<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie had a </span><a href="https://www.today.com/video/matthew-perry-s-family-opens-up-one-year-after-his-sudden-death-222825541553"><span style="font-weight: 400;">conversation</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> with Perry’s mother, Suzanne Perry, stepdad Keith Morrison, and sisters Emily, Caitlin, and Madeleine Morrison.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“[To light up a room is] something you’re born with or you’re not born with. And he was certainly born with it in spades,” Keith, who is a “Dateline NBC” host, said of Perry.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“But it must be said, I think, that he was also very lonely in his soul,” Perry’s mom Suzanne added. “I’m a very lucky woman, but there was one glitch. There was one problem that I couldn’t conquer,” Suzanne continued. “I couldn’t help him.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“You’ve got to stop blaming yourself because it tears you up,” the grieving mom said.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It was always a jubilant thing when he would come over,” Perry’s half-sister Caitlin told Guthrie. “Even when he was struggling in dark times we were always proud of him. We were always proud of the fact that he kept fighting and that he made it a big focus of his life to help other people.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Emily agreed, saying her half-brother “was grumpy all the time but he was funny all the time.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“All he ever wanted was to love and to be loved. He struggled so much to feel peace. And I think he got to a place where he did,” she said.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Perry had gone into detail about his lifelong struggle with addiction in his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.” The “Friends” star estimated that he had spent about $9 million trying to get sober.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“What he taught the world was that no amount of money will cure an addict. It needs something else. And that’s what we are trying to do,” Keith said, mentioning that he believed Perry was sober prior to his death. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Although, you know, he was a guy who would make decisions. ‘I can handle this. I can do this. I can tell you what’s right. I know the whole system inside and out. I know what the drug will do to me.’ And so there was that worry of, ‘What is he really doing?&#8217;” he said. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Suzanne also talked about Perry&#8217;s final days. “He went through a period, interestingly enough just before he died, when he was showing me one of his new houses,” Perry’s mom told Guthrie. “He came up to me and he said, ‘I love you so much and I’m so happy to be with you now.’ It was almost as though it was a premonition or something. I didn’t think about it at the time but I thought, ‘How long has it been since we’ve had a conversation like that? It’s been years.’”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She continued, “I think there was something. There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly. But he said, ‘I’m not frightened anymore.’ And it worried me.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Five people were arrested in August, including Perry’s assistant, doctors, and Jasveen Sangha, an alleged drug dealer known as the “Ketamine Queen.” Sangha and Dr. Mark Chavez, who pleaded guilty in exchange for cooperating with the feds, will go on trial in March 2025.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’m thrilled,” Perry’s mother said of the trial. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“What I’m hoping, and I think the agencies that got involved in this are hoping, that people who have put themselves in the business of supplying people with the drugs that will kill them are now on notice,” Keith Morrison said. “It doesn’t matter what your professional credentials are, you are going down, baby.”</span></p>

<p>Multiple people were arrested on Thursday morning over the overdose death of actor Matthew Perry.</p>
<p>Law enforcement sources <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/matthew-perry-ketamine-death-drug-charges/story?id=111460149" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> ABC News that five people &#8211; including two doctors &#8211; have been charged in connection with Perry’s unexpected death at the age of 54.</p>
<p>No information about the people arrested has been made public, but law enforcement sources told the outlet that they have been charged with conspiracy to distribute ketamine, which was found at high levels in Perry&#8217;s system. The indictment, obtained by ABC, alleges that the doctors were the initial sources of Perry&#8217;s supply, but officials believe the drug became too expensive, so Perry found new sources, including a woman known as the &#8220;Ketamine Queen of Los Angeles.&#8221;</p>
<p>Those arrested will also be charged with the death of an unnamed person referred to only as C.M. More information is expected later Thursday during a press conference.</p>
<p>The “Friends” star was found face down in his hot tub on October 28, 2023, at his home in Pacific Palisades. The L.A. County Medical Examiner’s office determined he drowned but attributed his death to ketamine, which Perry had been taking as part of a therapy. The levels of ketamine found in his system, however, were so high they were close to the range that would be used for general anesthesia during surgery.</p>

<p>“At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression,” the report said, according to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/matthew-perry-death-dea-lapd-criminal-investigation-ketamine-1235905358/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.</p>
<p>Another contributing factor was buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid addiction.</p>
<p>Perry has been open about his struggles with addiction, even writing about his excessive drug use in a tell-all memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” which was published one year before his death.</p>
<p>In the book, he wrote about using ketamine, which is a dissociative anesthetic with hallucinogenic properties that is used in experimental treatments to help with depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, chronic pain, and more.</p>
<p>“I often thought that I was dying during that hour. Oh, I thought, this is what happens when you die. Yet I would continually sign up for this s*** because it was something different, and anything different is good,” Perry wrote.</p>

<p>In late May, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lapd-dea-launch-criminal-investigation-into-matthew-perrys-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched a joint criminal investigation</a> to determine how Perry was able to get so much of the drug into his system.</p>
<p>At the time, Former CIA and FBI special agent Tracy Walder <a href="https://pagesix.com/2024/07/06/celebrity-news/matthew-perrys-death-will-expose-hollywood-drug-dealing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Page Six that multiple people could be charged and explained that Perry’s death could be connected to a drug ring.</p>

We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply. He was such a part of our DNA,” Aniston began.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She next referenced the “Friends” crew, who also included David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc. “We were always the 6 of us,” she continued. “This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aniston went on, “For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh. As he said himself, if he didn&#8217;t hear the ‘laugh’ he thought he was going to die. His life literally depended on it. And boy did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard. In the last couple weeks, I’ve been pouring over our texts to one another. Laughing and crying then laughing again. I’ll keep them forever and ever.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Matty, I love you so much and I know you are now completely at peace and out of any pain,” her post concluded. “I talk to you every day… sometimes I can almost hear you saying ‘could you BE any crazier?’ Rest little brother. You always made my day…”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As part of her tribute, Aniston shared a black and white photo of herself sitting with Perry and laughing. She also posted a screenshot of their text conversation referencing the photo with a quote from her late friend that said, “Making you laugh just made my day.”</span></p>
