President Donald Trump will reportedly issue an executive order officially recognizing gender as &#8220;male&#8221; and &#8220;female&#8221; only on his first day in office Monday.
According to The Free Press, the executive order <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/trumps-day-one-executive-order-male-female-gender-ideology-pronouns" target="_blank" rel="noopener">will</a> be titled, “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”
The order will reportedly officially define a woman as an “adult human female.”
It will also <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/20/us-news/trump-executive-order-to-define-sex-as-male-and-female/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reverse</a> the current policy of allowing people to change their sex on passports and personnel records. Since 2010, Americans have been able to choose male, female, or &#8220;X,&#8221; a designation that will be eliminated under the new order.
The order will also attempt to ban housing men in women&#8217;s prisons as well as taxpayer-funded medical gender transitions for prisoners. This move is likely to be challenged in court by liberal opponents. The order also aims to protect women&#8217;s privacy in migrant shelters and rape shelters.
Also, the order intends to prevent federal funds from promoting gender ideology, and federal agencies will be prevented from doing so.
The order also includes protections for Americans&#8217; First Amendment rights not to use &#8220;preferred pronouns&#8221; in the workplace and public schools.
Under the order, the attorney general will also be directed to tell agencies to ensure that federal workers are provided with Title 7, part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race and sex.

Trump was sworn into office around noon on Monday and is expected to sign a flurry of executive orders on a range of issues from immigration to gender ideology.
Gender ideology became a flashpoint during the election, especially as parents across the country sounded the alarm on child medical gender transitions.
Vice President Kamala Harris also attracted negative attention on the issue after the Trump campaign released wildly successful television ads highlighting her support of far-left policies, including taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for illegal migrants and federal prisoners.

A job <a href="https://jobs.lever.co/BFP/7c8d8bd8-59c2-4261-8381-e97d883d2bc8/apply">application</a> on the campaign website allows those seeking employment to choose from nine sets of gender pronouns total, including seven sets that deviate from the usual “he/him” and “she/her.” They are sometimes referred to as “<a href="https://www.them.us/story/gender-neutral-pronouns-101-they-them-xe-xem">neopronouns.</a>”
Applicants who identify as nonbinary or even claim to be &#8220;agender&#8221; can select neutral pronoun sets like “they/them,” or the shortened version, “ey/em,” or “xe/xem” or “ze/hir.”    Other options include &#8220;hir/hir,&#8221; and a shortened version of the word &#8220;human,&#8221; which is &#8220;hu/hu.&#8221;  And there is &#8220;fae/faer,&#8221; which appears to be used by people who <a href="https://everypronoun.tumblr.com/post/634779894881173504/about-faefaer-pronouns-coming-from-someone">consider themselves to be fairies</a> or practice Wicca. Others have said that the use of the pronouns may constitute <a href="https://www.tumblr.com/gendercensus/643657043304153088/on-faefaer-pronouns-and-cultural-appropriation">cultural appropriation</a>.

An “optional diversity survey” asks applicants for their preferred pronouns, race, ethnicity, gender identity, and whether they &#8220;identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.”
The Kamala Harris campaign’s apparent focus on DEI continues from the Biden-Harris administration&#8217;s emphasis on its implementation in the federal government.

Chloe Cole, a detransitioner who is outspoken about the harms of child transgender medical interventions, reacted Monday to Elon Musk saying he &#8220;lost&#8221; his son to gender ideology.
The Tesla founder said he was &#8220;tricked&#8221; into putting his son on puberty blockers, and the &#8220;woke mind virus&#8221; figuratively killed his child in an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/dr-peterson-x-elon-musk">interview</a> with Dr. Jordan Peterson on DailyWire+ which premiered live Monday afternoon.
Cole said Musk&#8217;s experience reminded her of her family&#8217;s experience with the psychologists and physicians they were seeing at the time.
&#8220;They really drilled this idea hard into my mom and dad that if I were denied this, if I weren&#8217;t allowed to medically transition at the young age that I was — I was 13 when I started the medical process — that I would commit suicide, that I would be gone,&#8221; Cole said in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, which Musk bought in 2022.

