Pedro Pascal is everywhere right now: on TV, in movies, and, if a female co-star is nearby, all over her.
Though he’s been lauded by Hollywood for years as the new standard of a leading male — sensitive, progressive, charming — Pascal&#8217;s behavior on the “Fantastic Four: First Steps&#8221; press tour has even his most fervent fans questioning his motives. The “Gladiator II” star is constantly caressing his pregnant co-star, Vanessa Kirby. Whether <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@vanityfair/video/7529742724388375838" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rubbing</a> her stomach or <a href="https://x.com/pascalarchive/status/1817428835173863626" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stroking her arm</a> until she takes his hand, Pascal seems to always be touching the 37-year-old English actress.
In the post-MeToo era, Pascal’s behavior is bound to raise some eyebrows. But to hear him tell it, it’s ok. He’s not creepy. He’s just anxious.
Though Pascal has not specifically commented on this, the claim that he requires physical touch to calm his anxiety while appearing in public has widely circulated on social media.
Pascal famously <a href="https://people.com/style/pedro-pascal-tells-bella-ramsey-his-frequent-red-carpet-pose-is-to-curb-his-anxiety/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discussed</a> his anxiety in a 2023 interview alongside his “The Last of Us” co-star Bella Ramsey. Placing a hand on his stomach, Pascal told the crowd, “My anxiety is right there.” The clip, and others like it, endeared Pascal to fans, reinforcing the image of a sensitive, self-aware leading man who stood in stark contrast to the “toxic masculinity” that Hollywood had begun to revile.
But Pascal’s penchant for squeezing and rubbing Kirby — who is in a relationship with Professional Lacrosse League co-founder Paul Rabil — has fans rethinking whether the actor is really as sensitive and nontoxic as they thought.
Things have become so dire that some of Pascal’s most vocal supporters now claim he is the target of a smear campaign due to his vocal support of transgender rights. Regardless, the tomcat may be out of the bag. Internet sleuths seem to uncover a new video of Pascal’s red-carpet affections every day. Now, Hollywood’s favorite sensitive star is at the center of a conversation about boundaries, mental health, and whether an anxiety diagnosis could potentially be used as a free pass for inappropriate behavior.
Clinical psychologist Dr. Andrew Hartz, founder and president of the <a href="https://www.opentherapyinstitute.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Open Therapy Institute</a>, spoke with The Daily Wire about the Pascal drama and how mental health is treated in this country more broadly.
“I think I have two initial thoughts about it,” Hartz said of Pascal’s situation. “One is that if somebody has anxiety, it doesn&#8217;t negate your need for personal boundaries.”
“Whether they have anxiety or any mental illness [it’s important] to have personal boundaries about what you&#8217;re comfortable with,” he explained. “And so I think it&#8217;s important to keep that in mind. Regardless of whatever diagnosis he may or may not have, it&#8217;s totally legitimate — and I think important — for other people to set boundaries about what they&#8217;re comfortable with.”
That might seem like common sense, but these lines are crossed all the time, especially when a mental health label is introduced. When asked if using anxiety as an explanation might lead to people excusing otherwise boundary-crossing behavior, Hartz didn’t mince words.
“I&#8217;m really skeptical about these attempts to treat anxiety by accommodating it in particular,” he said. “A lot of times, when you accommodate anxiety, it makes it worse. Like, if you have a fear of elevators, and so you take the stairs instead, what will happen is you&#8217;ll kind of get &#8230; a dopamine hit for taking the stairs because your anxiety goes down. And the elevator gets scarier.”
“So honestly, the more you avoid and use these safety behaviors to cope with anxiety, it can make it worse,” he continued. “I don&#8217;t know of any treatment for anxiety that encourages behaviors like that.”
So, what would actual treatment look like?
“Depending on what the anxiety is — it sounds like [for Pascal] it&#8217;s like a social anxiety — the most effective treatments are exposure, where you&#8217;re exposed to your anxiety without the safety behaviors over time, so that you learn to tolerate it,” Hartz said. “And these other behaviors, not exposing yourself to that and avoiding that, could potentially make it worse and even lead it to generalize.”
It’s not just about ineffective coping, either. There’s also the matter of accountability. Pascal’s defenders, including some of his co-stars, may appear to be fine with it. But what happens when someone isn’t?
“Even whoever he&#8217;s touching, they need to be able to consent based on what they&#8217;re comfortable with,” Hartz said. “And so if they&#8217;re not comfortable with it, his label doesn&#8217;t matter. So I don&#8217;t know if maybe using the label leads people to let their boundaries be violated in ways that they wouldn&#8217;t otherwise allow, which is not healthy.”
In other words, labeling yourself as anxious doesn’t give you a license to touch people who haven’t clearly consented, and shouldn’t make a person more likely to consent based on that diagnosis.
Hartz also pointed to a deeper cultural shift in how mental health is discussed and how some public figures, intentionally or not, may be using diagnoses as a way to shield themselves from criticism or scrutiny.
“The whole reason that the diagnostic labels exist is so that people can get evidence-based treatments,” he said. “So it&#8217;s interesting the way that diagnostic labels have [become] seen as permanent traits of an identity.”
“It&#8217;s so strange because it&#8217;s like the whole reason you have the label is so that you can effectively treat it and not have those symptoms anymore. Not to say, ‘This is who you are, a person with anxiety forever,’ and everybody needs to accommodate.”
“It&#8217;s really strange the way these labels, I think especially on social media, have taken on a life of their own,” he added. “It’s almost like they&#8217;re a permanent, unchanging part of somebody&#8217;s identity as opposed to like a tool for clinicians to help address problems.”
Hartz’s bottom line was clear: “If you have an anxiety disorder, get treatment. That&#8217;s what I would say.”
In a culture that increasingly elevates mental health awareness, it’s also worth asking whether some public figures are hiding behind the language of self-care to excuse behavior that, in another context, might be seen as intrusive or even predatory.
Pascal may see his actions as harmless. But as Hartz said, “The reason why the labels exist is to help treatments develop where people… can get over the symptoms, not so that everybody else in society accommodates.”
In summary: Anxiety is real, but so are boundaries. And one doesn’t cancel out the other.

