During a recent visit to Ukraine, I had the privilege of addressing the National Prayer Breakfast and events commemorating the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the former Soviet Union, and I was deeply moved by the faith and resolve of their people.
Traveling by plane and a dead-of-night train ride from Poland, one might have expected to find a nation weary after more than four years of Putin’s brutal and bloody war and the daily pummeling of their capital city by the Russian war machine in the days before we arrived.
Instead, on my third visit since the outset of the war in 2022, I found a Ukrainian people hardened and even more determined to win a victory for freedom no matter the odds.
While some Americans have grown callous to grim headlines describing an unmoving and grinding stalemate, President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people have only become more resolved. With many of the loudest and least informed voices in our country on the Left and the Right arguing that Ukraine’s cause is hopeless or that the time has come to negotiate away its future, nothing I saw in Kyiv last week supports that conclusion.
By every measure that truly matters, Ukraine is winning this war. Ukraine remains free. Its government stands. Its soldiers have taken the fight directly into the heart of Russia with unprecedented drone warfare. Its people are unbowed and refuse to surrender. And the blue and yellow flag still flies defiantly over Kyiv.
The Ukrainian people are not asking the free world to fight their war. They are fighting it themselves, through extraordinary courage and sacrifice. They only ask of the free world: that America and our allies continue providing the support they need to repel Putin’s unprovoked invasion and return his aspirations for a new Russian empire to the ash heap of history.
Thirty-five years ago, the Soviet Union collapsed beneath the weight of Communism and its own corruption. The Iron Curtain fell, and captive nations like Ukraine reclaimed their freedom and embraced the Free World, unshackled from the chains of Communism.
Today, Vladimir Putin is trying to reverse history&#8217;s verdict. His invasion is not merely another territorial dispute between neighboring states. It is an attempt to resurrect an empire that deserved to die. Like the Soviet despots before him, Putin believes he can erase a distinct nation, language, culture, and people through fear and violence.
He cannot.
Vladimir Putin set out to conquer Ukraine in days, topple its democratically elected government, install a puppet regime, extinguish Ukrainian independence, and break the proud Ukrainian people. More than four years later, he has accomplished none of those objectives.
Russia has paid an enormous price in blood, treasure, and international isolation simply to gain small pieces of territory it cannot hold without constant reinforcement. That is not what victory looks like.
Unable to break Ukraine’s determination on the battlefield, the Kremlin has increasingly turned to terror from the skies, targeting innocent children and civilians. In recent days, Russia has unleashed wave after desperate wave of long-range drones and missiles against Kyiv and other civilian population centers. More than 1,500 attack drones were launched over just four days, as the Kremlin struggles in vain to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people.
The price of stopping dictators always rises when free nations hesitate. Putin will either be stopped in Ukraine or further west. The choice is ours, not his.
Ronald Reagan understood this when he warned, “No Western nation, including the United States, can hope to win its own battle for freedom and survival by sacrificing brave comrades to the politics of international expediency.”
For America and her allies, supporting Ukraine is not an act of charity. Giving Ukraine the means to defeat and repel the Russian war machine serves the vital national interests of the United States of America.
Every dollar invested in helping Ukrainians defeat Russian aggression today reduces the likelihood that American servicemen and women will one day have to confront that aggression themselves under our NATO commitments. This investment also rebuilds our own industrial base, providing jobs and ensuring our own security as the world becomes an increasingly dangerous place.
And more must be done right now.
Congress should act without delay to pass the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act. Every additional sanction further isolates the Kremlin, weakens Putin’s ability to finance his war machine, and brings Ukraine one step closer to justice, peace, and victory.
Congress must also ensure that Ukraine continues to receive the military resources it needs to defend its people, protect its skies, and finish this fight.
Thirty-five years ago, Ukrainians reclaimed their freedom from one empire. Today they are ensuring that the dead empire is never resurrected.
Every generation will be tasked to defend freedom. This generation of Ukrainians has done so with extraordinary courage. They deserve more than our admiration. With the steadfast support of every free nation on earth and the arsenal of democracy, Ukraine can win a victory for freedom, for their people, and for freedom-loving people around the world.

