America’s higher education system is in the midst of a historic reckoning. The compact that existed for generations between our republic, the American people, and our institutions of higher learning has irrevocably broken down. Universities once dedicated to the pursuit of truth and academic excellence have become centers of radical political indoctrination—all while being generously subsidized by hardworking American taxpayers.
Americans of both parties, college-educated and non-college-educated, have lost faith in our universities at a staggering pace. A September 2025 Gallup poll revealed an astonishing trend; only about one-third (35 percent) of Americans today think that a college education is “very important.” That’s a rapid drop from 2019, when 53 percent of Americans agreed with that proposition. In 2010, it was 75 percent.
This hasn’t happened in a vacuum. Colleges and universities across the country have actively undermined their standing in the public imagination. They have chosen to embolden the most radical members of their faculty and staff. They have forced the divisive and discriminatory “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) regime as gospel. They have proactively silenced and canceled students and teachers who disagree with the groupthink progressive political agenda.
Just look at the data. Democrat faculty outnumber Republicans by at least eight-to-one at any major university. And political bias isn’t the only troubling issue. More than one-third (34 percent) of college students now say “using violence to stop campus speech” is acceptable. This is an absolutely stunning statistic and even more disturbing after the nation saw the horrific footage of Charlie Kirk’s assassination on a university campus during one of his iconic college tours where the main purpose of the event was to engage in respectful discourse and peaceful debate. Many on the Left, including some Democrat elected officials, viciously celebrated the loss of this young man’s life, saying it was somehow justified and deserved. This is a deeply disturbing and dangerous turning point for our national fabric and political culture.

Activism has come at the cost of education. Students are not learning the skills in the classroom that once defined a college graduate. Not only are they showing up academically unprepared, but they are leaving uneducated, unemployable, radicalized, and deeply out of touch with American values. Approximately one-third of college students require remedial classes before they begin earning credits. But once they start taking classes, grade inflation is worse than ever. They know less, but get better grades, than previous generations. More than 60 percent of college students admit to cheating.
Meanwhile, college tuition has increased at a preposterous rate as the value of a degree has declined. The average college student leaves school saddled with $40,000 of debt. A mere 30 percent of 2025 college graduates found entry-level jobs in their chosen field, while nearly half felt unprepared even to apply for entry-level jobs.
The American people are smart. We know that something has gone catastrophically wrong, and we are tired of being asked to foot the exorbitant bill on autopilot for a broken system that morphs students into anti-American zealots.
This didn’t happen overnight. The tremors leading up to this earthquake have offered warning signs for decades. An education system that was the envy of the world is now facing questions of its importance, quality, and meaning. A course correction is long overdue—so overdue, in fact, that the questions are no longer about minor improvements and reform; they have become existential. Questions such as: Are American colleges educating or indoctrinating? Can higher education even be reformed, or do we need to completely rebuild it from scratch? What is being taught in the classrooms, and why? When colleges and universities lose their way, how do we hold them accountable? How much foreign money is funding American higher education? Is a traditional college education even remotely worth the absurdly out-of-reach tuition price tag? Are these “elite” colleges and universities even worth saving? Americans are right to ask these hard questions. And the toughest questions are being posed to the most “elite” schools.
The most prestigious colleges and universities in America make up what is known colloquially as the Ivy League. The Ivy League, nestled in the Northeast and scattered across New England, is made up of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Brown, and Cornell. While each university has its own distinct character with unique qualities, these institutions taken as a group have historically been considered the bellwether and compass of American higher education. They set the standards and norms that other universities aspire to achieve, not just in the United States, but around the world.
Historically, Ivy League colleges were known for their institutional prestige, academic excellence, esteemed faculty, rigorous and extremely selective admissions processes, groundbreaking research, and extraordinarily successful alumni networks. Attending an Ivy League school was supposed to guarantee professional success for graduates. They were the crown jewels of the entire higher education system worldwide. For generations, admission to an Ivy League school meant winning a golden ticket to the American dream.
Today, that once-pristine reputation has been sullied. Most Americans understand the Ivy League schools as something different. Instead of bastions of knowledge and vibrant intellectual life, they are considered hotbeds of radical ideology, groundless elitism, intellectual laziness, and anti-American hatred. The reputation of these schools has declined dramatically. It has been poisoned.
This process of institutional decay, almost entirely self-inflicted, culminated in a once-in-a-generation congressional hearing on antisemitism with university presidents in December 2023. This was the moment Americans decided that enough was enough. Our universities were failing us and our next generation of leaders.
At that hearing, a single line of questioning revealed the depths of the moral and academic rot in higher education. The presidents of Harvard, University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) were asked to testify before Congress on the wave of antisemitism on their campuses after Hamas’s terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023. One question went viral and quickly became the most viewed congressional testimony in United States history. It was truly the hearing heard around the world. 
I know because I asked the question. 
“Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate your university’s code of conduct on bullying or harassment?” This was not a political question. It was a moral one. I thought it would be the easiest, most straightforward question of the hearing. I assumed their answers would be a resounding yes. But to my shock, the presidents of MIT, UPenn, and Harvard, arguably the most prestigious universities in the world, answered one after another deadpan and nearly verbatim: “It depends on the context.” And the world heard.

