New York City has paid almost $100 million to rent empty preschool classrooms, according to a shocking new report.
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/20/us-news/empty-nyc-preschools-cost-taxpayers-nearly-100m-in-rent-alone/">reported</a> Monday that the city has paid $99.3 million over the last five years for rent and utilities on 28 buildings for preschool classrooms acquired through part of former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s “universal” preschool push. The spending on the empty classrooms has both former officials and NYC residents upset about the Big Apple’s latest use of taxpayer dollars.
“I don’t think it’s corruption. It’s incompetence,” a former city Department of Education official told the Post.
The official added that despite “such a significant need for pre-K seats,” many of the classrooms were empty because they were made available in areas without verifying demand. Meanwhile, other parts of the city have long wait lists for preschool seats.
The Post reported that de Blasio’s push for the“3-K For All” program, which provides full-day early childhood education for 3-year-olds, led to a mad dash for renting buildings that have yet to be used.
De Blasio blamed the empty classrooms on his successor, former Mayor Eric Adams, saying that “during my administration, we never had a problem filling Pre-K and 3-K seats because we did lots of parent-friendly outreach.”
“Sadly, the Adams administration ended those efforts and took a step backwards on early childhood education,” he told the Post.
For his part, Adams said that he “inherited a system with thousands of empty early childhood seats,” and he focused on “stabilizing providers and increasing enrollment, rather than simply expanding capacity.”
Seven of the vacant sites are expected to be opened up in the fall by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“New York City is continuing to invest in and strengthen early care and learning across the city, including expanding access to 3-K and improving access to Pre-K programs for families,&#8221; the New York Department of Education told The Daily Wire. &#8220;NYC Public Schools, in partnership with City Hall, is opening new Pre-K Centers and activating additional early childhood sites in communities where families need more access to programs closer to home.”
One of the empty sites is at Union Turnpike in Queens and has cost the city $10.8 million, according to the report.
“They realized [afterward that] it wasn’t a good location. … If they didn’t think the need was there, why did they pick the site in the first place?” the former Education Department official said.
Nearby business owner Larry Mottola told the Post that it was troubling that the government would waste money on unused buildings.
“They had beautiful classrooms, a stainless steel kitchen [and] there’s a beautiful playground around back,” he said. “It’s bothersome, [that] they would waste that kind of money for four years.”
Another parent said that it was frustrating that the government selected sites where there was no demand.
“It feels like a real misstep that we’re not even utilizing the space that’s being paid for,” said Jessica Setton. &#8220;De Blasio had good intention, terrible execution.&#8221;

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump backed his chief of staff on Tuesday amid heavy backlash, sharing in an interview that he&#8217;s not offended by Susie Wiles&#8217; remarks to Vanity Fair about his administration.
The president <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/12/16/us-news/trump-stands-by-chief-of-staff-susie-wiles-after-bombshell-vanity-fair-interviews-admits-he-has-alcoholics-personality/">spoke exclusively</a> with the New York Post&#8217;s Steven Nelson about a controversial Vanity Fair story on his administration, one which quoted Wiles saying that Trump has &#8220;an alcoholic’s personality.&#8221;
Vanity Fair’s story is written by Chris Whipple, who later elaborated that Wiles was comparing Trump’s aggression and strong personality to that of an alcoholic whose personality is “exaggerated when they drink. Wiles allegedly explained to Whipple that Trump, who is sober, “operates [with] a view that there’s nothing he can’t do. Nothing, zero, nothing.”
On Tuesday, Trump told the New York Post that he does have a &#8220;possessive personality&#8221; and emphasized how much he values Wiles.
“No, she meant that I’m — you see, I don’t drink alcohol,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;So everybody knows that — but I’ve often said that if I did, I’d have a very good chance of being an alcoholic. I have said that many times about myself, I do. It’s a very possessive personality.&#8221;
“I’ve said that many times about myself,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;I’m fortunate I’m not a drinker. If I did, I could very well, because I’ve said that — what’s the word? Not possessive — possessive and addictive type personality. Oh, I’ve said it many times, many times before.”
Wiles herself accused Vanity Fair of framing the piece in a dishonest manner.
“The article published early this morning is a disingenuously framed hit piece on me and the finest President, White House staff, and Cabinet in history,” Wiles <a href="https://x.com/SusieWiles/status/2000943061627548148">wrote</a> Tuesday. “Significant context was disregarded and much of what I, and others, said about the team and the President was left out of the story.”

