Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent took a swing at liberal media network MS NOW — referring to it by its previous name, MSNBC — prompting laughs from Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) along with several others in Thursday&#8217;s Senate Banking Committee hearing.
Bessent was taking questions from the committee on the economy during President Donald Trump&#8217;s first year in office, and he made the argument that public sentiment — and consumer confidence — could easily be influenced by dishonest media narratives.

Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) noted that consumer confidence did not appear to match the numbers coming from recent economic reports — and asked Bessent to identify where the disconnect might be and explain what could be done to bring people around.
&#8220;Despite all this progress, we&#8217;re seeing consumer confidence is not really rebounding the way that the economy seems to be,&#8221; Ricketts said. &#8220;In your opinion, what more can we in the Senate be doing with regard to consumer confidence and, you know, obviously, we had 40-year high inflation under the Biden administration. What more could we be doing in the Senate … to be able to help out with confidence … of consumers?&#8221;
&#8220;Other than telling consumers to turn off MSNBC,&#8221; Bessent began, prompting several loud laughs. &#8220;A large part of it is a survey problem, where Democrats vote very low and Republicans are more realistic, and then we end up — what we are seeing —&#8221;
Scott interrupted them to explain that the time had expired for Senator Ricketts and it was time to move on with the hearing.
&#8220;I appreciate your comments, believe me,&#8221; Scott said to Bessent with a chuckle.
Bessent also sparred with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who asked him during Thursday&#8217;s hearing whether he agreed with President Donald Trump about the &#8220;affordability crisis&#8221; being a &#8220;hoax.&#8221;
Bessent carefully explained — more than once — that the Trump administration&#8217;s position was not that the affordability crisis was a hoax. He argued instead that the &#8220;hoax&#8221; was a reference to Democrat efforts to spin a real crisis of their own making — during former President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration — as something brand new that was wholly created and owned by President Trump.

A recent video claims that the Christmas song &#8220;Jingle Bells&#8221; is racist. And lest you think that&#8217;s absurd, let me say that no less a philosopher than Joy Reid retweeted the video, because she had nothing better to do since MSNBC canceled her show when they found they couldn’t fit a camera into her padded cell. To be fair, MSNBC also canceled MSNBC, changing its name to MS-NOW, which caused the MSNBC audience to sit up and say, “Where the hell am I?” before she sank back into the marijuana-fueled haze she’s been in since 1969. 
The idea that &#8220;Jingle Bells&#8221; is racist emanates from the work of a Boston University professor who says &#8220;Jingle Bells&#8221; isn’t racist. The professor does say the song may have been first performed in a nineteenth century minstrel show, where white people dressed up as black people in the hope of tricking the audience into thinking they had musical talent. The author of &#8220;Jingle Bells&#8221; wrote songs for such black-face shows, and also fought in the Civil War on the side of the Confederacy, but he’s dead now so he got his. 
What’s left is the song itself. And yes, it certainly is a sinister anthem of racist bigotry with such offensive lyrics as “Now the ground is white,” which clearly suggests white supremacy to anyone who is so google-eyed crazy they wear their baseball cap backwards just in case someone should try to sneak up behind them. The very lyrics, “Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way,” constitute an obvious and vicious attack on the aspirations and dignity of a race of oppressed people whose suffering cries out so loudly and persistently that it is inexplicable how I managed to fall asleep before I even finished writing this sentence. 
Thus, &#8220;Jingle Bells&#8221; joins other foul expressions of Christmas wickedness like “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” That song recreated the age-old ritual of flirtation and seduction that has given both men and women some of the most pleasurable moments of their lives. It thereby angered feminists by reminding them how unfair it is that no one ever flirts with them because their scrunched-up faces and shrill falcon-like voices would shrivel the desire of a satyr, not to mention the fact that squeezing even fifteen seconds of desirable femininity out of those shrikes is barely worth the trouble of lighting their cigarettes, so who cares how cold it is, go home already.

