Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) admitted to FBI Director Kash Patel during a Tuesday hearing that there are, in fact, biological differences between men and women that can greatly impact their physical capabilities.
Hirono, who has repeatedly advocated for men to be allowed to self-identify as females and play in girls&#8217; and women&#8217;s sports leagues, complained during the hearing that FBI applicants were expected to do one pull-up regardless of whether they were male or female.

&#8220;One question I had is that you are now requiring applicants to be able to do a certain kind of pull-ups, which a lot of women can not because of physiological differences,&#8221; Hirono said. &#8220;Are you requiring these kinds of pull-ups?&#8221;
&#8220;We are requiring the physical program at BFTC (Basic Field Training Course) at Quantico because FBI agents carrying guns in the field, have to chase down bad guys, and do really hard work,&#8221; Patel replied. &#8220;The physical fitness standards of those agents —&#8221;
&#8220;So are you requiring these kinds of pull-ups?&#8221; Hirono interrupted.
&#8220;We are requiring everybody to pass the standards at BFTC,&#8221; Patel replied. &#8220;If you want to chase down a bad guy and put him in handcuffs you better be able to do a pull-up.&#8221;
&#8220;The reason I ask is that there are concerns about whether or not being able to do these kinds of harsh pull-ups is really required of FBI agents,&#8221; Hirono tried again.
&#8220;Doing one pull-up is not harsh,&#8221; Patel shot back, adding, &#8220;And there are always medical exemptions to them.&#8221;
Hirono, as recently as April of this year, was complaining about Republican efforts to bar men from playing in women&#8217;s sports in spite of the same &#8220;physiological differences&#8221; she raised concerns about at Tuesday&#8217;s hearing.

Hegseth, who was on Capitol Hill for another round of contentious hearings, made it abundantly clear that he was not going to allow Hirono to dictate the framing of his response.

Hirono framed her question against the backdrop of the violence and riots over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Los Angeles — which had resulted in President Donald Trump deploying first California National Guard troops and then U.S. Marines to the city to protect federal property and personnel. She asked Hegseth whether he or others would carry out an order from Trump to &#8220;shoot peaceful protesters in the legs.&#8221;
&#8220;Would you carry out such an order?&#8221; she asked.

Maxine Waters</a> (D-CA) when she joined protesters in the streets of Los Angeles and taunted the ICE agents who&#8217;d been sent to enforce federal immigration law. The Democrat women of the Senate&#8217;s Armed Services Committee were all clearly working from the same playbook during Tuesday morning&#8217;s hearing for decorated Army veteran <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pete-hegseth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pete Hegseth</a>, President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s choice to lead the Pentagon.
While there were a few substantive questions directed at Hegseth, who acquitted himself calmly and rationally throughout, the majority of the time allotted to the Democratic women was devoted to dishonest and repeated attempts to conflate comments Hegseth has made about women serving in direct combat roles with an outright opposition to all women in military service.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) pointed out the fact that women currently make up 18% of the United States military — and Hegseth agreed with her that they were a vital part of the mission.
Shaheen then referred to Hegseth&#8217;s comments from a podcast last year, when he said, &#8220;I’m straight up just saying we should not have women in combat roles. It hasn’t made us more effective. Hasn’t made us more lethal. Has made fighting more complicated.&#8221;
Hegseth has also said on more than one occasion that he absolutely respected and valued the women with whom he&#8217;d served, and that his concern was solely related to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-not-a-general-pete-hegseth-tomahawks-sen-warrens-attempted-smear-with-just-4-words" target="_blank" rel="noopener">direct combat roles</a> and the fact that in order to ensure more women met the qualifications to serve in such roles, standards were often lowered.

