Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) falsely suggested during an interview over the weekend that President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s rhetoric was the reason for the 2022 attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi.
Pelosi made the unsubstantiated claim during an interview that aired Sunday on CBS News&#8217; &#8220;Face The Nation&#8221; with Margaret Brennan, while talking about how Trump may pardon some January 6 defendants who are serving sentences for their roles in the riot.
Pelosi claimed that those who used violent words on that day had &#8220;intention&#8221; to carry out actual violence.
&#8220;Now it didn&#8217;t end that day,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;As you know, he called out to these people to continue their violence, my husband being a victim of all of that, and he still has injuries from that attack. So it just goes on and on. It isn&#8217;t something that happens and then it&#8217;s over. No, once you are attacked, you have consequences that continue.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s really a strange person who&#8217;s going to be President of the United States, who thinks that it&#8217;s okay to pardon people who are engaged in an attack,&#8221; she continued, claiming that Trump had &#8220;conned&#8221; the American people about the January 6 riot.
&#8220;The President said he would go on a case-by-case basis,&#8221; she said. &#8220;So I assume that some of those people may not have engaged in the violent activities that some of the others did.&#8221;
She again doubled down on falsely suggesting that Trump had offered &#8220;encouragement&#8221; to those who were &#8220;looking for me and finding my husband.&#8221;

David Frum, longtime columnist, pundit, and former speech-writer for president George W. Bush, penned an article in The Atlantic that, were I a psychology professor, I would present to my class as a prime example of projection. In the words of the great litigator Vincent LaGuardia Gambini: “Everything dat guy just said is b*****t.”
Following the assassination attempt on former President Trump, Frum published an article in The Atlantic titled “<a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/07/donald-trump-democracy-dictator/679006/">The Gunman and the Would-Be Dictator.</a>” It would be easy to go through his article line-by-line and offer the classic admonition that people who point fingers often have three pointing back at them at every period. And, indeed, that is what projection is all about. 
Frum was my first editor at New Majority and FrumForum. He was a very nice guy and a generous host. His latest article is a disappointment and, in my view, irresponsibly slides right back into the “Trump is Hitler” narrative — in this case Mussolini — that brought the violence down upon the &#8220;Bad Orange Man&#8221; in the first place. He has learned nothing from what took place over the weekend, and what it truly means to those Americans not holed up in the Trump Derangement ward at Cedars Sinai. The assertions he makes are, quite simply, astounding in both their lack of self-awareness and distance from the experiences of the average American.
Here are a few that stuck out at me. Frum starts his piece by bringing up the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi — and the admittedly tasteless satisfaction some in the Trump camp expressed, as well as their floating a story that Pelosi was involved in a dispute with a gay lover. Is Frum saying political figures shouldn’t spread falsehoods, especially character assaults, for political points? He fails to mention the steady dirge of slanderous falsehoods aimed at Trump and his family for years, courtesy of the leaders of the party he pretends to oppose (he doesn’t) as well as the legacy media who serve as the DNC’s megaphone. He makes no mention of Mr. Pelosi’s mendacious wife, then-speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi, who knowingly pushed the lie that Trump was a Russian agent, supported the fabricated Steele dossier and the subsequent two-year, multimillion dollar Mueller witch hunt. Or how, as speaker of the house, she labeled then-President Trump an “imposter” before tearing up his SOTUS address on live television.
Frum goes on to write an utterly inflammatory and demonstrably false statement that is far more applicable to the Democrats for whom he carries backbreaking volumes of water than the Trump supporters he apparently believes to be as “deplorable” as the woman he voted for in 2016.