Their morally bankrupt answers astonished everyone who heard them, including me. These university presidents were supposed to be some of the most learned, intelligent people in America, if not the entire world. They were the people responsible for teaching the next generation of leaders in every field imaginable. They were the leaders of the most prestigious universities in the world. My immediate reaction was apparent to everyone watching. I couldn’t hide my shock. I questioned them further, asking them to elaborate on what they meant—giving them an opportunity to correct the record and state the obvious. And still, they refused to give a clear statement. They refused to state clearly that calling for the genocide of Jews violated their universities’ codes of conduct.
I knew immediately that this was a significant hearing. I didn’t realize in the moment, however, that it would become a historic earthquake that instantly reshaped the debate on higher education overnight. The hearing changed the trajectory of higher education. In the weeks and months that followed, campuses exploded into riotous antisemitic encampments. Subpoenas poured into campuses as Congress opened multiple investigations. Scandal-plagued university presidents and compromised trustees resigned. Campus chaos shaped a presidential election.
Today, as a result of this hearing, elite campuses are in the midst of a generational upheaval. Governance structures are in question. Faculty and curricula are under scrutiny. Billions of dollars in foreign funding have been exposed. The long-standing relationship between the federal government and universities is being revised. Matriculation trends are shifting. Nothing is the same.
Nor should it be. Our hearing reset the course of American higher education. It was a reset that I firmly believe was long overdue.
This book tells the inside story of what is happening on America’s campuses and why. It goes in depth, with an insider’s view, into the deep moral and intellectual rot in higher education. What began as a question about antisemitism triggered a watershed moment.
In the long term, the hearing lit the match for not only accountability, but a far-reaching educational reform movement that has only just begun. This very dark chapter for American colleges and universities can and must lead to light at the end of the tunnel. Our institutions of higher learning have fundamentally lost their way. They strayed far from their founding missions and grew nearly unrecognizable. But that does not mean that the American people have to settle for this rotted and poisoned status quo.
We can and must fix our higher education system and return our colleges and universities to their founding mission. It is within the American people’s power to correct when these schools fundamentally lose their way. And it is our responsibility to ensure that we are educating and not indoctrinating our next generation of leaders. Our colleges and universities should promote academic excellence, intellectual inquiry, and our nation’s highest ideals, not left-wing indoctrination, heinous antisemitism, and anti-Americanism. That’s why it is important to look at what went wrong in this particular moment in history in painstaking detail. By seeing where and why our most elite schools failed, we can chart a better course for the future.

A professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, widely respected for his work in plasma physics and fusion energy, was <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/mit-professor-shot-killed-home-boston-suburbs-officials/story?id=128460718">fatally shot</a> in his home in the Boston suburb of Brookline, Massachusetts, authorities said this week, in a killing that has stunned the academic community and remains under investigation.
The professor, Nuno F. G. Loureiro, 47, was found late Monday night at his residence with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Tuesday, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. No arrests have been announced, and prosecutors said the homicide investigation was ongoing.

