Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Owen Wilson</a> reportedly turned down a $12 million payday to star in a movie about the late <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/o-j-simpson">O.J. Simpson</a>.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">project</a>, willed as a “satirical thriller” called “The Juice,” is currently in production with British filmmaker Joshua Newton taking the lead.  
The movie depicts Simpson as being innocent of the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. The former NFL Hall of Famer was acquitted of the crime in 1995 following a high-profile criminal trial, but many people believe the verdict was incorrect.
A jury found Simpson liable for the murders during a civil trial in 1997 and awarded the victims&#8217; families $33.5 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
Newton said he had envisioned Wilson playing attorney Douglas McCann in the film, but the actor shut down initial talks.
“Owen Wilson was perfect for the role,” the filmmaker told Rambler Reporter, per <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/04/24/owen-wilson-turned-down-lead-role-oj-simpson-movie-innocent/">TMZ</a>. 
“I actually had a meeting with him in Santa Monica. Everybody loved the script. His agent wanted him to do it. We offered him $12 million dollars,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;But at the end of the lunch, Owen stood up and said, &#8220;If you think I’m going to take the lead role in a movie about how O.J. didn’t do it, you’ve got to be kidding me.'&#8221;

Newton went on to say that he found another actor who was “spot on” for the part and that 30 minutes of the film had been completed.
There have been multiple films and documentaries made about the murders and subsequent trial of Simpson over the years. The infamous case has been referenced in countless movies, TV shows, songs, and even video games.
The drama with Simpson made headlines earlier this year following his death from cancer at the age of 76. The former Buffalo Bills running back had been released from parole in 2021 after being found guilty of armed robbery and kidnapping in 2007. He served nine years in prison for the crime before being released in 2017.

O.J. Simpson died on Thursday at the age of 76, and the media didn&#8217;t quite know what to do.
They didn&#8217;t know what to do because O.J. Simpson was a murderer, and everyone knows he was a murderer. But he spent the last half of his life being treated by some in the media as though he was a sort of controversial figure.
A headline from the <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/podcasts/post-reports/how-will-oj-simpson-be-remembered/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington Post</a> summed this up: “How will O.J. Simpson be remembered?”
The answer for everyone who remembers the O.J. Simpson murder trial is that he will be remembered as a person who very obviously murdered his ex-wife and a person named Ron Goldman, and then proceeded to be alleviated of the criminal responsibility for that double murder by a jury of people who were politically motivated, to the celebration of a wide swath of the American population.
He&#8217;ll be remembered as a person who dramatically widened the gap between the races in the United States, which, in some ways, has never truly closed. It seemed as though that between the trial of O.J. Simpson and the election of Barack Obama, America was becoming more racially reconciliatory. 
But Barack Obama opened those gaps wide again in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

