Four people, including a young pregnant woman, were killed and at least six more were wounded when Hamas terrorists opened fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem Thursday morning, according to police. The terror attack took place after Hamas had promised to abide by a temporary ceasefire. 
At around 7:40 a.m. local time, two Palestinian gunmen jumped out of a vehicle at the bus stop near a main entrance to the capital city and fired at the people waiting for the bus, The Times of Israel <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/three-killed-6-injured-in-terror-shooting-at-jerusalem-entrance-bus-stop/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The terrorists were shot dead at the scene after two off-duty soldiers and an armed civilian returned fire. The Shin Bet security agency said the terrorists were brothers and members of Hamas who had previously been jailed for terrorist activity. 
Surveillance <a href="https://twitter.com/visegrad24/status/1730121365628256361" target="_blank" rel="noopener">footage</a> showed the two Hamas members jump out of their vehicle and immediately start shooting into the crowd at the bus stop. Within seconds, three people surround the terrorists and return fire, killing them at the scene. The terrorists used an M-16 rifle and a handgun and police found a large amount of ammunition when they searched the brothers’ vehicle, according to The Times of Israel. 
Livia Dickman, a 24-year-old woman who was pregnant with her first child, was declared dead at the scene of the terror attack, while Ashdod rabbinical judge Elimelech Wasserman, 73, and Hannah Ifergan, a woman in her 60s, were declared dead at the hospital. Two others taken to the hospital were in serious condition, three were listed as in moderate condition, and a sixth was in good condition, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared his condolences with the family members of those who were killed in the attack and praised the quick actions of Israelis who took down the terrorists. 
“My wife Sarah and I send our condolences from the bottom of our hearts to the families of those murdered in the attack in Jerusalem. We all pray for the peace of the wounded. The quick reaction of two fighters and a civilian who eliminated the terrorists prevented an even more serious attack. I salute them,” Netanyahu <a href="https://twitter.com/netanyahu/status/1730140838255096206" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement. 
“All Hamas terrorists are mortal &#8211; in Jerusalem, Gaza, Judea and Samaria &#8211; everywhere,” he added. “I appreciate the fact that both fighters and the civilian acted quickly on the ground. The government headed by me will continue expanding the distribution of weapons to citizens. This is a measure that proves itself time and time again in the war against murderous terrorism.”
Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, calling the terrorists “jihad-waging martyrs.” The older brother was jailed from 2010 to 2020 for planning attacks in coordination with terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip, and the younger brother was jailed in 2014 for undisclosed terror activity, Shin Bet said. After the shooting at the bus stop, Israeli police said officers arrested six of the terrorists&#8217; family members, including their parents, during a raid on their home.

The terror attack in Jerusalem came on the 55th day of the war between Israel and Hamas, which began after the brutal October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, which killed over 1,200 people. Hamas&#8217; latest attack on civilians also came during a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/terrorists-violate-temporary-ceasefire-in-gaza-as-israeli-forces-come-under-attack-idf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">temporary ceasefire</a>, which Israel and Hamas leaders agreed to last week to negotiate the release of hostages taken into Gaza by the terrorists. 
Hamas also violated the temporary ceasefire after attacking Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops in multiple locations, the IDF said on Tuesday.

