Likely Republican victories in the 2022 midterm elections mean that “the apocalypse is before us” and that parents’ opposition to Critical Race Theory reveals that “the integral part of an American educational system is to attack the intelligence of black kids,” said Michael Eric Dyson, a frequent MSNBC and CNN commentator, on Monday.
Tiffany Cross elicited the comments while guest hosting “The ReidOut” on MSNBC. “We’ve seen countless warnings that democracy is in danger,” she said, warning that Republicans would replicate the successful strategy of campaigning against CRT.
“This is a prelude to the kiss-off of American democracy,” said Dyson. “The apocalypse is before us. We speak in these apocalyptic terms; people call us exaggerators. ‘Oh my God, why don’t you stop over-responding?’”
Complaints that the filibuster and the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-the-virginia-governors-race-was-won">election of Republicans like Virginia Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin</a> pose existential threats to freedom are rejected by “people who are not used to being shat upon,” said Dyson, an ordained minister.
Cross also asked Dyson, a professor of African-American studies at Vanderbilt University, to explain the controversial, quasi-Marxist ideology of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-is-critical-race-theory-breaking-down-the-ideology-thats-hitting-schools-across-the-country">Critical Race Theory</a> to her “non-melanated brothers and sisters” who oppose it.
“The truth is, they&#8217;re more <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idx3GSL2KWs">down with O.P.P.</a> than they are with CRT. They don&#8217;t even know what it is. They can&#8217;t even define it. They can&#8217;t even speak about it — Other People&#8217;s Politics, in this case,” Dyson said.
His statement is a familiar one. HBO’s Bill Maher dismantled the same argument from Dyson last month, after Dyson attacked “parents who were spooked by Critical Race Theory, none of whom can define it; when you ask them what it is, they don’t know.” As The Daily Wire’s Hank Berrien <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disingenuous-bill-maher-slams-leftist-prof-sneering-parents-spooked-by-critical-race-theory">reported</a>, Maher responded:

“Like what?” Dyson sneered.
“Like separating children by race and describing them as either oppressed or oppressor. I mean, there are children coming home who feel traumatized by this. That‘s what parents are objecting to,” Maher answered.</blockquote>
“Ain’t nobody teaching Critical Race Theory in kindergarten, or fifth grade or sixth grade,” Dyson claimed on Monday, arguing that “it is a law school theory.” But public schools are teaching young children “to be skeptical about the default position of whiteness in American education,” he said. White students “are hungry” for CRT, he claimed. CRT is resisted by “people who are not used to seeing black people be the indices, the index, the measure of who are as a nation,” Dyson said.

“We know that the integral part of an American educational system is to attack the intelligence of black kids,” Dyson asserted, adding that the racist structures of America mean black students face “getting kicked out of school at 4” years old and “being overpoliced by overzealous guardians of our safety.”
While Dyson has spent years accusing “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michael-eric-dyson-vicious-police-america-hank-berrien">vicious police forces of America</a>” of having “victimized” the black community, a Gallup <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/316571/black-americans-police-retain-local-presence.aspx">poll</a> released at the height of the Black Lives Matter riots found that 81% of black Americans wanted policing to remain at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/poll-4-out-of-5-black-americans-against-cutting-policing-of-their-communities">the same or higher levels</a> in their communities.
After a national grassroots backlash against CRT-themed public school curricula swept the country, CNN and MSNBC claimed the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/7-lying-media-outlets-claiming-crt-isnt-being-taught-in-public-schools">public schools do not teach Critical Race Theory</a>. CNN took the unusual tactic of having a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/crt-teacher-crt-isnt-taught-in-schools">woman who teaches CRT</a> in Philadelphia’s public schools tell its viewers, “Critical Race Theory is not being taught in schools.”
In reality, public school districts have filtered CRT principles of “privilege,” “oppression,” “whiteness,” and “institutional racism” into the curriculum for students and teachers alike. The Loudoun County Public School system <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/public-school-graphic-dubs-christians-as-privileged-women-children-as-oppressed">handed out a graphic</a> saying that Christians, white people, and people who speak English as their primary language are privileged, while non-Christians, immigrants, and gender non-conforming people experience “oppression” in American society. The Lower Manhattan Community Middle School announced in November it would <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/11/19/nyc-schools-separating-children-by-race-for-crt-classes/">separate seventh and eighth graders by race</a> for two days of instruction.
Columbia University linguistics professor John McWhorter <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/thats-not-right-cnn-guest-corrects-don-lemon-live-on-air-when-he-says-crt-isnt-taught-in-schools">called</a> denying that schools teach principles derived from CRT “a debate team stunt, not serious engagement with a dynamic and distressing reality.”

