The internet has been up in arms about one of the biggest Lego scandals in human history, involving a record-breaking Lego set and accusations of corporate greed, content farming, and police irresponsibility. 
 
Eric Mansell, along with his son Bryan, reportedly <a href="https://bricksandminifigs.com/blog/blog/2026/05/28/bricks-minifigs-salem-oregon-clarity-and-resolution/">collected</a> a Lego Star Wars collection consisting of 780 boxed Lego sets and 1,200 rare figures as an investment for his grandchildren. The collection was reportedly priced between $60,000 to $200,000. 
 
The family gave the collection to Bricks and Minifigs, an after-market Lego reseller, to sell on consignment. But when the store changed hands, the new owner refused Mansell access to the collection and denied even having it. 
 
“All you have to do is let me in back. We can go that route or we can go to court,” Mansell said he told the store owner, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wscQpkcwgNU">adding,</a> “And the guy there just looks at me, crosses his arms and goes, ‘Let me tell you what’s going to happen. If we go to court, we’re going to drag this thing out so long and you’re going to end up spending so much more money than your collection is ever worth or what you ever would have gotten out of it, then it ain’t worth it, man.’”
Bricks and Minifigs denied &#8220;knowingly&#8221; stealing the Lego collection, stating, “The actual origin of this dispute lies in an unauthorized, local consignment arrangement between an independent former franchisee of the Salem store and the Mansell family.” The company stated that the collection was not even in the store when Johnson and Brandon Best took it over, as the collection was moved to an &#8220;offsite secure location.&#8221; 
Bricks and Minifigs stated that it found between $2,000 and $5,000 worth of the sets in the store that could possibly belong to the Mansell family. It stated, “We offered to return these items to the Mansell family though BAM had no legal obligation to do so, but it was refused.”
“Neither corporate nor the incoming owners (Josh Johnson and Best) ever took, sold, or concealed this collection,” the company added, claiming that inventory logs show the collection was already missing at the time of the takeover of the franchise.
Ben Schneider, who is known on YouTube as Reckless Ben, brought the case to the public&#8217;s attention after he sought to help the family get compensation for the massive Lego set. Schneider even went to the Bricks and Minifigs store to look into the case, but the police were called and he was ordered to stay off the property after being <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wscQpkcwgNU">accused</a> of harassment. Schneider was also accused of trespassing after he attempted to go to the office of Ammon McNeff, the CEO of Bricks and Minifigs.
After Schneider reportedly tried all forms of discussion with Best and his business associate Joshua Johnson, he managed to win a default judgement in a small claims court against them for the Legos. However, Best and Johnson closed the Bricks and Minifigs store shortly after the controversy erupted.
Schneider then tried to personally sue Johnson and Best to recover the money, but said he had difficulty having a good faith conversation and serving the court papers required to personally sue. 
Schneider said he waited outside Johnson’s house away from his property so he could talk with him about the lawsuit while not being accused of trespassing. Johnson reportedly <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxZPfj8AlmY">refused</a> to leave his property and called the cops multiple times on Schneider, one time allegedly accusing him of having heroin in his car, which turned out to be false. 
After Schneider was released on bail, the police later raided the house where Schneider and his friends were staying. The police arrested them all, and Schneider accused officers of dislocating his arm in the process.
Schneider and his friends were interrogated, and the police tried to keep Schneider in jail with no bail, but a judge allowed him to go. When Schneider was reportedly notified that there was another bail out for his arrest on the pretext that he was a physical threat to Johnson, he fled to Mexico to wait until things were sorted out.
In response to the ongoing problem with Schneider, Mansell, Johnson, and Best, Bricks and Minifigs filed a lawsuit against Schneider for conducting a harassment and extortion campaign against Bricks and Minifigs in Utah and Oregon. The company also <a href="https://bricksandminifigs.com/blog/blog/2026/05/28/bricks-minifigs-salem-oregon-clarity-and-resolution/">released</a> an official statement defending their side of the story.
The Bricks and Minifigs website has called Schneider and his content creator friends “zealous online profiteers” who have been engaged in “viral mischaracterizations” and &#8220;sensationalization&#8221; of their actions, and the actions of Johnson and Best.
Bricks and Minifigs also denied receiving verifiable copies of the signed contract, receipts of payment to the Mansell family, and a true listing of the inventory. It also said the store was closed “because our staff — including local teenagers — faced severe real-world safety hazards, targeted in-person stalking, and explicit bomb threats driven by viral videos.”
The American Fork Police Department posted a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcVmSQpIPRY">video</a> detailing its perspective on the events, including previous claims about harassment, stalking, forging of signatures, and theft of Legos. The police department also stated it wanted to stop Schneider&#8217;s attempt to contact Johnson about the Legos because Johnson &#8220;reported that he was going to shoot someone as a result of the ongoing harassment.&#8221;
Schneider has also issued a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YEzhDn0jY8">response</a> to the police video, stating that the police raided &#8220;my house for stealing the Legos when there&#8217;s an overwhelming amount of evidence that Josh stole the Legos&#8221; and that the police &#8220;redacted everything&#8221; that supported Schneider in the body cam footage, saying that the reason was &#8220;to protect the victims.&#8221;
Schneider also started a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-bryan-recover-his-lego-collection">GoFundMe</a> to help the Mansell family recover the cost of their collections and to pay for legal fees as he is considering suing Best, Johnson, and the police department.
Most recently, Bricks and Minifigs released a statement <a href="https://bricksandminifigs.com/blog/blog/2026/06/04/bricks-and-minifigs-salem-joshua-johnson-brandon-best-resignation/">declaring</a> that it was permanently closing their Salem location, parting ways with Johnson and Best, and &#8220;personally reached out to Bryan Mansell and family to meet, to review documentation revealed in the investigation, and to come to a mutual and positive resolution.&#8221;

