A board member for the media company that owns POLITICO derided an article the outlet published from the Associated Press as “one-sided Hamas support.”
Martin Varsavsky, a board member of Berlin-based media company Axel Springer, took to X on Tuesday to criticize the AP piece published by POLITICO that cited Hamas&#8217; death toll numbers even though they have lied about the count repeatedly.
“I am on the board of Axel Springer that owns Político. I consider this article one sided Hamas support,” Varsavsky said. “It fails to mention that the airstrikes were aimed at eliminating top Hamas military and thar Israel was successful at doing so. It also quotes casualty figures given by Hamas that are not believed to be accurate.”

The AP article posted on POLITICO’s website cited Gaza Health Ministry officials claiming Israeli airstrikes killed at least 200 people and included a photo of a man holding a child with blood coming out of her nose.
The Gaza Health Ministry is notorious for lying about the number of casualties, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hamas-run-gaza-health-ministry-cited-by-legacy-media-has-history-of-lying-about-civilian-casualties" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The false statistics designed to inflate the number of casualties caused by Israel have been known for at least a decade, with a U.S. News &amp; World Report opinion piece highlighting the issue back in 2014.
“Hamas lies systematically, instructing civilians to misinform the foreign press. It lies habitually, with a formidable record of mendacity from previous conflicts. And it lies guiltlessly, convinced that the objectives of ‘resistance’ supersede quaint notions of truth-telling,” Oren Kessler wrote at the time.
In August 2024, about 80 media outlets had to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eighty-media-outlets-issue-correction-on-ap-story-that-inflated-gaza-civilian-death-toll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issue a correction</a> to an AP story that falsely claimed that more than 40,000 civilians had been killed in the Israel-Hamas war that started after Hamas terrorists committed a massacre against Israelis on October 7, 2023. The Gaza Health Ministry claims more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed, but it never said all 40,000 were civilians.
Israel estimates that more than 17,000 of those killed in the war were Hamas terrorists.
Even though the Gaza Health Ministry is known to inflate the number of casualties, media outlets continue to cite them to frame Israel as unnecessarily aggressive. The AP story criticized by Varsavksy noted in the 11th paragraph that Israel “was striking Hamas’ military, leaders and infrastructure” in the attacks, citing an Israeli official. Prior to that, the outlet described wounded Palestinians, including a crying little girl. It also provided Hamas’ perspective on the attacks while minimizing Israel’s.
The AP also reported that the “White House sought to blame Hamas for the renewed fighting” in the 9th paragraph. As National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes told the outlet, Hamas “could have released hostages to extend the ceasefire but instead chose refusal and war.” Several paragraphs earlier, the AP let Hamas blame Israel for ending the ceasefire.
The Associated Press once shared an office building with Hamas in Gaza, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/associated-press-laments-loss-of-gaza-bureau-which-shared-office-space-with-terrorist-organization-hamas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. That building was destroyed in 2021.
The AP noted at the time that all of its employees and freelancers were able to evacuate the building safely, thanks to the Israeli military calling ahead to warn them of the strike, as it does when targeting civilian buildings. The reason Israel targets those civilian structures is because Hamas and Palestinian authorities hide intelligence operations, weapons, and other important assets in these buildings, claiming victimhood after they’re destroyed.

Collins spoke with <a href="https://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/curtis-houck/2025/02/10/another-one-bites-dust-veterans-affairs-axes-nearly-180k-politico" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsbusters</a> about his plan to cancel the Politico Pro subscriptions, telling the outlet that he was ushering in &#8220;a new day at VA&#8221; and adding, &#8220;We’re putting Veterans at the center of everything the department does, focusing relentlessly on customer service and convenience.&#8221;
&#8220;We’re working every day to find new and better ways of helping VA beneficiaries. That means cutting wasteful spending and redirecting resources toward programs that benefit Veterans, families, survivors and caregivers,&#8221; Collins added.
The VA has already taken actions to root out and terminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and initiatives, a move that could save the department millions of dollars.