&#8220;It was basically the premise of having a dead daughter versus a living, happy, thriving transgender son,&#8221; Cole said. &#8220;And of course, they did not fully disclose the actual extent of how these treatments could and would affect me in my development, in my physical and psychological health.&#8221;
Cole began identifying as male when she was just 12. She was put on puberty blockers and testosterone and received a double mastectomy before age 17, when she began identifying as female again and detransitioned.
&#8220;My mom and dad and I had no idea what we were really in for. And I went through this as the child, as the patient, but I can&#8217;t fathom the pain of being a parent and watching this happen to your own child,&#8221; Cole continued.
Cole offered words of encouragement to Musk, the same ones she said she has offered her dad.
&#8220;I&#8217;m sorry that this happened to you and your son, Elon. But I&#8217;ll tell you what I say to my own dad,&#8221; Cole said, her voice breaking. &#8220;And that is that you might feel a lot of guilt for signing off on this, but it was at a time where you weren&#8217;t given any other option, and you were just doing the best with what you were given, and that wasn&#8217;t very much.&#8221;
&#8220;What these doctors are doing to children and their families is evil,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s unconscionable. And I&#8217;m so grateful that, in spite of that pain that you&#8217;re going through, you still have chosen to speak up, and I&#8217;m so incredibly grateful for your conviction in fighting against this movement that is tearing up families like ours. Thank you, Elon.&#8221;
During Peterson&#8217;s interview, Peterson asked Musk why he was willing to make child medical transgender interventions an issue.
&#8220;Well, it happened to one of my older boys,&#8221; Musk said. &#8220;I was told oh, Xavier might commit suicide &#8230; It&#8217;s incredibly evil, and I agree with you that the people who are promoting this should go to prison.&#8221;
&#8220;So I was tricked into doing this. It wasn&#8217;t explained to me that puberty blockers are actually just sterilization drugs,&#8221; Musk said. &#8220;I lost my son, essentially. They call it &#8216;deadnaming&#8217; for a reason. The reason it&#8217;s called &#8216;deadnaming&#8217; is because your son is dead. So my son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus. On Monday, California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law legislation making his state the first in the nation to ban school districts from alerting parents of their children&#8217;s sexuality, or if they use pronouns or have adopted gender identities that conflict with those on their school records.
“This bill would prohibit school districts, county offices of education, charter schools, and the state special schools, and a member of the governing board or body of those educational entities, from enacting or enforcing any policy, rule, or administrative regulation that requires an employee or a contractor to disclose any information related to a pupil’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to any other person without the pupil’s consent unless otherwise required by law.”
Assembly Bill 1955 <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB1955" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>, “LGBTQ+ pupils have the right to express themselves freely at school without fear, punishment, or retaliation, including that teachers or administrators might &#8216;out&#8217; them without their permission. Policies that require outing pupils without their consent violate pupils’ rights to privacy and self-determination.”
California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus Chair Susan Eggman celebrated, “Today is a great day for California. The Governor’s signature on AB 1955, a first-in-the-nation policy, reaffirms California’s position as a leader and safe haven for LGBTQ+ youth everywhere.”
&#8220;AB 1955 is an outrageous attempt to keep parents in the dark while schools indoctrinate kids with radical gender ideology,&#8221; said Harmeet Dhillon, CEO and Founder of the Center for American Liberty. &#8220;By signing the bill, Gov. Newsom is transferring power away from our local communities and centralizing it in Sacramento, blatantly undermining our democratic values.&#8221;
In July 2023, the Chino Valley Unified School District became the state’s first to require parental notification if a student adopted a transgender identity. The next month, California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a temporary restraining order to bar the district from implementing that policy.
“I can’t believe we’re at a point in America where authoritarians in power are fighting this hard to keep sexual secrets about children from their own parents,” Liberty Justice Center Board Member Corey DeAngelis <a href="//E1D32FF3-2E21-4127-96A0-6E4A9764580C/v" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>. “They are now using the heavy hand of the state to subvert local control and try to strip away the most fundamental parental rights. I’m proud of the parents in Chino Valley Unified who are fighting back for their constitutional right to direct the upbringing of their children. I’m proud to be a board member at Liberty Justice Center, fighting alongside them. We will win this war the authoritarians are waging on parents.”
After AB 1955 was introduced earlier this year, Jacob Huebert, the president of the Liberty Justice Center, which represented Chino Valley, declared, “Parents have a right to know what their own minor children are doing at school — and school officials have no right to keep secrets from parents. That’s true now, and it will still be true if the state passes this bill. We will continue to stand with parents and the school districts that want to respect their rights — and we’ll continue to represent them free of charge, at no cost to taxpayers.”
Several school districts in the state implemented parental notification policies, including Anderson Union High School District, Chino Valley Unified School District, Murrieta Valley Unified, Orange Unified School District, Rocklin Unified School District, and Temecula Valley Unified.

