Bill Maher had to school Patton Oswalt on what the Democratic Party has said about certain topics, accusing him of being in a “Bluesky bubble” and not knowing what’s going on.
The conversation took place during Monday’s episode of the “Club Random” podcast, as Maher complained that liberals were leaning too far left and embracing increasingly radical policies. “The Left freaked out about a lot of bullsh**,” Maher said. “Gender, race, parenthood, schools, homelessness, crime, the border, education. We stopped being a scientific people.”
“But the Left certainly stayed scientific,” Oswalt insisted.
“No, they didn’t,” Maher replied, to which Oswalt asked, “Why not?”
“Because they think gender bullsh** that they went way too far with … What makes us a great country is that we respect minorities. We don’t think they’re lesser just because they’re lesser in numbers. That’s not what we started to teach, which was that every baby is — I don’t know — let’s not even put it on the birth certificate. That’s what they wanted.”
 “When were we teaching that?” Oswalt asked.
“Teaching it — it was a law here in California,” Maher explained. “Don’t put sex on the birth certificate. ‘We’ll see.’ Now, we’ve passed that period now.”
Oswalt said he didn’t remember that, prompting Maher to shoot back, “Because it doesn’t get in the Bluesky bubble.”

At another point in the conversation, Maher asked Oswalt his opinion on immigration from Muslim countries and the negative effects it’s had on certain places, using the example of grooming gangs in the U.K. 
Maher asked the comedian if he knew about Pakistani grooming gangs, prompting Oswalt to jokingly ask if Maher was talking about the British royal family.
“See, that’s a big story. This is in the UK. That went on from like the 80s to the present … I’m talking about Pakistani men, who are immigrants, who were grooming poor, impoverished, white girls mostly and making them into prostitutes and sex slaves and like really nasty sh** that would pass for more normal in a traditional Pakistani society where women are not considered equal citizens,” Maher explained.
When asked how he could miss the story, Oswalt said he got his news from The Guardian and that it hadn’t been featured there. 
Maher has been vocally frustrated with the extremes of his party recently and has made enemies on the Left by calling them out for it. But he’s not fully red-pilled yet. At another point in the conversation, Maher claimed that representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) would be a “fantastic candidate” for the White House if she “had some deprogramming.”

Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher said on a recent podcast episode that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had the potential to be a great presidential candidate — but only if the self-described Democratic socialist went through some &#8220;deprogramming&#8221; first.
Maher made the comments on his &#8220;Club Random&#8221; podcast while speaking with fellow comedian Patton Oswalt, and the two immediately disagreed over how far was &#8220;too far&#8221; when it came to the direction of the American political Left.

&#8220;Remember when [Republicans] found the &#8216;damning&#8217; video of AOC dancing and drinking with her friends on the roof in college, and she looks so happy and beautiful and cool,” Oswalt asked. “Oh, they think it&#8217;s ending her career because they never did this. They were never that comfortable to do this.&#8221;
Maher&#8217;s reply was simple: &#8220;Yeah, and if she had some deprogramming, she could be such a fantastic candidate.&#8221;
&#8220;What do you mean deprogramming?” Oswalt seemed taken aback.
&#8220;She’s never going to resonate with people outside of the bubble that she lives in and the very far Left,&#8221; Maher explained. He went on to cite a recent New York Times editorial, adding, &#8220;The only way the Democrats will ever win again …  is to be more moderate.&#8221;
Oswalt disagreed: &#8220;If people think she’s too far Left, then that shows another way this country is broken right now.&#8221;
Maher pushed back, saying that the country wasn&#8217;t &#8220;broken&#8221; — it just wasn&#8217;t as far Left as AOC.
Oswalt argued that if average Americans were not in line with AOC, that was because the country as a whole was not as &#8220;intelligent&#8221; as most people believed, and argued that the Left had followed science rather than blindly adhering to policies.
Maher was not buying that, however, and said so: &#8220;No, they didn’t! … they think gender bull***t that they went way too far with. That’s not scientific.&#8221;

A gaggle of notable names have ridiculed ICE for daring to enforce the nation’s immigration laws — laws supported by a majority of U.S. voters.
The agents, to date, have mostly focused on the worst offenders. Think illegal immigrants accused of heinous crimes who managed to remain free during the Biden administration.
Now, they’re being targeted by President Trump’s no-nonsense border czar Tom Homan. And progressive stars are raging everywhere they can against Team Homan. Late-night TV. Social media. Interviews.

