Neil Young is facing criticism for a new song he wrote about “fascists” buying Teslas.
The 79-year-old singer-songwriter debuted the song, reportedly titled “Let’s Roll Again,” at the Light Up the Blue charity concert in Los Angeles over the weekend. 
“If you’re a fascist, get a Tesla / It’s electric, it doesn’t matter / If you’re a Democrat, taste your freedom / Get whatever you want, taste your freedom,&#8221; Young could be heard singing in clips circulating on social media. 
“Come on Ford, come on GM / Come on Chrysler, let&#8217;s roll again,&#8221; the song continued. &#8220;Build something special that people need / Build us a safe way for us to meet / Build something that won&#8217;t kill our kids / Runs real clean.&#8221;
“Come on America, let’s get in the race / China’s way ahead, they’re making clean cars,” Young sang.

Responses on social media have been full of mockery.
“Neil Young waddling up to a mic like a deranged scarecrow, screeching out his geriatric fever dream of a protest song, is peak washed-up hippie cringe,” one X user <a href="https://x.com/SchoenPhotog/status/1917622372800290880">wrote</a>. &#8220;Neil, you sound like a college freshman who just discovered Reddit and thinks quoting China makes them deep… Time to unplug his amp and his internet, he’s gone full granola lunatic.”
“Imagine 25-year-old Neil Young seeing what a boorish square he would become,” another person <a href="https://x.com/NolteNC/status/1917669704660910416">agreed</a>.
“Another washed up slob,” political commentator Mark Levin <a href="https://x.com/marklevinshow/status/1917759301646504311">said</a>.
The new song comes as Elon Musk’s car company <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-significantly-cut-back-doge-time?author=Daniel+Chaitin&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Elon+To+%E2%80%98Significantly%E2%80%99+Cut+Back+On+DOGE+Time">reported</a> a 71% earnings drop over the past three months when compared to the first quarter of last year. This decline was driven in part by frequent protests over Musk working with President Donald Trump on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative.
Recently, Young said he was afraid Trump wouldn’t allow him back into the country after his upcoming European tour.
“When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket,” he wrote on his <a href="https://neilyoungarchives.com/news/3">website</a>. “That is happening all the time now. Countries have new advice for those returning to America.”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/get-out-of-that-place-before-it-eats-up-your-soul-neil-young-attacks-spotify-for-standing-by-rogan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Neil Young</a> announced his music is back on Spotify after the singer had issued an ultimatum to the music streaming platform in 2022 to pull Joe Rogan from its site or lose him.
In a statement on his <a href="https://neilyoungarchives.com/news/1/article?id=MY%20RETURN%20TO%20LOW%20RES%20SPOTIFY">website</a> on Wednesday, the 78-year-old rocker didn&#8217;t directly address his previous threat that &#8220;they can have Rogan or Young. Not both,&#8221; which came after &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience&#8221; podcast host&#8217;s alleged &#8220;misinformation&#8221; about the COVID vaccine on his show, The Hollywood Reporter <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/neil-young-returning-spotify-joe-rogan-boycott-1235851163/">reported</a>.
Instead, the veteran rocker labeled Spotify &#8220;low-res,&#8221; stating it&#8217;s the site &#8220;where you get less quality than we made&#8221; and wrote that he was returning because other major streaming services will now distribute Rogan&#8217;s podcasts and he can&#8217;t pull his music from all those platforms.
&#8220;My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I opposed at SPOTIFY,&#8221; Young wrote without naming the podcast.

&#8220;I cannot just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did with Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all,&#8221; he added. &#8220;So I have returned to Spotify, in sincere hopes that Spotify sound quality will improve and people will be able to hear and feel all the music as we made it.&#8221;
&#8220;Hopefully Spotify will turn to Hi Res as the answer and serve all the music to everyone,&#8221; the rocker continued. &#8220;Spotify, you can do it! Really be #1 in all ways. You have the music and the listeners!!!! Start with a limited Hi res tier and build from there!&#8221;
In January 2022, Young issued an ultimatum to Spotify that he would pull his entire music catalog until they cut ties with Rogan, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/they-can-have-rogan-or-young-not-both-neil-young-issues-spotify-an-ultimatum-threatens-pulling-his-music">reported</a>.