Politico became a headline last week when it was reported that the federal government spent some $8 million in payments for Politico Pro subscriptions in FY 2024. Other reports indicated that the outlet has received  as much as $34 million from various federal agencies for similar subscriptions.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/trump-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump administration</a> on Thursday ordered the General Services Administration (GSA) to &#8220;cancel every single media contract&#8221; by the end of the day.
The email follows shocking findings from DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, namely that legacy media outlets were taking in millions of dollars from the federal government through mass subscription contracts. For example, the federal government paid more than $8 million to Politico last year alone for the outlet&#8217;s Politico Pro service.
&#8220;GSA team, please do two things,&#8221; the email, which was first obtained by Axios, reads. &#8220;Pull all contracts for Politico, BBC, E&amp;E (Politico sub) and Bloomberg. Pull all media contracts for just GSA &#8211; cancel every single media contract today for GSA only.&#8221;
It&#8217;s unclear how many subscriptions GSA was paying for, but the agency, which manages federal property and technology services for the federal government, has about 12,000 employees.
Additionally, an X account for DOGE posted Wednesday that &#8220;Treasury leadership verified that their NYT (New York Times) contracts were cancelled today.&#8221;

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said this week that the White House can confirm that they are canceling payments for Politico Pro subscriptions across numerous agencies. 
The controversy started when DOGE highlighted waste from USAID, which had an annual budget of about $40 billion dollars and around <a href="https://www.opb.org/article/2025/02/06/usaid-cut-dramatically-as-offices-set-to-close-midnight-friday/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">13,000 </a>employees. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier this week that the initial goal was to reform USAID, but they were met with so much resistance from the agency that they were forced to take drastic action.

The White House released a preliminary list of wasteful projects USAID has funded, including giving millions of taxpayer dollars to a group involved with research at the Wuhan lab, hundreds of thousands to a non-profit linked to terror groups, $2 million for LGBT activism in Guatemala, and <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14344255/trump-millions-dei-foreign-aid-programs-funding.html">$1.5 million</a> to advance DEI in Serbia.
Nearly all staff at the agency will be <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/usaid-missions-overseas-ordered-shutdown-by-friday/">placed on leave</a> by Friday night and all overseas missions have been ordered to shut down.

As The Trump administration continues cutting waste from the federal government, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the left-wing media outlet Politico will no longer receive millions of dollars from the federal government that she said was “essentially subsidizing subscriptions.”
“I was made aware of the funding from USAID to media outlets, including Politico, who I know has a seat in this room,” Leavitt began. “I can confirm that the more than $8 million taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the American taxpayers&#8217; dime will no longer be happening. The DOGE team is working on canceling those payments now.”
“Again, this is a whole-of-government effort to ensure that we are going line by line when it comes to the federal government’s books. And this president and his team are making decisions across the board on ‘Do these receipts serve the interests of the American people? Is this a good use of the American taxpayers’ money? The exact details of how Politico receives the large sum from the government are unclear. Politico isn&#8217;t receiving government grants, but rather has a large number of employees at various federal agencies subscribing to <a href="https://www.politicopro.com/plans/">Politico&#8217;s premium product</a>, Politico Pro, on the taxpayer&#8217;s dime. A subscription reportedly costs $10,000 a year.

Politico was founded in 2007 by two former Washington Post columnists: John  F. Harris and Jim VandeHei. VandeHei later co-founded and became the CEO of Axios, another left-wing media site.  In 2022, Politico published the leaked draft of the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.

Trump To Cut Off Politico From Federal Funds, Press Sec Says

Attorney Mark Paoletta warned employees within the Justice Department that they needed to be ready to help President-elect Donald Trump implement his lawful agenda come January 20, 2025 — or they should start packing up their desks.
Paoletta, who served as General Counsel for the Office of Management and Budget during the first Trump administration, responded on Monday to a POLITICO article that suggested lawyers working within the DOJ were &#8220;terrified&#8221; of what to expect from Trump, who blames the DOJ under President Joe Biden for engaging in political prosecution.

Paoletta minced no words in his response, shared via X, explaining that Trump had been elected to implement the agenda he promised from the campaign trail and, provided his agenda was within the laws of the United States, it was the responsibility of those serving in the federal government to aid him as he did so.
Paoletta went on to list a series of agenda items on which employees within the DOJ would be expected to assist.

<li>Granting pardons or commutations to January 6th defendants and other defendants who have been subjected to politically-driven lawfare prosecutions and sentences.</li>
<li>Abolishing DEI in government and taking action against those companies and universities that engage in racial discrimination.</li>
<li>Protecting Americans’ right to speech, religion, and the Second Amendment.</li>
<li>Protecting religious liberties, including investigating and prosecuting the horrific antisemitism ripping through this country.</li>
<li>Protecting parents’ rights from irreparable transgender surgeries and procedures on minor children, and investigating those who have pushed this on minor children.</li>
<li>Paving the way for an energy boom and American Energy Golden Age.</li>
<li>Holding accountable those who weaponized their government authority to abuse Americans.</li>

&#8220;These are all positions President Trump campaigned on and that career DOJ lawyers may be working on to accomplish President Trump’s lawful agenda that was approved by a landslide vote of the American People,&#8221; Paoletta continued, pointing out the fact that it was not within the job description of career DOJ employees to set the agenda moving forward, and it was their responsibility to assist in implementing the agenda of the President.

