It feels like every day there’s a new <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/spencer-pratt-shares-raw-mothers-day-tribute-to-wife-that-hits-all-moms-right-in-the-heart">viral campaign video</a> from Los Angeles mayoral hopeful Spencer Pratt. And every day it’s hard to reconcile that this is the same slime-ball we used to despise on “The Hills.”
For just over four years — from 2006-2010 — we watched Pratt live out his mid-20s in front of an MTV camera, and the angle was typically less than flattering. Engaged at the time to his now wife Heidi Montag, Pratt appeared to manipulate and charm his way through most situations — often coming off like a used-car salesman.
In more recent interviews, Pratt has said that the &#8220;villain&#8221; persona was just that: a persona, put on almost in its entirety to drive ratings. During a Sirius XM interview with host Julia Cunningham in 2025, Pratt explained that he&#8217;d received a simple piece of advice from record producer David Foster on the set of &#8220;The Princes of Malibu.&#8221;
&#8220;He was like, ‘You need to be the Simon Cowell of reality TV,&#8217; and I didn’t even watch ‘American Idol.’ I didn’t even know who Simon Cowell was. I was like, ‘What does that mean?’ … He’s like, ‘Be the bad guy. Be the villain,'&#8221; Pratt explained.
“What [David] didn’t explain to me, though, why Simon Cowell was able to get away with what he did, is [that] it was grounded in, ‘I’m trying to tell you you’re not talented because it’s just the truth,’” Pratt continued. “The problem with me just being blunt and doing whatever producers wanted and making the game is [that] the audience doesn’t see any — there’s no, ‘He’s just telling it how it is.’ It was just like, ‘Oh, he’s a monster.&#8217;”
Still, he leaned into the persona and even marketed it, emblazoning his personal website with the tagline, &#8220;Feel free to hate on me &#8230; daily!&#8221;
And we did.
But these days, Pratt says the only people who really hate him are the socialists and the communists — most of whom are currently rallying to keep him from becoming the next mayor of Los Angeles. And the more he talks, the harder it is for even those of us who grew up seeing him as the &#8220;villain&#8221; to keep seeing him that way.
But in a way, it makes sense — we&#8217;re far from the same person we were 20 years ago, too. Fans of the show remember Spencer as being incredibly full of himself. That’s still true, but when it comes to running for office, his overinflated ego really comes in handy. Plus, he’s now a husband and a father watching his beloved town suffer the worst aspects of leftist policies. It’s far easier to be sympathetic now than when &#8220;The Hills&#8221; was first broadcast.
But then came the real wrinkle: Pratt lost his home in the deadly Palisades fire in early 2025. His mother lost the house he&#8217;d grown up in. Neighbors and friends burned to death in their beds.
Prior to the fires, Pratt hadn’t publicly expressed interest in politics — despite having earned his political science degree from USC in 2013 — and had the disaster never happened, he probably would have been content to sell crystals online forever. But the fire forced Pratt to step out of his blissful post-reality star haze, look around, and finally say what city dwellers have been thinking for years: “What the hell are we doing here?”
The Trump/Pratt comparisons are reasonable. While the former MTV drama series player doesn’t quite have the same charisma as Trump, he does have that everyman quality, a penchant for showmanship, and a willingness to say what everyone is thinking without sugarcoating it in politically correct euphemisms. 
Pratt’s ads, even the AI-generated ones that he has shared, work because they reflect the real conversations people are having about the state of the country. They tap into people’s worst fears about the future, giving a voice to what feels like common sense. It’s easy to nod along, a sense of righteous anger growing, wondering why homeless addicts are permitted to run the cities while law-abiding citizens cower in their homes. 
Instead of using polished talking points, Pratt speaks off the cuff and just says the thing out loud that no one expects him to say. You know, like Trump does.
When leftist City Council member Nithya Raman trotted out tired lines about solving homelessness, Pratt went in for the kill. 
“I will go below the Harbor Freeway tomorrow with her, and we can find some of these people she’s going to offer treatment for. She’s going to get stabbed in the neck,” he said during the debate that <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/05/07/us-news/spencer-pratts-resounding-win-at-la-mayoral-debate-revealed-in-dramatic-new-poll/">89% of viewers</a> said he won in a landslide. “These people do not want a bed. They want fentanyl or super meth.”
These ads paint Pratt as a literal superhero and far-Left politicians like Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as the supervillains. Everyone’s favorite failed presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, even pops up because she helped make California awful, too. Pratt isn’t pretending to be some political genius, but is rather a stand-in for what would happen if you, or I, or some other regular person were suddenly dropped into office and given the chance to fix things. 
Among a crowded field of hardcore leftists, Pratt isn’t leaning into politics to make his case. Instead, he’s counting on people ignoring party lines in favor of common sense. This is the double-edged sword of living in a city that’s so far gone — he sounds a bit radical when he makes statements that, in any other city, would sound sane. 
What’s even funnier is how ads made to oppose Pratt wind up <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/see-it-leftist-ad-tries-to-make-spencer-pratt-look-bad-fails-miserably">making him look better</a>. One ad sponsored by L.A. Unions Opposed to Spencer Pratt for Mayor accused him of “[opposing] using taxpayer money to build brand new houses for our unhoused neighbors, saying it’s time for the homeless to get help or get out. Pratt thinks L.A. needs thousands more police officers rather than more social workers.”
Well, yes. And that’s why his campaign is working. Pratt responded to the ad by saying, “Wait. Unions are mad that I want firefighters and city workers to get better pay and safer working conditions? What are they actually … for?”
It’s a question being asked by Angelenos and beyond, and while the polls show that Pratt is still a long shot rather than a foregone conclusion, it’s tempting to believe that the polls are wrong.