Still, Shaheen pressed on as though he&#8217;d said there was no place for women in the military at all — and then suggested that he was only agreeing with her that women played a valuable role because he thought it might help his chances at getting confirmed.
&#8220;What I&#8217;m confused about Mr. Hegseth is, which is it?” Shaheen asked. “Why should women in our military, if you were the secretary of Defense, believe that they would have a fair shot at an equal opportunity to rise through the ranks if, on the one hand you say that women are not competent, they make our military less effective, and on the other hand, you say, ‘Oh no, now that I&#8217;ve been nominated to be the secretary of Defense, I&#8217;ve changed my view.’&#8221;

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) ripped a page from the same playbook, claiming, &#8220;For 12 years, you were quite open about your views, and your views were consistently the same: women are inferior soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and guardians. Then on November 9, 2024, just 32 days after your last public comments saying that women absolutely should not be in combat, you declare that ‘some of our greatest warriors are women.'&#8221;
&#8220;I very much appreciate you bringing up my comments from 2013, because for me, this issue has always been about standards,&#8221; Hegseth replied — and every time he attempted to clarify his position further, Warren interrupted, talking over him and substituting her own assessment for his.
Warren also ultimately suggested that Hegseth had only just changed his views upon receiving a nomination to serve in Trump&#8217;s cabinet: &#8220;I have heard of deathbed conversions but this is the first I’ve heard of a nomination conversion.&#8221;

Hirono also referenced an off-the-cuff remark that former Defense Secretary Mark Esper claimed that Trump made during the 2020 George Floyd protests, during which Secret Service agents and Capitol Police were attacked in the vicinity of the White House as they stood to protect it: &#8220;Can&#8217;t you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?&#8221;
Esper, in his memoir, criticized Trump&#8217;s comment and suggested he&#8217;d refused the &#8220;order&#8221; to take action. &#8220;The good news — this wasn’t a difficult decision. The bad news — I had to figure out a way to walk Trump back without creating the mess I was trying to avoid.&#8221;
Hirono turned to Hegseth then, quoting Esper&#8217;s words as gospel: &#8220;In June of 2020, then-President Trump directed former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper to shoot protesters in the legs in downtown D.C. An order Secretary Esper refused to comply with. Would you carry out such an order from President Trump?&#8221;
&#8220;Senator, I was in the Washington DC National Guard unit that was in Lafayette Square during those events carrying a riot shield on behalf of my country,&#8221; Hegseth replied.
&#8220;Would you carry out an order to shoot protesters in the legs as directed to by the president?&#8221; Hirono asked again.
&#8220;I saw 50 Secret Service agents get injured by rioters, trying to jump over the fence, set the church on fire and destroy it,&#8221; Hegseth said.
&#8220;You know what? That sounds to me that you will comply with such an order. You will shoot protesters in the leg,&#8221; Hirono concluded by cutting him off and substituting her own response instead.

Mazie Hirono Faces Backlash For Claiming GOP Implied Biden SCOTUS Pick Nominated Due To Race

On Wednesday, appearing on MSNBC, Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) said she would like Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer’s replacement to “consider the impact &#8230; on people in our country so that they are not making decisions just based on” the law.
Hirono <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2022/01/26/hirono-i-hope-scotus-pick-will-not-make-rulings-just-based-on-law-and-will-consider-the-impact-of-rulings/">stated</a>, “What I’m looking for is a justice who can be fair and impartial and who does not have an ideological axe to grind, which is what we saw — as far as I’m concerned — in President Trump’s nominees, including to the Supreme Court.”
“So, yes, I am expecting a fight, but there you have it,” she continued, then said, “And I’m looking for someone who’s going to be, not only highly qualified, as all of the people that you already talked about are, but who really brings to the judiciary the kind of diversity that I’d like, that — someone who will consider the impact, the effects of whatever decision-making is on people in our country so that they are not making decisions just based on,” here she pointed out her desire for the “effects,” digressing, “which I would like them to base it on,” before returning to “law.”
Then she returned to her desire for decision-making to be based on “effects,” adding, “which would be nice, and precedent, and who are not eagerly trying to get rid of decades of precedent that would protect a woman’s right to choose, for example, and voting rights, etc. But I’d like a justice who also will take into consideration the real-life impact of the decisions he or she will be making.”
In September 2018, during the Supreme Court hearings for Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination, CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Hirono whether Kavanaugh should receive the &#8220;same presumption of innocence as anyone else in America,&#8221; to which Hirono replied, &#8220;I put his denial in the context of everything that I know about him in terms of how he approaches his cases.&#8221;
&#8220;When I say that he is very outcome driven, he has an ideological agenda, very outcome driven, and I could sit here and talk to you about some of the cases that exemplifies his ability to be fair,&#8221; Hirono added.
The Daily Wire&#8217;s Emily Zanotti <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/watch-sen-mazie-hirono-says-she-doubts-kavanaughs-emily-zanotti/">noted</a> at the time, “Hirono&#8217;s meaning is clear: because Kavanaugh embraces conservative jurisprudence — ostensibly including opposition to Roe v. Wade, though he did not voice such opposition during his confirmation hearings — he cannot be trusted not to harm women. The statement is demonstrative, as many on social media pointed out, of how Democrats are approaching the Kavanaugh accusations, generally: they&#8217;re not opposed to Kavanaugh because of the allegations, they&#8217;re opposed to him because they disagree with the way he decides cases.”