Now, of course, I don’t mean to make fun of the ridiculous clowns who bring these matters to our attention. After all, it’s deeply important not to turn our eyes away from anything about this season that we can pretend is offensive. Otherwise, people might drift off into a state of complacent holiday cheer, humming merrily as they greet one another on the snowy streets with a reawakened sense of fellowship and well-being brought about by the knowledge that the savior of the world was born on Christmas Day to save us all from Satan’s power with his everlasting love and forgiveness. What a waste of our brief time on earth it would be to focus on that, when instead we could be dredging up centuries-old acts of unkindness that may or may not have been committed by people who, anyway, are now long dead — so they got theirs.
We must never allow ourselves to become so immersed in feelings of good will towards men that we miss the opportunity to poison the pleasure of seasonal merry-makers by twisting the facts until we can append some imaginary crime or other to yet another facet of what used to be the happiest season of the year. We must always remember that if we can manage to make even one person feel guilty for something he never even dreamed of doing, it will make us seem like virtuous culture warriors instead of the useless jerkwads we so obviously are.
So remember…. Even if someone just says, “Merry Christmas,” be sure to point out that that is not inclusive language, and it offends those people who don’t believe in Christ and thus cruelly reminds them of the lonely, tortured hell of godless eternity they will experience after death. Jingling all the way.

&#8220;Morning Joe&#8221; host Joe Scarborough laid into Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) on Monday, criticizing her defense of a video in which she and several others in her party had actively encouraged service members to refuse &#8220;unlawful&#8221; orders from President Donald Trump.
Scarborough&#8217;s issue was not the fact that Slotkin, a former CIA analyst — and several others who had served in the military — had made the video insinuating that Trump either had already or would soon issue unlawful orders and telling military service members that they had a responsibility to refuse them. He did not take issue with the fact that she was defending the video, but rather, he was upset that she&#8217;d been unable to answer a specific question about it to his satisfaction during a recent interview.

Scarborough was responding to Slotkin&#8217;s answer to host Martha Raddatz — on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;This Week&#8221; —  when she admitted that she didn&#8217;t actually know of any illegal orders that President Trump had given.
&#8220;I’m sorry, with all due respect, wrong answer. President of the United States, the commander-in-chief does have wide latitude, just does. And the Senate can take that up. But he has wide latitude on strikes. Ask Barack Obama on drone strikes. Ask George W. Bush on drone strikes,&#8221; Scarborough said, referencing the Trump administration&#8217;s actions against narco-terrorists.

&#8220;But where we know the president has said, I am going to give illegal orders to people in the military, is when he was on Air Force One coming back, I forget where he was coming back from, but he said, ‘I can send the Marines. I can send the Army. I can send the Air Force. I can send the Coast Guard into any city I want to control crime. And the courts can’t do anything about it.’ That’s illegal. It’s just illegal,&#8221; Scarborough continued, insisting that Trump had said he&#8217;d give illegal orders despite the fact that thus far, he had not done so.
&#8220;And so Democrats kind of need to – if the president has already said, I’m going to commit this illegal act, then I’m kind of surprised they don’t have the answer when they go on a Sunday show for that,&#8221; he complained.

Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews found himself on the receiving end of two real-time corrections on major issues on Tuesday.
The first occurred when Matthews, during an appearance on CNN, claimed that Republicans in the Senate would “logjam” a vote on the Epstein files in an effort to “obey” President Donald Trump. But when the network cut away to Capitol Hill, they learned that the Republican-led Senate planned a vote on the measure within hours.

“I think it’s awful that these people are obeying him,” Matthews said, suggesting that Republicans in the Senate were taking orders from President Trump on whether or not to advance the bill. “The Senate is going to do what it can to logjam this whole effort to get the truth out.”

