<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nebraska" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nebraska</a> Governor Jim Pillen (R) is recovering after sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries in a horseback riding accident.
Pillen was transported to Nebraska Medicine on Sunday afternoon after the accident, which happened while he was riding with his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, his office said in a statement.
&#8220;The Governor’s injuries included minor lacerations to his spleen and kidney, seven broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung resulting from the rib damage, and a minor fracture in one of his vertebrae,&#8221; his office said. &#8220;There were no injuries to his neck, head, nervous system or additional internal organs.&#8221;
The governor’s team of doctors recommended he undergo a coil embolization to stop bleeding in his spleen, his office said. They described the procedure as &#8220;minimally invasive.&#8221;
&#8220;The procedure was a success, and the Governor caught the second half of the Nebraska men’s basketball win over Murray State in his recovery room, while chatting and joking with his family and team,&#8221; his office said on Monday. &#8220;In summary, the Governor’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening and could have been much worse.&#8221;
During the procedure, Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly briefly acted as Governor.

Pillen&#8217;s office said that although he is in stable condition, he will remain in the hospital for several more days for observation. They said he will be able to conduct his work as governor from inside the hospital room.
&#8220;Gov. Pillen, First Lady Suzanne and their family are enormously grateful to the teams at Nebraska Medicine, Columbus Community Hospital, and the EMS professionals who transported him after the accident,&#8221; the statement concluded. &#8220;The Governor looks forward to returning to his office soon after Christmas and wishes a blessed and safe holiday to all Nebraskans.&#8221;