On Friday, HBO’s Bill Maher fired back at leftist Vanderbilt University professor Michael Eric Dyson after Dyson claimed parents were “spooked by Critical Race Theory.” Maher retorted, “I find that a disingenuous argument because I don&#8217;t think that is what people are objecting to.”
Dyson stated, “The point is parents who were spooked by Critical Race Theory, none of whom can define it, when you ask them what it is, they don’t know.”

“Like what?” Dyson sneered.

In January 2017, after black comedian Steve Harvey and football great Jim Brown met with former President Donald Trump, activist Marc Lamont Hill  said, “It was a bunch of mediocre Negroes being dragged in front of TV as a photo op for Donald Trump’s exploitative campaign against black people.” Asked about Hill’s comments by Martha MacCallum of Fox News, Dyson began by claiming that whites had not been taught to think about race properly, intoning that in his new book what he wanted to do was to “invite white Americans into a conversation about race to think about how it’s constructed, about how white innocence, about white fragility, about white vulnerability are all thrown in there together, and how sometimes white people get resentful, understandably, being asked to talk about a subject they have no skills to talk about because they’ve not been practiced in it.”
Dyson added that former President Barack Obama’s presence “provoked a kind of nastiness, a viciousness. For instance, you can have legitimate disagreements with Barack Obama and not be accused of racism, but there’s no denying that a lot of the sentiment against Obama was racially driven.”
McCallum asked, “Are you saying Harvey is not the person for that conversation with Donald Trump?”
Dyson replied:
<blockquote>I’m saying that if you’re talking about serious issues of weight, values and gravitas with black America . . . Steve Harvey is not the point man for discussing policy in black America. I’m saying that there are many people who are practicing that, who are dealing with that every day, who have strategic advantages because they’ve been thinking about this: Steve Harvey is the attempt by Donald Trump to avoid with some serious weight and theological and theoretical and sociological analysis about what’s going on in the community.</blockquote>
The same month Dyson <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/michael-eric-dyson-vicious-police-america-hank-berrien/">told</a> CNN, “Many African-American people say look we were introduced to terror long before 9/11 —the vicious police forces of America that have victimized us, and the way in which white supremacy operated.”

Winsome Sears, the black female Republican candidate elected on Tuesday as the next lieutenant governor of Virginia, has responded to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/msnbc-slammed-over-disgusting-racist-rant-attacking-black-republican-unbelievably-insidious">rant</a> on MSNBC that portrayed her as a dummy being used to spout “white supremacy by ventriloquist effect.”
Frequent MSNBC <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-expert-claims-black-voters-dont-have-ids-because-underlying-documents-are-hard-to-get-many-are-free">and CNN</a> contributor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/michael-eric-dyson">Michael Eric Dyson</a> made an incendiary attack on Sears, the first black woman elected to a statewide office in Virginia history, on “The ReidOut” with Joy Reid.
Reid attempted to enroll Dyson in an attack on Republicans, who boasted that two of the three successful GOP candidates in Virginia’s statewide election were minorities. Reid responded that Republicans could not shake accusations of racism by pointing to Sears since her Democratic opponent, Hala Ayala, is afro-Latina and part Lebanese. “You had a choice of two brown/black people, and you picked one of them. Do you get credit?” she asked Dyson. Reid ignored the role of the Virginia Republican Party in selecting Sears for the nomination over <a href="https://www.wric.com/news/politics/capitol-connection/virginia-gop-lieutenant-governors-race-results-sears-jumps-to-early-lead-over-davis-hugo-for-lg-nomination/">5 other candidates at the state&#8217;s Republican Convention</a>, including white male <a href="https://glennrdavis.com/">Delegate Glenn Davis</a>.
Dyson proved all-too-willing to oblige in the verbal assault, taking a swipe at Sears&#8217; integrity. Republicans, he said, want to use Sears as a dummy through which to filter “a white idea,” because Sears “legitimates the white supremacist practices”:

There is a black mouth moving, but a white idea through the, running on the runway of the tongue of a figure who justifies and legitimates the white supremacist practices. We know that we can internalize in our own minds, in our own subconscious, and in our own bodies, the very principles that are undoing us. Look, there is a person of color that I am in favor of!’ and that person of color happens to undermine, and undercut, and subvert the very principles about which we are concerned, you do yourself no service by pointing to them as an example of your racial progressivism.</blockquote>
On Friday morning, Sears’ campaign tweeted a clip of Dyson’s fulminations with the message, “Still waiting for my invite @JoyAnnReid.”

