Actor Jim Carrey was trending over the weekend after an appearance at the César Awards in Paris had fans wondering if the longtime actor was replaced by a clone.
Fans took note of how the 64-year-old actor looked different, which sparked numerous theories about plastic surgery, body doubles, or some other secret plot. The rumors reached a fever pitch when drag artist Alexis Stone <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DVWs5RNDHSz/?img_index=1">seemed to indicate</a> that he had impersonated Carrey at the event and posted images of prosthetics and a wig to his Instagram page.
The speculation became so intense that a spokesperson for the César Awards went on record saying it was the one and only Carrey attending the event alongside his family and friends.
“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer,” Gregory Caulier <a href="https://variety.com/2026/film/global/jim-carry-clone-conspiracy-theory-denied-cesar-awards-speech-1236676536/">told</a> Variety in a statement. 
“From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words,” he went on. “He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”
“For me, it’s a non-issue,” Caulier said of the clone speculation. “I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.” 
The “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” star said during his speech that his family originally came from France before emigrating to Canada. “Tonight, with this magnificent honor, this square has come full circle,” Carrey told the audience upon receiving the honorary award. 
Fans were surprised by the actor’s appearance at the César Awards, which they claimed was totally different from how the actor looked and sounded at his last public appearance in November 2025 at the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

As the sun set in Paris, a suspected Islamist terrorist was shot after charging French police with a bladed weapon near the Arc de Triomphe during a solemn ceremony Friday evening, authorities said. The attack unfolded shortly before the daily rekindling of the eternal flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, one of France’s most symbolically charged national rites.
Police identified the assailant as Brahim Bahrir, a 48-year-old French national who had been released from prison on Dec. 24, 2025, after serving 12 years of a 17-year sentence for terrorism-related violence. According to a <a href="https://apnews.com/article/paris-police-attacked-arc-triomphe-61a6af125becebd1d425c7e0b14a8f79">report</a> from the Associated Press, Bahrir was convicted in 2013 for stabbing three Belgian police officers in Molenbeek, a Brussels suburb, as part of a terrorist enterprise. He was later transferred to France to complete his sentence before his release late last year.
The Friday attack occurred shortly after 6 p.m. local time as members of the Republican Guard were conducting the Flame-of-the-Unknown-Soldier ceremony. Bahrir reportedly lunged at an officer, armed with a knife and scissors, prompting police to open fire. One officer sustained minor injuries before another officer shot the suspect multiple times, stopping the attack.
French authorities said no bystanders were injured. Bahrir was transported to the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital in critical condition, but later died of his wounds, according to the national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office.
Officials confirmed that Bahrir was already known to authorities and had been placed under post-release surveillance due to his prior radicalization and assessed threat level. He was subject to routine reporting requirements at the time of the attack.
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the incident as an act of terrorism and praised the police response, commending officers for their composure and for preventing what he said could have been far worse during a ceremony attended by civilians, including schoolchildren.

French authorities have canceled the traditional New Year’s Eve concert on the Champs-Élysées, one of Paris&#8217;s most famous avenues, citing security and crowd-management concerns, while saying the city will proceed with a fireworks display and a televised countdown.
The decision was made at the request of the Paris police prefecture, which warned that hosting a large open-air concert on the capital’s world-renowned street known for luxury shopping and restaurants posed unacceptable safety risks. In recent years, the celebration has drawn hundreds of thousands of people, at times approaching one million, requiring the deployment of thousands of police officers.
The Champs-Élysées has <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/12/13/world-news/partys-over-in-paris-city-cancel-open-air-concert-at-the-champs-elysees-due-to-security-threats/">reportedly</a> become associated with violence from groups of Muslim migrants who have been looting stores and fighting with locals and law enforcement.
City officials said the cancellation applies only to the live concert. Fireworks at the Arc de Triomphe are still expected to take place at midnight, and a prerecorded concert will be broadcast on national television instead.

Mayor Anne Hidalgo accepted the police recommendation, emphasizing that public safety must take precedence. Local officials from the 8th arrondissement, which includes the Champs-Élysées, supported the move, saying the avenue was not designed to safely host a large concert crowd.

The Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris has been granted a rare special dispensation to host a wedding for a carpenter who helped rebuild it after the devastating 2019 fire.
Paris Archbishop Laurent Ulrich granted special permission for the ceremony to thank Martin Lorentz for devoting his time and talent to helping rebuild the cathedral, per <a href="https://www.ncregister.com/blog/notre-dame-dream-wedding">The National Catholic Register</a>.
Notre-Dame is not a parish church, so weddings aren’t usually allowed and require special dispensation from the archbishop. The last known wedding was in 1995, the outlet noted. Dispensations for nuptial ceremonies have only been granted a few times in the cathedral’s 860-year history.

“It’s incredible to see this happen,” a fellow carpenter who attended the event told the outlet. “It was a wonderful moment to end like that, to get married in our cathedral, which is a bit like home to us.”
Notre-Dame reopened on December 8, 2024, with Archbishop Ulrich presiding. The ceremony with French President Emmanuel Macron featured 1,500 guests, including major world leaders like then-President-elect Donald Trump, then-First Lady Jill Biden, Prince William, Elon Musk, and others. 
The massive restoration process reportedly cost more than $700 million.

They were celebrating Perry’s 41st birthday when they were spotted together on Saturday. Photos show the “I Kissed a Girl” singer wearing a form-fitting red dress while walking down the street with Trudeau, 53, who is clad all in black.
Rumors of the two having a romantic relationship date back to the summer, when Trudeau and Perry were seen together in Montreal. Then, earlier this month, images of the couple kissing on her yacht started circulating on social media, though they had been captured earlier in the summer.

Suspects have been arrested over the brazen jewelry heist at the Louvre, just as one of them was about to fly out of France, the Paris prosecutor said on Sunday.
Two men in their 30s and originally from the capital&#8217;s Seine-Saint-Denis suburb &#8211; which includes some of the country&#8217;s most deprived areas &#8211; were detained on Saturday evening, according to Le Parisien newspaper, which first broke the story.
They were known to French police and one of the suspects was about to fly to Algeria from Charles de Gaulle airport, the newspaper said.
There was no indication on Sunday that any of France&#8217;s stolen crown jewels had been recovered.
Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau did not say how many people were arrested or give any more details about them. In a statement, she deplored the fact that information about their arrest was leaked.
&#8220;This revelation can only hinder the investigative efforts of the 100 or so mobilised investigators, both in the search for the stolen jewelry and for all the perpetrators. It is too early to provide any specific details,&#8221; Beccuau said.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, under public pressure to deliver results a week to the day after the robbery, congratulated investigators in a tweet, but gave no more detail.

They broke in using a crane to smash an upstairs window during opening hours and escaped on motorbikes.
News of the robbery reverberated around the world, prompting soul-searching in France over what some regarded as a national humiliation.
The stolen treasures included a tiara and an earring from the jewelry of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense from the early 19th century.
The crown of Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III, was found damaged outside the museum. The thieves apparently dropped the piece, made of gold, emeralds and diamonds, as they made their getaway.
Built in the late 12th century, the Louvre Palace used to be the official residence of the kings of France, until Louis XIV abandoned it for Versailles. It was turned into a museum for the royal art collection in 1793, four years after the French Revolution.
Its huge collection of masterpieces, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo statue, brought in 8.7 million visitors last year.

Despite the festive atmosphere, Trump and Senate Republicans were clear that they were there for business: the business of reopening the government.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) spoke with the press after the lunch concluded. He stressed that Republicans are united on Trump&#8217;s team.
Senate Republicans are planning to hold a separate vote on paying troops and law enforcement agents for the remainder of the shutdown. It’s not clear if Democrats will join them. But there’s a chance that, if they manage to get those essential workers paid, it may empower both sides to dig in and keep the shutdown fight going even longer.