Law enforcement officials said they had examined whether the killing could be connected to a separate mass shooting at Brown University over the weekend, but a senior official briefed on both cases said there was no indication the incidents were related. The FBI echoed that assessment.

In a statement, MIT’s president Sally Kornbluth described Dr. Loureiro as an “imaginative scholar, gifted administrator, and enthusiastic mentor,” calling his death a “shocking loss” for the university. “Our hearts go out to his wife and family, and to his many devoted students, friends, and colleagues,” she said.
Dr. Loureiro grew up in central Portugal and studied physics in Lisbon before earning a doctorate at Imperial College London. He conducted research at leading fusion laboratories in the United States, Britain, and Portugal before arriving at MIT. His work focused on magnetic reconnection and plasma turbulence, and he published widely in scientific journals. In January 2025, he received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.
Students and colleagues gathered quietly near his home on Tuesday to pay their respects, local news outlets reported. The U.S. ambassador to Portugal, John J. Arrigo, also issued a statement honoring Dr. Loureiro’s leadership and contributions to science.
“It’s not hyperbole to say MIT is where you go to find solutions to humanity’s biggest problems,” Dr. Loureiro said last year when he was named to lead the plasma science center. “Fusion energy will change the course of human history.”

Mysterious Murder Of MIT Nuclear Physicist Leaves Community Shaken

Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/courtorders/011325zor_5425.pdf">declined</a> to hear a challenge to New York’s “Taylor Law,” which gives unions monopoly bargaining privileges in the public sector. At best, the Court missed an opportunity to protect the First Amendment; at worst, the Court endorsed Marxism.
We are Jewish academics who have been forced to accept the “exclusive representation” of unions that we consider anti-Semitic. One of us, a professor at the City University of New York, <a href="https://www.nrtw.org/goldstein/">brought the eponymous challenge</a>, Goldstein v. Professional Staff Congress/CUNY. The other, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, similarly <a href="https://www.nrtw.org/news/jewish-mit-students-eeoc-03212024/">filed federal charges</a> against the MIT Graduate Student Union. Both unions engage in the anti-Israel “Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions” movement (BDS), which we vehemently oppose.
At CUNY, the faculty union in 2021 <a href="https://2022.psc-cuny.org/sites/default/files/Final_Resolution_in_Support_of_the_Palestinian_People.pdf">condemned Israel</a> “dating back to its establishment as a settler colonial state in 1948.” At MIT, the graduate student union in 2024 <a href="https://mitgsu.org/resolutions/ceasefire">called for</a> “an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza,” without mentioning Hamas or the hostages they still hold. The resolutions compare Israel to apartheid South Africa — ironic, given that the unions treat objectors like us as second-class citizens without voting privileges.
One need not share our opposition to BDS to see that these unions cannot represent us at the bargaining table. Yet that is exactly what is happening. Had the Supreme Court taken up Goldstein, the Justices could have struck down the Taylor Law on the grounds that it violates employees’ freedom of speech and association. Instead, the Court let stand the Second Circuit&#8217;s <a href="https://www.fairnesscenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Second-Circuit-Goldstein-v.-PSC-Decision.pdf">ruling</a> that “Designating PSC as Plaintiffs’ exclusive bargaining representative does not impermissibly burden Plaintiffs’ ability to speak with, associate with, or not associate with whom they please, including CUNY and PSC.” In other words, it is permissible to subordinate individual rights to collective interests — classic Marxism.
The Supreme Court knew this when it declined to take the case. An <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/24/24-71/323009/20240821101037349_240806a%20AC%20Brief%20for%20efiling.pdf">amicus brief</a> supporting the petitioners, filed by the Upper Midwest Law Center and the Manhattan Institute, cites the MIT Graduate Student Union as an example of the problem: “Jewish students are being compelled to associate with and implicitly endorse these views despite their most sincere religious beliefs, so they filed discrimination charges with the EEOC.”
The outcome of those charges was that religious students at private universities could divert their union dues to charity, but they would still be subject to exclusive representation. Public employees, including CUNY professors, already have the right to opt out of union dues under Janus v. AFSCME, but they too remain subject to exclusive representation by a union they abhor. While the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/17pdf/16-1466_2b3j.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recognized</a> in Janus that “Designating a union as the employees’ exclusive representative substantially restricts the rights of individual employees,” the validity of exclusive representation was not squarely before the Court — until Goldstein, which the Justices declined to hear.
The result has been predictable. Ten days after the Court denied the petition, the CUNY faculty union adopted a <a href="https://psc-cuny.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/PSC-and-NYCERS-Israeli-Investments-Divestment-Resolution-1-23-25.pdf">resolution</a> “expressing its support for complete disinvestment from Israel,” further resolving to “divest its own funds from any investment vehicle that includes in its portfolio stocks and bonds of Israeli companies and Israeli government bonds.” In response, a Jewish civil rights organization <a href="https://x.com/_SAFECAMPUS/status/1884323681675141318">filed a complaint</a> with the New York State Division of Human Rights, arguing that the union “has abandoned their sacrosanct Duty of Fair Representation.” Under Janus, “That duty is a necessary concomitant of the authority that a union seeks when it chooses to serve as the exclusive representative of all the employees in a unit.”
There is another way. New York and other states could amend their labor laws to give employees the right to opt out of union representation. Unions could thus continue to engage in BDS, but not on behalf of those who oppose it. Additionally, the states could adopt laws that give private employees the right to work without paying compulsory dues to unions that they oppose. Twenty-six states already have such a law, which Congress could extend to all fifty states by passing the National Right to Work Act.
The Soviet Union put up a physical wall to keep people in; New York’s labor law puts up a legal one. If unions are as good as they claim to be, they should not need to compel representation or financial support. To borrow a phrase: Governor Hochul, tear down this wall!