It is Sears’ second challenge for Reid to speak to her face-to-face after Reid’s producers apparently left her previous interview request unrequited. As The Daily Wire’s Tim Pearce <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/winsome-sears-challenges-joy-reid-for-msnbc-invite-lets-see-if-shes-woman-enough">reported</a>:
<blockquote>Sears appeared on Fox News on Wednesday to react to a clip of Reid claiming that Republicans are “dangerous to our national security” for “stoking that kind of soft white nationalism [that] eventually leads to the hardcore stuff.”
“I wish Joy Reid would invite me on her show. Let’s see if she’s woman enough to do that. I’d go in a heartbeat and we’d have a real discussion without Joy speaking about me behind my back, if you will,” Sears responded. “I mean, Joy, come on. Get your facts straight and then come talk to me.”</blockquote>
Reid, who rarely indulges conflicting points of view, was widely panned for a June interview of the nation’s leading opponent of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-is-critical-race-theory-breaking-down-the-ideology-thats-hitting-schools-across-the-country">Critical Race Theory</a>, Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow <a href="https://www.manhattan-institute.org/expert/christopher-f-rufo">Christopher Rufo</a>, as she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-petulant-and-childish-outburst-msnbcs-joy-reid-goes-on-tirade-against-anti-crt-guest">interrupted Rufo 27 times in 13 minutes.</a> When Rufo asked for equal time in a “dialogue,” Reid snapped, “Well, it’s my show, so it’s <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjCHD41I7ok">how I want to do it</a>.” Ultimately, she gave herself twice as much talking time as her guest, rarely allowing him to finish a sentence. (Rufo later received a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/its-a-radical-philosophy-rooted-in-marxism-chris-rufo-returns-to-msnbc-for-debate-on-crt">more even-handed</a> debate from Reid’s colleague, Joe Scarborough.)
Dyson was not alone in dismissing Sears, a Jamaican immigrant and former Marine who campaigned as pro-life. On Thursday’s episode of CNN’s “Don Lemon Tonight,” Republican Scott Jennings responded to allegations that the Virginia GOP ran a racist campaign by saying, “If it is true that Republicans were running a racist campaign in Virginia, they did a piss poor job.&#8221;
Jennings went on to point out the GOP swept Virginia&#8217;s three statewide elections this week, emphasizing wins by Sears and Jason Miyares, a Republican who was elected as the state&#8217;s first Latino attorney general.
&#8220;Two of our candidates weren&#8217;t even white, and somehow all these racists showed up and elected a 66 percent minority ticket?”
Lemon <a href="https://transcripts.cnn.com/show/cnnt/date/2021-11-04/segment/01">retorted</a>, “That&#8217;s an, ‘I have a black friend’ argument.” He immediately closed the segment.