Control of the Senate is on the ballot today, and while Republicans have a straightforward path to flipping the upper chamber, Democrats need to pull off some upsets to maintain control.
Fifty-one senators, including four independents, are in the Democratic caucus in the Senate, compared to 49 Republicans. That breakdown will likely change as numerous Senate races are decided on Tuesday night, and possibly in the days after.
Here are 10 races to watch.
<h4>Arizona — Open Seat</h4>
After Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced earlier this year that she was retiring from the Senate, the race for her seat was blown wide open. While Sinema became an independent in 2022, she still caucuses with the Democrats, meaning her seat would be a big flip for Republicans if they can win on Tuesday.
Republican candidate Kari Lake, who lost the gubernatorial election in 2022, is currently trailing in the polls against Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego. Gallego enjoyed a nearly eight-point lead in the <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/arizona/lake-vs-gallego" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RealClearPolitics</a> polling average in early October, but Lake has cut into that lead, trailing by less than 3 points as of Tuesday afternoon.
Much of the Arizona Senate race has centered on the border crisis, as Lake has hammered Gallego over his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dem-arizona-senate-candidate-supported-amnesty-flip-flopped-on-illegal-aliens-voting" target="_blank" rel="noopener">support for amnesty</a> and his vote against House Joint Resolution 24, which sought to prevent illegal immigrants from voting in local elections in Washington, D.C.
Cook Political Report rates the race as <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/ratings/senate-race-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lean Democrat</a>.
<h4>Maryland — Open Seat</h4>
Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is hoping to give the GOP a Senate seat in one of the most unlikely of states as he faces off against Democrat Angela Alsobrooks. Hogan was a popular governor in the blue state, winning two terms as a Republican. He has campaigned as a moderate willing to reach across the aisle, focusing on addressing economic issues and taxes.
Alsobrooks, a former county executive for Prince George County, Maryland, is pushing for pro-abortion policies and a ban on so-called assault weapons, claiming that &#8220;gun violence is the number one killer of children in America.&#8221; The Democrat leads Hogan in almost every recent <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/maryland/hogan-vs-alsobrooks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a>, and Cook Political Report rates the race as likely Democrat. But if Republicans have a strong night on Tuesday, it could be evidenced by how well Hogan performs in deep-blue Maryland.
<h4>Michigan — Open Seat</h4>
Similar to Arizona, Michigan&#8217;s 2024 Senate race will decide who will replace a retiring senator — in this case, 74-year-old Democrat Debbie Stabenow. Both of Michigan&#8217;s Senate seats have been controlled by Democrats since Republican Spencer Abraham lost his re-election bid to Stabenow in 2000. The party&#8217;s nearly-25 years of controlling Michigan&#8217;s Senate seats, however, is up for grabs as Republican Mike Rogers is running in a tight race against Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin.
Slotkin was the clear favorite to win the race early on, but Rogers has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mi-republican-senate-candidate-gains-ground-on-dem-opponent-new-polls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut into</a> the Democrat&#8217;s lead in the polls. Both Slotkin and Rogers have focused heavily on the economy, with Rogers accusing Slotkin of supporting a controversial Chinese-owned electric vehicle plant being built in Big Rapids, Michigan. Slotkin, meanwhile, has attempted to tie Rogers to Big Pharma and has touted her support of abortion.
Slotkin currently leads in the RealClearPolitics average by 2.3 points, and Cook Political Report rates the race as a toss-up.
<h4>Montana — Democrat Seat</h4>
Longtime Democrat Sen. Jon Tester is in an uphill battle to keep his Senate seat, which he&#8217;s held since 2007. Republican candidate Tim Sheehy, a retired Navy SEAL, is challenging Tester, focusing on the border crisis that has exploded under the Biden-Harris administration.
Montana represents one of the Republican Party&#8217;s best chances to flip a seat in the Senate with Cook Political Report rating the race lean Republican. Tester winning re-election could be vital to the Democratic Party&#8217;s narrow path to keeping control of the Senate. Polling on the Montana race has shown Sheehy leading Tester by nearly 8 points on average, according to <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/montana/sheehy-vs-tester" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RealClearPolitics</a>.
<h4>Nebraska — Republican Seat</h4>
Republican Sen. Deb Fischer is running for re-election against independent candidate Dan Osborn, a Navy veteran. Fischer has served in the Senate since 2013 and has won each of her elections by wide margins. But polling from this year&#8217;s race shows a much closer contest than what Fischer is used to.
Osborn reportedly asked the Democratic Party to keep a candidate off the ballot to form a coalition behind him, but then said he would <a href="https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/05/15/dan-osborn-spurns-democrats-other-parties-whose-help-he-sought-in-senate-race/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not accept</a> the Democratic Party&#8217;s endorsement following the primaries. While an Osborn upset in Nebraska wouldn&#8217;t help push the Democrats closer to a majority, it could potentially hurt the GOP&#8217;s numbers and its path to taking control of the Senate.
Fischer leads in the polls by just over 2 points, according to FiveThirtyEight&#8217;s average. Cook Political Report rates the race as lean Republican.
<h4>Nevada — Democrat Seat</h4>
Nevada Democrat Sen. Jacky Rosen is in a close race against Republican Sam Brown in what would be a huge pick-up for Republicans if Brown can pull off the upset. Rosen won her first term as senator in the 2018 election after serving as a congresswoman from Nevada&#8217;s 3rd District for one term.