Leftist special interest groups ran an ad that was supposed to make former MTV reality TV star-turned-Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt look bad, and they appear to have stepped in it.
The ad, sponsored by L.A. Unions Opposed to Spencer Pratt for Mayor 2026 and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, lays out a number of things that Pratt has either supported or opposed — and accidentally paints him as an entirely reasonable person with an agenda that veers dangerously close to the dictionary definition of &#8220;common sense.&#8221;

Pratt <a href="https://x.com/spencerpratt/status/2053535640277709257">responded</a> to the ad, saying, &#8220;Wait. Unions are mad that I want firefighters and city workers to get better pay and safer working conditions? What are they actually … for?&#8221;
The majority of those responding commented on the fact that the unions, in attempting to paint Pratt as an extreme Republican, had only helped him to outline his positions in ways that would sound entirely reasonable — even good — to the average person.
RedState&#8217;s Jennifer Van Laar had a <a href="https://x.com/jenvanlaar/status/2053492048922296546">similar reaction</a>, saying of the ad, &#8220;Do these people know nothing of branding and sales? I get that the point of it is to make sure everyone knows that Spencer is Republican (since it&#8217;s a nonpartisan race that isn&#8217;t on the ballot) but damn. Saying his name so many times can really backfire. And they&#8217;re associating him with getting rid of homeless encampments and adding cops. Oh, the horror!&#8221;

The New York Times is under fire for what many are calling a bizarre hit piece on Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The piece, by reporter Caroline Kitchener, calls Duffy the “MTV Reality Star in Trump’s Cabinet Who Wants You to Have More Kids.” Duffy appeared on “The Real World: Boston” in 1997, and “Road Rules: Allstars” the following year, where he met his future wife, Rachel Campos.
Duffy and Campos wed in 1999 and went on to have nine children. Duffy’s political career began in 2002, when he was named District Attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin. He served in the House of Representatives from 2011-2019. During his first campaign, he told Politico that his time as a reality TV star was “a lifetime ago,” calling it “Six months, 15 years ago.”
Still, to Kitchener, Duffy is still the “sex-hungry 25-year-old on MTV’s “The Real World,” now using his family for clout, and letting his personal convictions about family influence his policy.
Kitchener, who chronicles family issues in the “Trump era” for the Times, is a former abortion reporter for the Washington Post and received the Pulitzer Prize in 2023 for work on the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
She <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/23/us/politics/sean-duffy-reality-television.html">claims</a> the Duffys “positioned themselves as the poster family for the administration’s agenda to raise the birthrate and promote a conservative view of traditional family values.”
Her greatest accusation is that Duffy’s “policies and perspectives are shaped by the conviction that women should be having more children.”
“Early in his tenure at the Transportation Department, Mr. Duffy signed a controversial memo pledging to prioritize transportation funding for regions with higher birthrates and marriage rates — an approach that Democratic senators have called &#8216;deeply frightening&#8217; and &#8216;disturbingly dystopian.&#8217;”
Duffy dismissed Kitchener’s characterization, saying, “With all the serious issues facing our country, the New York Times decided to dispatch a former abortion correspondent (cosplaying now as a “family” expert) for a hit piece on me and the Trump administration.”