At the time, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/just-in-spotify-to-pull-neil-young-music-after-ultimatum-letter-demanding-rogan-be-removed">Spotify</a> issued a <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/neil-young-returning-spotify-joe-rogan-boycott-1235851163/">statement</a> that, &#8220;we have detailed content policies in place and we&#8217;ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to COVID since the start of the pandemic.&#8221;
&#8220;We regret Neil&#8217;s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon,&#8221; it added.

Hollywood’s love affair with free speech ended some time after Donald Trump took the oath of office.
Slowly but surely the industry pulled back on the issue it once clung to like a statue on Oscar night. Industry players pled allegiance to the woke state, canceled problematic art (and each other), and demanded that a sitting president get bounced from social media.
Late night comics even chuckled as <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/dr-seuss-stephen-colbert-late-show-racist-b1811462.html">beloved authors like Dr. Seuss</a> got the cultural boot.
It wasn’t always this way.
Hollywood once championed free speech on a variety of platforms. The industry understood the vital role speech plays in both the country at large and for their craft. Let’s look back at five times Hollywood embraced free speech and hope Tinsel Town comes to its senses and renews its love affair with free expression.
<h4>“The American President”</h4>
The 1995 rom com imagined a single U.S. leader falling in love with a lobbyist (Annette Bening). That novel twist combined with the impressive pairing of director Rob Reiner (“This Is Spinal Tap”) and writer Aaron Sorkin (“A Few Good Men”) earned raves from critics.
The film’s emotional finale used free speech as <a href="https://www.americanrhetoric.com/MovieSpeeches/moviespeechtheamericanpresident.html">a cudgel against the protagonist’s political opponent.</a>
<blockquote>&#8220;For the record, yes, I am a card-carrying member of the ACLU, but the more important question is &#8220;Why aren&#8217;t you, Bob?&#8221;
…America isn&#8217;t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You&#8217;ve gotta want it bad, &#8217;cause it&#8217;s gonna put up a fight. It&#8217;s gonna say, You want free speech? Let&#8217;s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who&#8217;s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.&#8221; </blockquote>
Reiner and Sorkin were, and remain, two of Hollywood’s most outspoken liberals. Would they pool their talents for a message like that today? That’s rhetorical, since Reiner was one of many <a href="https://twitter.com/robreiner/status/1400875366047043585?lang=bg">cheering President Donald Trump’s social media banishment.</a>
Guess we won’t be seeing &#8220;The American President 2” anytime soon.
<h4>Neil Young&#8217;s 2006 “Freedom of Speech” Tour</h4>
It’s an understatement to say that veteran rocker Neil Young was <a href="https://genius.com/3351240">no fan</a> of President George W. Bush during the Iraq War days And he had plenty of A-list company. Young similarly rebelled against efforts to silence the president’s critics during a time of war.
Toward that end, <a href="https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2022/02/02/crosby-stills-nash-young-csny-spotify-boycott-joe-rogan">Young rejoined</a> David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash to promote free speech and <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/flashback-neil-young-participated-freedom-of-speech-tour-censorship-joe-rogan">reaffirm his right to protest as he saw fit</a>.
<blockquote>&#8220;Those who feel the way we do had some hope and those who don’t feel the way we do were angry that the change happened. And those people have got a voice, and they have a reason for feeling the way they do. They strongly believe in the convictions. They believe in the military … they believe that we’re doing the right thing for the world, and they have every reason to be respected for their beliefs.”</blockquote>
Flash forward to 2022 and Young is leading an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/just-in-spotify-to-pull-neil-young-music-after-ultimatum-letter-demanding-rogan-be-removed">unsuccessful charge to silence</a> Spotify superstar Joe Rogan for sharing pandemic information that didn’t mirror government-approved narratives.
<h4>Tim Robbins versus Dubya</h4>
Young wasn’t the only liberal rallying for free speech during that era. Actor Tim Robbins similarly <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/Tim-Robbins-pours-his-anger-into-an-anti-war-play-2510013.php">protested</a> Bush’s war efforts, a move that <a href="http://www.espn.com/mlb/news/2003/0409/1536711.html">cost</a> him an appearance at a “Bull Durham” reunion.
The 1988 baseball romance cast Robbins as “Nuke” LaLoosh, a flame-throwing pitcher struggling to get his mental approach in line with his talents. His anti-war comments, along with those of his co-star Susan Sarandon (Robbins’ partner at the time), convinced the Baseball Hall of Fame to <a href="https://ew.com/article/2003/04/10/cooperstown-disinvites-antiwar-sarandon-robbins/">disinvite the duo from its 15th anniversary celebration</a> for the film.
Robbins teamed up with the ACLU, an organization which once stood proudly on behalf of free speech rights, to <a href="https://www.nyclu.org/en/letter-baseball-hall-fame-over-cancellation-bull-durham-movie-anniversary-celebration">blast the decision</a>. The move “reflects a disregard for the value of dissent in a free society. Indeed, you offer a vision of free speech that is deeply incompatible with the concept of ‘uninhibited, robust and wide open’ debate – a concept that is basic to our democracy.”
<h4>Comedy Post 9/11</h4>
Comedians played an important role in the days and weeks after the September 11 attacks. “Saturday Night Live” and “The Late Show with David Letterman” gently <a href="https://www.today.com/popculture/how-late-night-tv-reacted-9-11-impact-it-has-t229754">brought humor back </a>into our lives after the shocking terrorist attacks. They made it acceptable to laugh again after so much heartache and pain.
Other comics didn’t tread so carefully. They pushed comedy conventions much harder, understanding that free speech doesn’t evaporate in times of extreme duress. Hollywood even made a documentary on the subject – “Too Soon: Comedy After 9/11.” Comedians from that era shared how they processed their grief and rage, and why they didn’t pull punches when it came to material intersecting with the tragedy.
They were right.
The extreme irony? Some of the comedians featured in the documentary are now part of the current cancel culture brigade <a href="https://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/episode-1278-canceled-comedy-w-kliph-nesteroff-and-david-bianculli">(Marc Maron</a>) or pretend cancel culture  doesn’t exist (<a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/jon-stewart-cancel-culture-myth/">Jon Stewart</a>).
<h4>“The People vs. Larry Flynt”</h4>
The 1996 drama from legendary director Milos Forman celebrated the rise, fall, and legal victory of Hustler pornographer Larry Flynt.
The New York Times called it Forman’s “<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1996/12/22/movies/a-free-speech-hero-it-s-not-that-simple.html">raucous hymn to the First Amendment</a>.”
<blockquote>The movie, shown to acclaim at the New York Film Festival this fall and opening in theaters on Friday, has been critically embraced not only as an artistic tour de force but as a kind of democratic morality play.</blockquote>
Flynt was the perfect symbol for free speech. He was rude, crude and outrageous, and few would embrace his lifestyle choices. Yet defending speech one agrees with is always easy. Rushing to Flynt’s side, given his vulgar behavior, is another matter.