Eight police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jayland Walker in Ohio last year were reportedly cleared of all charges on Tuesday, according to an internal investigation from the Akron Police Department.
&#8220;In my opinion, the use of deadly force was in compliance with the policies of the City of Akron Police Department,&#8221; Chief Steve Mylett <a href="https://ewscripps.brightspotcdn.com/b7/2e/35504f39473cac3e68312dcba3fc/executive-summary-11-28-23.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in an executive summary of the investigation.
Police <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/we-cannot-and-will-not-tolerate-violence-or-the-destruction-of-property-akron-officials-declare-state-of-emergency-following-riots-over-death-of-jayland-walker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shot and killed Walker</a> on June 27, 2022, after pursuing him in a car that had been involved in a crime the previous day. After refusing to stop, speeding through a residential neighborhood, and shooting at officers, Walker jumped out of the car in motion at a barricade and fled the scene on foot.
Although he did not have the gun with him as he ran, Mylett said the video showed Walker reaching for something at his waist and turning as he ran, prompting the police to fire. A state investigation later found Walker had fired a gun out of his car window while attempting to escape.
Police said they fired up to 60 bullets at Walker after he jumped out of the moving vehicle and shot at the officers. The Beacon Journal obtained an investigative worksheet from the medical examiner&#8217;s office, which reported officers shot Walker in the face, torso, and upper legs.
The report and video from the crime scene confirmed that Walker had a handgun in his silver Buick. The Akron Fraternal Order of Police said in a statement that traffic cameras had captured a muzzle flash from Walker&#8217;s car and that a shell casing had been found at the same location.
&#8220;I found that the facts and circumstances of this tragic shooting show that the officers had an objectively reasonable belief that Mr. Walker was armed and by his conduct presented an imminent risk of serious bodily injury or death to them and/or their fellow officers,&#8221; Mylett said.
The eight police officers were reportedly placed on administrative leave but later returned to regular duty, according to <a href="https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/2023/06/16/jayland-walkers-family-suing-akron-8-officers-over-fatal-shooting/70330379007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Akron Beacon Journal</a>.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted a criminal investigation into the shooting at the request of Mylett. The bureau reportedly presented its investigation to a special grand jury, which declined to indict the officers for any criminal offenses.
Akron city officials declined to comment further on the internal investigation, pointing to a pending federal lawsuit filed by Walker&#8217;s family. The family is suing the city for at least $45 million in damages — a million dollars per each bullet that struck Walker, the family reportedly stated.
According to <a href="https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/2023/06/16/jayland-walkers-family-suing-akron-8-officers-over-fatal-shooting/70330379007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">local media</a>, the lawsuit alleges excessive force, supervisory liability, and municipal liability and claims that Walker&#8217;s constitutional rights were violated.
In addition to seeking compensatory and punitive damages, attorney fees, and costs, the lawsuit also seeks &#8220;equitable relief, including, without limitation, that defendant city of Akron be made to adopt an appropriate policy to prevent future instances of the type of misconduct.&#8221;
Bobby DiCello, the Walker family&#8217;s attorney, released the following statement about the department&#8217;s conclusion of the investigation, according to local media.
“Everyone should be encouraged to read what the Chief of Police wrote. Cops are quitting <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-city">New York City</a>&#8216;s police force in droves with more than 2,500 officers leaving just this year.
A total of 2,516 NYPD officers have left so far this year, the fourth highest in the past 10 years, <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/11/25/metro/2516-nypd-cops-head-for-exits-so-far-in-2023-pension-data/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to NYPD pension data obtained by the New York Post.
The number also 43% higher than the 1,750 cops who left the force in 2018.
More cops are quitting before they get their pensions, too. Back in 2020, about 509 officers quit before the 20 years on the force they need to get their full pension. This year, 1,040 officers below the 20-year mark have quit already, a 104% increase, and the year is not even over.
“The workload is a leading factor driving people away from the job,” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/11/25/metro/2516-nypd-cops-head-for-exits-so-far-in-2023-pension-data/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “If the NYPD is going to survive these staffing reductions, it cannot just keep squeezing cops for more hours.”
Over just two days in February, 21 officers left the force for the MTA, the Post reported.
In June, former NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell stepped down, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nypd-commissioner-shocks-city-with-resignation-sources-blame-tension-with-mayor-adams">reportedly</a> due to tension with the mayor’s office.
The mass exodus comes as the police department faces drastic budget cuts due to the city&#8217;s illegal migrant crisis.
Mayor Eric Adams announced the budget cuts earlier this month. The NYPD will be slashed to just 29,000 cops by September, 2025, the lowest level in over two decades. The next five Police Academy classes have also been canceled as part of the cuts.
Also this year, the NYPD lowered its fitness standards to bring more women onto the force, a decision the mayor <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/03/01/nypd-kills-timed-run-requirement-for-new-nyc-cops/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> had to approve.
Last month, however, Adams admitted that the city needs more cops.
“We can use more,” Adams <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nyc-mayor-says-city-needs-more-cops-with-force-down-more-than-2000-officers">told</a> MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I’m very clear on that.”
The mayor added that he believes the problem extends beyond New York City and that “we have a law enforcement crisis across the country.”
In fact, other cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, and Nashville, have also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-police-hiring-crisis-is-gripping-u-s-cities-and-towns">struggled</a> with a police shortage in recent years.
Many in law enforcement say departments are suffering from flagging morale thanks to a wave of anti-police sentiment that peaked with the police killing of George Floyd in 2020. In some cases, city councils have slashed police budgets, leaving some police chiefs feeling abandoned as they are stretched thin trying to keep residents safe.
Resignations among cops were up 47% last year over 2019, and retirements were up 19% <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/us-experiencing-police-hiring-crisis-rcna103600" target="_blank" rel="noopener">among</a> 200 police forces surveyed by the Police Executive Research Forum.