Kitchener “ is genuinely disturbed that I’m happily married, have nine kids, and—brace yourself—didn’t abort any of them,” Duffy added.
“Among the hard-hitting questions she harassed my team with: did I consider aborting one of my daughters, what color plaid my siblings and I wore as children, whether I drive a minivan, and bizarre fact-checks on an old reality show. Pulitzer stuff, truly.”
“I’m laser focused on making transportation great again,” Duffy added. “While they obsess over my beautiful family, I’m working for yours.”
Others were quick to criticize Kitchener and her piece.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">MTV News</a> has closed down after 36 years in operation as its parent company Paramount Global implements mass layoffs.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">news division</a> of MTV launched in 1987 with “The Week In Rock” featuring host Kurt Loder, who was trending on social media on Wednesday. It aimed to provide entertainment content for anyone looking for an alternative news network focused on music, pop culture, news, and politics.
One of the most viral moments in the network&#8217;s history was during a 1994 town hall about violence in America with then-President Bill Clinton, who admitted to choosing briefs over boxers when an audience member asked about his underwear preference.
&#8220;Mr. President, the world’s dying to know, is it boxers or briefs?&#8221; the woman asked Clinton.
&#8220;Usually briefs,&#8221; Clinton said. &#8220;I can’t believe she did that.&#8221; 
Their exchange became national news at the time. 
The decision to close MTV News comes during a new round of layoffs, which reportedly cut MTV and Showtime’s staff by almost 25%, according to a memo to employees obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
&#8220;This is a tough yet important strategic realignment of our group,&#8221; President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks Chris McCarthy wrote in the memo. &#8220;Through the elimination of some units and by streamlining others, we will be able to reduce costs and create a more effective approach to our business as we move forward.&#8221;
MTV News was much smaller and less popular in recent years than in the 1990s and early 2000s. It was slimmed down in 2017 following a failed campaign to compete with outlets like Vice and Buzzfeed, which have also been struggling lately, per <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/mtv-news-shut-down-paramount-layoffs-kurt-loder-1235483098/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.
Fans and former employees shared their thoughts about the shuttering of MTV News on social media. 
&#8220;This is a very sad day for a lot of friends and colleagues,&#8221; MTV personality Josh Horowitz said in a <a href="https://twitter.com/joshuahorowitz/status/1656037199517761543">tweet</a>. &#8220;Many great people lost their jobs. I was hired by MTV News 17 years ago. I’m so honored to have been a small part of its history. Wishing the best for the best in the business.&#8221;

Pennsylvania state troopers initiated a manhunt Sunday for former &#8220;Jackass&#8221; star Brandon &#8220;Bam&#8221; Margera after he allegedly attacked his brother and threatened to kill him and several others, including their father, according to police.   
Margera, 43, who also starred in his own MTV series dubbed &#8220;Viva La Bam,&#8221; faces six misdemeanor charges, including one charge of simple assault, one charge of harassment, and four charges of terroristic threats &#8220;with intention to terrorize another&#8221; a <a href="https://www.pacourts.us/Storage/media/pdfs/20230424/161439-criminalcomplaintmargera.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criminal complaint</a> reads. 
Around 11:00 a.m., state troopers responded to a domestic disturbance at Margera&#8217;s $ 1.1 million Pocopson Township home, called &#8220;Castle Bam,&#8221; in Chester County after the &#8220;Jackass&#8221; personality allegedly had gotten into an altercation with his brother, Jesse Margera, three hours earlier. According to the complaint, Bam pounded and kicked his brother&#8217;s locked bedroom door and left a signed note threatening Jesse that read, &#8220;If you even f***ing think of calling the police on me I will officially f*** you up.&#8221; 
Jesse, 44, who plays drums for American punk band CKY, told police he eventually walked into the kitchen, where he found Bam urinating in the kitchen sink. The complaint alleges Bam started attacking Jesse in the face and body, leaving visible injuries on his face and right arm.
After the alleged altercation ended between the two brothers, Jesse told police that Bam threatened him, saying, &#8220;I&#8217;ll kill you. I&#8217;ll put a bullet in your head.&#8221; Bam allegedly threatened to &#8220;kill everyone in the house,&#8221; police wrote in the complaint, which included their father, Phillip Margera Jr., and two females.
When troopers arrived at the Margera home, authorities witnessed Bam fleeing the scene on foot toward the back of the property through a dense-wooded area. By the time several troopers had followed him into the woods, Bam had already disappeared.
Bam&#8217;s charges come amid a long history of legal problems and substance abuse issues, according to <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11950861/Bam-Margera-sued-threatening-use-brass-knuckles-man-loud-SEX-near-family.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Mail.</a> Recent charges include a &#8220;drunk in public&#8221; arrest, domestic violence, and a current lawsuit from a neighbor who claims Bam threatened him with brass knuckles.
His wife, Nikki Margera, reportedly filed for divorce in February of this year, alleging Bam was not sober during a visit to their 5-year-old son Phoenix. She told TMZ the visit &#8220;was scary . . .and even more scary for Phoenix&#8221; when their last visit &#8220;went reasonably well&#8221; just 24 hours earlier.