Crosby, Stills &amp; Nash have ended the protest they began against <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/just-in-spotify-to-pull-neil-young-music-after-ultimatum-letter-demanding-rogan-be-removed">Spotify</a> five months ago over the streaming service’s deal with podcast king <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-rogan">Joe Rogan</a>.
The aging harmony rockers’ music returned to Spotify July 2, <a href="https://www.billboard.com/business/streaming/crosby-stills-nash-spotify-return-1235110284/">according to Billboard</a>. They had pulled their catalog in solidarity with erstwhile member Neil Young, who was upset at Rogan’s penchant for interviewing guests with different points of view on COVID.
“They can have Rogan or Young. Not both,” Young wrote in a letter to his record company’s parent, Warner Records.
That prompted Crosby, Stills and Nash, who recorded albums as a trio and also with Young as a fourth member, to join the effort.

“We support Neil and we agree with him that there is dangerous disinformation being aired on Spotify’s Joe Rogan podcast,” the trio said in February. “While we always value alternate points of view, knowingly spreading disinformation during this global pandemic has deadly consequences. Until real action is taken to show that a concern for humanity must be balanced with commerce, we don’t want our music — or the music we made together — to be on the same platform.”
But Rogan’s still on Spotify, and now mouldering Crosby, Stills and Nash hits like “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” “Our House” and “Teach Your Children” are back, too. A source told Billboard the band will donate proceeds from streams of its music to COVID charities for at least a month.
Young’s solo music remains off the Swedish company’s streaming service.
Rogan signed a $200 million deal with Spotify in 2020 and is the platform’s biggest star with 11 million listeners regularly tuning in to his podcasts.
“I’m very sorry that they feel that way. I most certainly don’t want that. I’m a Neil Young fan. I’ve always been a Neil Young fan,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-rogan-responds-to-neil-young-sings-his-music-im-a-huge-neil-young-fan">Rogan said in late January</a>.
Crosby, Stills and Nash sold over 20 million albums and toured together until 2015.
Stephen Stills, widely considered to be the most talented of the trio, is 77 and still tours. Graham Nash, 80, and the only British-born member of the group, has long been outspoken on a host of liberal causes. David Crosby, also 80, served time in prison of drug and weapons convictions in the 1980s. He had a liver transplant in the 1990s that fellow musician Phil Collins paid for and was the sperm donor for two children Melissa Etheridge had with her ex-lesbian lover, Julie Cypher.