Stephen King played <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:h7obn4tkp47wn7gqh4oe5eij/post/3lrxwo2xx322u?ref_src=embed">the Nazi card</a> against ICE officials from the progressive Utopia known as BlueSky, including a misspell of “Gestapo.”

Comedian Patton Oswalt used less incendiary rhetoric, by comparison, to light up ICE during a recent “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” appearance.
Oswalt called them “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YISQeVMl7RE">Pillsbury Stormtroopers</a>,” comparing their alleged physiques to his own lumpy form.
<blockquote>Your knees are hurting, your hips are screaming, and your back is aching … And you’re thinking, ‘Why didn’t I just stay home and play Red Dead Redemption and eat Sun Chips instead of coming out here in the heat where everyone’s booing me and I’m realizing that I’m the biggest douchebag on the planet?’</blockquote>
Oswalt’s rhetoric grew uglier when it came to Trump’s border czar. The “Ratatouille” star, after hearing about death threats tied to Homan, weighed in <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:bwvd55e4hsxpuxa5ikrfgqgo/post/3lshyjaky722d?ref_src=embed">via BlueSky</a>.

The far-Left hosts at “The View” couldn’t let the ICE raids go unnoticed. The ABC squad saw the chaos encircling Los Angeles earlier this month during the open borders protests and found the <a href="https://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/nicholas-fondacaro/2025/06/10/view-la-riots-were-peaceful-days-ice-brought-crisis">source of the problem</a>.
They pointed to the ICE agents, not the protesters burning cars and hurling bricks at law enforcement officers.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg says the city’s pro-illegal immigration rallies were “mostly peaceful” until ICE agents arrived on the scene. She leaned on impeccable sources for her wisdom.

Sunny Hostin chimed in, playing the “mostly peaceful” card and backing up Goldberg’s anti-ICE assessment.
Credit pop superstar Lizzo with the most deranged take on the matter.
She claimed “illegal” immigrants <a href="https://news.meaww.com/lizzo-sparks-backlash-over-no-such-thing-as-illegal-no-borders-anti-ice-rant-avoid-this-thinking">aren’t real</a> because no one actually owns land.
<blockquote>When people finally understand that these terms and ideas are tools for racism and capitalism we can truly be free. We can finally see the oppressors for who they are.</blockquote>
Sometimes, profanity is a celebrity’s best friend. Take Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny. He <a href="https://variety.com/2025/music/news/bad-bunny-calls-out-ice-video-puerto-rico-raids-1236434813/">blasted ICE agents</a> as “motherf****rs” in a Spanish screed on Instagram, tied to a video of agents interrogating unnamed people.
“Look, those motherf——s are in these cars, RAV-4s. They’re here in Pontezuela,” he posted in Spanish.

Not to be outdone, “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert didn’t step in when one of his guests promoted extreme rhetoric from the show’s signature CBS couch. Instead, he piled on.
Congressman Maxwell Frost (D-FL) told the far-Left host ICE agents are <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2025/06/20/stephen-colbert-parrots-dem-rep-max-frosts-claim-ice-illegal-alien-arrests-look-like-kidnapping/">“kidnapping people.”</a>
<blockquote>We have ICE federal agents pulling up, terrorizing our communities, hopping out of unmarked vans, stealing and yes, kidnapping people, not giving them their day in court and yes, human trafficking them to other nations.</blockquote>
Colbert nodded along, doubling down on the kidnapping verbiage.