&#8220;This is the umpteenth time that Bam takes one step forward and ten steps back,&#8221; she said.
Pennsylvania State Police issued an arrest warrant for Bam and have asked the public to call 610-268-2022 for any help or information regarding his whereabouts as they continue searching for him.

There is a video of Lizzo climbing the steps to a private jet while baring her entire butt by wearing cutout leggings from her Yitty shapewear line.
The 34-year-old rapper shared the short clip earlier this year knowing that the comments section would be filled with messages of affirmation and support. She expected it because, over time, Lizzo has become the poster child for the body positivity movement.
More recently, the singer shared a surprising message with followers during her acceptance speech at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. Lizzo claimed that she’s “oppressed.” But is she?
Melissa Viviane Jefferson enjoyed a meteoric rise to superstardom that most aspiring singers could only experience in their dreams. It’s no coincidence that her first bona-fide hit single, “Good As Hell” (2016) is an anthem celebrating self-love and body acceptance. This has become Lizzo’s image over the years and it’s something her fans have come to expect from her. Rather than hiding her feelings about her size, Lizzo has turned her figure into a money-making brand.
“Your vote means everything to me, it means everything to making a change in this country &#8230; When you’re voting for your favorite artist, vote to change some of these laws that are oppressing us,” the singer said during her speech at the VMAs.
Lizzo never clarified how, precisely, she is being oppressed, which earned her a lot of backlash on social media. However, she did express her frustration at people making negative comments about her physique.
“You know what? I’m not gonna say nothing,” she also said during the speech. “They be like, ‘Lizzo, why don’t you clap back? Why don’t you clap back?’ ‘Cause, b***, I’m winning, ho! Big b**** is winning, ho!” she yelled to the cheering crowd.
Most viewers assume those statements were directed at comedian Aries Spears, who had previously questioned why Lizzo has become a role model for women.
“I can’t get past the fact that she looks like the s*** emoji,” Spears said during an interview with “The Art of Dialogue.”
“She’s got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off. Like, come on, man. Come on, yo.”
“I’m sorry,” he continued. “Listen, I ain’t the most in-shape n**** in the world, but I still — when you funny and you got swagger and confidence and you decent looking &#8230; I think I’m at least handsome — you get p***y. But a woman that’s built like a plate of mashed potatoes is in trouble.”
He questioned Lizzo’s health specifically.
“You know what kills me about women is the hypocrisy and the contradiction,” Spears went on. “F*** diabetes, f*** heart problems, f*** heart disease, cholesterol. Y’all claim womanhood and about sisterhood and support for your sister, you know, when it comes to that ridiculous s***. But if you really gave a f***, why wouldn’t you go, ‘Black girl, we love your confidence, boo boo, but this ain’t it. This ain’t it.’”
“That’s the real love! Y’all jump on me for making jokes, but y’all won’t be f***ing real and go, ‘Sister, put the eclair down. This ain’t it. It’s treadmill time,’” he concluded.
It’s difficult to keep track of just how many times Lizzo has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lizzo-bares-her-entire-butt-in-revealing-new-instagram-promo-for-yitty-shapewear">shown off</a> her plus-sized physique.
In 2019, she debuted some thong underwear in a black cutout dress that left nothing to the imagination while dancing to her song “Juice” at a Minnesota Timberwolves/LA Lakers game. Lizzo declared it was “a** crack summer” after posting a series of photos of herself in a skintight purple dress that exposed her behind again.
“Who I am, and the essence of me and the things I choose to do as a grown a** woman, can inspire you to do the same,” the singer told Page Six in response to criticism.