Sanctuary authorities in Oregon cut an illegal immigrant truck driver loose after he allegedly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-trucker-with-california-license-accused-of-killing-newlyweds-in-tragic-collision">killed a newlywed</a> couple in a tragic collision, leading federal officers to track him down, The Daily Wire has learned.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer with local authorities after Indian national Rajinder Kumar jackknifed his semi-truck and trailer in November. Kumar&#8217;s disabled big rig blocked both lanes of a major highway in Deschutes County, Oregon, allegedly causing the deaths of William Micah Carter and his wife, Jennifer Lynn Lower, after their vehicle “struck the trailer at highway speeds,&#8221; <a href="https://bendbulletin.com/2025/11/28/two-vehicle-crash-in-deschutes-county-kills-two/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to local reports.
The couple had only been married for 16 days at the time of the fatal collision, Jennifer’s father, Tom Lower, <a href="https://bendbulletin.com/2025/11/28/two-vehicle-crash-in-deschutes-county-kills-two/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The Bulletin.
Despite facing local charges, along with having an ICE detainer, Kumar was released from a local jail on April 2, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). ICE was left to hunt him down in the streets, nabbing him on April 22.
It appears Kumar was released after posting $25,000, a portion of his $250,000 bond, before federal authorities caught up to him, <a href="https://lookouteugene-springfield.com/story/justice/2026/04/28/truck-driver-charged-in-death-of-springfield-couple-is-in-ice-custody/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Lookout Eugene-Springfield.

Kumar crossed the border illegally into Lukeville, Arizona, in 2022 and was subsequently released into the country, according to DHS. He received a work permit in 2023, along with a California Commercial Driver&#8217;s License (CDL).
Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis pinned the blame on Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom, along with sanctuary authorities in Oregon, for opening doors for Kumar throughout his time in the United States. The Trump administration has tagged California as a major source of fatal collisions involving illegal immigrant truck drivers after the state issued 17,000 non-domiciled Commercial Driver’s Licenses to foreign drivers.
“This illegal alien was issued a CDL by Gavin Newsom’s California. He then went on to recklessly drive a truck on America’s highways and KILL two honeymooners. Instead of cooperating with ICE law enforcement, Oregon sanctuary politicians RELEASED him from jail back into American communities,” Bis said in a statement shared with The Daily Wire.
“Every time sanctuary politicians release a dangerous criminal illegal alien back into our communities, they are gambling with American lives. We are grateful to our ICE law enforcement officers who tracked this killer down to ensure he’s permanently removed from America’s highways and can never harm another American family again,&#8221; Bis said.
Kumar is now locked up at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington, where he will face deportation proceedings before an immigration judge. The illegal immigrant pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges in March.

A Biden-appointed judge in Oregon on Thursday said he would block a Trump administration declaration stating that transgender medical procedures for children are not “safe” or “effective.” 
U.S. District Judge Mustafa Kasubhai sided with more than a dozen Democratic attorneys general who challenged the <a href="https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/declaration-pediatric-sex-rejecting-procedures.pdf">policy</a> issued by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in December 2025.
In that declaration, the Department of Health and Human Services said that “sex-rejecting procedures for children and adolescents are neither safe nor effective as a treatment modality for gender dysphoria, gender incongruence, or other related disorders in minors, and therefore, fail to meet professional recognized standards of health care.”
The administration <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.ord.191371/gov.uscourts.ord.191371.86.0_1.pdf">argued</a> the declaration was a general statement of policy. However, Kasubhai indicated that Kennedy did not follow the required procedures in issuing it.
“The notion that ‘I will go forward and issue a declaration and see if we can get away with it’ is not a principle of governance that adheres to the overarching commitment to a democratic republic that requires the rule of law to be regarded and respected and honored as a sacred,” Kasubhai <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/19/us/rfk-jr-transgender-care-ruling.html">said</a>. 
The judge delivered a verbal ruling from the bench and said a written decision would follow. 
The declaration addressed treatments including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries like mastectomies and vaginoplasties.
New York Attorney General Letitia James, one of the plaintiffs in the case, celebrated the ruling.  
“Health care services for transgender young people remain legal, and the federal government cannot intimidate or punish the providers who offer them,” James said. “It is my duty and my privilege to stand with trans New Yorkers and their families. I will always fight for the LGBTQ+ community.”
The ruling comes as the Trump administration has taken steps to cut off federal funding for all providers that offer such treatments to minors. In December, HHS <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-to-cut-funding-from-all-hospitals-that-perform-trans-procedures-on-kids">posted rules</a> to bar hospitals providing transgender procedures to minors from participating in Medicare and Medicaid programs, and would prohibit Medicaid’s Children’s Health Insurance Program from being used for transgender procedures for individuals under 19.

