Eight million people just took to the streets to stop a king who does not exist.
They say they are protesting tyranny. But if you look at who&#8217;s actually holding the megaphone — and more importantly, who&#8217;s signing the checks — this grassroots movement starts looking a lot less grassroots and a lot more like a sophisticated and coordinated operation by Hollywood elites and radical activists having public meltdowns demanding labor militancy. 
The real story isn&#8217;t the useful idiots on the streets. It&#8217;s the apparent $3 billion web of funding tied to a tech tycoon living in Shanghai and a wedding-turned-mysterious summit in Jamaica. 
Who are these shadowy figures funding the chaos? Why are America&#8217;s enemies cheering from the sidelines?
These people are not turning out because they suddenly oppose centralized government. You think Democrats are anti-centralized government? Against a bigger federal government run by the executive branch?
No way.

Presidents Obama and Biden radically expanded the power of the executive branch. Funny, there were no protests then.
They&#8217;re also not turning out in the streets because they oppose an intervention such as what&#8217;s going on in Iran or because they oppose tyrants. They were fine with Barack Obama&#8217;s interventions in Libya, Syria, and in the drone wars. They were totally fine with Joe Biden&#8217;s funding of the war in Ukraine.
They&#8217;re not anti-tyranny, the “No Kings” people; they&#8217;re perfectly pro-tyranny in foreign countries, and they tolerate their friends’ tyranny at home.
We all know the real reason: A lot of people hate President Trump, and they hate the American system.
How do they get this many people organized?
A lot of money. Where exactly is that money coming from?

So there’s a communist living in China who is funneling hundreds of millions of dollars into various protest groups.

Apparently, Singham has pushed some $278 million into organizations that sow discord in the United States.
None of these protests are innocent. They are not happening by accident. It takes an awful lot of money to make this magic happen.
Singham said in 2025: “If we want to therefore have a new world order that is based on multilateralism that President XI and CPC and China have proposed, we have to undo the ideological damage that has been done by the narrative of World War II. &#8230; China has a very important role, and we in this forum have a very important role, that to envision a new multi-polarity order requires that, quite frankly, this deconstruction or restoration, a history of what really happened.”
He said there should be a multipolar world order with China and Russia as leading forces and that we need to rewrite the history of World War II in order to achieve this new world order.
Outside forces are trying to destroy America — and President Trump.
And it’s our job to make sure that does not happen.

As numerous &#8220;No Kings&#8221; rallies popped up across the United States, several signs and costumes prompted immediate ridicule — but perhaps none so much as the woman from Durham, North Carolina, who dressed in full 18th century garb and called on protesters to &#8220;give them 1789 France.&#8221;
The woman, apparently dressed as beheaded French aristocrat Marie Antoinette, wore a blonde wig styled in the traditional pouf and fake blood dripped over her pearl necklace. The only two things out of place were her sunglasses and the sign she held, which read, &#8220;They want 1939 Germany. Let&#8217;s give them 1789 France.&#8221;

And while her point was clearly a call to get rid of what she perceived as the &#8220;aristocracy&#8221; in the United States, several critics noted the irony of her invoking the French Revolution specifically. While the most famous public executions during that period were of high profile individuals like Antoinette and even King Louis XVI in 1793, the majority of those who died under the guillotine were commoners who dared to voice opposition to the revolutionaries. In addition, the revolution ultimately devolved into such chaos that the nation was already primed when Napoleon Bonaparte seized power in 1799 — and then returned to monarchy after Napoleon&#8217;s defeat some 15 years later.
In another ironic twist, recent <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/500-groups-3b-revenues-behind-nokings-protests-communist-call-revolution">reporting</a> from Fox News Digital indicated that the &#8220;No Kings&#8221; protests were bankrolled by a number of groups boasting a combined $3 billion in revenue — and by several communist and socialist groups who have been calling for &#8220;revolution&#8221; in the United States.
The lead organizers for protests in St. Paul, Minnesota, for example, were reportedly promoted by Indivisible — a relatively well-known Democratic organization funded by billionaire George Soros.
Neville Roy Singham — an American communist living in China with ties to radical organization CodePink — was also connected several other groups that sent representatives to the &#8220;No Kings&#8221; protests as well. Among those organizations are the People’s Forum in New York, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the ANSWER Coalition, and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) responded after a large “No Kings” protest in downtown Los Angeles escalated Saturday, and demonstrators vandalized a federal building with threats against ICE agents, clashed with law enforcement, and sparked multiple arrests.
“If you threaten ICE, or their families, you WILL face the full force of federal law,” the response read. “Our courageous men and women face death threats, just like this, every day. Individuals making the threats will be held accountable.”
Earlier in the afternoon, Leftist radicals had vandalized a federal building in Los Angeles on Saturday, scrawling the message “Kill your local ICE agent” alongside two crosshairs as thousands flooded downtown for a “No Kings” protest.