“You don’t have to be like me. You need to be like you. And never ever let somebody stop you or shame you from being yourself. This is who I’ve always been,” Lizzo said. “Now everyone’s lookin’ at it, and your criticism can just remain your criticism. Your criticism has no effect on me. Negative criticism has no stake in my life.”
She continued, “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been … I’m surrounded by love, and I just wanna spread that love — and also spread these cheeks. And if you really, really don’t like my a**, you can kiss it.”
By the language standard of the left, no one is allowed to criticize Lizzo or suggest that celebrating morbid obesity is a dangerous pursuit. Some people are starting to think the “Truth Hurts” singer is the opposite of oppressed since even basic rules of health don’t apply to her.
“It’s hard to think of a less oppressed figure than Lizzo,” The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ben-shapiro-lizzos-mtv-victim-rant-does-democrats-fat-lot-of-good">said</a> in response to the speech. “This is a danger to Democrats. The more they preach that, the more they lose.”
Lizzo has ventured into political propaganda too. She donated $500,000 to Planned Parenthood just after the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June and has spoken about other social issues, including the trans agenda.
“I’m proud to rep Houston, but I’m not proud to rep Texas politics right now,” Lizzo <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mind-your-business-lizzo-calls-texas-abortion-ban-atrocious-says-trans-rights-are-human-rights">told</a> the crowd at SXSW in March. “Mind your business. Trans rights are human rights.”
During the same event, she called Texas’s abortion ban “atrocious.”
“Stay out of my body. This is not political,” Lizzo said, while claiming conservative politicians were “all up in your uterus.”
Lizzo isn’t the only one promoting obesity in the culture. Recently, fashion brand Abercrombie &amp; Fitch went viral for publishing photos of a larger than average plus-sized model wearing their clothing, and Victoria’s Secret has taken a similar approach with their brand. Lizzo appeared on the cover of Vogue in 2020.
And during that cover interview, she addressed her icon status. Lizzo says she doesn’t want to become the poster child for body positivity. She just wants obesity to become the norm. A statement like that doesn’t promote kindness, or freedom, or eliminate any type of oppression. It just seems to try and replace the current standard of health with a new, illogical one.
“It’s commercialized,” she said of the trend. “Now, you look at the hashtag ‘body positive,’ and you see smaller-framed girls, curvier girls. Lotta white girls. And I feel no ways about that, because inclusivity is what my message is always about. I’m glad that this conversation is being included in the mainstream narrative.”
She continued, saying larger women are getting overshadowed by people who aren’t fat enough.
“What I don’t like is how the people that this term was created for are not benefiting from it. Girls with back fat, girls with bellies that hang, girls with thighs that aren’t separated, that overlap. Girls with stretch marks. You know, girls who are in the 18-plus club,” she continued. “They need to be benefiting from&#8230;the mainstream effect of body positivity now. But with everything that goes mainstream, it gets changed. It gets—you know, it gets made acceptable.”
“I think it’s lazy for me to just say I’m body positive at this point,” Lizzo told <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/lizzo-cover-october-2020">Vogue</a>. “It’s easy. I would like to be body-normative. I want to normalize my body. And not just be like, ‘Ooh, look at this cool movement. Being fat is body positive.’ No, being fat is normal. I think now, I owe it to the people who started this to not just stop here. We have to make people uncomfortable again, so that we can continue to change. Change is always uncomfortable, right?”

The Daily Wire co-founder told his vast <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-1563-why-are-republicans-losing-2022-election-momentum" target="_blank" rel="noopener">podcast audience</a> that another liberal millionaire artist claiming to be a victim won’t help Democrats win elections. And her own denial about her ample size won’t help the “About Damn Time” singer lose weight, Shapiro said.