The network cut away to congressional reporter Manu Raju on Capitol Hill: “Yeah, this is huge news. The Senate Majority Leader, John Thune, indicating that this bill just passed the House by a 427-to-1 vote, now could pass the Senate as soon as tonight. In fact, that is what he told reporters just moments ago, he said that it could move &#8216;very quickly.’”
Matthews also took a moment to comment on the fact that Mohammed Bin Salman — Saudi Arabia’s crown prince — had been in the Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump.
“And the idea of MBS, excuse me, the guy murdered somebody — a Washington Post reporter — and The Washington Post never mentioned today any problem with that,” Matthews complained. “They never editorialized against it. The murderer of our reporter is meeting in the White House today, but we’re not going to mention it today because it’s owned by a Republican Trump guy.”
Matthews had his claim debunked in a later segment by Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, who explained that he had written just such a piece and published it a day prior to Bin Salman’s arrival: “I’ve been aware for several weeks that the crown prince was coming.”

Ousted MSNBC host Joy Reid admitted that she would probably &#8220;freak out&#8221; if she saw a naked man while she was changing her clothes in a women&#8217;s locker room.
Reid was discussing the issue on Sunday&#8217;s episode of her &#8220;Reid This Reid That&#8221; podcast, and she referenced a recent incident that took place in California. Singer Tish Hyman went viral after she confronted a man in the women&#8217;s locker room at a Los Angeles gym — and she was kicked out because the man in question identified as transgender.
&#8220;I would be disturbed. I would be alarmed. I’m alarmed enough when I see a woman with her dangling boobies,&#8221; Reid was careful to qualify her statement. &#8220;If I saw a penis in the ladies’ locker room, I would freak out, too.&#8221;

Why is there somebody — a naked man — in this room?’” Reid said. &#8220;Because just the world we live in, just from a safety standpoint and just from a privacy standpoint … I can see why she would have gone and reported to management.”
&#8220;Because if she’s uncomfortable, does she not have the right to be at least uncomfortable with the situation?&#8221; Reid asked.
Former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines — who was forced at the 2022 NCAA championships to not only compete against a biological male but to change in the same locker rooms — was not terribly impressed with Reid&#8217;s sudden conversion.

Democrats followed big wins — albeit in the reliably blue states of Virginia and Maryland and the deep blue city of New York — with what could only be described as capitulation on the government shutdown as it stretched into its 40th day, as eight Democratic senators voted with Republicans to break the filibuster.
For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire normally would compile a short summary of what you may have missed. But with the shutdown driving discussions and an 11th-hour deal to break the stalemate, the real news rolled in a bit later than usual.
In the moments leading up to and immediately following the test vote — and then a final vote in the Senate — critics in the media and within their own party quickly began piling on the Democrats who chose putting an end to the suffering of their constituents over another day fighting for something Republicans were clearly unwilling to give.
CNN let the mask slip almost immediately, after weeks of largely giving cover to the Democrats, and conceded that their pet party was actually the driving force behind keeping the Capitol shuttered.

&#8220;Democrats are the ones that are not voting to fund the government,&#8221; he said on election night, adding immediately, &#8220;Now, I understand why they&#8217;re doing so, they&#8217;re doing so because of health care, and they want to fight and they want Republicans to negotiate, etc., etc.&#8221;
He went on to praise Democrats for sticking to &#8220;sharper&#8221; messaging and convincing voters that Republicans were actually the ones holding things up.
But Senator Angus King, an independent who caucuses with Democrats and had previously voted no on efforts to break the filibuster, said after casting his vote with Republicans that the messaging — however &#8220;sharp&#8221; — was just not working.

On MSNBC, a panel discussion laid out what was happening on Sunday evening – and immediately questioned what Democrats had actually won by keeping the government closed for nearly six weeks.

&#8220;Then there&#8217;s all this energy in the wake of the election on Tuesday,&#8221; Hylton continued, noting that even Trump had conceded that the shutdown was likely hurting Republicans in Tuesday&#8217;s major races. &#8220;[Trump was] acknowledging that he was on his back foot, and now here he is winning again? How did he do it?&#8221;
&#8220;The Democrats — I don&#8217;t understand how a democratic senator goes, &#8216;Wow, we won really big — let me cave now.&#8217; I don&#8217;t understand. That makes no sense to me,&#8221; another replied.