Brown, a U.S. Army veteran who was wounded while serving in Afghanistan in 2008, a political outsider is hoping to burst onto the scene with a victory over Rosen. An upset for Brown seemed far from reach just two months ago when Rosen led in the <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/nevada/brown-vs-rosen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RCP average</a> by 10 points, but Brown has chipped away at the Democrat&#8217;s lead, now trailing by just four points. In one recent poll, Brown was tied with Rosen, and in another, he was leading by 1 point.
Cook Political Report rates the race as lean Democrat.
<h4>Ohio — Democrat Seat</h4>
In what Cook Political Report is rating as another toss-up race, Democrat Sherrod Brown has been <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/ohio/brown-vs-moreno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">losing ground</a> in the polls against Republican Bernie Moreno. Brown, who has been in office since 2007, has attempted to present himself as a moderate, especially on energy, vowing that he “will not turn my back on Ohio’s rural electric co-ops, Ohio energy workers, and Ohio families whose energy bills are already too high.” In September, however, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ohio-dem-senator-to-hold-event-with-group-pushing-to-close-states-largest-coal-plant" target="_blank" rel="noopener">participated in a campaign event</a> alongside a radical environmentalist group pushing to close the state’s largest coal plant.
Moreno, a Colombian-born businessman, supports stronger border security and <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bernie-moreno-touts-historically-powerful-trump-endorsement-after-ohio-primary-win-previews-day-1-agenda" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that &#8220;energy dominance&#8221; will be one of his top issues if he is elected. Moreno has also pushed to abolish the Department of Education, arguing that it has a &#8220;stranglehold on our kids.&#8221;
Moreno leads by just 1.7 points in the RealClearPolitics average.
<h4>Pennsylvania — Democrat Seat</h4>
In Pennsylvania, Democrat Sen. Bob Casey is running for his fourth term against Republican businessman Dave McCormick. The battleground state Senate race is another chance for Republicans to steal a seat from the Democrats. McCormick has recently surged in the polls, saying that Pennsylvanians “can see now it’s between a seventh-generation Pennsylvanian, an outsider, a business guy, someone who went to West Point and served in combat, versus a guy who’s been in elected office for 30 years and has been weak in a 99% vote for these liberal policies.&#8221;
In recent weeks, Casey has attempted to tie himself to former President Donald Trump, dropping a campaign that says “Casey bucked Biden to protect fracking and he sided with Trump to end NAFTA and put tariffs on China to stop them from cheating.”
Casey leads McCormick by <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/pennsylvania/mccormick-vs-casey" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1.8 points</a> in the RCP average of polls, and Cook Political Report rates the race as a toss-up.
<h4>Texas — Republican Seat</h4>
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is seeking to fend off an upset bid from Democrat Rep. Colin Allred and keep the Texas Senate seat in the GOP&#8217;s hands. Allred, a former NFL linebacker, has gone along with the Biden-Harris agenda <a href="https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/biden-congress-votes/colin-allred/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">100%</a> of the time. During a recent debate, Cruz <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ted-cruz-blasts-his-dem-opponents-radical-and-extreme-record-during-debate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blasted</a> Allred&#8217;s &#8220;radical and extreme&#8221; record, pointing out that the Democrat voted in favor of the leftist “Equality Act,” a bill that prohibited discrimination based on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity.”
For Democrats to maintain control of the Senate, they would likely have to pull off a win in Montana or a major upset over Cruz in Texas. Cook Political Report rates the Cruz-Allred race as lean Republican.
<h4>Wisconsin — Democrat Seat</h4>
The fourth and final Senate toss-up race, according to Cook Political Report, is the Wisconsin contest between incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin and Republican Eric Hovde. Baldwin, a senator since 2013, has seen the <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2024/wisconsin/hovde-vs-baldwin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">polls</a> grow closer in recent weeks. Hovde, like many Republicans, is focused on immigration and the economy and is hoping to ride some momentum from Trump, who has been focusing on the battleground state.
Baldwin leads Hovde by just 1.8 points, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-walz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Walz</a> (D-MN) is caught up in another scandal after a brutal letter from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce has resurfaced, uncovering another apparent lie from the VP pick.
Walz falsely claimed he was the recipient of an award from the chamber during his 2006 congressional run. In a letter, which was <a href="https://alphanews.org/walz-was-corrected-in-2006-campaign-after-claiming-award-from-nebraska-chamber-of-commerce/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">uncovered</a> by Alpha News, the then-president of the group, Barry L. Kennedy, urged Walz to remove the inaccuracy.
Current Nebraska Chamber of Commerce Chris Sloan confirmed to The Daily Wire that the letter was sent by the chamber in 2006.
“We researched this matter and can confirm that you have not been the recipient of any award from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce,” the letter said.
Kennedy asked Walz to remove the language about the award from his campaign website and noted that the chamber had actually endorsed Walz&#8217;s opponent.
“I am not going to draw a conclusion about your intentions by including this line in your biography,&#8221; Kennedy wrote. &#8220;However, we respectfully request that you remove any reference to our organization as it could be considered an endorsement of your candidacy. It should be pointed out, however, that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed your opponent, Congressman Gil Gutknecht, for his support of small business issues.&#8221;

