Multiple large corporations are pumping the brakes on their ultra-woke diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives as Americans are sending them a strong message: they want quality products over political stunts. 
It’s good to see that some companies are finally recognizing the disastrous effect of their downright discriminatory practices. 
As first revealed by conservative activist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pure-lunacy-robby-starbuck-on-exposing-dei-in-corporate-america">Robby Starbuck</a> on X, Ford, Harley-Davidson, Lowe’s, Tractor Supply, Molson Coors, and Jack Daniel’s distiller Brown-Forman have all recently pulled back on DEI and LGBT hiring initiatives. Some of these companies announced changes after Starbuck emailed corporate offices, asking about their woke policies. 
Late last month, Lowe’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lowes-cuts-ties-with-leftist-activist-group-scales-back-dei-initiatives">told</a> its employees that it would no longer fund LGBT “Pride” events or participate in the corporate equality index, which is run by the leftist Human Rights Council (HRC). In a memo, Lowe’s cited the Supreme Court ruling affirmative action admission practices at universities unconstitutional. 
“Like many other companies, in July 2023 after the Supreme Court’s decision in the Harvard/UNC cases, we began reviewing our diversity and inclusion programs to ensure that they are lawful and aligned with our commitment to include everyone in the incredible opportunities at Lowe’s and ensure that no one is excluded,” the company wrote.
Harley-Davidson similarly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harley-davidson-becomes-latest-company-to-back-away-from-dei-policies">said</a> last month, “It is critical to our business that we hire and retain the best talent and that all employees feel welcome. That said, we have not operated a DEI function since April 2024, and we do not have a DEI function today. We do not have hiring quotas and we no longer have supplier diversity goals.”
Ford also <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/ford-coors-gay-rights-index-dei-04c4ff94?mod=hp_lead_pos1">announced</a> that it would no longer send workplace data to the HRC, which pushes companies to hire more LGBT-identifying people. The political activists over at the HRC are, of course, beside themselves. How could these companies dare defy the Left’s agenda? Well, as has been true throughout the history of capitalism, money talks.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jojo-siwa">JoJo Siwa</a> berated the crowd at a New York City Pride concert over the weekend when some of the attendees started heckling her.
The 21-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">recording artist</a> was <a href="https://x.com/CL0SEASTRXNGERS/status/1807242749516644563">captured on video</a> stopping her set to curse at the culprits. “Who the living f*** just booed me? Where the f*** did that come from? Which one of you? Which one of you?&#8221; Siwa yelled. She then took a handmade sign from fans in the audience before addressing the people booing again.
&#8220;Respectfully, f*** you!&#8221; she said. 
Shortly after her tirade, Siwa grabbed a bouquet of flowers thrown on the stage and said, “Aww, this is sweet.” She plucked a flower from the bundle, placed it into her shorts, and made a lewd gesture by grabbing her crotch and sticking out her tongue.
&#8220;F*** the booers, somebody just chucked a bra at me!&#8221; the former “Dance Moms” reality star said.
The scene was captured on video and circulated on X. The person posting wrote across the video, “I cannot stop thinking about the 3 little girls in karma face paint and their mom who went up to the barricade right before she went on and what conversations might be going on right now.”
The video caption said, “JoJo Siwa, they could NEVER make me like you.”
For most of her career, Siwa has been a role model for young children. Recently, she has been experimenting with darker, more dramatic looks and music. In April, she turned heads at the 2024 iHeartRadio Video Music Awards for arriving in a revealing mesh outfit and black face paint.
“This is my ‘KARMA,’ black beast look,” Siwa said during a red carpet interview with <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1398587/jojo-siwa-pushes-back-on-criticism-of-her-adult-era-while-debuting-dramatic-all-black-look">E! News</a>, referring to her newly released single. “It’s got some rips in it, but you’d never know.”
When asked how she’s responding to backlash for her new, more provocative look, Siwa said, “People are afraid of things they don’t know. Things can be scary for people. New things can be very, very scary.”
The singer also defended herself by saying “respected” artists, including Lil Nas X and Meghan Trainor, liked her new look.