A panel of regular MSNBC hosts — including Lawrence O&#8217;Donnell and Rachel Maddow — spent some time during their election night recap questioning whether or not the ballroom President Donald Trump is building at the White House had been part of the reason Republicans fared so poorly in several high stakes elections.
The major elections in play were the New York City mayoral election, the New Jersey gubernatorial election, and several key elections in Virginia — and all of them were won handily by the Democrats (or the Democratic socialist, in the case of New York City) in those races. And according to O&#8217;Donnell, he&#8217;d heard from at least one voter who cited &#8220;the demolition&#8221; being done in the White House&#8217;s East Wing — to prepare for Trump&#8217;s ballroom plans — as his motivation for getting out to the polls.

&#8220;Rachel, I was struck by something Vaughn Hilliard reported from a voter in New Jersey, saying that this voter was out there today voting because of, quote, this is what Vaughn said, the phrase he used, &#8216;the White House demolition,'&#8221; Lawrence said. &#8220;Donald Trump tearing down the East Wing of the White House — that sent a voter to the polls in New Jersey. Surely it sent thousands of voters to polls all around the country.&#8221;
&#8220;And the mind reels at how many ways, if you&#8217;re a Republican candidate, Donald Trump can ruin your campaign any day of your campaign,&#8221; he added, clearly amused by his own assessment, and several others on the panel laughed as he continued. &#8220;Let&#8217;s just assume Donald Trump was determined to do this to the White House. No one in the Republican Party could say to him, &#8216;Could you wait until November 5th? Could you just — November 5th. Don&#8217;t do anything before then.'&#8221;

Vice President JD Vance responded to comments made by former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki about his wife, Usha, needing to be “saved” from him.
The VP has been in Israel all week discussing the ceasefire and hostage deal, and his wife has been with him. A reporter from Fox News asked Vance to comment on Psaki’s assertions, which made him scoff and then reply with his customary wit and candor. 
“I think it&#8217;s disgraceful,” he said, “But of course, the Second Lady can speak for herself. And I am very lucky to have a wonderful wife &#8230; I hope that my wife feels the same way about me … I&#8217;m very lucky to go on this journey with a very loving wife. We’re going to keep on serving the country together, and I&#8217;m honored to have Usha by my side on this trip in particular, but always.”

Psaki <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/msnbcs-jen-psaki-slammed-for-unhinged-attack-on-second-lady-usha-vance">made the remarks</a> on a recently released episode of the “I’ve Had It” podcast.
She said Vance is “scarier” than President Donald Trump and alluded to the idea of Usha being held hostage.

“I think the little Manchurian Candidate, JD Vance, wants to be president more than anything else,” Psaki said. “I always wonder what’s going on in the mind of his wife. Like, are you OK? Please blink four times. We’ll come over here. We’ll save you.”
Psaki continued, “And that he’s willing to do anything to get there. And your whole iteration you just outlined, I mean, he’s scarier in certain ways, in some ways. And he’s young and ambitious and agile in the sense that he’s a chameleon who makes himself whatever he thinks the audience wants to hear from him.”
The podcast episode’s description leaned into the same joke, “Usha Vance, please blink twice if you need help,” the caption said.
Social media users reacted strongly to the insinuations, with one person summing up the overall reactions perfectly.
“Nothing baffles the liberal women more than a happy marriage,” the commenter wrote.

