For many years, various shades of white and beige dominated the home trend market, but now, gradually, color is coming back in a big way. And there are several colors that could make you more money when it comes time to sell your house, plus others that could cost you.
According to Zillow’s <a href="https://www.zillow.com/learn/best-paint-colors-sell-house/">2026 Paint Color Analysis</a>, the interior paint color choice that saw the biggest return was chocolate brown in a bedroom. The report found that bedroom walls in this hue could add an estimated $2,277 to a home’s offer price.
Maybe it has something to do with the dark, moody hue. But brown was not the only color making home sellers some extra cash. While white walls are seen as a blank slate, sometimes potential buyers need a little assistance envisioning themselves living in a space.
It was also discovered that pale blue living room walls could add about $1,723 to an offer price. That was more than white or gray walls, which were both calculated to add around $1,509. Charcoal gray kitchens were found to boost a home’s offer price by nearly $1,373. Overall, sage green was one of the safest color options for any room, including the bathroom. 
“Greens continue to be seen as a modern neutral; sage is calming and nature-inspired bringing that dose of versatility to the bedroom without feeling plain,” Emily Kantz, Color Marketing Manager &amp; Trendsight Team member at Sherwin-Williams, told Zillow. 
She said it’s all part of a trend to embrace color in favor of neutrality.
“Giving your home some personality by using a color that has depth is driving measurable return on investment,” Kantz added. “I’ve been seeing that a lot lately when it comes to design — playing it safe is riskier than experimenting with color and design.”
There were also plenty of paint colors that could cost money when it came to getting offers.
Ochre yellow was found to be one of the worst financial choices. Bold red bathrooms reportedly attracted offers that were $7,971 lower than if the room were white — the largest impact the study found for a single-room color choice, according to the report.&#8221; Blush pink bathrooms were a close second and resulted in offers that were $6,013 less.
The experts recommend painting your home whatever color you want while living there, then repainting it when it’s time to list to maximize profits. 
“If an ochre yellow kitchen brings you joy, embrace it!” Zillow’s home trends expert Amanda Pendleton said. “There will be some buyers who will love your yellow kitchen as much as you do. But getting top dollar for your home is all about appealing to the most potential buyers. So enjoy your ochre kitchen and when it’s time to sell, paint it charcoal gray or plum.”

As a member of Gen Z, I am often told my generation is a lost cause for conservatism — too cynical, too progressive, or just too far gone.
That assumption couldn’t be more wrong. Gen Z isn’t rejecting America; we’re demanding that it work again. And if conservatives are serious about reclaiming the soul of the nation, the path forward runs directly through the issues my generation lives with every day.
Gen Z came of age at the crossroads of stability and uncertainty. 
During President Trump’s first term, we witnessed a strong economy, interest rates that opened the door to homeownership, an end to forever wars, and a return to policies that prioritized the family.
Under President Biden, however, millions of young Americans graduated college and took entry-level jobs that barely covered their student loan payments, even as the cost of everything rose faster than their paychecks. They were told to follow the rules — go to college, take on loans, delay adulthood. Then, when those rules failed them, they were blamed.
What frustrates my peers isn’t tradition or responsibility; it’s a system that feels rigged against them. 
That’s precisely where conservatism, properly articulated, can meet the moment.
<h3>Homeownership</h3>
For Gen Z, homeownership feels less like a milestone and more like a fantasy. Sky-high rents that prevent us from putting money into savings, zoning restrictions that choke supply, and inflation driven by reckless federal spending have priced young people out of opportunity. 
Conservatives should call this what it is: a policy failure. Government rules make it harder to build homes, while bad monetary policy drains savings and pushes the dream of stability further out of reach for young families.
If we believe in ownership, stability, and opportunity, then we should lead on reforms that make it easier — not harder — for young Americans to buy homes and build wealth.
<h3>Student Debt</h3>
Then there’s student debt. Gen Z didn’t invent the student loan crisis; we inherited it.
Many borrowers were reckless, and they should repay what they owe. But recklessness was enabled by a federal loan system that treated teenagers as capable of signing six-figure contracts while shielding universities from the consequences of failure.
Subsidies have fueled tuition inflation and reduced institutional accountability, leaving students to bear the full cost of bad decisions — both theirs and the systems.
Conservatives should reject blanket loan “forgiveness” that shifts the burden to taxpayers, but we must also offer real solutions: ending the federal government’s role as a blank-check lender so private institutions once again have incentives to lend responsibly, expanding alternatives like apprenticeships and credentialing, and breaking the cartel between the federal government and higher education. Responsibility cuts both ways—and universities should finally be forced to bear some.
<h3>Building A Family </h3>
Most surprising to pundits — but obvious to anyone paying attention — is Gen Z’s renewed interest in traditional family values. After watching the loneliness, instability, and social breakdown of the last two decades, many in my generation are rediscovering what older generations once took for granted: marriage matters, family matters, and children are not obstacles to fulfillment but central to it. This isn’t nostalgia; it’s realism. Gen Z wants meaning, not just mobility. We want strong relationships, safe neighborhoods, and a culture that doesn’t sneer at commitment.
Conservatives should lean into this—not with lectures, but with policies that make it possible to start and raise a family. That means an economy where a young family has the chance to create a home and build a foundation for the future, a tax code that doesn’t treat marriage like a liability, and leaders who value faith, responsibility, and strong bonds across generations. When conservatives defend the family, we aren’t clinging to the past — we’re offering a future Gen Z actually wants.
The fight for America’s soul isn’t about writing off an entire generation. It’s about proving that our ideas can meet real needs in real lives. Gen Z is open, skeptical, and looking for answers. If conservatives are honest about the economic realities we’re dealing with and defend the institutions that make life meaningful, my generation won’t just listen — we’ll lead.