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, appears to have changed her tune on holding those alleged to have killed Jamal Khashoggi accountable for his murder in 2018.
Only a month after Khashoggi&#8217;s death in October 2018, Hirono attacked President Donald Trump, claiming on Twitter that Trump was siding with the &#8220;murderers.&#8221;
&#8220;Donald Trump yet again ignored our own intelligence community&#8217;s assessment in Jamal Khashoggi&#8217;s death, choosing to side with Mr. Khashoggi&#8217;s murderers. Why?&#8221; Hirono tweeted. &#8220;He will ignore even the most basic human rights standards to protect himself &amp; his own interests.&#8221;
The Biden administration declassified a report last week on Khashoggi&#8217;s death that alleges Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman (MBS) “approved” the operation that resulted in his death.
Hirono was asked about the development during an interview on Sunday with ABC News host George Stephanopoulos and she appeared to change her tune on the issue.
Here is the exchange that Hirono had with Stephanopoulos:

Saudi Arabia is an ally, and so &#8212; yes, there are calls to do more, and I await the reassessment that Joe Biden is going to engage in, regarding Saudi Arabia, and the pause in arms sales, that I think hits Saudi Arabia, and I think that there will be more. I hope so.</blockquote>

Hirono was not the only top Democrat to change their tune on the issue as President Joe Biden also has taken a much <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-fearing-saudi-arabia-wont-penalize-mbs-after-he-promised-during-election-that-he-would-hold-saudi-leaders-accountable-reports">more measured</a> approach to the issue versus remarks that he made while on the campaign trail.
During a Democrat primary debate in November 2019, Biden was asked by MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell if he would hold those responsible for Khashoggi’s death responsible for what happened.

There’s very little social redeeming value in the present government in Saudi Arabia. And I would also, as pointed out, I would end subsidies that we have, end the sale of material to the Saudis — where they’re going in and murdering children and they’re murdering innocent people, and so they have to be held accountable.</blockquote>
The New York Times reported last week that Biden now is &#8220;fearing&#8221; the consequences of penalizing MBS.
“Biden has decided that the price of directly penalizing Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, is too high, according to senior administration officials,” The Times <a href="https://archive.is/vz0WL#selection-567.4-567.347">reported</a>. “Biden’s aides said that as a practical matter, Prince Mohammed would not be invited to the United States anytime soon, and they denied that they were giving Saudi Arabia a pass, describing series of new actions on lower-level officials intended to penalize elite elements of the Saudi military and impose new deterrents to human rights abuses.”

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) — who is <a href="https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/mazie_hirono/412200/report-card/2019">ranked</a> as one of the most partisan and far-left members of the U.S. Senate  — claimed on Tuesday that social media bias against conservative users does not exist as she complained that publications like Fox News and The Daily Wire perform too well on the platform.
“Mr. Zuckerberg, for the second time in three weeks, you’ve been called before the Senate Committee so my Republican colleagues can beat you up over claims that your platforms are supposedly biased against conservatives. The fact of the matter is that these allegations are completely baseless.”
Hirono said that there was no evidence that social media platforms were biased against conservatives because Media Matters — a leftist organization that smears conservatives and advocates harming conservative news organizations with boycotts — says so.
“Everyone who has systematically looked at the content of social media from Media Matters to the CATO Institute to former Sen. John Kyl (R-AZ) has found absolutely no evidence of anti-conservative bias and data from Crowd Tangle show that far-right content from the likes of Fox News, Ben Shapiro, and Dan Bongino dominates the daily top-10 most engaged pages on Facebook.”
“So all of these allegations about the fact that you hire, or all of your employees are left-of-center, is relevant of nothing, certainly not relevant on some sort of anti-conservative bias in terms of your content moderation,” Hirono claimed. “So, the way I see it, this hearing is a transparent effort by my Republican colleagues to work the refs and unfortunately, in my view, it’s working.”
Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/20/facebook-audit-conservative-bias-amid-criticism-1469287">reported</a> that the report authored by Kyl “doesn&#8217;t come to a definitive conclusion about whether bias exists on the platform, but appears designed to quell mounting accusations by GOP leaders.”
Hirono also painted a misleading picture of how conservative content performs on Facebook as she failed to mention that, according to <a href="https://about.fb.com/news/2020/11/what-do-people-actually-see-on-facebook-in-the-us/">data</a> that Facebook have made public, mainstream media publications, which are typically left-of-center, dominate on Facebook in terms of the number of people who see their content. The data provided by Facebook shows that the following publications are included in Facebook’s top-10 ranking of publishers whose content reaches the most users on the platform: CNN, NBC News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CBS News, USA Today, People, and NPR. The list also includes Fox News and the New York Post, which are typically more right-of-center publications.