A major nurses union is holding secretive training sessions for union members to learn how to &#8220;fight&#8221; federal immigration enforcement in their hospitals.
An email reviewed by The Daily Wire reveals that the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) is promoting training sessions for nurses to resist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in hospitals.
ONA, which represents around 15,000 nurses, is the largest nurses union in Oregon. As an affiliate of National Nurses United—the largest nurses union in the United States—ONA also wields influence at the national level.
Notably, the email says that the sessions will not be recorded or posted publicly, adding a secretive element to the training sessions.
The email addresses &#8220;ONA members&#8221; with the subject line, &#8220;Trainings: Accountability for ICE&#8221; and reads as follows:
&#8220;As frontline healthcare workers, we are entrusted with a fundamental responsibility: to preserve life, reduce harm, and provide care with dignity to everyone who comes through our doors,&#8221; the email continues. &#8220;As ICE and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) activity increases across Oregon, that responsibility is in jeopardy. Intimidation and the use of force create fear that keeps immigrant communities from seeking care and until conditions become life-threatening. This fear directly interferes with our ethical, professional, and legal duties and endangers lives rather than protecting public safety.&#8221;
The training sessions were promoted as being run by ONA’s &#8220;Legal and Government Relations teams,&#8221; advancing &#8220;critical training and opportunity to join the fight against ICE and CBP in our hospitals.&#8221;
ONA offered two sessions, one early Wednesday, and one Thursday morning.
&#8220;The trainings will provide essential context on our role in this fight, practical guidance for frontline staff, and updates on our collective advocacy efforts,&#8221; nurses are told.

Specifically, the training promised to cover nurses&#8217; &#8220;legal rights and obligations as a healthcare worker if ICE or CBP enter your facility,&#8221; &#8220;ONA’s efforts to hold ICE accountable,&#8221; and &#8220;Opportunities to engage in ONA’s upcoming legislative fight to ensure hospitals remain places of healing.&#8221;
&#8220;Please note: Trainings will not be recorded or posted online. All attendees must register in advance. Anyone represented by ONA may attend,&#8221; the email added.
A registered nurse who received the email and attended one of the training sessions told The Daily Wire they found it odd that the sessions would not be posted publicly. &#8220;My question is WHY? Are they afraid that what they are &#8216;training&#8217; is possibly against the law?&#8221; the nurse posed.
The RN said the training session, in part, talked about legislation restricting ICE near hospitals, churches, and community centers.

<div>&#8220;They tried to remain vague when talking about how to directly address ICE in facilities,&#8221; the source told The Daily Wire, &#8220;And I did appreciate that their lawyers who spoke said that you &#8216;can’t physically obstruct ICE.'&#8221;</div>
Recently, an ICU nurse named Alex Pretti was killed during a scuffle with Border Patrol agents. Pretti was armed—though it remains unclear whether he ever brandished his weapon—and inserted himself into an encounter as agents were dealing with an agitator during an operation. Video from weeks before the incident shows Pretti <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/alex-pretti-attacked-immigration-enforcement-days-before-fatal-shooting-video-shows">spitting</a> at federal immigration officers and kicking out a vehicle’s taillight. The circumstances surrounding Pretti’s death remain under investigation.
Separately, as reported by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/virginia-nurse-urges-medical-professionals-to-inject-ice-agents-with-paralyzing-drug?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=7&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Virginia+Nurse+Urges+Medical+Professionals+To+Inject+ICE+Agents+With+Paralyzing+Drug">The Daily Wire</a>, a Virginia hospital fired a nurse after she encouraged other medical professionals to inject ICE officers with succinylcholine—a drug that temporarily paralyzes muscles—in order to “sabotage” them.
The nurse, who used the TikTok handle Redheadredemption, urged doctors and nurses to “grab some syringes with needles on the end” and “have them full of saline or succinylcholine, you know, whatever. Whatever.” She added, “That will probably be a deterrent. Be safe.”