Sam <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sam-brinton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brinton</a>, the disgraced Biden administration official who was arrested for stealing women’s luggage at multiple U.S. airports, snagged a cushy plea deal last week.
The former Department of Energy employee <a href="https://freebeacon.com/biden-administration/crossdressing-luggage-snatcher-and-ex-biden-official-sam-brinton-gets-sweetheart-plea-deal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">will serve</a> no jail time after he pled guilty to misdemeanor petty larceny, downgraded from his felony grand larceny charges that carried a sentence of up to 20 years, the Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/biden-administration/crossdressing-luggage-snatcher-and-ex-biden-official-sam-brinton-gets-sweetheart-plea-deal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Back in 2022, Brinton, 37, who uses they/them pronouns, was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgraced-non-binary-biden-official-helped-create-school-policy-to-hide-childrens-gender-changes-from-parents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fired</a> as deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy and charged with stealing a woman’s Vera Bradley suitcase from the Minneapolis airport and another woman’s suitcase from the Las Vegas airport. The suitcases and their contents had a combined value of more than $9,000, according to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/former-biden-official-sam-brintons-mug-shot-released-bail-set-15000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">police</a> and court <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-non-binary-nuclear-official-charged-stealing-womans-luggage-airport" target="_blank" rel="noopener">documents</a>.
Then, in May of last year, Brinton was <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/non-binary-ex-biden-official-sam-brinton-arrested-again-fugitive-justice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> a third time for stealing a Tanzanian fashion designer&#8217;s luggage with her custom designs, which he proceeded to wear himself at high-profile public events. That theft occurred at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
In all three cases, Brinton has escaped jail time.
The plea deal in the designer clothes case was quietly announced last week by prosecutors in Arlington General District Court.
Brinton is now required to undergo mental health treatment, write a letter of apology, and perform 50 hours of community service helping the elderly, per the terms of his plea deal.
The Tanzanian designer, Asya Khamsin, went public with her allegations against Brinton last year after seeing photographs in news articles of Brinton wearing her custom designer clothes.
“I saw the images. Those were my custom designs, which were lost in that bag in 2018,” she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-find-female-designers-stolen-clothes-at-home-of-sam-brinton-non-binary-former-biden-official-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “He wore my clothes, which was stolen.”
She said she had flown to Washington, D.C., for an event where her clothing was set to be on display, but when her designs went missing, she was not able to show them.
At one point, the fashion magazine Vanity Fair <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vanity-fair-published-fashion-feature-on-sam-brinton-showcased-allegedly-stolen-dress?utm_campaign=news&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_content=na_feed_dailywire&amp;cid=news&amp;mid=&amp;xid=0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> an article praising Brinton&#8217;s style, including some of Khamsin&#8217;s designs he was wearing.
Khamsin also sued Brinton and reached a settlement this week. In it, Brinton agreed to pay her an unknown amount of money and wrote her an apology letter.
&#8220;Mr. Brinton has apologized to Asya Khamsin, and Asya Khamsin has forgiven Mr. Brinton,&#8221; Khamsin&#8217;s attorney said. &#8220;Asya Khamsin has decided not to publish Mr. Brinton’s letter of apology, as she considers the letter to be quite personal, sensitive, sincere, and heartfelt.&#8221;
A follow-up hearing scheduled for June of next year will examine Brinton&#8217;s progress.
Brinton initially attracted attention for being one of the federal government’s first “non-binary” officials.