Author JK Rowling responded to a comment from Boy George, the former lead singer of Culture Club, claiming &#8220;she hates men,&#8221; which is just a small part of the backlash she’s received since the United Kingdom&#8217;s Supreme Court ruled that the definition of a woman is determined by biological sex.
The billionaire “Harry Potter” author has been a controversial figure for years as critics labeled her a TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist) for stating her belief that men cannot become women. These criticisms went mainstream again last week when actor Pedro Pascal <a href="https://fox59.com/news/entertainment/last-of-us-actor-pedro-pascal-calls-harry-potter-author-heinous-loser/">accused</a> Rowling of exhibiting “heinous loser behavior” for celebrating the court ruling.
Pascal, who has a trans-identifying sibling, recently attended the U.K. premiere of Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” wearing a “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt, which was created to benefit a charity for trans-identifying people. The actor spoke out about these issues in the past, saying, “A world without trans people has never existed and never will… I can’t think of anything more vile and small than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except for the right to exist.”
Boy George, 63, responded to a user on X who had commented on a post about Pascal. The original post stated that Pascal &#8220;doesn&#8217;t hate women.”
Boy George replied, “Stop this nonsense that if you don&#8217;t agree with [JK Rowling] you hate women. She hates men. This is where this truth lies. She cannot differentiate between a &#8216;trans&#8217; woman and a biological male. Which is weird with her imagination?”

“The Last of Us” star Pedro Pascal reacted to the rumors about him and Jennifer Aniston dating after pictures of the two celebrities having dinner together went viral.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.etonline.com/media/videos/pedro-pascal-says-he-is-basking-in-jennifer-anistons-starlight-exclusive-234543">Entertainment Tonight</a> at the premiere of the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us,”  the 49-year-old actor talked about their relationship but made it clear it’s just friendship between them.
&#8220;Oh, Jennifer and I are very good friends, and I got to have dinner on Saturday. It was a fun martini dinner,” Pascal explained.
When pushed further about all the attention their dinner received, “The Mandalorian” star said, “That&#8217;s her starlight. I&#8217;m just basking in it.&#8221;
The comments came in response to pictures on social media of Pascal and the “Friends” star having dinner together for three hours on Saturday in Los Angeles, as the outlet noted.