Violent riots erupted in Ireland’s capital Dublin Thursday night after four people, including three children, were injured in a stabbing attack earlier in the day. 
Rioters set a bus and police car ablaze and damaged multiple buildings as officials suspended all public transport in the city, according to Fox News. The violent demonstrations were sparked by a stabbing that targeted children as young as 6 and 5 years old, with rumors swirling on social media regarding the attacker&#8217;s identity. 
The Irish Times <a href="https://www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/2023/11/24/gardai-conduct-search-seize-phone-and-laptop-of-suspect-for-dublin-child-stabbing/">reported</a> Friday that the suspect is a single man in his late 40s and “is a naturalized Irish citizen” while the Irish Independent <a href="https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/parnell-square-stabbing-girl-5-remains-in-critical-condition-today-deliveroo-driver-and-creche-worker-hailed-as-heroes/a198507873.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the suspect is believed to be a foreign-born man who became an Irish citizen and has lived in the country for “many years.” Police have ruled out terrorism as a motive for the attack. 
The attacker stabbed two 5-year-old girls and a 6-year-old boy. A school aftercare worker was also reportedly stabbed while attempting to shield the children from the attacker. The boy was discharged from the hospital, but the young girls remain in the hospital, and the 5-year-old is in critical condition. The female school worker is also in serious condition, according to The Irish Times. 
The suspect was reportedly stopped by a Brazilian delivery driver who was passing by the area on a moped when he witnessed the attack. The Brazilian man used his helmet to hit the knifeman, knocking him to the ground. The school worker is also being praised for her actions, protecting the children from the attacker as she sustained stab wounds.
Following the attack, reports began spreading on social media that the suspect was a foreign national, and anti-immigration protesters flooded the streets of Dublin, according to <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12785095/Get-Furious-Dubliners-drive-police-City-Centre-five-people-including-three-children-stabbed-unverified-rumours-swirl-suspect-foreign-national.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Mail</a>. Rioters reportedly ransacked a Foot Locker, a Holiday Inn Express hotel, and a McDonald’s in the city. Video showed looters breaking into buildings as fires raged on streets and police confronted the rioters.