Scholastic is encouraging teachers to &#8220;disrupt the status quo&#8221; by exposing children to LGBT books this Pride Month, telling them they &#8220;absolutely know queer children.&#8221;
The children&#8217;s book publishing company recently released its 2024 <a href="https://www.scholastic.com/content/dam/scholastic/educators/discussion-guides/read-with-pride-disc-guide.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">guide</a> for Scholastic&#8217;s <a href="https://www.scholastic.com/site/read-with-pride.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">annual</a> &#8220;Read With Pride&#8221; initiative, which includes LGBT children&#8217;s book recommendations.
The guide assures teachers, caregivers, and &#8220;advocates&#8221; that &#8220;whether or not they are out to themselves or you, you absolutely know queer children and interact with them in your classrooms, libraries, and communities.&#8221;
&#8220;Books and literature are never neutral; by engaging with queer literature for children and young adults, you are disrupting the status quo that implies being cisgender, heterosexual, and allosexual are the default. You are showing children an expanded way of thinking and being that validates all children and all people,&#8221; the guide states.
Scholastic recommends LGBT books for children as young as preschool age.
For &#8220;the youngest reader,&#8221; Scholastic recommends several books, including &#8220;My Moms Love Me&#8221; about a lesbian couple with a baby, and &#8220;You Are Loved,&#8221; a book in which &#8220;readers will meet families with two moms and two dads,&#8221; <a href="https://www.scholastic.com/site/read-with-pride/books.html#loved" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the description.
Scholastic recommends dozens of books for older children ages eight to 12, including three by the same author, Alex Gino. &#8220;Melissa&#8221; is about a trans-identifying boy, and the other two books are about non-binary characters.
&#8220;When people look at Melissa, they think they see a boy named George. But she knows she&#8217;s not a boy. She knows she&#8217;s a girl,&#8221; reads the book&#8217;s description.
Another recommended book for ages eight to 12 is &#8220;Moonflower&#8221; by Kacen Callender. It is about a depressed non-binary 12-year-old who is &#8220;afraid that their mom hates them&#8221; and travels to a &#8220;spirit realm.&#8221;
The guide includes dozens of books aimed at young teens 14 and up, including &#8220;The Feeling of Falling in Love&#8221; by Mason Deaver, which introduces children to the idea of a &#8220;friend with benefits.&#8221;
The guide also lists resources for &#8220;supporting&#8221; LGBT youth and books, including The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that says it works to prevent LGBT youth suicides. The new <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/disney">Disney+</a> Star Wars animated series “Tales of the Empire” just introduced a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nonbinary">nonbinary</a> character.

The clip is from episode five of the series, which includes six shorts. It introduces a character about to surrender to an Inquisitor (a character who hunts Jedi) before another Inquisitor, The Fourth Sister, strikes the Jedi down with a lightsaber.
“They’re still alive,” the Inquisitor says while checking the character’s heartbeat. “We need to get them to the ship. We can save them.”
The Fourth Sister replies, “Forget it. Let them die. It’s not worth the trouble.”
“They were about to surrender,” the Inquisitor argues.
The “Star Wars” franchise has dabbled in radical left-wing gender theory before. Director J.J. Abrams <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rise-of-skywalker-will-feature-first-lesbian-kiss-in-star-wars-history">bragged</a> in 2019 that the film “Rise of Skywalker” would include a kiss between two women.
“In the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film,” Abrams told Variety at the time. “I will say I’m giving away nothing about what happens in the movie. But I did just say what I just said.”

Disney also added two “trans and non-binary” Jedi Knights on the cover for Marvel’s “Star Wars: The High Republic” comic series in 2021.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/disney-world">Walt Disney World Resort</a> guest was reportedly disappointed with &#8220;Story Book Dining&#8221; at Wilderness Lodge in Orlando, Florida. Upon encountering a character portraying the Evil Queen from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” He believes the employee was a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lgbtq">biological male</a>. 
The unnamed Disney guest reached out to the fan blog <a href="https://thatparkplace.com/exclusive-walt-disney-world-cast-members-express-support-but-concern-over-the-evil-queen-situation/">That Park Place</a> to voice his concerns, discussing how he and his family had been looking forward to meeting the Evil Queen during their visit. 
He said his kids posed for photos with the Evil Queen who “without a doubt had a man’s voice.”
“I told my waiter that I had a problem with something. He then asked what was the issue and I simply stated I have a problem with Evil Queen being a man dressed in drag. The waiter immediately said he was going to get a manager and he looked panicked,” the guest reportedly told the blog.
“At first I said I wanted to formally complain about the Evil Queen being a man and that I felt very disrespected by Disney because this is not the sort of thing my family values and they didn’t give us any type of notice that this sort of thing was even a possibility,” he continued. 
“I stated we are a conservative Christian family, I’m spending $8,000 on this current trip in addition to the tens of thousands I’ve spent together in the past at Walt Disney World and Disney Cruises, and that this is not right,” the guest continued.

