numbers.”
RedState reportedly spoke to witnesses and examined documents that showed a large number of circulators — the people who collect the signatures — didn’t finish the attestation section correctly. The person who collected the signatures is required to attest to every page of signatures. These mistakes were not noticed by hired validation firms, the firm that collected signatures, or the campaign committee until the petitions were almost ready to be submitted on July 6, according to the report. 
The campaign also hired Let the Voters Decide (LTVD), a signature-gathering firm, with whom they have ongoing litigation, RedState reported. LTVD claims they didn’t carry out any verification because they were aware that the validation firms were doing that.
Multiple L.A. County residents also complained of the strange and pushy behavior of the signature gatherers, with one Twitter user <a href="https://twitter.com/MsRedbarn/status/1559918759472611328?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1559919491554762752%7Ctwgr%5Eff5383f2768fc12d8e8160f57f9d8bf0b7d6b9e5%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&amp;ref_url=https://redstate.com/jenvanlaar/2022/08/18/exclusive-recall-gascon-committee-failed-to-pre-validate-signatures-hired-incompetent-vendors-n614367" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commenting</a> that they asked her to sign even though she had already done so.

LTVD also submitted tens of thousands of signatures on the last day. Sources reportedly told RedState that there were ongoing negotiations over payment between the group and Vandenberg, with Vandenberg telling the office a few days before the deadline that she needed to bring in over $700,000 that weekend. Some people theorized this was because she needed to pay LTVD so they would turn over their signatures, but she didn’t explain the reason, according to the outlet. People within the campaign said Vandenberg doubled that threshold, the report stated. 
The outlet also reported that documents revealed that the campaign committee overly exaggerated the amount of signatures gathered at specific times during the campaign in order to get more financial donations.  
The campaign complained about procedural items concerning the count, which RedState says are not entirely fair. Logan’s office, however, had not given the committee information about how they can examine the rejected signatures and verification procedure as of August 17, per RedState’s sources.

In a long <a href="https://twitter.com/chesaboudin/status/1555228386074787840?s=20&amp;t=bc4KIu-QHaXjgjg5CsZWGA">Twitter thread</a> Thursday afternoon, Boudin explained that he was not running for re-election in November, citing family reasons. Boudin went on the tout the criminal justice reforms he enacted while serving as the city&#8217;s top prosecutor and took a few parting shots at his replacement, Brooke Jenkins, who has already begun to undo Boudin&#8217;s work after he was soundly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/san-fran-votes-overwhelmingly-to-oust-woke-soros-prosecutor-from-office-in-major-rejection-of-far-left">recalled</a> by the voters of San Francisco in June.
&#8220;Over the past weeks I&#8217;ve spoken to family, friends, supporters and everyday San Franciscans about how we can best continue to make our criminal justice system fairer and more effective,&#8221; Boudin wrote. &#8220;I have devoted my public life to this effort because it makes our communities stronger &amp; safer. I’ve also taken stock of the burden that more than three years of nearly non-stop campaigning placed on my family. I’m committed to criminal justice reform; I’m also committed to my family.&#8221;
Boudin then mentioned his father&#8217;s return from prison; Boudin&#8217;s father, David Gilbert, was released from jail in November. A member of the far-left terrorist group Weather Underground, Gilbert was serving a 75-years-to-life sentence for his role in an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/took-part-in-murderous-holdup-new-york-times-deletes-replaces-tweet-about-san-francisco-leftist-das-terrorist-mom">armed robbery</a> of a Brinks armored truck in New York in which two police officers and the truck guard were killed. His sentence was commuted by former Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cuomo-grants-clemency-to-hard-left-san-francisco-das-dad-who-was-convicted-of-murder">Andrew Cuomo</a> (D-NY) on his last day in office in August 2021. The former DA also mentioned his mother&#8217;s death in May, as well as his wife and infant son as reasons for his decision to bow out.