The threatening graffiti came amid a day of demonstrations that drew tens of thousands into the city’s streets, with organizers estimating attendance as high as 50,000 at a rally held at Gloria Molina Grand Park outside City Hall. The Los Angeles Police Department <a href="https://x.com/LAPDCentral/status/2038046323090620455">placed</a> the city on tactical alert around 5:30 local time and issued a dispersal order, warning demonstrators to leave the area near Alameda Street or face arrest. When multiple individuals refused to comply, officers began taking people into <a href="https://x.com/LAPDCentral/status/2038058913934070205">custody</a> 30 minutes later.
Federal officials also reported violence directed at law enforcement. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli <a href="https://x.com/USAttyEssayli/status/2038064445990350958">said</a> federal agents had “started arresting those who assaulted our personnel at the Los Angeles courthouse,” warning that suspects who hurled projectiles at officers had been captured on video.

“To those who were smashing concrete blocks and throwing them at our officers, we have you on video,” Essayli said. “We will find you and arrest you too. You’ve been warned.”
The Department of Homeland Security wrote in a post on <a href="https://x.com/DHSgov/status/2038082883814936848">X</a> two federal officers were struck by cement blocks and required medical attention. Authorities confirmed that at least two individuals were arrested on felony charges for assaulting federal law enforcement.
Police eventually cleared most demonstrators from the area, lifting the tactical alert around 8 p.m.
Saturday’s protest marked the third major “No Kings” demonstration in recent months, with organizers framing the movement as a grassroots response to what they describe as authoritarian policies.
“A lot of people want to help, they just don’t know where to start,” organizer Emily Williams said ahead of the event. “No Kings is that starting point. It’s about community, about showing up for each other, and about turning concern into real action you can be part of.”
Local and national Republican leaders have sharply criticized the demonstrations. President Donald Trump previously dismissed the movement, saying he is “not a king,” while House Speaker Mike Johnson <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/10/no-kings-protest-mike-johnson-00602705">characterized</a> earlier protests as a “Hate America Rally,” linking them to Hamas and far-left terror groups.
City officials had anticipated potential disruptions. Crews installed gates along 101 Freeway ramps ahead of the march after previous protests saw demonstrators spill onto the highway, creating dangerous conditions for both pedestrians and drivers.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass struck a more supportive tone, calling the demonstrations “democracy in action”  on <a href="https://x.com/MayorOfLA/status/2037949533792219327">X</a>. “Peaceful protest is our constitutional right,” Bass said. “When people come together to make their voices heard, that is democracy in action.”
Despite those calls and Democrat party rhetoric of “mostly peaceful” protests, Saturday’s events, at least in Los Angeles, spilled into confrontation, culminating in assault and threats against federal agents and acts of vandalism at government property.

