Massachusetts Institute of Technology students residing in the anti-Israel encampment were offered two options today: leave the encampment, or stay and face suspension.
In <a href="http://links.mit.edu/nl3/uIOqQjeSSSDJdTVzaf72yQ?m=AUUAAEAirOkAAcrtIx4AAAA8rC0AAAAAGqoAJds3AAiQzwBmORQIkJS2ESWMQxezQjNZUZc0ZwAIIWc&amp;b=0417d8f6&amp;e=b5b76cf7&amp;x=Emty2kPoijDLUwsR3im7oQ">a letter</a> from Chancellor Melissa Nobles, students were told to leave the encampment by 2:30 P.M. or face suspension. As the deadline passed, most students had cleared the encampment, though a handful of individuals remained, according to Daily Wire sources on the ground at the university. 
Students who agree to swipe their ID card for a time stamp and voluntarily leave will be given a written warning to not further violate any policies. If students who have already been sanctioned by the school leave by the deadline, it will be seen as a “significant mitigating factor” when the school reviews their case.
For those who do not leave and have not yet faced sanctions, they will be placed on “academic suspension” and be barred from classes, exams, or research activities until the end of the semester but will be allowed to live in their dorms and use dining halls. Those who are sanctioned will be required to leave campus entirely. 
“You will also be prohibited from participating in commencement activities or any cocurricular activities,” Nobles wrote. “You will also not be permitted to reside in your assigned residence hall or use MIT dining halls. You must leave campus immediately, but you will continue to have access to services at MIT Health.”

MIT president Sally Kornbluth shared the letter, writing that she decided the university must “take action to bring closure to a situation that has disrupted our campus for more than two weeks.”
“I know many of you feel strongly that the encampment should be allowed to continue indefinitely – that the protest is simply a peaceful exercise of the right to free expression, and that normal rules around campus conduct shouldn’t apply in the face of such tragic loss of life in Gaza,” she wrote.
She explained that the encampment situation is disruptive and “highly unstable.”
“And no matter how peaceful the students’ behavior may be, unilaterally taking over a central portion of our campus for one side of a hotly disputed issue and precluding use by other members of our community is not right,” Kornbluth wrote.

She added that people unaffiliated with the college are getting involved and planning protests and that MIT staff and police have had to work to “defuse several tense confrontations.”
On Friday after the Israeli American Council held a pro-Israel rally across the street from the encampment, some pro-Israel demonstrators tried to enter the encampment. In one interaction, Harvard Divinity Student, Shabbos Kestenbaum, wea denied entry until police escorted him in.
“I want to let all of you know that you’re not going to intimidate Jewish people,” he told the campers. “You can hide behind your masks as long as you want, we will not be scared.”
In a video inside the encampment that went viral over the weekend, anti-Israel protesters chanted “from water to water, Palestine is Arab” and “from water to water death to Zionism.”

Jewish MIT student Talia Khan who has been at the forefront of raising awareness about the anti-Israel sentiment taking over her campus welcomed MIT cracking down on the encampment.
“I am grateful to see that MIT is finally stepping up and enforcing its rules for the first time in 6 months,” she told The Daily Wire. “I truly hope that it follows through. Only time will tell if Sally really has a spine.”

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Jewish university student needed a police escort to enter the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s anti-Israel encampment on Friday.
Shabbos Kestenbaum, a student at Harvard Divinity School, spoke at a pro-Israel rally across the street from the encampment hosted by the Israeli American Council before deciding to cross the street and enter the encampment.
Kestenbaum walked up to the encampment and was denied entry by a keffiyeh-wearing man blocking the perimeter of the protest. Police eventually agreed to escort him into the encampment, according to video taken by The Daily Wire.