“For the most part the manager just listened and never once apologized for anything. At one point the manager stated ‘I can assure you that she is a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/transgender">woman</a>.’ She went even further, trying to shame me, informing me that ‘she’ was so excited to get the part as the Evil Queen. For a brief moment I thought ‘oh… maybe I’m wrong’ but then I realized that I was just being gaslighted,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;I politely told the manager that ‘I know what you are doing and that I do not appreciate the fact that you are trying to be funny and disingenuous.’ So since the manager doubled down I also doubled down and asked, ‘Is the Evil Queen a biological male?’ The manager’s reply was, ‘I’m sorry sir, I cannot answer that.’”
A <a href="https://twitter.com/wdwpro1/status/1782611140503056676">clip</a> of an employee portraying the Evil Queen was posted on X and has 5.5 million views. It was an excerpt of a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeG5JU_UpyU">YouTube video</a> posted in January from an account reviewing a Story Book Dining experience at Artist Point located inside Disney&#8217;s Wilderness Lodge in Orlando.
The person behind That Park Place reportedly spoke with several anonymous cast members who work with the individual in question. 
“The only thing I personally feel safe saying as a statement is that Inclusion is a Key for a reason,” the anonymous source said, citing one of Disney World’s new policies. “It’s the newest Key the company has introduced. Inclusion means Everyone Belongs. Guests and Cast Members alike. No matter who you are, no matter how you identify, if you’re cisgendered, trans or non-binary, you can be a performer. Especially a look-alike one.”