“I assume, after reading it, that this was done to paint an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative about the President and our team,” Wiles added. “The truth is the Trump White House has already accomplished more in eleven months than any other President has accomplished in eight years and that is due to the unmatched leadership and vision of President Trump, for whom I have been honored to work for the better part of a decade. None of this will stop our relentless pursuit of Making America Great Again!”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and many other members of the Trump administration were quick to defend Wiles, issuing statements on &#8220;X&#8221; praising Wiles for her work in the second Trump administration.
“Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has helped President Trump achieve the most successful first 11 months in office of any President in American history,” Leavitt wrote. “President Trump has no greater or more loyal advisor than Susie. The entire Administration is grateful for her steady leadership and united fully behind her.”
Donald Trump Jr. similarly issued a lengthy statement of support, writing: &#8220;Susie Wiles is by far the most effective and trustworthy Chief of Staff that my father has ever had.&#8221;
Trump Jr. wrote that Wiles took over his father&#8217;s political operations after January 6, 2021, when most of the GOP was treating the president like a &#8220;pariah.&#8221;
&#8220;Countless operatives, consultants and elected Republicans thought my dad&#8217;s political career was over and wanted nothing to do with him,&#8221; he added.

President Donald Trump on Monday is expected to issue an executive order to suspend the security clearances for the 51 national security officials who claimed that the report about Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation.
Trump will sign the executive order as part of his Day One agenda, which is expected to include signing more than 200 executive actions, including ones that eliminated DEI from federal offices and defined biological sex, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-take-more-than-200-executive-actions-day-one.amp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
In mid-October 2020, just ahead of a debate between Trump and President Joe Biden, 51 intelligence officials, including former CIA Director John Brennan and ex-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, signed a letter claiming the recently discovered laptop belonging to Hunter Biden had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” The letter went public on October 19, 2020, shortly after the New York Post published <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/10/14/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a bombshell report</a> detailing the laptop showed evidence that the elder Biden was involved in his son’s shady business dealings.
At the debate, Trump mentioned the laptop and, because of the letter, Biden was able to say that “50 former national intelligence folks who said that what he’s accusing me of is a Russian plan.” Biden also added that “Four, five former heads of the CIA, both parties, say what he’s saying is a bunch of garbage.”
But the laptop has been deemed authentic, including during Hunter’s gun trial. The 51 former intelligence officers have refused to apologize or admit they were wrong.

Further, in 2023, emails revealed that former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell asked members of the intelligence community to add their names to the letter for the express purpose of giving Biden a talking point at the debate, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-cia-chief-sought-debate-talking-point-with-hunter-biden-laptop-letter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the time. Brennan was one of the people Morell reached out to, and responded by saying: “Ok, Michael, add my name to the list. Good initiative. Thanks for asking me to sign on.”
Morell also told congressional Republicans that a call from Biden’s then-campaign adviser, Antony Blinken, had prompted the letter. Morell also testified that the chair of the 2020 Biden campaign, Steve Richetti, called him after the debate to thank him for getting the letter out.
Morell told congressional Republicans that the letter had two intents. “One intent was to share our concern with the American people that the Russians were playing on this issue; and, two, it was [to] help Vice President Biden,” he explained, <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2023-04-20-jdj-mt-to-blinken-re-public-statement-on-hunter-biden-emails_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to a transcript</a> of his testimony.
Democrats accused Republicans of cherry-picking Morell’s testimony, claiming “no part of that interview demonstrates that Tony Blinken or any other Biden campaign official asked Mike Morell to write a letter about Hunter Biden’s laptop.”