Paoletta went on to note that they would certainly be allowed to give feedback, but they should understand that the ultimate decision would not be theirs.
&#8220;Of course, no one will push them to implement flagrantly illegal actions like President Biden did with his student loan plan, where he thumbed his nose at the Supreme Court’s ruling and then tried to implement another illegal plan which was struck down,&#8221; Paoletta continued. &#8220;(In fact, the media was cheering on his law-breaking). I don’t recall reading any stories about career attorneys being concerned about working on this blatantly illegal action.&#8221;
&#8220;If these career DOJ employees won’t implement President Trump’s program in good faith, they should leave,&#8221; he concluded. &#8220;Those employees who engage in so-called &#8216;resistance&#8217; against the duly-elected President’s lawful agenda would be subverting American democracy. As the debate between Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) and Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz kicked off on Tuesday, many viewers noticed that Walz appeared nervous, struggling to get through his first answer with his eyes wide open. But according to a <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/10/02/walz-vance-vp-debate-body-language-analysis-00182127" target="_blank" rel="noopener">POLITICO article</a> written by a &#8220;body language expert&#8221; on Wednesday, Walz&#8217;s &#8220;eyes wide as saucers&#8221; revealed intense &#8220;passion,&#8221; not edginess.
&#8220;When Walz felt especially passionate about something, he’d open his eyes wide as saucers,&#8221; Navarro wrote. &#8220;Eye-popping can sometimes be a sign of surprise, but for Walz, it simply revealed his emotional intensity.&#8221;
&#8220;Early humans would have made such facial gestures to communicate strong emotions, like &#8216;danger is close.&#8217; For Walz, it gave extra weight to his feelings and held our gaze,&#8221; he added.
Another &#8220;body language tell&#8221; mentioned in the POLITICO article was Vance&#8217;s beard, and Navarro wrote that &#8220;voters see beards as (surprise, surprise) more masculine.&#8221;
&#8220;That can be positive to some, reading as strength and competence. But to others, especially women, it can be negative, conveying aggression and opposition to feminist ideals,&#8221; he added.
Other body language the writer focused on included Vance&#8217;s hand gestures and frown, and Walz&#8217;s &#8220;furrowing&#8221; eyebrows and pointing at the camera. The article&#8217;s claim about Walz&#8217;s wide eyes gained the most attention on social media as conservatives blasted it.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been running for president for just over a week, and most of that time has been spent attacking former President Donald Trump while media does the real heavy lifting: putting distance between Harris and policy positions she embraced either as a part of President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration or during her 2020 presidential campaign.
On Sunday, the policy in question was fracking — which Harris promised she would ban during her presidential campaign — and the outlet was <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/07/28/harris-campaign-trump-fracking-ban-00171537#:~:text=Vice%20President%20Kamala%20Harris'%20campaign,record%20oil%20and%20gas%20output." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Politico</a>.
&#8220;Harris campaign pledges she won’t ban fracking after Trump accusation,&#8221; the headline read, and the text parroted the Harris campaign&#8217;s claim that the Trump campaign had made a false accusation even though Harris herself had done exactly what they said she had. Politico later dropped &#8220;after Trump accusation&#8221; from the headline.
&#8220;Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign pledged the likely Democratic presidential nominee would not ban fracking, rejecting what it called &#8216;false&#8217; accusations by Donald Trump that she would prohibit the technology if elected president,&#8221; Ben Lefebvre wrote for the outlet.
&#8220;Trump’s false claims about fracking bans are an obvious attempt to distract from his own plans to enrich oil and gas executives at the expense of the middle class. The Biden-Harris Administration passed the largest ever climate change legislation and under their leadership, America now has the highest ever domestic energy production,&#8221; The Harris campaign said in a statement, and issued a later statement saying that she would not ban fracking.
But Harris said that she would ban the practice several times, and until Trump said something about it, she had not made any attempt to walk it back.