When hundreds of students across the country walked out of class last week to protest ICE, the scene felt uncomfortably familiar. The chants, the certainty, and the urgency to declare a side reflected a pattern my generation repeats during nearly every political moment: strong emotion paired with limited understanding. Watching it unfold as a high school student, the issue appeared larger than a single protest. The walkouts exposed an education system that failed to teach students how the government functions — or how federal law enforcement actually operates.
From Georgia to California, students are walking out of class demanding that ICE be “removed” from their communities. In practice, for many of my peers, these walkouts function less as political statements and more as an excuse to miss class. At Lakeside High School in Georgia — where many of the protest videos originated — approximately 1,500 of the school’s roughly 2,200 students participated in an organized walkout protesting ICE. That would suggest that more than half the student body is so politically engaged that they are willing to sacrifice instructional time for a policy cause — an assumption undermined by the fact that fewer than 40% of Americans ages 18-19 vote.
For the small minority of students who genuinely care, the protests offer an opportunity to join a cause they assume is morally righteous. For all participants, however, these walkouts rest on an incomplete — and often incorrect — understanding of what ICE actually does and who holds authority over immigration policy.
The collapse of civic education in K–12 schools has produced widespread confusion about how the federal government functions. Many students believe ICE writes immigration law rather than enforces statutes passed by Congress. Others assume a president can simply suspend laws at will, or that public outrage alone can override the legislative process and reshape federal policy.
What no one has taught my peers is that Congress — not ICE, and not the White House — writes immigration law. Every administration, including President Trump’s, is obligated to enforce the laws Congress passes.
This confusion among students is not a failure of intelligence. It reflects an education system that avoids political controversy at all costs. Teachers are warned not to “take sides,” administrators steer clear of any topic that might provoke backlash, and students grow up believing that discussing the law or governance is dangerous. Instead of learning how the government functions, students learn how to talk around it.
This silence shapes how my generation engages with politics. Only a few miles from my Long Island high school, Generation Z played a decisive role in electing a socialist mayor in America’s most capitalist city. Many of those voters were never taught about the historical consequences of socialism — the collapse of economies, the erosion of democratic institutions, and the human suffering that follows. Those lessons are treated as too political for classrooms. The result is a generation making political choices without understanding the ideas being supported.
Students are not avoiding dialogue because of apathy. They avoid it because schools have trained them to fear disagreement. When issues such as immigration, abortion, or Israel arise, classrooms go quiet — not from a lack of opinion, but from concern over social and academic consequences.
Before becoming a nationally syndicated columnist, I hesitated to speak openly in classrooms. I rewrote comments, withheld arguments, and waited for safer moments to share my views. Now, I voice those perspectives in front of millions of readers, fully aware of the consequences. But even with all the pushback, my openness has not only sharpened my passion for politics but produced an impact far greater than I ever anticipated.
The danger of silence becomes clear during moments like these walkouts. When students protest without understanding what they want to change or how change occurs, it reveals how unprepared they are for civic participation. Informed activism cannot exist without civic knowledge.
Restoring serious civic education remains the only path forward. Students should learn not only which policies exist, but why they exist. They should understand how Congress, the courts, and federal agencies interact. Schools should encourage substantive debate rather than discourage it. Avoiding discomfort leaves students unprepared for the responsibilities of citizenship — and for the world they are about to enter.

