Former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) said over the weekend that he was &#8220;very concerned&#8221; for the safety of former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after President Donald Trump decided to pull his protective security detail despite threats that he faces from Iran.
Turner made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CBS News&#8217; &#8220;Face The Nation&#8221; with Margaret Brennan when asked if he would encourage Trump reconsider pulling the protective security details off of officials who served during his first term in office who face serious threats from Iran.
&#8220;Well, obviously, I&#8217;m very concerned for Mike Pompeo,&#8221; Turner said.
Turner said at a different point during the interview that when he was the chairman of the committee that he focused on national security, specifically &#8220;state actors and non-state actors&#8221; who were looking to harm the U.S.

According to a new <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/23/us/politics/trump-pompeo-security-iran.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, President Donald Trump has revoked the security details for his former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Pompeo’s senior policy adviser, Brian Hook, who also served as the U.S. Special Representative for Iran, and Trump’s former national security adviser, John Bolton.
All three men have been threatened by the theocratic regime of Iran, which blamed Pompeo and Hook for the assassination of Iranian terror master, Iran Revolutionary Guard commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
“God willing, we are looking to kill Trump [and] Pompeo … and military commanders who issued the order should be killed,” Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps aerospace force, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/iran-reissues-threat-kill-trump-pompeo-soleimani-death-announcing-long-range-cruise-missile" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in February 2023.
Pompeo, a staunch supporter of Trump during his first term, had both praised and criticized Trump after he left office, lauding Trump’s work on the southern border but <a href="https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/mike-pompeo-trump-fox-news-b2357298.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criticizing</a> him for supposedly mishandling classified documents and additional spending which raised the deficit.
Last August, a Pakistani national with what FBI Director Christopher Wray called “close ties to Iran” was arrested and charged with orchestrating a scheme to reportedly <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pakistani-iran-murder-plot-u-s-officials/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">assassinate</a> Trump as well as other government officials.
According to court documents, in April 2024, Asif Merchant, 46, who revealed he has a wife and children in both Iran and Pakistan, came to the U.S. after spending time in Iran. He contacted someone about his alleged scheme; that person, who became a confidential source (CS), then contacted the FBI. In early June in New York, Merchant met the CS and outlined his alleged plot to commit a series of assassinations in the U.S.

In November, federal law enforcement officials foiled another plan to assassinate then-President-elect Trump that was connected to Iran.
The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed an <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-murder-hire-and-related-charges-against-irgc-asset-and-two" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indictment</a> against multiple individuals who were involved in plots to murder an Iranian dissident, two Jewish Americans, and Trump on U.S. soil.
Prosecutors indicted Farhad Shakeri, 51, of Iran, on multiple charges, including murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, money laundering conspiracy, conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, and conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and sanctions against the Government of Iran.

I am unaccustomed to this level of optimism. The bottom line is: I&#8217;m optimistic because President Trump keeps making good decisions.
We were told Donald Trump was going to come into office and immediately staff up complete idiots around him. It’s almost as though those were myths, all untrue — though we were told that by the most intelligent people. As they said, Trump had fired people like General James Mattis. After all, Trump had been at odds with so many members of his prior administration, there would be no one left. He would be forced to dip into the bottom of the barrel, they said.
But thus far, I see precisely zero evidence that is the case. The people who are apparently doing the staffing on a wide variety of issues include people like the vice president of the United States elect, JD Vance. Trump-world insiders like Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Susie Wiles are on that team. Brian Hook, who is involved in foreign policy, is as well. In other words, the people who are going to go into the Trump administration are not going to be jokers. They are going to be very serious people with very serious portfolios.
Late yesterday, Donald Trump announced he would be tapping his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as the White House chief of staff. Wiles, a very serious person, is well-respected on all sides of the political spectrum inside the Republican Party. Everyone from Jeb Bush all the way to Donald Trump has endorsed Wiles as chief of staff.
She&#8217;s a very serious politico. She has worked not only with Trump, but with Rick Scott when he was governor of Florida and with Governor Ron DeSantis when he was running for governor of Florida. Then she went back into the Trump campaign. She is wily, savvy, and knife-sharp. She is an exceptionally solid political fighter.
The Wall Street Journal article covering Trump’s announcement of White House chief of staff, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/trump-taps-campaign-co-manager-susie-wiles-as-white-house-chief-of-staff-c95f93b3?mod=hp_lead_pos1">reads</a>, “Susie Wiles, who led Donald Trump’s presidential run, will become his White House chief of staff when he retakes the presidency next year, the campaign said Thursday, making her the first woman to hold that role in U.S. history.” Remember when, according to Mark Cuban, Trump wouldn&#8217;t surround himself with strong women? Yet Wiles is, indeed, a strong woman.
Trump said in <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/11/07/donald-trump-susie-wiles-chief-of-staff-00188346">a statement</a>, “Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns. Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.&#8221;