The Daily Wire reached out to ONA about the training sessions and asked why they are explicitly being kept from the public.
An email from ONA Director of Communications Peter Starzynski defended the training sessions, accusing &#8220;unaccountable immigration enforcement&#8221; of &#8220;increasingly overstepping its authority and treading on the rights of local communities in Oregon—including patients, hospitals, and healthcare providers.&#8221;
&#8220;This places nurses in an extraordinarily difficult position of providing care to patients in a manner that is consistent with their professional obligations,&#8221; Starzynski said.
The communications director said the training sessions focus on the following:

ONA also posted to its Facebook page on January 25 about its participation in a vigil for Pretti.
&#8220;We must not standby [sic]. We must stand up against injustice and human rights violations. That is exactly what Alex Pretti was doing,&#8221; the post said. &#8220;He deserves justice. We honor his legacy and call on all major healthcare systems in Oregon to stand up for nurses, publicly denounce this killing and hold ICE and similar federal agencies accountable.&#8221;

In a lengthy statement on Pretti, ONA said, &#8220;A nurse&#8217;s job is to care for their patients — but they are also ethically bound to speak out in the face of injustice and human rights violations. Provision 8.2 of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses is clear: &#8216;Where there are human rights violations, nurses ought to and must stand up for those rights and demand accountability.&#8217; That is exactly what Alex was doing.&#8221;
Starzynski also told The Daily Wire that &#8220;hospitals can only function when everyone who enters follows the same rules&#8221; and &#8220;no federal agency should be above protocols designed to protect patients, healthcare workers, and the integrity of medical care.&#8221;
&#8220;Taxpayer dollars should not be used to undermine public health, violate basic rights, or erode trust in institutions meant to keep our communities safe,&#8221; he said. &#8220;For months, ONA has urged hospitals to support frontline caregivers by complying with state and federal patient protections. It appears more criminals are trying to run over DHS agents. Last Thursday in Portland, Oregon, two criminals attempting to run over an ICE agent were shot. 
Now, you’re not hearing quite as much about this story as the story in Minneapolis. That’s because it wasn’t some white lesbian activist. In this case, as the <a href="https://katu.com/news/local/homeland-security-identifies-venezuelan-couple-shot-by-border-agent-in-portland-incident-dhs-cpb-tren-de-aragua-gang-prostitution-ring-luis-david-nico-moncada-yorlenys-betzabeth-zambrano-contreras">local news</a> in Portland reports, the two people who tried to run over the federal agent were a suspected gangster and his prostitute, both of whom appear to have ties to Tren de Aragua. 
This is another example of body camera footage and the facts vindicating law enforcement, totally upending the liberal narrative. The same thing happened in Minneapolis. In fact, the Left&#8217;s attempt to gin up these kinds of stories against cops goes all the way back to the Michael Brown case.
Here we have a very clear case: illegal immigrants associated with a particularly violent Venezuelan gang, running a human trafficking ring, trying to run over cops, who were then shot. It appears they weren’t killed, but they were stopped.
And yet, the Police Chief in Portland, Bob Day, had a different take on law enforcement preventing Latin American gangsters from running them over:

The actions that occurred were that Venezuelan gangsters, associated with a foreign terrorist organization, tried to run over a cop, and he shot them.

The victim in this case being a Venezuelan pimp terrorist who was trying to run over a cop in America.

You don’t condone it? You should resign. You don’t condone federal law enforcement protecting itself against a terrorist trying to run them over? A pimp, Venezuelan illegal terrorist trying to run them over? You don’t condone that? Then you need to resign, because your judgment is severely impaired.
Portland’s police chief then starts crying. Crying? Even the most sensitive woman, the most opposed to violence, a dainty little gal with a modicum of common sense would not cry in this situation. If one were to cry in this situation, it would be on behalf of the poor law enforcement officer almost run over by these animals.
But no, he cries for the animals.

So how do we prevent more incidents like these? Allow federal law enforcement to vigorously enforce the law. 
Because if we don&#8217;t, one of two things will happen. Either these people are going to run amok, which will result in more rioting and a lot of dead leftist agitators, as happened during BLM. When the politicians told the cops to stand down, BLM burned down cities across the country. Dozens of people caught up in the mob violence were killed, many of them sympathetic to BLM. The other option is police and federal agents not allowing themselves to be run over — whether by agitators, white ladies in Minneapolis, or foreign gangsters. Those are the only two options.
If you want fewer dead agitators, which I do, then allow law enforcement to do their job. I don&#8217;t celebrate the death of the lady in Minneapolis. I don&#8217;t even really celebrate when Tren de Aragua gang members are mowed down. I would much rather see them reformed. Let them repent and lead flourishing lives. 
So if you want those people not to be injured or killed, you need the law to be enforced. You need to smash some windows in the cars blocking ICE officers, move them out of the street, and let law enforcement do their job.