The percentage of black students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has plummeted in the wake of the end of affirmative action.
The incoming freshman class this fall is only 5% black, down from an average of 13% in recent years, MIT <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-08-21/mit-reports-drop-in-black-student-enrollment-for-incoming-class?cmpid%3D=socialflow-twitter-billionaires&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_content=billionaires&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&amp;utm_medium=social" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Wednesday.
Hispanic students are also down to 11% from 15%, the school said.
Previously, about 25% of MIT undergraduates were black, Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander, but that number has dropped to 16% for the incoming class.
Meanwhile, Asian American students are up to 47% from 41%, making up nearly half of the entire class of 2028. The percentage of white students stayed about the same at 37%.
Last summer, the Supreme Court declared considering race in admissions unconstitutional in a landmark ruling that targeted the affirmative action admissions programs at Harvard and the University of North Carolina.
Students for Fair Admissions, the group that sued over affirmative action, pointed to the high test scores of Asian-American and white applicants who were rejected.
MIT’s dean of admissions, Stu Schmill, said Wednesday that the school has expanded its recruitment and financial aid initiative to &#8220;further improve access to the Institute for students from all backgrounds.&#8221;
&#8220;Despite these initiatives, and as we expected, there was still a decline in the proportion⁠ of enrolling first-years from historically under-represented racial and ethnic backgrounds⁠,&#8221; the dean said.
&#8220;If MIT cannot find a way⁠ to continue to draw on the full range of human talent and experience in the future, it may threaten the qualitative strength of the MIT education, both by a relative reduction in the educational benefits of diversity and by making our community less attractive to the best students from all backgrounds,&#8221; Schmill <a href="https://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/mit-after-sffa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in a blog post.
A majority of Americans, 62%, oppose race-based college admissions, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/most-americans-think-college-admissions-should-not-consider-race-reutersipsos-2023-02-15/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to a Reuters poll last year.
Around the time of the court&#8217;s decision, universities scrambled to find other ways to diversify their student bodies.
Some schools moved away from using standardized test scores in the admissions process as the argument that standardized testing harms minority students picked up steam. Previously, a low SAT or ACT score meant automatic elimination at most top-tier schools.
Last year, Columbia University <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/universities-scrap-sat-scramble-to-stay-diverse-ahead-of-affirmative-action-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">became</a> the first Ivy League school to permanently scrap its standardized test requirement, allowing hopeful applicants to skip the dreaded SAT and ACT.
Some schools are also <a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-affirmative-action-college-admissions-1d37af28939a533551cff45fa577ceb0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">considering</a> requiring more essays for admission to get a better idea of a student’s background, while others plan to recruit students from minority areas or admit more students transferring from community colleges.
Back in 1995, the University of California System Board of Regents banned affirmative action so UC <a href="https://edsource.org/2020/dropping-affirmative-action-had-huge-impact-on-californias-public-universities/642437" target="_blank" rel="noopener">adopted</a> roundabout ways of trying to identify minority students, such as through poor neighborhoods and family income.