A spokesperson for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/abc-news">ABC</a> has denied rumors that “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/the-view">The View</a>” is hunting for a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump">pro-Trump</a> panelist to help balance the one-sided views that have helped define the show.
“This report is not true,” publicity director Lauri Hogan told The Daily Wire in a statement. “‘The View’ is an opinion-based show featuring a diverse panel of women with different points of view – the current panel is clearly resonating with audiences given that the series just had its highest rated episode in more than a decade and hit a 4-year high in total viewers.”
The denial comes days after a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abc-rumored-to-be-seeking-pro-trump-panelist-for-the-view">report</a> from The New York Post featuring claims from an unnamed source that ABC execs were scrambling to add pro-Trump individuals to some content following the president-elect’s landslide victory over Democrat nominee Kamala Harris this month. One show mentioned in particular was “The View,” which currently includes six women known for their disdain of President-elect Trump.
“The View is facing pressure from higher-ups,” the source told The Post. “Viewers can expect some major changes including bringing in new panelists that can bring in a pro-Trump perspective.”

Conversations on “The View” are almost always dominated by far-Left viewpoints from co-hosts like Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines. Token Republican voices have been from anti-Trumpers, such as Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin.
Hostin <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-view-host-profoundly-disturbed-by-trump-win-blames-uneducated-white-women">blamed</a> “uneducated white voters” for Trump&#8217;s win on the first episode of “The View” following the election, claiming that racism had played a major role in the 2024 presidential campaign. She said she was “profoundly disturbed” over Kamala’s defeat.
Co-host Navarro agreed that racism and sexism drove the results. Meanwhile, Goldberg said that even though Trump had won, she’s not giving up her former vow never to utter his actual name.
“He’s now the president. I’m still not going to say his name. That’s not going to change,” she said. Goldberg also claimed, “Too many people that I know died trying to vote.”
ABC may have denied the rumors of adding a Trump-friendly panelist to &#8220;The View,&#8221; but if that changes, at least two Daily Wire podcast hosts have offered to join the show. The New York Post Editorial Board roasted Democratic presidential nominee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-yorker-magazine-goes-after-generic-kamala-harris">Kamala Harris</a> on Monday for attempting to hide her “true self” from voters and blasted the legacy media for gaslighting audiences about her record.
The front page <a href="https://x.com/nypost/status/1822947760598831449">read</a>, “Kama Kameleon: Flip-Flopping Harris Hides Her True Self From Voters.” The outlet went on to call out the so-called journalists who are “desperate to hide” Harris&#8217;s views because so many Americans are against them.
“Kamala Harris is being recast as a centrist Dem — but the radical truth is plain to see,” the headline from the Post Editorial Board says.
In the piece, the editorial board noted that a 2019 report by <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/07/25/us-news/govtrack-scrubbed-its-rating-that-had-kamala-harris-as-most-liberal-senator-in-2019-after-biden-dropped-out/">GovTrack rated Harris “the most liberal” </a>member of the Senate, but GovTrack has since scrubbed it. The report also noted that she was found to be the least likely senator to back bipartisan legislation.

The authors pointed to other flip-flops by Harris. But when it came to illegal immigration, the editorial board said Harris isn’t just flip-flopping but “straight up” lying. It accused the “border czar” of doing “nothing to either strengthen the border or tackle the ‘root causes.’&#8221; 
The editorial board concluded by asking if Harris really stands for anything. 
“Or is her only ambition to say and do whatever it takes to get elected, then let the left wing of the party run the nation?”