&#8220;I am choosing to put my family first: I will not be running for office in 2022,&#8221; Boudin said.
Boudin went on to tout his record as DA. &#8220;We made a lot of progress in a short period of time,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;I am particularly proud of our significant expansion of victims services, including new programs to serve our AAPI community and the appointment of the first-ever multilingual Chinese American Victim Services Chief, our resentencing work that offered second chances to those who had caused harm and supported victims, our restorative justice work, our focus on accountability through behavioral health treatment, our Innocence Commission’s exoneration of a wrongly-convicted man, our innovative program tackling auto burglary fencing operations, our creation of a worker protection unit, our litigation against manufacturers of ghost guns, and our historic strides in police accountability.&#8221;

Boudin concluded his thread by taking parting shots at his successor, Brooke Jenkins, who has already begun to unravel much of his work. &#8220;I am gravely concerned by what I’ve seen from the current, appointed District Attorney. We have heard no assurances that the successful programs we’ve implemented will continue, and indeed, we see worrying signs every day as progress is rolled back. The maker of Banana Boat sunscreen <a href="https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/edgewell-personal-care-issues-voluntary-nationwide-recall-banana-boat-hair-scalp-sunscreen-due">announced</a> on Friday it has voluntarily recalled three batches of its Hair &amp; Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 after finding some samples of the product contained trace levels of a cancer-causing chemical.
Edgewell Personal Care Company, which submitted the announcement to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said an internal review reported that some product samples contained a human carcinogen known as benzene. The batches were set to expire in December 2022, February 2023, and April 2024.
&#8220;Importantly, no other batches of Hair &amp; Scalp (either before or after the impacted production batches) and no other Banana Boat products are in the scope of this recall and may continue to be used by consumers safely and as intended,&#8221; an Edgewell spokesperson told <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.npr.org/2022/07/31/1114770333/banana-boat-sunscreen-recall" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NPR</a>. &#8220;We are conducting this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution.&#8221;
The manufacturer said the review showed that unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can. However, Edgewell officials said Banana Boat products do not contain such chemicals.
&#8220;Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin, and it potentially can result in cancers including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening,&#8221; Edgewell officials said. &#8220;Benzene is ubiquitous in the environment,&#8221; the statement reads. &#8220;Humans around the world have daily exposures to it indoors and outdoors from multiple sources.&#8221; 
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes benzene as a colorless or light-yellow liquid chemical at room temperature with a sweet odor and highly flammable. It evaporates quickly into the air, only slightly dissolves in water, stays afloat on top of water.
An independent health assessment from the manufacturer claims daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences.
Officials said the manufacturer had not yet received any adverse events related to the recall. 
Edgewell distributed the sunscreen products nationwide through various retailers and online and has notified its base to remove any remaining recalled products from the shelves. Those who have purchased the product from the specific recalled batches are entitled to a refund.
&#8220;Consumers should stop using the affected product immediately and appropriately discard,&#8221; officials said.

Banana Boat Recalls Sunscreen Product After Detecting Cancer-Causing Chemical

Amid facing a recall for his &#8220;<a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.recalldageorgegascon.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pro-criminal agenda</a>,&#8221; Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón&#8217;s office told prosecutors on Tuesday his administration plans to dissolve a unit that contacts victims and their family members when authorities either schedule a parole hearing for the attacker, releases their attacker, or their attacker has died.
Gascón&#8217;s office confirmed to <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/los-angeles-da-gascon-disbands-unit-notifies-victims-assailants-parole-hearings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> the Parole Division Bureau of Prosecution Support Operations, otherwise known as the &#8220;Lifer Unit,&#8221; will disband by the end of the year, adding it&#8217;s the responsibility of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to inform victims of such events.