A coalition of Democrat attorneys general sued to block the Trump administration’s efforts to protect children from transgender medical procedures. 
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield filed a <a href="https://www.doj.state.or.us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Oregon-v-Kennedy-Complaint-25cv02409.pdf">suit</a> on Tuesday seeking to challenge the Department of Health and Human Services’ actions to cut off funding for hospitals that perform transgender procedures on kids. In the suit, the Democrat officials claim that transgender procedures are “safe and effective” for young children. 
“By targeting Oregon providers, HHS is putting care at risk and forcing families to choose between their personal health care choices and their doctor’s ability to practice,” Rayfield claimed. “Healthcare decisions belong with families and their healthcare providers, not the government.”
Other states that joined the suit included California, New York, Wisconsin, and over a dozen others. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro also joined the suit. The suit claimed that HHS violated the Administrative Procedure Act and the Medicare and Medicaid statutes when it moved to cut funding for hospitals. 
“Research and clinical data support gender-affirming care as a safe and effective treatment for gender dysphoria in adolescents. Patients receiving gender-affirming care have high rates of satisfaction and low incidence of regret compared with other medical treatments,” the suit said. 
Those claims run afoul of research that shows that treatments like puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones can cause infertility, impaired sexual function, diminished bone density, altered brain development, and other irreversible physiological effects. The procedures endorsed by the Democrat officials also include genital mutilation and double mastectomies for girls who identify as boys.

Last week, HHS <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-to-cut-funding-from-all-hospitals-that-perform-trans-procedures-on-kids">posted rules</a> that will bar hospitals that offer transgender procedures to minors from participating in Medicare and Medicaid programs. The rules will also prohibit federal funding of Medicaid’s Children’s Health Insurance Program from going toward transgender procedures on those under 19 years of age. 
“Nearly all U.S. hospitals participate in Medicare and Medicaid, and this action is designed to ensure that the U.S. government will not be in business with organizations that intentionally or unintentionally inflict permanent harm on children,” an HHS background document on the announcement said. 
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that directed his administration to take action to end all support and funding for transgender procedures on children.

It was another totally normal Sunday in Portland — if your idea of normal involves spandex-clad lefty activists grapevining in front of a federal detention center.
Roughly two dozen self-described freedom fighters <a href="https://www.portlandmercury.com/photo-essay/2025/11/11/48117439/sweating-out-the-fascism-with-anti-ice-aerobics?utm_source=chatgpt.com">gathered outside the ICE facility</a> in the city’s South Waterfront earlier this week for what they called “Sweatin’ Out the Fascists.” Their chosen form of resistance? Aerobics.
Yes, the neon-leotard, Jane-Fonda-in-1983 kind.
The group, organized by a local gym called Fulcrum Fitness, claimed they were standing up for democracy and due process. Apparently, nothing says “down with authoritarianism” like synchronized lunges to Depeche Mode. Participants sported animal-print tights, leg warmers, and righteous indignation, all while doing their best to out-woo each other in time to new-wave beats from the 1980s. One instructor yelled, “It’s time to sweat out the fascists!” into a microphone — a sentence that surely made future historians put down their pens in despair.
In a city where past protests have involved tear gas and federal agents, this one had a different energy: part political statement, part flash-mob nostalgia trip, part very public cardio session. The organizers framed it as a “playful, creative” approach to dissent, as some demonstrators have been using absurd visuals to mock the Trump administration’s <a href="https://time.com/7321220/trump-portland-troops-antifa-deploy/">assessment</a> that a Portland ICE facility was “under siege from attack by Antifa” as exaggerated. Others might call it performance art for people who still own a VHS copy of Flashdance.
Halfway through the spectacle, ICE officers appeared on the roof with pepper-ball guns at the ready — a surreal juxtaposition of federal muscle and fluorescent spandex. Nearby campers got a few rounds of pepper balls for their trouble, while the aerobics crowd kept “vibing,” to use one participant’s word, apparently believing fascism could be burned off like extra calories.

The protest’s vibe of cheery absurdity fits into a local trend: previous anti-ICE events at the same facility have featured inflatable frogs, Latin dance classes, and crochet circles. It’s less Les Misérables and more Portlandia: The Resistance Edition.
One participant declared the goal was to show Portland isn’t “a war-torn city on fire” but a “fun-loving city” — because nothing says civic stability like mock-jogging in front of federal law enforcement. Another insisted that synchronized movement and community spirit were ways to “defy the fascist government.”
In the end, the protesters declared victory, having successfully demonstrated that revolution can, in fact, come in Day-Glo spandex and high-impact step routines. Whether ICE felt the burn remains unclear, but one thing’s certain: Portland has officially turned resistance into a workout plan.

