On the surface, Pierre Poilievre’s recent appearance on the Joe Rogan <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtbGgSwuE_U">podcast</a> had more good than bad. The Conservative leader came across as likable, down-to-earth, and clear. He stressed the need to unleash Canada’s energy potential. He called for cutting regulations that have suppressed innovation. He pushed for lower government spending. These are all sound ideas and Canada would surely benefit from them.
But one key moment showed the real substance of Poilievre’s platform: empty individualism. This view defines human dignity as absolute self-expression. It not only cheapens human life, it weakens the institutions that support Canadian culture.
The moment happened when Rogan critiqued the current state of Canada’s euthanasia program.
Rogan expressed a reasonable concern. He noted that <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0j1z14p57po">1 in 20</a> Canadian deaths now come from so-called assisted suicide or Medical Aid in Dying (MAID). Poilievre replied that he believes people should “have the choice” to be euthanized. His main concern was the idea that it would be offered to kids or to people whose only condition is mental illness.
In other words, his issue is not with Canada’s current euthanasia rules. His issue is only with suggestions that have not yet become law.
Canada’s euthanasia regime is abhorrent, with or without amendments. Track 2 euthanasia lets individuals apply for MAID based on an incurable physical condition. This includes a disability. The Atlantic recently <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2025/0">published</a> a piece on the ethical and practical questions facing “providers.” A more accurate word would be deprivers. These providers must interpret euthanasia rules on their own. One story described a doctor who euthanized a man in his 30s. The man had a treatable form of cancer, but he had refused all other treatment. This made his condition “irremediable.”
Human dignity should be the first commitment of any conservative. Poilievre often touts individual rights. Yet he ignores the most fundamental one: the right to life. To say someone has an intrinsic right means they possess it simply because of who they are. It does not depend on what they do.
But Poilievre’s willingness to allow euthanasia for those who are suffering and dying sends a clear message. It says the value of human life depends on personal judgment.
His criticism of euthanasia for the mentally ill is confusing. If people should have a “freedom” to die on their terms — in Canada that includes the terminally ill, disabled, and chronically sick — why must those symptoms be physical? In fact, we know they often are not.
Stories abound of individuals struggling with depression who have applied for MAID. One <a href="https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/kiano-vafaeian-medical-assistance-in-dying">example</a> is 26-year-old Kiano Vafaeian. He was struggling with vision loss and depression.
At the heart of Poilievre’s blunder on euthanasia is a false understanding of human dignity. Ironically, it is the same understanding that drives the woke excesses of the Liberal elite. They see dignity as absolute self-expression. This empty individualism separates life’s meaning from the broader context of nature, community, and tradition.
When applied to culture, this leads to a cheapening of human life. It is no surprise that places that legalize assisted suicide see an increase in overall suicide rates. Chosen or not, Poilievre fails to understand one key point. Euthanasia is a symptom of a sick, depressed, and lonely culture.
A culture that is killing itself is not going to be saved by lower housing costs. Economic prosperity can certainly help but it is not the sole solution.