Former vice president and failed presidential hopeful Kamala Harris may have just proved she doesn’t believe her own rhetoric.
According to multiple reports, Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, recently purchased an $8.15 million home in Point Dume, an exclusive oceanside neighborhood in Malibu. The purchase is raising eyebrows after Harris spent years as a senator and vice president warning the public about climate change and coastline erosion.
The 4,000-square-foot property includes four bedrooms and six bathrooms situated on about three-quarters of an acre, per <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/01/13/real-estate/kamala-harris-buys-8m-mansion-in-malibus-celeb-packed-pt-dume/">the New York Post</a>. One real estate listing describes the home as “perched in a prime coastal location” with “breathtaking ocean views.” The house is located near Point Dume State Beach, a ritzy area that was identified as having a high risk for flooding and erosion.
A climate model previously endorsed by the Biden-Harris administration projected that Point Dume State Beach <a href="https://coast.noaa.gov/slr/#/layer/slr/1/-13224965.709481182/4029006.643276096/16.000/satellite/none/0.8/2050/interHigh/noAccretion/NOS_Minor">could suffer significant damage</a> from rising sea levels. That model was discontinued in June 2025 under the Trump administration, as noted by The Free Beacon. Also, a 2023 Interior Department study <a href="https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2022JF006936">concluded</a> that up to 75 percent of California’s beaches could be eroded by the year 2100.
The Point Dume area also suffered significant damage during the 2018 Woolsey Fire and some damage during the 2025 Palisades Fire.
Harris has been sounding the alarm on climate change for years. “Glaciers are melting. Sea levels are rising. Climate change is real and we must act before it&#8217;s too late. That’s why I support a Green New Deal,” she tweeted in 2019. The same year, Harris sponsored the <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/1730">Living Shorelines Act</a>, which called for $50 million annually in federal funding to help address rising sea levels.
While serving as vice president, Harris was named the administration’s lead spokeswoman for the Climate-Ready Coasts initiative, a multibillion-dollar federal program. In April 2023, she announced $562 million in grants to benefit communities “on the front lines of the climate crisis.”
&#8220;The climate crisis represents a profound threat &#8212; as we all know &#8212; to our nation and to the world,” she said during a <a href="https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2023/04/21/vice-president-kamala-harris-climate-change-florida-sargassum/6561682032174/#">speech</a> at the University of Miami, claiming that &#8220;we still have time to make a difference.&#8221;
The home reportedly purchased by Harris and Emhoff includes features that the Biden-Harris administration found problematic, including a gas stove and fireplace, plus a tankless water heater. While serving as vice president, Harris advocated for <a href="https://docs.house.gov/meetings/GO/GO05/20230718/116246/HHRG-118-GO05-Transcript-20230718.pdf">energy efficiency regulations</a> that would have restricted certain gas stoves and tankless water heater models.
Point Dume is one of Malibu’s most exclusive neighborhoods, known for its privacy and gated access to Little Dume Beach. The area has attracted celebrities and tech moguls including Sean Penn, Gerard Butler, and Julia Roberts, as the New York Post noted.