“All of you should be ashamed of yourselves,” he added. “This is the state of being Jewish in America, I need police to exercise my First Amendment right.”
Kestenbaum is a student at Harvard University, but spoke at the MIT counter-demonstration in support of Jewish students there.
“After delivering a speech imploring Jewish students not to be afraid of their antisemitic classmates, I crossed the road to exercise my First Amendment rights and enter the pro-Hamas encampments,” Kestenbaum told The Daily Wire. 
“Protestors formed a human chain to keep me out, and initially refused to allow me in even after police asked them to,” he added. “Eventually, I required a personal police escort to walk through the encampment, all the while being followed by pro-Hamas terrorist students.”
Kestenbaum, along with other Harvard University students <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jewish-students-sue-harvard-for-failing-to-stop-anti-semitism-while-threatening-discipline-for-fatphobia">filed a lawsuit</a> against the Ivy League in January, accusing it of selectively enforcing its policies to avoid protecting Jewish students from harassment and enabling anti-Semitism.
“Whether it’s Harvard, MIT, Columbia, or anywhere else, antisemitic thugs have taken over college campuses,” Kestenbaum said. “They have no respect for the First Amendment or religious freedom and should be immediately thrown out of any university they currently illegally occupy.”<a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/05/IMG_7389.heic"><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-732743" src="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/05/IMG_7389.heic" alt="" /></a>
MIT erected fences around the encampment ahead of the pro-Israel rally across the street and had a heavy police presence on Friday afternoon near the encampment. Outside of the encampment, Jewish demonstrators sang songs, and waved American and Israeli flags.
Many pro-Israel and pro-America flags were hung on the new fences around the encampment, as well as signs mocking the encampment. One such sign read, “In this camp they believe: Propaganda is truth, resistance is justified, rape is resistance, harassment is free speech, Israelis are not human, martydom is glorious.”
Inside the encampment, students had many of their own signs, including labels on tents with locations in Israel including Tzfat, Jaffa, and Haifa.

Julca’s social media accounts reveal her involvement in anti-Israel activism on campus, including a December post of her holding a sign stating, “Indigenous is a global term &amp; Palestinians are indigenous. Zionism = Genocide.”
An MIT student who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution from peers said there are concerns that Julca will dissuade future Jewish students from applying.
“The employment positions for students in the admissions office are meant for interacting with future students and showing what it’s like to be an MIT student day-to-day,” the student said. “By choosing this person out of many other possible student candidates, MIT has shown that it wants to showcase rule-breaking students and make it clear that anti-Israel students who praise Hamas martyrs represent a popular and normal viewpoint on MIT’s campus.”

In November, Julca shared a video of an anti-Israel protest that was counter-protested by pro-Israel students.
“No matter where the protests happen, hateful and aggressive pro-Israel protesters appear,” Julca’s video states. “MIT what will you do?”
In March, Julca <a href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid02S9x3Ay6vnJDhvJ2YDy6ggRbhWRfBJuC39w1YewsZgTEgLjXat44AzZf3V1LxYvcNl&amp;id=100011358462729" target="_blank" rel="noopener">encouraged peers</a> to vote anonymously in a referendum for a ceasefire in the war between Hamas and Israel by sharing graphics that accuse those who oppose it of being “complicit in the murder of people in Gaza.”
“If you are more concerned with policing the movement for a Free Palestine than calling for an end to the Genocide in Gaza—you are complicit in upholding a system which dehumanizes, overpolices and jeapordizes [sic] the safety of Black and brown people, minoritized genders, indigenous peoples and every person fighting for a free Palestine,” the shared graphic states.
The graphic adds that the backers call for an end to Israeli military war research and that they “believe in the cause for Palestinian liberation.”
“It does not require any stake in the matter or take any risk to anonymously vote for a ceasefire, if you are an undergraduate at MIT use your privilege a vote yes on MIT UA referendum #2,” Julca wrote in her post.
The referendum passed last month, with 1,209 votes in support and just 688 opposed, <a href="https://thetech.com/2024/04/04/2024-ua-elec-res" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to The Tech</a>.
A few days later, <a href="https://archive.ph/ErIdP" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Julca advertised</a> an anti-Israel lunch event to “honour the martyrs of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.”
Prior to her anti-Israel activism, the engineering student received the <a href="https://archive.ph/EhsW6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2021 Coca-Cola Scholars</a> $20,000 scholarship for creating a supportive environment and mentorship for girls pursuing a computer science education.
MIT did not respond to a request for comment.

A graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who recently testified about how anti-Semitism is engulfing her campus will attend the State of The Union address on Thursday as a special guest of Speaker Johnson.
Talia Khan said the high-profile invite sends the message to universities failing to take action against anti-Semitism that Jewish students can&#8217;t be silenced.
“I’m grateful that Speaker Johnson is showing that he is listening to the Jewish students on campuses and taking our concerns seriously by inviting me to the State of the Union,” Khan told The Daily Wire. “It is an important message to universities that they cannot continue to try to silence us.”
Khan, the daughter of a Jewish mother and an Afghani Muslim father, spoke at a House Education and Workforce Committee panel with other students across the country who testified to rising anti-Semitism on their campuses since Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israeli civilians. During the panel, Khan described how she has become traumatized on campus by violent chants, mobs taking over student pathways to class, and an unhelpful administration.
“Talia Khan has courageously exposed the pain many Jewish students are experiencing as antisemites and Hamas-sympathizes are supported by Democrat-backed university administrators,” Johnson said in a statement. “I’m proud to have Talia join me as my guest for the State of the Union as House Republicans stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters against antisemitism.”

“Jews are forced to tiptoe around, being careful to follow all rules to a T, hiding our Jewish clothing and symbols, while anti-Israel students and faculty bring outside mobs and continue to break rules, uninhibited by the feckless MIT administration,” Khan said. “I am left scared and vulnerable, as the MIT administration repeatedly intimidates me and other Jews into taking our Israeli flags down from our offices, though we still see Palestinian flags, and flags representing other nationalities and identities, waving freely around campus.”
Khan also pointed out that all of the members of the faculty anti-Semitism advisory council resigned.
“The faculty who took part on the faculty antisemitism advisory committee grew so tired of being discounted and ignored by Kornbluth’s administration that every single one resigned.”
A detailed <a href="https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/CP/File.php?F=F_3dEKqVIfYlDJ5um">32-page report</a> written by professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Lionel C. Kimerling documented numerous incidents that validate Khan’s claims.
According to Khan, anti-Semitism on campus is causing a brain drain and national security threats.
“For America to maintain its status as the most innovative country in the world, we must ensure safety for all in our leading academic institutions, like MIT,” she said. “Losing great minds at MIT to shelter terrorism supporting student groups is a national security threat, and everyone on and off campus should be concerned.”
She added that she was thankful to Johnson for the invitation and that she wants the country to see supporting Jewish students as a nonpartisan issue.
“The rampant antisemitism we are now seeing on campuses all across the country reflects a deep moral rot at the core of our nation’s higher educational institutions,” Khan said. “Those attacking Jewish students not only hold dangerous and unacceptable antisemitic views, but also harbor attitudes completely antithetical to American values.”