The hypocrisy beggars the mind. For months in 2020, in over 200 cities, leftist mobs from Antifa to BLM acted as the Democrats’ brownshirts; they rioted, looted, committed arson, assaulted over 1,500 police and murdered some two dozen innocents while committing $2 billion in property damage. How many &#8220;MAGA extremists&#8221; were in those crowds? How many Biden voters? In fact, I’d like to ask Frum a simple question: The night before the 2020 election, in cities throughout the USA, businesses were boarding up their windows and storefronts. What were they concerned about? Trump voters becoming violent if Biden won, or Biden voters losing it if Trump won? He knows the answer.
He goes on:
<blockquote>The 2024 election was already shaping up as a symbolic contest between an elderly and weakening liberalism too frail and uncertain to protect itself and an authoritarian, reactionary movement ready to burst every barrier and trash every institution.</blockquote>
“Elderly liberalism”? One imagines a kindly New Dealer in a cardigan just trying to put a chicken in every pot versus a jackbooted authoritarian hellbent on destroying the Republic. If he were given a political version of a blind taste test and then asked to pick the authoritarian group, who would he pick? My guess is he would choose the side that weaponizes the IRS to harass political opponents, supports not a four-hour riot but rather months of mass mayhem, does everything in its power to prevent the duly elected president from governing as per the will of the people, either by tying him up in sham investigations courtesy of a corrupted intelligence and law enforcement apparatus, holds two show trial impeachments, deploys politicized AG offices to financially ruin and even jail his political opponents with ludicrous misapplications of the law. Perhaps even the side that tries to assassinate a political threat?
Frum, like many in the “Never-Trumper” camp, warns us of impending “fascism” as if we are back in 1933 Germany and a bitter, eccentric Austrian corporal is about to become chancellor. But he faces one hurdle to this hyperbolic prognostication: We already had a four-year Trump administration. So then, what policies did Trump initiate that he finds to be reminiscent of the Führer or Il Duce?
Frum’s Atlantic piece shows, opposition to Trump is emotional, even personal, not analytical. Certainly not if the one who is claiming that the party of “They’ll put y’all back in chains!,” “Basket of deplorables,” “Get in their faces!,” “Put a bullseye on him,” is innocent of the heightened political tensions that define these days.
I expected lesser minds than Frum to deploy an oblique way of simply saying “Trump had it coming.” Yet, it reveals just how deep the Ceti Eel of Trump-hatred has burrowed into the mind of the DC establishment and how Frum represents their interests.
In a display of utter detachment from reality and the voters upon whom he casts academically arrogant aspersions, he claims that Trump is different than other “dictators” (evidence of which has yet to be presented). He says they have no reason to be upset and thus should not gravitate towards the proverbial P.T. Barnum-like strong man. Things are great. He writes:
<blockquote>In 2024, U.S. troops are nowhere at war. The American economy is booming, providing spectacular and widely shared prosperity. A brief spasm of mild post-pandemic inflation has been overcome. Indicators of social health <a href="https://www.epi.org/blog/average-wages-have-surpassed-inflation-for-12-straight-months/#:~:text=Average%20hourly%20wage%20growth%20has,improve%20their%20standard%20of%20living.">have abruptly</a> <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/10/us/us-violent-crime-rates-statistics/index.html">turned positive</a> since Trump left office after years of deterioration during his term. Crime and fatal drug overdoses <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/nchs_press_releases/2024/20240515.htm#:~:text=Provisional%20data%20from%20CDC's%20National,drug%20overdose%20deaths%20since%202018.">are declining</a> in 2024; <a href="https://blogs.cdc.gov/nchs/2024/03/15/7567/">marriages</a> and <a href="https://www.axios.com/2023/10/04/birth-rate-fertility-rate-decline-data-statistics-graph-2022">births</a> are rising. Even the country’s problems indirectly confirm the country’s success: Migrants are crossing the border in the hundreds of thousands, because they know, even if Americans don’t, that the U.S. job market is among the hottest on Earth.</blockquote>
Did he read this aloud? We have 750 military bases in 80 countries; servicemen recently died in Jordan. Perhaps the American economy is “booming” in the sense that the stock market is on fire. But much of the gains have been offset by rising interest rates and inflation. He calls it “A brief spasm of mild post-pandemic inflation.” Is he serious? So are Americans just imagining that their dollars today are only worth seventy-nine cents compared to just four years ago? Have wages risen 20% in that time and we missed it? As for the rest, notice everything he says is about horrific rises in crime and drug overdoses declining in 2024, as if this is Year Zero. How are the indices compared to December 2020? No matter, I’m sure he can reply with numbers tortured to say what he wants, as per the Paul Krugman approach.
Frum barely touches on the millions of illegals pouring into the country that are now swamping even his new-found Democrat allies’ <a href="https://bradschaeffer.substack.com/p/new-yorkers-are-getting-what-they">cities</a>. Indeed, for him the mass invasion is just a sign of how great things are!
And the obfuscation rolls on. This is because Frum starts with a premise that Trump is an evil dictator and his followers are too ignorant to recognize it. He then searches far and wide for data points to give his narrative legs while completely ignoring the plank in his camp’s own eyes.
Outside the beltway, however, millions of Americans have a slightly different view of things. And it is not because they are under the sway of an orange Rasputin. Rather, they live regular lives, struggling to make ends meet with a paycheck that is only 79% of what it was just four years ago, while trying to shield their kids from gender theory at school and fentanyl on the streets.
Frum does get something right. Political violence in this country is certainly nothing new. He just conveniently forgets who is the worst offender over the past decade. Setting aside the entire summer of burning cities, he curiously never mentions the Bernie Bro shooter who targeted GOP congressmen and women at a softball game, or the attacker who put Rand Paul in the hospital, or those who bombed pro-life centers, or the many instances of bloody assaults on Trump 2020 rally attendees, or the attacks on conservative speakers across college campuses. Would Frum need the same security detail to speak safely at Hillsdale College as Ben Shapiro would at U.C. Berkeley? And I wonder if he sees any nexus at all between the leader of the Senate Democrats threatening two Supreme Court Justices by name and the plot to kill one of them shortly after.
The bottom line is this: If you want to find out what your opponents are up to, look at what they are accusing you of doing. If they remain too blinded by hatred for the man who will upset their well-paying, insular DC apple cart, that’s a reflection on them, not you. Time to get up and “Fight!”