Convicted murderer and former South African Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius, who competed with carbon fiber prosthetic legs, was granted early release and will go on parole in January. 
Pistorius was granted parole on Friday by the Department of Correctional Services in South Africa, which will go into effect on January 5, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/blade-runner-oscar-pistorius-granted-parole-10-years-killing-girlfriend-valentines-day">reported</a>. The sprinter, nicknamed “Blade Runner,” was convicted of murdering his girlfriend, 29-year-old model Reeva Steenkamp, after shooting her multiple times on Valentine’s Day morning in 2013. Pistorius was initially sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison for the slaying.
The sprinter gained popularity and fame after qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Pistorius was born without fibula bones, requiring doctors to amputate both of his legs when he was just 11 months old. He was the first amputee to <a href="https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/africa/athletic-legacy-the-first-amputee-to-win-able-bodied-track-medal-1.1927516">win</a> a world track medal among nondisabled participants at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and became the first double amputee to compete against able-bodied Olympians in 2012. 
Less than a year after shocking the world and competing in the Olympic Games, Pistorius fired four shots into a closed bathroom door at his Pretoria, South Africa, home, killing Steenkamp. Prosecutors argued that Pistorius shot Steenkamp, whom he had been dating for three months, in a fit of rage after the model had fled to the bathroom during an argument with the Olympian. Pistorius pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder and a gun charge, arguing that he mistakenly shot Steenkamp thinking she was an intruder. 
He was convicted of manslaughter in 2014 and sentenced to five years in prison, but that conviction was overturned by a higher court, and Pistorius’ conviction was changed to murder with his sentence increasing to six years. Prosecutors appealed the ruling, arguing the sentence was too lenient, and in 2017, the sprinter’s sentence was increased to 13 years and five months by South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeals, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/24/africa/oscar-pistorius-parole-intl/index.html">according</a> to CNN.

A report published this week <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/11/21/house-republicans-biden-impeachment-00128154" target="_blank" rel="noopener">by POLITICO</a> quoted multiple GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee — which would spearhead the drafting of any articles of impeachment — urging the chamber to move quickly toward a decision heading into <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2024-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2024</a>, which is a presidential election year in which Biden is seeking a second term in the White House.
“We understand that the further you go toward an election, the more politicized these conversations become. That’s why it’s all the more important for us to begin to take action sooner rather than later,” Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA), a member of the Judiciary Committee, told the news outlet. Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC), another member of that panel, added, “I think it needs to move with alacrity. I’ve always felt that we should be able to move faster. … But I do anticipate that it comes to Judiciary soon.&#8221;
The report also noted that Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jim-jordan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jim Jordan</a> (R-OH), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, predicted a decision would happen early in 2024 and said, &#8220;We can decide on whether or not there’s articles&#8221; after completing a series of depositions that lawmakers hope to complete in the coming weeks.

The House is narrowly controlled by Republicans, and Democrats are almost certain to vote in a bloc against any articles brought forward.

House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA), who took on the leadership role roughly one month ago, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/speaker-johnson-says-biden-impeachment-inquiry-has-reached-stage-for-key-witness-testimony" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> last week that he received a briefing from Comer and the other impeachment leaders on their progress.

There are not enough police in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/austin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Austin</a> to handle multiple major emergencies as a result of the 2020 movement to “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/defund-the-police" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defund the police</a>,” according to a new documentary from The Daily Caller.
The documentary, called “<a href="https://lawless.dailycaller.com/optin1693416044525?sl=dailywire">Lawless</a>,” examines the effects of the anti-police movement across the country in the wake of the death of George Floyd in May 2020. One of the cities Daily Caller investigators examined was Austin, Texas, where the city council <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2020/08/13/austin-city-council-cut-police-budget-defund/">voted</a> to cut the police budget by one third in August 2020 amid a wave of anti-police sentiment.
While Austin later voted to move funding back to the police department, it still faces massive staffing shortages and its chief of police <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/austin-police-chief-abruptly-retires-staffing-shortages-lack-police-union-contract" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resigned</a> in August. As of September, Austin <a href="https://www.kvue.com/article/news/police/new-austin-police-officers-sworn-in/269-99244b89-dcda-4133-9d32-4b2b457b094a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was at least</a> 300 officers short of full staff.
“We are not a city that can handle parallel critical incidents,” Matt Mackowiak, co-founder of Save Austin Now, told The Daily Caller. “If we get to a situation where we have a serious bank robbery in North Austin, and something happening at [Austin City Limits Music Festival] at the same time, we will not have enough police officers to respond to both incidents.”