A Florida real estate agent says the rumors are true: wealthy New Yorkers are already fleeing the city in droves following the election of Zohran Mamdani to the office of mayor on Tuesday.
Kourtney Pulitzer, a Sotheby&#8217;s International Realty agent based in Palm Beach, Florida, described the phenomenon on her TikTok.
“I’m not gonna lie, I did not think exactly this was going to happen – I thought this guy was gonna win in New York City. I thought that our market was going to pick up. But I didn’t think it was going to happen the next morning,” Pulitzer said in the clip.

&#8220;Even this morning, I’ve gotten inbound calls of businesses looking to leave New York to come to our low-tax, safe, vibrant community,&#8221; Singer <a href="https://www.wpbf.com/article/new-yorkers-move-florida-mayor-election-zohran-mamdani/69266997">said</a>.
Stuart Elliot, editor in chief and CEO of The Real Deal, a national real estate publication, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/05/us/south-florida-real-estate-mamdani.html">told</a> NYT that the topic was “all that people are talking about” at a forum event Wednesday morning.
Developer Isaac Toledano of Miami-based BH Group <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/media/nyc-election-fears-drive-100m-florida-real-estate-surge-nervous-new-yorkers-flee-south">told</a> Fox News Digital that the trend started before Mamdani won and is expected to continue.
&#8220;If this thing is going to happen and we’re going to see this big wave of New Yorkers and companies relocating, across our portfolio we have a lot of branded residences, luxury condos, mixed-use projects. … We welcome our friends and investors and buyers from New York to come to Florida,&#8221; he told the outlet, echoing what others have said about finances and safety being the main draws.
&#8220;We offer stability, the freedom to grow,&#8221; he added. &#8220;The fact that you can walk at night with [an] expensive watch on your hand, driving an expensive car, go to a restaurant, walk on the street, have a coffee at 11 o&#8217;clock at night and nobody will disturb you. … The law is very strong here. People feel safe.&#8221;

The legacy coffee brand Maxwell House is changing their name for the first time in 133 years to reflect the changing landscape of homeownership, they just <a href="https://news.kraftheinzcompany.com/press-releases-details/2025/For-the-First-Time-in-133-Years-Maxwell-House-Rebrands-as-Maxwell-Apartment/default.aspx">announced</a>.
The coffee retailer is rebranding to Maxwell Apartment, they said, for a 12 month ‘lease’ offer.
A press release detailing that change mentioned that almost one third of Americans are renting smaller apartments rather than purchasing full sized homes. 
“Two-thirds of American adults drink coffee every day, which can add up quickly, especially these days,” Holly Ramsden, Head of Coffee, North America at the Kraft Heinz Company, said in a statement. 
“Maxwell House believes no one should have to go without great tasting coffee and Maxwell Apartment delivers the same delicious taste people know and love, at a value that celebrates all our fans are doing to make smart choices in their lives.”
The announcement further stated that the brand would continue selling “great tasting, affordable coffee” because we’re living during “a time where value matters now more than ever.”
This promotion is being touted as a way for consumers to stock up on coffee and save money on cafe runs, which they claim could lead to $1,000 in savings per year. 
Social media users mocked the marketing ploy, pointing out how the brand was <a href="https://tnmuseum.org/junior-curators/posts/maxwell-house-coffee-and-nashville">named after</a> the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville where it first gained popularity, not after an actual residence. 
“I can’t believe this isn’t a [Babylon Bee] article,&#8221; one person <a href="https://x.com/AfterDinnerCo/status/1973521682943058384">wrote</a> on X, echoing what many others were saying. 
Others pointed out that this is the latest in a string of questionable marketing decisions from major brands, including Cracker Barrel’s major misstep over the summer. 
“NOW we know where the marketing team that gave us the new logo and decor for Cracker Barrel went,” one person <a href="https://x.com/JM4LISD/status/1973474700627194331">observed</a>.
“‘Hey Americans! We know most of you can&#8217;t afford homes, so we thought our coffee should be rebranded to reflect your misfortune!’ Like salt in a wound,” another comment <a href="https://x.com/MightySpoonman/status/1973522856098275786">said</a>.

