Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris">Kamala Harris</a> was torched by social media users on Friday after video surfaced of her presiding over the U.S. Senate and scrambling for the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.
In several clips posted on X from the swearing-in ceremony for new senators, Harris can be seen standing up and placing her hand over her heart as she called on members of the Senate to join her “in saying the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.”
While the first few words go smoothly, with her reciting, “I pledge allegiance…,” that’s as far as she gets before she messes up.
After Harris said the word &#8220;allegiance,&#8221; she added, “to the United States of America,” while everyone else in the chamber said the correct line, which is “to the flag of the United States of America.”

Harris’ flub didn’t escape users on X, who called her out as a “joke” and more for screwing up something many have recited since they were in kindergarten.
“Kamala just flubbed the Pledge of Allegiance while presiding over the Senate lmfao,” one person <a href="https://x.com/greg_price11/status/1875241976414810213">wrote</a>.
Another <a href="https://x.com/_johnnymaga/status/1875241394329239895">added</a>, “HOLY SMOKES. Kamala just screwed up the pledge of allegiance on the Senate floor. What an embarrassment to this country.”
A third <a href="https://x.com/nicksortor/status/1875242375548903909">wrote</a>, “LMAO! Kamala Harris just botched the Pledge of Allegiance on the Senate floor. What a joke.&#8221;
While a fourth <a href="https://x.com/libsoftiktok/status/1875243863197253862">added</a>, “OMG. Kamala just messed up saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank God [President-elect Donald] Trump won.”
Other <a href="https://x.com/Steve_Grin/status/1875248545881845945">comments</a> noted how Harris was just “a heartbeat away” from becoming the President of the United States during the final days of Joe Biden&#8217;s term.
Despite Donald Trump beating her for the presidency, some pundits have already suggested that the VP’s political career is far from over, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamala-is-a-young-politician-and-will-be-back-ex-adviser-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/symone-sanders">Symone Sanders</a>, who served as a senior adviser and chief spokeswoman to Harris before leaving the Biden administration and <a href="https://deadline.com/2022/01/symone-sanders-joins-msnbc-as-host-on-weekends-streaming-network-1234907220/">joining MSNBC</a>, said <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris">Harris</a> is a “young politician” who “will be back.”
“I don’t think the world has seen the last of Vice President Kamala Harris,” <a href="https://news.grabien.com/story/symone-sanders-kamala-harris-is-a-young-politician-who-garnered-over-7">Sanders said</a>. “I don’t know how she will show up again, but she is a young politician who garnered over 75 million votes in this election, and she will be back.”

A newly-elected city commissioner in Miami could not say the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pledge-of-allegiance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pledge of Allegiance</a> and had to be helped by the public.
Miami City Commissioner Sabina Covo, a Democrat, was just elected to the commission in a February 27 special election. During her first commission meeting on Thursday evening, Covo was asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance, but said she did not know it. The commission chairwoman and the public had to say the pledge without her.
A Twitter account called Because Miami posted a clip of the commission meeting Friday. In the clip, Commission Chairwoman Christine King said they would say the pledge of allegiance to open the meeting. &#8220;Commissioner Covo, could you lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, please,&#8221; she asked. What Covo says is inaudible, but King fills in the blank. &#8220;You don&#8217;t know it? Ok,&#8221; she says. The rest of the commission and city residents in the audience had to say the pledge for her.

Covo <a href="https://twitter.com/SabinaCovo/status/1634233953224671244" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> to the tweet late Friday morning. &#8220;Serving the people of Miami is the honor of a lifetime,&#8221; she wrote. &#8220;When you feel a responsibility is that important, nervousness is very normal, and I’m not afraid to admit that I was.&#8221;
&#8220;The oath and pledge I took to our nation and to the residents of District 2 is clear and I am focused on honoring my promise to get things done for our community,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;Which is why I am not focused on Twitter Talk &#8211; but rather on passing two very important pieces of legislation during my first commission meeting, including one that will provide affordable housing to foster youth. That’s leading through the very words in our Pledge of Allegiance and our promise to lead with ethics and integrity.&#8221;
Covo is an immigrant to the U.S. According to <a href="https://floridapolitics.com/archives/580071-media-pro-sabina-covo-enters-race-for-vacant-miami-commission-seat-calls-for-creative-all-encompassing-solutions-to-city-problems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floridapolitics.com</a>, the 43-year-old commissioner was born in Medellin, Colombia, but has lived in Miami for at least 22 years. She previously worked as a news reporter for Spanish-language news outlets. She also briefly served as director of Hispanic media relations and communications for former Democratic Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.
Residents and observers poked fun at the gaffe on Twitter.