Elise Stefanik&#8217;s (R-NY) office released a statement this week ripping into the NBC sketch comedy show &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; for its <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-new-low-snl-wrecked-for-skit-mocking-elise-stefanik-in-college-anti-semitism-hearing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">widely-panned cold open</a> on the recent congressional hearing on anti-Semitism on college and university campuses across the country.
Notably, Saturday&#8217;s cold open bizarrely attacked <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-top-university-presidents-balk-when-asked-if-genocidal-chants-against-jews-violate-codes-of-conduct" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stefanik</a> for asking about students&#8217; calls for Jewish genocide while almost entirely backing off the university presidents, whose disastrous testimonies have already culminated in at least one resignation.
“Elise did not watch it,&#8221; Stefanik senior advisor Alex DeGrasse <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/12/11/entertainment/cecily-strong-was-uncomfortable-with-snl-anti-semitism-sketch/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the New York Post. &#8220;However, her office was flooded with messages from thousands of Americans across the political spectrum — Democrats and Republicans — who were appalled and disgusted by the antisemitic trash spewed by unfunny, morally bankrupt ‘comedians.'&#8221;
“SNL made history with the worst cold open ever because everyone knows there is absolutely no humor in the vile answers from the university presidents regarding their failure to condemn calls for the genocide of the Jewish people,&#8221; DeGrasse added.
During the hearing, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/university-of-pennsylvania" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Pennsylvania</a> President Liz Magill refused to acknowledge that calling for the genocide of Jews violates UPenn’s code of conduct on bullying and harassment. She resigned from her position on Saturday, mere hours before the SNL sketch aired, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/penn-president-liz-magill-out-after-disturbing-remarks#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported.

In the same hearing, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/their-statements-were-abhorrent-backlash-to-harvard-penn-mit-presidents-on-anti-semitism-continues-even-after-they-backtrack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard University President Claudine Gay</a> was similarly questioned about whether calling for the genocide of Jews violates Harvard’s codes of conduct. She <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/their-statements-were-abhorrent-backlash-to-harvard-penn-mit-presidents-on-anti-semitism-continues-even-after-they-backtrack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> by saying that it depends “on the context.” Gay added that calling for genocide is “at odds with the values of Harvard” and that when that kind of “speech crosses into conduct, that violates our policies.”
The sketch, however, portrays Stefanik as unhinged for pressing the collegiate leaders on the issue, while those in academia were handled by the SNL team with kid gloves and largely presented as reasonable.

Conservatives online quickly reacted to the SNL sketch. Conservative Emily Zanotti, for example, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-new-low-snl-wrecked-for-skit-mocking-elise-stefanik-in-college-anti-semitism-hearing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X, “I mean, I get that SNL is typically a mess, but how do you watch that hearing and come out of it thinking Stefanik was the right target of satire?”
Radio host Rob Carson commented, “If there is no truth in satire, it’s not funny. This isn’t funny.”
“How to explain SNL siding with Ivy league (sic) neo-racists? Wondering what colleges their writers attended,” Fox News host Greg Gutfeld wrote.

Former Saturday Night Live (SNL) star Cecily Strong <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12850181/SNL-anti-Semitism-hearings.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> pulled out last minute from performing in Saturday&#8217;s widely-panned cold open, which targeted GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY) for her questions during a recent Congressional hearing on anti-Semitism in colleges and universities instead of the college leaders who were widely criticized for their testimonies.
Strong rehearsed the sketch earlier in the week as Stefanik, according to a <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/cecily-strong-snl-elise-stefanik-cold-open-saturday-night-live/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from The Wrap, but was ultimately swapped for a relatively new cast member named Chloe Troast.
It remains unclear why Strong did not play Stefanik in the final sketch; she has not commented publicly on the matter. There has been speculation that the former SNL star will be back next week when fellow alum Kate McKinnon is set to make her return to host the sketch show.

Magill resigned on Saturday following wide backlash, as reported by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/penn-president-liz-magill-out-after-disturbing-remarks#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a>.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/their-statements-were-abhorrent-backlash-to-harvard-penn-mit-presidents-on-anti-semitism-continues-even-after-they-backtrack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard University President Claudine Gay</a> was similarly questioned about whether calling for the genocide of Jews violates Harvard’s codes of conduct. She <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/their-statements-were-abhorrent-backlash-to-harvard-penn-mit-presidents-on-anti-semitism-continues-even-after-they-backtrack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> by saying that it depends “on the context.” Gay added that calling for genocide is “at odds with the values of Harvard” and that when that kind of “speech crosses into conduct, that violates our policies.”
There have since been calls for Gay to resign from her position. And compounding her problems, the university president is now under fire for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/embattled-harvard-president-claudine-gay-now-under-fire-for-alleged-plagiarism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allegations of plagiarism</a> on her Harvard dissertation.
Conservatives online quickly reacted to the SNL sketch. Conservative Emily Zanotti, for example, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-new-low-snl-wrecked-for-skit-mocking-elise-stefanik-in-college-anti-semitism-hearing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X, “I mean, I get that SNL is typically a mess, but how do you watch that hearing and come out of it thinking Stefanik was the right target of satire?”
Radio host Rob Carson commented, “If there is no truth in satire, it’s not funny. This isn’t funny.”
&#8220;How to explain SNL siding with Ivy league (sic) neo-racists? Wondering what colleges their writers attended,&#8221; Fox News host Greg Gutfeld wrote.