A 26-year-old Christian man is in critical condition after being shot in the head while preaching to passersby on a street corner in Glendale, Arizona. 
Hans Schmidt was standing at the corner of a major intersection on Wednesday, telling people about a church service being held that evening, Fox 10 <a href="https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/man-seriously-injured-following-shooting-near-glendale-church" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. At around 6:00 p.m., a person shot the street preacher before fleeing the scene. Schmidt, a military veteran and father of two young children — including a two-month-old baby — was rushed to hospital where he is now fighting for his life. 
“My husband was shot in the head yesterday while street preaching on the corner of 51st Ave and Peoria If anyone has any info please contact 911,” Schmidt’s wife Zulya posted on Instagram. “Thank you for your prayers. Believing God has the final say. I love you so much babe.”

Victory Chapel, where Schmidt serves as the outreach director, posted an update about his situation on Thursday, saying that after he arrived at the ER, he “began seizing and was intubated.” 
“There has been some movement; however, physician&#8217;s are uncertain how much is voluntary and began draining fluid from his brain. He remains in critical condition, please continue praying,” the church <a href="https://www.vccf1phx.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Schmidt’s wife <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CzwGTh9LNOO/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> again on Instagram Friday morning, writing, “I love you my handsome cowboy. Keep fighting papi. We need you!!”  
Paul Sanchez, who works at a business close to where the shooting took place, said he saw some people drive by, screaming and cursing at Schmidt as he preached. 
“There was a lot of everything, really, hateful comments, people yelling at him, ‘get off the street,’ all sorts of mean things,” he <a href="https://www.azfamily.com/2023/11/16/man-critically-injured-after-shooting-glendale/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> 3TV and CBS 5 News. Sanchez added that he was shocked when the situation escalated since Schmidt never responded to anyone who yelled at him. 
Henry Branch, who lives near the intersection where Schmidt was shot, said he was stunned to learn of what happened. 
“Who knows why someone would want to take it out on a preacher like that because he’s speaking the gospel and good news to everybody. He’s out to help the community.” 
The Glendale Police Department continues to wait for witnesses to come forward with more information on the shooting.
&#8220;This is a horrible, horrible event. We have a 26-year-old who is a military man, who was recently married and has two small children. He&#8217;s in a critical state,&#8221; said Gina Winn of the Glendale Police Department. &#8220;We believe there is someone in the Valley who knows what happened. If you saw an individual or vehicle, you&#8217;re asked to call the Glendale Police Department.&#8221;
Police are still looking for a suspect and asking anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 623-930-3000 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. It remains unclear if Schmidt was shot by someone driving by in a car or a person who approached him on the street, 3TV and CBS 5 News reported.

New York City Democratic Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/eric-adams" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eric Adams</a> announced Thursday that his administration would be making significant cuts affecting NYPD and Education Department budgets, saying the cuts are necessary to deal with the ongoing illegal immigration crisis.
Adams’ budget cuts will freeze police hiring, dropping the number of NYPD officers to below 30,000, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/16/nyregion/nyc-budget-cuts-schools-police-trash.html">reported</a>. The budget cuts will also slash the city’s Education Department budget by more than $1 billion over the next two years, affecting school programs and libraries.
“No city should be left to handle a national humanitarian crisis largely on its own, and without the significant and timely support we need from Washington, D.C. Today’s budget will be only the beginning,” Adams said.
The move comes two days after Adams warned in a press conference that budget cuts to help deal with the illegal immigration crisis would be “extremely painful for New Yorkers,” adding, “In all my time in government, this is probably one of the most painful exercises I’ve gone through.”
The cuts to the NYPD come just a month after Adams <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nyc-mayor-says-city-needs-more-cops-with-force-down-more-than-2000-officers">said</a> the Big Apple needs more police officers as the city faces a rise in felony and misdemeanor assaults and car thefts.
Leftist Democrats slammed Adams for cutting funding for programs such as summer school and universal kindergarten.
“Mayor Adams’s unnecessary, dangerous and draconian budget cuts will only worsen New York’s affordability crisis and delay our city’s economic recovery by cutting funding for the schools, child care, food assistance and more that help New Yorkers live and raise families in this city,” said Lincoln Restler, a chair of the City Council’s progressive caucus, according to the Times.
New York City, which has a budget of $110 billion, is <a href="https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/politics/2023/08/09/city-on-track-to-spend--12-billion-on-migrants-without-federal--state-intervention">projected</a> to spend $12 billion providing food and shelter for illegal immigrants through the 2025 fiscal year, according to city officials. More than <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/migrant-encounters-at-border-last-month-mark-highest-october-on-record">130,000</a> illegal immigrants have arrived in the city since last year as Adams has repeatedly asked the Biden administration to better enforce immigration laws at the border and help the Big Apple provide assistance to the illegal immigrants who have made it to the city.