Poilievre’s wholesome vision for Canada is admirable. He wants a future where families enjoy the fruit of their labor without government interference. Ideally, they live in a white-picket-fenced home that they can afford. But this vision is unachievable without cultural renewal. The expressive individualism of the Liberal and Conservative elites will not deliver that renewal.
Canadian culture is not only suicidal it is also sterile. Nearly <a href="https://globalnews.ca/news/11638221/canada-ultra-low-fertility/">one in four</a> Canadian women in their 40s have no kids. Last year, Poilievre was absurdly <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/pierre-poilievre-biological-clock-1.7499220">reprimanded</a> by Liberal MPs. They criticized him for recognizing that unaffordable housing causes couples to run out of time to start families before their “biological clocks” expire. The idea that government should be completely impartial to marriage and fertility rates is ludicrous.
These rates can give a glimpse into the hope people place in their future. Economic strain can suppress this hope and so can a nihilistic culture that has cheapened human life. The family is not merely an economic unit. It is a legacy-making enterprise. A culture that sees no value in life beyond individual expression makes the self-sacrificial reality of marriage seem absurd.
Unlike Poilievre, a true conservative recognizes that dignity is not rooted in our personal judgment. It is intrinsic to who we are. Our identity should be understood in reference to the people, institutions, and traditions that shape us. We should seek economic prosperity. But we should not seek it at the cost of the integrity of those institutions.
Poilievre has an impressive ability to explain those institutions. One of the best moments from the podcast was his explanation of the Westminster tradition, which is deeply connected to Canada’s British heritage.
What Poilievre takes for granted is this: hopelessness grows when people feel isolated. Yet the political elite — both Conservative and Liberal — expect the average Canadian to accept this isolation without complaint. Canada has some of the highest immigration rates per capita in the world. Conservatives claim to support assimilation into Canadian culture but they lack the ability to identify and preserve what is exemplary of that culture.
At Confederation, Canadian culture wasn’t divorced from a broader religious and moral consensus. It was founded against the backdrop of a predominantly Christian society. The 1871 census showed over <a href="https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/cambridge-history-of-religions-in-america/religion-in-canada-18671945/3AA29A820C78AB35B6F22D2F4F763E65">98%</a> of the population as Christian. All 36 Fathers of Confederation were raised in a Christian tradition. This included Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism, and Presbyterianism. Yet Poilievre’s policies, especially on immigration, fail to take this into account. His view is that anyone can “become” Canadian. He defines it loosely as a belief in “freedom.” This view will not produce the assimilation needed for cultural unity. It will lead Canada further down the path of cultural decay.
Does this mean that people of non-Christian faiths should not come to Canada? Not at all. But it does mean that policymakers should protect the shared morality, customs, and traditions passed down from the time of Confederation. They should make judgments on immigration policy with prudence. They should keep the interests of Canadians in mind. Those interests should not be measured only in economic output. They should include cultural unity.
Poilievre’s discussion was typical of the decades-long drift of the Conservative establishment. It has moved toward a “balancing the budget” style of liberalism. This style redefines human dignity. It has cheapened human life. It has undermined the family. It has squandered Canada’s cultural inheritance. It has failed.
Moving forward, the Conservatives should let their party’s name guide their ideology. Canadians do not just want lower costs, they want flourishing families. They want a unified nation and a culture of hope. That is the true mission of conservatism. The Conservative establishment would do well to remember it.

OTTAWA (Reuters) — The leader of Canada&#8217;s official opposition Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre, secured a return to Parliament and a chance to grill Prime Minister Mark Carney over U.S. tariffs, staging a comeback after unexpectedly losing his seat in an April election.
Unofficial results from Elections Canada on Tuesday showed Poilievre had easily won a special election on Monday in the parliamentary constituency of Battle River-Crowfoot in the western Canadian province of Alberta, a Conservative stronghold. Poilievre secured about 80% of the vote, according to Elections Canada.
Poilievre, who accuses the Liberal government of botching its handling of U.S. relations, will be able to confront Carney when the House of Commons returns on September 15.
Carney, who took over as prime minister in March, secured a strong minority government in April&#8217;s federal election, while Poilievre lost the Ottawa-area seat he had held for 21 years.
Carney won on a promise to stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump but has since moderated his approach even as Washington imposed more tariffs.
&#8220;Mark Carney has been failing. He&#8217;s failed, he&#8217;s backed down, he&#8217;s made concession after concession vis-a-vis the Americans,&#8221; Poilievre told a press conference last Thursday.

Carney, however, is in no immediate danger politically. Although the Liberals fell three seats short of a majority in April, they should be able to rely on the support of smaller parties to survive confidence votes.
A Nanos Research poll earlier this month put the Liberals at 44% popular support compared with 33% for the Conservatives.
Carney has pulled the Liberals more to the center, and Poilievre will find it harder to draw a sharp contrast, said pollster Nik Nanos, CEO of Nanos Research.
&#8220;Poilievre needs to articulate what he learned from the last federal election and how his government would be different than a Carney government,&#8221; he said via email.
At the start of the year, the Conservatives looked set for a crushing election victory over the Liberals of then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who were far behind in polls after more than nine years in power.
But Liberal fortunes soared after Trudeau announced he was stepping down and Trump began threatening Canada with tariffs and annexation.