Winsome Sears Calls Out Joy Reid Over MSNBC Analyst’s Rant

Election integrity laws that require voters to present an identification card are racist because “the underlying documents are hard to get,” according to a recent guest on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time.” This is especially true if you are a “black or brown person,” Georgetown sociology professor Michael Eric Dyson told Chris Cuomo about Texas’ election integrity law. Yet, under Texas state law, it is possible to get all or most of the documents necessary to obtain a state ID for free, or possibly at taxpayers’ expense.
Chris Cuomo hyped his segment on voter ID laws by describing Dyson as “so smart, he&#8217;s got three names.” Cuomo then invited Dyson to weigh in on Senator Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) defense of Texas’ anti-voting fraud measures during Senate hearings this week.
“Well, it was a shenanigan,” said Dyson. “It was a sleight of hand.”
Dyson contended that voter ID laws place an intolerable burden on minorities because “it takes a lot of money to get the underlying documents.”
“The reason a lot of black folk don&#8217;t have state issue IDs,” Dyson explained, is “because the underlying documents are hard to get.” He said it was harder “trying to get them as a black or brown person living in rural areas,” since that entails “trying to go to the document centers [and] paying the fees, anywhere from $75 to $175.”
“Now, that doesn&#8217;t sound a lot for people who are middle-class and upper middle-class,” said Dyson. “But for people who are struggling every day trying to make ends meet, this [has] a deleterious impact upon them.”
A review of Texas state laws governing state identification shows that most of the documents requested are furnished free of charge.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Texan seeking his first state ID card must <a href="https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/how-apply-texas-identification-card">prove</a> 1) U.S. citizenship or lawful residence; 2) that he has been a resident of Texas for 30 days; 3) his identity; and 4) possession of a Social Security Number.
U.S. citizenship: Native-born Americans can prove their citizenship by <a href="https://www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-57.pdf">showing</a> a certified birth certificate. Legal immigrants and visa holders must provide the appropriate immigration certificates (Certificate of Naturalization, Permanent Resident card, etc).
Identity: It may seem difficult to establish an individual’s identity without an identification card, but Texas streamlines the process. If someone does not have a state ID or an unexpired passport, he can present an “unexpired U.S. military photo ID card for active duty, reserve or retired personnel.” (During the segment, Dyson complained of states that accept “enrolled active military ID but not the veterans ID.”) Legal immigrants may present their immigration documentation.
If the individual does not have one of those documents, he may present two of the following: a certified U.S. birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a court order changing the individual’s name or legally recognized gender identification.
If the individual does not have two of those documents, he may present one of those documents (e.g., a birth certificate) along with two of the following: an expired state ID, voter registration card, school report cards or ID, any insurance policy that has been held continuously for two years, a marriage or divorce certificate, Medicaid or Medicare card, Social Security card, tribal membership card, a vehicular or boat registration or title, a hospital-issued birth record, immunization records, school report card or ID, Selective Service card, military records, state or federal prison ID, or a parole or release certificate.
Texas residence: Texas residency can be proved by furnishing two of several documents, including many of the documents listed above (e.g., medical card, vehicle registration, or insurance), as well as any utility bill, bank statement, pay stub, W-2 form, auto payment statement, or any piece of mail from any government agency sent in the last 90 days.
It would be possible to obtain a Texas state ID for free by furnishing a certified birth certificate and any combination of a Social Security card, a Selective Service card, a marriage certificate, a pay stub, a W-2, military record, a Medicaid card, a prison ID, and/or a parole certificate.
If, for some reason, the applicant has lost his birth certificate, a certified long- or short-form birth certificate <a href="https://www.dshs.texas.gov/vs/costs-fees.aspx#birth">costs $22</a>. While he must prove his identity, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services will accept an <a href="https://www.dshs.texas.gov/vs/reqproc/Acceptable-IDs/">even wider variety</a> of underlying documents for this purpose.
Dyson couched the law’s alleged racism by saying it imposes an undue burden on people of color. “Even if you exclude intent,” he said, the “disproportionate consequence on black and brown voters … you’ve got a nasty affair on your hands.”
Far from disenfranchising any protected group, aspects of Texas voter identification laws appear to disproportionately benefit the poor and minorities. For instance, Medicaid and prisoner ID cards cost their recipients nothing, while Texas’ taxpayers foot the cost for those services. Both may be used to obtain a state ID and make one eligible to cast a ballot.
Dyson’s assertion that the Texas election integrity law disenfranchises minorities also appears untenable. Hispanics accounted for 51% of all Medicaid beneficiaries, and black Texans made up 15% of Medicaid enrollees in 2015, <a href="https://www.hhs.texas.gov/sites/default/files/documents/laws-regulations/reports-presentations/2017/medicaid-chip-perspective-11th-edition/11th-edition-chapter4.pdf">according</a> to the Texas HHS.
Similarly, accepting prison IDs disproportionately helps “black and brown people” register to vote. Dyson <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/23/bia.michael.dyson/index.html">wrote</a> on CNN’s website that nationally “in 2000, there were 791,600 black men in jail or prison,” including <a href="https://mdocweb.state.mi.us/OTIS2/otis2profile.aspx?mdocNumber=212687">his brother, Everett Dyson-Bey</a>, who is serving life in prison for <a href="https://casetext.com/case/dyson-v-maclaren-1">murder</a>. Blacks and Hispanics each made up <a href="https://www.tdcj.texas.gov/documents/Statistical_Report_FY2019.pdf">one-third</a> of all Texas prisoners in 2019, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The state of Texas began giving prisoners about to be released a taxpayer-funded <a href="https://www.tdcj.texas.gov/connections/MarApr2014/agency_vol21no4.html">state ID card</a> in February 2014, under then-Governor Rick Perry (R), in order to eliminate the 30-day processing period and give prisoners reintegrating into society “immediate access to employment and housing.” Under state law, ex-convicts who have “<a href="https://guides.sll.texas.gov/reentry-resources/voting">fully discharged</a>” their sentences are eligible <a href="http://therightswriter.com/2009/06/sotomayor%E2%80%99s-racialist-judicial-activism/">to vote</a>.

Although Dyson appeared on CNN, he regularly provides commentary on rival MSNBC. In June, Dyson <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E92hfGFhhI">insulted</a> Trump voters as “the maggots — I’m sorry, the MAGA,” calling them “mediocre, mealy-mouthed, snowflake white men who are incapable of taking critique.” He later said he actually called Republicans “‘MAGAts,’ not ‘maggots’” in an attempt to be “cute and clever.” Dyson averred that he “didn’t anticipate” GOP voters “who are white would hear it as” an insult and claimed that his remarks brought him “an onslaught of death threats and being called the n-word out of white rage for a mistake I made.”
MSNBC has invited Dyson back on the air numerous times since his outburst. Last Tuesday, he appeared on “The ReidOut,” where he <a href="https://twitter.com/thereidout/status/1438663747095207944">hailed</a> “Joy Reid, the Nicki Minaj of black, female journalists.”