The Minneapolis City Council refused to renew the liquor licenses for two downtown hotels, the Canopy by Hilton and the Renaissance Hotel at the Depot, after a contentious debate over reports that the hotels may be housing ICE agents. 
The council voted to hold the licenses for another cycle, delaying a final decision until a future meeting after public comment. Earlier this week, city council member Aisha Chughtai argued that automatically renewing the licenses would go against public safety.
“These are two hotels that have contracts with the federal government that allows for housing of federal agents as they are coming in and while they are here during their stay,” she said. 
“Now, let’s talk about why a liquor license renewal is attached to ICE agents staying at a hotel. What we’re seeing happen in real time in hotels that have these types of contracts with the federal government is at night when agents come back from their like being out and about and you know beating people up and separating families and abducting people for fun all day. They drink heavily at the bar and have weapons on them … that is a like real danger to public safety in our community, and so necessitates us having further conversations to try to figure out how we can ensure greater public safety for the residents we serve.” 
During the discussion, council members asked city attorney Quinn O’Reilly to explain the council’s legal obligations regarding liquor license renewals. O’Reilly said the request for renewals was sent to the council for approval because city staff had determined both hotels were in compliance with all liquor licensing laws and regulations, making them eligible for renewal under existing rules. 
Following that explanation, several council members pushed back in favor of immediately renewing the licenses. 
Council member Warren said, “This just smells real discriminatory to me. I booked hotels, and they just asked me when I’m checking in, when I’m checking out, and how can I pay … our downtown business district has suffered enough disenfranchisement through all of the closing of buildings, buildings selling for pennies on the dollar. We don’t have time to be playing around in people’s faces with foolishness.” 
Council member Vetaw echoed Warren’s concerns, adding she did not understand why the council would not go ahead and renew the licenses that met legal requirements. 
Committee chair Aurin Chowdhury, who brought forward the motion, said extensive constituent outreach and concerns about worker and public safety drove the decision. “When there are hotels that are a part of our beloved hospitality community, putting them in danger, putting their workers in danger, I think that accountability is 100% warranted,” Chowdhury said. She added that by not immediately renewing the liquor license, the council is “nation-leading right now.” 
“It’s wild to me that multi-million, billion dollar corporations in hospitality can just like sit aside and not answer for it.”
Another council member warned that it wasn’t just the hotels that would suffer from this damage, but the very constituents the council works to protect. 
“Both hotels are now losing a lot of money … I just want you to remember how much they [hotels] have suffered. And really, it’s their employees because they’re laying people off. So the very people that we try to protect are getting laid off because of the damage and the problems that are befalling these hotels by the protesters.” 
When Chowdhury moved the council to a vote, five council members voted to renew the license, and nine council members did not vote for renewal. 
After the vote, council member Jamal Osman asked to add remarks to the record, defending the protesters. “I do want to thank the people that we’re calling agitators. They’re fighting for our people. They [are] out there in the cold, sniffing a gas, dealing with all kind of stuff. People die and lost their lives because of us. Because of us immigrants. Someone like me, someone like Chavez (another council member) &#8230; These people are our heroes.” 
The council will meet again on February 17th, after a public comment period, to revisit its decision.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum fired off a response on Monday, rebuking Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) after he compared United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to Nazis and claimed the next &#8220;Anne Frank&#8221; would be a little girl in Minnesota fearing deportation.
The statement was posted by the museum&#8217;s official X account — and while it acknowledged the difficult situation that has been unfolding in Minnesota, it also said that the clearly political motivation behind Walz&#8217;s comparison that suggested American federal agents were no different from the Nazis was a bridge too far.
&#8220;Anne Frank was targeted and murdered solely because she was Jewish. Leaders making false equivalencies to her experience for political purposes is never acceptable. Despite tensions in Minneapolis, exploiting the Holocaust is deeply offensive, especially as antisemitism surges,&#8221; the <a href="https://x.com/HolocaustMuseum/status/2015830385331216482">post read</a>.
Walz sparked <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tim-walz-compares-immigration-agents-to-nazis-says-minnesota-is-home-to-new-anne-frank-story">the backlash</a> during a recent press conference — following a fatal shooting involving Border Patrol agents — where he said, &#8220;We have got children in Minnesota hiding in their houses, afraid to go outside. Many of us grew up reading that story of Anne Frank. Somebody is going to write that children’s story about Minnesota.&#8221;
Walz, who has previously referred to federal immigration officials as “Trump’s modern-day Gestapo,&#8221; is not the only Democrat making such comparisons. During a Sunday appearance on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; newly-elected Governor Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) said ICE agents were like the communist Stasi — the East German secret police.
Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA), widely considered to be a leading contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, trashed federal law enforcement while in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum. Newsom took aim at Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino in particular, saying, &#8220;Greg Bovino is dressed up as if he literally went on eBay and purchased SS garb. Secret police … Private army … Masked men.&#8221;
Law enforcement officials and leaders within the Trump administration have pushed back, arguing that such rhetoric has been a driving force behind the exponential increase in assaults and death threats against federal law enforcement officers and their families.