As highlighted by The Daily Wire, Walz has a pattern of embellishing, misrepresenting, or outright lying.
Recently, it was uncovered that Walz lied about using IVF to conceive his children. Notably, Walz used the false claim to make already dubious attacks against Republicans on so-called reproductive rights.
The Harris campaign this past week <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/19/us/tim-walz-fertility-pregnancy.html">confirmed</a> to The New York Times that Walz and his wife used an insemination procedure called IUI. The insemination takes place inside a woman’s body and does not discard human embryos, and therefore is not on the radar of pro-life activists.
Walz has repeated the lie on the campaign trail, and back in April, his governor campaign office mailed out a fundraising letter with an envelope that said, quote, “My wife and I used I.V.F. to start a family.’’ 
The Democrats&#8217; vice presidential nominee even claimed that he &#8220;wouldn&#8217;t even have a family&#8221; if it were up to his Republican counterpart JD Vance:

There were also several claims made that Walz, who is a former high school teacher, won either one or two Minnesota “Teacher of the Year” awards. The claim was mentioned in a campaign ad, published in a local paper, and is still listed on a candidate biography website. However, as uncovered by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tim-walzs-misleading-claims-about-winning-teaching-awards">The Daily Wire&#8217;s Ashe Schow</a>, Walz was never selected for the award, a review of the <a href="https://educationminnesota.org/news/awards-and-honors/teacher-of-the-year/past-recipients/">website</a> for the teacher of the year award shows.
Walz has also misled the public about his drunk driving arrest. Back in 1995, he was pulled over by a Nebraska trooper for speeding. After the officer smelled alcohol on Walz’s breath, he took a field sobriety test and a blood-alcohol test. Walz failed both. He spent the night behind bars and later admitted that he was driving drunk, according to court records.
However, when he ran for Congress, Walz’s campaign repeatedly <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-ivf-abortion-alabama-republicans-8215336740a5963b57bbd970b47bb3a7">falsely claimed</a> that Walz had not been drinking. They said Walz was pulled over and failed the field sobriety test because of “hearing loss” he suffered during his time serving in the National Guard.
The Harris-Walz campaign has been asked about the discrepancies, and thus far has <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-ivf-abortion-alabama-republicans-8215336740a5963b57bbd970b47bb3a7">refused</a> to address them.
And lastly, and most notably, Walz hasn&#8217;t been truthful about his military service. He did serve in the National Guard, but did not see combat in the Middle East or retire as a command sergeant major, as he&#8217;s claimed numerous times.

Brutal Letter From Chamber Of Commerce Resurfaces And Exposes Another Tim Walz Lie

The Nebraska Supreme Court upheld a ban on both transgender medical procedures for minors and abortion on Friday.
The <a href="https://nebraskalegislature.gov/FloorDocs/108/PDF/Slip/LB574.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> bans abortions after 12 weeks, as well as transgender surgeries and puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for individuals younger than 18.
Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, which works in Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois, filed the lawsuit against the law, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
The abortion provider argued that the law violated the state constitution because it dealt with more than one issue. The state countered that both transgender medical interventions and abortion fall under healthcare.
“Ultimately, ‘if a bill has but one general object, no matter how broad that object may be, and contains no matter not germane thereto, and the title fairly expresses the subject of the bill, it does not violate’” the state constitution, Chief Justice Mike Heavican wrote for the court.
Pro-life advocates immediately hailed the court&#8217;s decision.
“This decision is a victory for Nebraska’s unborn children and their mothers who will continue to be protected from second- and third-trimester abortions,&#8221; said SBA Pro-Life America&#8217;s western regional director Adam Schwend, noting that Nebraska saw a &#8220;massive drop&#8221; in late-term abortions last year thanks to the law.
Last year, abortions in Nebraska <a href="https://nebraskapublicmedia.org/en/news/news-articles/nebraska-abortions-decreased-in-2023-following-12-week-ban-passage/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">decreased</a> nearly 9% from 2022, even with women from Iowa coming in for abortions after Iowa passed a six-week ban.
&#8220;We must continue to guard this protection that prevents abortions of babies who can feel pain and stand firm against the abortion industry’s attempts to roll back the progress we have made in the greatest human rights struggle of our time,&#8221; Schwend said.
Meanwhile, critics have raised the alarm over transgender surgeries and hormone treatments for gender dysphoric children over the last several years. In Europe, several countries have pumped the brakes on these procedures.
Transgender surgeries are not reversible, and both puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones come with serious health risks. Puberty blockers can <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gender-dysphoria/in-depth/pubertal-blockers/art-20459075">affect</a> bone growth and density and cause sexual dysfunction, voice damage, and infertility, among other issues. Cross-sex hormones can <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/transgender-young-people-in-u-s-have-nearly-doubled-recently-report-shows" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cause</a> infertility, deadly blood clots, heart attacks, increased cancer risks of the breasts and ovaries, liver dysfunction, worsening psychological illness, and other serious conditions.
Nebraska joins a number of other states with Republican-controlled legislatures that have banned abortion or transgender medical interventions for minors, or both.
At least 25 states have <a href="https://www.hrc.org/resources/attacks-on-gender-affirming-care-by-state-map" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> restrictions on transgender surgeries and hormone treatments for minors, but the bans are blocked in court in Florida, Ohio, and Montana. Several other states have lawsuits proceeding as well, although the bans remain in effect for now.
At least 24 states have <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/us/abortion-laws-roe-v-wade.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> bans on abortion, although the bans are tied up in court in Montana, Wyoming, and Iowa.

