Journalist Chris Cuomo revealed Monday that he called former President Donald Trump after the second assassination attempt against him, saying he is &#8220;ashamed&#8221; of the &#8220;unacceptable&#8221; reaction from the media.
The former CNN host, who anchored a show at the network for eight years until 2021, made the remarks on his primetime NewsNation show Monday night.
&#8220;The reaction is unacceptable,&#8221; Cuomo said. &#8220;Media and political players have gotten away with playing down what should be a cause for panic.&#8221;
On Sunday, Trump was targeted by a suspect who pointed an AK-47-style rifle through a fence at Trump&#8217;s West Palm Beach golf course. Secret Service opened fire on the suspect, who fled but was later arrested. Trump remained safe and unharmed during the incident.

&#8220;&#8216;Oh but the guy didn&#8217;t even shoot.&#8217; What if it was your father? Or what if it was Kamala Harris or President Biden, God forbid?&#8221; Cuomo said. &#8220;Do you think that it would be almost a shoulder shrug and more talk about the Secret Service and allocation of funds than just how crazy it is that this is what&#8217;s happening in our country?&#8221;
Cuomo also slammed the &#8220;fake concern by our sitting president and almost nothing from the Democrat who wants to lead us.&#8221;
&#8220;I called former President Trump,&#8221; Cuomo said. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t ask him any questions. I didn&#8217;t go after him about his role. I just want to know how his family&#8217;s taking this.&#8221;
&#8220;I wanted to just say, listen, I&#8217;m really sorry that this is going on and it&#8217;s being dealt with this way,&#8221; Cuomo continued. &#8220;Not because I&#8217;m in favor of his politics or what he says. I criticize him all the time. That&#8217;s my job, and he deserves it. But he doesn&#8217;t deserve this, a guy pointing an AK-47 at him while he&#8217;s playing golf? And we take solace in the fact that the guy didn&#8217;t get any rounds off? That does not work for me. If I had been through what that guy has been through in the last two months you would not know where I am. You would never see me on TV again. No way I would do that. I don&#8217;t know how he does it. He&#8217;s got kids that are adults, but he&#8217;s got grandkids. He&#8217;s got a wife.&#8221;

Cuomo also said critics should apologize to Trump&#8217;s wife, Melania, for mocking her fears about plots against her husband.
Last week, Don Lemon, another former CNN anchor, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/fox-news-hsots-mock-don-lemon-melania-trump-1953542" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> a video of himself rolling his eyes and criticizing a video of Melania Trump expressing concerns about the &#8220;horrible and distressing experience&#8221; of watching her husband be nearly assassinated.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t think she&#8217;s right, but I totally get why she feels that way, and people mock her?&#8221; Cuomo said.
Cuomo added that the rhetoric around both candidates is overblown, saying Trump is not a &#8220;despot in waiting&#8221; and Vice President Kamala Harris is &#8220;not a communist.&#8221;
&#8220;You can think what you want about Trump,&#8221; he said. &#8220;He does not have many more full-throated critics of what he says and does than me, okay? And yet I called him today because I am ashamed of how we are responding and not responding to the threats on him. And I feel for his family.&#8221;
&#8220;We are playing a dangerous game with ourselves, and we&#8217;re doing it for petty stakes,&#8221; Cuomo said.

NewsNation host and Mediaite founder Dan Abrams warned that the media&#8217;s &#8220;breathless&#8221; coverage of Donald Trump — particularly his recent comments predicting a &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; if he loses his 2024 re-election bid — was more likely to help the former president than to hurt him.

President Joe Biden&#8217;s re-election campaign was among them, arguing that Trump&#8217;s prediction was proof that he &#8220;wants another January 6.&#8221;

Abrams then went on to say that the media&#8217;s dishonest wall-to-wall coverage of that one remark ultimately gave Trump protection on two fronts: first, it guaranteed that he would be correct when he complained about being taken &#8220;out of context,&#8221; and second, it kept everyone occupied while other things he had said during the same speech — such as referring to January 6th defendants as &#8220;hostages&#8221; went largely unnoticed.
&#8220;This plays out perfectly for Donald Trump. He gets to say, rightly, the media took his comments out of context and the rest of his speech gets largely forgotten,&#8221; Abrams said.