The ground is shifting rapidly beneath elite universities. Once-generous donors have rescinded almost a billion dollars in donations, and this may be only the beginning after the disastrous performance of several Ivy League presidents in a recent congressional hearing. The University of Pennsylvania’s president Liz Magill has already been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/penn-president-liz-magill-out-after-disturbing-remarks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">forced to resign</a>, and Harvard’s Claudine Gay, who is facing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/embattled-harvard-president-claudine-gay-now-under-fire-for-alleged-plagiarism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charges of plagiarism</a>, is likely next. The House Committee on Education and the Workforce has announced a full investigation of Harvard, MIT, and UPenn, which could expand to other schools. It seems that disgust with elite universities is felt almost universally, as everyone from billionaire hedge-funders like Bill Ackman to grandstanding politicians to Elon Musk pile on. 
But it is important to remember that the most significant problems with academia have existed for decades and permeate nearly all universities — elite or not — in the U.S. 
The recent extreme political zealotry of Ivy League campuses should be no surprise to anyone who has spent even a modicum of time at one of these schools, much less so if one has attended a class there. The only surprise in all of this is that it has taken so long for donors to notice there is something seriously, alarmingly amiss at modern American universities.
Even putting aside the current Israel-Palestine controversy, academia has over the past several decades undergone a profound transformation from a classical institution of learning to a laboratory for all manner of “woke” political activism and extremism. Far too many professors and college administrators see themselves as progressive frontline fighters in an ideological war, indoctrinating the young to transform society with radical but empty notions of Critical Race Theory and “DEI”; a victim-focused, infantilizing new MeToo feminism; a naïve Marxism; and an inexplicable hyper-focus on fringe issues like transsexuality. Sit in a modern college class where these sorts of topics are discussed and you will see they are often non-negotiable orthodoxies, not up for actual debate.
It is long past time for the ivory tower’s benefactors to awaken to the reality of what the modern university has become and the effects that experimental, faddish cultural theories floated in university classrooms and campus-wide policies have on society when widely disseminated. As students graduate and attempt to carry those theories into the real world, a kind of woke &#8220;Children of the Corn&#8221; dynamic occurs in which the adults reap what they thoughtlessly sowed to the youth, as those youth now make unreasonable and counterproductive demands on nearly every major societal institution.
Another problem with academia that is now being exposed is its <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kill-dei-to-fight-anti-semitism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegal hiring practices</a>. Nearly all college departments discriminate against whites, men, and heterosexuals in favor of those from “marginalized” groups. Ackman recently reported that Harvard President Claudine Gay was selected in a process in which white male candidates were automatically screened out of contention. This happens for nearly all faculty and staff positions now and has been going on for decades, but in recent years the situation has worsened considerably. 
Often those on hiring committees are told not to document these illegal practices in writing, but in their meetings and deliberations the hiring committee members openly discuss the need to choose a candidate from a marginalized group, and everyone on these committees understands they will bend over backward not to select a straight white man. Yes, straight white men are hired sometimes, but only in cases in which they are so far ahead of the other candidates as to make any other choice blatantly absurd. (And even in some of these absurd cases the lesser-qualified candidate is still chosen, as we see with Harvard’s president.) 
Another issue to underscore here is the political significance of dissertation preferences in faculty hiring. Most hiring committees — particularly in the liberal arts — select candidates based on how fashionable and politically correct their subjects of study are, and this is discerned from their dissertation and publications. Certain topics that are politically incorrect are automatically dismissed. So do not believe for one minute that politics is not a significant factor in hiring decisions.