A coalition of 17 red states are challenging <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> over regulations that ban sale of new diesel trucks by 2036.
The lawsuit, led by Nebraska, argues that California’s <a href="https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/our-work/programs/advanced-clean-fleets/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Advanced Clean Fleets</a> regulations on internal-combustion trucks and mandate for “zero emission vehicles” by 2036 violate federal law and will have a nationwide impact. The suit argues the regulations will disrupt supply chains, raise prices on goods, and slow interstate transportation.
“In a stunning gambit that both violates the constitution and threatens our nation’s economic security, an agency of the State of California has attempted to override federal law and arrogate to itself the power to ban internal-combustion engines in medium- and heavy-duty vehicles,” the <a href="https://ago.nebraska.gov/sites/default/files/doc/ACF%20Complaint.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lawsuit</a> says. “This attempted ban contravenes controlling law while defying real-world reality and burdening American families and businesses, already suffering from high inflation, with even more costs.”
The suit was <a href="https://ago.nebraska.gov/news/attorney-general-hilgers-leads-multi-state-coalitions-two-lawsuits-stop-electric-truck-mandates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joined</a> by Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming, as well as the Arizona State Legislature and the Nebraska Trucking Association. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers announced an additional suit against the Environmental Protection Agency for its regulations on tailpipe emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles. “California and an unaccountable EPA are trying to transform our national trucking industry and supply chain infrastructure. Tornadoes ripped through <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/iowa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Iowa</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nebraska" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nebraska</a> on Friday, with no reported deaths despite whole neighborhoods being destroyed. 
Parts of Omaha, Nebraska, and northwest Iowa were severely damaged by the storms. Omaha Fire Chief Kathy Bossman said that there were many houses “flattened” and many more with “significant damage.” Bossman added that emergency crews had to deal with power outages, downed power lines, gas leaks, downed trees, and buildings that had been made structurally unsound by the fierce tornadoes. 
&#8220;They&#8217;re going to be putting together a strategic plan for a detailed search of the area, starting with the properties with most damage,&#8221; Bossman said, <a href="https://journalstar.com/news/state-regional/tornadoes-omaha-elkhorn-blair/article_c696711e-0441-11ef-808d-034419cac7da.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Associated Press. &#8220;We&#8217;ll be looking throughout properties in debris piles, we&#8217;ll be looking in basements, trying to find any victims and make sure everybody is rescued who needs assistance.&#8221;
Pat Woods, who lives  in Omaha’s Elkhorn neighborhood, told the AP he and his wife saw the tornado touch down not far from their home.  
“We watched it touch down like 200 yards over there and then we took shelter,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We could hear it coming through. When we came up our fence was gone and we looked to the northwest and the whole neighborhood&#8217;s gone.”
Multiple people were injured from the tornadoes, including three people in Lancaster County, Nebraska, who were in an industrial building, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tornadoes-hit-nebraska-severe-storms-tear-across-midwest/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. 
&#8220;I have ordered that state resources be made available to assist with the emergency response and to support local first responders as they assess the damage,” Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen <a href="https://omaha.com/news/local/weather/jim-pillen-nebraskas-members-of-congress-on-the-aftermath-of-the-tornadoes-in-nebraska/article_cee53ab0-042f-11ef-b804-4f37f171b6cd.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “Nebraskans are tough, resilient people, and our neighbors and communities will rally around affected families and businesses to assist them. Nebraskans are no strangers to severe weather and, as they have countless times before, Nebraskans will help Nebraskans to rebuild.&#8221;
Cities in Iowa were also hit hard, including Minden and Crescent, where the tornadoes traveled after ripping through Omaha.