A news crew from the Czech Republic was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in San Francisco on Sunday as the team reported on the Asia-Pacific Economic Partnership (APEC) summit taking place in the city. 
Bohumil Vostal, a Czech TV journalist, was filming at San Francisco’s popular City Lights bookstore when masked criminals approached him and his team with guns pointed at them, The San Francisco Chronicle <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/apec-news-crew-czech-robbery-city-lights-18488613.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The armed assailants allegedly stole $18,000 worth of equipment that included the news crew’s entire footage from the day. 
“They were heading at my camera man, aiming a gun at his stomach, and one at my head,” Vostal said. 
“I’m one of those many people who used to read Jack Kerouac’s ‘On the Road,’ and I was so much looking forward to visit your city,” he added. 
The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that it is investigating an armed robbery that targeted a production team just before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, according to <a href="https://www.ktvu.com/news/foreign-tv-crew-robbed-while-covering-apec-summit-in-san-francisco" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KTVU</a>. Officers said three armed men got out of a vehicle that stopped on the street and approached a production crew, demanding their equipment. After robbing the production team, the assailants got back in the vehicle and fled the scene, the officers added. 
San Francisco Mayor London Breed&#8217;s office said the mayor met with the Czech news crew on Monday and assured them that the city would replace their stolen equipment, the Chronicle reported. Breed&#8217;s spokesman, Jeff Cretan, added that authorities are cracking down on crimes such as robberies that have plagued the city under Democrats&#8217; leadership.
Hundreds of foreign journalists have flocked to the Bay Area to cover the Asia-Pacific Economic Partnership summit as diplomats gather to discuss the future of the economy and trade in the region. “I know folks are saying, ‘Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming to town,&#8217;” Newsom said. “That’s true because it’s true — but it’s also true for months and months and months before APEC, we’ve been having conversations.”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/police" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Police</a> in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/detroit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Detroit</a> announced an arrest in last month&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/detroit-synagogue-president-found-stabbed-to-death-outside-her-home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fatal stabbing of a local synagogue leader</a>, but did not immediately identify the suspect.
Samantha Woll, the 40-year-old president of Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue, was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/detroit-synagogue-president-found-stabbed-to-death-outside-her-home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found dead</a> outside her home on the morning of October 21. An investigation has been going on ever since.
&#8220;As part of my continuing commitment to transparency in this matter, I am sharing with the community that a suspect has been taken into custody for the murder of Samantha Woll,&#8221; said Detroit Police Chief James White in an <a href="https://twitter.com/detroitpolice/status/1722343322537070860" target="_blank" rel="noopener">update posted to X</a> on Wednesday.
&#8220;While this is an encouraging development in our desire to bring closure for Ms. Woll’s family, it does not represent the conclusion of our work in this case,&#8221; White said, adding that the &#8220;details of the investigation will remain confidential at this time to ensure the integrity of the important steps that remain.&#8221;
He concluded by saying that investigators &#8220;will be continuing their work with the Wayne County Prosecutors Office until the conclusion of this investigation.&#8221;
Woll was killed at a time of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-beef-up-security-at-jewish-synagogues-across-u-s-after-hamas-attacks-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased concerns for the safety</a> of Jewish people in the United States and abroad as Israel went to war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the group launched terrorist attacks on Israeli soil on October 7 that killed an estimated <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-tech-conference-chief-resigns-after-israel-war-crimes-diatribes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1,400-plus people</a>.
Police previously shared how officers observed a &#8220;trail of blood leading officers to the victim’s residence&#8221; in the Lafayette Park neighborhood where they believed the crime took place.
In an update shortly after Woll was found fatally stabbed, White said at that time <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/detroit-police-give-update-on-fatal-stabbing-of-synagogue-leader" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no evidence</a> had &#8220;surfaced suggesting that this crime was motivated by antisemitism.&#8221;