An internal memo from the 24 Hour Fitness Center labels <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/black-lives-matter">Black Lives Matter</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pride">Pride</a> Symbols “freedom of expression” has drawn backlash over concerns the gym would be limiting display of the American flag. 
In the letter obtained by <a href="https://x.com/libsoftiktok/status/1800516615970365573/photo/1">Libs Of TikTok</a>, it informs employees that the fitness company is committed to “creating a more inclusive environment” before it details what is and is not allowed.
The memo said it encourages employees to “bring their full selves to work everyday” and then lists that “team members” can wear apparel that shows their “solidarity and support” for the following movements.

In a statement to Newsweek, 24 Hour Fitness said that it would encourage all employees to wear American flag pins any day of the year.
&#8220;Currently and historically, 24 Hour Fitness&#8217; policy regarding staff expression has allowed and encouraged wearing symbols like American flag pins any day of the year, including prominent national holidays like Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, and Veterans Day,&#8221; a spokesman <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/24-hour-fitness-american-flag-boycott-conservatives-1911978#:~:text=However%2C%20in%20a%20statement%20to,holidays%20like%20Memorial%20Day%2C%20Flag" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Newsweek.
Last year, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/target">Target</a> faced a massive backlash when it put its June “Pride” merchandise like “tuck-friendly” female swimsuits front and center in the store.  This year the retail store has decided it will tamp back the LGBTQ push after it faced boycotts and sinking sales. 
The retailer <a href="https://apnews.com/article/target-lgbtq-pride-667ab2f6545645f5f86ca76394e531d6">told</a> the Associated Press that only a limited number of its stores would be carrying special LGBT-themed merchandise in June. The store said the merchandise would only be available in select markets, based on “guest insights and consumer research.”
Despite the pullback, the store said that it still maintained that it fully supported the LGBT movement. 
“Target is committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month and year-round,” Target said. “Most importantly, we want to create a welcoming and supportive environment for our LGBTQIA+ team members, which reflects our culture of care for the over 400,000 people who work at Target.”
Last year, merchandise that was part of the store’s Pride collection, like “extra crotch coverage” female swimsuits and Pride-themed onesies, spurred calls for boycotts of Target, leading to declining sales and stock prices. Its <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/target-sales-sink-after-pride-backlash">sales plummeted</a> during the second quarter, after the backlash started, and fell for the first time in six years, falling 5.4% compared to the same period last year. Online sales fell nearly twice as much, 10.5%, Target said.

As Pride Month continues, several people have been charged with allegedly defacing Pride flags painted on streets with tire marks, and some critics have even accused them of a hate crime.
In early February, a Florida man was <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/02/14/news/florida-man-dylan-brewer-arrested-for-vandalising-lgbtq-pride-mural/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> of deliberately doing multiple burnouts with his pickup truck in a Delray Beach intersection that was painted in rainbow colors.
The incident was caught on surveillance video, which police released. It shows a pickup truck with LED underbody lights and an American flag attached to the back, leaving tire marks on the intersection&#8217;s Pride paint while making a hard left after dark.

Dylan Brewer, 19, surrendered to authorities after they searched for him for a week. He was charged with felony criminal mischief, damage to property over $1,000, and misdemeanor reckless driving. He was released on a $5,250 bond.
“Witnesses reported that Brewer was observed intentionally performing multiple burnouts with his vehicle over the LGBTQ pride crosswalk,” the Delray Beach Police Department said. “The reckless action caused significant damage to the streetscape painting, which serves as a symbol of unity and inclusivity for the LGBTQ community.”
The Palm Beach County Human Rights Council declared Brewer&#8217;s actions should be considered a hate crime.
Then earlier this month, three teenagers were arrested and charged with a felony for leaving scooter marks on the Pride flag painted on a street in Spokane. Prosecutors demanded a $15,000 bond for the teens.

Police used surveillance footage from the intersection to find the suspects.
The 19-year-old suspect was charged with malicious mischief with a hate crime bias. He was accused of shouting &#8220;f&#8211;k you f&#8212;-t&#8221; at a passerby.
&#8220;We see that you have done this thing,&#8221; one witness <a href="https://www.krem.com/article/news/local/arrests-wednesday-at-newly-painted-pride-crosswalk-mural/293-57722e04-0df0-4484-856e-fed3d7a37c23" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;People don&#8217;t just go and do that without intention. You don&#8217;t destroy symbols without intention behind it.&#8221;