A bill in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nebraska" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nebraska</a> that would have kept males out of women’s restrooms and off of girls&#8217; sports teams at schools failed after two Republicans abstained from voting on the measure after they initially indicated support for the legislation. 
The <a href="https://nebraskalegislature.gov/bills/view_votes.php?KeyID=10782" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a>, known as the “Sports and Spaces Act,” failed on Friday after it did not get enough votes to advance it past cloture for a vote on the actual legislation. It <a href="https://apnews.com/article/transgender-bathrooms-sports-nebraska-01b7eeeb56874e2338e58d368765f66a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">needed</a> to get 33 votes in Nebraska’s unicameral legislature, but was blocked from moving forward after a 31-15 vote. 
Two Republicans, state Sens. Tom Brandt and Merv Riepe, both abstained from the cloture vote even though they had initially signed on as sponsors to the legislation. The measure, introduced by state Sen. Kathleen Kauth, would have defined male as someone with XY chromosomes and male anatomy and a female as someone with XX chromosomes and female anatomy. 
“A school should designate each group bathroom and locker room within such school building as either for use by biological females or for use by biological males,” the bill <a href="https://nebraskalegislature.gov/FloorDocs/108/PDF/Intro/LB575.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “An athletic team or sport designated for females, women, or girls shall not be open to a biological male student.” 
Kauth <a href="https://apnews.com/article/transgender-bathrooms-sports-nebraska-01b7eeeb56874e2338e58d368765f66a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the legislation was necessary because of the “significant sports performance gap between the sexes” and that males being allowed to compete on women’s sports teams presented “a significant barrier for female athletes to compete in sports.”
Democrats claimed the legislation was bigoted and meant to bully students. “This is not about protecting women,” Sen. Megan Hunt said. “It’s about the danger and the power of the imagination of a bigot, Sen. Kauth, and those who would support a bill like this.”
The Nebraska Freedom Coalition <a href="https://www.facebook.com/NebraskaFreedom/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ripped</a> into Brandt and Riepe over their votes on the legislation.
“Two Republican state senators have failed to protect women in sports and spaces by stopping LB 575 from becoming law,” the group posted on Facebook. “Let&#8217;s hold them accountable for undermining the rights and opportunities and safety of women athletes.”

Riepe <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/unacceptable-two-red-states-each-fail-to-pass-pro-life-protections-by-one-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously blocked</a> Nebraska from advancing pro-life protections for unborn babies at six weeks after claiming that Republicans “must embrace the future of reproductive rights.” 
Trump won Nebraska with nearly 59% of the vote in 2020 and there has not been a Democratic governor in the state since the 1990s. Governor Jim Pillen<a href="https://www.wowt.com/2024/04/05/nebraska-lawmakers-debate-bill-transgender-student-athletes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> had</a> supported LB 575, saying that it reflected “common sense Nebraska values.” 
“There’s nobody that wants their daughter to be in a locker room with a boy and there’s nobody that wants their son to be in a locker room with girls. It’s just not right, not the way we see it in Nebraska,” he said on Thursday.