Lizzo made her remarks while picking up the award for “Music Video for Good,” a designation she said she didn’t even understand. She thanked those who voted for her, and then made a profane pivot to politics.
“Your vote means everything to me, it means everything to making a change in this country,” she said. “So, remember, when you’re voting for your favorite artist, vote to change some of these laws that are oppressing us.”
Lizzo, who campaigned for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 election, didn’t mention any specific laws, or even how voting for a music award could advance a political agenda. Still, she managed to make an appeal for the &#8220;hierarchy of victimhood inside the Democratic Party,&#8221; Shapiro noted.
Without mentioning comedian Aries Spears, Lizzo appeared to complain about a remark he made Friday on &#8220;The Art of Dialogue&#8221; podcast.
&#8220;She&#8217;s got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off,” Spears said. “Sister, put the eclair down. This ain’t it. It’s treadmill time.&#8221;
Lizzo, who earlier this year wore a thong bikini for a photo shoot, should probably expect comments about her weight, especially since she embraces it in interviews, said Shapiro.
“I wake up into my obese bed,” Lizzo said in an <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CMGBayTlESb/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=0bbe6ace-7000-41c9-ad9f-868ee02beb17" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram video last year</a>. “I have to get, like, a king bed because I’m so obese. And I put on my obese Louis Vuitton house slippers, and I walk into my massive, obese bathroom, and I just stare into my wall-to-wall, obese mirror, and I just lather myself in the most obese, expensive oils and creams.”
“Apparently she&#8217;s surprised because somebody told a joke about the fact that she is fat,” Shapiro said. “And I mean, I hate to break it to the world, but Lizzo is overweight.&#8221;
Spears, Shapiro noted, made the point that those who care about health – Lizzo’s or anyone else’s – should not encourage obesity.

Whitney Heard, the younger sister of actress <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/amber-heard">Amber Heard</a>, publicly fumed over the inclusion of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/johnny-depp">Johnny Depp</a> at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday.
Amber Heard has claimed that Depp, her ex-husband, physically and sexually abused her during their relationship; Depp has denied all allegations. A jury on June 1 found that the &#8220;Aquaman&#8221; actress defamed Depp in an op-ed about domestic violence published by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/washington-post">The Washington Post</a> in 2018, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jury-awards-johnny-depp-15-million-but-hell-get-millions-less-heres-why">awarding</a> Depp $15 million in damages.
&#8220;[MTV] you&#8217;re disgusting and clearly desperate!&#8221; Whitney said on her Instagram stories, Sunday evening. &#8220;I really hope that none of the people that made this call have daughters.&#8221;

Whitney notably <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heard-friend-jennifer-howell-expected-to-testify-for-johnny-depp-blow-up-sisters-staircase-incident">testified</a> on behalf of her sister during the highly publicized six-week-long defamation trial, in part accusing Depp of smacking Amber in the face during an alleged 2015 incident in the couple’s penthouse.
“He called her a ‘used-up trash bag,’ she called him ‘old and fat,&#8217;” Whitney <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/05/18/amber-heards-sister-says-johnny-depp-hit-her-during-blowout/">recalled</a> of the alleged incident. Then, Depp allegedly hit Whitney in the back, sparking Amber to “land one” on the actor, Whitney said. In response, Depp allegedly repeatedly smacked Amber in the face, the sister added.
During the intense trial, Amber Heard detailed serious allegations of abuse at the hands of Depp, including a rape with a possibly broken Maker’s Mark bottle. Depp and his legal team told the jury that Amber Heard perpetrated a #MeToo hoax to take from Depp and also to punish him for leaving her.
During closing arguments, Depp attorney Camille Vasquez said that Amber Heard &#8220;gave the performance of her life.&#8221;
“She came into this courtroom prepared to give the performance of her life, and she gave it,” Vasquez <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/camille-vasquez-accuses-amber-heard-sobbing-without-tears-1710914">said</a>. “Ms. Heard’s acting coach, Kristina Sexton, testified that Ms. Heard has difficulty crying when she is acting. You saw it, Ms. Heard sobbing without tears while spinning elaborate, exaggerated, fantastical accounts of abuse.”
“It was a performance,” the attorney told the jury. “She told you what she thinks you need to hear to convict this man as a domestic abuser and a rapist. She wants you to believe she was abused countless times. Countless times over the entire course of their relationship. But as Mr. [Ben] Chew and I promised you, the evidence just does not bear that out.”

This was the same wording as Nicki Minaj’s opening during the 2015 VMAs, Page Six <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/08/28/lizzo-claps-back-at-body-shamer-aries-spears-at-vmas-2022/">noted</a>, which was directed at Miley Cyrus. But while Minaj famously followed up by saying, “Miley, what’s good,” Lizzo kept her criticism a bit more ambiguous.