Veteran singer Shakira leaned into the fear-mongering part of the celebrity playbook, also conflating legal and illegal immigration during a BBC interview.
She described the immigrant experience as “<a href="https://variety.com/2025/music/news/shakira-immigrant-united-states-constant-fear-1236432560/">living in constant fear</a>.”
<blockquote>Now, more than ever, we have to remain united. Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane.</blockquote>
Mark Ruffalo, one of the most outspoken stars in the Hollywood galaxy, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/mark-ruffalo-jimmy-kimmel-more-stars-protests-no-kings-1236291157/">railed against ICE efforts</a> during California’s “No Kings” June 14 protest.
<blockquote>We see a president who has made himself a king and dictator, and we don’t see an opposition that’s powerful enough to stand up against the trampling of our rights and the trampling of the Constitution that’s happening every single day with executive orders, with the refusal to obey court orders, kidnapping of immigrants, people who are here legally, people who their children are being taken from them.</blockquote>

Celebrity Nation decried the January 6 riot and demanded protesters pay a stiff price for battling beleaguered Capitol Police officers. Things are different now, apparently. They could have objected to ICE raids on different grounds, suggesting that hard-working illegals should find a path to citizenship, not a one-way ticket out of the U.S.
Instead, in the grand “Spinal Tap” tradition, they turned the incendiary rhetoric up to 11.
Worst of all, none of this is happening in a vacuum. The Department of Homeland Security says attacks on ICE agents have shot up <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/assaults-on-ice-agents-increase-500?author=Catherine+Maxwell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Assaults+on+ICE+Agents+Increase+500%25">500% in recent weeks</a>. ICE agents are routinely doxxed, forcing them to mask up to protect their loved ones.
The stars won’t stop their incendiary rhetoric, apparently, even if it gets someone hurt. Or worse.

Actor and comedian <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/patton-oswalt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Patton Oswalt</a> said the quiet part out loud on Tuesday when he admitted that what most people were consuming on a daily basis was not “the news,” but rather “the news business.”
Oswalt made the comments during an appearance on ABC’s midday talk show “The View,” where he also noted that a lot of the heightened dramatics of “the news” were designed to attract viewers rather than to tell them the truth.

Oswalt has been promoting his new show &#8220;Manhunt,&#8221; which digs into the aftermath of President Abraham Lincoln&#8217;s assassination and the search for his killer, and he joined the hosts of &#8220;The View&#8221; to discuss it.
&#8220;Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s kind of reassuring about watching a show like &#8216;Manhunt,&#8217; is that — we have been way closer to the brink than we are now,&#8221; Oswalt began. &#8220;I think that right now that the news portrays things — because a lot of times, you are being exposed to the news business rather than the news.&#8221;
Several of the cohosts voiced their agreement with Oswalt&#8217;s assessment before he continued: &#8220;The business is about getting eyes on that screen. So they do have to make it seem like &#8216;there&#8217;s no way back from this.'&#8221;
&#8220;But we&#8217;ve been way closer, leaning over the abyss, and we&#8217;ve pulled ourselves back with way less technology and knowledge than we have now,&#8221; Oswalt added.
Cohost Joy Behar interrupted then, arguing that technology could be part of the problem.
&#8220;Any technology has its good use, its malign use, and then, &#8216;Oh, whoops&#8217; — you know, you can use an ax to cut wood and build a fire, you can also drop it and cut your toe off, and you can murder someone with it,&#8221; Oswalt replied, arguing that technology was just the tool and the hand wielding it determined whether its use would be for good or bad. &#8220;So it depends on how you use that technology.&#8221;

