&#8220;Wheel of Fortune&#8221; has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-host-chosen-to-succeed-pat-sajak-on-wheel-of-fortune" target="_blank" rel="noopener">chosen a new host</a> – &#8220;American Idol&#8221; alum Ryan Seacrest, according to a Tuesday statement from Sony – but outgoing host Pat Sajak&#8217;s longtime letter-turner Vanna White, 66, may or may not be ready to join him.
According to a <a href="https://puck.news/vanna-white-would-like-a-raise/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Puck News, White, 66, hired an attorney last week amid claims that she had not had a pay raise in nearly two decades. The report claimed that White, who has been turning the iconic letters since 1982, has been stalled at $3 million per year for the last 18 years – occasionally receiving bonuses rather than pay raises. Sajak, in contrast, pulled in $15 million annually for hosting the show – according to a Forbes <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/natalierobehmed/2016/10/06/the-worlds-highest-paid-tv-show-hosts-dr-phil-leads-with-88-million/?sh=74425167343b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> published in 2016.
White hired attorney Bryan Freedman, known for his aggressive representation of television personalities against their respective networks. Freedman <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/25/business/media/carlson-lemon-lawyer-freedman.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made headlines</a> recently when he was reportedly hired to represent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tucker-carlson-and-don-lemon-hire-the-same-attorney-after-both-were-fired-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ousted cable news hosts</a> Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon against Fox News and CNN, respectively.
White&#8217;s contract is up at the end of the 2023-2024 season, and Freedman is expected to &#8220;hit the pay discrepancy issue hard &#8230; as well as possible gender discrimination with respect to White’s salary&#8221; if Sony Pictures wants to keep her on the show.
White has not yet commented on Seacrest&#8217;s announcement, but the the former &#8220;Live with Kelly and Ryan&#8221; host made it clear that he was looking forward to the new gig.

Seacrest&#8217;s post comes after the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/27/business/media/ryan-seacrest-wheel-of-fortune.html?partner=slack&amp;smid=sl-share" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> reported on Tuesday that the 48-year-old media personality — who&#8217;d been considered a top contender for the job among speculators — would be the next host of the game show in 2024.

It’s a six-letter verb that’s also a state of mind.
“Wheel of Fortune” fans are reluctantly solving the puzzle following longtime host Pat Sajak’s stunning announcement.
The 76-year-old game show legend will “RETIRE” following the show’s 41st season, capping more than four decades entertaining audiences with the show’s signature brain teasers.
Forty-one years entering America’s living room on a daily basis. No scandals. No calls to replace the longtime host or attempts to cancel him for the wrong phrasing or off-screen antics. (the outrage over an <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2022/09/18/wheel-of-fortune-host-pat-sajak-photo-marjorie-taylor-greene/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">undated photo taken with Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene</a> gathered no real momentum)
It’s a stunning resume on any level, but it’s even more impressive given the tenor of the times and Sajak’s political leanings. He’s a conservative, although rarely one to throw sharp elbows at his ideological opponents either on screen or on social media.
Sajak’s understated sense of humor served him well over the decades, right through his retirement tweet:

Those lucky enough to follow Sajak on Twitter (he has a robust 375K following) know the Emmy winner’s sardonic wit is a key reason for his success. He made self-deferential humor his calling card, using social media to make Right-leaning comments even Rachel Maddow might find funny.
He could summon hot-button issues and deploy them with just enough edge to make his thoughts known, sans anger. Sarcasm often doesn’t translate well to social media, but that never stopped Sajak from making his point.