&#8220;While a victim has a right to be notified, they also have a right NOT to be contacted,&#8221; Gascón&#8217;s office told <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1547374514308276232/photo/1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>. &#8220;Contacting victims and their next of kin can be very triggering, especially if they do not welcome the intrusion.&#8221;
Yet Julianne Walker, a deputy district attorney in the unit, debunked the claim from Gascón&#8217;s office, saying while the CDCR provides every victim and their family member with a form at or before sentencing, the process does not routinely occur.
&#8220;Even when a family has registered 15, 20, 25 years ago, the information is often out of date, and CDCR makes no effort to find the current contact info,&#8221; Walker <a href="https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1547379045024862212">told</a> Fox News. &#8220;The onus is put entirely on the traumatized victim and their families.&#8221;
Walker added that changes in laws allowed for early parole dates for perpetrators without the victims, their families, or public knowledge.
Gascón&#8217;s office said lawyers in the parole unit had used Victim Service Representatives, paralegals, and investigator resources to contact victims or family members who have asked for privacy.
But Walker argues such representatives do not understand parole hearing legalities as they&#8217;re technically not lawyers and only have skills to provide emotional support and services.
&#8220;Gascón continually puts forth &#8216;services&#8217; as if he is protecting their rights,&#8221; she said. &#8220;He&#8217;s not.&#8221;
&#8220;He is abandoning their constitutional rights and thinks a band-aid of some type of service like counseling will make up for his refusal to protect their rights,&#8221; she added.
Expert consultants have convinced the Los Angeles D.A.&#8217;s office to believe the trauma-informed approach falls short for victims.
However, Deputy District Attorney Walker said Gascón&#8217;s administration does not have a trauma-informed approach and called the terminology offensive and hurtful.
&#8220;Further, how is it possibly trauma-informed to deny victims and their families current information and the legal expertise of a DDA at the hearing and in preparation of their statements,&#8221; she said.
Gascón&#8217;s office said former Los Angles District Attorney Jackie Lacey&#8217;s administration initially disbanded the Lifer Unit claiming it went from 15 lawyers down to three lawyers before Gascón took office. But Walker again argued that contract employees and others were either let go or not rehired due to county-wide budget shortfalls from COVID-19.
She said district attorneys were still sent to parole hearings but as volunteers. But when during Gascón&#8217;s first week, victims she had prepped had &#8220;the rug pulled out from under them&#8221; when policies that allowed district attorneys to attend hearings were dropped.
&#8220;It was horrible to tell these families the news,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Heartbreaking.&#8221;
Los Angeles District Deputy Attorney John Lewin told Fox News that Gascón&#8217;s intention not only leaves victims and their families unaware of their attacker&#8217;s parole hearings but also keeps prosecutors and district attorney&#8217;s offices in the dark.
&#8220;When that happens, that means that (Gascon) and his public defender cronies can, in essence, do what they&#8217;re doing in the dark, and no one will ever know,&#8221; Lewin said.
Fox News reported that Gascón recently banned prosecutors from attending parole hearings.
Organizers running Gascón&#8217;s recall said his policies turned Los Angeles into a nightmare by emboldening criminals, abandoning victims, and leaving residents feeling unsafe.
The effort to recall Gascón submitted over 700,000 signatures to the County Registrar&#8217;s office earlier this month — more than 150,000 more than required. The Registrar&#8217;s office has 30 days to verify the signatures. If the recall has enough verified signatures, Los Angeles residents have the chance to remove Gascón from office in November.
Los Angeles Magazine <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.lamag.com/citythinkblog/gascon-halts-da-office-notifying-victims-of-assailants-parole-hearings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> the controversial district attorney spoke to his supporters at a fundraising event for the anti-recall group Stand with Gascón.
&#8220;You sent me to the D.A.&#8217;s office to reform the criminal justice system—by ending mass incarceration, ending cash bail, ending the death penalty, and protecting our communities by holding cops accountable,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve done — and that&#8217;s what I&#8217;ll continue to do as D.A.&#8221;

Los Angeles County District Attorney <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/george-gascon">George Gascón</a> joined local station KTLA 5 Saturday morning to defend his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/recall-this-piece-of-garbage-soft-on-crime-los-angeles-da-gascon-slammed-after-thug-on-probation-kills-two-cops">record</a> as he faces a potential recall.