Former President Donald Trump acknowledged the miraculous nature of his brush with death on Saturday when a would-be assassin shot him in his right ear, narrowly missing his head, at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump noted that only the fact that he had turned his head slightly at the moment the shots were fired saved him from certain death.
“I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump told <a href="//14592C1D-8032-4C41-95BD-717492154773/v" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Post</a> aboard his private plane on Sunday on his way to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Calling the attempted assassination a “very surreal experience,” Trump said, “The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this. He called it a miracle.”
Trump said he wanted to continue speaking after he was shot, but Secret Service agents hustled him off the stage, reminding him his safety was at stake and that he needed to go to a hospital.
Praising the Secret Service agents who tackled him as “linebackers,” he explained why, after they got him to his feet, he had insisted, “Wait, I want to get my shoes.”
“The agents hit me so hard that my shoes fell off, and my shoes are tight,” he said, smiling.
He continued by praising the counter-sniper who killed the would-be assassin: “They took him out with one shot right between the eyes. They did a fantastic job. &#8230; It’s surreal for all of us.”
“I just wanted to keep speaking, but I just got shot,” he asserted.
Pennsylvania GOP senatorial candidate David McCormick, who was seated in the front row behind Trump when the attack occurred, <a href="//14592C1D-8032-4C41-95BD-717492154773/v" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acknowledged</a>, “It was pretty clear quickly that this was a series of shots. And the president went down immediately and the Secret Service jumped on top of him. He really reassured people that he was okay. &#8230;  An inch difference and the president would have been dead. It was a very scary moment.”

Hunter Biden&#8217;s father, Joe Biden, was in the midst of running against then-President Donald Trump when the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/10/14/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">began reporting</a> on details of the younger Biden&#8217;s shady business dealings and personal life contained in the copy of a hard drive.
The letter suggested the timing of the laptop story&#8217;s emergence had &#8220;all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.&#8221; POLITICO, which obtained the letter, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/19/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> a headline in 2020 saying the intel veterans were claiming the laptop story was &#8220;Russian disinfo.&#8221;
Many of the contents of the laptop and hard drive have been <a class="c-link c-link--focus-visible" href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/03/30/hunter-biden-laptop-data-examined/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-stringify-link="https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/03/30/hunter-biden-laptop-data-examined/" data-sk="tooltip_parent" data-remove-tab-index="true">analyzed and shown to be authentic</a> over the past few years, but during a debate in the final stretch of the 2020 election cycle, Joe Biden was able to <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/house-gop-demand-records-from-ex-intel-officials-about-hunter-biden-laptop-letter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cite</a> the letter to cast doubt on the Post&#8217;s reporting.
A new <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2024-06-25%20The%20Intelligence%20Community%2051%20-%20How%20CIA%20Contractors%20Colluded%20with%20the%20Biden%20Campaign%20to%20Mislead%20American%20Voters.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees, along with the Weaponization panel, said emails showed that at least some of the letter&#8217;s signatories were on &#8220;active contract&#8221; with the CIA during its drafting, review, and publication. A CIA employee&#8217;s internal email in response to the letter said, &#8220;This frustrates me. I don&#8217;t think it is helpful to the Agency in the long run.&#8221; Another said, &#8220;I also love that at least a few of the random signatories belong to individuals currently working.&#8221;
The report said the investigating committees requested the identities of all the CIA contractors on the letter, but the agency has not &#8220;declassified the complete list of individuals &#8230; due to purported operational security&#8221; beyond disclosing Morell and Buckley.
A chart shows that three—including ex-CIA Director John Brennan, former CIA official Marc Polymeropoulos, and former National Counterterrorism Center Director Nick Rasmussen—were not contracted with the CIA on October 19, the date of the letter.
Congressional Republicans previously revealed that Morell <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2023-04-20-jdj-mt-to-blinken-re-public-statement-on-hunter-biden-emails_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said &#8220;yes&#8221;</a> when asked if a call around mid-October 2020 from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/antony-blinken" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Antony Blinken</a>, an adviser to Joe Biden&#8217;s campaign who now serves as secretary of state, triggered a series of events that led to the letter.
Blinken <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/blinken-denies-asking-for-hunter-biden-laptop-letter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied soliciting the letter</a>, but emails show Morell asked fellow intelligence veterans to add their names to it with a stated purpose of giving Biden&#8217;s campaign a debate &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-cia-chief-sought-debate-talking-point-with-hunter-biden-laptop-letter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">talking point</a>.&#8221; Another top Biden campaign official later <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/media/press-releases/new-testimony-reveals-secretary-blinken-and-biden-campaign-behind-infamous#:~:text=Morell%20testified%20that%20his%20communication,him%20for%20writing%20the%20statement." target="_blank" rel="noopener">thanked</a> him.
The new report noted Morell acknowledged it is &#8220;inappropriate for a currently serving staff officer or contractor to be involved in the political process,&#8221; though Hatch Act political restrictions do not apply to them in the same way they do to CIA employees.
&#8220;Such an overtly political action would be illegal under the Hatch Act for a permanent CIA employee. Congress ought to consider whether to extend this important prohibition to CIA contractors as well,&#8221; the report from the GOP-led House panels added.
Also mentioned in the report is how the CIA&#8217;s Prepublication Classification Review Board (PCRB) received a draft of the letter because former senior intelligence officials had signed it, and a top officer said he informed the top brass that it would be published soon.