Viewers saw his warm, reassuring presence as a rare port in a culture war storm. Many aren’t aware of his political leanings, and he kept that up by staying true to his apolitical mien when the “Wheel” cameras clicked on.
At its peak, “Wheel of Fortune” drew <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/12/arts/television/pat-sajak-retire-wheel-of-fortune.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more than 40 million daily viewers</a>, a sum no longer possible given the splintered TV landscape. The show’s nine million daily viewers, though, remains a staggering figure for a veteran showcase.
He’s taking a step back on his own terms, and at a time when his game show bona fides remain rock solid.
Fellow host Alex Trebek’s decades-long career as the host of “Jeopardy” came to an end following his terminal cancer diagnosis. Trebek and Sajak have plenty in common. They both made viewers feel at ease for years, embraced their shows’ simple pleasures and respected audiences for being so loyal despite the countless competition found on the modern TV landscape.
It’s why news that Whoopi Goldberg is <a href="https://www.kristv.com/whoopi-goldberg-says-she-wants-to-be-new-wheel-of-fortune-host" target="_blank" rel="noopener">angling to replace Sajak</a> feels … wrong. Goldberg, best known of late for co-hosting TV’s most mean-spirited chat-fest, “The View,” would swiftly divide the show’s faithful audience.
A far better choice may be in the mix already. Ryan Seacrest is reportedly <a href="https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/ryan-seacrest-in-talks-to-replace-pat-sajak-on-wheel-of-fortune/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in talks to take the game show baton</a> from Sajak. Like his predecessor, Seacrest isn’t a political flame thrower, and he understands how to unite viewers from both red and blue states.
Chances are he won’t match Sajak, who perfected his role and became an institution at a time when fewer stars are able, or even willing, to fulfill that role. 
Many stars today aggressively embrace their political leanings, using every bully pulpit possible to spread them far and wide. That’s no crime, but it does alienate large swathes of the audience depending on the ideological party in question.
Not Sajak.
Yes, he’s quietly been the chairman of the Board of Trustees at Hillsdale College, where traditional values thrive. And he’s served as an external director at Eagle Publishing. You’d never know it watching him cheer on contestants or gently tease those who, on occasion, allow a brain cramp to stop them from solving the puzzle du jour.
Not everyone is feting Sajak’s retirement. A bitter piece by The New Republic slammed Sajak as a “<a href="https://newrepublic.com/post/173587/pat-sajak-wheel-of-fortune-right-wing-host" target="_blank" rel="noopener">die-hard Right-wing host</a>” even though he never brought his politics onto the “Wheel of Fortune” stage. It’s a primer in “guilt-by-association” personal attacks, balanced out by the equally far-Left Vice. That outlet <a href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/mv53x8/pat-sajaks-crazy-right-wing-tweets-are-weirdly-admirable" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tried and mostly failed</a> to publish a hit piece on him a while ago.

Others brought up a rare tone-deaf tweet he issued, and later retracted, calling global warming alarmists “unpatriotic racists.” It’s possible it was part of a larger comic tweet thread given how it clashes with his steady public persona.
And, to be fair, the average liberal celebrity hurls far worse at Red State denizens on a daily basis.
Sajak hinted at his recent retirement news last year, understanding even beloved institutions have a limited shelf life. His comments suggested both why he’s endured for so long and why <a href="https://www.etonline.com/pat-sajak-says-end-is-near-on-him-hosting-wheel-of-fortune-after-40-years-exclusive-190962" target="_blank" rel="noopener">viewers of all political stripes</a> came to appreciate his all-American appeal.
&#8220;&#8230; It&#8217;s an honor to have been in people&#8217;s living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We&#8217;re happy and proud.&#8221;
It’s a downright conservative message in 2023, though it was something everyone could cheer had he said it during his first few years with the show.
Here’s betting even progressive “Wheel of Fortune” fans will miss both him and that attitude when he hangs up his game show mic.