Paul Allen, the play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Vikings, said Monday that he&#8217;s taking &#8220;a few days off&#8221; after a comment about &#8220;paid protesters&#8221; in Minnesota on his radio show last week.
&#8220;In conditions like this, do paid protesters get hazard pay? Those are the things that I&#8217;ve been thinking about this morning,&#8221; Allen said during his show on KFAN Friday.
The comments received backlash on social media, prompting an apology from Allen and his absence from the airwaves.
KFAN aired the apology from Allen on Monday during a commercial break ahead of the radio station&#8217;s &#8220;9 to Noon&#8221; show that Allen hosts, per <a href="https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/vikings-announcer-paul-allen-paid-protesters-comment.html">Awful Announcing</a>.
&#8220;I made a comment on-air Friday about protesters and the weather that was insensitive and poorly timed and I’m sorry,&#8221; he said.  &#8220;It was a misguided attempt at humor and while it was never meant with any ill-intent or political affront, I absolutely and wholeheartedly want to apologize to those who genuinely were hurt or offended by it. Nine-to-noon doesn’t formulate political opinions. We don’t bash or praise political discussions or even focus on political issues.&#8221;
Allen claimed his show always tries to focus on sports and strives to offer an escape from more serious issues for their listeners, the outlet added.
&#8220;My best was lacking Friday, and for that I am sorry. I am taking a few days off, wanted to express these thoughts and my sincere apology with you before I do,&#8221; Allen added.
The announcer made the comments about paid protesters while discussing the misconception of how trees can apparently &#8220;explode&#8221; in Minnesota due to frigid temperatures. Allen then went on to ask if the people who have been on the streets in Minnesota protesting ICE were getting hazard pay because of the conditions.

Allen&#8217;s comments were made before the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents.
Allen has handled play-by-play duties for the Minnesota Vikings since 2002. The station didn&#8217;t say when Allen would return to his normal hosting duties.

Former CNN host Don Lemon said on Sunday that he believed the Trump administration would &#8220;go around a judge&#8221; if necessary to prosecute him for disrupting a Minneapolis church service alongside radical protesters.
Speaking to fellow former CNN host Alisyn Camerota — now a special events anchor for Scripps News — Lemon repeatedly professed his innocence, claiming he was only observing the protest as a journalist. Lemon claimed that the Trump administration would prosecute him by any means necessary, even if it meant having to &#8220;retrofit&#8221; laws or circumventing a judge.

The appeals court, however, declined to force a lower court judge to sign arrest warrants.

Camerota described Lemon as &#8220;calm,&#8221; &#8220;resolute,&#8221; and &#8220;unapologetic&#8221; — and said that he truly believes his actions were protected under the First Amendment because he was acting solely as a journalist at the time.
Noting that one judge had already denied the Justice Department’s request to charge Lemon for his role in the protest — a protest that has resulted in three arrests thus far — Camerota asked Lemon what he thought might happen in the coming weeks.
“I’m not naive. I think they’re probably going to try again and again as they did with Tish James and Comey and everyone. If one doesn’t work, then they try something else and that fails, and they try something else and then they just don’t give up because they, you know, they want to save face, but I don’t know what’s next,” Lemon said. “I think what’s next is that I have to be in it for the long haul and to, you know, and just to be strong, as always, and keep calm and carry on.”
Lemon went on to say that he fully expected the Trump administration to step outside the law if that was the only way to get him, claiming that they were targeting him specifically because he was the “biggest name” involved.
“If there’s no law to fit, they will try to fit or retrofit something or go around a judge and just do it themselves. And it doesn’t matter and everything that they say pertains to protesters. I was not a protester. It’s very clear about that. If you look at all the evidence, I’m not a protester. And so I think Alisyn — not that I think I know — I was the biggest name. And so if they get a Don Lemon, woohoo, that’s a victory and also I’m the one who put the information out there.”
Lemon joined a large group of anti-ICE protesters who stormed Cities Church in Minneapolis last Sunday during a worship service because one of the church’s pastors is believed to be an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer. Three of the anti-ICE agitators who organized the church storming have been arrested by the FBI, including Black Lives Matter activist Nekima Levy Armstrong.