Aging Rockers Quietly Crawl Back To Spotify After Short-Lived Joe Rogan Protest

Musician Neil Young, who heated the movement to cancel podcast host Joe Rogan by removing his music from Spotify to protest what he called “the spread of misinformation,” turned on Spotify&#8217;s CEO Daniel Ek after Ek refused to remove Rogan from the streaming platform. Young <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/neil-young-tells-spotify-employees-to-leave-before-company-eats-up-your-soul">wrote</a> on his website, “To the workers at SPOTIFY, I say Daniel Ek is your big problem—not Joe Rogan. Ek pulls the strings. Get out of that place before it eats up your soul. The only goals stated by EK are about numbers—not art, not creativity.&#8221;
In late January, Young <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/they-can-have-rogan-or-young-not-both-neil-young-issues-spotify-an-ultimatum-threatens-pulling-his-music/">wrote a letter</a> to his management team and record label in which he stated, “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule. &#8230; I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. They can have Rogan or Young. Not both. &#8230; With an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, JRE, which is hosted exclusively on Spotify, is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence. Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy.”
A Spotify spokesman responded, “We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators. &#8230; We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon,” <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/neil-youngs-music-is-being-taken-down-by-spotify-after-ultimatum-over-joe-rogan-11643230104">The Wall Street Journal</a> reported.
After backlash from leftists mushroomed, Ek <a href="https://newsroom.spotify.com/2022-01-30/spotifys-platform-rules-and-approach-to-covid-19/">stated</a> on January 30, “We have had rules in place for many years but admittedly, we haven’t been transparent around the policies that guide our content more broadly. This, in turn, led to questions around their application to serious issues including COVID-19. Based on the feedback over the last several weeks, it’s become clear to me that we have an obligation to do more to provide balance and access to widely-accepted information from the medical and scientific communities guiding us through this unprecedented time. These issues are incredibly complex.”
He added:

These policies were developed by our internal team in concert with a number of outside experts and are updated regularly to reflect the changing safety landscape. These are rules of the road to guide all of our creators—from those we work with exclusively to those whose work is shared across multiple platforms. This new effort to combat misinformation will roll out to countries around the world in the coming days. To our knowledge, this content advisory is the first of its kind by a major podcast platform. 
We will also begin testing ways to highlight our Platform Rules in our creator and publisher tools to raise awareness around what’s acceptable and help creators understand their accountability for the content they post on our platform. This is in addition to the terms that creators and publishers agree to governing their use of our services.</blockquote>
On February 6, it was reported that Ek issued a <a href="https://twitter.com/pkafka/status/1490511000499544068">memo to employees</a> in which he stated:
<blockquote>There are no words I can say to adequately convey how deeply sorry I am for the way The Joe Rogan Experience controversy continues to impact each of you. I think it’s important you’re aware that we’ve had conversations with Joe and his team about some of the content in his show, including his history of using some racially insensitive language.
Following these discussions and his own reflections, he chose to remove a number of episodes from Spotify. He also issued his own apology over the weekend. While I strongly condemn what Joe has said and I agree with his decision to remove past episodes from our platform, I realize some will want more. And I want to make one point very clear – I do not believe that silencing Joe is the answer.</blockquote>

Joy Behar expressed her frustrations during Monday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The View&#8221; on ABC, complaining that not enough high-profile musicians or podcasters had removed their own work from Spotify over the platform&#8217;s failure to dump podcast juggernaut Joe Rogan.
Behar and her cohosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Ana Navarro — responded to the news that Joni Mitchell had joined musician Neil Young in <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/joni-mitchell-other-aging-rockers-pull-music-from-spotify-in-support-of-neil-young/">pulling her music</a> from Spotify over <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/joe-rogan-responds-to-controversy-with-spotify-proposes-new-way-forward-for-his-show/">claims</a> that Rogan was promoting &#8220;COVID misinformation,&#8221; and Behar said that she would have liked to see more artists follow suit.