Topline: More than a dozen Democrat governors have signed on to a new health alliance, in a direct challenge to the Trump administration&#8217;s federal health agencies. 
The Governors&#8217; Public Health Alliance is being pitched as “non-partisan” and “all about the science.” The claim is that the Trump administration, and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., in particular, is anti-science. Therefore, this organization is necessary to protect Americans. However, so far, the Governors’ Public Health Alliance is strictly partisan: only Democrat governors have signed on. 
The alliance will dole out medical guidance that will likely challenge federal agencies such as the CDC and FDA, or at least lobby the federal government on these matters. It will make public health guidelines or offer “best practices&#8221; on vaccines and other measures. The allied states will share medical statistics, data, and advice on preventive care, and buy vaccines and supplies in bulk. 
The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.hcinnovationgroup.com/policy-value-based-care/article/55323774/fifteen-governors-create-new-public-health-alliance?utm_source=chatgpt.com">called</a> the alliance a “shadow public-health alliance” and said it’s the “largest move” so far “to create an alternative public-health universe outside the federal government.”
Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois, a Democrat, signed on to this association and <a href="https://gov-pritzker-newsroom.prezly.com/gov-pritzker-joins-launch-of-governors-public-health-alliance-to-protect-illinoisians-from-trumps-attack-on-science?utm_source=chatgpt.com">claimed</a> that Trump and Kennedy have turned the CDC “into a misinformation machine.”
California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom also signed on. He said “extremists” in the Trump administration are trying to “weaponize the CDC and spread misinformation.”
Other states include Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and the territory of Guam. The residents in these states make up about one-third of the U.S. population.
The Democrat health effort has to do mostly with vaccines. The governors who have signed on have highlighted vaccine “access” and attacked Kennedy for challenging orthodoxy. There was also mention of abortion “access.”
The association is primarily funded by a nonprofit called Governors Action Alliance, known as GovAct. The nonprofit claims to be nonpartisan, but supports Democrat causes and generally teams up with Democrats to expand Medicaid and bolster abortion and voting rights.
GovAct is behind the “Reproductive Freedom Alliance,” a coalition of 23 Democrat governors working to expand abortion. GovAct is also behind the “Governors Safeguarding Democracy” alliance that is like a Resist Trump 2.0 effort launched just days after Trump won the 2024 election.
Trump admin’s response: HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon <a href="https://apnews.com/article/governors-public-health-alliance-kennedy-7d5f277178697bbdfc228567c6d9f616">called</a> out Democrat governors for “destroy[ing] public trust in public health.” He noted that Democrat-led states “imposed unscientific school closures, toddler mask mandates, and vaccine passports during the COVID era.” He said the Trump administration is rebuilding trust by “grounding every policy in rigorous evidence and Gold Standard Science – not the failed politics of the pandemic.”

Topline: Investigators are still scrambling for clues after priceless jewels were stolen from the world’s most famous museum during a daring, broad-daylight heist.
On Sunday morning, a half-hour after the Louvre Museum in Paris had opened its doors, four thieves arrived in a construction truck with an electric ladder mounted on top. Two men, posing as construction workers, then ascended to a second-floor facade, where they used special disc cutters to slice holes through the windows.
The thieves entered through the windows to the famed Galerie d’Apollon, home to some of France’s most priceless Crown Jewels. With stunned patrons watching, they smashed two display cases. They removed nine objects, including a large brooch, a pair of emerald earrings, a necklace, and other jewelry belonging to Empress Marie-Louise, the second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.
The thieves then joined their accomplices on the street, where they escaped on motorbikes, fleeing along the banks of the Seine River. The operation lasted no more than seven minutes.
As the heist went on, museum visitors were ordered to evacuate immediately. Many said they thought the building was on fire or had been struck by terrorists.
French President Emmanuel Macron called the heist an “attack on a heritage that we cherish.” The biggest concern now is that the jewels may never be recovered. Experts say the thieves certainly know they’d likely get caught if they tried to sell them on the black market, so it’s a real possibility they could remove the stones and melt down the precious metals to sell piece by piece. One of the tiaras alone had more than 1,000 diamonds and dozens of sapphires.
One official said the heist wasn’t an art crime, but a “commodity theft.” The jewels they took are of “inestimable worth,” according to the museum.
The haul could have been even larger. In their haste to get away, the thieves abandoned efforts to take the crown of Empress Eugénie, which contained nearly 2,500 diamonds and more than 50 emeralds, though it was damaged during the robbery.
The investigation: Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said the robbery was “a major, highly organized operation” carried out by a team that had clearly done scouting. But at the moment, if they have any leads, they aren’t letting the public know.
Speculation has been rampant. Many people wonder if this could’ve been part of an inside job – they want to know if someone on staff at the Louvre could have offered aid. The country’s foreign minister said they weren’t ruling out an inside job.
Others have questioned why these specific jewels were targeted. In the same room they hit lies a display case housing the famous Regent Diamond, a $60 million stone. Even some French officials have expressed confusion over why the thieves, who clearly had done their research, seemingly ignored such a prime target just a few feet away.
Heist hysteria: Just last week, a group of thieves stole a number of collectible clocks from the President Jacques Chirac Museum in the French town of Corrèze. Then last month, a separate heist saw thieves lift $700,000 worth of gold from the French Museum of Natural History. Weeks before that, $11 million worth of porcelain was stolen from yet another museum in the city of Limoges.
This is only the latest heist to hit the Louvre. A diamond-studded sword was stolen back in 1976. Most famous of all, the Mona Lisa was lifted back in 1911. Ultimately, the world-famous portrait painting was located two years later.