Last month, Karen and I welcomed our sixth grandchild — a beautiful baby girl — into our family and into the world. Looking into her big blue eyes, we are filled with an inexpressible joy for another precious gift from God.
But holding her in my arms also makes me think about the country she and all our grandchildren will inherit.
I remain profoundly optimistic about our nation’s future. America is still the freest and most prosperous nation in the history of the world. Yet I am deeply concerned by one troubling development: ideas that history once discredited are finding new life among young Americans and an increasingly influential place within today’s Democratic Party.
I was born in 1959, two years after the Soviet Union launched Sputnik into orbit and the Cold War entered one of its most dangerous chapters. My generation grew up practicing duck-and-cover drills in case of nuclear attack while half of Europe lived behind the Iron Curtain. We understood that freedom was neither inevitable nor free.
I watched America meet the Soviet threat with courage and confidence. From President John F. Kennedy’s declaration that we would “<a href="https://www.jfklibrary.org/archives/other-resources/john-f-kennedy-speeches/inaugural-address-19610120">pay any price</a>” for liberty to President Ronald Reagan’s <a href="https://civicsforlife.org/ronald-reagan-berlin-wall-speech/?civicsforlife.org/community&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_campaign=CFL+App+2026&amp;utm_source=adwords&amp;utm_medium=ppc&amp;hsa_acc=2833943392&amp;hsa_cam=23485849150&amp;hsa_grp=&amp;hsa_ad=&amp;hsa_src=x&amp;hsa_tgt=&amp;hsa_kw=&amp;hsa_mt=&amp;hsa_net=adwords&amp;hsa_ver=3&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=23481209192&amp;gbraid=0AAAAACWbQCiWlYU7J2wI0OGnAg5IWxAla&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwguLSBhDLARIsAH-yPrF-SchgJYu1G7KOXM_T9Q1mkmTWinVUTcTOnarEk2gOqXzV71FAsIwaAp4zEALw_wcB">command</a> that Mikhail Gorbachev “tear down this wall,” presidents of both parties understood the moral stakes of confronting communism.
Communism ultimately collapsed because it denied the most essential of truths: our rights come not from government, but from God. When government claims ultimate authority over the individual, freedom inevitably gives way to coercion.
Communism’s record of death and destruction is carved into human history.
Josef Stalin’s forced collectivization starved millions, while millions more met death in the Soviet gulags. Mao Zedong’s Great Leap Forward produced the deadliest famine in recorded history, killing some 50 million people.
Castro imprisoned dissidents while generations of Cubans fled in search of freedom.
Hugo Chávez transformed one of Latin America’s wealthiest countries into an unmitigated economic and humanitarian disaster. Today, Nicaragua’s Marxist dictator Daniel Ortega openly declares there will be “no more elections.”
This is the inevitable outcome of socialism. Yet, despite the clear lessons of history, socialism is finding an audience among the American Left.
Far-Left candidates are gaining ground, winning elections, and shaping the direction of the Democratic Party. Politicians who once would have been dismissed as ideological outliers are increasingly treated as the party’s rising stars. In New York City, Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) standard-bearer and Mayor Zohran Mamdani has publicly endorsed “<a href="https://www.hoover.org/research/look-mamdanis-economic-ideas">seizing the means of production</a>.” In Michigan, Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed — backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — has the Democratic establishment on the ropes. Across the country, progressive candidates are aggressively challenging longtime Democratic incumbents, while many of the party’s traditional moderates have retreated, accommodated, or simply lost influence.
The success of these candidates has come from selling government as the cure for every hardship to a generation that never learned the truth about communism and socialism.
DSA’s <a href="https://program.dsausa.org/">national program</a>, which declares capitalism a failure and states that “complete victory will require building a new society from the ground up,” promises a utopian socialist future without bills for “food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation.”
Of course, they conveniently omit that bills do not disappear. Government can pay them only by seizing the payment from someone else.
As government acquires the power to provide everything, it acquires the power to decide everything.
Conservatism begins with a different understanding. We believe every man, woman, and child is endowed by our Creator with rights that no government gave and no government may rightfully take away. Government exists to protect those rights, and to preserve the conditions for families, churches, communities, and free citizens to flourish.
That conviction has produced results no central planner could match. Free enterprise has lifted billions from poverty, unleashed innovation that has improved countless lives, and made America a beacon of hope for generations.
There is a bitter irony in socialism’s renewed appeal. America has been so successful that many young people can scarcely imagine the misery that would result from its absence. They never waited in a bread line, feared a knock on their door in the middle of the night, or wondered whether speaking their minds might cost them their freedom. They inherited liberty without having witnessed the price that previous generations paid to preserve it.
When I think about my newest grandchild, I pray she inherits an America where faith remains free, where honest work is rewarded, and where government remembers that it serves the American people — not the other way around.
My generation watched communism lose its claim on the world because free people stood firm against it. This generation must now show the same confidence in the enduring truths that made America exceptional.
If we do, our grandchildren will inherit not merely a more prosperous nation, but a freer one.
That is the inheritance they deserve. And it is our responsibility to preserve it.