A state senator in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nebraska" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nebraska</a> announced on Wednesday that he was changing his party affiliation to Republican because the Democratic Party retaliated against him for taking a stand on abortion and transgender issues.
Mike McDonnell, a lawmaker <a href="https://nebraskalegislature.gov/senators/landing-pages/index.php?District=5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">from Omaha</a> who is term-limited this year after winning elections in 2016 and 2020, made his plans known in a statement <a href="https://central.newschannelnebraska.com/story/50636795/mcdonnell-switches-to-gop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported by News Channel Nebraska</a>.
&#8220;I have asked the Democratic Party to respect my religious based Pro-Life position. Instead over the last year they have decided to punish me for being Pro-Life,&#8221; McDonnell said.
Among the issues he pointed out was the Nebraska Democratic Party censuring McDonnell last month over votes that helped the passage of <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/19/politics/nebraska-abortion-gender-affirming-care/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">restrictions on abortion</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nebraska-becomes-18th-state-to-ban-transgender-surgeries-on-children" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transgender surgeries</a> on children.
McDonnell also accused the Douglas County Democrats of taking revenge on him for being &#8220;Pro-Life&#8221; after they <a class="c-link" href="https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/02/01/douglas-county-democrats-withdraw-support-from-sen-mike-mcdonnell/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-stringify-link="https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/02/01/douglas-county-democrats-withdraw-support-from-sen-mike-mcdonnell/" data-sk="tooltip_parent">moved in February</a> to withdraw support from him in protest of the same votes.
&#8220;Being a Christian a member of the Roman Catholic Church and Pro-Life is more important to me than being a registered Democrat,&#8221; McDonnell said. &#8220;Today I am changing my party affiliation to Republican.&#8221;

A 16-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nebraska" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nebraska</a> teen was arrested earlier this week after allegedly stabbing and murdering her newborn.
The teen, identified on the Sheridan County Court docket as Chloe D. Coplen Anderson, was charged as an adult on two counts: first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Authorities responded to a call on Monday of a juvenile who had given birth at home, and that the baby wasn’t breathing.
According to an <a href="https://nebraska.tv/news/local/nebraska-teen-charged-with-first-degree-murder-in-newborns-death-details-emerge-from-arrest-affidavit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">affidavit</a> obtained by NTV News, the responding officer heard the teen’s mother yelling that her daughter had hurt the baby, referred to as a boy. The officer reported finding the baby with its throat slit and bearing multiple stab wounds around its body.
The affidavit further reported that the child was discovered hidden in an empty plastic dog food bag and a trash bag, covered by clothes in his teen mother’s closet. The teen reportedly admitted to the murder of her child, per the mother’s account to police.
“[She said] it was dead, that she killed it,” said the teen’s mother.
Sheridan County Attorney Jamian Simmons confirmed in a statement <a href="https://chadronradio.com/gordon-teen-charged-with-1st-degree-murder-for-allegedly-stabbing-her-newborn-to-death/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">submitted</a> to ChadonRadio that they believe the teen committed the murder.
“[After] subsequent investigation, it is believed that a 16-year-old female gave birth at home to an infant and is alleged to have intentionally killed the infant by inflicting multiple stab wounds,” stated Simmons.

Anderson’s next court hearing is scheduled for November 16 at 1:30 p.m. Her case number is CR230000392.
There have been several high-profile cases of teenage mothers allegedly killing their children this year.
In July, a 17-year-old Florida mother allegedly put a lethal dose of fentanyl in her baby’s bottle. The Nassau County teen claimed she thought she put cocaine, not fentanyl, in the bottle.
In September, an 18-year old Utah mother was arrested after allegedly killing her premature baby.
Arguably one of the more high-profile cases occurred at the start of this year.
19-year-old Alexee Trevizo, a senior in high school at the time, gave birth in a hospital bathroom in January and allegedly put her child in the trash, where the baby died. Trevizo claimed to police that her child was stillborn. The New Mexico teenager was arrested for first-degree murder in May.
An autopsy of the newborn declared homicide to be the cause of death.
During a pre-trial hearing in August, Trevizo asked for permission to attend New Mexico State University (NMSU) in person while awaiting trial. The judge granted Treviso permission to do so. Additionally, despite prosecutors’ opposition to pretrial release, the judge also granted Trevizo permission to attend prom, walk in her high school graduation, and spend the summer in Texas with her grandparents.
A petition <a href="https://www.change.org/p/get-alexee-trevizo-off-nmsu-campus?redirect=false" target="_blank" rel="noopener">created</a> in August for NMSU to retract Trevizo’s admission has nearly 28,000 signatures.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-air-force" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Air Force</a> has requested that Congress pass legislation to stop wind turbines from encroaching on nuclear missile sites throughout the U.S.
According to the Air Force, underground nuclear missile sites in Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado need to be shielded from the growing wind turbine industry for safety and security concerns. The Air Force <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/air-force-asks-congress-protect-nuclear-launch-sites-104685988" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says</a> that 46 of the 450 underground nuclear missile sites have been “severely” encroached upon. Some wind turbines can stand 650 feet tall and present a barrier for helicopters carrying technicians or others who need to access the sites.
“When you think about a wind turbine, and even fields of wind turbines, they’ll stretch for miles,” Staff Sgt. Chase Rose, a UH-1 Huey flight engineer at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, told the Associated Press. “They’re monstrous, and then you have gigantic blades spinning on them as well. Not only is that a physical obstacle, but those turbines, they create the hazards like turbulence as well. That can be really dangerous for us to fly into. So it’s a very complex situation, when you have to deal with those.”
The Air Force is advocating for legislation that would mandate a 2-nautical-mile buffer zone around the hundreds of underground missile launch sites throughout the U.S. The Air Force and the American Clean Power Association drafted the legislation.
“The wind industry recognizes the nuclear missile silo mission is unique,&#8221; said American Clean Power Association spokesman Jason Ryan. “However, one-size-fits-all setbacks do not make sense for other [Department of Defense] missions or assets as site-specific and mission-specific evaluations are necessary to ensure military readiness.”