CNN Expert Claims Black Voters Don’t Have IDs Because ‘Underlying Documents Are Hard To Get’. Many Are Free.

America the land of opportunity, has given two pillars of left-wing cable news the ability to attack the character of the United States and their political opponents — and then present themselves as the victims when their viewers voiced their outrage.

Don Lemon managed to morph an assault on the character of the United States into a chance to portray himself as a victim. Late last month, he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnns-don-lemon-i-dont-know-if-americans-see-black-people-as-fully-human">told</a> The Washington Post that, while others may believe in the deep-seated goodness of America, “we knew, as black people” that racial violence is perpetually “lurking beneath the surface.”
“I don’t think America has seen enough people like me. I don’t think America intimately knows enough people like me,” said Lemon. “I don’t know if America sees black people and especially black gay men as fully human, and as deserving of the American Dream.”
It’s unclear that a nation that offers both gay men and blacks protected legal status wishes to condemn those groups as subhuman, a fact that seemed incongruous to top-rated Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “Don Lemon lives in a $4.3 million home in Sag Harbor, New York,” Carlson noted on the air. “He does not live in Section 8 housing” but chooses to move to an area where the population is “just 3% African-American.” Carlson’s camera crew then zoomed in on what he playfully <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tucker-points-out-anti-racist-don-lemon-has-a-blackface-cookie-jar">called</a> “the most troubling discovery about Mr. Lemon”: a photo of Lemon’s mansion showing a cookie jar of a man wearing blackface. “What is this symbol of hate posing as a cookie jar doing in Don Lemon’s kitchen?” he asked.
Hours later on CNN, Lemon <a href="http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/2106/22/cnnt.01.html">responded</a> curtly, “Let me simply just say this: If you think that a black person who doesn&#8217;t live in public housing can experience or understand racism in this country, well, that just says much more about you and your ignorance on these issues than it does about me.”
While Lemon’s remarks got <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/section-8-carlson-housing-lemon-b1871527.html">good press</a>, they didn’t really address Carlson’s point, which is that Lemon should consider himself a living embodiment of the American Dream. He grew up in Louisiana in the 1960s and ‘70s, and was child molested by another boy when he was a child. Lemon now hosts a prime-time show on a global cable news network and earns <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9697085/Don-Lemon-says-living-two-different-realities-black-white-people.html">$4 million</a> a year and lives in a multimillion-dollar mansion ensconced inside an elite community.
And Lemon’s choices justly open him to charges of hypocrisy. Lemon has <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekwvBJLsVZc">lashed out</a> at Megyn Kelly for <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2018/10/23/megyn-kelly-asked-what-is-racist-about-blackface-halloween-plenty-people-had-answers/">saying</a> people should have the right to wear the Halloween costumes of their choice (and face the consequences for doing so), <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNGMt1yWTrU">calling</a> the decision to wear blackface “equally disgusting and offensive” as donning the white robes of the Ku Klux Klan. “It deeply hurt people like me,” he continued. “If you even thought it was OK, or if you’re someone like [Virginia’s blackface-wearing Democratic Governor], Ralph Northam, then you owe people like me in this country a huge apology. … Put it where the sun don’t shine.”

Despite his success, Lemon often uses his platform to condemn the United States as a structurally racist nation dedicated to preventing minority advancement. He says that minimizing decades-old acts of youthful racial insensitivity would cause millions of American hearts to bleed. Yet Lemon’s privileged life allows him to deck out his immaculate kitchen in a well-to-do neighborhood with a blackface cookie jar. Rather than explain himself, CNN seemed to believe that Lemon had cleared the air with his identity politics-fueled, one-sentence rejoinder.

The same week Michael Eric Dyson, a Georgetown sociology professor, and frequent MSNBC contributor, claimed aggrieved status after he resorted to overt name-calling on the air. Dyson <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E92hfGFhhI">quipped</a> to Nicolle Wallace that he would begin “speaking about the maggots — I’m sorry. The MAGA.” Dyson, an <a href="https://chapel.howard.edu/speaker-schedule/speaker-profiles/dr-michael-eric-dyson">ordained</a> Baptist minister, proceeded to brand his critics “mediocre, mealy-mouthed, snowflake white men who are incapable of taking critique, who are willing to dole out infamous repudiations of the humanity of the other, and yet they call us snowflakes. And they are the biggest flakes of snow to hit the Earth.”
“They are not critical; they have no race; and they don’t understand theory,” continued Dyson, who certainly seemed to ascribe racial characteristics to his adversaries moments earlier. “They are allowed to wax eloquently about the means and limits of rationality in this country and they couldn’t save themselves if the world depended on it,” he concluded.