&#8220;If saying the pledge of allegiance makes you nervous, how does taking care of the people in your district (50,000?) feel? Please,&#8221; wrote one user.
&#8220;Not focused on Twitter Talk she says while replying to Twitter talk,&#8221; another user pointed out.
&#8220;Did nerves also lead you to admit you don&#8217;t know the pledge?&#8221; a user opined. &#8220;A better reply in your tweet would be to admit that you forgot it instead of spin this. Yes, nerves are common, but 24 hrs later, your reply is steeped in politics. Why can&#8217;t politicians just be normal?&#8221;
Covo may not know the Pledge of Allegiance, but Democratic politicians in other states and cities are not saying it for different reasons. In August 2022, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/in-the-name-of-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-north-dakota-school-board-will-no-longer-recite-nations-pledge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fargo, North Dakota</a>, school board voted 7 – 2 to stop saying the pledge after board members complained that capitalized “God” was “non-inclusionary.”
In 2021, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/anti-american-disgrace-co-mayor-bans-reciting-u-s-pledge-at-meeting-attendees-say-it-anyway" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Silverton, Colorado</a>, Mayor Shane Fuhrman announced that the Pledge of Allegiance would no longer be said at the start of city trustee meetings because of the “general divisiveness” it allegedly created in the community. But attendees at the meeting immediately revolted and said the pledge anyway.

Goldberg weighed in first, saying, &#8220;This is the Judiciary Committee, right, so wouldn&#8217;t it be a better show of patriotism to be working on issues like police violence, mass shootings, prison reform?&#8221;
&#8220;You know, people, I don&#8217;t know what it&#8217;s gonna take for them to recognize that people don&#8217;t — they&#8217;re not — we&#8217;re not fooling around, and people in the United States are not fooling around,&#8221; Goldberg continued. &#8220;You wasted everybody&#8217;s time suggesting your people do what they already do. What is this waste of time?&#8221;
She went on to preemptively attack Fox News, claiming that instead of &#8220;doing their job,&#8221; they would probably attack her for doing hers: giving her opinion. She argued that is what is great about America — the fact that each person could still freely give an opinion and it didn&#8217;t matter whether anyone else liked it.
Hostin jumped in next, claiming that her problem with the whole situation was the &#8220;hypocrisy&#8221; of it all – and then cited an African American history course she took in college that disabused her of the belief in &#8220;American exceptionalism.&#8221;

Claiming that the Pledge of Allegiance &#8220;doesn&#8217;t apply to a lot of our citizens,&#8221; Hostin complained that America also &#8220;hasn&#8217;t met the dream of being exceptional. It hasn&#8217;t meant this dream of being a beacon on the hill.&#8221;
Hostin went on to note that the Supreme Court had ruled that people could not be forced to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, but said that wasn&#8217;t enough for her. Instead, she argued that schools should stop teaching the idea of American exceptionalism until the country had &#8220;met the promise&#8221; of what it could be.
Goldberg jumped back in then, complaining that America was supposed to be a place where people could &#8220;call out&#8221; the &#8220;isms&#8221; instead of allowing things like racism to persist — and claiming that people were becoming less free to do that.