Hostin argued that Spotify had effectively been forced to &#8220;do the right thing,&#8221; saying that it was a step in the right direction for the platform to preface podcasts like Rogan&#8217;s with a disclaimer about what kind of information listeners might be exposed to when they tuned in to his show.
&#8220;He is peddling misinformation. Thank you to Spotify for being a little bit more transparent about your policies, about the consequences to violating those policies and the disclaimer. I don’t think that is censorship at all,&#8221; Hostin said, claiming that the information Rogan allowed on his show &#8220;could lead to the death of people.&#8221;
&#8220;I am always interested in having good corporate citizens. I think they lost $2 billion in market value after Neil Young pulled his music. Is this more about they want to do the right thing? I think they were forced to do the right thing,&#8221; she added.
&#8220;Last year Spotify reviewed an episode where he advised 21-year-olds not to get vaccinated,&#8221; Behar said, noting that the platform had allowed that episode to remain on the platform. &#8220;How is it in their guidelines to tell people to not get vaccinated?&#8221;
Navarro cut in then, saying that the people who were to be praised were the people who &#8220;tuned off&#8221; Spotify in the wake of the controversy — like Mitchell and Young — because they were the ones driving the conversation. But she also said that Rogan was to be commended because he had <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/what-joe-rogan-got-very-right-in-his-response-to-spotify-drama-and-the-one-thing-he-got-wrong/">apologized</a> and said that he could do better in the future.
&#8220;Joe Rogan, you know, I am so used to seeing these people who lie and misinform and spread conspiracy theories double down instead of apologize. Even though he is not my cup of tea, I don’t listen to him, I don’t agree with him, I found it refreshing to hear the words &#8216;I’m sorry&#8217; come out of his mouth,&#8221; she said.
Haines agreed, adding, &#8220;I thought his apology was refreshing because he said, &#8216;I can do better.&#8217; He told us about the Spotify disclaimers. He is going to do better to have opposing views right after another. I guess he does his own scheduling and he said, &#8216;I can do better at that. I can do better at preparing.&#8217; He wings it because he is one of the first podcasts that came on and just was a bunch of friends talking and that was enough to make a good podcast. I appreciated that he said, &#8216;I was wrong, I see the concern, I appreciate the pushback and I am going to do this.&#8217; We don’t see that enough.&#8221;
Behar jumped in then, saying that she was disappointed to see such a small number of artists who were willing to &#8220;put their money where their mouth is.&#8221;
&#8220;I was disappointed, as contrary to you, I was disappointed that more musicians and singers, etc., didn’t pull out. They are on twitter all the time trashing people who don’t get vaccinated and then they keep their music there. This would have been a good opportunity to show what you believe in. And I didn’t see it. I only saw two people in the ’60s and ’70s. Let’s see some young people do it. Let&#8217;s see Taylor and those guys take a stand,&#8221; she said.