During his show on Tuesday, Cuomo interviewed 20-year-old Baylen Dupree, who has amassed an audience of 9 million followers on TikTok, which she uses to educate people about the neurological disorder.
&#8220;I’m not going to censor her. Yeah, she’s going to say some things that you would not want to say yourself, let alone have said to you, which is probably going to be my position,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But as I told Baylen just moments ago, she’s not going to say anything to me that my whole team hasn’t wanted to say since the day that they met me. But I love the bravery and I love that we can get through the stigma and just treat somebody with decency because we all deserve it.&#8221;
During various moments throughout the interview, Dupree would have moments where her Tourette’s syndrome took over.
&#8220;I want people to learn that Tourette’s is a neurological, involuntary motor and vocal disorder,&#8221; she said. &#8220;F*** off. F*** off. F*** off. I don’t tic 24/7, and there’s a lot of… Little baby weiners. F*** off. F*** you, Chris. There’s a lot of things that people don’t understand. Like, people think that cussing is with everyone who has Tourette syndrome, but it’s only in 10 percent of people with Tourette’s.&#8221;
During another moment, Dupree said: &#8220;I also get very evil people that would comment and say like — go f*** yourself, Chris. Little baby weiners. [inaudible] up your ass. Butter your own biscuit, fat a**. That have told me that my parents deserved to die in a car accident because I am faking my condition.&#8221;
Cuomo chuckled and tried not to laugh throughout the course of the interview.

Ratings for the fourth Republican presidential debate held on Wednesday dropped to the lowest numbers so far this primary season with a 47% decrease in viewership from the previous debate. 
With the party’s frontrunner, former President Donald Trump, skipping each of the GOP debates, viewership has consistently fallen since the first Republican faceoff held on August 23 on Fox News, which attracted 12.8 million viewers. The second debate, held a month later on Fox Business, drew 9.5 million viewers, and the third debate on NBC was watched by 7.5 million people. The downward trend continued Wednesday night as 4.1 million people tuned into the most recent Republican debate on NewsNation, Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2023/12/07/41m-people-watch-fourth-republican-presidential-debate">reported</a>. 
While the debate marked the lowest ratings for this Republican primary cycle, it set a record for NewsNation, an outlet that debuted in 2021. NewsNation attracted 1.6 million people to its coverage of the debate, the largest audience in the network’s young history, <a href="https://www.nexstar.tv/newsnation-and-the-cw-network-deliver-more-than-4-million-viewers-for-gop-presidential-primary-debate/">according</a> to Nexstar Media Group, which owns NewsNation. Another 2.5 million people watched the debate on the CW’s simulcast, another subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group. 
“NewsNation was incredibly honored to host last night’s debate, and we are very pleased that so many viewers tuned-in and watched,” said Sean Compton, the president of Networks for Nexstar Media. “This debate represents a remarkable achievement for a cable news network that is just barely three years old. We’re very proud of the NewsNation team, the great job done by the moderators, and the overall production. In the end, the real winners last night were the nation’s voters.”
The NewsNation debate featured a narrowing field of Republican candidates, with only four candidates qualifying for the stage. Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, Washington Free Beacon Editor-in-Chief Eliana Johnson, and NewsNation anchor Elizabeth Vargas moderated the debate, which showcased Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. 
Wednesday’s debate ratings came up just shy of the debate last week between DeSantis and Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) that was moderated by Fox News host Sean Hannity, which garnered nearly <a href="https://deadline.com/2023/12/desantis-newsom-debate-ratings-fox-news-1235648926/">five million</a> viewers. The NewsNation debate did, however, beat out Hannity’s town hall with Trump that aired on Tuesday and attracted <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/fox-news-channels-hannity-trump-town-hall-scores-3-2-million-viewers">3.2 million</a> viewers.

Hours after the fourth GOP debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, had finished, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/07/politics/cnn-gop-presidential-primary-debates-2024/index.html?Date=20231207&amp;Profile=CNN&amp;utm_content=1701967085&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">announced</a> that it will host two more debates in January, one in Iowa on January 10 — five days before the Iowa caucuses, and another in New Hampshire on January 21, just two days before the New Hampshire primary.