During the vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court on Monday evening, Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono (HI) cast her vote as a &#8220;hell, no&#8221; before appearing to storm out.
&#8220;I&#8217;d like to say, hell no,&#8221; Hirono says (see video clip below).
As reported by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-amy-coney-barrett-confirmed-to-supreme-court-with-support-from-majority-of-senators">The Daily Wire</a>, Barrett was confirmed by a majority of U.S. Senators with a glaring lack of bipartisanship coming from Senate Democrats.
&#8220;Barrett was confirmed on a 52-48 vote with only Republicans voting to confirm her. One Republican, Susan Collins (ME), voted against Barrett which comes as she is in the middle of a tough re-election campaign and her &#8216;no&#8217; vote would ultimately not alter the outcome,&#8221; The Daily Wire noted.
During the hearings for Barrett that preceded the vote on Monday, Hirono <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dem-senator-reprises-kavanaugh-hearings-asks-amy-coney-barrett-if-shes-ever-sexually-assaulted-anyone">raised eyebrows</a> by asking the mother of seven if she ever engaged in the sexual assault or harassment of anyone, though the judge has never been accused of such misconduct. 
“Since you became a legal adult, have you ever made unwanted requests for sexual favors, or committed any physical or verbal harassment or assault of a sexual nature?” Hirono asked Barrett.
“No, Senator Hirono,” Barrett answered.
“Have you ever faced discipline or entered into a settlement related to this kind of conduct?” questioned the Democrat. 
Again, Barrett said no. 
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dem-senator-reprises-kavanaugh-hearings-asks-amy-coney-barrett-if-shes-ever-sexually-assaulted-anyone">According</a> to Fox News, Hirono said that she “asks those two questions of all nominees who come before committees on which she sits.”
Barrett has been under attack over her Catholic faith by the Left since her confirmation hearing to be a federal appeals judge in 2017.
For example, both Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Dirk Durbin (D-IL) were hit with charges of anti-Catholic bigotry for pressing Barrett about her personal religious views, most notably when Feinstein told the judge, “the dogma lives loudly within you.”
Following Barrett’s federal appeals judge hearings, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) raised concerns over attacks from Democrats on the judge’s faith: “I think some of the questioning that you have been subjected to today seems to miss some of these fundamental constitutional protections we all have,” the senator said at the time, <a href="https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/watch-dems-shamefully-grill-trump-judicial-nominee-over-her-religion/">according</a> to Law&amp;Crime.
The Washington Post, too, highlighted Barrett’s faith in an apparent attempt to paint her as an extremist unfit for the Supreme Court.
“Amy Coney Barrett, the judge at the top of Trump’s list to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg, has said we should always remember that a ‘legal career is but a means to an end … and that end is building the Kingdom of God,’” one <a href="https://twitter.com/RonCharles/status/1307737438006243330">Washington Post reporter</a> tweeted.
“Trump’s likely RBG replacement, Amy Coney Barrett, is a Catholic extremist with 7 children who does not believe employers should be required to provide health care coverage for birth control,” a progressive activist said of the judge. “She wants the rest of American women to be stuck with her extreme lifestyle.”