The O.J. Simpson trial was the moment when Americans realized that the attempts of the 1960s and 1970s to move beyond America&#8217;s terrible history of racism had some pretty impactful consequences, and that there were two sides to the racial conflict in the United States because up until the Civil Rights movement, there really was only one side.
That side had been American white supremacists treating black people as chattel and as trash. After the Civil Rights movement, the idea was that we would put all of that behind us. We were going to move forward in a country that tries to actually meet the guarantees of the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal.
But then, in the O.J. Simpson trial, it became very clear to a lot of Americans that the standard of equal justice for all was not only a matter of if that could be reached, but it was also a matter of if everyone wanted that standard to be reached.
That&#8217;s what the O.J. Simpson trial meant for a lot of people. And that&#8217;s why he will be remembered as a double murderer who got away with it for racial political reasons.
Simpson left the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown in his wake. Not just that; he still owed more than $100 million to their families because they won civil trials against him after losing the criminal trial in favor of convicting him.
The evidence against O.J. was overwhelming. Everyone knew he was guilty. No one legitimately believed he was innocent. It was just a question of whether you wanted to see him acquitted because of racial reasons.
Those racial reasons were explained at the time and are being explained even now by people who believe that somehow, some sort of revenge was deserved for America&#8217;s terrible racial history.
After he killed two white people, suddenly his cause became a “racial cause.” And that racial logic has kept up even until today.
Marc Lamont Hill, a true believer in the perverse ideology of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and critical race theory, <a href="https://twitter.com/marclamonthill/status/1778461905268412472" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a> yesterday, 
<blockquote>O.J. Simpson was an abusive liar who abandoned his community long before he killed two people in cold blood. His acquittal for murder was the correct and necessary result of a racist criminal legal system. But he&#8217;s still a monster, not a martyr.</blockquote>
So he acknowledges O.J. Simpson murdered two people in cold blood and was a monster, but he still deserved to be acquitted.
No country obviously can survive for very long on the basis that, as long as you are a member of a particular race, you deserve to be acquitted for murdering somebody else of another race in that sort of pure, unbridled hatred and racism. It wrecks societies.
The more faith you show in the political narrative, the more you&#8217;re willing to pick a bad example and say even it applies to your narrative. And O.J. is the worst example of all.
At the time of the trial, some black people and white people responded incredibly differently to the verdict.

Even today, there are people who are trying to make excuses for why O.J. was acquitted because the real question is not really why O.J. did what he did. He was a sociopathic murderer who murdered two people in cold blood. The real question is why the legal system did what it did and why Americans reacted the way they did.
O.J. Simpson died a free man. The idea that there is some underlying question of justice with regard to O.J. Simpson that would have allowed for the moral imprimatur to be placed upon his acquittal is morally unrighteous foolishness.
O.J. Simpson was a double murderer. He should have gone to jail. And if you believe that questions of race should take precedence over questions of actual blood guilt, that makes you a bad person. That is not how justice works.
When social justice, which is what this is, trumps individual justice, when the idea is that a racial narrative — a true racial narrative about black victimhood in America —  is supposed to trump the fact that a black man killed two white people, you have lost the thread of decency and morality.
Justice cannot work under these circumstances.

A Nicole Brown Simpson docuseries is in the works at the Lifetime network, which reportedly will attempt to reclaim her story following her and friend Ron Goldman’s murder in 1994.
News of the two-part series, titled “The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson,” dropped one day after her ex-husband <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/o-j-simpson-dead-at-76-following-battle-with-cancer">O.J. Simpson</a>’s death at 76 following a battle with prostate cancer, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/nicole-brown-simpson-doc-lifetime-1235872318/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Hollywood Reporter. The former NFL star and Brown Simpson were married for seven years and share two kids. In 1994, she was found murdered at the Brentwood home she shared with Simpson.
Simpson was famously acquitted in 1995 of the double murder of his ex-wife Brown and Goldman following a murder trial that captured the attention of the nation and created a media frenzy.
The docuseries has reportedly been in the works for more than a year with the plan to release it in June, marking the 30th anniversary of her and Goldman&#8217;s murder on June 12, 1994, <a href="https://people.com/nicole-brown-simpson-the-subject-of-new-lifetime-documentary-8630449">People magazine</a> noted. Dozens of close family and friends were reportedly involved in the series, which is said to have unprecedented family access and provide exclusive archival video, the outlet noted. With Simpson’s death on Thursday, the docuseries could reportedly drop even sooner.

The series is part of the network’s larger Stop Violence Against Women initiative, and will reportedly tell Nicole Brown’s side and her multiple experiences with domestic violence, People noted.
Despite Simpson’s acquittal, the actor/athlete was found liable for Brown and Goldman’s deaths two years after the murder trial in a civil trial brought by the victims’ families and was ordered to pay more than $33 million in damages.