NewsNation announced on Thursday morning that it will host the next Republican primary debate, scheduled for December 6 — and Sirius XM podcast host Megyn Kelly will be one of three moderators.
In addition to Kelly — who has previously moderated five GOP primary debates — NewsNation host and Peabody Award winner Elizabeth Vargas (&#8220;Elizabeth Vargas Reports&#8221;) and The Washington Free Beacon editor-in-chief Eliana Johnson will also moderate.
According to the announcement, the debate is set to air exclusively on NewsNation and The CW Network beginning at 8 p.m. ET, and an encore presentation will air at 7 p.m. MT and 8 p.m. PT for those in the western time zones. It will also be livestreamed on NewsNation&#8217;s website and Rumble.

According to a Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/republicans-stiffen-qualifying-requirements-fourth-debate-december-2023-11-03/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> published last week, the fourth debate requirements will set a higher entry bar for the candidates.
All candidates must receive at least 6% support in two national polls — or 6% in one national poll and 6% in one statewide poll in one of the key early voting states: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, or Nevada. In addition, they must have at least 80,000 donors — and have 200 or more donors from each of 20 states or territories.

Former ABC News executive producer Shelley Ross slammed a small cable news channel this week for hiring disgraced former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cnn">CNN</a> host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chris-cuomo">Chris Cuomo</a>, calling Cuomo the &#8220;same old arrogant, misogynistic proud member of the old boy&#8217;s club.&#8221;
Ross, who later became an executive producer at CBS News, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chris-cuomos-former-producer-accuses-him-of-sexual-harassment-lowering-one-hand-to-firmly-grab-and-squeeze-the-cheek-of-my-buttock">said</a> that at a going-away party in 2005, Cuomo approached her &#8220;and greeted me with a strong bear hug while lowering one hand to firmly grab and squeeze the cheek of my buttock.&#8221;
&#8220;&#8216;I can do this now that you’re no longer my boss,&#8217; he said to me with a kind of cocky arrogance,&#8221; Ross wrote in a New York Times op-ed. “‘No you can’t,&#8217; I said, pushing him off me at the chest while stepping back, revealing my husband, who had seen the entire episode at close range. We quickly left.&#8221;
Ross responded to a post online by NewsNation host Dan Abrams in which Abrams defended his network&#8217;s decision to hire Cuomo to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-disgraced-former-cnn-host-chris-cuomo-gets-hired-by-news-network">host</a> a new primetime show on the channel this fall.
&#8220;Dan, I&#8217;m a decades-long fan of yours,&#8221; Ross wrote. &#8220;But you&#8217;ve got this one wrong. The (modest) mixed reaction to Cuomo&#8217;s new job does not prove the status quo of the media is under threat. Cuomo IS the status quo, same old same old arrogant, misogynistic proud member of the old boy&#8217;s club. No one cares what News Nation [sic] ratings are. I am rooting for something new, fresh and honest. Just maybe some of us don&#8217;t see Cuomo as that answer &#8230; those who have been disappointed in his lack of genuine contrition. As he continues to parse his words, hide behind the love of a brother, deny wrongdoing, he remains tone-deaf and phony to many of us. I&#8217;m all for second chances. But I won&#8217;t believe he is a disrupter until he disrupts something and finds a greater cause than himself.&#8221;
The Washington Post <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-disgraced-former-cnn-host-chris-cuomo-gets-hired-by-news-network">reported</a> that the small cable news network wants to provide “down-the-middle, unbiased news reporting and analysis.” It’s unclear how Cuomo helps NewsNation reach its objective, considering that he was under investigation at CNN over his alleged role in trying to help his brother, then-New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo, navigate a sexual misconduct scandal that ultimately led to his resignation.
Chris Cuomo filed a $125 million lawsuit against CNN, demanding $15 million in lost salary and $110 million in further damages, after the network fired him following an investigation into him.
Debra S. Katz, a Left-wing attorney, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chris-cuomo-responds-to-sexual-misconduct-allegations-made-against-him">said</a> in a statement in December that she was representing a client who claimed that Chris Cuomo engaged in “serious sexual misconduct” against her at another network.
Katz said she notified CNN of the allegations and that the allegations are ultimately what led to Chris Cuomo being fired from CNN. Katz said in a statement that Cuomo demonstrated hypocrisy when he claimed he cared “very deeply” about the issue of sexual harassment only to be revealed in an investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James to have aided his brother’s efforts to smear his accusers.
“Hearing the hypocrisy of Chris Cuomo’s on-air words and disgusted by his efforts to try to discredit these women, my client retained counsel to report his serious sexual misconduct against her to CNN,” Katz said.