While Dyson’s outburst won the nodding, smiling approval of his host and fellow guest, it engendered national backlash. The following day, Dyson <a href="https://twitter.com/michaeledyson/status/1408062115370340360">offered</a> a halfhearted act of contrition, preceded by dissembling and followed by playing the victim. Then he repeated the same victim sandwich during his return to MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” that Friday.

“Black people have to bear the brunt of white rage, of white hostility. I myself, the other day — ” he started before interrupting himself. “Let me apologize on this program. I was trying to be cute and clever when I was talking about MAGA; therefore, ‘MAGAts,’ not ‘maggots.’ I didn’t anticipate that, you know, brothers and sisters who are white would hear it as that, so I deeply and profoundly apologize for that.”
Although the video seems to clearly indicate that Rev. Dyson <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+20%3A16&amp;version=RSV">did, indeed, intend</a> the insulting aspect of his wordplay, he claimed his inadvertent use of a base smear had turned him into a victim. “But I have been hit with an onslaught of death threats and being called the n-word out of white rage for a mistake I made, for which I am willing to apologize, certainly. And what black people are often up against is the fact that … so much hatred is directed at us, so much white rage is directed at us.”
Dyson handled a nationally broadcast ad hominem by disingenuously claiming he meant no offense, offering up alleged death threats, and letting the matter die out. Dyson’s deflection followed the same <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-3-steps-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-takes-to-shut-down-media-criticism">three steps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez takes to avoid scrutiny</a>. And, as with Lemon, it proved more than enough to keep him in his network’s good graces.

Americans are not well served when thoughtful discourse is replaced with cries of victimhood. Dodging accountability by claiming to be more-oppressed-than-thou betrays a juvenile refusal to accept responsibility and short-circuits the rational discussion of issues. The mere attempt should expose the practitioner as attempting to defend the indefensible.

‘So Much Hatred is Directed at Us’: Cable News Liberals Attack, Then Play the Victim

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota hosted a panel with former Bush Administration official Scott Jennings and left-wing Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson where she allowed the latter to go into an unchallenged diatribe accusing Trump supporters of being &#8220;complicit in the racist animus of this country,&#8221; according to <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2018/07/05/michael_eric_dyson_white_folks_need_to_find_your_spine_and_admit_trump_is_a_racist.html">RealClearPolitics</a>. 
After highlighting a Quinnipiac University National <a href="https://poll.qu.edu/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2554">Poll</a> that showed 51% do not think President Donald Trump is a racist, Dyson descended into an unhinged rant about Trump and moderate and conservative Americans. 
&#8220;Racism is as racism does,&#8221; he opined. &#8220;The reality is this &#8230; Donald Trump talks like a racist, thinks like a racist, makes statements like a racist, conjures emotions that give support to white nationalists. Yeah, he&#8217;s a racist.&#8221;
He continued: &#8220;So here&#8217;s the problem, Martin Luther King Jr. said it&#8217;s not the white supremacists who are the problem, it&#8217;s white moderates and conservatives who are complicit by trying to dismiss it.&#8221;
It is worth noting that Professor Dyson misquoted Dr. King, who wrote in his famous &#8220;<a href="http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/45a/060.html">Letter from Birmingham Jail</a>&#8220;:

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro&#8217;s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen&#8217;s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to &#8220;order&#8221; than to justice. &#8230;
</blockquote>
Dr. King&#8217;s concern was not with conservatives, but with moderates who attempted to protect &#8220;order&#8221; over justice. Those moderates included hypocritical government officials, mostly progressive Democrats, who promised support but did nothing when the time for the Civil Right movements began. 
After being given the floor to condemn conservatives and moderates, Dyson attacked Jennings personally.
&#8220;Brother Jennings,&#8221; he said. &#8220;much respect for you but what you&#8217;re doing is egregious because you&#8217;re attempting to make valid what are essentially naked raw statements of racism.&#8221;
Dyson added later, &#8220;Until white folk like you can stand up and find your spine, you will continue to be complicit in the racist animus of this country.&#8221;
Camerota failed to point out Dyson&#8217;s own race-baiting. As Hot Air reported in <a href="https://hotair.com/archives/2018/05/21/michael-dyson-jordan-peterson-youre-mean-mad-white-man/">May</a>, Dyson was in a debate with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/29133/book-review-dr-jordan-petersons-12-rules-life-jacob-airey">Dr. Jordan Peterson</a>. When Peterson answered questions regarding so-called &#8220;white privilege,&#8221; Dyson answered with the insult, &#8220;You&#8217;re doing well but you&#8217;re a mean, mad, white man.&#8221;
The Democrats seem determined to push the identity politics agenda. When they allow their pundits to go on left-leaning news outlets to call the majority of Americans racists or complicit in racism, they are alienating a strong voter base. 
As Michael Knowles points <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/32692/democrats-2018-slogan-godsend-republicans-michael-j-knowles">out</a>, &#8220;Republicans couldn&#8217;t have crafted a better Democrat campaign platform if we tried.&#8221;

Dyson described Jesse Jackson as &#8220;[one of] the great prophets that God has given us.&#8221;
America is &#8220;decrepit&#8221; and &#8220;depraved,&#8221; said Dyson:

This country claims to be in the imago dei, the image of God. It&#8217;s in the decrepit depraved of a government that refuses to acknowledge of all of God&#8217;s children.