Several outlets&#8217; headlines later read that Pascal and Aniston had sparked romance rumors with their outing. 
However, a source has since told <a href="https://pagesix.com/2025/03/24/celebrity-news/truth-behind-jennifer-aniston-and-pedro-pascals-relationship-revealed/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a> that “There is no romance going on between Jennifer Aniston and Pedro Pascal. They respect each other as artists but it’s strictly platonic and they’re not dating.”
Pascal has never been in a public relationship. The source and Pascal&#8217;s comments backed what a source told <a href="https://people.com/jennifer-aniston-pedro-pascal-dinner-los-angeles-photo-working-together-exclusive-11702490">People magazine</a> recently about Aniston and him.
&#8220;Jen likes [Pedro&#8217;s] energy and would love to work with him,&#8221; the source told the outlet.
Aniston’s dating life has always made headlines. In 2022, the 56-year-old actress opened up about dating, but made it clear she didn’t have any interest in walking down the aisle again after getting married not once but twice. &#8220;The Horrible Bosses&#8221; star and Brad Pitt were married from 2000 to 2005. She went on to marry and divorce Justin Theroux. Pitt was later married to Angelina Jolie from 2014 to 2019 before their divorce was official.

Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pedro-pascal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pedro Pascal</a> addressed the fact that some fans call him “daddy” even though he isn’t one.
The 48-year-old discussed the nickname, which he said he finds amusing, during a Drama Actor Roundtable, according to <a href="https://ew.com/tv/pedro-pascal-says-he-is-not-daddy-even-if-roles-are-very-daddy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Entertainment Weekly</a>. The conversation included fellow Hollywood stars Evan Peters, Jeff Bridges, Kieran Culkin, Damson Idris, and Michael Imperioli.
“Yeah, I am having fun with it,” Pascal said of being called “daddy.” He took on father figure roles in “The Mandalorian” and the apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us.”
&#8220;It seems a little role-related. There was a period where the Mandalorian is very daddy to baby Grogu, and [‘The Last of Us’ lead character] Joel is very daddy to Ellie. These are daddy parts. That&#8217;s what it is.&#8221;
Bridges asked Pascal, &#8220;Are you a daddy?&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m not a daddy,&#8221; Pascal replied. &#8220;And I&#8217;m not gonna be a daddy!&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m a daddy,&#8221; Culkin said. &#8220;Nobody likes my daddy parts.&#8221;
&#8220;What did you just say? &#8216;Nobody likes my daddy parts&#8217;?&#8221; Pascal asked as the actors laughed.

This wasn’t the first time Pascal talked about being cast as a father figure despite not actually being one in real life. The Chilean-born star called himself a &#8220;cool, slutty Daddy&#8221; after being addressed as “the daddy of the internet” during a red carpet <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hPM6-3Cf1cE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with Entertainment Tonight. He also <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JuEq_rgCGEg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> being a “daddy” was &#8220;a state of mind&#8221; during a Vanity Fair lie detector test. “I’m your daddy,” he said. 
Pascal is not married and has no children. He’s an avowed leftist with a particular interest in LGBTQ causes due to his sibling, Lux Pascal, identifying as transgender. 
“She is and has always been one of the most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known. My protective side is lethal, but I need her more than she needs me,” Pascal said of Lux in April while speaking with Esquire.