When Joe Rogan responded Sunday night to the countless attacks advocating censorship of his enormously popular podcast &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience,&#8221; he got a lot right.
First off, Rogan perfectly articulated the danger of censorship under the guise of stopping so-called &#8220;misinformation.&#8221;
&#8220;The podcast has been accused of spreading ‘dangerous misinformation,” Rogan said in a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CZYQ_nDJi6G/">video</a> posted to Instagram. 
“The problem I have with the term &#8216;misinformation,&#8217; especially today, is that many of the things that we thought of as &#8216;misinformation&#8217; just a short while ago are now accepted as fact,&#8221; he correctly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-rogan-responds-to-controversy-with-spotify-proposes-new-way-forward-for-his-show">explained</a>.
&#8220;For instance, eight months ago, if you said, ‘if you get vaccinated, you can still catch COVID and you can still spread COVID,’ you’d be removed from social media, they would they would ban you from certain platforms. Now, that’s accepted as fact,&#8221; Rogan continued. &#8220;If you said, I don’t think cloth masks work, you would be banned from social media. Now that’s openly and repeatedly stated on CNN. If you said I think it’s possible that COVID-19 came from a lab, you’d be banned from many social media platforms – now that’s on the cover of Newsweek.&#8221;
&#8220;All of those theories that at one point in time were banned, were openly discussed by those two men [Dr. Peter McCullough and Dr. Robert Malone] that I had on my podcast that had been accused of dangerous misinformation,&#8221; Rogan articulated.
He was also impressively magnanimous when speaking specifically about his detractors, such as musicians Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, who&#8217;ve demanded Spotify remove Rogan&#8217;s podcast from the platform.
“First of all, I’m not mad at Neil Young, I’m a huge Neil Young fan,” Rogan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-rogan-responds-to-neil-young-sings-his-music-im-a-huge-neil-young-fan">said</a>. “I’ve always been a Neil Young fan. &#8230; And definitely no hard feelings towards Joni Mitchell. I love her too. I love her music.&#8221;
And finally, Rogan said he wants to have more voices on his show and more &#8220;balance.&#8221; While there is <a href="https://twitter.com/HollywoodInToto/status/1488150465606868992">valid criticism</a> of this comment, it&#8217;s generally good for Rogan to diversify his guests, so long as he does not shy away from speaking with those on the outs with the mainstream media, which is one of the major draws to &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience.&#8221;
But the one thing Rogan got incredibly wrong was his welcoming and explicit approval of Spotify adding a disclaimer to some of his &#8220;controversial&#8221; episodes. Here&#8217;s what Rogan said:
<blockquote>&#8220;One of the things that Spotify wants to do, that I agree with, at the beginning of these controversial podcasts, like specifically ones about COVID … put a disclaimer and say that you should speak with your physician and that these people and the opinions that they express are contrary to the opinions of the consensus of experts, which I think is very important, sure, have that on there.”</blockquote>
What Rogan has effectively promoted is adding a disclaimer qualifying his free-flowing conservations &#8220;misinformation&#8221; — even if the word is not used.
This is particularly confusing coming from Rogan because in this same video message, the host perfectly articulated the farce of flagging and censoring so-called misinformation that has routinely turned out to be true.
As any conservative can attest, it&#8217;s mostly troubling because his concession of a disclaimer only gives the Left more ammunition to outright censor Rogan.
It will not appease the Left like the liberal host wrongfully assesses.

What Joe Rogan Got Very Right In His Response To Spotify Drama — And The One Thing He Got Wrong

Comments made by Neil Young on the subject of homosexuals and the AIDS epidemic have resurfaced, following the musician’s controversial spat with Spotify and podcast host Joe Rogan.
“In an interview with Melody Maker in 1985, Neil Young backed Reagan’s gun control policies and said of AIDS, &#8216;You go to a supermarket and you see a faggot behind the f***in’ cash register, you don’t want him to handle your potatoes,” Young said, <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/michelle-shocked-not-the-first-artist-to-betray-her-fanbase-87622/">Rolling Stone</a> reported in 2013.
“Needless to say, Young almost certainly regrets that horrific statement and quickly moved away from right-wing politics,” Rolling Stone added. “He wrote the furious anti-George H.W. Bush screed ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ in 1989 and was one of George W. Bush’s most vocal critics in the 2000s.”
Last week, in a now-deleted message to his management team and record label, musician Neil Young issued an ultimatum, saying he would not allow Spotify access to his music catalog unless they cut ties with podcast host, Joe Rogan.
“Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule,” Young shared in the letter, as reported by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/they-can-have-rogan-or-young-not-both-neil-young-issues-spotify-an-ultimatum-threatens-pulling-his-music">The Daily Wire</a>.
“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he continued. “They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.”
“With an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, JRE, which is hosted exclusively on Spotify, is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence,” the letter continued. “Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy.”
Rogan responded on Sunday to Young, after his music was pulled from Spotify, saying that he is a huge fan.
“First of all, I’m not mad at Neil Young, I’m a huge Neil Young fan,” Rogan said. “I’ve always been a Neil Young fan. When I was 19, I was a security guard at a place called Great Woods in Mansfield, Massachusetts. It’s an outdoor concert amphitheater. And Neil Young was playing there. And that was the last day I worked there, I quit during the Neil Young concert.”
“So one day during a Neil Young concert, the amphitheater the way it’s set up is, there’s a covered area outside that has seats, and then there’s a lawn area behind it. And the lawn area, during the Neil Young concert, they got a little rowdy, it was cold out and they started bonfires. So they had these raging fires on the lawn. And we were supposed to go and put these fires out and stop them. So we tried for a little while. But then brawls started breaking out and it started getting crazy. And I was like f*** this, so I put my hoodie on, I zipped it up and I left and I drove home. And as I was driving home, I was singing, ‘keep on rockin in a free world.’”
“That was my last day on the job,” he said. “I don’t even think I collected my last check. So no hard feelings towards Neil Young. And definitely no hard feelings towards Joni Mitchell. I love her too. I love her music, ‘Chuck E.’s In Love’ is a great song.”