The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Monday that President Donald Trump can deploy the Oregon National Guard to Portland to protect an ICE facility amid protests against the federal agency in the city.
“As we have always maintained, President Trump is exercising his lawful authority to protect federal assets and personnel following violent riots that local leaders have refused to address. This ruling reaffirms that the lower court’s ruling was unlawful and incorrect,&#8221; Abigail Jackson, White House spokeswoman, told The Daily Wire in a statement on Monday.
The Texas National Guard is still unable to be deployed to the city, according to the <a href="https://x.com/baylisswagner/status/1980351532433568058">San Antonio Express-News</a>.
“Finally, the proportionate response to the events in Portland further support that the President likely invoked [the law] lawfully and in good faith,” Judge Ryan Nelson, who was appointed by Trump, wrote in a concurring <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.ca9.b3c1c6b0-b390-4c9d-b557-fc5d525fd150/gov.uscourts.ca9.b3c1c6b0-b390-4c9d-b557-fc5d525fd150.61.0.pdf">opinion</a> in the case.
“A grossly disproportionate response could suggest that the executive might be acting pretextually, rather than in response to [the law’s] enumerated predicates,” he added.
However, Senior Judge Susan Graber, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton, strongly disagreed with the ruling, saying that “no legal or factual justification” existed to send in the Oregon National Guard.

“Given Portland protesters’ well-known penchant for wearing chicken suits, inflatable frog costumes, or nothing at all when expressing their disagreement with the methods employed by ICE, observers may be tempted to view the majority’s ruling, which accepts the government’s characterization of Portland as a war zone, as merely absurd. But today’s decision is not merely absurd,” Graber wrote.
“It erodes core constitutional principles, including sovereign States’ control over their States’ militias and the people’s First Amendment rights to assemble and to object to the government’s policies and actions. I strenuously dissent,” she continued.
Protests have been going on in the city since June, including over the weekend when federal law enforcement used tear gas, according to <a href="https://katu.com/news/local/portland-protests-at-ice-persist-as-federal-agents-use-tear-gas-oregon-portland-immigration-donald-trump-arrested-counter-protest-counterprotest-maga-democrats-republicans-no-kings">KATU</a>.
&#8220;At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists,&#8221; Trump posted to Truth Social in September.
&#8220;I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary. Thank you for your attention to this matter!&#8221; he added.
Similar protests led to National Guard deployment in Los Angeles over the summer, which led to an intense legal battle.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reminded CNN&#8217;s Kaitlan Collins that, as a reporter, it was her job to get to the bottom of things rather than to simply accept whatever party line came from the people in power.
While addressing the ongoing situation in Portland, Oregon — where Antifa rioters have squared off against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers while local police stand down and independent journalists get caught in the crossfire — Collins suggested that President Donald Trump&#8217;s plan to send in the National Guard was unnecessary.
&#8220;I spoke to the police chief of Portland last week. He said that the president&#8217;s claims just don&#8217;t match up with what&#8217;s happening on the ground,&#8221; Collins said, asking Leavitt whether she&#8217;d spoken to anyone who was in favor of a National Guard presence.

United States District Judge Karin J. Immergut on Sunday expanded her ruling from the day before, blocking the Trump administration from deploying hundreds of California National Guard troops to Oregon.
Immergut called “an emergency hearing Sunday, then broadened her restraining order to cover ‘the relocation, federalization or deployment of members of the National Guard of any state or the District of Columbia in the state of Oregon,’” The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/05/us/trump-national-guard-california-oregon-newsom.html">reported</a>. Meanwhile, the Trump administration still plans to send Texas National Guard troops to Chicago to restore order amid a series of anti-ICE <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fbi-arrests-two-after-attack-on-border-patrol-in-chicago?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=FBI+Arrests+Two+After+Attack+On+Border+Patrol+In+Chicago">attacks</a>.
On Saturday, Immergut <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.ord.189270/gov.uscourts.ord.189270.56.0_1.pdf">granted</a> the State of Oregon and the City of Portland’s motion for a temporary restraining order blocking President Donald Trump from federalizing the National Guard and sending them to Portland.
On Sunday, Immergut stated that “the relocation, federalization or deployment of members of the National Guard of any state,” implied that she wants to forbid Trump from sending out-of-state National Guard troops to Oregon to protect federal agents or property.
One social media user <a href="https://x.com/NapoleonBonabot/status/1975061867220611370">commented</a>, “I want you to realize how crazy this is. She is saying the Federal government has no jurisdiction to protect Federal property. The last time someone tried to argue this was Fort Sumter,” referring to the beginning of the Civil War, when the Confederacy argued that the U.S. federal government had no right to maintain or protect Fort Sumter because South Carolina had lawfully seceded from the Union, and therefore, Fort Sumter (located in Charleston Harbor) now belonged to South Carolina, and by extension, the Confederacy.