The man who attacked former House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nancy-pelosi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s</a> (D-CA) husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer in 2022 after breaking into their San Francisco home was sentenced to decades behind bars on Friday.
The sentencing comes after a federal jury in San Francisco found David DePape guilty in November on one count of assault on the immediate family member of a federal official and attempted kidnapping of a federal official.
The U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office for the Northern District of California said in a statement: &#8220;David DePape was just sentenced to 30 years in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons for his violent attack on the spouse of the then-Speaker of the House.&#8221;
A spokesperson for Pelosi said in a statement that the family &#8220;couldn&#8217;t be prouder of their Pop and his tremendous courage in saving his own life on the night of the attack and in testifying in this case.&#8221;

DePape&#8217;s defense attorneys did not dispute the attack had taken place, but focused rather on the intent, as it was central to the federal case, <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-11-16/david-depape-paul-pelosi-nancy-pelosi-attack-federal-court-verdict" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per the Los Angeles Times</a>.
They argued their client was driven by conspiracy theories, which the defendant himself repeated in testimony, and that he should not be convicted of charges tied to Rep. Pelosi&#8217;s official duties, as his alleged goal was more broadly to &#8220;root out&#8221; corruption and expose wrongdoing by the &#8220;ruling class.&#8221;
But, according to prosecutors, DePape &#8220;targeted&#8221; Pelosi because of her high-level position and opted to inflict &#8220;the punishment he meant for Nancy Pelosi&#8221; on her husband when he realized that the congresswoman was not at home — which amounted to &#8220;retaliation.&#8221;

The 12-member jury reached a unanimous verdict on both counts DePape faced after several hours of deliberations over multiple days.
U.S. Attorney Ismail Ramsey told reporters that the guilty verdict on Thursday sends a &#8220;clear message that regardless of what your beliefs are, what you cannot do is physically attack a member of Congress or their immediate family for their performance in their job,&#8221; <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/verdict-reached-paul-pelosi-hammer-attack-case-rcna125350" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NBC News reported</a>.
In addition to the federal case, DePape faces <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/david-depape-paul-pelosi-not-guilty-plea-san-francisco-nancy-pelosi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">state</a> charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, residential burglary, and threats to a public official and their family. He has <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/david-depape-paul-pelosi-not-guilty-plea-san-francisco-nancy-pelosi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pleaded not guilty</a>. The state case is scheduled to head to trial later this month.