Republicans who now constitute the majority on the House Judiciary Committee engaged in a war of words over the Pledge of Allegiance with the Democrats on the committee on Wednesday as the Democrats attempted to politicize the issue.
Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz offered an amendment allowing “inspirational constituents to share and lead in the Pledge of Allegiance,” an amendment Gaetz had attempted to get passed two years prior but was defeated by the Democrats on the committee.
Ranking member New York Democrat Rep. Jerrold Nadler remonstrated that the House already opened its meetings with a recitation of the Pledge, arguing, “I don’t know why we should pledge allegiance twice in the same day to show how patriotic we are.”
“I’m not seeing Mr. Nadler on the floor when the Pledge is done; most members are not present there, so it’s not accurate to say we do the Pledge every day or participate every day,” Mike Johnson (R-LA) snapped. “It may be offered, but we’re not there for it. This is the work of the Judiciary Committee; this is the committee that has charge of the Constitution, the fundamental freedoms, defending the very freedoms that the flag represents. It’s a bit absurd to suggest we couldn’t take 30 seconds at the beginning of this important work to do what should be done by all Americans. &#8230; I wish we had done this two years ago.”
Rep. David Cicilline, (D-RI), apparently trying to politicize the issue by citing January 6, then offered an amendment to the amendment saying, “Provided, however, the Pledge shall not be led by an individual who supported an insurrection against the government of the United States in any way.”
Gaetz fired back, “My concern would be if your definition of an insurrection is objecting to electors, then there would be many Democrats on the committee that wouldn’t be eligible to lead the Pledge &#8230; the last Republican to get sworn in absent Democratic objectors was George Herbert Walker Bush.”
Then Johnson addressed Cicilline and his cynical amendment directly, declaring, &#8220;I think it’s unfortunate that on the very first day, the adoption of the Rules package, by overly politicizing something that should not be politicized. You and I both know whether you want to acknowledge it here or not, this is about politics; this is a completely superfluous amendment; you’re making it political to try to make a point, and we get it. &#8230; I don’t think there’s any insurrectionist who’s going to show up to offer the Pledge and if they would they would not be recognized and so this completely unnecessary.&#8221;
He referenced North Carolina Democrat Deborah Ross quoting a SCOTUS decision that permitted school children to eschew saying the Pledge, reminding the committee that SCOTUS decisions had permitted the saying of a prayer before public meetings.
&#8220;We didn’t amend the rules to amend that, but gosh, I wish I’d have thought of it,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;Maybe we should amend the rules to begin with a prayer as well. That would really offend some of our friends on the other side. They have made the effort in the last couple of years to remove &#8216;under God&#8217; from the witness oath here that has been a tradition of the United States Congress for as long as anyone can remember. In fact, in our subcommittee, the subcommittee on the Constitution, the chair in the last Congress, Mr. Cohen … actually prohibited the swearing in of witnesses because I demanded as ranking member that they also say, &#8216;so help me God&#8217; at the end of their oath.&#8221;
&#8220;And so, it just goes to show you that there’s a strong contrast here between the two sides,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, we wish it weren’t so but there are two different parties represented here, two different philosophies, two completely different worldviews, and it’s on display here on the very first day, in the very first moment of the Judiciary Committee in the 118th Congress.&#8221;
Cicilline&#8217;s amendment was defeated. Despite the carping from Democrats, Gaetz’s amendment was passed unanimously.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">school board</a> in North Dakota has stopped saying the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/united-states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pledge of Allegiance</a> before meetings, claiming that the mention of the word &#8220;God&#8221; runs contrary to the principles of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/critical-race-theory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)</a>.
On Tuesday night, the Fargo, North Dakota, school board <a href="https://www.inforum.com/news/fargo/fargo-school-board-rescinds-motion-will-no-longer-recite-pledge-of-allegiance-at-meetings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voted</a> 7 &#8211; 2 to ditch the pledge after board members complained that capitalized &#8220;God&#8221; was &#8220;non-inclusionary.&#8221; The school board had previously begun reciting the pledge after it passed a motion on March 22 to start each meeting with it.
&#8220;Given that the word &#8216;God&#8217; in the text of the Pledge of Allegiance is capitalized,&#8221; board member Seth Holden said. &#8220;The text is clearly referring to the Judeo-Christian god and therefore, it does not include any other face [sic] such as Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, all of which are practiced by our staff and students at FPS.&#8221;
Holden claimed that it violated the aforementioned DEI principles.
Schoolboard President Tracie Newman suggested instead that the board find a different pledge to recite to foster unity.
&#8220;I&#8217;m just not sure that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is a useful way to begin every one of our board meetings,&#8221; Newman explained. &#8220;I would much prefer that we open our meetings with a shared statement of purpose that would bring us all together to do the work of the board.&#8221;
The school board&#8217;s website states, &#8220;Education is better where schools are composed of students, teachers, and families drawn from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, &#8216;races&#8217;/ethnicities, religions, and sexual orientations.&#8221;
To that extent, board member and immigrant Nyamal Dei stated, &#8220;We live in a diverse community and that is what matters,&#8221; while supporting the move to end saying the pledge.
One community member, David Paulson, spoke at the meeting in favor of keeping the pledge.
&#8220;We are misinterpreting the Pledge of Allegiance,&#8221; Paulson explained. &#8220;The pledge isn&#8217;t a show of our patriotism, it&#8217;s an affirmation of our commitment and our loyalty to the greater cause, and that greater cause is freedom.&#8221;
In reaction to the story, Ethan Harsell, a candidate for North Dakota&#8217;s state legislature, tweeted, &#8220;Disgusting. The Fargo School Board&#8217;s decision is an insult to the values of our Great Country and to everyone who has given their life to defend our liberties.&#8221;