Disneyland made headlines last year when photos and videos showed male cast members in dresses greeting guests at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disturbing-man-in-a-dress-welcoming-children-to-disneyland-princess-boutique-sparks-outrage-on-twitter">reported</a>. 
These changes have been seen ever since Disney parks updated its uniform policy in 2021 to allow employees, or as they’re referred to in the park, “cast members,” to wear gendered clothing of their preference regardless of their biological sex.
Reps from Walt Disney World did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A medical examiner has determined that the death of Oklahoma “nonbinary” teenager Nex Benedict, which became a national news story based on media suggestions that the teen died from a beating by bullies, actually died from an intentional drug overdose.
In a statement, the Owasso Police Department said it waited to release the cause of death until the toxicology report was completed, KJRH <a href="https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/me-report-reveals-nex-benedicts-cause-of-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. That toxicology report indicates that Benedict died by suicide, the result of an overdose of Diphenhydramine and Fluoxetine, or, Benadryl and Prozac.
&#8220;From the beginning of this investigation, Owasso Police observed many indications that this death was the result of suicide,&#8221; the police statement said. &#8220;However, investigators did not wish to confirm that information without the final results being presented by the Oklahoma Medical Examiners Office.&#8221;
The original narrative surrounding Benedict’s death was that the teen died as a result of a beating from three girls who had been bullying Benedict and Benedict’s friends. Teen Vogue <a href="https://www.teenvogue.com/story/nex-benedict-everything-we-know-about-16-year-old-oklahoma-students-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> when the story broke that “a source who claimed to be the mother of Benedict’s best friend told a local outlet the cause of death was ‘complications from brain trauma,’ and that ‘three older girls were beating the victim and her daughter in the girl’s bathroom.’”
This same anonymous source told the outlet that Benedict needed help walking to the nurses’ station after the fight and that Benedict texted a family member saying the teen “got jumped at school 3 on 1 had to go to the ER.” Benedict also claimed the girls “had been bullying me and my friends and I got tired of it so I poured some water on them and all 3 came after me. School did not report to the police and is probably getting sued.”
Other media outlets followed that general narrative, while also blaming Oklahoma law that requires students to use the bathroom that corresponds to their biological sex.
The narrative of the tragedy was revealed to be completely different than what certain media outlets reported. Benedict told a police officer while in the hospital with no visible injuries that the three girls didn’t actually start the fight, <a href="https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/2024/02/23/oklahoma-teen-dies-nex-benedict-owasso-police-bodycam-footage-of-interview/72719139007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to The Oklahoman</a>.
&#8220;They said something like &#8216;why do they laugh like that,&#8217; and they were talking about us, in front of us,&#8221; Benedict told police officer Caleb Thompson, referring to the other girls involved in the fight. &#8220;So, I went up and poured water on them and all three of them came at me.&#8221;
Benedict’s mother told the officer that the three girls had bullied Benedict and the teen&#8217;s friends previously, even claiming the girls had thrown things at them. But the actual encounter that took place the day before Benedict died involved Benedict instigating the fight. Throughout the interview, Benedict’s mother refers to Benedict using female pronouns.
Thompson also informed Nex that because of this, Benedict could face assault charges.
&#8220;You got freedom of speech,&#8221; Thompson told Benedict and Benedict’s mother, referring to the other teen girls. &#8220;The minute you threw water on them you made the first jab. It may not go the direction you want it to go.&#8221;
&#8220;Running the mouth is freedom of speech, unfortunately,&#8221; the officer adds. &#8220;You can say mean, hurtful things all day long and you gotta let it roll off your shoulder.&#8221;
Benedict returned home from the hospital but the next day, Benedict’s mother called 911 to report the teen’s breathing was shallow. Benedict died shortly after – due to an overdose, not any physical trauma.
Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/oklahoma-schools-chief-says-radical-leftists-exploiting-death-of-nonbinary-student" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously called out</a> the media&#8217;s portrayal of Benedict&#8217;s tragic death.
“I think it’s terrible that we’ve had some radical leftists who decided to run with a political agenda and try to weave a narrative that hasn’t been true,” Walters <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/23/us/oklahoma-nonbinary-student-superintendent.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times in February. “You’ve taken a tragedy, and you’ve had some folks try to exploit it for political gain.”
“We’ve been told death wasn’t directly related to the fight at school,” he added.
The same New York Times article, several paragraphs above the claims by Walters, suggests that her death was related to the fight the day before, referring to &#8220;the death earlier this month of a 16-year-old nonbinary student a day after an altercation in a high school girls’ bathroom.&#8221;

Oklahoma’s public schools chief last week called out the &#8220;radical leftists&#8221; he said are exploiting the death of a young student who identified as &#8220;nonbinary.&#8221;
Nex Benedict, 16, died on February 8, the day after an altercation in the high school girls&#8217; bathroom. A cause of death has not yet been revealed, but police said the death was <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/nex-benedict-body-camera-footage-interview/story?id=107516210">unrelated</a> to physical trauma from the fight.
Last week, Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters criticized those trying to politicize the situation.
“I think it’s terrible that we’ve had some radical leftists who decided to run with a political agenda and try to weave a narrative that hasn’t been true,” Walters <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/23/us/oklahoma-nonbinary-student-superintendent.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times. “You’ve taken a tragedy, and you’ve had some folks try to exploit it for political gain.”
“We’ve been told death wasn’t directly related to the fight at school,” he added.
Walters also reiterated that Oklahoma schools would not allow students to go by preferred names or pronouns at odds with their biological sex.
“You always treat individuals with dignity or respect, because they’re made in God’s image,” Walters said. “But that doesn’t change truth.”
He added, “There’s not multiple genders. There’s two. That’s how God created us.”
The bathroom altercation happened at Owasso High School near Tulsa.
On the day of the fight, Benedict admitted in an interview with a police officer to pouring water on several girls in the bathroom who were allegedly making fun of Benedict. The girls responded by knocking Benedict to the floor and &#8220;beating&#8221; Benedict, the teen said.
Benedict&#8217;s mother <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5nHh8ghaEc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refers</a> to her child with female pronouns in the police body cam video of that interview, which took place at the hospital the same day. Benedict went home later that day.
However, the next day, Benedict was rushed back to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The bathroom altercation lasted less than two minutes, according to the school district, and Benedict is seen able to walk in the aftermath of the bathroom fight in a video <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/23/us/oklahoma-nonbinary-student-superintendent.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> by the Owasso Police Department. The school district also said the students involved in the altercation were able to walk to a nurse&#8217;s office afterward.
The state medical examiner’s office said the report on Benedict&#8217;s cause of death would eventually be made public, but declined to comment in the meantime on the autopsy or any toxicology results.