The man accused of beating <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/paul-pelosi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paul Pelosi</a> with a hammer made a phone call on Friday afternoon from jail in which he “apologized” for not getting “more of them.” 
David DePape, a 42-year-old with a reported history of mental illness, made the comments in a <a href="https://www.ktvu.com/news/depape-in-bizarre-phone-call-to-ktvu-says-he-should-have-been-more-prepared">call</a> to KTVU reporter Amber Lee following the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-footage-of-attack-on-paul-pelosi-released" target="_blank" rel="noopener">release of the body cam</a> footage showing the police response to the break-in at the Pelosi home. 
“I have an important message for everyone in America. You’re welcome. Freedom and liberty isn’t dying, it’s being killed systematically and deliberately. The people killing it have names and addresses so I got their names and addresses so I could pay them a little visit,” DePape said in the call. 
He said that he wanted to speak with “these people” about their bad behavior. 
“I want to apologize to everyone. I messed up. What I did was really bad. I’m so sorry I didn’t get more of them. It’s my own fault, no one else is to blame. I should have come better prepared,” he said. 
DePape also claimed that his freedom of speech was being violated and pointed to his own website, which he said contained “stuff they don’t want you to hear.” He made the phone call from San Francisco County Jail, where he is being held. DePape has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/suspected-paul-pelosi-attacker-david-depape-pleads-not-guilty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pleaded not guilty</a> to charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse.
The suspect, who is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-suspect-who-attacked-paul-pelosi-is-an-illegal-immigrant-report-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> in the U.S. illegally, has been described as a troubled transient and nudist with extreme political views.
Additional security footage and the 911 call Pelosi made were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/additional-footage-emerges-showing-suspect-breaking-into-pelosi-home-911-call-released" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also released</a> on Friday, along with the police body cam footage. The 911 call appeared to show Pelosi subtly attempting to communicate to law enforcement that he was in danger as DePape was allegedly near him in the house.
“There’s a gentleman here just waiting for my wife to come back, Nancy Pelosi,” he said. “He’s just waiting for her to come back, but she’s not going to be here for days, so I guess we’ll have to wait.”
“He thinks everything’s good. I’ve got a problem, but he thinks everything’s good,” Pelosi added.
DePape, who has waived his right to a trial within 60 days, is set to appear in court again on Feb. 23.