On this Flag Day, let us remember the flag is a symbol–a blend of colors and images representing the majesty of the American republic and the fertility of freedom. Let us remember that we can love an imperfect nation, that our flag represents a nation forever striving and yearning, and that the spirit of America is not found on fabric but in the souls of its citizens.
I have two daughters. Both are beautiful and brilliant. Both are lovely human beings. And because they are my own children, neither of them will ever read this column.
My oldest daughter — who is home for the summer from her freshman year of college — and I occupy such different political universes that we have settled into an amicable détente. She knows the lingo of the Left and comfortably wades in its cerebral pools of utopian progressivism. She knows that the two of us would probably never really see eye to eye on issues related to the flag, standing for the national anthem, or patriotism in general. We are better off watching old episodes of “Downton Abbey” together. 
My younger daughter, on the other hand, is politically agnostic. She has no agenda or particular ideological bent. Politics rarely comes up in our conversations. Recently, however, she said something utterly fascinating about the flag salute, “I just wish it wasn’t an issue. I feel like I am making somebody angry no matter what I do. Stand. Sit. Someone is going to take it the wrong way.”
I agree with her. I wish it weren’t an issue, either. But how did we get to a place in our country where simply reciting the Pledge of Allegiance risks offense?   
Of course, an essential element of our freedom-loving society is that fidelity, loyalty, and adoration of country cannot be proscribed from above, either by legal fiat or constitutional directive. In the landmark Supreme Court decision, West Virginia v. Barnette &#8211; coincidentally released on Flag Day 1943 &#8211; the great Justice Robert Jackson eloquently explained, “If there is any fixed star in our constitutional constellation, it is that no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion, or force citizens to confess by word or act their faith therein. If there are any circumstances which permit an exception, they do not now occur to us.”
I agree. But here’s the rub. 
The United States is a nation committed to the principle of political and social pluralism — it’s explicit in Federalist No. 10, it’s implicit in the First Amendment, and it’s undeniable when one observes the rich mosaic of modern multicultural America. But in our zest to be different, to flout contrarianism with willful aplomb, we bump up against the fundamental problem of the American Experiment itself, which is the absence of a unifying mechanism of nationhood. 
Americans aren’t united by loyalty to a crown. We don’t worship the same God. There is no official national language &#8211; as far back as 1780 John Adams presented a bill making English the official language and was roundly rejected because it was considered an affront to individual liberty. The richness of our racial and religious tapestry is second to none in world history, begging the central question &#8211; what is left to unite us?
Everyone celebrates the Pluribus without end. But what about the Unum?  
This brings us to the American flag and my daughter’s observation. 
The words of the flag salute are instructive. Most of us focus on the first sentence alone, “I pledge allegiance to the flag.” 
In an era characterized by radical individualism and the proliferation of post-truth world-views, it’s not surprising that interpretation of the flag’s meaning is now considered a matter for each individual citizen to decide &#8211; some see freedom, some see oppression, and therefore some stand, some don’t.
But it is the second part of the sentence that is key, “and to the Republic for which it stands.”  
Allegiance to “the republic” is essential because it is a form of secular piety that acts as a national adhesive, a plebiscitary yoking mechanism. Just as Christians believe in both the Old and New Testaments, we Americans also orient our civic faith on two pillars: the lyrical idealism of the Declaration of Independence and the unionism of the American Constitution. Again and again, Lincoln stressed the need for Americans to bind themselves together through fidelity to these animating ideals. In the Gettysburg Address, he explained that nationhood is renewed through dedication to “a proposition,” and in the Lincoln Douglass debates he remarked, “I am nothing; Judge Douglas is nothing. But do not destroy that immortal emblem of Humanity – the Declaration of Independence.” In his First Inaugural Address, he appealed to “the mystic chords of memory.” 
There are precious few symbols and sacrosanct customs in American civic life today in which the body politic does what Lincoln stressed must be done for a free and diverse society to thrive and perpetuate itself. If we are not united by a common commitment to justice as provided by the American republic, if we do not have any allegiance to the institutions of our civil society providing for the common good, then who are “We The People?” What “Unites” the states?
My daughter’s unease stems from the recent and parasitic notion that any reverence for the American flag is somehow a gesture of indifference to modern injustice. For many well-intentioned Americans today, refusing to honor the flag is not a well-informed protest, but instead a form of aggrievement by proxy, a general sense that large swathes of the country are fundamentally mistreated by design and with intent. 
On this Flag Day let us remember that a flag is a symbol, a blend of colors and images that represents the majesty of the American republic and the fertility of freedom. Let us remember that a good and meaningful life requires the wise and judicious exercise of this God-given freedom. And most of all, let us remember that we can love an imperfect nation, that our flag represents a nation forever striving and yearning, and that the spirit of America is not found on fabric but in the souls of its citizens.