Canada&#8217;s Conservative party has narrowed the gap with Prime Minister Mark Carney&#8217;s ruling Liberals to only 3.6 percentage points, just four days before Monday&#8217;s national election.
According to a rolling three-day CTV News-Globe and Mail-Nanos poll, the Liberals hold 42.9% support with the Conservatives at 39.3%.
The 3.6-point gap has narrowed significantly from 5.6 points just a day earlier, a significant momentum shift toward opposition leader Pierre Poilievre&#8217;s campaign focused on economic concerns and public safety under Liberal governance.
&#8220;We can&#8217;t afford a fourth Liberal term of rising costs and crime,&#8221; Poilievre <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-election-race-tightens-conservatives-narrow-gap-with-liberals-poll-says-2025-04-24/">told</a> reporters in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Thursday, pledging to scrap electric-vehicle sales mandates, per Reuters.
His campaign has emphasized domestic issues, while Carney has focused heavily on U.S. tariffs and potential “threats” posed by President Trump.
Paul Thomas, a professor emeritus at the University of Manitoba, suggests the polls may be tightening because of the &#8220;diminished sense of crisis&#8221; regarding relations between the United States and Canada.
He noted that voters&#8217; focus appears to be shifting back to cost-of-living concerns, while Poilievre&#8217;s softening of his campaign tone may also be attracting support.
The Conservative surge follows the release of the party&#8217;s extensive platform and the two candidates’ debates last week.
In recent years, Canada has implemented a federal carbon tax, stricter gun control measures, and substantially increased immigration targets – policies that opposition parties argue have contributed to the country&#8217;s cost-of-living crisis.
While Carney has made United States relations the centerpiece of his campaign, his rhetoric in recent weeks has become increasingly dramatic in an attempt to exploit the fear of American overreach that many Canadians appear to have.
“In this crisis, we have to prepare for America’s threats to our very sovereignty. Even with a popular vote victory, pollsters caution that the Liberals might secure only a minority government, leaving Carney dependent on smaller parties to govern.
The New Democratic Party, currently polling at 7.2%, could become the kingmaker in a closely contested parliament.
This shift, combined with the Conservative Party&#8217;s recently released detailed economic plan, appears to be resonating with voters concerned about domestic issues.
The election represents a clear contrast between Carney&#8217;s focus on external threats and international relations versus Poilievre&#8217;s emphasis on so0-called kitchen table economic concerns.

Carney, who has led the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, easily secured the win, taking 86% of the vote during the Liberal Party election. During his victory speech, Carney took shots at President Donald Trump and claimed that America wanted to destroy Canada’s way of life. 
“America is not Canada. And Canada never, ever, will be part of America in any way, shape or form,” Carney <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/09/canadas-liberals-pick-mark-carney-to-replace-justin-trudeau-00220148">said</a>. “We didn’t ask for this fight, but Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves.”
Since becoming president, Trump has suggested that Canada could become America&#8217;s 51st state and levied a series of tariffs against the country. 
&#8220;Canada will not bow down to a bully. We won’t stand by as illegal U.S. tariffs hurt our workers and their families. As Canadians, we need to face this challenge as one united team,&#8221; Carney <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/mark-carney-wins-liberal-party-nomination-replace-trudeau-canadas-next-pm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. He added that the Americans would “destroy our way of life” if they succeeded in getting “our water, our land, our country.” 
Carney is expected to call for nationwide elections sometime in the next few weeks, which could shake up the political makeup of Parliament. Alongside Trudeau, the Liberal Party’s popularity has fallen in recent months, and the Conservative Party could be poised to take control, with polls showing the party with a <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/polling-federal-rapid-shift-1.7469312" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slight advantage</a>. 
During his speech on Sunday, Carney slammed rival Canadian politician Pierre Poilievre, who heads the Conservative Party. The banker said that Poilievre was too closely aligned with Trump’s agenda.
“Donald Trump thinks he can weaken us with his plan to divide and conquer. Pierre Poilievre’s plan will leave us divided and ready to be conquered,” he said. “Because a person who worships at the altar of Donald Trump will kneel before him, not stand up to him.”
Poilievre, who has rejected calls from Trump to make Canada the 51st state, said that Carney would be a continuation of the unpopular Trudeau.

The president-elect’s taunts came after weeks of threatening Canada with 25% tariffs and a demand to secure its border and stop illegal immigration into the United States.
Poilievre is the favorite to replace Trudeau as prime minister as soon as new parliamentary elections can be held. The Conservative Party leader in a statement Tuesday defended Canada against Trump’s calls to join the United States while simultaneously attacking Trudeau’s government and party for its feeble response.

Hours before Poilievre’s post, Trudeau put out a short statement asserting that “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.”