Lime Scooters, which rents the scooters the teens were using, <a href="https://www.krem.com/article/news/local/arrests-wednesday-at-newly-painted-pride-crosswalk-mural/293-57722e04-0df0-4484-856e-fed3d7a37c23" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it would be &#8220;taking immediate action against the perpetrators.&#8221;

“All of us at Lime condemn these vile acts in no uncertain terms,&#8221; the company said in a statement, adding that it is &#8220;disturbing to see the hate taking place in Spokane.&#8221;
&#8220;We will not let the hateful few spoil the joy of Pride Month in Spokane, and are grateful for those working to make Spokane more welcoming for all,&#8221; Lime Scooters added.
The company also said it was &#8220;immediately instituting a no-ride zone around the mural to protect it from any future vandalism attempts,&#8221; which <a href="https://cbsaustin.com/news/nation-world/lime-enacts-no-go-zone-around-pride-crosswalk-in-washington-after-vandalism-electric-scooters-bikes-pride-month-mural-spokane-police" target="_blank" rel="noopener">means</a> the scooters will shut down if driven over the street&#8217;s Pride paint.

A local Spokane outlet also <a href="https://www.khq.com/news/pride-mural-seemingly-defaced-in-front-of-nonstop-local-crew/article_3e3a635a-245f-11ef-bd88-dbadc982f984.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that more youths left scooter skid marks on the street&#8217;s Pride display the next day. The youngsters also left skid marks on other parts of the street.

A new Washington state law making it a hate crime to deface public installations with the intent of intimidating a protected group <a href="https://www.khq.com/news/lgbtq-mural-defaced-by-arsonist-repainted-ahead-of-spokane-pride-festival/article_14ff7384-22f9-11ef-b1b4-ffcbead507ed.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went</a> into effect on June 6.
In Bend, Oregon, several vehicles <a href="https://www.centraloregondaily.com/news/local/bend-pride-crosswalk-defaced-graffiti-burnouts/article_14722cb6-2206-11ef-bc97-4791d5921734.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> burned their tires out on a Pride crosswalk, which police said could be classified as speed racing, which is a traffic violation as well as potentially even reckless driving.
In St. Petersburg, Florida residents complained about tire marks on their Pride-themed intersection as well.
“I’m having a hard time believing that it’s not intentional,” <a href="https://patch.com/florida/stpete/recently-repainted-lgbtq-pride-street-mural-defaced-tire-marks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Rachel Covello, who organizes a local LGBT conference and called the police over the tire marks.
In some instances, streets painted in Pride flag colors have been vandalized directly with graffiti, arson, or more paint.
However, critics have argued that simply leaving tire marks or scooter skid marks on the street does not constitute a hate crime.

&#8220;I&#8217;m just done with it. I don&#8217;t like the flag. I think it&#8217;s a piece of idiocy. I don&#8217;t understand why it changes every bloody week. I don&#8217;t know who makes those decisions,&#8221; Peterson said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t like the acronym and all the mystery surrounding it. I don&#8217;t like the fact that the LGBT agenda, whatever that is, increasingly dominates the school system. I don&#8217;t like the fact that it&#8217;s targeted at young people.&#8221;
Peterson said he also has a problem with the idea of the LGBT &#8220;community,&#8221; especially in light of gender ideology and its influence on children.
&#8220;Because it&#8217;s not a community, and it&#8217;s especially not a community right now, because the trans-pushing, gender-affirming butchers and liars primarily target young people whose most likely outcome on the sexual front is homosexuality,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;So the transgender-affirming butchers and liars are differentially destroying the youthful gay community,&#8221; Peterson added. &#8220;And that&#8217;s not a community by any stretch of the imagination.&#8221;
In recent years, a wave of seemingly gender dysphoric children in both the U.S. and Europe have been approved for drugs and surgeries to make them appear as the opposite sex. Some European countries and U.S. states have since pumped the brakes on these treatments.