Gascón was <a href="https://ktla.com/news/local-news/l-a-county-da-gascon-responds-to-soft-on-crime-criticism/">asked</a> by news anchors Lynette Romero and Mark Meester to respond to those criticizing him as a “soft-on-crime” DA as L.A. has seen an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/six-cities-pace-pass-violent-crime-2022">8.6% rise</a> in violent crime over the past year.
When pressed on if he believed L.A. county was safer because of what he had done, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/george-gascon">Gascón</a> responded, &#8220;Yeah, in some areas it is.&#8221;
“I think it’s important to start out by saying that I was a police officer for many years before I was the district attorney. I know how to keep communities safe,” Gascón added.
The DA went on to blame the COVID pandemic for the crime and homelessness problems facing L.A., and said crime rates were increasing in cities across the country, not just in L.A.
“We’re coming out of the pandemic that has had a tremendous impact not only on L.A. County, but throughout the nation,&#8221; Gascón commented. &#8220;The reality is that crime is up around the nation, in fact some of our neighboring counties per capita are having higher levels of violence than we are.”
Gascón continued to deflect criticisms of his handling of L.A. County, saying there is a “national problem,” and L.A. is starting to “come out of it.”
“There are a lot of things that are not working. I see them. I’m frustrated as much as the next person. It is a national problem. It’s not just an L.A. problem. But L.A. in many ways is actually beginning to come out of it,” he said.
The leftist DA has faced mounting criticism over his handling of multiple criminal cases. Earlier this month, two El Monte police officers in L.A. County were “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/murdered-by-a-coward-two-california-police-officers-killed-after-being-essentially-ambushed">essentially ambushed</a>” and killed by gang member Justin William Flores. Flores reportedly got a reduced prison time — thanks to a Gascón policy — after he pleaded no contest to a charge of possessing a weapon as a felon.
Sources within the DA’s office reportedly told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/mother-slain-california-police-officer-blames-la-county-da-george-gascon">Fox News</a> that if Flores would have been charged in February 2021, he would have likely landed in prison for three years.
In another incident, a teenager got a slap on the wrist of five to seven months in a juvenile camp after he was caught on video running over a woman and her two-month-old baby in a hit-and-run. The mother and her infant son somehow survived, but she blasted Gascón for his alleged soft-on-crime policies.
The campaign effort to recall Gascón has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/campaign-to-recall-radical-la-district-attorney-is-a-go-report">reached</a> a threshold of 567,000 signatures, enough to initiate a recall, but it wants an additional 100,000 to 150,000 signatures to ensure the recall qualifies, as the campaign expects the registrar to deem some invalid.
The deadline for signature submissions for the recall is July 6.

Japanese automakers Toyota and Subaru announced a recall on their first mass-produced <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/electric-cars">electric vehicles</a> (EVs) Thursday because their wheels could potentially fall off.
Toyota, the world’s largest car seller, said it would be recalling 2,700 of its bZ4X SUVs, 260 of which were reserved for the United States. Subaru also announced a recall the same day on 2,600 of its Solterras, the company’s first all-electric vehicle made in partnership with Toyota, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/toyota-recalls-2700-electric-vehicles-2022-06-23/">according</a> to a report from Reuters.
“Japan&#8217;s safety regulator said sharp turns and sudden braking could cause a hub bolt to loosen, raising the risk of a wheel coming off the vehicle. It said it was not aware of any accidents being caused by the defect,” Reuters reported.
A spokesperson for Toyota warned, “No one should drive these vehicles until the remedy is performed,” <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/24/toyota-issues-recall-for-electric-suv-following-concerns-about-wheels.html">according</a> to CNBC. Japan’s safety regulators also said people should not drive the recalled vehicles until the company figured out a “permanent” repair measure.