Former Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-pence" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Pence&#8217;s</a> organization, Advancing American Freedom, is urging senators to vote against confirming Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over his stance on abortion.
In a letter first obtained by The Daily Wire, Advancing American Freedom lays out five detailed questions for Donald Trump&#8217;s nominee to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). It points out that Kennedy <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-wins-praise-from-pro-life-senators-on-capitol-hill">formerly said</a> that a woman should have the right to abort her unborn baby, and the government shouldn&#8217;t be involved, &#8220;even if [the baby] is full term.&#8221; Such a position is &#8220;completely out of step with the strong, pro-life record of the first Trump Administration,&#8221; wrote AAF President Tim Chapman and Chairman of the Board Marc Short.
&#8220;While RFK Jr. has made certain overtures to pro-life leaders that he would be mindful of their concerns at HHS, there is little reason for confidence at this time,&#8221; they continued. &#8220;There are hundreds of decisions made every day at HHS that either lead our nation toward a respect for life or away from it—decisions about federal funding for Planned Parenthood, regulations on the abortion pill (currently accounting for three out of every five abortions), insurance coverage of abortion, and more.&#8221;
A number of pro-life leaders and lawmakers who spoke with The Daily Wire before Christmas had also expressed concerns about Kennedy&#8217;s record on abortion, but Kennedy allayed many of their fears when he spoke with Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri on December 17.  Hawley shared that Kennedy promised to reinstate Trump’s pro-life policies at HHS, including reinstating the Mexico City Policy, which blocks federal funds from going to NGOs that promote abortion; ending taxpayer funding for abortions domestically; and reinstating the bar on Title X funds going to organizations that promote abortion.
Kennedy also reportedly promised Hawley that “all of his deputies at HHS would be pro-life” and that he would “reinstate conscience protections for healthcare providers”— two major points of concern for pro-lifers who spoke with The Daily Wire.
“He told me he believes there are far too many abortions in the U.S. and that we cannot be the moral leader of the free world with abortion rates so high,” Hawley said.
AAF still has concerns, however.

&#8220;Whatever the merits of RFK Jr’s Make America Healthy Again initiative—indeed, whatever other qualities a nominee might possess—an HHS Secretary must have a firm commitment to protect unborn children, or else bend under the pressure and pushback surrounding these daily, critical decisions,&#8221; their letter continued. &#8220;We strongly encourage you to reject the nomination of any pro-abortion nominees to serve at HHS. RFK Jr., as well as any other nominated HHS Secretary, must be able to provide satisfactory answers to the list of important pro-life questions attached to this letter. The pro-life movement has a strong bench of courageous pro-life leaders who are willing to serve the American people as the head of HHS.&#8221;