Simpson was later arrested in Las Vegas and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping in 2007. A group of men led by Simpson entered a room at the Palace Station hotel-casino at gunpoint with the intention of stealing sports memorabilia which he claimed had been taken from him. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison with a minimum of nine years without parole and was released in 2017 after serving that minimum. The former NFL star was released from parole in 2021.
On Thursday, Simpson’s family shared the news that he had died.
&#8220;On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” the statement on X read. “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.&#8221;

In 1995, there were two very different versions of the O.J. Simpson trial playing out. For most of the country, the trial was a spectacle. A lot of crazy stuff happened — so much that most people don&#8217;t remember all of it.
Overnight, for example, the National Enquirer tabloid <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1994/10/24/us/the-enquirer-required-reading-in-simpson-case.html">morphed</a> into a crack legal publication that broke several exclusive stories about the proceedings. They had 20 reporters working on the case, coming up with transcripts and scoops that everyone else missed. And of course, Norm Macdonald made so many jokes about the case that he was fired from SNL because of it. In the decades since, there hasn&#8217;t been any trial remotely like it — covered wall-to-wall, for months, by pretty much every channel in America. It was entertainment.
At the same time, in black areas of Los Angeles, and in major cities all over the country, the O.J. Simpson trial wasn&#8217;t just a spectacle. It was also about revenge for the Rodney King acquittals and police corruption more generally. That&#8217;s been discussed quite a bit over the last 30 years.
What&#8217;s gotten less attention is that, with the O.J. trial, for the first time, it became widely acceptable to think about the deaths of white people as necessary collateral damage to exact this kind of political revenge.
There was no social media at the time, and cable news was pretty sanitized. So no one with a major television platform came right out and directly said this. But they didn&#8217;t need to. It was obvious, especially if you looked at how little concern there was among O.J. supporters for Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman and their families.

Nicole Brown, as you might remember, was repeatedly beaten by O.J. before she divorced him. And then he hunted her down and nearly cut her head off. Everyone knew this, but not everyone cared. It was apparent from the reactions when O.J. was acquitted. It was euphoria, and it broke down along racial lines. Watch:

It&#8217;s pretty disturbing footage, especially since at the time it didn&#8217;t cause a lot of outrage. Thousands of people all over the country, most of them black, celebrated the acquittal of someone who obviously just murdered two people. At the time, serious people understood that this was jury nullification. But no one really explored the implications. What does a country look like, over the long term, when murdering white people is seen as acceptable, for any reason? What happens when the media and major political figures endorse this barbarism?
No one seemed to care, even after a juror from the O.J. trial came right out and admitted, many years after the fact, that 90% of the jurors knew that O.J. was guilty. But the jurors acquitted him anyway, because they were driven by a desire for &#8220;payback.&#8221; Watch:

She knows it&#8217;s wrong to let a killer go free, but she did it anyway. So did the rest of the jury.
This has all been known for a while now. What&#8217;s less widely known is that the Los Angeles DA at the time, a Democrat named Gil Garcetti, engineered this acquittal. An attorney named Dilan Esper has <a href="https://x.com/dilanesper/status/1297642386340712448" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cataloged</a> all the ways that Garcetti rigged the trial in favor of O.J. The big one is that he didn&#8217;t try the case in Brentwood, which is in West Los Angeles. That would have been the logical place to hold the trial because Simpson had lived in Brentwood for two decades. But Brentwood is almost exclusively white. And Garcetti recognized that, for O.J. to have the best chance of acquittal, given the racial politics of the case, he needed to pick a new venue. So he chose downtown Los Angeles — where he was able to secure an overwhelmingly black jury with just a couple of white people on it.
Garcetti made several other decisions to swing the case for O.J. For example, he declined to pursue the death penalty after publicly meeting with Johnnie Cochran — who was just about to join O.J.&#8217;s defense team. That was a significant decision because a death penalty jury has to answer &#8220;yes&#8221; to the question of whether they&#8217;d be OK with sentencing someone to death. That weeds out a lot of Left-wing jurors immediately. So Garcetti chose not to do it.
Additionally, Garcetti chose to present the prosecution&#8217;s entire case during pretrial hearings, giving the defense a chance to scope out all of the witnesses well in advance of trial. As Esper points out, this ultimately worked to the defense&#8217;s advantage in a major way. O.J.&#8217;s lawyers picked up on one inconsistency in the pretrial testimony — relating to the amount of blood collected by police investigators — and made it a major part of their defense.
These were not errors, or sloppy work by the prosecutors. These were intentional efforts by Garcetti to avoid convicting O.J. Simpson, which would have ended his political career. Pretty much every black voter in Los Angeles would have voted to remove Garcetti if O.J. was found guilty. Indeed, even after O.J. Simpson was found not guilty, Garcetti refused to prosecute him for perjury in the civil trial, even though it was clear O.J. Simpson lied several times. That&#8217;s how committed Garcetti was to keeping O.J. Simpson out of jail.
Again, anyone paying attention during this whole saga understood everything that was going on at the time. This is not new information. What is new is that, now that O.J. Simpson is dead — he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/o-j-simpson-dead-at-76-following-battle-with-cancer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">died yesterday</a> of cancer —  mainstream news outlets are just coming right out and admitting it. They&#8217;re acknowledging that O.J. Simpson was guilty, but that he simply couldn&#8217;t be convicted because of race politics. 
Here for example is a CNN journalist explaining on-camera yesterday that in 1995, a lot of black people loved to see a black man get away with murdering two white people. She catches herself mid-way through, but it&#8217;s clear what she&#8217;s saying. Watch:

We&#8217;d have a much better understanding of today&#8217;s race politics, and how to put an end to it, if we could have admitted this back in 1995. A lot of people wanted to see a black man get away with murder. The two white people were simply collateral damage.
A professor named Marc Lamont Hill spelled this out <a href="https://x.com/marclamonthill/status/1778461905268412472" target="_blank" rel="noopener">very clearly</a> yesterday:

In other words, you can kill white people without penalty. As long as the criminal legal system is racist — and people like Marc Lamont Hill believe it&#8217;s irredeemably, irreparably racist forever — then it&#8217;s fine to basically decapitate white people. That&#8217;s according to someone who collects a paycheck paid by the government of New York to teach the next generation.
Yesterday, Hill elaborated on his reasoning, essentially saying that O.J. had every right to kill his victims because a police officer involved in the case used a racial slur at some point in the past. Watch:

You&#8217;ll notice there&#8217;s no regard whatsoever in Marc Lamont Hill&#8217;s mind for the two victims. Their families aren&#8217;t entitled to justice, all because a detective on their murder case used a racial slur. If you use the n-word, then any white person who&#8217;s tangentially related to you deserves to die. That&#8217;s basically what he&#8217;s saying. A lot of people thought this in 1995, but they didn&#8217;t say it in public. That&#8217;s changing.
The reason several mainstream outlets spent yesterday eulogizing O.J. Simpson as some kind of victim is that they approve of what he did. There&#8217;s no other way to spin it.
The New York Times, for example, <a href="https://x.com/EndWokeness/status/1778446276440264921" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> that quote, &#8220;A jury in the murder trial &#8230;. cleared Mr. Simpson, but the case ruined his world.&#8221; They quickly edited that out of the piece when people pointed out that he stabbed two people to death and therefore &#8220;ruined&#8221; their worlds, too. 
For its part, NPR wrote the following <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/o-j-simpson-coverage-york-230410329.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">headline</a> on something called &#8220;Threads:&#8221; &#8220;BREAKING NEWS: The football great Orenthal James Simpson, known as O.J., has died.&#8221;
The Associated Press, meanwhile, <a href="https://x.com/AP/status/1778583977718165987" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a>: &#8220;Legendary athlete, actor and millionaire: O.J. Simpson&#8217;s murder trial lost him the American dream.&#8221;
Those are all real headlines. Everyone knows exactly what&#8217;s going on here. The only way to get glowing headlines like this from the corporate media is if you kill people they don&#8217;t like. It&#8217;s the same reason The Washington Post <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50205592" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described</a> that ISIS leader as an &#8220;austere religious scholar.&#8221; O.J. Simpson killed members of a disfavored demographic, so they&#8217;re mourning him as a victim, not the people he killed.
This kind of attitude was everywhere yesterday. There was no focus on the victims whatsoever. CBS News interviewed one of O.J.&#8217;s lawyers from the 1995 trial, named Carl Douglas. In the interview, he comes out and declares what he saw as a main benefit of the trial. Again, it had nothing to do with justice or finding the truth or the &#8220;real killers.&#8221;
Instead, it was about showing to the world that black lawyers can get defendants off, too. Watch:

&#8220;And whatever you think of this verdict, for Black Americans, it was not speaking about O.J. Simpson per se.&#8221;
That about sums it up, straight from one of O.J.&#8217;s lawyers. The O.J. trial was not about O.J. Simpson. The trial was arguably the beginning, or at least a landmark moment on the way towards, our current era of racial insanity. The race hustlers of the time rallied around O.J. not because they thought he was innocent but because they saw him as an agent of revenge. And Democratic Party elites in Los Angeles like Gil Garcetti did everything they could to ensure O.J.&#8217;s acquittal so that he could serve that function.
But nobody was more explicit than CNN contributor Ashely Allison, a former senior advisor in the Obama White House. Listen to what she chose to say out loud on national television yesterday:

“He represented something for black Americans because it was two white people who’d been killed.” That’s what black Americans connected with, according to this woman. They felt affinity with O.J. because he brutally slaughtered white people. Talk about saying the quiet part out loud. Although, as we’ve seen, it’s hardly the quiet part anymore.
This mentality has metastasized over time, helped along by Barack Obama, leading to the rise of BLM, and culminating in Floyd and the 2020 riots, and then the post-Floyd era of DEI. Now, 30 years later, so-called &#8220;race relations&#8221; have deteriorated to the point that the race hustlers finally feel comfortable coming out and telling us what their motives were all along.
Yes, O.J. Simpson is dead. But the legacy of that trial, particularly the racial violence and distrust that it normalized, is still very much alive.

Conan O’Brien praised late-comedian <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/norm-macdonald-says-he-didnt-want-to-leave-anything-on-the-table-as-he-jokes-about-mortality-and-death-in-final-stand-up-special" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Norm Macdonald</a>’s past jokes about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/o-j-simpson-dead-at-76-following-battle-with-cancer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">O.J. Simpson</a>’s murder trial that resulted in Macdonald losing his job at “Saturday Night Live.”
During the late-night talk show host’s appearance on Thursday with CNN’s Jake Tapper, the two talked about the news of the day &#8212; Simpson’s death at 76 following a battle with prostate cancer, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/conan-obrien-recalls-nbc-network-chief-tight-oj-fired-snls-norm-macdonald">Fox News</a> reported.

&#8220;It was a, you know, massive – there have been many times in this country where we’ve needed to stop and reassess where we are in our racial history, and where are we, what progress have we made, and that was one of those moments and it was such a watershed moment,&#8221; O’Brien continued.
Tapper then asked O’Brien if he was going to make a joke about Simpson, and he replied, &#8220;I never make a joke about someone the day they pass.”
The late-night talk show host wasn’t the only one remembering Norm’s jokes on Thursday, with clips of Macdonald going viral on social media about his cracks at &#8220;The Juice&#8221; and saying that murder was &#8220;legal in the state of California&#8221; after Simpson&#8217;s acquittal, Fox News noted.
Despite the pro athlete being acquitted during the criminal trial, he was found liable for Brown Simpson and Goldman&#8217;s deaths three years later in a civil trial brought by the victims’ families and was ordered to pay more than $33 million in damages.
Simpson was later arrested in Las Vegas and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping in 2007. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison with a minimum of nine years without parole and was released in 2017 after serving that minimum. The former NFL star was released from parole in 2021.