&#8220;We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this causes you,&#8221; Toyota said on its website. &#8220;We would have repaired it as soon as possible, but we are investigating the details.&#8221;
A Subaru spokesperson said none of its recalled Solterras had been delivered to U.S. customers yet.
The EV recall comes as some Democrats have touted switching from gasoline and diesel-fueled cars to EVs as gas prices hit <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-u-s-national-average-price-of-gasoline-hits-new-all-time-record-high-report-says">record highs</a> in recent months. Earlier this month, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tone-deaf-while-americans-suffer-inflation-dem-senator-brags-about-avoiding-gas-prices-with-her-ev">bragged</a> about avoiding gas prices by driving her EV from Michigan to Washington, D.C.
“I do have to say, on the issue of gas prices, after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle, I got it and drove it from Michigan to here last weekend, and went by every single gas station. It didn’t matter how high (gas prices) was,” Stabenow said.
“And so I’m looking forward to the opportunity for us to move to vehicles that aren’t going to be dependent on the whims of the oil companies and the international markets,” the senator added.

Abbott Nutrition is reopening its baby formula manufacturing facility in Sturgis, Michigan, after it was at the center of national attention as part of the baby formula shortage.
In a press release Saturday, Abbott Nutrition announced that it would open its plant in accordance with the provisions of a consent agreement reached by the company and the Food and Drug Administration. The company previously announced they would be reopening the facility <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fda-announces-when-the-baby-formula-shortage-will-likely-end">last week</a>. The facility was shut down in February.
&#8220;Abbott is restarting infant formula production at its Sturgis, Mich., facility today after meeting initial requirements agreed to with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as part of the consent decree entered into on May 16,&#8221; the company said in its <a href="https://www.abbott.com/corpnewsroom/nutrition-health-and-wellness/abbott-update-on-powder-formula-recall.html">press release</a>. &#8220;Abbott is starting production of EleCare and other specialty and metabolic formulas, with initial EleCare product release to consumers beginning on or about June 20. We&#8217;re also working hard to fulfill the steps necessary to restart production of Similac and other formulas and will do so as soon as we can. We understand the urgent need for formula and our top priority is getting high-quality, safe formula into the hands of families across America. We will ramp production as quickly as we can while meeting all requirements. Abbott closed the Sturgis facility and initiated a voluntary recall of three types on infant formula produced there after several babies who consumed formula were reported to have contracted a rare bacterial infection. According to the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/science-health-government-and-politics-1e54ff345ab2a4be93f2e24d991e4450">Associated Press</a>, the FDA conducted an investigation and found traces of the cronobacter bacteria on several surfaces in the facility. But the strains found in the plant were not in areas where the formula was made, and did not match the strains found in samples of the contaminated formula. The AP noted, citing information from the CDC, that cronobacter is a naturally occurring environmental bacteria. Infections are rare, but can be fatal in babies, causing fever, blood infections, and brain swelling. Nearly all previous outbreaks were linked to baby formula, since it is not normally exposed to high temperatures used to kill germs in other foods. But the bacteria can also get into baby formula if a dirty scoop is used, or if it is mixed with water contaminated with it.
The Abbott facility was at the center of national attention because it produced several types of specialty formula for infants with allergies, as well as metabolic and digestive problems, but the formula shortage had been an issue long before that. The shortage originated during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the supply chain was broken by worker shortages and manufacturing plant shutdowns.
Health and Human Services Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-biden-official-claims-administration-knew-about-baby-formula-shortage-last-year">Xavier Becerra</a> told CNN that the Biden administration had been aware of the shortage since last year, as The Daily Wire reported. Biden himself told reporters at a press conference earlier this week that he had been aware of the shortage since <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-says-he-became-aware-of-baby-formula-shortage-in-early-april">early April</a>, but the crisis was not publicly addressed by the White House until May 13.