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology student testified before Congress on Tuesday, detailing that current labor laws failed to protect him from pervasive antisemitism inside his union, which he is required to be a member of.
“I’ve tried to use the law as it exists and at every turn, the law has failed me,” MIT graduate student William Sussman said. The computer science doctoral candidate cited numerous examples of MIT Graduate Student Union (GSU) staffers occupying buildings, being arrested, and passing a “ceasefire resolution” that did not mention the words “hostages,” “Hamas,” or “peace.”
“The blood had not yet dried when my colleagues at MIT declared ‘Victory is Ours,’”’ Sussman said, referring to a student group <a href="https://x.com/KassyDillon/status/1711355798016643312">sharing an advertisement</a> of an anti-Israel rally one day after Hamas’s massacre of more than 1,000 Israelis on October 7. 
The “Confronting Union Antisemitism: Protecting Workers from Big Labor Abuses,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KmoAtJzWk4">hearing</a> held by the House Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions comes amid unions across the country <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/turning-classrooms-into-arenas-of-radicalism-teachers-union-tasks-anti-israel-activist-to-create-curriculum-about-israel">engaging in</a> anti-Israel political activism including passing one-sided resolutions, organizing protests, and persecuting Zionist members.

According to Sussman, he was denied a request to have a religious accommodation that would use his compulsory union dues to fund a charity instead of the union’s political activity.
“The union denied my request, telling me in a letter that ‘no principles, teachings or tenets of Judaism prohibit membership in or the payment of dues or fees to a labor union,’” he said, adding that the union “thinks it understands my faith better than I do.”
Sussman is not the only union member who recently grew disenchanted with their union, according to Glenn Taubman, a staff attorney at the National Right to Work Foundation who also testified. 
“The phones are ringing off the hook like never before,” Taubman told The Daily Wire. “I am being called every day by lifelong liberals, lifelong union people, who were mugged by reality.”
He said he is working full time on cases accusing the union of anti-Semitism. 
“I’ve been fighting union compulsion for more than 40 years, but we’ve never fought anti-Semitic union compulsion,” Taubman added. “This is a whole new beast that basically did not exist until all of these unions decided they were going to be pro-Hamas and pro-terror after October 7.”
Sussman filed a charge against the union to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) which agreed his rights were violated. Eventually, the union began approving religious accommodations after five discrimination charges.
Sussman is one of six MIT graduate students being represented by the National Right to Work Foundation in federal proceedings against the GSU.
Calling himself a “lifelong Democrat,” Sussman advocated for a National Right to Work Act “so that unions have to earn their dues and think twice before discriminating against minorities.”
“Jewish graduate students are a minority at MIT,” Sussman said. “We can’t remove the GSU or disabuse it of its antisemitism. But we also can’t support an organization that actively works toward the eradication of the Jewish homeland, where I have family living now.”
During the hearing, Taubman read messages he received from union members at the City University of New York (CUNY) claiming nails were found in Jewish members&#8217; tires, malicious campaigns were launched to Zionist members fired, and discussions were held about observant Jews being “undesirable for membership.”  
“This is virtually Nazi-like from out of the 1930s,” Taubman said. “That’s what these people are seeing on their campuses.”

Massachusetts Institute of Technology students residing in the anti-Israel encampment were offered two options today: leave the encampment, or stay and face suspension.