While the report asserts senior CIA leadership had an opportunity at that time to &#8220;slow down the CIA’s process for reviewing publication submissions&#8221; and &#8220;ensure that such an extraordinary statement was properly vetted,&#8221; the agency defended its work.
A process in which CIA officers are required to &#8220;sign a secrecy agreement that includes a lifelong obligation to submit any and all intelligence-related materials&#8221; to the PCRB before they are published was followed, a CIA spokeswoman told the New York Post.
Confirmation by the PCRB that &#8220;information is unclassified is never an endorsement of the reviewed content or its veracity,&#8221; the CIA spokeswoman added. &#8220;These former officers were not speaking for CIA.&#8221;

Singer and actress Barbra Streisand found herself at the mercy of a phenomenon named after her — The Streisand Effect — when she attempted to drive people away from The New York Post on Monday, prompting the exact opposite response.
It all began with a post on X in which the singer implored her hundreds of thousands of followers to ignore reporting from The Post because it included negative stories about President Joe Biden.

But then she fell victim to The Streisand Effect — which, as described by Grok, states that the amount of attention a thing gets is inversely proportional to the amount of attention you want it to get.

Former Director of National Intelligence <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/james-clapper" target="_blank" rel="noopener">James Clapper</a> had a short reply when he was asked by Fox News if he regrets signing the intelligence officials’ letter in 2020 that labeled the Hunter Biden laptop story as Russian disinformation.
Clapper, along with 50 other former senior intelligence officials, signed the letter in October 2020 — just weeks before the presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden — saying <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/10/14/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the New York Post story</a> that exposed emails from Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell” had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”
Since that letter, Hunter Biden’s laptop has been confirmed as authentic by multiple media outlets and the Department of Justice. The laptop was also confirmed as real during Hunter’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hunter-biden-gun-trial-confirms-laptop-was-real-all-along">ongoing gun trial</a> earlier this week when the prosecution shared images from the laptop and Hunter’s iCloud account that showed him nude and holding crack pipes.
When Clapper was asked if he regretted adding his name to the intelligence officials’ letter, he simply replied, “No,” Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/former-obama-official-one-word-answer-asked-retract-attack-hunter-biden-laptop">reported</a>. He also refused to publicly remove his name from the letter.
Hunter’s laptop contained evidence that the first son introduced the commander-in-chief to a Ukrainian businessman less than a year before then-Vice President Joe Biden pressured Ukrainian government officials to fire a prosecutor investigating the businessman’s company. Hunter had been hired to the board of a Ukrainian energy firm a year before Joe Biden’s meeting with the Ukrainian businessman.
Clapper, and dozens of other former intelligence officials, wrote of the Hunter Biden laptop story, “If we are right, this is Russia trying to influence how Americans vote in this election, and we believe strongly that Americans need to be aware of this.”
The letter was covered in a report by <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/19/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276">POLITICO</a> that was published on October 19, 2020, and Biden referred to the letter in a debate with Trump three days later when Hunter’s laptop and foreign business dealings were brought up. Biden went on to win the 2020 election just two weeks later, but it would be another three years before the “Russian disinformation” claims put forth by the former intelligence officials were debunked by the DOJ.

Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings — along with his father’s alleged involvement in them when he was vice president — have been the center of a months-long impeachment inquiry led by House Republicans.
Earlier this week, House Republicans <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hunter-and-james-biden-referred-by-congress-for-criminal-prosecution-over-provably-false-statements">referred</a> Hunter Biden and the president’s brother, James Biden, for criminal prosecution for allegedly lying while testifying as part of the corruption-focused impeachment inquiry into the president.

I consider myself a relatively happy person, and I love and am grateful for my life. I believe gratefulness influences happiness, so I make practicing gratitude a habit. Conversely, people who live in a constant victimhood mentality (one that seems to be overtaking our culture) are, without a doubt, not happy. While we don’t need science to prove to us these people are unhappy, science just did. 
In a poorly typed tweet, the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/03/17/lifestyle/woke-people-more-likely-to-be-unahppy-anxious-and-depressed-new-study-suggests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a> shared the results of a study which suggests “woke” people are more likely to be unhappy. Of course, we didn’t need those results to be “suggested” because we know they’re true.

The study was conducted in Finland where researchers examined the progressive ideology that has now infiltrated their culture. First, they created a social justice scale with a list of truisms, or principles of progressivism, to ask participants of the study whether they agreed or disagreed with those statements. Then, they compared the results with other behaviors based on the responses to those statements. The study’s final Critical Social Justice Attitude scale included <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/03/17/lifestyle/woke-people-more-likely-to-be-unahppy-anxious-and-depressed-new-study-suggests/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_source=twitter">seven truisms</a> of woke people:

For the people who agreed with these principles, identifying them as the things they are concerned with on a daily basis, it is no wonder they’re unhappy. The <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/03/17/lifestyle/woke-people-more-likely-to-be-unahppy-anxious-and-depressed-new-study-suggests/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_source=twitter">conclusion researchers drew</a> is the same conclusion we all could have told them without even doing this study:

Specifically, researchers found a high prevalence of anxiety and depression in people who believe the statement “If white people have on average a higher income than black people, it is because of racism.” More broadly, they found that those who identified as left-wing were most likely to report lower mental well-being.</blockquote>
That’s correct: “They found that those who identified as left-wing were most likely to report lower mental well-being.” Color me shocked.
Although researchers noted that we should not assume this is the case in every society and country, we know that it basically is. Finland can take these results and expand them to other countries because this is truth — and it’s certainly not isolated to Finland. Columbia epidemiologists have acknowledged depression rates <a href="https://magazine.columbia.edu/article/why-depression-rates-are-higher-among-liberals#:~:text=American%20adults%20who%20identify%20as,inducing%20topics%20like%20racial%20injustice%2C" target="_blank" rel="noopener">are higher among liberals</a>; American Affairs, a journal of public policy and political thought, has evaluated the <a href="https://americanaffairsjournal.org/2023/03/how-to-understand-the-well-being-gap-between-liberals-and-conservatives/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“well-being gap”</a> between liberals and conservatives; and the New York Times has analyzed <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/09/opinion/progressive-sadness.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sadness among progressives</a> and its self-destructive effects. This is not new information.

Evidence for why the Left’s mental well-being is lower is evident on television, in the news, or on social media: The Left constantly eats their own. They are friendly with you — until they aren’t. You can be the champion of all their current stances and you can wave all the flags, but if you ask one wrong question or so much as step a little bit out of line, they will rip you to shreds. They will cancel you, insult you, and kick you right out of their group, which is the definition of a toxic relationship and an unhealthy environment.
The Left also promulgates a victim-centric attitude, an attitude that leads to mental illness. Psychologists have studied that fact for years, yet that exact attitude has utterly taken hold of our society. The replies to <a href="https://twitter.com/nypost/status/1769483261728657609">the Post’s tweet</a> brought up these points over and over.

Meanwhile, the people who quote tweeted told a completely different story than those who replied. They seemed to want out of the comment section to tell their own story without anyone around to disagree with them. For example, one person said that the list of progressive truisms “are also correlated with higher intelligence,” meaning that people who agree with them have a better “understanding of how society and the world works.”