Sales of previously owned homes dropped more than expected in June, <a href="https://www.nar.realtor/newsroom/nar-existing-home-sales-report-shows-2-7-decrease-in-june">according</a> to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
Home sales fell 2.7% from May, lower than the 0.7% drop predicted by analysts, CNBC News reported. Sales fell to a seasonally adjusted rate of 3.93 million. There was no year-over-year change in home sales.
&#8220;High mortgage rates are causing home sales to remain stuck at cyclical lows,&#8221; NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun said in a statement. &#8220;If the average mortgage rates were to decline to 6%, our scenario analysis suggests an additional 160,000 renters becoming first-time homeowners and elevated sales activity from existing homeowners.&#8221;
The drop in home sales comes as President Donald Trump continues pushing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to lower interest rates.
&#8220;Housing in our Country is lagging because Jerome &#8216;Too Late&#8217; Powell refused to lower Interest Rates,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114902704048179740">posted</a> on Truth Social. &#8220;Families are being hurt because Interest Rates are too high, and even our Country is having to pay a higher Rate than it should be because of &#8216;Too Late.&#8217; Our Rate should be three points lower than they are, saving us $1 Trillion per year (as a country). This stubborn guy at the Fed just doesn&#8217;t get it — Never did, and never will. The Board should act, but they don&#8217;t have the Courage to do so!&#8221;
Meanwhile, median existing-home prices reached a record high of $435,300, &#8220;the 24th consecutive month of year-over-year price increases,&#8221; according to Yun.
&#8220;Multiple years of undersupply are driving the record high home price,&#8221; Yun continued. &#8220;Home construction continues to lag population growth. This is holding back first-time home buyers from entering the market. More supply is needed to increase the share of first-time homebuyers in the coming years even though some markets appear to have a temporary oversupply at the moment.&#8221;
The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 6.75% as of July 17, the NAR report said. The rate marks an increase from 6.72% the previous week but a decrease from 6.77% the previous year.
&#8220;Expanding participation in the housing market will increase the mobility of the workforce and drive economic growth,&#8221; Yun said. &#8220;If mortgage rates decrease in the second half of this year, expect home sales to increase across the country due to strong income growth, healthy inventory, and a record-high number of jobs.&#8221;
The Federal Reserve has resisted lowering interest rates, citing concerns that Trump&#8217;s tariff policies will increase inflation. Inflation <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inflation-creeps-up-as-trump-prepares-major-tariff-rollout">rose</a> 2.7% year-over-year in June, slightly more than expected. The Fed is reportedly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-drafted-letter-to-fire-fed-reserve-chair-but-says-were-not-planning-on-doing-it?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Drafted+Letter+To+Fire+Fed+Reserve+Chair%2C+But+Says+%E2%80%98We%E2%80%99re+Not+Planning+On+Doing+It%E2%80%99">not considering</a> lowering interest rates at its July meeting.

Paul Simon’s daughter, Lulu Simon, is furious that actor Richard Gere decided to sell her childhood home in New Canaan, Connecticut, to developers, which she says goes against a promise he made when he purchased the property.
Lulu, 30, also a singer, is the daughter of the legendary Simon &amp; Garfunkel singer/songwriter and his wife, Edie Brickell. She discussed the situation on her Instagram stories earlier this week, per <a href="https://people.com/richard-gere-house-paul-simon-daughter-lulu-childhood-home-demolish-developer-11769150">People</a>.
Gere purchased the property in 2022 for $10.8 million and then sold it for $10.75 million in October 2024, when he moved to Spain. It’s now being torn down to make way for nine new homes. 
“Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!” Lulu wrote in the caption text. The post also included a news article about the house’s fate.
She continued, “He bought my childhood home. Promised he would take care of the land as [a] condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in &amp; just sold it to a developer as 9 separate plots :).”
“Hate! Him!” Lulu added in the caption.
A second Instagram Story showed a photo of Gere surrounded by images of cats and dogs. “I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness,” that post caption said. 
Lulu also posted a meme of a frog that included the caption, “Time will put your enemies in the ground.”
According to <a href="https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/82-Brookwood-Ln_New-Canaan_CT_06840_M48774-74391">Realtor.com</a>, the house was built in 1938 and sits on more than 31 acres. It has six bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. 
Simon and Brickell reportedly purchased the home for $16.5 million in 2002, per <a href="https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/real-estate/g27257129/paul-simon-connecticut-home/">Town &amp; Country</a>. In 2019, the couple attempted to sell the property for $13.9 million, but Gere acquired it in 2022 after multiple price adjustments.