Joy Behar complained on Tuesday that it was time to &#8220;do something&#8221; about President Donald Trump — and she argued that just getting out in the streets to protest and even voting were not cutting it anymore.
Behar claimed that it was time for Trump to go, saying that Americans were just going to have to &#8220;step up&#8221; and make that happen, although she was largely unclear as to how that would work, logistically speaking.

&#8220;You know, the shrinks call that a narcissistic injury,&#8221; Behar continued. &#8220;And that is what will get us into World War III because his ego is involved. And the only thing that Americans can do, including us, I mean, we have a forum here and we speak out.&#8221;
Behar went on to claim that people loved &#8220;The View&#8221; for exactly that reason — and she called on the audience to call their representatives and say, &#8220;It&#8217;s time to do something about this guy, because he&#8217;s leading us into World War III.&#8221;
Sunny Hostin followed Behar, claiming that Trump was only after Greenland because he wanted the rare earth minerals — and that people should take him seriously when he postured about taking the island nation by force.
Behar interrupted then, claiming that she blamed Congress because she believed the president was not well and held them responsible for failing to do something about it. The 25th Amendment was mentioned, but as Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out, that would have to come from the president&#8217;s own cabinet.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey claims that what’s happening in his city, as anti-ICE protesters and rioters flood the streets following the Renee Good shooting incident, is all about “love.”
“It&#8217;s important to tell the whole country that this is not just about resistance here in Minneapolis, it&#8217;s about love. We are showing something far more powerful and consequential here, which is love,” Frey said on Sunday during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

Footage that appeared online on Saturday shows a man being harassed and assaulted for wearing an American flag hoodie.
One of the protesters then tells the man that if he removes his hoodie, he “won’t get hurt.”

Anti-Islam influencer Jake Lang, who was in Minneapolis on Saturday to “burn a Koran on the steps of Minneapolis city hall,” was violently attacked and beaten by a mob of anti-ICE rioters.
In multiple videos, blood can be seen on his head and neck as he’s chased and harassed.

The Pentagon has ordered about 1,500 active-duty soldiers in Alaska to prepare for a possible deployment to Minnesota, the site of large protests against the government&#8217;s deportation drive, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Sunday.
The army placed the units on prepare-to-deploy orders in case violence in the midwestern state escalates, the officials said, though it is not clear whether any of them will be sent.
President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to use the Insurrection Act to deploy military forces if officials in the state do not stop protesters from targeting immigration officials after a surge in Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
But if the troops are deployed, it is unclear whether the Trump administration would invoke the Insurrection Act. Even without invoking the act, a president can deploy active-duty forces for certain domestic purposes such as protecting federal property, which Trump cited as a justification for sending Marines to Los Angeles last year.
In addition to the active-duty forces, the Pentagon could also attempt to deploy newly created National Guard rapid-response forces for civil disturbances.
The Pentagon and the White House did not immediately respond to requests from Reuters for comment on the order, which was first reported by ABC News.
&#8220;If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT,&#8221; Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
The soldiers subject to deployment specialize in cold-weather operations and are assigned to two U.S. Army infantry battalions under the 11th Airborne Division, which is based in Alaska, the officials said.
Confrontations between residents and federal officers have become increasingly tense in Minneapolis, Minnesota&#8217;s most-populous city, after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good.
Trump, a Republican, has sent nearly 3,000 federal agents from ICE and Border Patrol to Minneapolis and neighboring St. Paul since early last week, as part of a wave of interventions, mostly to cities run by Democratic politicians.
He has said troop deployments in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Memphis and Portland, Oregon, are necessary to fight crime and protect federal property and personnel from protesters. But this month he said he was removing the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, which have faced legal setbacks and challenges.
Local leaders have accused the president of federal overreach and of exaggerating isolated episodes of violence to justify sending in troops.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, against whom the Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation, has mobilized the state&#8217;s National Guard to support local law enforcement and emergency management agencies, the state Department of Public Safety posted on X on Saturday.
Trump has repeatedly invoked a scandal around the theft of federal funds intended for social-welfare programs in Minnesota as a rationale for sending in immigration agents. The president and administration officials have singled out the state&#8217;s community of Somali immigrants.
The Insurrection Act is a federal law that gives the president the power to deploy the military or federalize National Guard troops inside the U.S. to quell domestic uprisings.