Most viewers assume she’s addressing the beef between her and Spears. The comedian questioned why fans look up to Lizzo as a role model when obesity is so unhealthy.
“I can’t get past the fact that she looks like the s*** emoji,” Spears said during a recent interview with “The Art of Dialogue.” 
“She’s got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off. Like, come on, man. Come on, yo.”
“I’m sorry,” he continued. “Listen, I ain’t the most in-shape n**** in the world, but I still — when you funny and you got swagger and confidence and you decent looking … I think I’m at least handsome — you get p***y. But a woman that’s built like a plate of mashed potatoes is in trouble.”
Next, he called out Lizzo’s health specifically. 
“You know what kills me about women is the hypocrisy and the contradiction,” Spears went on. “F*** diabetes, f*** heart problems, f*** heart disease, cholesterol. Y’all claim womanhood and about sisterhood and support for your sister, you know, when it comes to that ridiculous s***. But if you really gave a f***, why wouldn’t you go, ‘Black girl, we love your confidence, boo boo, but this ain’t it. This ain’t it.’”
“That’s the real love! Y’all jump on me for making jokes, but y’all won’t be f***ing real and go, ‘Sister, put the eclair down. This ain’t it. It’s treadmill time,’” he concluded.

Puerto Rican artist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/music" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bad Bunny</a> made history at the 2022 <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mtv" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MTV</a> Video Music Awards for being the first Latin star to nab Artist of the Year, but many fans are more interested in talking about his kiss with a male backup dancer. 
Critics accused Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lgbtq" target="_blank" rel="noopener">queerbaiting</a>” and trying to get attention. Others questioned if the 28-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/music-industry" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rapper</a> is bisexual. Ultimately, the kiss became a hot topic on Twitter following Ocasio’s performance of his hit song “Tití Me Preguntó” at the ceremony.
“He needs to stop queerbaiting,” one viewer responded.
Another compared him to artist Harry Styles, who is also famously ambiguous about his sexuality and has also been accused of doing it for attention.
“Harry’s queerbaiting classes are working I see,” another person said. 
Several fans pointed out that Bad Bunny also kissed a female backup dancer during the performance, which only added to the confusion.
The bilingual performer was up against Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X, and Lizzo for Artist of the Year. He made history by being the first non-English-language performer to win the accolade. In 2020, he became the first non-English-language star to become Spotify&#8217;s most streamed artist of the year.
Ocasio shared details of his sexuality during a 2020 cover story with Playboy. “I think that sex is a giant world, and everyone is free to see it as they want and do it with whoever they want, however they want, with infinite possibilities,” Bunny <a href="https://www.playboy.com/read/bad-bunny-is-not-playing-god?utm_source=instagram&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=cover-feature&amp;utm_content=bad-bunny-en_instagram">said</a>. “In the end, we are human beings. Everybody feels, everybody falls in love with whoever they&#8217;re meant to.”
He had similar thoughts about wearing dresses and other traditionally feminine clothing. Ocasio, who dressed in drag for his “Yo Perreo Sola” music video, <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/bad-bunny-june-cover-profile" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> GQ this year that “a dress is a dress.”
“It depends on my state of mind,” the singer told the publication of his fashion choices. “Everybody has to feel comfortable with what they are and how they feel. Like, what defines a man, what defines being masculine, what defines being feminine? I really can&#8217;t give clothes gender.”
He continued, saying, “To me, a dress is a dress. If I wear a dress, would it stop being a woman&#8217;s dress? Or vice versa? Like, no. It&#8217;s a dress, and that&#8217;s it. It&#8217;s not a man&#8217;s, it&#8217;s not a woman&#8217;s. It&#8217;s a dress.”

&#8220;This is so wild to be up here with so many artists that I worship,&#8221; Cameron told the crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. &#8220;These are some of my all-time favorite artists up here. This year has been so wild and I have no explanation for it, except for that I have you guys to thank. I know that.&#8221;
&#8220;I wanna dedicate this to all of the queer kids out there,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Who don&#8217;t feel that they can take up space and inhabit the fullness of who they are. Thank you for getting an overtly queer song on to mainstream radio. Thank you for supporting me for the person and artist that I am. I hope in that way, you&#8217;ve also given that privilege to yourself.&#8221;