Joe Rogan, host of &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience,&#8221; responded on Sunday to attacks from musician Neil Young last week — who pulled his music off of Spotify in protest of Rogan — by saying that he is a huge fan of Young and even partially sang one of his songs.
Rogan&#8217;s remarks were contained in a video where he also addressed the controversy with Spotify after Spotify released a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/spotify-takes-new-action-in-response-to-left-wing-outrage-over-joe-rogan-report">statement</a> earlier in the day saying that they were going to take new steps to &#8220;combat misinformation.&#8221;
Toward the end of the nearly 10-minute video, Rogan addressed the situation with Young, who had told Spotify last week that “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”

Joe Rogan Responds To Neil Young, Sings His Music: ‘I’m A Huge Neil Young Fan’

Plenty of aging musicians are taking a stand against Joe Rogan by removing their music from Spotify. Now ex-working royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are entering the fray.
So far, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Bruce Springsteen guitarist Nils Lofgren have joined the protest against “vaccine misinformation,” which they claim Rogan is guilty of because he invites guests with all opinions onto his show. It’s unlikely they’ll hastily remove The Joe Rogan Experience, which is the number one most listened to podcast on the platform. 
According to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/30/entertainment/harry-meghan-spotify-misinformation-intl-gbr/index.html">CNN</a>, Harry and Meghan have been “urging” Spotify to take a stance against misinformation since last April. On Sunday the pair’s Archewell non-profit released a statement that detailed their thoughts. 
&#8220;Last April, our co-founders began expressing concerns to our partners at Spotify about the all too real consequences of COVID-19 misinformation on its platform,&#8221; the spokesperson said in a statement. &#8220;We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis.&#8221;
The statement went on, &#8220;We look to Spotify to meet this moment and are committed to continuing our work together as it does.”
While the statement did not mention Rogan, or the ongoing controversy with artists removing their music from the platform, the timing of their statement plus and the use of the word “misinformation” indicates that the current situation is part of their reason for speaking up now. 
Harry and Meghan shocked the world in January 2020 when they made the public announcement that they’d be leaving their positions as senior working royals in the British royal family. The move came after months of drama, including Harry accusing the press of hounding his wife and treating her unfairly. After they quit, the couple moved to Canada briefly before settling in Meghan’s home state of California more permanently along with their young son, Archie. They’ve added a daughter, Lilibet Diana, to the family in the meantime.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were worth millions when they arrived stateside to start their new lives. But they’ve been working to establish their new careers as well, including an exclusive partnership with Spotify that they announced in December 2020. 
A news release said Harry and Meghan &#8220;will host and produce podcasts that build community through shared experience, narratives, and values.&#8221; Their partnership was a huge win for the platform, but still isn’t anywhere near the draw of The Joe Rogan Experience.
Recently 270 members of the medical community sent an open letter to Spotify demanding they <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/270-doctors-demand-spotify-implement-covid-19-misinformation-policy-over-joe-rogans-podcast">implement a disinformation policy</a>. Then there was subsequent outrage when Dr. Jordan Peterson was a featured guest on JRE and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-rogan-podcast-with-anticipated-guest-jordan-peterson-finally-drops">discussed</a> his reservations about climate change alarmism. 
These statements also aren’t aligned with Meghan and Harry’s views. 
Both the Sussexes are outspoken advocates for climate awareness and believe activism is essential. In 2020, the heir to the British throne even claimed COVID-19 was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/prince-harry-covid-19-is-punishment-for-ignoring-mother-nature-climate-change">nature’s revenge</a> against people mistreating the Earth.
“At the end of the day, nature is our life source,” he said. “Somebody said to me at the beginning of the pandemic, it’s almost as though Mother Nature has sent us to our rooms for bad behavior to really take a moment and think about what we’ve done.”