The reason lawmakers shouldn&#8217;t be <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/stock-market" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trading stocks</a> is simple: They&#8217;re often privy to inside information that could amount to inside trading.
Former House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her husband, for instance, have made millions since she took office. Just last month, the couple sold more than $1.5 million in Alphabet stock. Then guess what happened? This month, the Department of Justice announced an antitrust lawsuit against the tech giant.
Coincidence?
The Pelosis sold 30,000 shares of Alphabet, the parent company for Google and other firms, on December 20, 21, and 28, the Daily Caller <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2023/01/25/nancy-paul-pelosi-sell-alphabet-stock-justice-department-antitrust-lawsuit/?utm_source=referral&amp;utm_medium=offthepress&amp;utm_campaign=home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The pair received between $1.5 million and $3 million for the total sale, according to a financial disclosure form Pelosi, filed on January 12. The DOJ announced its lawsuit against Alphabet on Tuesday.
Between 2007 and 2020, Pelosi and her husband saw their stock portfolio’s worth soar as much as $30 million. Paul Pelosi&#8217;s net worth is said to be more than $120 million, mostly due to his holdings in technology stocks.
Nancy and Paul Pelosi, he of the famed mugshot after his drunk driving arrest, just seem to have a knack for well-timed trades. The couple bought and sold millions in Nvidia stocks just before a bill passed that subsidized the American semiconductor industry with $280 billion. Huh. What a coincidence.
Not surprisingly, the former speaker has long opposed legislation to ban stock trading for federal lawmakers. And she&#8217;s had lots of support; plenty of other members of Congress have become millionaires, even though they make just $180,000 a year.
A <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/congress-stock-act-violations-senate-house-trading-2021-9#sen-mark-kelly-a-democrat-from-arizona-13" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> this month from Business Insider found that 49 members of Congress and 182 senior-level congressional staffers had &#8220;violated the so-called STOCK Act, which requires public disclosure by themselves and family members within 45 days of sales or purchases of individual stocks, bonds and commodity futures.&#8221;
But guess what the penalty often is for violating the act, put in place a decade ago to combat insider trading? $200. Just as often, a House or Senate ethics committee will just waive the fine, delivering little more than a weak slap on the wrist for the violation.
One Republican lawmaker has a solution, and he&#8217;s dubbed it the &#8220;PELOSI Act&#8221; — “Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments.&#8221;
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) wants to ban lawmakers &#8212; and their spouses &#8212; from owning and trading stocks while holding office.
“For too long, politicians in Washington have taken advantage of the economic system they write the rules for, turning profits for themselves at the expense of the American people,” Hawley said in a <a href="https://www.hawley.senate.gov/hawley-announces-pelosi-act-reintroduction-bill-ban-lawmakers-trading-stocks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>.
“As members of Congress, both Senators and Representatives are tasked with providing oversight of the same companies they invest in, yet they continually buy and sell stocks, outperforming the market time and again,&#8221; he said.
“While Wall Street and Big Tech work hand-in-hand with elected officials to enrich each other, hardworking Americans pay the price,&#8221; the senator said.

On Friday, the San Francisco Police Department <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-footage-of-attack-on-paul-pelosi-released" target="_blank" rel="noopener">finally released</a> bodycam footage from the night that Rep. Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s husband, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/paul-pelosi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paul</a>, was allegedly attacked by David DePape — a reported illegal alien with mental problems. Shortly after, Fox News released additional security footage appearing to show DePape smashing a window to gain entry into Pelosi&#8217;s home.
Rather than showing a gay tryst as many have speculated was really occurring, the two bits of evidence appear to show that sometimes a deranged, hammer-wielding illegal alien is just a deranged, hammer-wielding illegal alien.
DePape has been in the United States since 2008, according to government records, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/we-should-deport-pelosi-attacker-and-all-other-illegal-aliens" target="_blank" rel="noopener">overstayed a temporary visitor visa</a>. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already placed a detainer on the nudist activist. According to prosecutors, he attacked Pelosi on October 28 while attempting to kidnap his wife, who was not home at the time.
From the get-go, nothing about the story added up. Conspiracies flew and questions were raised.
Why didn&#8217;t the police respond to the incident sooner? Why didn&#8217;t Paul Pelosi run away when the door was opened after authorities got there? How come the victim spoke with DePape for so long? No security footage? Really?
It was all so weird, and rather than answers, the public was met with silence. It seemed that the San Francisco machine was rushing to cover up something obscene and embarrassing for the most powerful Democratic member of Congress.
Thanks to a court order, we can see that it might not necessarily be the case that anything beyond the official story was occurring.
The video below appears to show both DePape and Pelosi holding onto a hammer. DePape appears to grab Pelosi&#8217;s wrist, thus making it difficult for the 82-year-old Pelosi to get away. Per the video, the suspect then wrangles the hammer out of Pelosi&#8217;s right hand and proceeds to bludgeon him as police then rush into the house.