At least 5,000 people have been killed in protests in Iran, including about 500 security personnel, an Iranian official in the region said on Sunday, citing verified figures and accusing &#8220;terrorists and armed rioters&#8221; of killing &#8220;innocent Iranians.&#8221;
Nationwide protests erupted on December 28 over economic hardship and swelled over two weeks into widespread demonstrations calling for the end of clerical rule &#8211; resulting in the deadliest unrest since Iran&#8217;s 1979 Islamic revolution.
U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to intervene if protesters continued to be killed on the streets or were executed. In a social media post on Friday, he thanked Tehran&#8217;s leaders, saying they had called off scheduled executions of 800 people.
A day later, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a public speech branded Trump a &#8220;criminal&#8221; for the casualties he inflicted on Iran by supporting protesters.
&#8220;We will not drag the country into war, but we will not let domestic or international criminals go unpunished,&#8221; Khamenei said, acknowledging &#8220;several thousand deaths&#8221; that he blamed on &#8220;terrorists and rioters&#8221; linked to the U.S. and Israel.
Iran&#8217;s judiciary indicated that executions may go ahead.
&#8220;A series of actions have been identified as Mohareb, which is among the most severe Islamic punishments,&#8221; Iranian judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir told a press conference on Sunday.
Mohareb, an Islamic legal term meaning to wage war against God, is punishable by death under Iranian law.
Trump said in an interview with Politico on Saturday: &#8220;it&#8217;s time to look for new leadership in Iran.&#8221;
U.S.-based rights group HRANA said on Saturday the death toll had reached 3,308, with another 4,382 cases under review. It said it had confirmed more than 24,000 arrests.
The Iranian official said the verified death toll was unlikely to &#8220;increase sharply,&#8221; adding &#8220;Israel and armed groups abroad&#8221; had supported and equipped those taking to the streets.
The clerical establishment regularly blames unrest on foreign enemies, including the U.S. and Israel, an arch foe of the Islamic Republic which launched military strikes in June.
The violent crackdown appears to have broadly quelled protests, according to residents and state media.
One resident in Tehran said he had witnessed riot police directly shooting at a group of protesters, who were mostly young men and women. Videos circulating on social media, some of which have been verified by Reuters, have shown security forces violently cracking down on demonstrations across the country.
The Iranian official, who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the issue, also said some of the heaviest clashes and highest number of deaths were in the Iranian Kurdish areas in the country&#8217;s northwest.
Kurdish separatists have been active there and flare-ups have been among the most violent in past periods of unrest.
Three sources told Reuters on January 14 that armed Kurdish separatist groups sought to cross the border into Iran from Iraq in a sign of foreign entities potentially seeking to take advantage of instability.
&#8220;I am against this regime and have taken part in protests, but I witnessed some armed individuals disguised as protesters shooting at civilians. They were not ordinary protesters, they carried guns and knives,&#8221; an Iranian in a northwestern town told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
The Norway-based Iranian Kurdish rights group Hengaw has said some of the heaviest clashes during protests that erupted in late December were in Kurdish areas in the northwest.
Getting information out of Iran has been complicated by internet blackouts, which were partly lifted for a few hours early on Saturday. But internet monitoring group NetBlocks said the blackout seemed to have later been reimposed.
Faizan Ali, a 40-year-old medical doctor from Lahore, said he had to cut short his trip to Iran to visit his Iranian wife in the central city of Isfahan as &#8220;there was no internet or communication with my family in Pakistan.&#8221;
&#8220;I saw a violent mob burning buildings, banks and cars. I also witnessed an individual stab a passer-by,&#8221; he told Reuters upon his arrival back in Lahore.