Former NFL running back Orenthal James Simpson, better known as O.J. Simpson, has died after a battle with cancer, his family announced Thursday on social media.
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” an X post on his official account said. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
It was signed, “The Simpson Family” and replies were limited.

Simpson, who was 76 at his time of death, achieved national fame after becoming a college football star and later playing with the NFL for 11 seasons, mostly with the Buffalo Bills. He&#8217;s considered to be one of the greatest running backs in franchise history.
The pro athlete became a notorious figure following the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994. The pair were found stabbed to death outside Nicole’s condo in Brentwood. Simpson was arrested and charged with murder, but was later acquitted following a high-profile trial.
Simpson and Brown were married from 1985 until 1992. In 1989, Simpson pleaded no contest to spousal abuse.
The trial was a tabloid obsession that captivated the world. Simpson’s acquittal is considered by many to be a massive failure of the American justice system.

A group of men led by Simpson entered a room at the Palace Station hotel-casino at gunpoint with the intention of stealing sports memorabilia which he claimed had been taken from him. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison with a minimum of nine years without parole and was released in 2017 after serving that minimum. The former NFL star was released from parole in 2021.
Simpson is survived by four children from two marriages, including Sydney and Justin, who he shared with Brown. One of Simpson’s sons from his first marriage drowned in 1979.

And apparently Simpson wasn’t the only strange run-in the &#8220;Tombstone&#8221; star has had. Oliver said Russell reportedly had a &#8220;run-in with Ted Bundy&#8221; and also someone in the <a href="http://decider.com/tag/charles-Manson"> Charles Manson</a> gang. However, the &#8220;Fools Gold&#8221; star interjected on the idea of the famed actor&#8217;s latter two run-ins and said &#8220;I might not believe either of those stories.&#8221;
Regardless, Oliver continued telling the story of how &#8220;The Thing&#8221; star was living in a county in Colorado at the time when serial killer <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/notorious-serial-killer-ted-bundy-escape-custody/story?id=61032623" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bundy</a> escaped custody there. Russell was camping and they said he left his campsite to get a beer and when he returned his food was gone.
After Bundy was caught, Oliver said the murderer recounted being able to stay on the run after finding a campsite and eating the camper&#8217;s food when they left.

On Tuesday, O.J. Simpson, who was famously acquitted for the double murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and was later convicted for armed robbery in Las Vegas in 2008 before being paroled in 2017, weighed in on Will Smith striking Chris Rock at the Oscars, saying of Smith, “Look, I understood the feeling” and complaining, “I&#8217;ve been through a lot of crap when I was raising two young kids and every comedian in the country had an O.J. routine, and don&#8217;t think I wouldn&#8217;t want to b-slap a couple of those guys but you got to accept that it&#8217;s human.”
In a video he posted on Twitter, Simpson began, “Hey &#8230; it’s yours truly. I just had to run to a quiet spot. I’m here on that other coast. I got here thinking spring break was over and I would come and get behind it but evidently places like Delaware, University of Delaware and stuff, they do late spring break. They chase me. I finally got to a place that’s a little quiet.”
“Now I thought the question I would be getting all day would be the question about the overtime rule of the NFL,” he continued. “Well, you know, I don’t totally agree with it because I wish they would have done it like they do college, where both teams get the ball from like thirty yards in and go in, but anything is better than what happened last year. To not see Josh Allen have an opportunity to keep that game going &#8230; it hurt me.”
Then he turned to the incident at the Oscars:

On June 12, 1994, after having dinner with her family at a Los Angeles restaurant, Nicole Brown Simpson was found stabbed to death at her home along with Ron Goldman, a waiter at the restaurant who had gone to her home to return glasses her mother had forgot. “Simpson was in Los Angeles the evening of June 12 but took a late flight that night to Chicago. When he returned to Los Angeles the next day, he was interviewed by police, but not immediately arrested,” <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/key-moments-oj-simpsons-life/story?id=48724637">ABC News</a> recalled.
On Oct. 3, 1995, after a trial, Simpson was acquitted; in 1997, Simpson was found liable for wrongful death in the case by a civil jury and ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages to the Brown and Goldman families.
“In September 2007, Simpson led a group of men into a Las Vegas hotel and casino to steal what he claims was his own sports memorabilia at gunpoint. &#8230; In 2008, Simpson was found guilty in the botched robbery and sentenced to up to 33 years in prison,” ABC News noted.

As Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) works for preserve her position within House GOP leadership, unlikely allies have rushed to her defense, including convicted felon O.J. Simpson.
In a video posted to Twitter on Monday Simpson, who was famously acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman in the mid-1990s before being convicted of armed robbery in the 2000s, said that Liz Cheney has earned his respect because she &#8220;stands up for truth.&#8221;
“I gotta admit, I was not a fan of Liz Cheney,&#8221; he said. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m 50-50 on her politics, but I didn’t like her. And then I just realized recently, the reason I didn’t like her had to do with her father, probably my least favorite politician of my adult life, former Vice President Dick Cheney.&#8221;
“Then I saw a show the other day and I saw a quote by Voltaire and it said that patriotism was the enemy of mankind,” Simpson said as he reflected upon how the quote made him to think about &#8220;the Republican Party.”
Notably, Simpson misquoted the philosopher who said, “It is lamentable that to be a good patriot, one must become the enemy of the rest of mankind.&#8221;
According to O.J., truth has become the &#8220;enemy&#8221; to many Republican politicians.
“It’s seems that that big truth and honesty, seems to be the enemy of many of these Republican politicians,” he said. “And Liz Cheney stands up for the truth, that’s got her a lot of heat. She may lose her position in the party, she may even lose her career as a politician, but that is something to be admired. Standing up for the truth, that’s something I know her father wouldn’t have done so, right now I’m kind of a fan of Liz Cheney.&#8221;

The former football star, a.k.a. “The Juice,” fell from stardom when he stood credibly accused in the stabbing death of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. A jury acquitted Simpson in the infamous criminal trial, later memorialized for a new generation in the FX miniseries, “The People vs. O.J. Simpson.”
The football player-turned-actor was later found civilly liable in a 1997 “wrongful death” case. To this day, he still owes the Goldman and Brown families an estimated $70 million in civil damages.
In 2007, Simpson was found guilty of an armed robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas, Nevada. Simpson was sentenced to 30 years in prison with the possibility of parole in nine years. Eventually, the Nevada parole board ruled in Simpson’s favor, granting him early release.
Simpson has since joined social media and posts frequent commentary on political and cultural subjects.
As to Liz Cheney&#8217;s future in the Republican Party, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has endorsed replacing her as the House Republican Conference Chair. A vote is expected to happen later this week.

The internet exploded on Monday after reports emerged that Jeffrey Toobin, a New Yorker staff writer and longtime CNN analyst, was suspending by the magazine after he allegedly masturbated during a Zoom call.
Citing two sources &#8220;who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to speak freely,&#8221; Vice <a href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/epdgm4/new-yorker-suspends-jeffrey-toobin-for-zoom-dick-incident">said</a> &#8220;it was unclear how much each individual person on the call saw, but both of the people we spoke to said that they saw Toobin&#8221; masturbating during an &#8220;election simulation.&#8221;
&#8220;The two sources described a juncture in the election simulation when there was a strategy session, and the Democrats and Republicans went into their respective break out rooms for about 10 minutes,&#8221; Vice wrote. &#8220;At this point, they said, it seemed like Toobin was on a second video call. The sources said that when the groups returned from their break out rooms, Toobin lowered the camera. The people on the call said they could see Toobin touching his penis. Toobin then left the call. Moments later, he called back in, seemingly unaware of what his colleagues had been able to see, and the simulation continued.&#8221;
Stimulation? Oh, simulation.