Pence&#8217;s organization wants Kennedy to answer a number of questions clarifying his views on abortion. The first of these is: &#8220;When do you believe that life should be protected?&#8221; AAF would also like Kennedy to state at what gestational age or level of development he thinks unborn children should be protected by the federal government, and whether there are any extenuating circumstances in which he believes that unborn children should not be protected.
AAF also wants Kennedy to address his stances on abortion pills, responsible for dozens of deaths of mothers across the United States, asking Kennedy to commit to reinstating the safeguards on abortion drugs put in place by former President Bill Clinton.
The letter also requests that he commit to &#8220;taking every step possible&#8221; to stop taxpayer funding of abortions via Title X, Medicaid reimbursements, and other grants and contracts, as well as protecting the conscience rights of Americans under the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division within HHS&#8217; Office for Civil Rights— two promises Kennedy appears to have already made to Hawley.
AAF also pushes for Kennedy to commit to requiring states to collect and report abortion data, given that many states don&#8217;t report abortion data, allowing for late-term abortions or even born alive abortions to go undetected.
In June 2024, after a variety of statements on the unborn, Kennedy shared that he saw “emerging consensus” on abortion, arguing “that abortion should be legal up until a certain number of weeks, and restricted thereafter,” and pointing out that most Americans agree that there should be restrictions on abortions at some point. He also said that “every abortion is a tragedy,” and highlighted his &#8216;<a href="https://www.mahanow.org/abortion">More Choices, More Life</a>&#8216; policy.
And in meetings with senators before Christmas, he repeatedly said that he would abide by Trump&#8217;s pro-life policies.
“I said, ‘Where’s your position? I just gotta know, because you’ve been all over the map on it,'&#8221; Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma shared with The Daily Wire in December as he discussed his meeting with Kennedy.
Kennedy responded, according to Mullin, “I think there’s too many abortions in the world, let’s just start there. It’s not that I don’t value life, I value life, I just look at it a little bit different in certain circumstances, what we’ve been through as a family.”
“Where does that put you when it comes to pro-life?” Mullin questioned Kennedy, adding of the Trump nominee: “He goes: ‘I’m serving at the will of the President of the United States, and it’s his policies that I will put forth. And so we may not agree on every single issue, but we agree 100%, we shouldn’t even be having abortions in this world anyways. But my policies are not what I’m pushing forward, it’s the president’s, and I think the country knows where the president is on that, and so therefore, that’s my position.”
“I’m good with that,” Mullin told The Daily Wire. “If he’s willing to say that, I have no problems with him becoming Secretary of HHS. And I will support him completely, even as passionate and as pro-life as my wife and my family and I are, I believe Bobby is still the right person for this position.”
Trump previously headed the most pro-life administration in United States history, and is the president responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade. Though he largely avoided discussing abortion throughout the 2024 campaign season, articulating clearly that he viewed the topic as politically toxic, advocates are hopeful that Trump will continue to promote pro-life policy throughout his next administration.
While some on the Right continue to be fearful of Kennedy as head of HHS, a position that could have a massive influence on the protection of the unborn in the United States (or lack thereof), conservatives like Brian Burch, the head of Catholic Vote and Trump&#8217;s new choice for Ambassador to the Holy See, believe Kennedy is slowly finding his way on abortion. Burch told The Daily Wire in December that Kennedy is working through the question of abortion, &#8220;and how to reconcile that with his other beliefs around the ways in which the human person has been commoditized by Big Pharma, Big Government, and Big Tech.”
“He’s publicly now said that he opposes late term abortion, he recognizes there is not a public consensus around how and where to regulate abortion, and he would like to work in innovative ways to reduce the number of abortions and helping women to choose life,” Burch said at the time. “He’s said that publicly, he’s said that to me personally &#8230; I’m confident that pro-life advocates can help him to understand that this indeed is something that does rise to the level of requiring the state to protect life and women.”