Additionally, there is precedent for the National Guard from one state being deployed to a jurisdiction outside its state. For instance, during the civil rights era riots in 1968, National Guard units from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland were <a href="https://www.nga.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/1968NGAAnnualMeeting.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com">sent</a> to Washington, D.C.
On September 27, 2025, President Trump posted a message on his Truth Social account stating that he was directing Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of War, to provide troops to protect “War ravaged Portland” from “Antifa, and other domestic terrorists” and authorizing “Full Force, if necessary.” On September 28, Hegseth issued a memorandum authorizing the deployment and federalization of 200 of Oregon National Guard service members, over the objection of Oregon’s Democratic governor, Tina Kotek.
Immergut noted in her decision that three reasons could be adduced to support a president “activating” the National Guard to serve on a mission, adding that the reason in Trump’s case could be derived from Title 10 of the United States Code, where the Guard is considered federal military and under the command of the U.S. President.
“Members of the National Guard generally do not receive training to perform local law enforcement tasks, such as learning de-escalation techniques, the use of non-lethal force, or how to properly conduct criminal investigations,” Immergut opined.
After delineating numerous instances of agitation, including protestors lighting fires to barricade a vehicle gate at an ICE facility, rocks and M80 fireworks hurled at Federal Protective Services officers, an assault of a federal officer with a machete and knife, the shining of high-powered flashlights in the eyes of drivers leaving the ICE facility, as well as ICE employees being “doxed” and having their personal information posted online, Immergut defended the plaintiffs instead, writing they “have adequately shown irreparable harm and that the balance of equities and public interest weigh in their favor” from the National Guard being federalized.
“Here, this Court concludes that the President did not have a ‘colorable basis’ to invoke § 12406(3) to federalize the National Guard because the situation on the ground belied an inability of federal law enforcement officers to execute federal law. The President’s determination was simply untethered to the facts,” she wrote.
“Defendants also argue that the September 28, 2025 federalization order is authorized under subsection two, which permits federalization of the National Guard in response to ‘a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States,’” Immergut stated. “First, a rebellion must not only be violent but also be armed. Second, a rebellion must be organized. Third, a rebellion must be open and avowed. Fourth, a rebellion must be against the government as a whole — often with an aim of overthrowing the government — rather than in opposition to a single law or issue.”
“The President also stated that ‘protests or acts of violence [that] directly inhibit execution of the laws constitute a form of rebellion. These conceptions of rebellion improperly conflate the statutory preconditions,” she contended. She also argued that sending in the National Guard would inflame the situation, asserting, “state and local law enforcement will need to expend additional resources to quell increased civil unrest that is likely to result from the Guard’s mobilization.”
“The issues at stake in this case are important, and the consequences of this Court’s decision are far-reaching. As soon as the federalized National Guard deploys to Portland, the state of Oregon will suffer an injury to its sovereignty,” Immergut argued.
“This is a nation of Constitutional law, not martial law. Defendants have made a range of arguments that, if accepted, risk blurring the line between civil and military federal power — to the detriment of this nation,” she concluded.

Topline: Tragedy rocked a small town in Michigan after a man targeted a Mormon church on Sunday, opening fire on the congregants and leaving the building ablaze.
The horrific attack on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc left the church completely engulfed in flames. Grand Blanc is a small community of about 8,000 people and a suburb of Flint, about 50 miles from Detroit.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. ET, while the church was in service. Hundreds of people were worshiping when the gunman rammed his truck into the building. He then opened fire on congregants, shooting at least 10 people. At some point, the church was set on fire; officials believe the fire was intentionally set by the suspect, perhaps using an accelerant such as gasoline.

According to police, the gunman was killed in a shootout with authorities. At least four people have been confirmed killed, not including the gunman, and multiple others were wounded. Officials have stated that they fear the casualty count will rise due to the fire.
The gunman: The shooter was a 40-year-old man from Burton, Michigan, just a few miles from the church, according to police.
A pickup truck was used to ram through the church. Reports say that the vehicle had two large American flags in the cab. Other reports have said the suspect is an Iraq War veteran.
Authorities said they have targeted the gunman’s home with search warrants and are going through cell phone records to find out more about the motive.
Step back: This comes a month after the deadly shooting that targeted the Annunciation Catholic School in Minnesota.
Washington reacts: President Donald Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115283020712432544">issued</a> a statement saying that this “appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America.” He asked that Americans “PRAY for the victims, and their families,” and added, quote, “THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!”
Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel also responded quickly, confirming that federal agents were on the scene to assist local authorities. Patel <a href="https://michiganadvance.com/2025/09/28/fatal-shooting-and-fire-at-michigan-mormon-church-police-say/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">added</a> that “violence in a place of worship is a cowardly and criminal act.”