The problems with academia extend way beyond the campus climate and hiring practices. For example, at most universities half the courses are taught by poorly-paid, part-time adjunct instructors or grad students, nearly all of whom make less money than restaurant waiters. Even at Ivy League schools like Harvard, an unacceptable percentage of courses are not taught by full-time top-tier professors. 
Even more confounding is the administrative bloat in nearly all universities. Over the last two decades the number of administrative positions in academia have exploded — including thousands of new DEI positions, many enjoying salaries in the six figures. Most tuition money, student loans, and donations pay for administrators and buildings, most of these largely superfluous and even counterproductive to real education. 
Shockingly, the deterioration and ideological zealotry of academia did not have a negative effect on its fundraising until now. The money rolled in without slowing, often from staunch capitalists, traditional families, religious individuals, and successful businesspeople who should have been more skeptical of an institution that increasingly generated a distaste for all of those very things.
It is often surprising how ill-informed (and uninterested) most donors are about the deterioration of the academy and the degree to which extreme orthodoxies have infected nearly every aspect of the university, from the classroom to the administration. Sure, there’s still a lot of legitimate learning taking place and some value to the college experience, but it is mixed with considerably more nonsense than it once was and permeated with an ideological agenda that, even when subtle, is almost palpable. And it’s often not very subtle.
If this recent controversy serves as an ideological wake-up call to the ivory tower and to those who pay its bills, that will be a good thing.

The presidents of three prestigious schools are backtracking after their congressional testimony this week on anti-Semitism prompted backlash, but it has not stopped the criticism.
The presidents of Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of Pennsylvania testified to Congress on Tuesday about the rise of anti-Semitic hate speech at their schools.
All three presidents avoided answering whether calling for the genocide of Jews violated the universities&#8217; codes of conduct.
&#8220;It can be, depending on the context,&#8221; Harvard&#8217;s president Claudine Gay said. She said such hate speech is &#8220;at odds with the values of Harvard&#8221; and that when that kind of “speech crosses into conduct, that violates our policies.”
&#8220;I have not heard calling for the genocide for Jews on our campus,&#8221; said MIT&#8217;s president, Sally Kornbluth.
University of Pennsylvania&#8217;s president Elizabeth Magill said, &#8220;If the speech turns into conduct, it can be harassment,&#8221; adding that it is a &#8220;context-dependent decision.&#8221;
Bill Ackman, the billionaire founder of hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management who is also a Harvard alumnus, called for the three presidents to &#8220;resign in disgrace.&#8221;
White House spokesman Andrew Bates <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/12/06/white-house-university-presidents-antisemitism-genocide/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement Wednesday that “it’s unbelievable that this needs to be said: calls for genocide are monstrous and antithetical to everything we represent as a country.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) also <a href="https://twitter.com/SteveScalise/status/1732426006311608512" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> on the presidents to resign, saying that &#8220;their hypocrisy is stunning.&#8221;
Magill addressed the criticism in a video released Wednesday evening.
&#8220;In that moment, I was focused on our university&#8217;s longstanding policies aligned with the U.S. Constitution, which say that speech alone is not punishable,&#8221; Magill said in the video. &#8220;I was not focused on, but I should have been, the irrefutable fact that a call for genocide of Jewish people is a call for some of the most terrible violence human beings can perpetrate. It&#8217;s evil — plain and simple.&#8221;