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) currently projects that the Conservative Party will win 227 of 338 total seats in the House of Commons. Canadian media reported late on Sunday night that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to resign this week as Liberal Party Leader.
The Globe and Mail <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-pm-trudeau-announce-resignation-early-monday-globe-mail-reports-2025-01-06/">reported</a> on Sunday cited multiple sources in reporting that Trudeau could step down as soon as tomorrow and that it is expected to happen before a key national caucus meeting takes place on Wednesday.
Trudeau took over as leader of the far-left party in 2013 and has served as the prime minister of Canada since 2015.
Politico reported last week that the majority of his caucus had called on him to resign while he was on a ski holiday as he trails far behind populist conservative Pierre Poilievre.
Trudeau has been damaged by President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s victory last year and threats from the incoming president to hit Canada with tariffs for not helping to secure America&#8217;s northern border.
Trump has also regularly taunted Trudeau, saying he could become governor of Canada after the country joins the U.S. as the 51st state.
Multiple top officials in his administration have resigned as they lose confidence in his ability to lead.
During a meeting with Trudeau last month, Trump reportedly told the Canadian leader that if his country couldn’t afford to pay a potential tariff, it should consider becoming the 51st state.
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada. I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!,” Trump wrote.

In a stinging resignation letter, Freeland dismissed Trudeau&#8217;s push for increased spending as a political gimmick that could hurt Ottawa&#8217;s ability to deal with the 25 percent import tariffs U.S. President-elect Donald Trump says he will impose.
The resignation by Freeland, 56, who also served as deputy prime minister, is one of the biggest crises Trudeau has faced since taking power in November 2015. 
It also leaves him without a key ally when he is on track to lose the next election to the official opposition Conservatives.
Trudeau quickly came under pressure to go from the New Democrats, the smaller opposition party which earlier this year pulled its unconditional support of the minority Liberal government but has continued to back the prime minister on some legislation through parliament.
&#8216;I&#8217;m calling on Justin Trudeau to resign. He has to go,&#8217; party leader Jagmeet Singh told reporters.</blockquote>
This does not mean a new election will be held immediately. Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party — who would skunk the entire Liberal Party in the next election — is, of course, looking for a new election. He should be because Trudeau’s Left-wing agenda has become unbelievably unpopular in Canada.

He has called on Trudeau to resign, saying yesterday:

His Housing Minister has quit — that on top of numerous other female ministers who stormed out after his appalling mistreatment and abuse and dishonesty towards them. Eighty percent of Canadians have lost confidence in this Prime Minister. So why is Jagmeet Singh making the entire country wait for him to get his pension? That is the question today.</blockquote>
The real reason these other parties aren&#8217;t voting for a snap election is because they&#8217;re afraid all of the losses to Trudeau would accrue to Poilievre. So, right now, the Canadian government is basically on the brink.
Because Canada is a coalitional system, they require a majority of the Canadian parliament to vote for a motion of no confidence in order to bring down the government. But right now, the Canadian parliament is split between a wide variety of parties. The Left-wing parties have been hesitant to call a new election because they will not do better in a new election, and Poilievre will become prime minister — probably with a sheer majority of votes in Parliament. That is all that is holding Trudeau in office at this point.
The reason he is unpopular is because he has pursued every bad policy possible to pursue. In fact, this little rebellion inside his own party has been instigated by the fact he wants to spend, spend, and spend. He wants to create a massive budget deficit in order to address the fact that he is about to be hit with Trump&#8217;s tariffs.
But this is not just happening in Canada. It is also happening in Germany. The Wall Street Journal has <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/germany-heads-toward-early-elections-after-scholz-loses-confidence-vote-093b3196?mod=hp_lista_pos1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Germany is headed to an early election, writing:

Without a majority in Parliament, Scholz called a confidence vote—which he fully expected to lose—to clear the way for the dissolution of Parliament and a new vote, now expected in February. Germany’s post-World War II constitution instituted a multistep process for early elections in an attempt to prevent the endemic political instability.</blockquote>
However, if there were to be a new election, Friedrich Merz would likely take over. Merz is a center-Right politician who is very pro-America. Scholz is a center-Left politician. Merz is a representative of the same party as Angela Merkel, who was Chancellor of Germany from 2005-2021. However, Merz hated Merkel&#8217;s immigration policy, which condemned the center-Right to a decade of wilderness.
The Journal goes on, writing:

The bottom line, however, is that the winds have shifted across the world. The West is tired of stagnation. The West is tired of conciliation with Left-wing forces who are, in turn, conciliatory with radical Islamists.