Walters has been outspoken about his opposition to radical gender ideology, which has spurred attacks from leftists.
Last year, Walters <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nbc-obfuscates-child-pornography-charges-against-oklahoma-drag-queen-principal">called</a> for the firing of an Oklahoma school principal who was previously charged with child pornography and moonlighted as a drag queen.
Back in the fall, Walters <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/not-going-to-do-the-transgender-game-oklahoma-education-board-denies-districts-request-to-let-students-change-gender-on-records" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> the state was &#8220;not going to do the transgender game&#8221; when it came to changing students&#8217; genders in school records.

Close to half of the trans-identifying people polled in a recently released U.S. survey reported having &#8220;serious psychological distress&#8221; in the previous month.

About 44% of those surveyed said they had experienced serious psychological distress in the last 30 days, according to the U.S. Transgender Survey from the National Center for Transgender Equality, which was conducted in 2022 from October 19 through December 5.

Nearly a third had also been homeless at some point, a preliminary <a href="https://transequality.org/sites/default/files/2024-02/2022%20USTS%20Early%20Insights%20Report_FINAL.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">analysis</a> of the survey&#8217;s findings released Wednesday revealed.
The survey, which says it is the largest of trans-identifying people in the country to date, polled 92,329 people who identify as transgender or non-binary, including more than 7,000 teens who were 16 and 17, although most of the questions did not include the minors.
For several reasons, the survey <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/07/health/trangender-survey-harassment-poverty.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cannot</a> be taken to be representative of the U.S. trans-identifying population as a whole. One issue is that it did not poll a random sample, and another is that it skews young — 43% of the adults polled were age 24 or younger.
The study included significantly more biological women than men — 55% were women and 43% were men. Another 2% identified as crossdressers.
About 35% were biological men who identified as women, and 25% were biological women who identified as men. Other than the tiny percentage of crossdressers, the rest identified as non-binary, making that the biggest group at 38%.
The large number of non-binary identities was driven by women. Only 8% were men who identified as non-binary, while 30% were women who identified as such.
The study reported that the vast majority of people, 94%, who lived at least some of their time as their new gender identity, said they were more satisfied with life. Meanwhile, 98% of people who were currently receiving hormone treatments and 97% of people who had received gender surgery said the medical interventions made them more satisfied with life.
However, critics quickly questioned these conclusions, noting that detransitioners, people who identified as transgender but no longer do, were not included.

Studies have shown that it can take several years for people to regret their gender transitions. One 2022 study <a href="https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/107/9/e3937/6572526?login=false" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that 30% of more than 950 teens had stopped taking cross-sex hormones after four years.
Among the survey&#8217;s teen respondents, 44% reported that their families were supportive of their new gender identities.
Among the adult respondents, nearly a third said they had been homeless at one point, more than a third said they were in poverty, and the unemployment rate among respondents was 18%.
The full report on the survey&#8217;s 600 questions is expected later this year.

&#8220;This is not only in terms of our size and style range for women, but — most importantly — in our love and acceptance of all races, ethnicities, body shapes and sizes, genders and sexual orientations,&#8221; the spokesperson said. &#8220;This hasn&#8217;t changed and never will change.&#8221;
&#8220;Many commenters are using the excuse that they believe it is &#8216;insulting to women&#8217; when in reality, it&#8217;s quite clear they are homophobic and have an issue with someone expressing their sexuality proudly and confidently,&#8221; the spokesperson added.
&#8220;Imagine living a life where you choose to be offended by something and stick around, comment and engage only to make yourself more and more angry,&#8221; the spokesperson continued. &#8220;This sounds like a &#8216;them&#8217; problem, not an &#8216;us&#8217; problem to be honest.&#8221;