Recent Marvel Cinematic Universe films hyper focus on LGBTQ themes and aggressive diversity casting over, you know, fun.
Horror? Woke shockers like “Antebellum,” “Candyman,” and “They/Them” speak for themselves.
Is the Western next?
A new short film, albeit one featuring two major stars, is getting plenty of buzz.
Shot in southern Spain’s Tabernas desert, “<a href="https://variety.com/2023/film/global/pedro-almodovar-gay-western-strange-way-of-life-italy-latin-america-mubi-1235580205/">Strange Way of Life</a>” stars Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal as two gunmen who reunite after 25 years. The half-hour film has been described by [Pedro] Almodóvar as a “queer Western, in the sense that there are two men and they love each other,” the director said last December on Dua Lipa’s “At Your Service” podcast. 
It&#8217;s “Brokeback Mountain” redux. One could also say it’s a kissing cousin to “The Power of the Dog.” That 2021 Netflix original featured a closeted gay cowboy (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his connection with a local outcast (Kodi Smit-McPhee).
The film earned 11 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
The latest spin on “revisionist Westerns” could be the new normal, and it involves more than closeted gay cowboys revealing their sexual appetites. 
The Western is as American as baseball, apple pie, and reality TV. The genre thrives on rugged individualism, masculine heroes, and themes that speak to the country’s character. Classic Westerns like “High Noon” (1952), “Shane” (1953), and “The Searchers” (1956) taught generations about sacrifice, honor, and what it means to be a man.
In short, it’s the American experiment.
The Western hero was far from perfect. He might drink too much or struggle with his emotions. When danger came, however, the townsfolk knew who to call. He didn’t blame others or wallow in his misery. He got his hands dirty and set to work.
Female heroes mattered, too.
Movies like The Daily Wire’s “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/terror-on-the-prairie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Terror on the Prairie</a>” featured a strong female lead (Gina Carano), but the essential Western elements surrounded her brave defense of her nuclear family.
The Nicolas Cage/Nick Searcy indie “The Old Way” followed a gunslinger (Cage) training his daughter how to sling lead to protect herself. 
The Western’s DNA is anathema to major film studios. Too much toxic masculinity, they say. Where is the diversity? Why are these stories glorifying guns for self-defense?
Is “Strange Way of Life” a sign of stories to come?
The Western faded from the pop culture landscape in the late 20th century years as legends like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood either passed or passed on the white hats to a new generation. Oaters became passe, as CGI fueled a string of blockbuster movies and superhero adaptations.
The genre never went away. TV shows like “Longmire,” “Justified,” and, more recently, “Yellowstone” captured the Western’s ethos despite modern trappings. Each enjoyed sizable success, with the latter becoming one of the most popular shows across the cluttered streaming landscape.
Few stories inspire as much passion, and viewer loyalty, as the ongoing Dutton saga.
Subverting the Western fits snugly into liberal Hollywood’s worldview. Movies once celebrated the American way of life, extolling freedom, self-reliance, and sacrifice against impossible odds. Now, the films that celebrate all-American principles (<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/affleck-damon-deliver-with-air-a-pro-capitalism-three-pointer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">like the recent “Air”</a>) stand out as exceptions to the pop culture rule.
And, of course, American culture is swiftly shared across the globe, our most curious export. While Chinese movies praise the communist nation and its achievements, American filmmakers (under no such governmental pressure) often do the opposite.
The Western must be demystified, rearranged, and revised to blast the past and embrace the new American ethos. Films like 2017’s “Hostiles” turn on the mistreatment of the American Indian, a valid theme that often swamps storytelling essentials.
Even the liberal RogerEbert.com review noted that Christian Bale film <a href="https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/hostiles-2017" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lacks nuanced portraits of the Indian characters</a>. Woke sensibilities make it harder to turn minority figures into flesh-and-blood souls. 

This doesn’t mean a film genre needs to be replicated over and again.
Previous revisionist Westerns cling to the genre’s core elements. Many rightly praised Clint Eastwood’s 1992 classic “Unforgiven,” a look at a gunslinger reflecting on his violent handiwork. Some genres need a nip or a tuck to bring them back to life.
Other revisionist classics include “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (1969), “Little Big Man” (1970), and “Django Unchained” (2012).
American audiences always crave the Western essentials, though, which means classic Westerns will find new generations to delight. Let’s hope they can enjoy newer versions alongside the classics. One might come from Mr. “Yellowstone” himself.
Costner is set to direct “Horizon,” a sprawling Western set before, and after the Civil War. The large cast, including Costner, Jena Malone, Luke Wilson, and Thomas Haden Church, promises to tell its story through multiple perspectives.
Chances are there’s enough Dutton left in Costner to make “Horizon” a worthy addition to a deeply American film genre.