Topline: President Trump continues to take his crime crackdown nationwide, announcing plans to deploy troops to Portland to protect ICE facilities. 
President Trump is clearly feeling emboldened to expand his efforts after the successful operation in DC. Now, he is looking for similar results in Portland, Oregon, a city ravaged by crime and violent political riots over the last five years.
Writing on Truth Social on Saturday, the president announced: “At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland … I am authorizing Full Force, if necessary.” 
Why Portland? Trump says the city is the epicenter of activity for &#8220;Antifa,&#8221; the far-left political movement that has been linked to riots and violent demonstrations for years now.
Militants have repeatedly laid siege to ICE processing facilities in the city, attacking agents with rocks, fireworks, and smoke grenades, blocking entrances, setting fires, and even doxxing federal agents, posting their home addresses on message boards and flyers around the city, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
In response to that violence in Portland and elsewhere, last week, Trump issued an executive order saying, &#8220;I hereby designate Antifa as a &#8216;domestic terrorist organization.&#8217;” calling it a “militarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States Government” while using a “campaign of violence and terrorism nationwide to accomplish these goals.” 
Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller <a href="https://x.com/Huberton/status/1971953265408725073">said</a> earlier this month: “The Antifa riots, the attacks on ICE officers, the doxxing campaigns, and now the political assassinations. These are not lone, isolated events. This is part of an organized campaign of radical left terrorism. It is structured and sophisticated, well-funded, it is well planned … It is terrorism on our soil.”
Portland pushes back: Flyers were reportedly posted around the city, calling on members to “Squad up. Make travel plans. Bring PPE and your unhinged Portland energy.”
Democratic lawmakers in the city have doubled down on their opposition to Trump — the city’s official website has a permanent banner at the very top that reads “Portland is a sanctuary city.” The site links to an anti-ICE hotline and reassures residents that local law enforcement will not cooperate with federal immigration agents. Over the weekend, Democratic lawmakers from across the city decried Trump’s efforts as authoritarian, saying they had things under control.
Oregon Democratic Governor Tina Kotek <a href="https://x.com/KatieDaviscourt/status/1972054518994190732">said</a> on Saturday: “Portland and the state of Oregon believe in the rule of law, and we can manage our own local public safety needs. There is no insurrection, there is no threat to national security, and there is no need for military troops in our major city. They are not needed here.”
On Sunday, Oregon and Portland filed a joint lawsuit against the Trump administration in an effort to block the deployment of the state’s National Guard. Their suit claimed in part, “Far from promoting public safety, Defendants’ provocative and arbitrary actions threaten to undermine public safety by inciting a public outcry.”

Topline: The FBI placed hundreds of plainclothes agents in the crowd around the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The years-long refusal by the FBI to acknowledge those 274 agents until now has raised many questions about past bureau leadership.
Trump weighs in: President Trump aired some frustration on his <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115277207989888806">Truth Social</a> account on Saturday. He wrote, “This is different from what [former FBI Director Christopher Wray] stated, over and over again!” Trump lumped in Wray with former FBI Director James Comey as two officials who “got caught lying.” The president later told <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-weighs-whether-doj-investigate-former-fbi-director-christopher-w-rcna234225">NBC News</a> that he “would certainly imagine” that Wray is being investigated by the Justice Department.
The new sheriff: FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fbis-patel-clarifies-role-hundreds-agents-jan-6-says-wray-lied-congress">clarified</a> that the plainclothes agents were sent in “against FBI standards” after the riot had started for crowd control, and that “[t]his was the failure of a corrupt leadership that lied to Congress and to the American people about what really happened.”
The hot seat: Wray is facing numerous questions, even from rank-and-file FBI agents who were present at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. An after-action report <a href="https://justthenews.com/accountability/fbi-bombshell-274-agents-sent-capitol-j6-many-later-complained-they-were-political">revealed</a> to Congress last week lists a host of issues that agents have had with FBI leadership. Several agents have expressed concerns that politics had deeply influenced the bureau’s mission over the course of Comey and Wray’s tenures.
Another indictment?: Republican Congressman Andy Biggs of Arizona said Wray “will be held accountable” and pointed to an <a href="https://x.com/RepAndyBiggsAZ/status/1679164288546529281">exchange</a> he had with Wray in 2023:
<blockquote>BIGGS: I thought I heard you say you didn&#8217;t know whether there were FBI agents or informants or human sources in the Capitol or in the vicinity on January 6th. Did I misunderstand you? I thought that&#8217;s what you said. 
WRAY: I referred very specifically to undercover agents.
BIGGS: And so are you acknowledging, then, there were undercover agents?
WRAY: As I sit here right now, I do not believe there were undercover agents on scene.</blockquote>
Worth noting: If it comes to an indictment, some have disputed that “plainclothes” is synonymous with “undercover.” Additionally, Wray made it clear that he believed his statements to be true, but stopped short of explicitly stating they were true. This ambiguity underscores that, regardless of the frustration over the FBI, perjury cases are challenging to win convictions in.