Now, if that were the only video related to this story it would be very bizarre. The questions would remain:
 Why didn&#8217;t the police rush in when they saw DePape? Is Pelosi drinking a beer? Why does it seem so nonchalant? How did DePape get in the house?
At least one of those questions can be answered thanks to Fox News.
Fox released an additional video allegedly showing that DePape seems to have broken in exactly as has been described. Based on the 9-1-1 audio, it seems as if Pelosi is trying to keep things calm while on the phone with police, so as to not anger the man standing right next to him watching his every move.

Now, if this were to happen in the middle of nowhere or in a city with law and order, then perhaps more speculation would be warranted.
Yet this occurred in San Francisco — a town that has been ruined by Democratic policies which invite insane people to live there. It&#8217;s a dump filled with weirdos. Is it really so wild to believe that a psycho who hangs on the fringes of society broke into the then-speaker&#8217;s home?

Couldn&#8217;t it be that Pelosi, an octogenarian, didn&#8217;t act as swiftly as one would expect because he&#8217;s a frail old man?
Put yourself in that position. If a guy just broke into your house, seems like he wants to potentially kill your wife, and is holding a blunt object, zip ties, and more — and you didn&#8217;t have anything to defend yourself — wouldn&#8217;t you go along with his demands just to stay alive? Or would you do something that could get yourself killed? Is it really insane to believe that you wouldn&#8217;t try to sneak a phone call to the police, and then act dumb when the person holding you hostage catches you in the act?
The real question in all of this is why did NBC News suspend reporter Miguel Almaguer for an entirely accurate reporting of the story? Almageur published a video, which would have gone through editors and producers, detailing what happened. He was then subsequently suspended, the video was scrubbed, and all the public was told was that it didn&#8217;t meet editorial standards.

It seems likely that Almaguer&#8217;s reporting didn&#8217;t meet editorial standards because Nancy, presumably, didn&#8217;t want any coverage of the incident for whatever reason.
But as for the DePape situation, as Sigmund Freud reportedly said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. There may not be anything else to it.

Law enforcement officials released additional footage on Friday that allegedly showed suspect David DePape breaking into the home of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) late last year.
A San Francisco judge ordered that the footage be made public after a coalition of news outlets filed a motion to release the footage on January 11.
The clip allegedly showing DePape breaking into the home featured him dropping bags onto the ground, going through them to find a hammer, and then taking the hammer to smash in the glass door.

In the 911 call, Paul Pelosi appeared to subtly attempt to communicate to law enforcement that he was in danger as DePape was allegedly near him in the house.

The clip that garnered by far the most interest was the police body camera footage that was released which showed Paul Pelosi being attacked.
The footage shows police knocking on the door of the home before either Pelosi or DePape opened it.
“What’s going on man?” an officer asks.
“Everything is good,” DePape responds as he wrestled for control of a hammer with Pelosi.
“Drop the hammer!” the officer then says.
“Umm, nope,” DePape responded before gaining control of the hammer and striking Pelosi.
“Oh, s—!” one of the officers says as police rushed in to stop DePape during the attack.

Authorities said that San Francisco police entered the Pelosi residence around 2:30 a.m. local time on the night of the attack. An assailant and Pelosi struggled over a hammer, and then the assailant “violently” assaulted Pelosi, the police said.
After the attack, Pelosi was taken to a hospital where he underwent “successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi said at the time.
DePape broke into the house shouting “Where’s Nancy?” a court affidavit said.
DePape told first responders at the scene that he was sick of the “level of lies” from politicians in Washington, D.C., and “came here to have a little chat with [Paul Pelosi’s] wife,” according to a court filing.
“I didn’t really want to hurt him, but you know this was a suicide mission. I’m not going to stand here and do nothing even if it cost me my life,” DePape said, according to the filing.
DePape allegedly intended to attack other high profile figures as well. Police said DePape intended to target President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and actor Tom Hanks.

