NASA successfully launched the Artemis II mission Wednesday evening, sending four astronauts on a historic journey toward the Moon, marking the first crewed lunar mission in more than 50 years and a major milestone in America’s return to deep space exploration.
“Let me begin by congratulating the team at NASA and our brave astronauts on the successful launch of Artemis 2 — it was quite something,” President Donald Trump said at the start of an address following Wednesday’s liftoff. “It will be traveling further than any manned rocket has ever flown … They are on the way and God bless them. The Space Launch System rocket lifted off from Kennedy Space Center at 6:35 p.m. EDT, carrying NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen aboard the Orion spacecraft. The launch followed days of final preparations and capped a buildup the White House framed as part of “America’s destiny” in space.

Within minutes of liftoff, Orion reached orbit and successfully deployed its solar arrays, allowing the spacecraft to begin drawing power from the sun. Mission teams quickly transitioned the capsule into flight operations, beginning a series of system checks that will determine the next phase of the mission.
Now that Artemis II is underway, the focus shifts to what comes next. In the first phase of flight, Orion will spend roughly 24 hours in a high-Earth orbit, looping approximately 43,700 miles above the planet. This extended orbit gives astronauts and engineers time to test critical systems, including life support, deep-space communications, and the spacecraft’s maneuverability. 
The crew is also expected to conduct early demonstrations of docking capabilities, an essential component for future missions. If any major issues arise during this phase, NASA retains the option to bring the astronauts home early.
Assuming systems remain stable, Orion will perform a key engine burn to push the spacecraft out of Earth’s orbit and begin its journey to the Moon. That maneuver is expected to send the crew on a three-day trajectory into what NASA calls the Moon’s “sphere of influence,” where lunar gravity begins to dominate.
During the outbound journey, astronauts will continue testing onboard systems, including next-generation spacesuits designed to sustain life for up to six days in the event of cabin depressurization, part of the mission’s broader goal of validating systems for future deep-space travel.
By Monday, the crew is expected to reach the Moon, where they will conduct a multi-hour flyby. The spacecraft will pass more than 4,000 miles above the lunar surface, offering a rare view of the Moon’s far side, regions that have never been directly observed by human eyes under these lighting conditions. From Orion, the Moon is expected to appear roughly the size of a basketball held at arm’s length.
At its farthest point, Artemis II will travel approximately 252,799 miles from Earth, farther than any human mission in history, surpassing the record set during Apollo 13.
The mission will follow a “free return” trajectory, a safety measure that uses the Moon’s gravity to naturally guide the spacecraft back toward Earth. This path ensures the crew could return home even in the event of a propulsion system failure.
Following the lunar flyby, Orion will begin its return journey, which is expected to take about four days. The mission is scheduled to conclude with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean on April 10, where recovery teams will retrieve the crew.
NASA officials emphasized after launch that, despite its historic nature, Artemis II remains a test mission above all else. “This is a test mission,” Isaacman said during a press conference after the launch. “We’ll call it a success when they’re in the water safely, and then we’ll start working on the next mission.”
Officials also noted a minor communications issue during launch, clarifying in during the press conference that it originated on the ground and did not impact the rocket or spacecraft.
The mission builds on earlier Artemis I testing and represents a critical step toward NASA’s long-term goals: returning astronauts to the lunar surface and establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon, with eventual missions to Mars.
“This is America and our partners’ return to the Moon,” Isaacman said. For now, with a successful and safe launch, Artemis II enters its most critical phase, not just reaching the Moon, but proving that the systems designed to carry humans deeper into space are ready for what comes next.

NASA has invited the public to watch the mission in real time, posting live video of the preparations for the mission.
“Artemis II waits on the pad, ready to carry astronauts potentially farther than any humans have traveled in more than half a century. The next era of exploration begins,” NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said ahead of the mission. 
The crew is led by Commander Reid Wiseman, a former Navy test pilot, joined by pilot Victor Glover, mission specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

In the final hours before blast off, the launch crew began standard preparations, including cooling the rocket’s plumbing and engine systems and loading propellants into the Space Launch System, which will carry Orion into space. 
The countdown, which began Monday, entered a scheduled hold on Wednesday morning for final system checks. 
“Engineers perform final configuration checks, review system health, and ensure all launch criteria are met. It’s also a window for resolving any minor issues without impacting the overall timeline,” NASA <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/blogs/missions/2026/04/01/live-artemis-ii-launch-day-updates/">said</a> in an update. “These holds are standard in complex missions like Artemis II, providing flexibility and confidence as we prepare to send astronauts on a journey around the Moon.”
NASA&#8217;s Artemis program aims to return astronauts to the Moon and establish a long-term human presence. A follow-up mission, scheduled for 2027, will test lunar landing systems developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin, with a goal of landing astronauts as early as 2028.