The salvage company Hudson Valley House Parts has reportedly started preserving items from the home prior to its demolition. French doors, window casings, a bluestone pond edge, and other items are listed for sale on the <a href="https://www.hvhouseparts.com/shop/new-canaan/Q3DYGPPJJ46QKUZN4AYEHHJ7">website</a> under the project name “New Canaan.”

The FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office in Albany, New York, have reportedly begun a formal criminal investigation into the real estate and mortgage transactions of New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James.
Last month, William J. Pulte, director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency, sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging that James might have “falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms.” He said James had “potentially included … falsifying residence status for a Norfolk, Virginia-based home in order to secure a lower mortgage rate and … misrepresenting property descriptions to meet stringent requirements for government backed loans and government assistance.” He pointed out, “Primary residence mortgages receive more favorable loan terms, including lower interest rates, than secondary residence mortgages.”
Two weeks ago, James’ attorney, Abbe Lowell, wrote a <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25913822-nyag-james-letter-to-ag-bondi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Bondi, stating, “I write to address the latest act of improper political retribution—this time directed at Ms. James—publicly instigated and endorsed by President Trump&#8230;. This so-called ‘Criminal Referral,’ which recycles long-disproven allegations and is ‘[b]ased on media reports’ lacks any credible foundation.”
“Mr. Trump has singled out Attorney General James dating back to her campaign in 2018, and ever more so during and after the trial and verdict in New York in which Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization were found liable for financial fraud and assessed a $454 million judgment,” Lowell claimed.
Lowell referred to what he called “baseless allegations,” saying:

In 1983, James, then a recent college graduate, bought a Queens residence with her father, with some documents listing her as his “wife.’
“He asked his daughter (then a few years out of school) to help by allowing him to add her name to the mortgage application,” Lowell argued. “Mr. James filled out the mortgage material (wherein he described their relationship as being ‘spouses’) and purchased the home without his daughter’s involvement.”
“However, James, then 24 and a college graduate, signed the notarized mortgage, along with her father, on one of the document’s three pages that listed her as his ‘wife,’” the Times-Union <a href="https://www.timesunion.com/capitol/article/fbi-opens-formal-investigation-ny-attorney-20316868.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. “One of those references to her being her father’s ‘wife’ was just below her signature. Lending experts consulted by the Times Union said that by listing themselves as husband and wife, the pair may have qualified for a loan — or received better borrowing terms — than had they not been considered a couple due to income requirements.”
James led a prosecutorial effort to investigate Trump’s business dealings, which ended with a judge ordering him, his two sons, and a Trump company official to pay more than $360 million.

Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders took a big step toward protecting her state from the Chinese Communist Party and other nefarious foreign agents.
She signed a bill demanding representatives acting on behalf of hostile foreign adversaries such as the People&#8217;s Republic of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea register publicly, disclose who bankrolls them, and spell out exactly what they are doing in Arkansas politics.
Although this foreign-agent registration is the first statute of its kind in the country, other legislatures should explore similar laws as a defense against hostile foreign actors and their agents covertly swaying policy or political activities at the state level.
Our country is facing a new kind of warfare waged through manipulation, money, and misinformation. Our adversaries are well-funded and coordinated, working relentlessly to sow division and destabilize our society. They’re attacking at the state and local level more and more, hiding behind layers of nonprofits and advocacy groups.
Take Students for Justice in Palestine, for example – a shadowy group that played a prominent role in riling up violent mobs on college campuses last year. This group and others like it (Within Our Lifetime, Jewish Voice for Peace, Palestinian Youth Movement, etc.) routinely accept secret money, raising concerns about potential support from hostile foreign actors.
Some of these organizations are not even registered as nonprofits, and alarmingly, many pro-Hamas groups have established local chapters on college campuses and receive funding from student activity fees.
The CCP perfected this playbook long ago. There are Confucius Institutes embedded on college campuses masquerading as language centers while disseminating the Party’s propaganda. Other groups such as Code Pink echo CCP talking points, attacking American energy policy and championing topics that align with China’s geopolitical objectives.
Research has shown that the CCP’s influence stretches far beyond college campuses. It targets state pension funds, critical infrastructure, farmland near military bases, and even municipal procurement of drones and surveillance tech. Every contract, endowment, or protest it bankrolls is another opportunity to steal American intellectual property, map supply chains, and erode public trust.
It’s no surprise the Federal Bureau of Investigation has labeled the Chinese Communist government a “grave threat to the economic well-being and democratic values of the United States,” and national security agencies from some of our top allies have warned the CCP is engaging in the most “sophisticated theft of intellectual property and expertise in human history.&#8221;
Arkansas has taken the first step in combating this foreign interference. The law will shine a spotlight on every foreign‑funded front group operating in the state. Agents who fail to register face stiff penalties; those tied to hostile nations risk even higher fines.