Wiles keeps her cards real close to the vest. She is incredibly savvy, and she is not the type of person who is going to take kindly to people who do not have Team Trump&#8217;s best interests at heart. So she is an excellent pick by President Trump. And again, she&#8217;s well respected on pretty much every side of the Republican political spectrum.
Now, the question as to how she negotiates in Congress is still open. Usually the chief of staff has a lot of congressional negotiations. The good news for her is that while she doesn&#8217;t have tons of experience at doing that — because again, she was campaign manager in 2016 and 2020 in part, and she didn&#8217;t really involve herself in legislative affairs — she will be negotiating with Mike Johnson in the House.
In the Senate, the Senate leadership battle is still wide open at this point. There&#8217;s a lot of speculation about who is going to take over as the Senate majority leader because Mitch McConnell has announced he&#8217;s going to step down. There are some rumors that Rick Scott, for example, is trying to run for it. There are more than rumors, he does want the Senate majority leadership position.
There are some members of the base who are very hot on Scott, so he&#8217;s a possibility. John Thune is also a very solid possibility. Most of the more established members of the U.S. Senate are probably going to back Thune or John Cornyn. Honestly, any of those people will be perfectly capable of negotiating with President Trump and will do a fine job in that role.
Meanwhile, President-elect Trump and his senior advisers are privately assembling short lists of candidates for top jobs in the incoming administration. Apparently, Trump&#8217;s transition team, according to the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/donald-trump-cabinet-transition-president-42989f5b?mod=hp_lead_pos1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wall Street Journal</a>, is being “led by co-chair Howard Lutnick, who is overseeing personnel” and “has put together spreadsheets with names for the former president to consider.”
Among the people who are being considered for national security adviser is Richard Grenell. We all know him as Trump&#8217;s former ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence. Grenell would do an amazing job in that role. The Wall Street Journal goes on: “Other potential candidates include Keith Kellogg, an octogenarian, retired three star Army general and former national security advisor to vice President Mike Pence; former Defense Department official Elbridge Colby; and Robert O’Brien, who served as the last of four national security advisers during Trump’s first term.”
Some of the people mentioned for secretary of the treasury include “Key Square Group founder Scott Bessent, and billionaire investor John Paulson.” A few of the possibilities mentioned for secretary of state are Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee, as well as Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. Both of those would be excellent picks.
Other potential candidates include O&#8217;Brien, Grenell, and former senior State Department official Brian Hook, who is largely seen as the person compiling lists on who precisely should go into the foreign policy establishment. Hook has been speaking publicly about what the administration&#8217;s Iran policy is, and it is already bearing fruit. They haven&#8217;t even taken office yet and action is already happening to bring down conflicts in the Middle East.
As far as secretary of defense, some of the names that have been thrown out are Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who Trump acknowledged in his victory speech in Florida Wednesday morning.
Republican Representative John Ratcliffe, who has served as Trump&#8217;s director of national intelligence, is being put forward as a candidate as head of the Department of Defense or CIA. Mike Waltz, a congressman from Florida, is being considered as a possible DOD leader. For Homeland Security, Chad Wolf’s and Tom Homan’s names are being mentioned, both of whom would be great. The bottom line is: All of these names would be not just acceptable, but also excellent.
Furthermore, the markets are picking up on this, and “Washington’s open for business,” as <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/11/07/trump-elon-musk-business-tax-cuts">Axios</a> puts it. Marc Andreessen, an investor who backed President Trump in this race, tweeted out this morning that he believes that we are going to be seeing unprecedented economic growth. He <a href="https://x.com/pmarca/status/1854768973306630479">says</a>, “America is an economic coiled spring. We should be growing at least 4% annually and ideally 6-8%+. Growth has been brutally suppressed since before I was born. But there is so much to build. And the payoff for all Americans will be incredible.”
That is the mood in the business community. As Axios reports, “Buckle up. President-elect Trump plans fast action on a business-friendly agenda of tax cuts, deregulation and expanded energy production, his advisers tell us.”

This all has a downward effect on inflation, because with more productivity comes more supply which then keeps up with demand; then, prices drop. Deregulation means more investment, it means economic growth, it means more innovation. “Trump plans to load his White House and Cabinet with business- and tech-friendly executives, and stretch the powers of the presidency to force quick changes,” Axios writes. “Trump advisers believe in retrospect that they wasted early opportunities in his first term” because they did not know how to staff.
This is the nice thing for Trump’s second term. They know exactly who they have to fire. Trump is going to take office with a triumvirate. He&#8217;ll have the House and the Senate. He&#8217;s going to fill his top ranks with actual business leaders. The courts and leaders are going to support him.
The people picking staff include Elon Musk, Marc Andreessen, David Sacks, and Joe Lonsdale. What a team that&#8217;s going to be. You want to talk about growing the economy? You want to talk about a productivity explosion? You want to talk about people who know how to build businesses and know how markets work?