America Attempts Longest Journey Ever From Earth As Artemis II Is Officially Underway

At the beginning of a “lightning round” of questions, Cohen asked the president directly about the existence of aliens.
“They’re real, but I haven’t seen them, and they’re not being kept in” Area 51, the former president said. “There’s no underground facility, unless there’s this enormous conspiracy, and they hid it from the President of the United States.”
Obama also jokingly said that the question on extraterrestrial life was the first question he wanted answered when he became president.
Saturday’s interview is not the first time Obama has spoken about issues related to extraterrestrials. In 2021, the former president confirmed the existence of UFOs, or unidentified flying objects. UFOs are commonly associated with aliens, though they could have more earthly explanations as well.
“What is true, and I’m actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are,” he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/barack-obama-admits-ufos-exist-we-dont-know-exactly-what-they-are">said</a> during an appearance on CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
“We can’t explain how they move, their trajectory,” he said. “They did not have an easily explainable pattern. And so, I think that people still take seriously trying to investigate and figure out what that is.”
Obama also addressed the issue of aliens in 2021, though at the time he declined to say whether or not they exist.
“When it comes to aliens, there are some things I just can’t tell you on air,” Obama said at the time.
“Look, the truth is that when I came into office, I asked,” he continued. “I was like, ‘All right, is there the lab somewhere where we’re keeping the alien specimens and spaceships?’”

When Elon Musk announced that SpaceX would acquire his xAI company, most news outlets framed the merger as a corporate reshuffling, with some even describing the deal as a financial lifeline for the AI company. Musk’s own words, however, suggest something far more ambitious than a rescue mission. With the acquisition taking place on February 2, the early architecture of a system that ties energy, computing, space infrastructure, and artificial intelligence into one vertically integrated machine has begun to come into focus.
In December, Musk stated, “Space-based industries will vastly exceed the value of all of Earth, given that you could harness roughly 100,000 times more energy than Earth and still be using less than a millionth of the Sun’s energy.” The billionaire argued that Earth is the bottleneck and space is the throughput.
Just ten days before the merger announcement, Musk hinted at the scale of his vision: “If we harness even a billionth of the Sun’s power for AI/robotics, it will be a 1000X return. Money won’t mean much at that point.”
AI is rapidly becoming one of the most energy-hungry technologies ever built. Goldman Sachs <a href="https://www.goldmansachs.com/insights/articles/ai-to-drive-165-increase-in-data-center-power-demand-by-2030">projects</a> that power demand from data centers will increase by 50% by 2027 and over 165% by 2030. Training advanced AI models requires enormous clusters of GPUs, and keeping them from overheating is an engineering challenge of its own. Nvidia&#8217;s latest chip was engineered to be better optimized to cool down the hardware, highlighting that advances in AI are as much about optimizing energy as increasing computational power.
Musk is taking a different approach to energy, looking to use SpaceX to create power grids in orbit.
Two days before the merger, SpaceX filed a request with the federal government, asking permission to launch a massive orbital data center in space. If the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) grants the request, SpaceX will be able to launch its reusable rockets to build a massive constellation of satellites powered by solar energy.
The power generated from these orbital data centers could help satisfy the enormous energy demands of xAI, depending on whether the technology operates as described.
According to SpaceX, orbital data centers operate with little maintenance cost and never have to deal with a cloudy day, as it is “always sunny in space.” With its vast new energy source, Musk predicts that xAI will, in turn, be able to solve bigger problems and manage larger computations.
Not all are as optimistic as Musk. &#8220;Talk of launching data centers into space, sounds somewhere between optimistic to delusional. The same could be said of the value public markets have ascribed to the billionaire’s corporate efforts to date,&#8221; <a href="https://www.reuters.com/commentary/breakingviews/spacexs-125-trln-deal-risks-burn-up-re-entry-2026-02-03/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">wrote</a> Robert Cyran for Reuters. He compared SpaceX and xAI&#8217;s merger to bankrupt companies in the dot-com bubble. He added, “Musk’s self-referential merger universe, if anything, revolves around even more outlandish hopes.”
The combined company is now valued at an estimated $1.25 trillion, making it the largest private tech enterprise in history, and the Financial Times reports that SpaceX is still aiming for an initial public offering in June. The IPO of the now combined company is expected to raise up to $50 billion, which would stand as largest IPO of all time.

The leak ultimately triggered an automated halt to the countdown during a simulated terminal sequence at roughly five minutes remaining.
Engineers also addressed a valve associated with the Orion crew module hatch that required retorquing, while closeout procedures at the pad took longer than planned. Cold temperatures at Kennedy Space Center delayed the start of fueling operations and affected cameras and other ground equipment, though NASA said the conditions did not compromise the overall test.
In addition, recurring audio communication dropouts among ground teams, an issue NASA has been tracking for weeks, reappeared during the rehearsal and will require further mitigation ahead of launch.