&#8220;The Last of Us&#8221; star Bella Ramsey said the lead character in the series, Joel, made the &#8220;right decision&#8221; in the finale of the first season when he was faced with saving a child or humanity in the zombie-apocalypse series.
During an interview with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVa651YfWJw&amp;t=172s">Vanity Fair</a>, the 19-year-old actress — who plays Ellie — was asked her thoughts about the dilemma her co-star Pedro Pascal faced in the season finale of the HBO Max series. The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-last-of-us-finale-draws-8-2-million-viewers-a-series-high-despite-oscars-competition">series</a> centered on Joel and Ellie, who are seeking a cure in a world overrun by zombies created by a fungal infection.

&#8220;I don&#8217;t think it was even a choice,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I don&#8217;t think it was even a decision for him. There was no other option other than to save her. Because … he did save the world. But, like, his world. That&#8217;s so cringy but it&#8217;s kind of true.&#8221;
Later in the clip, Ramsey read another fan comment that laid out what they saw as Joel&#8217;s thought process in the end. (Warning: Spoilers)
&#8220;Joel thought that sacrificing Ellie wasn&#8217;t worth saving humanity, the same humanity that killed his daughter, the same people that kill each other every day,&#8221; Ramsey read. &#8220;I think the giraffes symbolize true innocence, the vanishing grace of childhood. When Joel looked back at the giraffes, and they were almost gone, he realized that innocence has left this world and the world needed innocence, people like Ellie. They didn&#8217;t need a &#8216;cure&#8217; because the [fungal infection] wasn&#8217;t the real disease. It is what people have become.&#8221;
The young actress agreed with the theory and said &#8220;Yeah, true. Truth.”
Following the series finale, reactions from fans on social media have been mixed with many supporting Joel&#8217;s actions but others saying what he did was selfish, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/mar/22/id-like-more-of-the-infected-your-verdicts-on-the-last-of-us">The Guardian</a> noted.

Disney&#8217;s &#8220;The Mandalorian&#8221; star Pedro Pascal was hit with a backlash on social media when he honored the two men who were fatally shot after attacking teenager Kyle Rittenhouse last year.
Pascal claimed the pair were &#8220;murdered,&#8221; though Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all homicide charges relating to incidents. The actor was also swarmed with criticism for &#8220;glorying a child rapist&#8221; &#8212; a reference to now deceased 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum, who has served jail time for numerous child sex crimes.

Left-wing fact-checking site Snopes has <a href="https://www.snopes.com/news/2020/09/11/rittenhouse-victims-records/">confirmed</a> Rosenbaum&#8217;s sex child crimes:
<blockquote>For example, yes, at age 19, Rosenbaum was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing five children — all boys between the ages of 9 and 11 — in Arizona’s Pima County in early 2002, according to his case file obtained via a public records request by Snopes.
The documents said Rosenbaum was temporarily living with the boys’ parents after his mother had kicked him out for disobeying her rules about one month earlier. Over the course of his weeks-long stay, Rosenbaum molested the boys, showed them porn, and performed oral sex on them, among other offenses, the documents showed. He was sentenced to prison for roughly 15 years, and authorities believed at the time “his risk to recidivate being of great concern to the community” considering the victims’ gender and age. (Let us note here: The records included an interview with Rosenbaum in which he said his stepfather sexually abused him and his brother on an almost daily basis when he was a preteen.)
Considering that evidence, the claim that Rosenbaum at one point was convicted of sexually abusing at least one child before his death was true.</blockquote>

‘Glorifying A Child Rapist’: Disney’s Pedro Pascal Ripped For Honoring ‘Murdered’ Rittenhouse Attackers

In her first interview since Gina Carano was fired from the Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, Carano sat down with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-111-gina-carano">The Daily Wire&#8217;s Ben Shapiro</a> to talk about Hollywood&#8217;s treatment of her as a conservative and her new partnership with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gina-carano-to-produce-and-star-in-upcoming-film-for-the-daily-wire">The Daily Wire</a>. Notably, Carano took the opportunity to discuss how she is friends with people who have different political viewpoints, specifically avoiding speaking negatively about her co-star, Pedro Pascal.
Shapiro mentioned the difference in treatment of Hollywood stars when it comes to making comparisons between the present-day and the Holocaust, noting that Carano&#8217;s co-star Pedro Pascal had not been fired for a tweet he posted in the summer of 2018.