In actuality, science is split on that. On the one hand, numerous reports have been published explaining that intelligent people are miserable and unhappy because of the unbearable weight of the world; on the other, countless reports explain that intelligent people are actually incredibly happy for a myriad of reasons, usually due to their worldview, attitudes, and what they believe in terms of happiness and fulfillment. How an individual chooses to live their life has a great impact on those outcomes.
Another quote tweet said that those who are “aware of the problems” are the ones who will be upset about them.

To be clear, conservatives are not unaware of the problems that exist in our society. We aren’t walking around in ignorant bliss and therefore not upset. Listen to any Republican or conservative give a speech and you’ll hear a Right-winger ragging on about some problem or other. (When this happens, the Left critiques us, saying we are just trying to pull society backwards by disliking everything in the modern world — which is obviously not the case.)
No, it is not that conservatives have not identified problems; rather, conservatives see different problems. We do not find problems for the sake of having a pity party and an opportunity to complain — something which, by and large, is what many people on the Left resort to. Rolling around in self-pity and complaining just to complain create feelings of powerlessness and anger, leaving them spinning in a cycle of victimhood.
People on the Right, however, are realists. I would argue that we are solution-oriented, an attribute critical to happiness. Conservatives and psychologists alike agree on this. We have hope, we’re positive, and we genuinely want conditions to improve. I genuinely care about everybody in this country, and I want them to thrive and be successful, not be dragged down by their own attitude about the world. I hope that for everyone because it benefits our society as a whole.
In an article published in the National Post titled, “<a href="https://nationalpost.com/opinion/gad-saad-of-course-conservatives-are-happier-they-believe-society-is-worth-it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Of Course Conservatives Are Happier — They Believe Society Is Worth It</a>,” well-known Canadian psychologist and professor Gad Saad explains this phenomenon, saying: 
<blockquote>By definition, conservatives believe that there are values, beliefs, attitudes and ideas worth conserving. Hence, they wake up every morning with a sense of existential glee; they recognize that their society, whilst far from perfect, contains many tried and tested ideas worth preserving. Liberals and progressives on the other hand wake up with a dark cloud of existential doom because their society is apparently racist, sexist, transphobic, Islamophobic and ableist. Canada supposedly sits on stolen land. Capitalism is an exploitative system that rapes Mother Earth. We have less than 15 minutes to go because of the existential crisis associated with climate change. Hence, from the perspective of the Noble Progressive, we must dismantle the current system and fight for Unicornia, which lies just around the corner. How could one be happy when there is so much ugliness in the world?</blockquote>
Saad’s contrast of conservatives and progressives is succinct, yet impactful. Conservatives have a hopeful and positive reason to wake up in the morning — and that changes everything. We have goals. We believe in the best of society and the best of what it can be. We have values outside our political ideology, which the Left often does not, and it is those values, like faith and family, that propel us forward and fulfill us. Saad’s acknowledgment that we “believe that there are values, beliefs, attitudes and ideas worth conserving” is accurate, in that we have solid, tried and true values that have stood the test of time. They are far more stable than the values of the Left, which change daily based on their emotions or the current trend. The fact that we have a strong foundation to stand on — that we know what we’re fighting for, that we know what works — speaks volumes.
Perhaps most importantly, we understand and accept personal responsibility, which is something many on the Left lack. We know we are responsible for our own happiness, for our outlook, and for our response to the world around us. We are responsible for our values and the circle of people we surround ourselves with. This is all intertwined with happiness. And while conquering and owning personal responsibility is difficult, it is also incredibly empowering.
Ultimately, that is why we are happier.