Former Vice President Mike Pence&#8217;s group Advancing American Freedom (AAF), along with multiple religious leaders and pro-life advocates, said they are disappointed with what they describe as watered-down language on abortion in the 2024 Republican platform. AAF, religious leaders, and pro-life advocates sent a letter to party delegates on Friday, asking them to &#8220;restore the Republican Party&#8217;s strong pro-life platform.&#8221;
The <a href="https://advancingamericanfreedom.com/aaf-rnc-pro-life-letter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a>, first <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/07/12/rnc-pro-life-abortion-platform/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on by The Daily Caller, was written in response to the draft of the RNC&#8217;s 2024 platform, which was released on Monday. The new GOP platform focuses on securing the border, deporting illegal immigrants, and ending inflation, among a list of other priorities, but makes a noticeable change in its language compared to the last version regarding abortion, an issue that Democrats have successfully campaigned on since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June of 2022.
&#8220;We proudly stand for families and Life. We believe that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that no person can be denied Life or Liberty without Due Process, and that the States are, therefore, free to pass Laws protecting those Rights,&#8221; the <a href="https://cdn.nucleusfiles.com/be/beb1a388-1d88-4389-a67d-c1e2d7f8bedf/2024-gop-platform-july-7-final.pdf?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=ncl_amplify&amp;utm_campaign=240708-2024_gop_platform_make_america_great_again&amp;utm_content=ncl-4NsN8UE5x2&amp;_nlid=4NsN8UE5x2&amp;_nhids=8lYVCzzXrd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">draft</a> of the new platform states. &#8220;After 51 years, because of us, that power has been given to the States and to a vote of the People. We will oppose Late Term Abortion, while supporting mothers and policies that advance Prenatal Care, access to Birth Control, and IVF (fertility treatments).&#8221;
The 2016 RNC <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20170204071904/https://prod-cdn-static.gop.com/media/documents/DRAFT_12_FINAL[1]-ben_1468872234.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">platform</a> called for specific federal policy positions on abortion, such as &#8220;not fund[ing] or subsidize[ing] healthcare that includes abortion coverage&#8221; and calling on Congress to pass pro-life legislation. The GOP kept the same platform for the 2020 election.
In response to the new RNC platform, AAF, which was founded by Pence in 2021, wrote, &#8220;For the first time in decades, the Republican Platform retreats on life. Pro-life Americans are rightly outraged and gravely concerned. As drafted, the platform removes long-standing Republican promises on life, from prohibiting taxpayer funding for abortion to a Constitutional amendment to specific protections for unborn babies.&#8221;
&#8220;Since the Reagan Revolution, the party has spoken with an unambiguous voice – Republicans stand for life. Today, that promise has been watered down and ultimately compromised,&#8221; AAF&#8217;s letter continues. &#8220;As you gather in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, the eyes of conservatives across America are upon you. As delegates, ensuring a strong platform is your responsibility. You are the grassroots conservative leaders, entrusted by the conservatives of your states, to represent their values at the national level. This is the last opportunity to restore the Republican Party’s strong pro-life platform.&#8221;
The letter was signed by March for Life Action President Jeanne Mancini, Live Action President Lila Rose, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Albert Mohler, Jr., Southern Baptist Convention President Clint Pressley, and Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission President Brent Leatherwood, among others.
Pence personally blasted the new RNC platform&#8217;s language on abortion, <a href="https://advancingamericanfreedom.com/vice-president-pence-on-rnc-platform-a-profound-disappointment-to-pro-life-republicans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">calling</a> it &#8220;a profound disappointment to the millions of pro-life Republicans that have always looked to the Republican Party to stand for life.&#8221;
Much of the RNC platform parrots talking points made by former President Donald Trump throughout his 2024 campaign. Trump has spoken multiple times on the issue of abortion and has criticized conservative state laws on abortion, such as Arizona&#8217;s abortion ban and Florida&#8217;s heartbeat law. The former president continues to tout his role in the Supreme Court&#8217;s overturning of Roe v. Wade and said abortion laws should be left up to the states.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), a staunch Trump supporter who chaired the RNC platform committee, defended its language on abortion, telling <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/07/12/us-news/gop-platform-chair-says-of-course-republicans-are-a-pro-life-party-reveals-trumps-role/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Post</a> on Friday, “Of course, Republicans are a pro-life party. We are always going to be a pro-life party, and the document affirms that we are a pro-life party.”
“Roe was overturned by the Dobbs decision [in June 2022], which sends it back to the states and the people and as the platform says, the states are there to do restrictions and regulations on those practices,” Blackburn added.
GOP delegates will vote on the RNC platform at the party&#8217;s convention next week in Milwaukee.

Former Vice President Mike Pence said this week that Israel should eliminate Hamas&#8217; last stronghold inside Gaza by invading the city of Rafah and terminating the terrorist group&#8217;s remaining fighters.
Pence made the remarks while speaking Monday night at the Hudson Institute’s annual Hertog Forum.
The remarks come as Democrats have called for a cease-fire, and some Republicans have advocated for more isolationist foreign policy positions in recent years.
“Whatever position the current administration or voices in my own party take, here’s the reality: Israel has no choice but to invade Rafah and to hunt down and destroy Hamas once and for all,” Pence said. “The war should end when Israel’s military goals are achieved and every hostage is home and not a moment sooner. And I believe the American people will stand with Israel in that fight.”