Some on President Joe Biden&#8217;s team believe that former President Barack Obama — Biden&#8217;s former boss — may be pulling the strings behind the scenes in an effort to tank his re-election efforts.
According to a report aired during Thursday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;Morning Joe,&#8221; some within Biden&#8217;s inner circle and some Democratic officials believe that Obama is steering vocal criticisms of Biden in an effort to push him out of the 2024 presidential race.

Clooney, who recently hosted a fundraiser for Biden and has been a long-time supporter of the president, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/george-clooney-joins-chorus-of-stars-telling-biden-its-time-to-drop-out-of-race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published a piece</a> on Wednesday saying that he believed it was time for the party to replace him.

An article on a leftist group&#8217;s multimillion dollar push to target the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/supreme-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Supreme Court</a> from Politico neglected to mention the group’s ties to dark money groups, characterizing it as a progressive “court reform” group. 
The <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/07/02/demand-justice-supreme-court-reform-00166142" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> from reporter Heidi Przybyla discussed Demand Justice’s move to spend $10 million to conduct “opposition research on potential Supreme Court picks” and “work to mobilize key constituencies affected by the court’s decisions.” The financial campaign amid a series of conservative wins at the court in recent weeks — including key decisions clawing back the administrative state and ruling in favor of presidential immunity for official actions. 
In her article on the spending blitz, Przyblya did not mention how Demand Justice has a history of being backed by dark money groups. Demand Justice was first established as a project of the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a leftist dark money network administered by Left-wing group Arabella Advisors. Due the their structure, the groups funders are able to remain anonymous. 
The group <a href="https://www.axios.com/progressive-demand-justice-group-spin-off-c68f3cf4-3217-4d24-b52c-ab4826305130.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">broke off</a> from Sixteen Thirty Fund and registered as a nonprofit corporation in May 2021. Przyblya, who previously went viral for suggesting it was an extremist belief to say rights come from God, left out these ties in her write up on the article. 
Conservative radio host Erik Erickson <a href="https://x.com/EWErickson/status/1808125282722672878" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ripped</a> into Przyblya over the article, saying that she was she is “clearly a leftwing hack doing the work of the left to undermine American institutions” and writing a “press release” for Demand Justice. 
Przyblya&#8217;s article also took aim at the Federalist Society, accusing board co-chair Leonard Leo of leading a &#8220;deep-pocketed network of ultraconservative judicial activists.&#8221; The Federalist Society is a network of lawyers, law students, and legal scholars who want to promote the principles of limited government.
Leo told The Daily Wire that the spending campaign was the latest move to try to target the Supreme Court. 
“Arabella’s dark money network has announced it will be spending another $10M to bully the Supreme Court it hates and try to distract from a dying Biden campaign,” he said. “More evidence that the conservative legal movement is winning and that we’ve delivered tremendous value to our country.&#8221;
Conservative government accountability group Americans for Public Trust said that the money would be used to smear the court. 
“The liberal dark money machine is working overtime as @WeDemandJustice spends $10 million to attack and smear the Supreme Court,” the group posted on <a href="https://twitter.com/apublictrust/status/1808159574966304990">X</a>. “REMINDER: Demand Justice, now an independent group, was originally incubated by the @ArabellaAdvisornetwork, and is still  heavily funded by Sixteen Thirty Fund and George Soros.”

Demand Justice&#8217;s campaign against the court comes as many Democrats, including President Joe Biden, have lashed out against the Supreme Court, accusing of it being filled with extremists.
“This decision today has continued the court’s attack in recent years on a wide range of long established legal principles in our nation,” Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-biden-trashes-supreme-court-ignores-all-questions-from-media-following-disastrous-debate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on Monday after the Supreme Court sided with Trump on his immunity claims. “From gutting voting rights and civil rights to away a woman’s right to choose to today’s decision that undermines the rule of law of this nation.”

On Tuesday, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy had a pointed question for White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre after a POLITICO story indicated that Democrats are in a panic about President Joe Biden’s re-election.
On Tuesday, POLITICO ran an <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/28/democrats-freakout-over-biden-00160047">article</a> titled, “Dems in full-blown ‘freakout’ over Biden.” The article was subheaded, “One adviser to major Democratic donors keeps a running list of reasons Biden could lose.”
“Are you guys here at the White House in full-blown freak-out mode?” Doocy asked.
Jean-Pierre, reacting as if she had no knowledge of the POLITICO article, responded, “What are you talking about? What are you talking about?”
“There’s a — there’s a —” Doocy began, before Jean Pierre admonished, “Peter —”
Doocy continued, “— POLITICO story. It sounds like Democrats, outside —” then continued by quoting POLITICO saying Biden’s stubbornly poor polling and the stakes of the election “are creating the freakout,” according to a Democratic operative.
Jean-Pierre evaded the question, saying, “So again, I&#8217;m really mindful — I&#8217;m not going to comment on 2024 election,” then veered into speaking of Biden’s supposed compassion for the American people, saying, “I will say this — uh — the President has never forgotten where he comes — where he came from, who he is. He understands what the American people are going through as they&#8217;re sitting around the kitchen table.”