The space agency released no further details on the name of the crewmember or of the medical situation, but reiterated that the astronaut is now fully stable.
Dr. James Polk, NASA’s chief health and medical officer, said, “It’s not an emergency evacuation, but we are erring on the side of caution for the crew member.”
The spacewalk was to be performed by American astronauts Mike Fincke and Zena Cardman, who would exit the orbiting lab for almost 7 hours and &#8220;finish preparing a power channel where a new solar array is set to be installed on the ISS,&#8221; according to <a href="https://www.livescience.com/space/space-exploration/nasa-cancels-spacewalk-and-considers-early-crew-return-from-iss-due-to-medical-issues">Live Science</a>. It would have been Cardman&#8217;s first spacewalk, and Fincke&#8217;s ninth.
The other two astronauts were Japan’s Kimiya Yui and Russia’s Oleg Platonov.
The American-Japanese-Russian crew first arrived on the ISS in August 2025 and was scheduled for at least a sixth-month stay. The group was then supposed to be replaced with Crew-12 in mid-February, but this is now up in the air due to the early departure. Isaacman said they may &#8220;potentially pull [the crew] forward.&#8221;
&#8220;It is unclear what returning Crew-11 home early would mean for the ISS, as such changes to the usual rotation are highly unusual,&#8221; Live Science reported.
There are also three other astronauts currently living on the space station who launched from a Russian Soyuz spacecraft in November and are due back to Earth in the summer.
NASA announced it will provide further details regarding the upcoming crew in the next 48 hours.

Besides Nguyen, pop singer Katy Perry, CBS anchor Gayle King, and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez were among the six women who flew to the edge of space on the Amazon founder’s Blue Origin spacecraft in April. Their flight was touted as historic and important by many major outlets, but critics mocked the circus surrounding the 11-minute space tourism flight.
Nguyen, a bioastronautics research scientist, said backlash to the flight affected both her career and mental health. The 34-year-old posted about it on her Instagram on Tuesday, describing it as “another dream turned into a nightmare.”
She said the news coverage and social media reactions were “unprecedented,” and argued that even a “small fraction of negativity becomes staggering.” Nguyen also noted that her accomplishment of becoming the first Vietnamese woman in space was “buried under an avalanche of misogyny.”

Blue Origin is a private space company founded in 2000 by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The all-female space flight was criticized by social media users and celebrities for being over-promoted for what it turned out to be.
Actress Olivia Munn said as much on an episode of “Today with Jenna and Friends,” as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/blue-origin-all-female-crew-including-katy-perry-launches-into-space">reported</a>.
“What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous,” Munn said. “Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”

SpaceX has informed investors and representatives of financial institutions that it plans to pursue an initial public offering in the second half of next year, the Information reported on Friday, citing two people familiar with the discussions.
The rocket-maker, founded by Elon Musk, is considering a public listing of the entire company, including Starlink, its internet satellite service, according to the report.
Musk had said in 2020 that SpaceX planned to list Starlink several years in the future, once its revenue growth became smooth and predictable.
SpaceX did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The news of the potential IPO follows a media report that said SpaceX is kicking off a secondary share sale that would value the rocket-maker at $800 billion, pitting it against OpenAI for the title of the most valuable private company.
SpaceX&#8217;s finance chief, Bret Johnsen, told investors about the sale in recent days, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. The new potential valuation is double the $400 billion value it fetched in a recent secondary share sale.

The $800 billion valuation would put SpaceX ahead of ChatGPT-parent OpenAI, which is valued at $500 billion as of October, making it the most valuable privately held company in the world, according to Crunchbase data.
Separately, Bloomberg News on Friday reported that SpaceX is preparing to sell insider shares that could include a per-share price of around $300, which would value the company at roughly $560 billion.
Several billionaires and private firms, including SpaceX and Jeff Bezos&#8217; Blue Origin, are fueling a new space race in the U.S., pouring money into rockets, satellites and lunar missions.