A supposed constituent of an Iowa state representative left a vituperative phone message in which she excoriated him for his support of the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, ranting, “When did we start teaching white nationalism in schools?… You&#8217;re focusing on the f***ing Pledge of Allegiance? Get the f*** out of here!”
Iowa State Rep. Carter Nordman had pushed to get <a href="https://iowatorch.com/2021/05/21/iowa-schools-pledge-of-allegiance-carter-nordman/">language included</a> in <a href="https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/BillBook?ga=89&amp;ba=HF847">HF 847</a> — which Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed into law — that required all Iowa schools to lead the Pledge of Allegiance once a day in grades 1-12.
“<a href="https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/BillBook?ga=89&amp;ba=hf415">House file 415</a> – which became law when it passed as an amendment to a larger piece of legislation – requires Iowa public schools to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and show the U.S. flag at least once daily. Lawmakers wrote the bill after realizing that Iowa was one of a few states that did not already require a recitation of the pledge,” <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/caller-blasts-iowa-rep-for-requiring-white-nationalist-pledge-of-allegiance-in-schools">Fox News</a> noted.
HF 847 <a href="https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/BillBook?ga=89&amp;ba=HF847">states</a>:
<blockquote>The board of directors of each public school district shall administer the pledge of allegiance in grades one through twelve each school day. Each classroom in which the pledge of allegiance is recited pursuant to this subsection shall display the United States flag during the recitation. A student shall not be compelled against the student&#8217;s objections or those of the student&#8217;s parent or guardian to recite the pledge.</blockquote>
The caller ranted:
<blockquote>Yes. This message is for Carter Nordman. My understanding that you are the Iowa state representative who included language that requires all Iowa schools to lead the Pledge of Allegiance once a day in grades one through twelve.
When did we start teaching white nationalism in schools? Because that&#8217;s exactly what the f*** you&#8217;re doing, sir, and you have absolutely no right to require something like that. Our children aren&#8217;t proud to be American. Maybe the white suburban kids out in Adel are proud to be American because their rights are afforded to them every day and they don&#8217;t have to fight for them. But for the rest of us, who are women, the poor, the elderly, the minorities, we&#8217;re not f***ing proud. What are we proud of? We&#8217;re proud of our racist history? We&#8217;re proud of our racist roots?
Is that what we&#8217;re proud of? We&#8217;re proud of the fact that not all citizens in the United States are afforded the same rights and the same privileges as the blond-haired blue-eyed ones? That&#8217;s a bunch of colonizer bulls***, Carter. And the fact that you&#8217;re f***ing perpetuating that is disgusting. Keep that s*** in the suburbs. You want to teach your kids to be a white nationalist, you can f***ing do it. But you and Kim Reynolds are f***ing disgusting, and you have absolutely no right to require that public schools teach children to be U.S. nationalists. F*** you and f*** this legislation.

Nordman told Fox News, “I called her back and said I’d be willing to discuss the bill. She told me that she had said everything she wanted to tell me in her voicemail and she hung up on me. Our conversation was all of 25 seconds.” He added his reasons for sharing the voicemail:
<blockquote>I thought it was important to show what we are up against. Some people have a lot of hatred for this country and have a lot of hatred for what the United States stands for. I think the Pledge of Allegiance can unite us all and do a lot of good for everybody, regardless of your race, your gender, your religion, your sexuality. 
I believe that the far Left will attach the words “White nationalism” to anything. I&#8217;m not saying that all Democrats are anti-American values. They&#8217;re not. It doesn’t make sense to call the Pledge of Allegiance “White nationalism.” I’m not sure what the Pledge of Allegiance has to do with race. Our flag clearly does not stand for racism; it does not stand for discrimination. </blockquote>

‘You’re Focusing On The F***ing Pledge Of Allegiance? Get The F*** Out Of Here!’ Woman Berates Iowa State Rep

A Colorado mayor received instant pushback after announcing a ban on the Pledge of Allegiance at a trustee meeting last week.
Silverton Mayor Shane Fuhrman announced during a meeting on June 14 that the Pledge of Allegiance would no longer be said at the start of every meeting because of the “general divisiveness” the pledge apparently created in the Silverton community.
“Due to direct and indirect threats, inappropriate comments in and out of public meetings and general divisiveness and issues created in our community, we will not be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance during Town of Silverton trustee meetings,” Fuhrman said, according to <a href="https://kdvr.com/news/silverton-nixes-pledge-of-allegiance-at-town-hall-meetings/">Fox 31</a>.
Immediately, Silverton Trustee Molly Barela spoke up challenging Fuhrman’s decision.
“If you’d like to find somewhere in the code, something that doesn’t permit me to do this, then I welcome that discussion at our next meetings,” the mayor responded.
Attendees at the meeting revolted against the mayor’s decision after one woman asked if she could “make a comment,” according to video of the meeting. The woman began to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, prompting others to join in and drown out several objections.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tweeted out a clip of the meeting along with a call for Fuhrman to resign.
“Silverton, CO’s Mayor unilaterally banned the Pledge of Allegiance at city meetings. It’s hard to put into words what kind of anti-American disgrace this is,” Boebert said. “Mayor Fuhrman should resign and purchase a one-way ticket to China where he won’t have worry about hearing the pledge!”