The new law also strengthens campaign finance disclosure laws, exposing individuals and organizations seeking to undermine democratic values through covert influence operations. The law is singularly focused on hostile foreign actors; international businesses and lobbyists representing allied nations are unaffected.
It is encouraging that this effort is also a part of a larger “Communist China Defense” suite of bills from Governor Sanders, with proposals to divest state resources from China and ban land purchases near critical infrastructure.
These measures are a timely reminder that safeguarding our communities begins in the statehouse, not just in Washington. Other legislatures should move quickly to adopt similar protections and fortify America’s democracy and sovereignty against those determined to erode them.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ben-affleck">Ben Affleck</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jennifer-lopez">Jennifer Lopez</a>’s mansion in Beverly Hills hit the market on Thursday amid rumors that the couple is experiencing marital difficulties.
The 38,000-square foot, 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom property was <a href="https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2571-Wallingford-Dr-Beverly-Hills-CA-90210/20532066_zpid/">listed</a> for $68 million several weeks after sources leaked that the sale was imminent. Affleck and Lopez purchased the home in 2022 for $60 million.
The listing describes the home as “[r]ecently renovated with the highest level of quality” and as a “newly rebuilt and expanded masterpiece” situated on five acres, all locked behind double gates. The home is also said to have a separate 5,000-square-foot guest penthouse, caretaker house, and two-bedroom guardhouse, along with a 12-car garage and parking for 80 vehicles. 
This estate also features an indoor sports complex with basketball and pickleball courts, a fully equipped gym, a boxing ring, a sports lounge, a zero-edge pool, and a bar. 
Affleck and Lopez wed in July 2022. The former &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">Gigli</a>&#8221; costars began dating twenty years earlier and were engaged by November 2002. The couple officially split in January 2004 but rekindled their relationship in July 2021.
“It’s been such a journey. The thing that I think I’ve been wondering about my whole life is, like, is love real? Does true love exist?” Lopez told <a href="https://www.glamour.com/story/jennifer-lopez-calls-moving-in-with-her-and-ben-afflecks-kids-an-emotional-transition">Today</a> in January 2023. “It’s two people kind of coming together and saying, you know, ‘I’m gonna be here no matter what. And we’re gonna get through it together.’”
Rumors of marital issues started in May when TMZ broke the news that the two were living apart. Entertainment Tonight <a href="https://www.etonline.com/jennifer-lopez-and-ben-affleck-taking-a-second-to-figure-things-out-amid-tension-in-marriage-source">reported</a> that a source claimed they were “staying in separate homes and the tension has been high.&#8221;
Neither Affleck nor Lopez has commented publicly on the alleged split. Both have been spotted in recent months together and apart, and on different occasions either wearing or not wearing their wedding rings. Lopez canceled the rest of her “This is Me… Live” tour on May 31, saying she was &#8220;taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.&#8221;
&#8220;I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down,” she said at the time. “Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…&#8221;

Not that it needs saying, but the economy is still a mess. Inflation is high, the value of a dollar isn&#8217;t what it used to be, and interest rates are insane. At the same time, most salaries are not increasing, the job market is terrible, and people are struggling to find work. This combination makes it seem as though it’s not at all possible to buy a home. But is it actually impossible?
Boomers often look at young people and say, “Well, interest rates were even higher in my day, and I still managed to buy a home.” The difference is, salaries increased along with the prices of homes. In 2024, that has not happened. As a result, young people are priced out of the market, especially if they are living in metropolitan areas. However, I believe there is a solution to this bad combination of economic woes.
Conversations about starter homes go viral on X all the time. All it takes is one person tweeting something like this, judging people for “skipping over starter homes” and buying houses that are too expensive, contributing to their own financial demise.