Scientists may have <a href="https://www.space.com/astronomy/black-holes/have-gravitational-waves-provided-the-first-hint-of-primordial-black-holes-born-during-the-big-bang">detected</a> the first tantalizing hint of primordial black holes, which are thought to have formed in the initial moments after the Big Bang.
The excitement centers on a cosmic gravitational-wave signal recorded on November 12, 2025, when the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA (LVK) network issued an automated alert for an unusual event. Unlike the hundreds of black hole and neutron-star mergers routinely observed since 2015, this signal appeared to involve at least one object far too light to be any known stellar remnant.
Ordinary black holes form when massive stars collapse, and neutron stars also arise from stellar cores; both types of objects have masses roughly equal to or greater than the Sun. The November 12 signal instead pointed to a sub-solar-mass compact object, something astrophysics cannot easily explain.
This has led to speculation that the lighter component might be a primordial black hole, a long-theorized relic born directly from density fluctuations in the ultra-hot plasma of the early universe — long before stars existed. These exotic objects could span a huge mass range: from far lighter than a paperclip to hundreds of thousands of solar masses.
If they exist, primordial black holes could influence cosmic evolution and even account for dark matter, the mysterious invisible substance that makes up most of the universe’s mass but does not interact with light.
The scientific reaction, however, remains cautious. LIGO member Christopher Berry <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-15344573/Scientists-primordial-black-holes-big-bang.html">highlighted</a> the event as a potential subsolar source but emphasized the possibility of a false alarm. For an event this unusual, the estimated false-alarm rate — about once every four years — is too high to claim a discovery. Noise artifacts often mimic faint or atypical gravitational-wave signals. Researchers are searching for any accompanying electromagnetic flash, but the localization region spans an enormous patch of sky, making such follow-up nearly impossible.
Even so, the possibility is captivating because primordial black holes have never been observed despite decades of theoretical work. Some could have evaporated through Hawking radiation early in cosmic history, while larger ones might survive today. A merger between two such objects would produce exactly the kind of signal LIGO and Virgo detected. Yet without additional events, scientists may never be certain whether S251112cm was real or merely a glitch.
Experts say the best path forward is to wait for more detections — something future upgrades to LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA are expected to enable. If similar signals appear, they could provide the first direct evidence for primordial black holes and offer crucial clues to the nature of dark matter.

Blue Origin, billionaire Jeff Bezos’ space company, joined a very small club on Thursday when it completed its first reusable rocket booster reentry and landing.
The launch, which was Blue Origin’s first for a paying customer, sent two satellites into space for NASA. Those satellites are headed toward Mars to study the impacts of solar wind on the Red Planet, among other things.
The New Glenn rocket booster then reentered the atmosphere and successfully touched down on a floating landing pad.

Blue Origin’s successful reentry and landing puts the company on more equal footing with Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which pioneered reusable rocket technology and had its first successful reentry and landing in 2015.
Since then, SpaceX has landed and recovered many boosters, and has caught three with the “chopsticks,” a pair of giant mechanical arms.
In 2023, Blue Origin won a $3.4 billion contract with NASA to develop the &#8220;human landing system&#8221; for the space agency&#8217;s Artemis V mission.
&#8220;Blue Origin will design, develop, test, and verify its Blue Moon lander to meet NASA’s human landing system requirements for recurring astronaut expeditions to the lunar surface, including docking with Gateway, a space station where crew transfer in lunar orbit,&#8221; NASA <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/news-release/nasa-selects-blue-origin-as-second-artemis-lunar-lander-provider/">said</a> in a press release.

Topline: Israel conducted a precision strike against senior Hamas leaders in Qatar on Tuesday, just a day after the terror group rejected a new ceasefire proposal from President Trump.
The strike targeted top Hamas officials who have been living and operating out of Qatar, which has served as a protected refuge for the terror group&#8217;s leadership. It appears to be the first time Israel has struck Hamas officials inside the country. Qatar condemned the attack as a &#8220;blatant violation of all international laws and norms.&#8221; The White House said the U.S. was notified of the attack ahead of time and, in turn, informed Qatar. President Trump &#8220;believes this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for peace,&#8221; said Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
The strike came shortly after Hamas rejected a new peace proposal from the Trump administration, calling it a &#8220;humiliating surrender document.&#8221; The proposal would have required Hamas to release all remaining hostages in exchange for Israel releasing thousands of Palestinian prisoners.
The events follow a separate Hamas terror attack in Jerusalem on Monday that killed six people and wounded 12 others.

Topline: The Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday announced that it had overcounted U.S. jobs by nearly one million last year, the largest downward revision in American history, confirming President Trump’s claims that the economy he inherited was far weaker than reported.
In its annual revision, the BLS announced that from March 2024 to March 2025, the economy added 910,000 fewer jobs than was initially reported. The more than 50% downward revision means the economy was adding only 70,000 jobs per month during that period, not 147,000. The White House said the news makes it &#8220;very clear that President Trump inherited a much worse economy &#8230; than ever reported&#8221; and proves that the Federal Reserve&#8217;s interest rate policy has been &#8220;far too restrictive.&#8221;
The massive revision reinforces the president&#8217;s push to overhaul the BLS, an agency he has accused of producing inaccurate data. &#8220;Much like the CDC, everything is wrong with the Bureau of Labor Statistics,&#8221; said Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS), who is in charge of confirming Trump&#8217;s nominee to lead the agency. &#8220;We need someone &#8230; to come in there and turn that place upside down.&#8221;
The shocking report makes it much more likely that the Fed will finally cut interest rates later this month, a move President Trump has been demanding for months.