President Donald Trump&#8217;s opposition to Barack Obama, said Dyson, is rooted in racism. He also hyped black racial grievance narratives:

&#8220;Black Lives Matter and Antifa are interested in preserving the fabric of America,&#8221; said Michael Eric Dyson last Wednesday during a CNN discussion about recent unrest in Charlottesville, VA.
Dyson joined CNN contributor Jason Miller and hostess Poppy Harlow on New Day in making his comments.
The use of violence to shut down &#8220;bigotry,&#8221; suggested Dyson, is both moral and lawful:

To equate the violence in reaction against bigotry with the bigotry itself is to misunderstand the fact that when you go to cancer treatment, the radiation is tough treatment, but it is meant to remove the cancer. 
So what [Jason Miller] fails to understand, and what the president especially fails to understand is that you are complicit with the worst currents of bigotry in this country when you try to draw a false equivalence between secessionists and racists and Confederate defenders and bigots and neo-Nazis, and African-American and white people and others who have defended the right of this nation to really seek a path of healing beyond the consternation we see now.

Dyson: BLM/AntiFa ‘Are Preserving The Fabric Of America’

Speaking on CNN with hosts Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota, black sociologist Michael Eric Dyson said the &#8220;vicious police forces of America&#8221; have &#8220;victimized&#8221; the black community.
The exchange began with Dyson being asked about Barack Obama&#8217;s legacy. He answered, &#8220;Obama had to deal with police brutality, the resurgence of a vital black movement under Black Lives Matter, so he had to negotiate some very hostile tensions and some contradictions with the citizenry.&#8221;
Camerota pointed out that Dyson thought the election of Donald Trump was &#8220;more race-based than a lot of other people think.&#8221;
Dyson agreed, positing that hatred of Obama influenced the election:

That&#8217;s not all it was; obvious people who were poor and hurt and suffering felt, ironically enough, that a billionaire would be able to identify with them; but let&#8217;s be honest: a lot of the response against Obama was for no other reason than he was a black man. If you don&#8217;t like Barack Obama as a black man, there are not too many other brothers you are going to dig, because he&#8217;s nice, he&#8217;s genial, he&#8217;s affable, he agrees with people who disagrees (sic) with him. I mean that kind of man is extremely rare, so there&#8217;s no question that part of the animus was driven by his race.
</blockquote>
Camerota asked logically, &#8220;How did that allow Donald Trump to be elected? If you&#8217;re saying there was some racism that went into electing Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton isn&#8217;t a black male either.&#8221;
Dyson replied, &#8220;But did Hillary Clinton lead the birther movement? The very guy who questioned the legitimacy of Barack Obama is now the president of the United States of America. You&#8217;re answering your own question.&#8221;
Camerota persisted: &#8220;You think that&#8217;s why the American people voted for him? Or they overlooked that, because they believed he was going to be helpful to business . . .&#8221;
Dyson took the opportunity to slam Americans who voted for Trump:

Ah, your faith in the American citizenry is pretty high. They overlooked what? The fact that Donald Trump, for two years, with lethal intensity, continued to assault a sitting president as illegitimate, and now, thin-skinned as he is, can&#8217;t even take John Lewis saying that you may be illegitimate? I don&#8217;t think people over looked that; I think he ginned up the racial animus. I think he appealed to the worst instincts in our nature. Unlike Lincoln &#8212; the better angels of our nature &#8212; he appealed to the worst demons on our collective enterprise of thinking about American citizenship and democracy. And as a result of that, got elected.

Chris Cuomo pointed out many people voted for Trump because they thought the Obama administration had been weak on ISIS, an issue that Cuomo described as &#8220;color-neutral.&#8221; He added that the problems with Obamacare, such as &#8220;keeping your own plan,&#8221; were color-neutral, as was the weak economic recovery since 2008.