To be fair, he’s correct. Expectations should be in check &#8211; based on where you live and what your salary is. But I do not think this is why people are failing financially, nor do I think he has any idea how much a starter home in 2024 actually is. In most relatively metropolitan areas where people are working and commuting to and from, starter homes start at around $300,000. The replies argued as much:

Now, we have probably all heard the “stop buying avocado toast” argument. When I was in college, my mom would tell me that if I wanted to buy a house someday, I couldn’t spend all my money on Starbucks. I have a love-hate relationship with this statement. On the “love” side, it is true smaller purchases add up. Spending $50 a day on random things here and there ends up being $18,000 at the end of the year. However, on the “hate” side, I think these types of statements trivialize the actual problem at stake, which is that low salaries, high interest rates, and high prices all around make it near impossible to save for a down payment or be able to make a mortgage payment.
Another solution people commonly pose is to live in the middle of nowhere, so you can buy a five-bedroom house for $200,000. While this is true in some parts of the country, many people cannot make this proposed solution work logistically. Although they might be able to afford the house, they might not be able to pull off living in the middle of nowhere because there are no job opportunities, plus schools and grocery stores are 45 minutes away. So, this suggestion just ends up being counterproductive and unhelpful, which some tweets, like this one, are quick to point out:

The issue of not being able to afford a house is not just relegated to Gen Z. Wall Street Silver went so far as to question if we even have a middle class, tweeting that “homeownership is no longer a staple of the middle-class American Dream.”

This should not be the case. People should not just shrug it off, saying, “Oh, well, that’s just life in 2024.” And people should not be stuck in this cycle. So, what is the solution? First, we need to vote accordingly. But until we can do that and until circumstances hopefully change, there are steps you can take. This is not a hopeless situation if you truly want to buy a home.
In Nashville, for example, there are very few homes for sale at or around $300,000, and the ones that are at that price point are not in the safest of areas and they would require a fair amount of renovating. So while you might save money on a down payment, you would spend a pretty penny renovating the entire house. Plus, these homes aren’t even in Nashville proper. You would still be looking at a 20- to 30-minute commute.
That means, if you want a house in Nashville, you have to change your expectations. Since you would already be driving at least 20 minutes from an unsafe, not move-in ready home if you bought at $300,000, could you, instead, add an extra 10 minutes to that drive? If you want to own a home, are you willing to sacrifice a shorter drive for a longer one? If so, you could afford a starter home that is clean, move-in ready, and in a safe area.

I know this is possible because I know people who have done it — and I am one of them. The farm my husband and I just bought would have never been in our budget had we lived within 20 minutes of work. So, I spend two hours in the car every single day because that is the house I want to go home to, it is the lifestyle I want to have, and it is the place I want to raise our future children. My producer and her husband similarly worked through this decision a couple months ago, and they bought the cutest historical home outside Nashville where they are actually saving on their mortgage, compared to the rent they had been paying. Which is rare in 2024.
All of this to say, buying an affordable home is possible. All the posts and articles that claim the American Dream of owning a home is completely dead just aren’t true. It might be harder, but it is still possible.
You can buy a house, but you must figure out what your priorities are. If you are willing to make some sacrifices, like driving longer to work, it’s entirely possible. If, however, you don’t want to commute, that is ok, and while the market is truly terrible, renting can still be a mostly affordable option.
The point is, you have to decide what you value and what is most important to you. You must choose where you are going to put your money. That may be different than everyone else around you — and that is ok.
For plenty of people, buying a home isn’t the most important next move and they choose to prioritize other things. For example, after college, my husband moved to New York City for five years where he made incredible connections and created an invaluable network for his career. Instead of buying a house at 23 with a stupidly low interest rate, he chose to move and the return on his career investment was significant. But still, he knew NYC was not where he wanted to be long term, so when those five years lapsed, he reprioritized, moved to Nashville, bought a starter home, met me, and the rest is history.
Now, I do not give these examples to trivialize this problem because there is no getting around the fact the American middle class is disappearing, which has never been the case before. I share these anecdotes to hopefully provide a feeling of empowerment and a reality that there are other options. Life is not as black and white as it may seem on X.
I wish everyone could just buy whatever house they want, but that’s not how the world works. It’s true that life isn’t fair and it never has been. But if you are honest with yourself about what you really value, you’ll be able to prioritize to make life more of what you want. Then, all it takes is some creative, unconventional thinking in determining and realizing there is a way to your goals.