Famed &#8220;Tonight Show&#8221; host Johnny Carson once said he didn&#8217;t want to reveal his political views because he didn&#8217;t want to alienate viewers. And he famously took aim at both parties in his nightly monologue, realizing that politics is simply funny.
Very few comedians these days do that. Think of all the late-night hosts, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Myers, Stephen Colbert. And some stand-up comedians, like Patton Oswalt, are vicious to anyone who doesn&#8217;t think exactly like them.
But Bill Maher is different. Maher, whose comedy career was flagging when he morphed into a political talk show host back in the mid-1990s, has become a rare specimen &#8212; a comedian who targets both sides.
The 66-year-old funnyman, who hosted &#8220;Politically Incorrect&#8221; from 1992 to 2002 and has headlined &#8220;Real Time&#8221; on HBO since 2003, has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2001/10/08/business/bill-maher-still-secure-in-abc-slot-at-least-now.html">described</a> himself as a liberal and a libertarian.
But he also <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/bill-maher-to-piers-morgan-palin-can-absolutely-win-in-2012-but-hed-vote-for-bachmann/">calls</a> himself &#8220;practical.&#8221; That means he can see the humor that pours from turkeyneck Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) just as well as the buffoonery of 147-year-old House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
So it was not unusual &#8212; although it drew headlines across the country &#8212; when Maher said President Joe Biden needs to get rid of Vice President Kamala Harris if he decides to run again in 2024.
“It’s very hard to take the nomination away from the president,” Maher said. “What I could see is replacing the vice president because she’s not very popular anywhere. And it didn’t seem to work out. And I don’t know. That’s been done before in a ticket.”
A guest on his HBO show, left-wing The Atlantic writer Caitlin Flanagan, agreed, saying Harris was not only an “off-putting person,” but that she also has “a lot of baggage that probably wouldn’t do well under a lot of scrutiny.”
But Maher went further. “I just think she’s a bad politician. And I don’t … I think she’s a very bright person. But I can see them doing that because a lot of the problem with Biden being old is, ‘Oh, if he dies then you know you’re gonna get this person.’&#8221;
&#8220;OK, so here’s the problem with the Democratic Party. They’re so boxed in by identity politics that you cannot conceive of a Democratic ticket that doesn’t have a woman and person of color on it. And pretty soon you’re gonna line up behind that gay Latino and you’re gonna have to have, you know, a deaf Eskimo be the [nominee].&#8221;
It didn&#8217;t take long for Harris to prove Maher right. The day after his weekly show, the vice president said federal relief for the victims of Hurricane Ian would be based on &#8220;equity&#8221; and prioritize people in &#8220;communities of color.&#8221;
&#8220;It is our lowest income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions and impacted by issues that are not of their own making,&#8221; Harris said.
Maher regularly targets young liberals for their “progressophobia,” which he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-maher-mocks-woke-liberals-for-their-belief-in-whiteness-as-a-malady">said</a> in 2021 has resulted in “a growing belief in whiteness as a malady and white people as irredeemable.”
“There is a recurrent theme on the far left that things have never been worse,” Maher said. &#8220;[Comedian] Kevin Hart expressed a view many hold when he told The New York Times, ‘You’re witnessing white power and white privilege at an all-time high.’&#8221;
&#8220;This is one of the big problems with wokeness — that what you say doesn’t have to make sense or jibe with the facts or ever be challenged, lest the challenge itself be conflated with racism. But saying white power and privilege is at an all-time high is just ridiculous,&#8221; he said.

Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt groveled to a mob after he came under fire for posting a photo Saturday with colleague and long-time friend Dave Chappelle.
When the much-more successful Chappelle realized Oswalt had booked a gig nearby his arena show in Seattle, he invited Oswalt to drop by for a guest appearance. Oswalt agreed and the two snapped a photo together that Oswalt later posted on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CYLfUrXrhod/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">Instagram</a> with a caption praising Chappelle’s comedic brilliance.
“Finished me set at @mccawhall and got a text from @davechappelle,” he wrote. “Come over to the arena he’s performing in next door and do a guest set. Why not? I waved good-bye to this hell-year with a genius I started comedy with 34 years ago. He works an arena like he’s talking to one person and charming their skin off. Anyway, I ended the year with a real friend and a deep laugh. Can’t ask for much more.”
But Oswalt’s gratitude for his fellow comedian’s friendship proved to be short-lived. The next day, after some of his followers accused him of being anti-trans for posing with Chappelle, he apologized, saying, “I’m sorry, truly sorry, that I didn’t consider the hurt this would cause. Or the DEPTH of that hurt. Ugh. So easy to think someone ELSE needs growth and miss the need in yourself. Gonna keep trying.”
While he still affirmed their friendship, he also made a point to distance himself from Chappelle’s views — implying that he agrees that the jokes the comedy legend told in his Netflix special “The Closer” were transphobic and harmful to the transgender community:

Oswalt has arguably made more headlines for his political rants on Twitter than his comedy routines in recent years. As The Daily Wire reported, he has frequently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/patton-oswalt-responds-trumps-boy-scout-speech-elliott-hamilton">sounded</a> <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/patton-oswalt-implodes-after-trump-presser-chase-stephens">off</a> on former President Donald Trump and his supporters and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/samantha-bee-and-patton-oswalt-mock-pro-life-amanda-prestigiacomo">mocked</a> pro-life centers.
In 2019, he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/blue-checkmarks-delete-tweets-defaming-covington-ashe-schow">joined</a> an online mob himself, attacking the students from Covington Catholic over erroneous reports that they ridiculed an elderly Native American man during a D.C. field trip. When it was revealed that the reports were incorrect, Oswalt deleted a thread he retweeted that revealed personal information about teen Nicholas Sandmann.
He also posted a <a href="https://twitter.com/pattonoswalt/status/1086691179855400960?s=20">photo</a> of Sandmann alongside the comment, “THIS leering, privileged little sh**” and <a href="https://twitter.com/pattonoswalt/status/1086819003652136960?s=20">called</a> the Covington students a “horde of bland, frightened, forgettable kids who&#8217;ll grow up to be bland, frightened, forgotten adult wastes.”
He has never apologized for these posts.

&#8220;Roughly 22 million Americans are out of work,&#8221; tweeted one user. &#8220;There are news reports of miles-long lines of cars at food distribution centers. People aren&#8217;t asking for restrictions to be lifted so they can go to Fuddruckers, they are doing so b/c they want to earn money to eat.&#8221;
&#8220;This is extremely elitist, many of these people are out of work and on their last leg,&#8221; tweeted another. &#8220;Yes, if you are part of the lucky few who are able to work from home or have jobs that are essential it seems this easy. Millions of Americans are struggling right now&#8230; come on Patton!&#8221;
&#8220;The wealthy comedian would like you to know that he and Anne Frank are morally superior to the ignorant and tasteless peasants who want their jobs and businesses back,&#8221; tweeted another.
Despite the blowback, Patton Oswalt did have his share of defenders, many of whom denounced the protesters as being selfish in the face of a pandemic.
&#8220;These are people that are screaming that staying home to avoid us all dying in a pandemic is &#8216;totalitarian control&#8217; &amp; ‘infringing on their rights&#8217; &amp; carry signs decrying not being able to go to the salon or beach or shit. They are not economic freedom fighters,&#8221; tweeted one defender of Oswalt.
&#8220;To the people shouting &#8216;but the economy&#8217; and &#8216;what about the unemployment&#8217; &#8230; Please be mad at wage gaps that cause people to operate on such razor-thin margins that missing two paychecks causes a survival crisis,&#8221; tweeted another. &#8220;People shouldn’t have to choose between safety and security. It doesn’t have to be this way.&#8221;
A feud later erupted between Oswalt and Fox News host Greg Gutfeld as the two traded grating insults.

This past week, the $349 billion SBA loan fund for small businesses passed with the COVID-19 stimulus package <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/finance/492919-small-business-loan-program-runs-out-of-funds-amid-debate-over-new-bill">ran out of money</a>. Republicans and Democrats have since been debating how to replenish it.

Following President Trump&#8217;s <a href="http://time.com/4872118/trump-boy-scout-jamboree-speech-transcript/">highly controversial speech</a> at the Boy Scout Jamboree, many members of the media and the Left went so far as to compare it to a <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/hitler-trump-germany-nazi-president-641392">Hitler Youth rally</a>. During the speech, Trump made it partisan by trashing Democrats and Republicans, breaking away from the tradition of talking about public service or giving back to the United States. The Left, which has a long history of <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/12978/lgbt-scouts-boy-scouts-allow-girls-who-identify-ben-shapiro">targeting the Boy Scouts</a>, responded to Trump&#8217;s speech with its usual outrage.
So-called &#8220;comedian&#8221; Patton Oswalt used the speech to issue a series of vulgar tweets that objectified women, particularly First Lady Melania Trump.

Oswalt, in an attempt to mock Trump&#8217;s history of misogynistic comments, did precisely what the Left claims to hate Trump for doing: objectifying women rather than treating them as equitable human beings. The difference, of course, is that this is supposed to be &#8220;comedy&#8221; meant to make Trump seem like a colossal jackass. However, Oswalt only demonstrates that it is only okay to treat women as objects if it is intended to make the Right look bad.
There are plenty of legitimate criticisms against Trump&#8217;s speech. This completely missed the mark.