As the deadline passed, most students had cleared the encampment, though a handful of individuals remained, according to Daily Wire sources on the ground at the university. 
Students who agree to swipe their ID card for a time stamp and voluntarily leave will be given a written warning to not further violate any policies. If students who have already been sanctioned by the school leave by the deadline, it will be seen as a “significant mitigating factor” when the school reviews their case.
For those who do not leave and have not yet faced sanctions, they will be placed on “academic suspension” and be barred from classes, exams, or research activities until the end of the semester but will be allowed to live in their dorms and use dining halls. Those who are sanctioned will be required to leave campus entirely. 
“You will also be prohibited from participating in commencement activities or any cocurricular activities,” Nobles wrote. “You will also not be permitted to reside in your assigned residence hall or use MIT dining halls. You must leave campus immediately, but you will continue to have access to services at MIT Health.”

MIT president Sally Kornbluth shared the letter, writing that she decided the university must “take action to bring closure to a situation that has disrupted our campus for more than two weeks.”
“I know many of you feel strongly that the encampment should be allowed to continue indefinitely – that the protest is simply a peaceful exercise of the right to free expression, and that normal rules around campus conduct shouldn’t apply in the face of such tragic loss of life in Gaza,” she wrote.
She explained that the encampment situation is disruptive and “highly unstable.”
“And no matter how peaceful the students’ behavior may be, unilaterally taking over a central portion of our campus for one side of a hotly disputed issue and precluding use by other members of our community is not right,” Kornbluth wrote.

She added that people unaffiliated with the college are getting involved and planning protests and that MIT staff and police have had to work to “defuse several tense confrontations.”
On Friday after the Israeli American Council held a pro-Israel rally across the street from the encampment, some pro-Israel demonstrators tried to enter the encampment. In one interaction, Harvard Divinity Student, Shabbos Kestenbaum, wea denied entry until police escorted him in.
“I want to let all of you know that you’re not going to intimidate Jewish people,” he told the campers. “You can hide behind your masks as long as you want, we will not be scared.”
In a video inside the encampment that went viral over the weekend, anti-Israel protesters chanted “from water to water, Palestine is Arab” and “from water to water death to Zionism.”

Jewish MIT student Talia Khan who has been at the forefront of raising awareness about the anti-Israel sentiment taking over her campus welcomed MIT cracking down on the encampment.
“I am grateful to see that MIT is finally stepping up and enforcing its rules for the first time in 6 months,” she told The Daily Wire. “I truly hope that it follows through. Only time will tell if Sally really has a spine.”

MIT Threatens To Suspend Any Anti-Israel Protesters Who Fail To Leave Encampment

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Jewish university student needed a police escort to enter the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s anti-Israel encampment on Friday.
Shabbos Kestenbaum, a student at Harvard Divinity School, spoke at a pro-Israel rally across the street from the encampment hosted by the Israeli American Council before deciding to cross the street and enter the encampment.
Kestenbaum walked up to the encampment and was denied entry by a keffiyeh-wearing man blocking the perimeter of the protest. Police eventually agreed to escort him into the encampment, according to video taken by The Daily Wire. 
“I want to let all of you know that you’re not going to intimidate Jewish people,” he told the campers. “You can hide behind your masks as long as you want, we will not be scared.”

“All of you should be ashamed of yourselves,” he added. “This is the state of being Jewish in America, I need police to exercise my First Amendment right.”
Kestenbaum is a student at Harvard University, but spoke at the MIT counter-demonstration in support of Jewish students there.
“After delivering a speech imploring Jewish students not to be afraid of their antisemitic classmates, I crossed the road to exercise my First Amendment rights and enter the pro-Hamas encampments,” Kestenbaum told The Daily Wire. 
“Protestors formed a human chain to keep me out, and initially refused to allow me in even after police asked them to,” he added. “Eventually, I required a personal police escort to walk through the encampment, all the while being followed by pro-Hamas terrorist students.”
Kestenbaum, along with other Harvard University students <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jewish-students-sue-harvard-for-failing-to-stop-anti-semitism-while-threatening-discipline-for-fatphobia">filed a lawsuit</a> against the Ivy League in January, accusing it of selectively enforcing its policies to avoid protecting Jewish students from harassment and enabling anti-Semitism.
“Whether it’s Harvard, MIT, Columbia, or anywhere else, antisemitic thugs have taken over college campuses,” Kestenbaum said. “They have no respect for the First Amendment or religious freedom and should be immediately thrown out of any university they currently illegally occupy.”<a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/05/IMG_7389.heic"><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-732743" src="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/05/IMG_7389.heic" alt="" /></a>
MIT erected fences around the encampment ahead of the pro-Israel rally across the street and had a heavy police presence on Friday afternoon near the encampment. Outside of the encampment, Jewish demonstrators sang songs, and waved American and Israeli flags.
Many pro-Israel and pro-America flags were hung on the new fences around the encampment, as well as signs mocking the encampment. One such sign read, “In this camp they believe: Propaganda is truth, resistance is justified, rape is resistance, harassment is free speech, Israelis are not human, martydom is glorious.”
Inside the encampment, students had many of their own signs, including labels on tents with locations in Israel including Tzfat, Jaffa, and Haifa.