NBC News cut 7% of its workforce ahead of the split that will separate NBC from sister network MSNBC, soon to be known only as &#8220;MSNOW.&#8221;
According to a <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/nbc-news-layoffs-number-versant-split/">report</a> from The Wrap, the terminations hit the dedicated teams &#8220;covering issues affecting black, Asian American, Latino and LGBTQ+ groups&#8221; hardest. Some 150 employees were reportedly laid off.
As The Wrap reported, the verticals that feature coverage about those issues (NBC BLK, NBC Asian America, NBC Latino, and NBC OUT) will still exist — and new stories will still be pursued and reported on — but the coverage will be spread out across the newsroom rather than provided by teams dedicated to those specific beats.
The cuts represent about 7% of the 2,000 staffers at the NBC News newsroom, and about 2% of the broader company that also includes several local stations owned by NBC outright in addition to Telemundo. A <a href="https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/nbc-news-layoffs-100-to-150-jobs-1236553614/">report</a> from Variety noted that the cuts could simply result in changing roles, as those who are being terminated will still have the option to apply for more than 100 different open positions across the news division.
The coming NBC split will also see its parent company, Comcast, spinning off other networks from the main news division — networks such as CNBC and USA Network will all fall under the same brand, Versant.
Other reports have also suggested that a similar fate — and a hefty round of layoffs — could be looming in the not-too-distant future for CBS News as well.
The Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/media/the-scythe-draws-near-cnns-overpaid-talent-brace-for-deep-cuts-amid-corporate-shakeup/">noted</a> over the summer that whether or not CNN faces more layoffs in the near future, it&#8217;s likely that some of the highest-paid personalities on the network could face pay cuts in the future. Among those mentioned most frequently were Anderson Cooper ($18 million annually), Jake Tapper ($7.5 million annually), and several others. Gayle King, who earns $13-15 million annually at CBS, was also mentioned as one who could potentially see her pay reduced.

Virginia Democrat Jay Jones, under fire for three-year-old texts in which he advocated the assassination of a political opponent, found no support on Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
Host Mika Brzezinski brought up the topic, noting that the messages were so disturbing she hesitated to read them on air. Co-hosts Jonathan Lemire and John Heilemann appeared to share her sentiment, expressing similar discomfort with the content.

“[The] text messages, horrible, I didn’t even want to read them out loud,” Brzezinski began. “How did the — I’m wondering how the text messages came to light?”

“Deep — deeply disturbing messages,” Lemire agreed, immediately and repeatedly insisting that condemnation of Jones’ texts had come from both sides of the aisle. “Messages that have been swiftly condemned across the political aisle. The Republicans have tried to tie this to the — Congresswoman Spanberger, the gubernatorial candidate, she did very quickly denounce them.”
Spanberger did issue a statement voicing her “disgust” over the messages, but she — and many other Democrats stopped short of calling on him to drop out of the race:

I made clear to Jay that he must fully take responsibility for his words. What I have also made clear is that as a candidate — and the next Governor of our Commonwealth, I will always condemn violent language in our politics.&#8221;</blockquote>
“But it&#8217;s unclear whether this attorney general candidate will stay in the race,” Lemire concluded. “I think there&#8217;s a growing sense that he probably should not. We heard from President Trump last night, but even some Democrat leaders, John Heilemann, have started to say, look, this is inappropriate, you can&#8217;t — and especially at a time right now with such concern about violent rhetoric and political violence — that this is just way beyond the line.”
“Who says that?” Brzezinski interjected.
Heilemann agreed with Lemire’s take, adding, “I would say, not to be too much on the high horse, it’s wildly inappropriate under any circumstances — today, tomorrow, ten years ago, six months ago — I think the pressure is going to be on Spanberger to — and for the whole of the party to ask this candidate to just quit the race because just — both because it&#8217;s the right thing and also the political splash back.”

The former &#8220;The View&#8221; cohost claimed that if Trump continued to implement his agenda, there would be no America left when he was finished.

O&#8217;Donnell began by arguing that Democrats should be more open to accepting former Trump voters who had &#8220;changed their minds&#8221; after seeing what they&#8217;d really voted for — although polling indicates that Trump voters largely approve of Trump&#8217;s performance across multiple issues.
&#8220;When people say, ‘I changed my mind,’ we have to say, ‘Welcome back to reality. Let’s all be Americans together.’ Right? Because what’s happening is not only happening to Democrats,” O’Donnell said. “It’s happening to everyone. And when the Medicaid cuts go in, old people are going to start to die, to die.”