Disgraced former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cnn">CNN</a> host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chris-cuomo">Chris Cuomo</a> claimed during an interview that aired Friday night that CNN was not an opinion network, and he then proceeded to blame those who watch cable news for the toxicity of cable news.
Cuomo, 51, <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/07/30/chris-cuomo-says-he-lost-a-sense-of-purpose-after-cnn-firing/">told</a> Bill Maher on HBO&#8217;s &#8220;Real Time with Bill Maher&#8221; that he felt like he lost &#8220;a sense of purpose&#8221; after getting fired from CNN last year as the far-left network investigated his involvement in helping his brother, then-New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo, navigate a sexual misconduct scandal.
“This is my brother, obviously I’m not objective. Obviously, I’m going to help him,” Cuomo told Maher. “This has been hard, and you learn a lot about the people in your life when you watch them struggle. It’s true, when you struggle, you learn who your friends are. I’ve always known who my friends are; I’ve had them for a very long time. But he has been in a struggle, and I have watched it.”
Maher later brought up how CNN made a shift to being more opinion-based across the board during the Trump presidency, to which Cuomo responded by claiming that it was not &#8220;a move to opinion.&#8221;
&#8220;I think that is addressing the need of serving people&#8217;s interests,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We were faced with something that the media has never seen in this country before, where somebody weaponized the truth, and won pretty much every fight he got into, by ultimately blaming a system that people have rejected, including the media. And unprecedented risk is going to require an unprecedented effort. I don&#8217;t think it was about moving to opinion, meaning not relying on facts and analysis. But they had to take it on; I felt very much that way.&#8221;
Cuomo portrayed himself as some kind of a crusader for truth against the Trump administration, adding: &#8220;And it was rough. It is still rough for me to be seen as like an enemy of the former president, which is nonsense.&#8221;
During another point in the interview, Cuomo defended the nonsense that happens on cable news by blaming the viewers, saying, &#8220;You can&#8217;t expect the men and women in the media to not play a game that everybody else is playing.&#8221;
&#8220;You are watching because the game, you are allowing yourself to be put on teams or in tribes or any way you want to designate it,&#8221; Cuomo added. &#8220;But they&#8217;re supposed to somehow break away from that when it&#8217;s what you want? When it&#8217;s what resonates with you? No.&#8221;

“I’m going to do the job. I’m going to go where the news is, and I’m going to try very hard to be fair,” Cuomo claimed. “And I want to do it here. I want to make a difference. And I’m really hoping that it makes a difference for you [the viewer]. And I thank NewsNation very much for the opportunity.”

Disgraced television host Chris Cuomo has landed a job back in the cable news industry after being fired by CNN late last year.
Chris Cuomo will join NewsNation as a primetime host this fall with a new hour-long show, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2022/07/26/cuomo-newsnation/">The Washington Post</a>.
The report said that the small cable news network aims to provide &#8220;down-the-middle, unbiased news reporting and analysis.&#8221; It&#8217;s unclear how Cuomo helps NewsNation reach its objective considering that he was under investigation at CNN over his alleged role in trying to help his brother, then-New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo, navigate a sexual misconduct scandal that ultimately led to his resignation.

Chris Cuomo applied to be a volunteer firefighter with the East Hampton Fire Department after he was fired but was forced to pull his application because he determined after meeting with fire officials that he was not able to put in the time required for the position.
Sources told The Daily Beast reported that Chris Cuomo “balked” at the time commitment part of the job.
“It’s a very time-consuming thing. There are monthly meetings and drills and you have to meet a percentage of your calls,” EHFD Chief Duane Forrester said. “That’s why we don’t have many celebrities.”