The police chief&#8217;s latest statement on Wednesday did not make any mention of whether investigators have since found any evidence of anti-Semitism being a motivating factor.
Detroit police said &#8220;further updates regarding this case will be made at the appropriate time.&#8221;
Woll, who became a leader of the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2023/10/21/samantha-woll-dead-isaac-agree-downtown-detroit-synagogue-president/71271616007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in 2022</a>, had done work for high-powered Democrat officials from Michigan over the years and <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/columnists/attytood/samantha-woll-murder-peace-nixon-phillies-20231024.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advocated</a> for Jewish-Muslim solidarity.
Her funeral <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2023/10/22/slain-detroit-area-synagogue-leader-fought-for-everyone/71280857007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> drew hundreds of people from different faiths, races, and nationalities.

Four current and former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/los-angeles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Los Angeles Sheriff&#8217;s Department</a> employees have died by suicide over 24 hours in a shocking tragedy that has rocked the city&#8217;s law enforcement community.
Three current employees and one former employee died by suicide in a 24-hour span that began on Monday.
The first death was of Commander Darren Harris, who had served as the sheriff&#8217;s department&#8217;s chief spokesperson during his 25-year career. Harris was reportedly found dead in his Santa Clarita home Monday morning with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-11-07/four-current-and-former-l-a-sheriffs-department-employees-died-of-suicide-in-a-24-hour-span" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Later on Monday afternoon, authorities found the body of Sergeant Greg Hovland at his Quartz Hill home. Another employee was found dead just after sunset at a home in Stevenson Ranch. The next day, around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a fourth sheriff&#8217;s department employee was reported dead by suicide at a Pomona hospital. Sheriff’s homicide detectives responded to the scene.
Already this year, four other sheriff&#8217;s department employees had died by suicide, an agency spokesperson <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-11-07/four-current-and-former-l-a-sheriffs-department-employees-died-of-suicide-in-a-24-hour-span" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Sheriff Robert Luna said the department’s Homicide Bureau would investigate the deaths and urged deputies to check on each other in the wake of the deaths.
“We are stunned to learn of these deaths, and it has sent shock waves of emotions throughout the department as we try and cope with the loss of not just one, but four beloved active and retired members of our department family,” Luna <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-11-07/four-current-and-former-l-a-sheriffs-department-employees-died-of-suicide-in-a-24-hour-span" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Tuesday in a statement.
“During trying times like these it’s important for personnel regardless of rank or position to check on the well-being of other colleagues and friends,” the sheriff said.

Luna said the department is “urgently exploring avenues to reduce work stress factors to support our employees’ work and personal lives.” The sheriff added that the department’s Psychological Services Bureau and the Injury and Health Support Unit is working to provide counseling and other resources to the families of the officers.
Since the pandemic, many in law enforcement <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-police-hiring-crisis-is-gripping-u-s-cities-and-towns" target="_blank" rel="noopener">say</a> police departments have been suffering from flagging morale thanks to a wave of anti-police sentiment that peaked with the police killing of George Floyd in 2020. In some cases, city councils slashed police budgets, leaving some police chiefs feeling abandoned as they are stretched thin trying to keep residents safe.
Many police departments have also seen a mass exodus of officers over the last several years, along with difficulty hiring new officers.