Past posts from Pascal soon surfaced, including one which showed an image of Jews behind barbed wire at a German extermination camp in 1944, comparing it to what he falsely claimed was a 2018 image of children in cages in the United States. Pascal added “#ThisIsAmerica” to the tweet.</blockquote>

Shapiro pointed out that the picture with the caption &#8220;America, 2018&#8221; was not, in fact, a picture of children at the United States border in 2018. He added that Disney+ and Lucasfilm never said anything about Pascal&#8217;s meme or called it anti-Semitic.
&#8220;There was pretty obviously a double standard at play here,&#8221; he added.
Carano agreed, saying, &#8220;Oh, and there has been. They&#8217;ve been all over me and they&#8217;ve been watching me like a hawk. I&#8217;m watching, you know, other people on the same production, and they can say everything they want, and that&#8217;s where I had a problem &#8230; I wasn&#8217;t going along with the narrative.&#8221;
She took a deep breath and continued, &#8220;And you know what, I adore Pedro.&#8221;
She smiled slightly, nodding, and said, &#8220;I adore him. I know he&#8217;s said and done some hurtful things &#8230; but I know that, you know, he thinks a lot of the stuff that I post, y&#8217;know, like, but there&#8217;s so much love there still, you know?
&#8220;And we had an agreement,&#8221; she chuckled, &#8220;after we realized we were a little bit politically different. We had an agreement that — first and foremost — you&#8217;re a human being. And you&#8217;re my friend first.&#8221;
She noted that &#8220;the two sides&#8221; were trying to drag them apart, “because we&#8217;re both passionate, and that&#8217;s what&#8217;s been really crazy is, like, you see these people over here being so passionate and you see people over here being so passionate, and I love that we&#8217;re just both passionate, you know?&#8221;
Carano seemed to be hesitant to say anything negative about someone she considers to be a friend.
She went on, &#8220;And we just, we think a little bit differently &#8230; through our different experiences. I know that we both have misstepped on our tweets. We&#8217;re not perfect. We&#8217;re human beings, but he&#8217;s not a bad human being. He&#8217;s a sweet person.&#8221;
Shapiro explained, &#8220;I don&#8217;t think anyone thinks any different,&#8221; noting that the “disparate treatment” of each of the memes was the part that was &#8220;shocking.&#8221;

Gina Carano Discusses Having Friends With Different Political Views

On Wednesday, Disney reportedly cut ties with conservative actress Gina Carano — known most recently for playing Cara Dune in the Disney+ show, The Mandalorian — because of a series of “offensive” posts on social media.
The post that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-fires-actress-gina-carano-after-post-comparing-hating-someone-over-politics-to-nazi-germany">apparently</a> generated the most controversy was a screenshot shared on Carano’s Instagram account which compared the political divisions in the United States to Nazi Germany. The screenshot read:
<blockquote>Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children.
“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”</blockquote>
“As Carano has been an outspoken supporter of former president Donald Trump and has often complained about backlash against her conservative opinions, many critics took the post as her equating Republicans with Jews in Nazi Germany,” The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/02/11/gina-carano-mandalorian-star-wars/">reported</a>. “The post has since been deleted, but not before fans captured the moment and shared it widely. Critics called for the actress to be fired for her online rhetoric under the hashtag #FireGinaCarano, which trended on Twitter on Wednesday.”
Lucasfilm, a production company owned by the Disney corporation, said that “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” and that her “social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Despite this exciting adventure, it’s also important not to lose sight of the fact that Disney’s sudden and decisive “action” against “abhorrent and unacceptable” behavior is far from consistent. Below are multiple examples that expose Disney&#8217;s double standard. 
Chinese Communist Party
In the ending credits of Disney’s live-action remake of “Mulan,” it is revealed that several scenes were filmed in China’s Xinjiang Province, where it is reported that more than one million Uighur Muslims are being detained in concentration camps by the Chinese Communist government.
“Following Mulan‘s release on Disney+ on Friday, some viewers began noticing a ‘special thanks’ in the film’s end credits to eight government entities in Xinjiang, including the public security bureau in the city of Turpan, where China is believed to operate over a dozen ‘re-education camps’ that hold Uighurs in extra-judicial detention,” the Hollywood Reporter <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/disney-under-fire-for-filming-mulan-in-chinas-xinjiang-province">wrote</a>. “Mulan‘s credit sequence also extends a thank you to the ‘publicity department of CPC Xinjiang Uighur Autonomy Region Committee,’ the Chinese Communist Party agency responsible for producing and managing state propaganda efforts in the region.”