Peterson added that he thinks transgender surgery is &#8220;Nazi, Auschwitz level awful&#8221; and such surgeries on children should not only stop, but the surgeons who performed them should be &#8220;imprisoned.&#8221;
Peterson also cited author G.K Chesterton, who offered a rule of thumb that you should not destroy a fence before knowing why it was put up — in other words, people should not destroy an institution or tradition before understanding why it is in place.
&#8220;The pride movement has torn down a lot of fences, and maybe some of those fences needed to go. But all of them didn&#8217;t need to go, and there&#8217;s plenty of monsters coming out to play now,&#8221; Peterson said.
&#8220;That&#8217;s why we&#8217;re seeing this butchery in the medical community, abetted by idiot allies and driven by greed. And those aren&#8217;t the worst monsters that exist. And so, if you tear down enough fences, you&#8217;re going to find out what they&#8217;re for,&#8221; Peterson said.
&#8220;Keep pushing. Keep pushing. You&#8217;re going to lose everything you&#8217;ve gained. And I&#8217;m not celebrating that at all,&#8221; Peterson said.
Peterson also criticized Pride Month&#8217;s name.
&#8220;You should be very careful what you name things, and ‘pride’ is not a virtue,&#8221; Peterson.
&#8220;Pride is a cardinal sin, and there&#8217;s a reason for that,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Pride means something like stubborn refusal to change when evidence of error is accruing, and it&#8217;s not a good thing.&#8221;
Peterson noted that some LGBT supporters may argue that they do not really mean &#8220;pride,&#8221; they are just trying to &#8220;affirm&#8221; their identities.
&#8220;Fair enough, I suppose, to some degree, but that was the name that was chosen, and that&#8217;s the name that stuck,&#8221; Peterson said.
&#8220;There&#8217;s a real tinge of narcissism, sexual narcissism, about the whole pride spectacle,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Do people have the right to express their sexuality the way they see fit? To some degree, if it&#8217;s consensual and among adults, but generally among human beings with any degree of civilized comportment whatsoever, it&#8217;s a pretty damn private affair.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s also the case that identities based on something as narrow as sexual desire, let&#8217;s say, aren&#8217;t identities at all. They&#8217;re pronouncements of subjection to instinctual whim,&#8221; Peterson said.

Canadian Conservative Party leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pierre-poilievre" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pierre Poilievre</a> ruffled a few feathers when he failed to attend a Pride flag-raising ceremony in Ottawa to kick off the start of LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
Poilievre offered a simple explanation for his absence, saying that he was doing far more for the people of Canada if he addressed the issues they cared about rather than showing up to watch someone hoist a rainbow flag.
&#8220;I was working last night, until midnight, fighting against inflation and interest rate hikes, and that was my focus and will continue to be my focus,&#8221; Poilievre said when asked why he had not made it a point to attend the ceremony.
Canada&#8217;s Liberal Party created &#8220;Wanted&#8221; posters highlighting Poilievre&#8217;s absence at the flag-raising, mocking the Conservative Party leader and suggesting he didn&#8217;t want to attend unless he could wear a &#8220;straight pride&#8221; shirt.

A recurring guest on Ms. Rachel, the popular YouTube channel for young children, performed at a pride month event where drag performers went on to dance for young children, providing further evidence that families should steer clear from the content, according to Daily Wire host Matt Walsh.
The event, called the “Queer Fam Pride Jam” was hosted at Chicago, Illinois’ Millenium Park and prominently featured Jules Hoffman, a star on a YouTube channel that has nearly 10 million subscribers for its popular videos for babies and toddlers. The performance came just one day after Ms. Rachel, the woman who runs the channel, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/matt-walsh-fires-back-after-ms-rachel-posts-pride-month-video-she-doesnt-want-your-business">posted a video</a> celebrating pride month. The Daily Wire attended the event and captured footage of Hoffman&#8217;s performance, as well as performances from the “Chicago Drag Superstars” and “Fabulous Freddie.&#8221;
&#8220;Is this the &#8216;Happy Pride&#8217; Ms. Rachel was talking about?&#8221; Walsh <a href="https://x.com/MattWalshBlog/status/1797736738934403584">asked in a post</a> on X. &#8220;Celebrating the exposure of children to grown men with fetishes and a penchant for sharing them with little kids?&#8221; Walsh also went on to blast Jules Hoffman for her album &#8220;Power to the Queer Kids,&#8221; the proceeds of which went to the Trevor Project, an organization that encourages transgender identification among children.