Former House Speaker <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/nancy-pelosi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nancy Pelosi</a> (D-CA) disclosed a sale of 30,000 shares in <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/google" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Google&#8217;s</a> parent company, Alphabet, roughly one month before the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/department-of-justice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Justice Department</a> opened an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/antitrust" target="_blank" rel="noopener">antitrust</a> lawsuit into the technology firm.
Federal regulators <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/justice-department-sues-google-for-alleged-digital-advertising-monopoly" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claimed</a> in the Tuesday complaint that Google monopolizes the tools website publishers use to sell advertisements and that companies utilize to purchase advertisements. Pelosi, who resigned from her leadership position but remains a member of Congress, sold 10,000 shares of Alphabet Class A stock on December 20, December 21, and December 28, according to federal <a href="https://disclosures-clerk.house.gov/public_disc/ptr-pdfs/2023/20022260.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">disclosures</a>, marking a combined transaction value between $1.5 million and $3 million. The disclosures were digitally signed by the lawmaker on January 12.
Although shares for Google have increased roughly 8% over the past month, the company’s stock price declined some 6% this week as news of the antitrust lawsuit became public.
Officials claimed that Google has engaged in a “pattern of acquisitions to obtain control over key digital advertising tools” and has manipulated auctions to “deprive rivals of scale.” Such moves may violate the Sherman Act, which outlaws “monopolization, attempted monopolization, or conspiracy or combination to monopolize” deemed <a href="https://www.ftc.gov/advice-guidance/competition-guidance/guide-antitrust-laws/antitrust-laws" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unreasonable</a> by the court system. Google said in a statement that the Justice Department lawsuit attempts to “pick winners and losers” in the “highly competitive” advertising technology space.
Pelosi and her husband, Paul, have been repeatedly accused of leveraging insider knowledge that the veteran lawmaker holds in order to increase earnings in the stock market. The filing also revealed that the top Democrat sold shares of Netflix, PayPal, Salesforce, Tesla, and Disney.
Paul Pelosi appeared to have cut losses in software company Nvidia last year before the United States placed new restrictions on computer chip sales to China and Russia. He sold 25,000 shares of Nvidia on July 26 at an average price of $165.05, causing a loss of $341,365, according to a set of <a href="https://disclosures-clerk.house.gov/public_disc/ptr-pdfs/2022/20021438.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">disclosures</a>. One month later, Nvidia revealed that the government imposed export restrictions on the company’s A100 and forthcoming H100 circuits. The new regulations will “address the risk that the covered products may be used in, or diverted to, a ‘military end use’ or ‘military end user’ in China and Russia,” Nvidia said in a regulatory <a href="https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0001045810/000104581022000146/nvda-20220826.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filing</a>.
The couple has also placed stock market bets in the middle of heated policy debates in Congress. In 2021, Paul Pelosi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pelosis-husband-makes-big-tech-stock-moves-again-places-6-million-bet-as-congress-looks-to-rein-in-silicon-valley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bought</a> over $6 million in options contracts related to technology stocks while lawmakers worked on antitrust legislation.
Asset purchases from members of Congress and their immediate families amounted to $267 million in 2021, according to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sat-members-of-congress-and-their-families-traded-over-630-million-in-stocks-this-year" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from the New York Times’ DealBook, while sales amounted to $364 million. Officials working at the Federal Reserve have also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/after-ethics-review-fed-bars-top-officials-from-trading-individual-stocks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faced criticism</a> for purchasing individual stocks amid their work to chart the nation’s monetary policy.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sen-hawleys-insider-trading-bill-returns-to-congress-under-new-title-pelosi-act" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> the Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments Act, also known as the PELOSI Act, in order to address the phenomenon of lawmakers using inside information to benefit financially. The legislation would ban politicians from holding individual stocks, diversified mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds. “For too long, politicians in Washington have taken advantage of the economic system they write the rules for, turning profits for themselves at the expense of the American people,” Hawley said in a <a href="https://twitter.com/abigailmarone/status/1617934984568012800" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news release</a>.