Julca’s social media accounts reveal her involvement in anti-Israel activism on campus, including a December post of her holding a sign stating, “Indigenous is a global term &amp; Palestinians are indigenous. Zionism = Genocide.”
An MIT student who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution from peers said there are concerns that Julca will dissuade future Jewish students from applying.
“The employment positions for students in the admissions office are meant for interacting with future students and showing what it’s like to be an MIT student day-to-day,” the student said. “By choosing this person out of many other possible student candidates, MIT has shown that it wants to showcase rule-breaking students and make it clear that anti-Israel students who praise Hamas martyrs represent a popular and normal viewpoint on MIT’s campus.”

In November, Julca shared a video of an anti-Israel protest that was counter-protested by pro-Israel students.
“No matter where the protests happen, hateful and aggressive pro-Israel protesters appear,” Julca’s video states. “MIT what will you do?”
In March, Julca <a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid02S9x3Ay6vnJDhvJ2YDy6ggRbhWRfBJuC39w1YewsZgTEgLjXat44AzZf3V1LxYvcNl&amp;id=100011358462729" target="_blank" rel="noopener">encouraged peers</a> to vote anonymously in a referendum for a ceasefire in the war between Hamas and Israel by sharing graphics that accuse those who oppose it of being “complicit in the murder of people in Gaza.”
“If you are more concerned with policing the movement for a Free Palestine than calling for an end to the Genocide in Gaza—you are complicit in upholding a system which dehumanizes, overpolices and jeapordizes [sic] the safety of Black and brown people, minoritized genders, indigenous peoples and every person fighting for a free Palestine,” the shared graphic states.
The graphic adds that the backers call for an end to Israeli military war research and that they “believe in the cause for Palestinian liberation.”
“It does not require any stake in the matter or take any risk to anonymously vote for a ceasefire, if you are an undergraduate at MIT use your privilege a vote yes on MIT UA referendum #2,” Julca wrote in her post.
The referendum passed last month, with 1,209 votes in support and just 688 opposed, <a href="https://thetech.com/2024/04/04/2024-ua-elec-res" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to The Tech</a>.
A few days later, <a href="https://archive.ph/ErIdP" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Julca advertised</a> an anti-Israel lunch event to “honour the martyrs of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.”
Prior to her anti-Israel activism, the engineering student received the <a href="https://archive.ph/EhsW6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2021 Coca-Cola Scholars</a> $20,000 scholarship for creating a supportive environment and mentorship for girls pursuing a computer science education.
MIT did not respond to a request for comment.

Anti-Israel MIT Student Touts New Gig In Admissions Office As ‘Queer, Indigenous, Pro-Palestine Activist’

A graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who recently testified about how anti-Semitism is engulfing her campus will attend the State of The Union address on Thursday as a special guest of Speaker Johnson.
Talia Khan said the high-profile invite sends the message to universities failing to take action against anti-Semitism that Jewish students can&#8217;t be silenced.
“I’m grateful that Speaker Johnson is showing that he is listening to the Jewish students on campuses and taking our concerns seriously by inviting me to the State of the Union,” Khan told The Daily Wire. “It is an important message to universities that they cannot continue to try to silence us.”
Khan, the daughter of a Jewish mother and an Afghani Muslim father, spoke at a House Education and Workforce Committee panel with other students across the country who testified to rising anti-Semitism on their campuses since Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israeli civilians. During the panel, Khan described how she has become traumatized on campus by violent chants, mobs taking over student pathways to class, and an unhelpful administration.
“Talia Khan has courageously exposed the pain many Jewish students are experiencing as antisemites and Hamas-sympathizes are supported by Democrat-backed university administrators,” Johnson said in a statement. “I’m proud to have Talia join me as my guest for the State of the Union as House Republicans stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters against antisemitism.”