&#8220;Wheel of Fortune&#8221; host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pat-sajak" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pat Sajak</a> appeared to get playfully physical with a contestant on Tuesday&#8217;s show, and fans took to social media to ask what in the world was going on.
During the popular game show, one contestant named Fred revealed he was a professional wrestler. He admitted that he wrestles strictly &#8220;for the fun&#8221; because he got paid &#8220;very little,&#8221; <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/wheel-fortune-host-pat-sajak-tackles-contestant-bizarre-moment-fans-puzzled" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> reported.
In the clip shared on social media by the game show, Fred nailed one puzzle after another before making it to the final round. The 76-year-old Sajak then asked the other players if he should &#8220;body slam&#8221; Fred.
&#8220;Just because he&#8217;s a professional wrestler… you want me to body slam him for you?&#8221; Sajak asked the other contestants, who responded, &#8220;yes.&#8221;
&#8220;I can do that for you,&#8221; he replied.
However, it wasn&#8217;t until Fred made it to the Bonus Round that things took a bizarre turn.

After Fred successfully solves the final puzzle and wins $75,800, Sajak returns to the screen and appears to jokingly perform a wrestling move on him.
Viewers see Sajak take Fred&#8217;s arm behind his back and grab the contestant&#8217;s face with his other hand. It appeared he was mimicking an attempt to put the wrestler in a headlock.
Social media users who watched the show asked what Sajak was doing.
&#8220;What was with Pat at the end?&#8221; one account posted.

In the same interview, Harry said he tried to keep conversations and family drama private, but claims that, ultimately, he was forced to go public to protect his reputation.

The 65-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">game show</a> mainstay discussed how she felt about possibly moving on from her role during an interview with <a href="https://people.com/tv/vanna-white-end-of-wheel-of-fortune-with-pat-sajak-is-depressing-to-think-about/">People</a>. While “Wheel of Fortune” host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pat-sajak">Pat Sajak</a> has hinted at the idea of retiring soon, White admits that she’s reluctant to leave. The pair have been part of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">show</a> since 1982.
&#8220;I think when [show creator] Merv Griffin chose both of us, 40 and 41 years ago, he saw something between us — a brother-sister type relationship,&#8221; White shared in the interview. &#8220;And I think that is kind of what it is. He saw that we would be able to get along, and we do. We are like a brother and sister team.&#8221;
Sajak said in 2021 that he and White were &#8220;closer to the end than the beginning&#8221; of their hosting career. The pair have signed on for the 2023-2024 season at least, but the future beyond that is unknown.

Overall, White is pleased to have a career she’s still excited about even four decades later. 
&#8220;It&#8217;s incredible. I cannot believe it&#8217;s been 40 years. Honestly, I&#8217;ve loved every minute of it,&#8221; the mom of two told People. &#8220;Who still says they love their job after 40 years? Me! I really do. It&#8217;s a fun show. Meanwhile, Sajak seems a lot more open to retiring soon.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pat-sajak" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pat Sajak</a>, the popular host of “Wheel of Fortune,” revealed during an interview this week that the “end is near” for him hosting the show.
The 75-year-old entertainer, who has hosted the show for 41 years, made the remarks during a Thursday interview with Entertainment Tonight.
&#8220;In most television shows by this time, you would have said, &#8216;That’s probably enough,&#8217; but this show will not die,&#8221; Sajak <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/09/16/pat-sajack-reveals-wheel-of-fortune-retirement-the-end-is-near/">said</a>. &#8220;It appears I may go before the show.&#8221;
&#8220;Years go by fast. We&#8217;re getting near the end. It&#8217;s been a long [time]. We&#8217;re not gonna do this for another 40 years. The end is near,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;It&#8217;s an honor to have been in people&#8217;s living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We&#8217;re happy and proud.&#8221;
Sajak and co-host Vanna White said that they are focused on the upcoming premiere of their third season of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
Wheel of Fortune first aired back in 1975 with Sajak becoming its host six years later in 1981. White was hired the following year and the two have co-hosted the show ever since.
In an interview last year, Sajak <a href="https://www.today.com/popculture/tv/pat-sajak-opens-stop-hosting-wheel-fortune-rcna2261">hinted</a> that his time on the show was starting to wind down even though he and White had just signed new contracts to stay on through the 2023-2024 season.
“We’re certainly closer to the end than the beginning,” Sajak said last year. “I’d like to leave before people tune in and look at me and say, ‘Ooh, what happened to him?’”
“I wouldn’t bet on seeing us in 10 years, I would say,” Sajak said, before asking White, “Is that fair?”
“Probably, yes,” White said.
News of Sajak&#8217;s eventual exit from the show comes after Alex Trebek, the host of the “Jeopardy!” gameshow since 1984, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/alex-trebek-dies-of-cancer-at-80">died</a> in 2020 after hosting the show for 36 years.
The TV icon, whose avuncular personality and biting wit made the daily show a must-see for millions of Americans, announced in March 2019 that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He went through chemotherapy after the diagnosis but said he had no plans to retire.