Pence served as vice president for four years under Trump. They ran together in 2020 seeking a second term but were defeated by Biden.
This election cycle, Pence ran for the White House and in August <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pence-says-sign-gop-pledge-make-debate-stage-more-than-happy-meet-criteria" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he would sign the Republican National Committee&#8217;s loyalty pledge vowing to support the GOP&#8217;s eventual presidential nominee. Former Vice President Mike Pence said during an interview over the weekend that being in Israel to learn about what happened on October 7 opened his eyes to see that it was not simply a terrorist attack but a full-scale &#8220;terrorist invasion.&#8221;
Pence, who was in Tel Aviv, made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; with Jake Tapper when asked about his trip to Israel.
&#8220;One of the things I learned as we visited Sderot, where the terrorists literally took over the police station and murdered people in the streets, is that this was not simply a terrorist attack, but I believe it was a terrorist invasion,&#8221; Pence said.
&#8220;I mean, what I learned in our briefings in the south was that that fence line separating Israel from Gaza was breached in more than 90 different places simultaneously, paving the way for some 3,000 terrorists, heavily armed, to move into Israel,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And, in fact, the briefings I received pointed out that, actually, the terrorists had sufficient armaments and supplies to literally march all the way here to Tel Aviv, all the way to Jerusalem. But, for the heroic efforts of police, IDF forces, and, frankly, courageous citizens, they were stopped from doing that.&#8221;
&#8220;So I really believe that what Israel is doing in Gaza today is absolutely essential,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;It is a response to an invasion that was launched with the intention of beginning the process of destroying the Jewish state of Israel. And I really do believe that this is a moment where America needs to speak with one voice that we will stand with Israel today and tomorrow and every day until they have won outright this fight and eliminated the threat of Hamas.&#8221;

In his speech, Pence told the crowd it was not his time to lead the country but said he would “never leave the fight for conservative values.” He did not make an endorsement but called on Republicans to stay away from the “siren song of populism.”
&#8220;We always knew this would be an uphill battle, but I have no regrets,” Pence <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mike-pence-suspends-2024-presidential-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the crowd. “The only thing that would have been harder than coming up short would have been if we&#8217;d never tried at all.&#8221;

According to the RealClearPolitics <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/us/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">average</a> of polls, Pence’s polling average was 3.5%, well behind Trump’s average of 59.1%. He was polling in fifth place, behind Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. 
Trump’s call for Pence’s endorsement came during his second speech in Las Vegas on Saturday – he spoke at the Republican Jewish Coalition gathering shortly after Pence but did not address his former VP&#8217;s campaign suspension during the appearance. DeSantis spoke immediately after Pence and also did not address the former VP’s comments, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mike-pence-suspends-2024-presidential-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox News, though he did issue a statement later.  
Pence served as vice president from 2017 to 2021 under Trump. Leading up to the events of January 6, 2021, their relationship appeared to strain, and both Trump and Pence have since taken shots at each other. 
In Trump&#8217;s speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition, he said that &#8220;everybody that leaves&#8221; the race was endorsing him, referring to conservative talk radio host Larry Elder and Michigan businessman Perry Johnson. Elder <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/larry-elder-suspends-presidential-campaign-endorses-trump-its-time-to-unite" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsed</a> Trump after suspending his presidential campaign just days ago, saying that Trump&#8217;s “leadership has been instrumental in advancing conservative, America-first principles.” 
Johnson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/perry-johnson-endorses-trump-after-suspending-2024-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dropped</a> out of the race two weeks ago. He endorsed Trump last week, saying he is the only candidate who can “provide a solution to our nation’s economic, foreign policy and social crises, and most importantly, beat Joe Biden at the ballot box.”

Pence, who is also a former U.S. congressman and governor of Indiana, formally announced his campaign for president in June. Pence qualified for the first two Republican debates, but failed to gain traction in a large field of candidates.

Pence made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Kristen Welker on NBC News&#8217;s &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; when asked about additional funding that the White House is trying to get passed through Congress to deal with multiple overseas conflicts.
&#8220;If the world knows nothing else, the world needs to know this: America stands with Israel,&#8221; he said. &#8220;What happened two weeks ago was the most brutal assault on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. And we need to stand with Israel as they prepare to do what needs to be done, which is going to require a ground invasion. They&#8217;re going to have to hunt down and destroy Hamas once and for all. And there&#8217;s going to be hardship. There&#8217;s going to be difficulty.&#8221;
The Republican presidential candidate said that &#8220;American clarity and leadership&#8221; was more important now than ever before.
This is &#8220;what happens after a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s also what happens after two years of appeasement by President Biden with Iran. And I really do believe it&#8217;s also what happens when voices in my own party have been signaling retreat from the war raging in – in Ukraine, and even one candidate for president, Vivek Ramaswamy, recently was sounding the retreat in support for Israel.&#8221;
&#8220;I mean, it was about a month ago Vivek Ramaswamy actually said that we wouldn&#8217;t send American armed forces into harm&#8217;s way if Iran attacked Israel,&#8221; Pence later added. &#8220;Look, there&#8217;s that old Bible verse that says, &#8216;If the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will know to get ready for battle?&#8217; I really believe, in this moment, America has to send a clear call that we will stand with Israel every step of the way as they do what needs to be done.