Human rights groups have <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-55794071">criticized</a> the Chinese Communist government for stripping away “the religious and other freedoms of the Uighurs, culminating in an oppressive system of mass surveillance, detention, indoctrination, and even forced sterilization.”
It was recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/anal-rape-with-a-stick-bbc-report-details-systemic-rape-in-uighur-concentration-camps">reported</a> by the BBC that “women in China’s ‘re-education’ camps for Uighurs have been systematically raped, sexually abused, and tortured.”
In addition to the Chinese government’s reported persecution of Uighur Muslims, Disney currently operates Shanghai Disneyland Park as part of the Shanghai Disney Resort, in Eastern China. The park opened in 2016.
James Gunn
The director of Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” was fired in 2018 after “his social media posts from years prior went viral.” The tweets, which Gunn defended as jokes, included subjects like rape and pedophilia.
Disney rehired Gunn in May 2019 to direct the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” 
Deadline <a href="https://deadline.com/2019/03/james-gunn-reinstated-guardians-of-the-galaxy-3-disney-suicide-squad-2-indefensible-social-media-messages-1202576444/">reported</a> at the time that Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn met with Gunn, and was “Persuaded by Gunn’s public apology and his handling of the situation after,” with Horn then deciding to “reverse course and reinstate Gunn.”

Despite his own brush with cancel culture, Gunn “appears to approve of the online bashing” targeting Carano on social media. Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/james-gunn-likes-tweet-bashing-gina-carano-after-twitter-mob-pushed-disney-to-fire-him-from-guardians-sequel">reported</a>:

“Oh f*ck don’t drag @JamesGunn into this unfortunate trending topic,” entrepreneur Olga Kay wrote before celebrating Carano’s firing.

Following the Fox News report, Gunn <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/james-gunn-rehired-by-disney-after-scandal-likes-tweet-bashing-gina-carano-after-disney-fires-her">appeared</a> to “unlike” the tweet.
The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro pointed out the apparent hypocrisy, saying that it “would be nice to see Gunn and co. defend Carano.”

Multiple critics of Disney’s apparent reasoning for the decision to fire Carano have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/backlash-against-disney-grows-after-liberal-actor-in-show-with-gina-carano-made-similar-posts-still-has-job">pointed out</a> that “Pedro Pascal, Carano’s co-star in Disney’s “The Mandalorian,” who openly cheers on Democrats on social media, made similar posts online to the ones that reportedly cost Carano her job, and yet he still remains employed with the company.”

Past posts from Pascal soon surfaced, including one which showed an image of Jews behind barbed wire at a German extermination camp in 1944, comparing it to what he falsely claimed was a 2018 image of children in cages in the United States. Pascal added “#ThisIsAmerica” to the tweet.

Pascal was criticized widely on social media, with Donald Trump Jr. asking why Disney discriminates “against women for doing what their male actors do or is is only discrimination against conservatives?”