“Wheel of Fortune” viewers are ruthless when it comes to missed clues, especially for contestants solving puzzles that they deem way too easy <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/03/17/wheel-of-fortune-fans-shocked-players-stumped-by-phrase/">According to</a> The New York Post, that situation came up again Wednesday night when a player failed to correctly guess the clue, “renting a pedal boat.” 
When the letters T, E, and L were missing, one contestant asked if the answer was “renting a paddleboat.” But there weren’t enough spaces to fit that word. Once “T” and “E” got added, the puzzle was solved to include, “RENTING A PEDA_ BOAT.”
Fans got most frustrated when contestants thought the missing letter was “M” or “W,” which would make the last word “pedam” or “pedaw.”
After five excruciating guesses, they finally discovered the right answer was &#8220;pedal.&#8221; Twitter was inundated with annoyed reactions from viewers once again.
“Another cringe-worthy night on #WheelOfFortune!” one tweet said. 
“Where do they find these people to play Wheel of Fortune?” Barstool Sports asked publicly.
Another comment said, “What is with #WheelOfFortune lately?? Again!!” 
“What is in the water(s) over at Wheel of Fortune?” someone else agreed.
This was the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dumbest-two-minutes-in-wheel-of-fortune-history-twitter-furious-over-contestants-failure-to-solve-simple-puzzle">second time in recent memory</a> that “Wheel of Fortune” contestants missed an easy clue. A clip from an episode earlier this month was dubbed, “The dumbest two minutes in Wheel of Fortune history.”
In that clip, the unsolved phrase read, “ANOTHER FEATHER  _N  YO_R  _A_.”
“Another feather in your hat,” contestant Laura Machado answered incorrectly for her first attempt.
Machado got another opportunity to solve the puzzle after fellow competitor Christopher Coleman incorrectly guessed the letter “G” and contestant Thomas Lipscomb landed on “bankrupt” after spinning the wheel.
“Another feather in your lap,” Laura guessed for her second try.
Next, Coleman guessed the letter “D” for his next turn while Thomas had a second bad spin when he landed on “Lose a turn.” 
Laura still didn’t get the answer even after she spun the wheel and correctly guessed the answer included the letter “P.” Instead of spinning again, Laura decided to try solving the puzzle even though she didn’t know the answer.
“Another feather in your map,” Laura submitted as her third guess.
The puzzle finally got solved after Thomas bought a letter “C,” which revealed the answer as “Another feather in your cap.”
Twitter users were also up in arms over this episode.
“#WheelofFortune looking for the feather in my lap? Nap? Map? Rap? Sap? Gap?” one person sarcastically wrote.
“They should have ended this ‘Wheel of Fortune’ episode with no winner,” Clay Travis said.
Longtime show host Pat Sajak <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wheel-of-fortune-contestant-speaks-on-being-publicly-humiliated-while-pat-sajak-urges-have-a-little-heart">defended the contestants</a>, saying it’s extremely stressful trying to solve the puzzles live on TV and people may miss clues that seem easy to armchair experts.
“It always pains me when nice people come on our show to play a game and win some money and maybe fulfill a lifelong dream, and are then subject to online ridicule when they make a mistake or something goes awry,” Sajak said.
“Last night’s ‘Feather in your cap’ puzzle was a case in point. Sitting at home, it seems incredible that they couldn’t solve it, but I knew in real time what was happening.”