Toobin on Monday said it was all an accident. “I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers,&#8221; he said in a statement to Vice.
“I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video,” he added.

A new documentary features diary entries by the late Nicole Brown Simpson in which she recounted in chilling detail alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband, O.J. Simpson.
Simpson allegedly murdered Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman on Oct. 3, 1994; he was acquitted in what was termed the “Trial of the Century.”
The court in Simpson’s trial allowed only edited versions of some of Nicole’s diaries to be admitted. “Prosecutors were unable to use Nicole Brown’s diaries in the criminal case, in which Simpson was acquitted, because of the rule excluding hearsay evidence,” the Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1996-03-02-mn-42126-story.html">reported</a>.
&#8220;OJ and Nicole: An American Tragedy,&#8221; a new documentary on Investigation Discovery that will air on the 25th anniversary of Nicole’s death, features the numerous diary entries. “Nicole wrote about 60 occasions that Simpson allegedly physically abused and threatened her including during their stormy marriage,” <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8783929/Nicole-Brown-Simpsons-secret-diaries-reveals-horrific-abuse-suffered-hands-OJ-Simpson.html">the Daily Mail</a> reports.
The diaries, which were in Nicole’s safe deposit box next to photos of her bruised face and letters of apology from O.J., state that the first time Simpson beat Nicole up was in 1978. “1st time he beat me up after Louis + Nanie Mary anniversary party. Started on the street corner of NYC 5th Ave at about 9 (pm),” one entry reads, adding, “Threw me on the floor, hit me, kicked me. we went to the hotel where he continued to beat me for hours and I continued crawling for the door.”
Another entry states, “Smashed my car (white Mercedes) with Baseball Bat after visiting Tommy Hughes. He greeted me at the gate. I was too afraid to get out of the car. He did it because I was late, about 7-8 p.m.”
The couple wed in 1985; a 1986 entry reads, “Eric &amp; Val Von Watts. Listened to music at my place on Wilshire (Blvd in Los Angeles). After we finished our drinks we left. (Simpson) beat me up so bad at home. Tore my blue sweater and blue socks completely off me. Went to hospital on Wilshire, pretended it was a bicycle accident.”
An entry dated Jan. 10, 1988, when Nicole was two months pregnant with their son Justin. States that Simpson demanded she have an abortion and aimed a gun at her. Another entry: “O.J was drunk, he never let up. Get out my f****** house you fat a** liar. I packed a few things together. He locked the door again. I buzzed. Do I really have to go tonight? (Their daughter) Sydney’s sleeping, it’s late. Let me tell you how serious I am. I have a gun in my hand, get the f*** out of here.”
One diary entry states that after a gay man kissed their son, “O.J. threw me against walls in our hotel and on the floor. Put bruises on my arms and back. The window scarred me &#8211; thought he’d throw me out.”
Former LAPD officer John Edwards appears in the documentary; he recalls visiting the Simpsons’ house after Nicole called 911; he states he found her badly beaten, adding, “A woman came running out, a tall blonde woman, and she was yelling ‘He’s gonna kill me.’ I said who? She said: ‘O.J.’ I said ‘O.J. Simpson?’ She said: ‘You’ve been up here eight times already and you’ve done nothing about it.’”
At the trial, Edwards asserted, “I could see on her face she had a mark like a hiking boot, she looked like she’d been kicked in the head … I look over my head and here comes O.J. Simpson right to where the gate is and he’s yelling, I mean screaming: ‘I don’t want you around here any more. I got two women; I don’t want you around here any more.’”
Investigation Discovery boss Henry Schleiff stated, “This documentary is not here to retell the famous trial, but to remember the woman who struggled with domestic violence and now tells her side of the story, in her words, for the first time.”