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) snapped at a reporter Thursday afternoon after she was confronted over the Democrats&#8217; double standard over the term &#8220;sexual preference,&#8221; which she made a big deal out of during the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
“I have no agenda,” Barrett said during the hearing. “I do want to be clear that I have never discriminated on the basis of sexual preference and would not discriminate on the basis of sexual preference.”
Hirono fired back at Barrett, claiming, “It is used by anti-LGBTQ activists to suggest that sexual orientation is a choice. It is not. Sexual orientation is a key part of a person’s identity.”
Barrett caved and immediately apologized, saying, “I certainly didn’t mean and would never mean to use a term that would cause any offense in the LGBTQ community. So, if I did, I greatly apologize for that, I simply meant to be referring to Obergefell&#8217;s holding with regard to same-sex marriage.”
The entire ordeal was so over the top that Merriam-Webster&#8217;s online dictionary quietly changed the meaning of the word following the hearing to claim that it was &#8220;offensive,&#8221; all because some Democratic Senators said that it was.

National Review reporter John McCormack caught up with Hirono late this week and pressed her over the feigned outrage from Democrats by pointing out that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has recently used the term and asking her if Biden should apologize.
Hirono refused to answer the question and, when repeatedly pressed, she snapped, &#8220;Oh, stop it. The world is in flames.&#8221;

Hirono Snaps When Confronted Over Democrat Double Standard On ‘Sexual Preference’: ‘World Is In Flames’

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) harkened back to now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh&#8217;s Supreme Court confirmation hearings Tuesday afternoon, asking judge Amy Coney Barrett whether she&#8217;d ever committed sexual assault.
Sen. Hirono, who turned up to the hearing sporting a face mask with photos of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, was one of the final senators to question Barrett on Tuesday, the second day of Barrett&#8217;s Senate confirmation hearings. After delivering remarks on &#8220;ensure[ing] the fitness of nominees,&#8221; Hirono questioned whether Barrett had ever been accused of sexual impropriety or entered into an agreement to related to inappropriate sexual conduct.
&#8220;Citing a statement from Chief Justice John Roberts in 2017 in which he acknowledged that the judiciary &#8216;is not immune&#8217; from the problem of sexual misconduct, Hirono said it is her duty &#8216;to ensure the fitness of nominees&#8217; for positions that have lifetime appointments,&#8221; Fox News reported late Tuesday.
“Since you became a legal adult, have you ever made unwanted requests for sexual favors, or committed any physical or verbal harassment or assault of a sexual nature?” Hirono asked Barrett.
“No, Senator Hirono,” Barrett replied.
Hirono then asked Barrett, “Have you ever faced discipline or entered into a settlement related to this kind of conduct?”

The question raised eyebrows, particularly considering that, in the midst of Kavanaugh&#8217;s confirmation process, Senator Dianne Feinstein announced that she&#8217;d received a letter from an anonymous constituent detailing Dr. Christine Blasey Ford&#8217;s claim that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her during a beach party when the pair were in high school. Ford eventually went public with her allegations in an interview with The Washington Post.
Kavanaugh denied Ford&#8217;s allegations, which had no independent verification, and, in a special session of the Senate Judiciary Committee, related his side of the story under oath and refuted several other, less substantiated, allegations. He was eventually confirmed to the Supreme Court by a party-line vote.
The initial letter to Feinstein was a surprise to Kavanaugh&#8217;s team, and Hirono&#8217;s line of questioning left some commentators concerned that Hirono plans a similar sneak attack on Barrett.
&#8220;Hirono noted that she asks those two questions of all nominees who come before committees on which she sits,&#8221; Fox News said.
Hirono eventually went back to an extended diatribe on the subject of abortion legislation and Barrett&#8217;s use of the term &#8220;sexual preference&#8221; to refer to Supreme Court decisions concerning same-sex marriage and employment discrimination, letting the sexual assault question hang in the air.
Earlier in the day, Barrett said she expected a high level of scrutiny once her nomination to the Supreme Court was made official.
“I don’t think it’s any secret to any of you or to the American people that this is a really difficult, some might say excruciating, process,” Barrett said in a morning interaction with Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC). “And Jesse and I had a very brief amount of time to make a decision with momentous consequences for our family. We knew that our lives would be combed over for any negative detail, we knew that our face would be a caricature and we knew our family would be attacked.”