The FBI is on the hunt for an Iranian intelligence operative who has been allegedly plotting to assassinate current and former U.S. government officials, including Mike Pompeo, the secretary of state under former President Donald Trump.
Last week, the Bureau’s Miami field office <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/terrorinfo/majid-dastjani-farahani" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a public alert as it sought information on Majid Dastjani Farahani, who is suspected of being a member of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security, Semafor <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/03/04/2024/fbi-hunts-for-suspected-iranian-assassin-targeting-trump-era-officials" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The FBI warned of Farahani, 42, in a Most Wanted notice on Friday, saying that he speaks Farsi, French, Spanish, and English and will often move between Iran and Venezuela.
According to the FBI, Farahani was recruiting “individuals for various operations in the United States, to include lethal targeting of current and former United States Government officials” as part of a revenge operation for the U.S. taking out Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani in 2020 under Trump and Pompeo.

Semafor reported that U.S. officials said Pompeo and former special envoy for Iran Brian Hook were given 24-hour security after the FBI warned of Farahani. In 2022, the Department of Justice indicted members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for an alleged plot to assassinate former National Security Advisor John Bolton, who also served under Trump.
Farahani is also accused of recruiting people to run “surveillance activities focused on religious sites, businesses, and other facilities in the United States.”
Soleimani was killed in a U.S. drone strike ordered by Trump in January 2020. The brutal Iranian general had been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American troops in Iraq, and the U.S. State Department <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/state-dept-iranian-general-killed-in-u-s-strike-responsible-for-17-of-american-deaths-in-iraq" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says</a> Soleimani was directly behind 17% of all U.S. personnel deaths during the Iraq War.
Shortly after Soleimani’s death, the top Iranian general and other officials <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/top-iranian-general-revenge-for-soleimani-death-to-happen-within-u-s-no-one-will-forget-what-we-do" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vowed</a> that Iran would get <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/iran-vows-revenge-for-general-killed-by-u-s-says-it-will-hit-those-responsible" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revenge</a> on the U.S. Iran’s volatility raised concerns again when Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists launched an attack on Israel on October 7, killing over 1,200 and taking hundreds hostage into the Gaza Strip. The IRGC <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/irans-guard-corps-hamas-oct-7-attack-was-revenge-for-killing-of-soleimani-in-2020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> two months after the terrorist attack on Israel that it was “one of the revenges” for the killing of Soleimani.
While Hamas denied it had the same reason as the IRGC for its 10/7 atrocities, Iran’s threats, and thirst for bloodshed following the death of its beloved general were heard clearly. Pompeo made the remarks during a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity on Thursday night after Hamas terrorists launched an unprecedented terrorist attack against Israel last month, murdering more than 1,400 people.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blasted President Biden after Biden stated in Vietnam that he didn’t “want to contain China.”
Speaking in Hanoi last Friday, Biden stated, “I am sincere about getting the relationship right. And one of the things that is going on now is China is beginning to change some of the rules of the game, in terms of trade and other issues. &#8230; And so, really, what this trip was about — it was less about containing China. I don’t want to contain China. I just want to make sure that we have a relationship with China that is on the up and up, squared away, everybody knows what it’s all about.”
“That’s just hopelessly naïve and something out of decades gone by,” Pompeo told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum. “The place that America finds itself is a direct result of Xi Jinping’s behavior. This isn’t a dislike for the Chinese people or dislike for the Chinese government per se; it is Xi Jinping’s aggression against America.”

In August 2022, Pompeo — who staunchly opposed Communist China during his tenure during the Trump administration — warned of entities controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) procuring American farmland with much of it located near U.S. military bases.
In May 2022, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) introduced the <a href="http://newhouse.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/newhouse.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/NEWHOU_063_xml.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act</a>, which would bar foreign nationals associated with the CCP from buying public or private agricultural land in the United States.
“China’s American agricultural land holdings have increased over tenfold in the last decade, and at the beginning of 2020, investments from China held $2 billion of American agricultural land,” Newhouse <a href="https://newhouse.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/newhouse-introduces-bill-block-china-purchasing-american-farmland" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>.
Pompeo tweeted, “CCP-controlled entities are now buying up American farmland, much of which is near U.S. military bases. Yet, our diplomats in China can’t even go to the grocery story [sic] without someone following them. We have to take this seriously.”