Ousted CNN anchor Don Lemon had a tentative deal to host a new show on Elon Musk&#8217;s X platform — but according to a recent report, the whole thing might have fallen apart over Lemon&#8217;s &#8220;diva demands.&#8221;
The New York Post reported that, among other things, Lemon had <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/03/15/media/don-lemon-demanded-tesla-cybertruck-5m-advance-equity-in-x-before-elon-musk-canned-him-sources/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">demanded some control</a> over other news content that might make its way onto the platform — and had aspirations of hosting the &#8220;first podcast in space.&#8221;
The alleged list of demands, according to The Post, included &#8220;a free Tesla Cybertruck, a $5 million upfront payment on top of an $8 million salary, an equity stake in the multibillion-dollar company, and the right to approve any changes in X policy as it relates to news content.&#8221;
Lemon also reportedly wanted to helm the &#8220;<a href="https://nypost.com/2024/03/19/media/don-lemon-wanted-seat-aboard-elon-musks-rocket-to-do-first-podcast-in-space-sources/?_gl=1*1scr8yc*_ga*MTkzMTkwODE1Ni4xNjY3OTUyODk2*_ga_0DZ7LHF5PZ*MTcxMTAzOTc3NS40Ny4wLjE3MTEwMzk3ODIuMC4wLjA.&amp;_ga=2.127897869.1676480561.1711035583-1931908156.1667952896" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first podcast in space</a>,&#8221; suggesting that Musk use SpaceX to make that happen.
Lemon had also set up an interview with Musk — which was initially set to air as his debut episode — and had reportedly attached another list of demands to their planned meeting in Las Vegas. Among those were a suite, drinks, and massages for Lemon and his fiancé — and a private jet flight on X&#8217;s dime.
Despite knowing about the demands at the time of their interview, Musk agreed to do it anyway — but cut ties with Lemon afterward, calling him &#8220;underwhelming.&#8221;

In the days since, Lemon has blown off claims that he had asked for such things – but he didn&#8217;t deny them outright.
&#8220;That is nonsense. People negotiate all the time, but that’s, come on,&#8221; Lemon told <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/podcasts/it-wasnt-a-gotcha-interview-don-lemon-on-elon-musk-and-the-shocking-meltdown-of-his-deal-with-x/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mediaite&#8217;s</a> Aidan McLaughlin. &#8220;It’s obviously a deflection. Because it has nothing to do with the interview, and I’m not going to fall into that. I don’t read the New York Post, but I do love their horoscopes. It’s great. The New York Post Editorial Board published a piece Thursday laying into a recently-introduced bill that they argued would turn <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/canada" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canada</a> into an Orwellian nightmare.
The bill in question (Bill C-63), referred to as the Online Harms Act, was first introduced by Justice Minister Arif Virani in February — and would <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/03/14/world-news/canadian-law-endorsed-by-trudeau-could-imprison-people-for-speech-crimes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">empower the government</a> to place citizens on house arrest if social media posts provide &#8220;reasonable grounds&#8221; for officials to believe that someone &#8220;will commit&#8221; a crime.
&#8220;No, Canada!&#8221; the Post&#8217;s Editorial Board wrote in response. &#8220;The country that brought you debanking protesters and government-assisted suicide for the poor now wants to criminalize speech to lock up people for life and to put wrongthinkers under house arrest if the state sees a chance they will commit a crime. Doesn’t get more Orwellian than that.&#8221;
Minister Virani claimed that the bill was all about safety on the internet, something that he said hit close to home because he had children himself — and suggested that it would be no different than forcing toy manufacturers to abide by certain product safety regulations.
Another provision in the bill addresses &#8220;advocating for genocide&#8221; and increases the penalty for that particular infraction from five years to life in prison — and the Post noted an inherent risk in that provision as well.
&#8220;We’re sure a law that criminalizes &#8216;advocating for genocide&#8217; could never be twisted to criminalize support for Israel,&#8221; they wrote. &#8220;The pro-Hamas left will have a field day.&#8221;
The penalties for social media companies would be steep as well if they dared to refuse cooperation if the bill becomes law: fines could be upwards of a staggering 6% of global revenue.
&#8220;Handmaid&#8217;s Tale&#8221; author Margaret Atwood pointed out the dystopian future the bill was likely to help facilitate, saying via X, &#8220;If this account of the bill is true, it’s Lettres de Cachet all over again. The possibilities for revenge false accusations + thoughtcrime stuff are sooo inviting! Trudeau’s Orwellian online harms bill.&#8221;