The West is finally standing up on its hind legs.
Some of the leaders of this new movement include, obviously, President Trump; Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy who is apparently going to attend the inauguration of President Trump; Geert Wilders in the Netherlands; and Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary; among others.
Leaders of the center-Right to those who are libertarian are moving in a similar direction. Why? Because chaos and instability are pleasures of the luxurious wealthy. When things are going really well, you can afford dumb ideas. When things are going poorly, it turns out that you cannot.
And so it is very heartening to see Western countries turn away from the foolish redistributionist, self-hating Left-wing policies and turn toward something better.
It is a very good thing. This change is, indeed, in part due to Trump, but it is not only due to him. It is gaining traction across the world as people begin to realize how dumb Left-wing policy has been.

Canadian Prime Minister <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/justin-trudeau" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Justin Trudeau</a> was slammed over the weekend for dancing at a Taylor Swift concert while a far-Left pro-Hamas riot was unfolding in Montreal.
Trudeau attended the concert in Toronto on Friday night, hundreds of miles away from the district that he represents in Montreal.
Extremists set cars on fire and threw small explosives and other objects at police officers during the riot, local media <a href="https://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/cars-burned-windows-smashed-at-pro-palestinian-anti-nato-demonstration-in-montreal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The riot happened as hundreds of NATO delegates arrived in Montreal for a high-level summit.
Extremists burned an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and committed other anti-Semitic acts.
&#8220;What we saw on the streets of Montreal last night was appalling,&#8221; Trudeau said in a statement. &#8220;Acts of antisemitism, intimidation, and violence must be condemned wherever we see them.&#8221;

Canadian Parliament Member Melissa Lantsman posted a video of the violence and wrote: &#8220;Complete lawlessness in Montreal as the Pro-Hamas terror mobs emboldened by the Trudeau Liberals destroy the PM’s own hometown.&#8221;
&#8220;Rioters on a violent rampage and not a single word from our government,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;They only act when you disagree with them.&#8221;

Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre lambasted Trudeau over the riots.

Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the likely candidate to replace leftist Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, pulled no punches in his answer when asked if he endorsed Israel hitting Iran’s nuclear sites in response to Iran’s recent ballistic missile attack on Israel.
A reporter asked Poilievre, “Yesterday you said that you endorse Israel proactively defending itself by hitting Iran’s nuclear sites, which is something President Joe Biden does not endorse. Do you not feel that this could lead to a likelihood of an all-out conventional war between Iran and Israel, and do you not agree with Joe Biden and his assessment?”
“I think the idea of allowing a genocidal, theocratic, unstable dictatorship — that is desperate to avoid being overthrown by its own people — to develop nuclear weapons, is about the most dangerous and irresponsible thing that the world could ever allow,” Poilievre replied. “ And if Israel were to stop that genocidal, theocratic, unstable government from acquiring nuclear weapons, it would be a gift by the Jewish state to humanity.”

“Pierre Poilievre&#8217;s Conservatives are poised to win a massive majority government,” CBC News <a href="https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/elections/poll-tracker/canada/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Monday. CBC News’ Poll Tracker said polls showed Poilievre&#8217;s Conservatives getting 42.8% while Trudeau’s Liberal Party only won 22.8%. The Poll Tracker showed that Conservatives would win a massive 220 seats in the 343-seat Canadian Parliament. The 45th Canadian federal election will be held on or before October 20, 2025.
In June, Poilievre targeted Trudeau, accusing him of dividing the Canadian people in order to distract them and asking Trudeau if he would join Poilievre in calling for shutting down “Hamas-inspired hate camps at university campuses.”