The POLITICO article started, “A pervasive sense of fear has settled in at the highest levels of the Democratic Party over President Joe Biden’s reelection prospects, even among officeholders and strategists who had previously expressed confidence about the coming battle with Donald Trump. &#8230; nearly five months from the election, anxiety has morphed into palpable trepidation, according to more than a dozen party leaders and operatives. And the gap between what Democrats will say on TV or in print, and what they’ll text their friends, has only grown as worries have surged about Biden’s prospects.”

He raised far more money in April, and the landscape may only become worse for Democrats, with Trump’s hush-money trial concluding and another — this one involving the president’s son — set to begin in Delaware.”
“One adviser to major Democratic Party donors provided a running list that has been shared with funders of nearly two dozen reasons why Biden could lose,” the article noted.
The adviser stated, “The list of why we ‘could’ win is so small I don’t even need to keep the list on my phone.”
Veteran Democratic strategist Pete Giangreco told POLITICO, “If the frame of this race is, ‘What was better, the 3.5 years under Biden or four years under Trump,’ we lose that every day of the week and twice on Sunday.”

Two prominent Christian groups sent a letter to Politico on Wednesday demanding an apology for a reporter&#8217;s viral comments about Christians that the groups called &#8220;deeply disturbing.&#8221;
The Family Research Council and Catholic Vote criticized Politico reporter Heidi Przybyla for &#8220;trying to demonize the Christian community&#8221; with her comment that only extremist &#8220;Christian nationalists&#8221; believe human rights &#8220;come from God.&#8221;
The groups said Przybyla&#8217;s comments &#8220;demonstrated a disqualifying lack of knowledge of the United States of America’s founding documents and a profoundly prejudicial view toward American religious groups.&#8221;
Przybyla, Politico&#8217;s national investigative correspondent, made the controversial remarks during an appearance on MSNBC last week.

Przybyla said that the &#8220;base of the Republican Party has shifted&#8221; after former President Donald Trump attracted a &#8220;more extremist element,&#8221; including &#8220;Christian nationalists.&#8221;
&#8220;The thing that unites them as Christian nationalists — not Christians, by the way, because Christian nationalist is very different — is that they believe that our rights as Americans, as all human beings, don&#8217;t come from any earthly authority. They don&#8217;t come from Congress, they don&#8217;t come from the Supreme Court. They come from God,&#8221; said Przybyla.
This is a problem, Przybyla said, because it means &#8220;men are determining what God is telling them.&#8221;
She went on to say that &#8220;natural law&#8221; is a pillar of Catholicism and has been used for good in social justice campaigns such as Martin Luther King Jr.&#8217;s civil rights movement.

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and Brian Burch of Catholic Vote wrote in their letter to Politico that it is &#8220;deeply disturbing&#8221; that Przybyla seems &#8220;unaware of the opening of the Declaration of Independence or to its references of &#8216;the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.'&#8221;

&#8220;Her statements constituted an attempt to spread misinformation about Christians by creating the perception that they hold unique beliefs that pose a distinct and, in her words &#8216;extremist,&#8217; threat to our country,&#8221; the Christian groups wrote. &#8220;Setting aside the inaccuracy of her commentary, she was manifestly trying to demonize the Christian community and sow fear through propaganda.&#8221;

The letter added that Przybyla&#8217;s public platform where she can reach millions of people makes the situation even more disturbing.
Additionally, the groups said Przybyla has a &#8220;pattern&#8221; of singling out Christian organizations, as evidence by her recent articles.
&#8220;Rhetoric like Ms. Przybyla’s, which demonizes religious groups, is profoundly dangerous. It can motivate disturbed individuals who may be predisposed to commit violence against faith communities,&#8221; the groups wrote.
The groups said they believe Przybyla’s comments reflect a &#8220;pervasive bias&#8221; that prevents her from covering religious issues.
&#8220;Ms. Przybyla owes people of faith an apology, as does her employer. Politico must confirm that such offensive comments have no place within its organization,&#8221; the groups wrote.