“Jews are forced to tiptoe around, being careful to follow all rules to a T, hiding our Jewish clothing and symbols, while anti-Israel students and faculty bring outside mobs and continue to break rules, uninhibited by the feckless MIT administration,” Khan said. “I am left scared and vulnerable, as the MIT administration repeatedly intimidates me and other Jews into taking our Israeli flags down from our offices, though we still see Palestinian flags, and flags representing other nationalities and identities, waving freely around campus.”
Khan also pointed out that all of the members of the faculty anti-Semitism advisory council resigned.
“The faculty who took part on the faculty antisemitism advisory committee grew so tired of being discounted and ignored by Kornbluth’s administration that every single one resigned.”
A detailed <a href="https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/CP/File.php?F=F_3dEKqVIfYlDJ5um">32-page report</a> written by professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Lionel C. Kimerling documented numerous incidents that validate Khan’s claims.
According to Khan, anti-Semitism on campus is causing a brain drain and national security threats.
“For America to maintain its status as the most innovative country in the world, we must ensure safety for all in our leading academic institutions, like MIT,” she said. “Losing great minds at MIT to shelter terrorism supporting student groups is a national security threat, and everyone on and off campus should be concerned.”
She added that she was thankful to Johnson for the invitation and that she wants the country to see supporting Jewish students as a nonpartisan issue.
“The rampant antisemitism we are now seeing on campuses all across the country reflects a deep moral rot at the core of our nation’s higher educational institutions,” Khan said. “Those attacking Jewish students not only hold dangerous and unacceptable antisemitic views, but also harbor attitudes completely antithetical to American values.”

Elise Stefanik&#8217;s (R-NY) office released a statement this week ripping into the NBC sketch comedy show &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; for its <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-new-low-snl-wrecked-for-skit-mocking-elise-stefanik-in-college-anti-semitism-hearing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">widely-panned cold open</a> on the recent congressional hearing on anti-Semitism on college and university campuses across the country.

During the hearing, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/university-of-pennsylvania" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Pennsylvania</a> President Liz Magill refused to acknowledge that calling for the genocide of Jews violates UPenn’s code of conduct on bullying and harassment. She resigned from her position on Saturday, mere hours before the SNL sketch aired, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/penn-president-liz-magill-out-after-disturbing-remarks#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported.

In the same hearing, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/their-statements-were-abhorrent-backlash-to-harvard-penn-mit-presidents-on-anti-semitism-continues-even-after-they-backtrack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard University President Claudine Gay</a> was similarly questioned about whether calling for the genocide of Jews violates Harvard’s codes of conduct. She <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/their-statements-were-abhorrent-backlash-to-harvard-penn-mit-presidents-on-anti-semitism-continues-even-after-they-backtrack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> by saying that it depends “on the context.” Gay added that calling for genocide is “at odds with the values of Harvard” and that when that kind of “speech crosses into conduct, that violates our policies.”
The sketch, however, portrays Stefanik as unhinged for pressing the collegiate leaders on the issue, while those in academia were handled by the SNL team with kid gloves and largely presented as reasonable.

Conservatives online quickly reacted to the SNL sketch. Conservative Emily Zanotti, for example, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-new-low-snl-wrecked-for-skit-mocking-elise-stefanik-in-college-anti-semitism-hearing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X, “I mean, I get that SNL is typically a mess, but how do you watch that hearing and come out of it thinking Stefanik was the right target of satire?”
Radio host Rob Carson commented, “If there is no truth in satire, it’s not funny. This isn’t funny.”
“How to explain SNL siding with Ivy league (sic) neo-racists? Wondering what colleges their writers attended,” Fox News host Greg Gutfeld wrote.