<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/hawley-abc-reporter-moran-disgusting-trump-fuhrer-republicans">Fox News</a> reported just days ago that “Reacting to this week’s impeachment proceedings against Trump on a charge he incited an insurrection at the Capitol, ABC’s Terry Moran declared Trump has a ‘personalized power like we haven&#8217;t seen.’”
“It’s a caudillo, it’s a Caesar, it’s a Führer. We don’t see that in this country. We do now,” Moran said.
The word “Führer” was the German word for “leader” used to address Adolf Hitler. 
In 2017, the ABC journalist also <a href="https://thehill.com/media/315312-abc-reporter-trump-speech-carried-anti-semitic-overtones">described</a> Trump’s use of “America First” as a ”loaded term&#8221; that carried &#8220;overtones from the 1930s, when an anti-Semitic movement” blamed Jews for global problems.

While technically not eligible for cancelation, it’s important — and somewhat ironic — to acknowledge that the founder of the Walt Disney Company — Walt Disney — had an alleged history of comments and actions which — by today’s standards — would warrant immediate cancellation.
According to <a href="https://www.biography.com/news/walt-disney-biography-facts-video">Biography</a>, “In the 1930s, Disney attended meetings of a pro-Nazi organization, the German American Bund. He also hosted a known Nazi propagandist and filmmaker, Leni Riefenstahl, and gave her a tour of Disney Studios. To make matters worse, Disney was also accused of perpetuating black stereotypes in his films.”

Disney Cancels Gina Carano Over Tweets While Ignoring Far Worse From Others

Disney reportedly cut ties this week with conservative actress Gina Carano, one of the stars of Lucasfilm’s hit TV series “The Mandalorian,” on Wednesday. The alleged cause of the firing was a series of posts Carano made on social media that critics claimed were offensive.
As The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-fires-actress-gina-carano-after-post-comparing-hating-someone-over-politics-to-nazi-germany">reported</a>, “The post that generated the most controversy was a screenshot of another person’s post that she then posted onto her own Instagram account. The post compared the current politically divisive culture in the U.S. to Nazi Germany.” The screenshot stated:
<blockquote>Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?</blockquote>
Lucasfilm, which is owned by Disney, announced in a statement, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Social media noted that another actor starring in “The Mandalorian,” Pedro Pascal, had also <a href="https://twitter.com/pedropascal1/status/1009572721548595201?lang=en">made a reference</a> to the Holocaust, but no action had been taken by Disney. On June 20, 2018, Pascal posted two images, one of a concentration camp in Germany in 1944 and another of immigrant children &#8220;in cages&#8221; that he suggested was taken in 2018, hashtagged &#8220;#ThisIsAmerica.&#8221; Tweet below followed by screenshot:

Additionally, after the November election in which then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden defeated former President Trump, Pascal reportedly <a href="https://www.piratesandprincesses.net/star-wars-the-mandalorian-actor-allegedly-compares-trump-supporters-to-confederates-and-nazi-germany/">posted</a> on Instagram a comparison between Trump supporters and Nazis (screenshot below):

The difference between Pascal’s outspoken leftist political perspective and Carano’s conservative could be illustrated by a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/02/11/gina-carano-mandalorian-star-wars/">report</a> in the Washington Post that stated:
<blockquote>As Carano has been an outspoken supporter of former president Donald Trump and has often complained about backlash against her conservative opinions, many critics took the post as her equating Republicans with Jews in Nazi Germany. The post has since been deleted, but not before fans captured the moment and shared it widely. Critics called for the actress to be fired for her online rhetoric under the hashtag #FireGinaCarano, which trended on Twitter on Wednesday.</blockquote>
“In response to Carano’s firing, critics noted how Disney rehired a director that had been fired over disturbing sexually explicit tweets, Disney’s business dealings in communist China, and other controversy that the company has faced in recent years,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-faces-massive-backlash-for-firing-gina-carano-as-cancel-disney-plus-trends-1-critics-bring-up-companys-history">The Daily Wire</a> noted.
Daily Caller social media editor Greg Price <a href="https://twitter.com/greg_price11/status/1359717174693277698">commented</a>, “Disney was okay with profiting off China’s human rights abuses but fired @ginacarano, who was badass on Mando, at the behest of a woke social media mob because our cultural and corporate elites are pieces of s*** and deserve your absolute contempt. You can be a genuinely cool person like Gina Carano or Chris Pratt, but the woke mob demands you put your pronouns in your bio or they’ll come for your head and corporate America will go along with it because they suck.”