After the meeting, Barela issued a statement to Fox 31 explaining that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance has been an issue with the mayor for over a year. Furhman first tried to have the pledge banned during meetings in April of last year, according to Barela. Barela said:
<blockquote>Back in April 2020 when the newest board members were seated the mayor brought it up that he didn’t want to do the Pledge of Allegiance anymore because it’s not really a thing, it was a 4/3 vote that we continue to do it. By going back to in person meetings it changes the dynamic compared to what was happening on zoom. While on zoom the three individuals who chose not to say the Pledge of Allegiance would just turn off their cameras now that we’ve gone back to in person meetings members of the general population especially those who are veterans have been questioning why would you run for office and take an oath to uphold the laws of the United States of America the state of Colorado and the town of Silverton if you won’t stand for the pledge. Members of the public have told them that they should be ashamed of themselves. I personally didn’t like his unilateral decision, when we as a collective group had already decided over a year ago to continue to do the pledge, I don’t know if it was premeditated to have it done on Flag Day, which we all know that was declared June 14, 1777 by the second continental Congress, now mayor Shane Fuhrman has made this first amendment right issue. To tell members of the public they are not allowed to say the Pledge of Allegiance during public comment and threaten to have them removed that it was a one strike in you’re out policy violates every single one of their first amendment rights.</blockquote>

‘Anti-American Disgrace’: CO Mayor Bans Reciting U.S. Pledge At Meeting. Attendees Say It Anyway

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (FL) on Thursday requested the Judiciary Committee recite the Pledge of Allegiance together to kick off each hearing, suggesting the move would help provide some unity within Congress and pride during these divisive times.
Democratic House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (NY) dismissed the request as &#8220;unnecessary,&#8221; telling Gaetz that lawmakers already say the pledge once a day.
&#8220;I understand and appreciate the significance and importance of the work that we do, and I just think it would be nice, if in the spirit of national unity and national pride, which I know we all aspire to do to a greater extent, that the beginning of each meeting, the chair, or one of the designees of the chair, would have the opportunity to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance,&#8221; Gaetz requested.
&#8220;We&#8217;re all aware that in these times it&#8217;s important for the country to see the members of Congress working together on some things,&#8221; the Republican continued, &#8220;and while I know that we can deal with divisive issues in the committee, it would be my hope that we could start every committee with a great unifying patriotic moment.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s unnecessary,&#8221; Nadler <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/gaetz-judiciary-meetings-pledge-nadler-were-covered">told</a> Gaetz. &#8220;The House begins every day with the Pledge of Allegiance; we&#8217;re covered by that.&#8221;
As <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/gaetz-judiciary-meetings-pledge-nadler-were-covered">noted</a> by Fox News, the House has kicked off with the pledge as part of its daily order of business since 1988.
&#8220;It’s not in our practice to do so,&#8221; Nadler said of saying the pledge more than once a day, adding, &#8220;I appreciate the gentleman&#8217;s suggestion, but we are covered by the House. We all say the Pledge of Allegiance every day.&#8221;
As the nation has become increasingly divided, generally unifying acts of patriotism, such as standing for the national anthem, have, too, become a partisan issue.
Back in 2016, then-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick politicized the anthem when he refused to stand over alleged anti-black racism in the United States. Now, the protest has spilled into other sports, such as professional basketball and women&#8217;s soccer.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick <a href="http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/08/27/kaepernick-refuses-to-show-pride-in-a-country-that-oppresses-black-people/">told</a> Steve Wyche of NFL Media at the start of his protest, back in 2016. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
“This is not something that I am going to run by anybody,” he continued. “I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. &#8230; If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right.”

Matt Gaetz Requests Pledge Of Allegiance Before Hearings; Nadler Shoots Him Down

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden appeared to botch the words to America&#8217;s Pledge of Allegiance on Monday, drawing widespread mockery online.
&#8220;I don’t pledge allegiance to red states of America or blue states of America, I pledge allegiance to the United States of America. One nation, indivisible under God. For real,&#8221; Biden said in a clip shared online. &#8220;I’m running as a proud Democrat, but I’m not going to govern as a Democratic president, I’m going to govern as president.&#8221;
The Pledge of Allegiance states:

After the clip went viral, fact-checkers came to Biden&#8217;s defense, pointing out that the Democratic nominee wasn&#8217;t necessarily attempting to repeat the entire pledge. The clip and criticism is lacking &#8220;<a href="https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2020/09/fact-check-joe-biden-did-not-botch-the-pledge-of-allegiance.html">context</a>,&#8221; as Lead Stories puts it:
<blockquote>Did Joe Biden completely botch the Pledge of Allegiance during a campaign speech? No, that&#8217;s not true and the comments were taken out of context. GOP rapid response director Steve Guest claimed that Biden &#8220;completely botches&#8221; the pledge during a campaign speech in a tweet that went viral. The Democratic nominee for president was criticizing Donald Trump and saying he would be a president for all of the people, not just people that live in blue or red states, and used the words from the Pledge of Allegiance to make his point, but he was not reciting the pledge.</blockquote>
This is not the first time that Biden has come under fire for reciting important statements from American tradition.
Earlier this month, a top press secretary for Biden erupted in anger &#8220;after he was asked during a live television interview if Biden has been using a teleprompter to answer questions during media interviews,&#8221; The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-biden-campaign-erupts-refuses-to-answer-if-biden-using-teleprompter-during-live-interviews">reported</a>. &#8220;The segment is especially newsworthy because Biden has faced repeated questions about his mental fitness for office, and the Trump campaign has continually highlighted instances in which Biden appears to be using a teleprompter to answer questions during interviews.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s worth <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnns-brian-stelter-responds-to-questions-about-bidens-mental-fitness-he-can-ride-a-bicycle">noting</a> that <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/09/13/cory_booker_on_bidens_state_of_mind_there_are_times_you_listen_to_him_and_just_wonder.html">numerous</a> <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/video/-are-you-forgetting-what-you-said-two-minutes-ago-castro-calls-out-biden-68827717777">Democrats</a>, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B8sB7OW2bQ">progressives</a>, and <a href="https://jacobinmag.com/2020/03/joe-biden-gaffes-democratic-presidential-campaign-trump">left-wing</a> publications have also questioned Biden’s mental fitness for office,&#8221; the report added. &#8220;Biden, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-biden-i-am-constantly-tested-for-cognitive-decline">said</a> a couple of months ago that he was ‘constantly tested’ for cognitive decline, walked those claims back last week, denying that he had been tested for cognitive decline and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-walks-back-claims-on-taking-cognitive-test-rambles-about-cocaine-during-bizarre-interview">saying</a>, ‘Why the hell would I take a test?’&#8221;
Washington Post columnist Mark Thiessen <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/03/12/its-fair-speculate-whether-biden-is-mentally-fit-be-president/">highlighted</a> just a few of Biden’s recent struggles:
<blockquote>There is plenty of cause for concern. Biden recently announced “<a href="https://dailycaller.com/2020/03/09/biden-democrats-win-back-house/">I think we can win back the House</a>” and promised to ban the “<a href="https://www.mediaite.com/politics/joe-biden-mocked-for-ranting-about-ar-14s-to-detroit-auto-worker/">AR-14</a>.” He mistook Super Tuesday for “Super Thursday,” and forgot the words of the Declaration of Independence, saying “We hold these truths to be self-evident. He earlier described meeting a Navy captain in Afghanistan, but The Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/as-he-campaigns-for-president-joe-biden-tells-a-moving-but-false-war-story/2019/08/29/b5159676-c9aa-11e9-a1fe-ca46e8d573c0_story.html?noredirect=on&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_7" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a> that “almost every detail in the story appears to be incorrect.” He claimed to have worked with Chinese leader “<a href="https://nypost.com/2020/02/25/biden-says-he-worked-on-2016-climate-accord-with-leader-who-died-in-1997/">Deng Xiaoping</a>” on the Paris Climate Accord (Deng died in 1997)/. He claimed during a debate that “<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/south-carolina-democratic-debate-full-transcript-text/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">150 million people have been killed [by guns] since 2007</a>” (which would be nearly half the U.S. population). He said <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/11/politics/joe-biden-parkland-victims/index.html">he met with Parkland victims while he was vice president</a> even though the shooting took place after he left office. He has declared that Democrats should “<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/08/09/joe-bidens-mounting-slip-ups-why-they-matter/?tid=lk_inline_manual_14&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_14&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_7">choose truth over facts</a>” and that <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/biden-tells-minority-voters-in-iowa-that-poor-kids-are-just-as-bright-as-white-kids/2019/08/09/4926be02-ba8e-11e9-a091-6a96e67d9cce_story.html?tid=lk_inline_manual_14&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_14&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_7">“poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”</a> He pledged to use biofuels to power <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/news/dispatch/why-joe-bidens-gaffes-matter">“steamships.”</a> He repeatedly gets <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/andrewkaczynski/4-times-joe-biden-couldnt-remember-what-state-he">confused about what state he is in</a>; called “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace “<a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/media/485362-biden-refers-to-chris-wallace-as-chuck-during-fox-news-interview">Chuck</a>”; said his late son Beau “<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/joe-biden-beau-biden-attorney-general">was the attorney general of the United States</a>”; and <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/08/09/joe-bidens-mounting-slip-ups-why-they-matter/?tid=lk_inline_manual_14&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_14&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_7">confused</a> former British prime minister Theresa May with the late British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
Any one of these gaffes in isolation would be nothing more than that. But taken together they form a pattern – and raise questions about whether Biden has experienced a cognitive decline. Biden’s defenders say this is unfair, and some have even suggested raising it <a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/was-joe-biden-the-victim-of-an-ageist-attack-at-the-democratic-debate-2019-09-13">is ageism</a>. No, it’s not. His socialist rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is 78 — almost a year older than Biden — yet no one is questioning his mental fitness. On Monday night, Sanders spent an hour at a Fox News town hall where he was challenged to defend his policies and answered in great detail and without any gaffes or senior moments. Could Biden do the same?</blockquote>