But let&#8217;s go on; let&#8217;s take his logic to the extreme here. If that&#8217;s the case, how many people have died from terror in America in the last ten years? Maybe a hundred. Michael Eric Dyson: ‘Vicious Police Forces’ Of America Victimized Black People

After black comedian Steve Harvey and football great Jim Brown met with Donald Trump, some leftist blacks erupted in fury, including Marc Lamont Hill, who said, &#8220;It was a bunch of mediocre Negroes being dragged in front of TV as a photo op for Donald Trump&#8217;s exploitative campaign against black people.&#8221;
Hill&#8217;s remarks provoked a storm, prompting Martha McCallum of Fox News to interview Georgetown sociology professor Michael Eric Dyson and Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro on Tuesday. McCallum interviewed Dyson first; his remarks claiming that his objections to Trump interviewing black celebrities were based on their lack of knowledge of substantive issues were dissected and blown apart by Shapiro immediately afterward.
Dyson, who is black, began by claiming that whites have not been taught to think about race properly, intoning that in his new book what he wanted to do was to &#8220;invite white Americans into a conversation about race to think about how it&#8217;s constructed, about how white innocence, about white fragility, about white vulnerability are all thrown in there together, and how sometimes white people get resentful, understandably, being asked to talk about a subject they have no skills to talk about because they&#8217;ve not been practiced in it.&#8221;
Dyson added that Barack Obama&#8217;s presence &#8220;provoked a kind of nastiness, a viciousness. For instance, you can have legitimate disagreements with Barack Obama and not be accused of racism, but there&#8217;s no denying that a lot of the sentiment against Obama was racially driven.&#8221;
When asked about Lamont Hill&#8217;s characterization of blacks meeting with Trump as &#8220;mediocre Negroes,&#8221; Dyson stated:

Look, there&#8217;s nothing wrong, Steve Harvey, as was said, is a remarkable man and a successful man. There&#8217;s no problem with that; the problem is Donald Trump, not Steve Harvey. Look, if you want to have a conversation with white America, do you go to Miley Cyrus or Mitch McConnell? The point is, why do an end run around Mitch McConnell or John Boehner or Paul Ryan, and speak to, say, I don&#8217;t know, George Clooney?

McCallum asked, &#8220;Are you saying Harvey is not the person for that conversation with Donald Trump?&#8221;
Dyson replied:

I&#8217;m saying that if you&#8217;re talking about serious issues of weight, values and gravitas with black America . . . Steve Harvey is not the point man for discussing policy in black America. I&#8217;m saying that there are many people who are practicing that, who are dealing with that every day, who have strategic advantages because they&#8217;ve been thinking about this: Steve Harvey is the attempt by Donald Trump to avoid with some serious weight and theological and theoretical and sociological analysis about what&#8217;s going on in the community.&#8221;

McCallum then interviewed Shapiro, asking him to comment on Dyson&#8217;s remarks. He responded:

First of all, I think that anybody who says that someone is a &#8220;Mediocre Negro&#8221; because they disagree politically makes you less than a mediocre person. It&#8217;s really quite a disgusting thing to say, and I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s intellectually honest for Professor Dyson to be talking about how they were just wanting someone with more expertise, because I really doubt if Donald Trump had invited Thomas Sowell, for example, or Jason Riley of The Wall Street Journal to talk about housing policy they would have been supremely happy either. What this really is about is that there&#8217;s a cadre of people on the left who get very insulted any time a Republican reaches out to a prominent black person who doesn&#8217;t immediately slap that hand away and say, &#8220;Listen, you guys are the bad guys,&#8221; because too many folks on the left like to racially polarize in order to make hay politically and that is really quite terrible.

Shapiro added:

The fact is, that if we&#8217;re going to build a better country, we&#8217;re going to need to reach across the aisle, not just on racial lines but along political lines, and labeling everybody one way politically based on the color of their skin is the essence of racism. The idea that your race is inherently connected with your political thought is inherently racist, and the left refuses to acknowledge that, unfortunately.

McCallum asked, &#8220;What can Donald Trump do to sort of bridge that divide?&#8221;

Listen, I think Trump is actually doing the right thing on a lot of these things. When Trump invites people like Steve Harvey, or when he invites Jim Brown, or when he invites any of the other people he&#8217;s been inviting since . . . Martin Luther King III? Is that somebody that lacks gravitas? When he invites all these people to Trump Tower to talk about this stuff I think he&#8217;s actually attempting to reach out.
Now, whether you think that&#8217;s PR or not, it doesn&#8217;t really matter; the bottom line is what would Trump do differently if he were actually reaching out as opposed to actually doing PR? I&#8217;m not sure he would be doing anything differently. The idea that the left can object to celebrity involvement in politics &#8211; I didn&#8217;t see them whining and crying when Meryl Streep was ripping Donald Trump up and down over at the Golden Globes; I saw them celebrating her heroism for wearing a $12,000 ball gown in front of all her friends.