A band of thieves broke into the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday, making off with elegant and historically significant pieces of jewelry of “incalculable” value, France’s interior minister said.
In a heist that lasted seven minutes, a group of thieves used a motorized lift on a side of the museum that is under construction to rise above the ground floor. They entered the museum through a window using a glass cutter, according to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg7nrlkg0zxo">BBC</a>.
Once inside, the thieves threatened security guards, who left the area, before breaking into display cases, grabbing the jewelry, and fleeing the scene on two scooters. Nobody was harmed in the heist, which French Culture Minister Rachida Dati described as “very professional.”

The stolen items were from the museum’s Apollo Gallery, which houses the crown jewels of past royals of France. The thieves snatched tiaras, earrings, and other items that together contain thousands of diamonds and other jewels.
The stolen items include a tiara, decorative bow, and brooch from Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III. The tiara alone includes 212 pearls, 1,998 diamonds, and 992 rose-cut diamonds, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/19/world/europe/louvre-heist-items.html">The New York Times</a>.
A sapphire set consisting of a matching tiara, necklace, and earrings were also stolen. The set is of unknown origin, but was worn by royals such as Queen Hortense, the wife of Louis Bonaparte. Queen Marie-Amélie, the wife of Louis Philippe I, also wore the set. The pieces together include 24 Ceylon sapphires, which only <a href="https://deliqagems.com/pages/what-is-ceylon-sapphire?srsltid=AfmBOoqIX_AYcDceCAj4IG1B0VKKoQP7QOUlYcoqjuhWpfK4GPslwlhh">come</a> from Sri Lanka, and 1,083 diamonds.
The bandits also made off with an emerald and diamond necklace presented by Napoleon to his second wife, Marie Louise, as a wedding gift for their marriage in 1810. The necklace includes 32 emeralds and 1,138 diamonds. Included in the Louvre’s set was also a pair of matching earrings that the thieves also stole.
French President Emmanuel Macron pledged in a <a href="https://x.com/EmmanuelMacron/status/1979972585094807626">post</a> on social media that the jewelry would be recovered and the thieves brought to justice. He also said a new “renaissance” project to update the Louvre includes updates that have strengthened the museum’s security.

At least two people were killed and hundreds more were injured in Paris following a European soccer championship, as protesters waved Palestinian flags and clashed with police.
Chaos erupted across the city after thousands of people took to the streets to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain winning the Champions League, the most prestigious title in European soccer. Videos and photos from the riots showed people clashing with police, crashing through barriers, destroying vehicles, climbing monuments, and causing mayhem.
Protesters waived Palestinian flags amid the chaos, following an anti-Israel protest during the championship match in Munich. Paris Saint-Germain fans unfurled a massive banner calling for an end to the “genocide” in Gaza, a display that could result in a 10,000 euro fine for the soccer club. Other Paris Saint-Germain fans were seen waving Palestinian flags and wearing Palestinian scarves, according to <a href="https://www.thejc.com/news/world/psg-fans-wave-stop-genocide-in-gaza-banner-during-champions-league-final-bfd29tzj">The Jewish Chronicle</a>.
Videos also show rioters waving Algerian, Tunisian, and Moroccan flags.

As the celebration descended into chaos, French authorities cracked down and arrested hundreds of people. There is no credible evidence to suggest that Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza. A bust of singer Jim Morrison that was stolen from &#8220;The Doors&#8221; legendary frontman&#8217;s gravesite in 1988 has been recovered by accident, French police have announced.
“After 37 years of absence, the bust of Jim Morrison, stolen in 1988 from the Père Lachaise cemetery, has been found,” the Paris Regional Judicial Police Directorate <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DJuPS2ponll">said</a> in an Instagram post.
“During an investigation conducted by the Financial and Anti-Corruption Brigade of the Directorate of Judicial Police of the Prefecture of Police, under the authority of the Paris Public Prosecutor&#8217;s Office, this iconic symbol for the singer&#8217;s fans was recovered.”
The prosecutor&#8217;s office called it a “chance discovery made during a search ordered by an examining magistrate at the Paris court.&#8221;  
Morrison, former singer of The Doors and best known for songs such as “Light My Fire” and “Break on Through,” was found dead at the age of 27 in the bathtub of his Paris apartment in 1971. He was buried at Père-Lachaise, a cemetery filled with other famous figures including Marcel Proust, Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, and Edith Piaf.
Fans have been flocking to the singer&#8217;s gravesite ever since, especially on special occasions such as the anniversary of his death on July 3. Celebrations there have sometimes gotten rowdy, with police being forced to disperse a crowd in 1991 using tear gas.