Walsh took aim at Rachel Accurso, better known as Ms. Rachel, on Saturday night after she posted a message for pride month in which she said she didn&#8217;t care if fans were insulted by her message.
&#8220;This is a message to conservatives parents,&#8221; Walsh wrote. &#8220;She doesn’t want your business. You should respond accordingly.&#8221;
The “Queer Fam” event headlined by Hoffman was sponsored by the City of Chicago and Lululemon, and was attended by several drag performers, the Mayor of Chicago, and hundreds of children, infants, and toddlers. Members of the “Chicago Drag Superstars” performed in front of the children in tight costumes. Another drag queen even did children’s makeup at a “drag makeover” table to prepare them for a march around the park to celebrate LGBT pride month.
One drag performer danced for children while wearing a tight-fitting outfit, accepting a dollar bill from one child and dropping to the floor in front of another, spreading his legs apart as he posed on the ground.

Another performer taught children “vogueing,” a suggestive style of dance that is popular within the LGBT movement. The performer, who calls himself “Fabulous Freddie,” taught children the dance style and lined them up one-by-one, strutting each down an imaginary “catwalk.”
Accurso responded to the criticism on Monday, saying her embrace for pride month is rooted in her Christianity. &#8220;I am a Christian and in the Bible it says the greatest commandments are to love God and love your neighbor,&#8221; Accurso said. &#8220;I love all of my neighbors and that excludes no one.&#8221;

Singer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/adele">Adele</a> had a strong reaction when someone in the crowd allegedly spoke negatively about “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lgbtq">Pride</a>.”
A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media after it was <a href="https://x.com/SkyNews/status/1797209291239387292">shared</a> Sunday by Sky News. The clip showed the “Someone Like You” singer addressing the concertgoer from the stage of her Las Vegas residency on June 1, the first day of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pride-month">Pride Month</a>.”
The fan had reportedly yelled out, “Pride sucks,” which is what prompted Adele to respond in anger. However, another fan posted a video of the alleged heckler, claiming he had actually said, “Work sucks.” 
“Hate to defend a m*n but the guy was somewhere behind me and he said “work sucks” not “pride sucks,” that X user <a href="https://x.com/someonelikejess/status/1797181800596595132">wrote</a>. 
Adele believed he said “pride,” though. 
“Did you come to my f***ing show and just say that Pride sucks?” the singer said. 
“Are you f***ng stupid?” the 36-year-old recording artist added. “Don’t be so f***ing ridiculous. If you don’t have anything nice to say, shut up, all right?” 
Adele then brushed her hair off her shoulder dramatically as many concertgoers started cheering and clapping.
A second video shows another moment during the event when the Grammy Award-winning star addressed the fan again. “Happy Pride,” she said, pointing in the direction of the person who yelled out. “Not to you, though.”
This isn’t the first time the British singer voiced her support for the LGBT community. In 2016, she spoke through tears about the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.
“I would like to start tonight by dedicating this entire show to everybody in Orlando at Pulse nightclub,” Adele told the crowd. “The LGBTQ community, they’re like my soulmates since I was really young, so I’m really moved by it.”
The singer frequently uses profanity to make her point when addressing the crowd. After several high-profile performers were hit by fans throwing projectiles onto the stage, Adele <a href="https://x.com/PopCrave/status/1676222808676761600">issued</a> a stern warning to anyone attending her shows.