Pompeo did not give any indication on whether he will make an endorsement during the Republican Party primary.
&#8220;We will see how it plays out,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not about any one person. I want to find that person who can not only talk about the things that matter to every family in America, but who can actually build an organization, create a team, and deliver that for the American people. That&#8217;s what matters to me.”
&#8220;And when I figure out who that right person is, I will &#8212; like I have always done in my life, I will get behind them and do everything I can to help them,&#8221; he said.
Pompeo confirmed that he might endorse another candidate instead of the former president.
When asked about Trump&#8217;s repeated attacks on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and whether any Republican candidate can beat Trump, Pompeo responded: &#8220;I think the American people will sort this out.&#8221;
&#8220;I think Americans are thirsting for people making arguments, not just tweets. I think they&#8217;re looking for someone who can clearly articulate their vision for what parents ought to be doing to help their kids be successful in schools and how we take back crime from our streets and cities,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know if that will end up being President Trump that the American people choose, or if that&#8217;s who our party will choose to be its nominee.&#8221;

Former Secretary of State and former CIA Director Mike Pompeo said that Chinese President Xi Jinping is &#8220;watching for American weakness&#8221; during an interview Monday after an Air Force general warned in a memo that the U.S. is on a collision course with communist China.
Four-star Air Force General Mike Minihan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-general-predicts-war-with-china-by-2025-i-hope-i-am-wrong" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a memo last week that believes that the U.S. will be in an all-out war with China in the next couple of years.
“I hope I am wrong. My gut tells me we will fight in 2025,” he wrote. “Xi secured his third term and set his war council in October 2022. Taiwan’s presidential elections are in 2024 and will offer Xi a reason. United States’ presidential elections are in 2024 and will offer Xi a distracted America. Xi’s team, reason, and opportunity are all aligned for 2025.”
Minihan said that his top priority was ingraining the fact that &#8220;unrepentant lethality matters most&#8221; in the minds of the 50,000 service members that he leads.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) said Sunday that the odds of a conflict with China by 2025 “are very high.”
“I hope he’s wrong &#8230;” McCaul said. “I think he’s right, though, unfortunately.”
“We have to be prepared for this,” McCaul said. “And it could happen … as long as Biden is in office — projecting weakness as he did with Afghanistan that led to Putin invading Ukraine — that the odds are very high we could see a conflict with China and Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific.”
Rep. Adam Smith, the ranking Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/jan/29/top-house-democrat-adam-smith-criticizes-generals-/">claimed</a> that the possibility that the U.S. would end up in a war with China was “highly unlikely.”
“We have a very dangerous situation in China, but I think generals need to be very cautious about saying, ‘We’re going to war. It’s inevitable,’” he claimed.

Pompeo isn&#8217;t the first intelligence leader in the Trump administration to accuse Schiff of leaking classified information. In January 2021, former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell claimed Schiff and his team <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/grenell-schiff-classified-information" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;regularly&#8221; leaked</a> classified information.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) suggested to conservative commentator Lisa Boothe in April 2021 that Schiff <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/tom-cotton-adam-schiff-potential-source-russian-bounties" target="_blank" rel="noopener">could be a source for dubious reports</a> on Russia offering bounties to Afghan militants to kill U.S. troops. Schiff spokesman Patrick Boland shot back with a brief response to <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/tom-cotton-adam-schiff-potential-source-russian-bounties" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Washington Examiner</a> at the time, &#8220;Yet another false and baseless claim by Tom Cotton — you would think he would know better by now.&#8221;
McCarthy kicked Schiff, along with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), from the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. McCarthy had long accused Schiff of being a repeat liar, particularly with investigations related to former President Donald Trump. During his interview with Fox News, Pompeo also called Schiff a liar and praised McCarthy for removing him from the panel.
Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) nominated Schiff to the committee over the weekend, calling him &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democratic-leader-picks-schiff-and-swalwell-for-intel-panel-in-defiance-of-mccarthy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">eminently qualified</a>.&#8221; After he was blocked, Schiff responded by claiming McCarthy&#8217;s move was &#8220;petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump.&#8221;
Also on Tuesday, Schiff talked about how he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/schiff-claims-he-never-took-classified-docs-home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">too &#8220;paranoid&#8221;</a> to take any classified information to his house while serving on the House Intelligence Committee. &#8220;This is what’s so astounding, I think, for all of us on the Intelligence Committee. I never take classified documents to my house,&#8221; Schiff told MSNBC&#8217;s Andrea Mitchell, who asked if he had taken any records home. &#8220;I don’t know any reason why people would,&#8221; Schiff added.
The conversation happened as it was revealed about a dozen documents marked classified were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-classified-documents-found-at-former-vp-mike-pences-home-in-indiana" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found at former Vice President Mike Pence’s home</a> in Indiana and turned over to the FBI. The Justice Department already appointed two separate special counsels to investigate former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden for their handling of classified materials stored in their residences and offices.