“This prime minister divides to distract,” Poilievre <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/poilievre-targets-trudeau-regarding-hamas-inspired-hate-camps-at-universities">stated</a>. “He turns groups against each other; he fans the flames. He gave funds to an anti-Semitic Holocaust denier. And so, even before October 7, hate crimes were up 162%. And since, we’ve seen the rise of Hamas-inspired hate camps at university campuses that intimidate Jewish students and promote genocide. Will the Prime Minister summon the courage to join with me and call for these hate camps to be shut down and closed up so that students can safely go back to school?”
Conversely, two weeks after the October 7 Hamas massacre of more than 1200 Israelis, Trudeau asserted his government was “here” for Palestinian, Arab, and black Muslim communities.
“As members of the Palestinian, Arab, and Black Muslim communities gathered for prayer yesterday, I wanted them to know this: We know you’re worried and hurting. We’re here for you. We will not stop advocating for civilians to be protected and for international law to be upheld,” he declared.
Trudeau has a history of siding with Palestinian terrorists over Israel. In May 2018, Hamas in Gaza organized protests in which they had a multitude of their members demonstrating at the border in order to initiate conflict with Israel, likely so that Hamas members could ultimately infiltrate Israel and implement terrorist attacks. Hamas <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/hamas-official-50-of-the-people-killed-in-gaza-riots-were-members/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">later admitted</a> that 50 of the 62 Palestinians reported killed during the Gaza border riots were members of the Islamist terrorist group.
Trudeau issued a <a href="https://pm.gc.ca/eng/news/2018/05/16/statement-prime-minister-violence-gaza-strip" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> condemning Israel:

Poilievre <a href="https://x.com/PierrePoilievre/status/1818657211637207183">fired back</a>, “CBC is mourning the loss of the leader of Hamas, who carried out the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Destroy Hamas. Defund the CBC.”
Haniyeh, who headed Hamas’ Politburo since 2017, <a href="https://www.memri.org/reports/hamas-leader-ismail-haniyeh-we-should-hold-moment-victory-october-7-and-build-upon-it-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke</a> at a conference of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) in Doha, Qatar, three months after the October 7 massacre. He declared, “We should hold on to the victory that took place on October 7 and build upon it &#8230; the time has come for the Jihad of the swords,” the Middle East Media Research Institute reported.
“In 2012, when asked by Reuters reporters if Hamas had abandoned the armed struggle, Haniyeh replied of course not and said resistance would continue ‘in all forms &#8211; popular resistance, political, diplomatic and military resistance,’” The Hindu <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/international/who-was-ismail-haniyeh-hamas-leader-killed-in-iran/article68467371.ece" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
After the October 7 massacre, Poilievre released a <a href="https://www.conservative.ca/statement-from-conservative-leader-pierre-poilievre-on-the-horrific-terrorist-attacks-in-israel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> saying, “I unequivocally condemn the invasion of Israel by Hamas terrorists and the sadistic violence they have subsequently carried out against innocent civilians. Israel has the right to defend itself against these attacks and respond against the attackers. Canadians pledge their solidarity with all the victims.”
On October 11, he stated <a href="https://globalnews.ca/news/10017673/pierre-poilievre-condemns-hamas-during-okanagan-stop/?ref=readthemaple.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bluntly</a>, “Let us remember that every loss of life in this conflict is the direct consequence of Hamas’s conduct. Hamas is a sadistic, genocidal, terrorist death cult and it must be stopped. &#8230; So Conservatives call for the government to take action to counter Hamas any way we can.”
“One way would be to impose more severe sanctions on Iran, which is the sponsor of Hamas, and to criminalize the IRGC, which is the terrorist arm of the Iranian government that coordinates support for Hamas and Hezbollah,” he added.

In May, six Jewish college students spoke at Canada’s Parliament Hill of the anti-Semitism they were facing on their campuses, CDTV News <a href="applewebdata://A344C7BE-837F-4017-8E1A-39D621BB8C69/v">reported</a>.
“My friends who used to wear kippot on campus instead now wear baseball caps,” Nati Pressman, founder of the Canadian Union of Jewish Students, stated. “This is not because we are any less proud to be Jewish, but because our universities have fostered and create an environment where being openly Jewish could be a threat to our physical and emotional safety.”
“We&#8217;re not students anymore, because instead of begging for an assignment extension, we have to beg for our safety on campuses while we sit in class with the same people who praised the terrorism on October 7,” Anastasia Zorchinsky of Concordia asserted, noting that she had seen comments on her Instagram account saying, “We will find you on campus.”
Only two weeks after the Hamas massacre of over 1200 Israelis, Trudeau, who had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trudeau-tells-palestinians-were-here-for-you">publicly criticized</a> the state of Israel and expressed sympathies for Palestinians in the past, issued a tweet saying that his government was “here” for Palestinian, Arab, and black Muslim communities.