Air Force Maj. Victoria Hight, a spokeswoman for F.E. Warren Air Force Base, said the wind turbines can hamper “safe helicopter transit and nuclear security operations” but that the Air Force supports &#8220;renewable energy efforts to include wind turbines, and we continue to work with energy industry partners to ensure the country’s green energy needs are met.” 

The Biden administration has <a href="https://www.doi.gov/pressreleases/biden-harris-administration-advances-15-onshore-clean-energy-projects-potential-power" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aggressively pushed</a> a “transition” to green energy, including announcing the development of onshore renewable energy projects across the West.
“Investing in clean and reliable renewable energy represents the [Bureau of Land Management&#8217;s] commitment to addressing climate change and supports direction from the President and Congress to permit 25 gigawatts of solar, wind and geothermal production on public lands no later than 2025,” the Bureau of Land Management said on Monday when announcing plans for 15 major projects throughout the West.

The game was 36-7 late in the fourth quarter when Colorado decided to pull their top players and Nebraska scored a touchdown with only a few seconds left.
After the game, thousands of students stormed the field to celebrate the win.

A college volleyball game on Wednesday has set a world record – for the largest attendance for a women&#8217;s sporting event in history &#8212; after more than 92,000 fans packed the Nebraska&#8217;s Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
The event took place at the college football stadium when thousands of fans showed up to watch the five-time National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champions University of Nebraska Huskers battle the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks, <a href="https://people.com/nebraska-volleyball-breaks-world-record-for-womens-sports-attendance-7964147" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a> reported. And the Huskers ended up claiming victory for the night, winning the matches 25-14, 25-14 and 25-13, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/nebraska-volleyball-may-break-world-attendance-record/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBS</a> noted.
The record was announced in between the matches and fans went wild, the outlet noted. A typical NCAA volleyball match usually takes place in 10,000 to 20,000 seating arenas.

&#8220;We were walking out of the tunnel after the second set, and we heard on the speaker we had just broken the world record,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Everyone was trying to stay locked in, but we were also so excited. I can&#8217;t describe how grateful I am to be a part of it.&#8221;
Nebraska sophomore middle blocker Bekka Allick said during a press conference before the match that it was a &#8220;once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It honestly leaves me speechless … It&#8217;s hard to grasp 94,000 people,&#8221; <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/nebraska-volleyball-may-break-world-attendance-record/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBS</a> reported.
The Huskers fans surpassed the previous world record of 91,648 set on April 22, 2022, in Spain at a Champions League soccer match between FC Barcelona and Wolfsburg, the outlet noted.
The previous record set for a women&#8217;s sporting event in the United States was set on July 10, 1999, with 90,185 fans at the Women&#8217;s World Cup soccer final between Team USA and China at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
&#8220;I remember that like it was yesterday,&#8221; Nebraska coach John Cook said of that World Cup match, ESPN noted. &#8220;It was so impactful seeing those women compete and their celebration afterward. It made a mark on women&#8217;s sports in this country. They showed what could be done.&#8221;