The 300-pound bust made by Croatian sculptor Mladen Mikulin was added to Morrison&#8217;s tombstone on the 10th anniversary of his death, then disappeared seven years later.
Jeff Jampo, manager of Morrison&#8217;s estate, told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/20/style/jim-morrison-grave-bust-found-intl-scli">CNN</a> that he’s “happy to hear” the bust was found. 
“Obviously it’s a piece of history, and one Jim’s family wanted there on his grave, so it’s gratifying to see that it’s been recovered. Now we’ll have to see what kind of shape the bust is in,” he told the outlet.
There has been no indication of what will be done now that the bust has been found.
“I think it would be incredible if they put the bust back onto where it was and it would attract so many more people, but the cemetery wouldn’t even be able to hold that many people,” Paris tour guide Jade Jezzini <a href="https://apnews.com/article/jim-morrison-paris-grave-bust-recovered-3dc51d6bfdee8c3f19c4b806ddd36313">said</a>, according to the Associated Press. “The amount of people who would rush in here just to see the bust to take pictures of it, it would be incredible.”

Reality star Kim Kardashian, 44, testified at the trial for individuals accused of being involved in a 2016 robbery in Paris.
The social media influencer took the stand and described her experience of being held at gunpoint in her hotel room, saying, &#8220;I absolutely did think I was gonna die,&#8221; per <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/live/ce81drd3m6gt">BBC News</a>. Kardashian also described what happened, saying she was wearing nothing but a robe when she was tied up by the assailants.
She said her robe opened when one of the men was handling her, “exposing everything” on her body.
&#8220;They threw me on the bed and the smaller one started to tie my hands,&#8221; she said during the testimony. &#8220;I started to freak out.&#8221;
&#8220;I was sure that I was going to be raped,” Kardashian testified before adding that at that point, her legs were tied together.
The celebrity said she kept repeating, &#8220;I have babies and I need to get home to my babies,&#8221; to the men. Kardashian said she believes one told her to “shut up” at one point, the outlet noted.
&#8220;Then they tied me up and I was hysterical. When he was about to tape my mouth, he leaned toward me and said in English &#8216;shh&#8217; and &#8216;you’ll be OK.'&#8221;
She recalled continuing to fear for her life and being worried for the safety of her mother Kris Jenner and her sister Kourtney, who were with her on the trip, but not in the room at the time of the burglary.
&#8220;At that point, I was sure that&#8217;s when they were going to shoot me,&#8221; Kardashian said, according to the BBC. &#8220;So I said a prayer for my family and my mom and my sister and best friend.&#8221;
She said she believed she &#8220;would be shot dead on the bed and [Kourtney] would see that and have that memory forever.&#8221;
Kardashian added that after the men made away with jewelry worth nearly $9 million, they left her tied up on the bathroom floor. She didn’t try to escape for a while until she knew they were truly gone.
The social media influencer said she used to feel safe in Paris, but now travels with four to six bodyguards everywhere she goes.
The men on trial are part of a group that’s referred to as the &#8220;Grandpa robbers&#8221; by French media due to how old they were at the time, per <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/world/europe/kim-kardashian-testify-grandpa-robbers-paris-trial-9m-jewelry-heist-rcna206243">NBC News</a>.
One of the suspects, Yunice Abbas, 71, has publicly admitted to being involved in the robbery. He is also co-author of the 2021 book “I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian,” a title which he later said he didn’t choose.
Most of Kardashian’s stolen jewelry was never recovered, the outlet noted. 
The men were arrested three months after the robbery occurred, but the legal process has been plagued by delays and due to the age of the accused, not all of them are physically able to stand trial. One suspect died before the case went to court.