Madison Cawthorn, 25, the young GOP candidate for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District, spoke Wednesday at the Republican National Convention from his wheelchair, as he has been paralyzed since the age of 18 from a car accident. At the end of his speech, Cawthorn, with the help of two men on either side of him, slowly rose to his feet to recite a brief portion of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Cawthorn standing to recite the Pledge was enough for PBS journalist Yamiche Alcindor to criticize him on Twitter, writing, “Madison Cawthorn made it a point to stand, suggesting that all Americans to (sic) should stand during the pledge of allegiance &amp; national anthem. It was a direct rebuke of actions by ppl &#8212; including black athletes who are currently sitting out games &#8212; protesting police brutality.&#8221;

Cawthorn began by mentioning the terrible car accident that robbed him of the use of his legs, saying, “Instantly, my hopes and dreams were seemingly destroyed. I was given a 1% chance of surviving. But thanks to the power of prayer, a very loving community, and many skilled doctors, I made it.&#8221;
&#8220;My accident has given me new eyes to see and new ears to hear. God protected my mind and my ability to speak, so I say to people who feel forgotten, ignored, and invisible: I see you. I hear you,&#8221; Cawthorn stated.
He continued, &#8220;In times of peril, young people have stepped up and saved this country, abroad and at home. We held the line, scaled the cliffs, crossed oceans, liberated camps, and cracked codes. Yet today, political forces want to usher in the digital dark ages. A time of information without wisdom and tribalism without truth. National leaders on the Left have normalized emotion-based voting and a radicalized identity politics that rejects Martin Luther King’s dream. MLK’s dream is our dream: for all Americans to be judged solely on their character.&#8221;
&#8220;I say to Americans who love our country, young and old: be a radical for freedom. Be a radical for liberty,&#8221; Cawthorn urged.
Rising to his feet, Cawthorn stated, “And be a radical for our Republic, for which I stand; one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

President Trump slammed the Democratic Party on Sunday for starting two caucus meetings during last week’s convention with the Pledge of Allegiance minus the words “under God.”
At least two speakers who led auxiliary events during the virtual Democratic National Convention <a href="http://dailywire.com/news/watch-dnc-caucuses-omit-under-god-from-the-pledge-of-allegiance">omitted “under God”</a> from the pledge. The words were not omitted during several recitals of the pledge during main convention events, however.
“Two Democrat Caucus Meetings removed &#8216;UNDER GOD&#8217; from the Pledge of Allegiance. It sounded not only strange, but terrible. That’s where they’re coming from!” Trump tweeted on Sunday morning.

Trump later tweeted out a White House video of a speech he gave on July 6, 2017, in Warsaw, Poland, commemorating the Warsaw Uprising of 1944.

The president claimed on Saturday that the Democratic Party had taken the words “under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance, sparking several media outlets to issue fact-checks rating his claim false since the edited versions of the pledge were only recited during caucus meetings, while the convention’s central, televised events featured the full version.
“The Democrats took the word GOD out of the Pledge of Allegiance at the Democrat National Convention. At first I thought they made a mistake, but it wasn’t. It was done on purpose. Remember Evangelical Christians, and ALL, this is where they are coming from-it’s done. Vote Nov 3!” Trump said.
Two Democratic delegates did alter the pledge. Delegate A.J. Durrani omitted “under God” from his remarks during the Muslim Delegates and Allies Assembly caucus meeting. The delegate leader for the LGBTQ caucus meeting omitted the phrase as well.
The Democratic National Convention stirred more controversy when former Women’s March leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/absolutely-our-party-democrats-embrace-linda-sarsour-at-national-convention">Linda Sarsour</a> spoke at the Muslim Delegates and Allies Assembly meeting. Sarsour has a history of making anti-Semitic remarks as well as supporting the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions (BDS) movement to cut off international support and aid to Israel.
“The Democratic Party is not perfect, but it is absolutely our party in this moment,” Sarsour said in part of her afternoon address on Tuesday.
The progressive group Women’s March, of which Sarsour was a longtime member and leader, cut ties with her and two other board members last year amid controversy over their anti-Semitic remarks.
The campaign of former Vice President Joe Biden, who accepted the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday, <a href="http://dailywire.com/news/joe-biden-condemns-linda-sarsour-after-she-speaks-at-dnc">condemned Sarsour’s appearance</a> at the convention over her past anti-Semitic comments and stances.
“Joe Biden has been a strong supporter of Israel and a vehement opponent of anti-Semitism his entire life, and he obviously condemns her views and opposes BDS, as does the Democratic platform,” campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said. “She has no role in the Biden campaign whatsoever.”
Bates also pointed to the Democratic Party platform, which explicitly opposes the BDS movement: “We oppose any effort to unfairly single out and delegitimize Israel, including at the United Nations or through the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement.”