Scholastic is encouraging teachers to &#8220;disrupt the status quo&#8221; by exposing children to LGBT books this Pride Month, telling them they &#8220;absolutely know queer children.&#8221;
The children&#8217;s book publishing company recently released its 2024 <a href="https://www.scholastic.com/content/dam/scholastic/educators/discussion-guides/read-with-pride-disc-guide.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">guide</a> for Scholastic&#8217;s <a href="https://www.scholastic.com/site/read-with-pride.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">annual</a> &#8220;Read With Pride&#8221; initiative, which includes LGBT children&#8217;s book recommendations.
The guide assures teachers, caregivers, and &#8220;advocates&#8221; that &#8220;whether or not they are out to themselves or you, you absolutely know queer children and interact with them in your classrooms, libraries, and communities.&#8221;
&#8220;Books and literature are never neutral; by engaging with queer literature for children and young adults, you are disrupting the status quo that implies being cisgender, heterosexual, and allosexual are the default. You are showing children an expanded way of thinking and being that validates all children and all people,&#8221; the guide states.
Scholastic recommends LGBT books for children as young as preschool age.
For &#8220;the youngest reader,&#8221; Scholastic recommends several books, including &#8220;My Moms Love Me&#8221; about a lesbian couple with a baby, and &#8220;You Are Loved,&#8221; a book in which &#8220;readers will meet families with two moms and two dads,&#8221; <a href="https://www.scholastic.com/site/read-with-pride/books.html#loved" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the description.
Scholastic recommends dozens of books for older children ages eight to 12, including three by the same author, Alex Gino. &#8220;Melissa&#8221; is about a trans-identifying boy, and the other two books are about non-binary characters.
&#8220;When people look at Melissa, they think they see a boy named George. But she knows she&#8217;s not a boy. She knows she&#8217;s a girl,&#8221; reads the book&#8217;s description.
Another recommended book for ages eight to 12 is &#8220;Moonflower&#8221; by Kacen Callender. It is about a depressed non-binary 12-year-old who is &#8220;afraid that their mom hates them&#8221; and travels to a &#8220;spirit realm.&#8221;
The guide includes dozens of books aimed at young teens 14 and up, including &#8220;The Feeling of Falling in Love&#8221; by Mason Deaver, which introduces children to the idea of a &#8220;friend with benefits.&#8221;
The guide also lists resources for &#8220;supporting&#8221; LGBT youth and books, including The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that says it works to prevent LGBT youth suicides. The Trevor Project previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgraced-non-binary-biden-official-helped-create-school-policy-to-hide-childrens-gender-changes-from-parents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">helped</a> devise a model school policy that says schools should hide suicidal students’ sexual orientation and gender identity from their parents unless the student gives permission.

Scholastic&#8217;s 2024 guide also dedicates nearly a full page to promoting the claim that affirming children&#8217;s new gender identities helps prevent their suicides, heavily citing The Trevor Project. Several recent studies have <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10101898/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> that social transition does not necessarily improve children&#8217;s and teens&#8217; mental health.
&#8220;As a teacher, librarian, educator, or caregiver, how you interact with all children and teens around queerness matters,&#8221; Scholastic&#8217;s guide states. &#8220;What literature you provide them with, and how you talk about both literature and identity, can have an immense, life-changing impact on the young people in your life.&#8221;
&#8220;Everyone benefits from books with authentic representation of queer identities,&#8221; the guide adds.

When Daily Wire host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/the-michael-knowles-show" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Knowles</a> spoke last month at the University of Utah, he was met with a host of leftist protesters and university-approved transgender flags filling the building he was speaking in — a demonstration that was in part <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBXjhH7EzvQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">supported</a> by the school faculty. 
The protest took place as Knowles, who had been brought to campus by the Young America’s Foundation, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/an-especially-american-problem-michael-knowles-addresses-the-u-s-establishments-radical-embrace-of-transgenderism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gave a speech</a> on the problems with transgender ideology on April 8 at the university. At the same time, Philip Osteen, the dean of Utah’s College of Social Work, reportedly extended the school’s Pride celebration so that it coincided with Knowles’ speech and approved for transgender and LGBT flags and banners to fill the building Knowles was set to speak in. 
Osteen, the dean of the building where Knowles spoke, approved the trans flag demonstration, but said he couldn’t give the go-ahead for students to put up American flags when pressed by YAF representative Breana Marsh.

“I think it&#8217;s a gross misuse to say that we’re going to make a safe place, we’re going to make students feel represented and protected, and everyone feels safe, at the absolute hanging of your conservative students,&#8221; Marsh said in audio shared by YAF with The Daily Wire. 
Osteen said she should bring her concerns to the dean of students, saying that YAF could put up American flags in the room where Knowles was speaking but “not in the decoration of this building.”
He then said that if YAF got approval from facilities and the dean of students that they could put up American flags. When asked why he could approve Pride flags, but not the American flag, he said “because I approved these to go up as a celebration of our pride.”

When asked about why Pride week had been continued into a second week, Osteen said it was because the school wanted students to know it was “an inclusive place to support trans rights, LGBTQ2s rights.”
Later, during his speech Knowles commented on the amount of students who had shown up to oppose him. He said he was surprised that even in “meek and mild Utah,” he saw a video of “some wild banshee-like lady accosting, assaulting one of the students here as the student was hanging up flyers for this lecture tonight.”
One protester, who did not listen to Knowles&#8217; speech, sat down with The Daily Wire host after to discuss their views. During their conversation, Knowles pushed him to reconsider his acceptance of transgender ideology.