Neil Young removed his music catalog from Spotify in a public protest against Joe Rogan’s podcast last week, which resulted in both support and criticism from the public. Plenty of fans vowed to cancel their Spotify accounts in solidarity and no doubt some followed through with that threat. But now some Twitter users are crying foul over how mainstream media is reporting on the financial implications of the event.
“Spotify Lost More Than $2 Billion in Market Value After Neil Young Pulled His Music Over Joe Rogan’s Podcast,” a Variety headline announced Saturday. Many other publications had similar declarations, which appeared to link the two events. But the text of the article, commenters pointed out, led to different conclusions.
“This is cherry-picked bullsh**,” Mediaite journalist John Ziegler <a href="https://twitter.com/Zigmanfreud/status/1487503690827247617">shared</a> alongside a chart of the overall stock situation for the company. 
“The market in general was way down this week, but in the last two days of trading, since they announced Young was gone and Rogan is staying, their stock is actually up slightly. You moronic hacks have no shame!”

&#8220;You mean Spotify stock is down, kinda like the entire NASDAQ is down 20% in the same time frame? Is that Rogan&#8217;s fault as well? Critical thinking fail. But then again you weren&#8217;t really thinking at all, were you?&#8221; someone else wrote.

The Variety writer admitted in the text of the article that Spotify stock was already in a severe downward spiral prior to Young’s ultimatum and eventual follow-through. 
“To be sure, Spotify’s stock price was already on the slide — having plummeted 25% year-to-date as of January 25, the day before Young’s catalog was pulled off Spotify,” the article <a href="https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/spotify-2-billion-market-cap-neil-young-joe-rogan-1235166798/">admits</a>. The writer also revealed that the stock rebounded on Friday with a 1% increase that reflected the overall market upturn. But anyone just reading the headline would assume that Young’s departure had catastrophic consequences from a financial standpoint.
The drama began last week as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/they-can-have-rogan-or-young-not-both-neil-young-issues-spotify-an-ultimatum-threatens-pulling-his-music">Young published an open letter</a> to his management team, stating “I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.”
The Canadian-American musician accused Rogan of being guilty of spreading vaccine “misinformation” and that Spotify was complicit in these actions by continuing to host the podcast.
“With an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, JRE, which is hosted exclusively on Spotify, is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence,” the letter continued. “Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy.”
Meanwhile, Rogan hosts the number one most listened to podcast on Spotify and has an exclusive multi-year distribution deal worth more than $100 million, Variety wrote. 
The Variety writer speculated that other artists could follow suit with Young, which already happened once this week when singer Joni Mitchell decided to pull her music from the platform. But so far, those are the only two artists who have removed their music because of Rogan.

‘Cherry Picked Bullsh**’: Twitter Users Responds To Claims Spotify Lost $2 Billion Following Neil Young Exit

Another 1970s singer pulled her music from Spotify in support of Neil Young, after Young pulled his music from the streaming service over Joe Rogan&#8217;s alleged COVID &#8220;misinformation.&#8221;
Joni Mitchell, who rose to fame in the 70s with hits like &#8220;Woodstock&#8221; and &#8220;Big Yellow Taxi,&#8221; announced Saturday that she was removing her music from Spotify in solidarity with Young.
&#8220;I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify,&#8221; Mitchell <a href="https://jonimitchell.com/news/newsitem.cfm?id=1592">wrote</a> on her website. &#8220;Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.&#8221;
Mitchell also linked to an <a href="https://jonimitchell.com/library/view.cfm?id=5101">open letter</a> issued to Spotify by 270 &#8220;scientists, medical professionals, professors, and science communicators&#8221; denouncing Rogan&#8217;s podcast, &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience,&#8221; specifically the December 31 episode featuring Dr. Robert Malone, the medical researcher who helped pioneer the mRNA vaccine technology used in the COVID-19 vaccines. The signees, many of whom are doctors without expertise in infectious disease or immunology, veterinarians, therapists, nurses, students, or podcasters themselves, claimed that Rogan &#8220;has a concerning history of broadcasting misinformation, particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic,&#8221; and said Spotify &#8220;has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform.&#8221;
The move prompted responses from a number of other septuagenarian singers and rock stars who supported Young, with several also pulling their songs from Spotify.

David Crosby, who sang with Young in the folk supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, told another user that he would pull his music from the service if he owned it. &#8220;I no longer control it or I would in support of Neil,&#8221; Crosby tweeted.

A number of users also claimed that singer Barry Manilow was also pulling his music from Spotify, but Manilow dismissed those rumors. &#8220;I recently heard a rumor about me and Spotify,&#8221; Manilow tweeted. &#8220;I don’t know where it started, but it didn’t start with me or anyone who represents me.&#8221;