Gay, Harvard&#8217;s president, put out an even stronger statement on Wednesday.
&#8220;There are some who have confused a right to free expression with the idea that Harvard will condone calls for violence against Jewish students. Let me be clear: Calls for violence or genocide against the Jewish community, or any religious or ethnic group are vile, they have no place at Harvard, and those who threaten our Jewish students will be held to account,&#8221; Gay said.
Kornbluth attempted to express her understanding to critics in an open letter released later on Tuesday after her testimony.
&#8220;After these past weeks, I know many of you are exhausted and hurting. We have to make room for each other, in our hearts and in our daily lives,&#8221; Kornbluth said. &#8220;We cannot and must not let events in the world drive us apart, or erode our respect for each other&#8217;s humanity, or thwart the great mission we&#8217;re here to pursue together.&#8221;

However, many critics are not convinced by the presidents&#8217; attempts to come out more strongly against anti-Semitism.
Criticism of the schools and their leadership continued on Thursday from both Republican <a href="https://twitter.com/theblaze/status/1732812648960381267" target="_blank" rel="noopener">and</a> Democrat lawmakers, journalists, social media influencers, and others.

Apparently responding to the widespread anti-Semitism that has ballooned on campus since the Hamas massacre of 1,200 Israelis on October 7, Palantir Technologies, the data analytics company co-founded by billionaire investor and entrepreneur Peter Thiel, announced on Thursday that they would set aside 180 positions for Jewish students who “fear for their safety on campus and need to seek refuge outside traditional establishments of higher education.”
Palantir’s action follows a day after the presidents of Harvard University, UPenn, and MIT all <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/billionaire-donor-calls-on-harvard-mit-penn-presidents-to-resign-after-they-cited-need-for-context-in-calls-for-genocide-of-jews" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dodged the question</a> of whether calling on their campuses for the genocide of Jews constituted bullying and harassment, citing the need for “context.”
“We at Palantir have been committed to defending the principles that make democratic rule possible since our founding two decades ago,” Palantir wrote. “Our software embodies our values and commitments. These include high performance, efficiency, transparency, fairness, and a rejection of narrow thinking, including fear and skepticism of the other and outright bigotry”
“We believe that these values must be backed up by actions on the battlefield, intellectual and otherwise, given the egregious levels of antisemitism in our society, especially at our most elite educational institutions,” the company continued. “Some of these organizations seem structurally incapable of taking any steps to reform themselves. Students on campuses are terrified and have been instructed by administrators to hide their Judaism.”
Then the company announced their offer: “We are launching an initiative for students who because of antisemitism fear for their safety on campus and need to seek refuge outside traditional establishments of higher education. They are welcome to join Palantir, and we are setting aside 180 positions for them immediately. More details to follow shortly.”

“Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate your code of conduct or rules regarding bullying and harassment?”
This is the question that was asked of the presidents of the University of Pennsylvania, MIT and Harvard on Tuesday in Congress..
Not one president simply answered, &#8220;Yes.&#8221;
High school seniors have a lot on their minds. Beyond the regular trials and tribulations of an American teenager, upperclassmen in high schools across America spend much of their time deciding which college they should attend. The options are vast. The American post-secondary education system is robust and options are aplenty.
But for American Jewish high school students, the question they suddenly need to ask is whether they will be safe on the college campus of their choosing. Unfortunately, the answer at many of our nation’s top universities is unequivocally &#8220;No.&#8221;
This is where we are as a society in America today. The data is as stark as the anecdotal evidence. Even before the outburst of overt and aggressive anti-Semitism on campuses that came after Hamas’ atrocious, inhumane terror attacks on Israeli civilians on October 7, Jewish college students were not feeling safe on college campuses across the country.
The trouble was that before October 7 no one seemed to believe them.
In the school year prior to the October 7 attacks, almost 75% of Jewish college students in American directly experienced anti-Semitism. Anti-Jewish hate crimes led the FBI’s statistics of hate crimes against a religious group by a large margin, even before this school year’s explosion of anti-Semitism. The anti-Semites in and around college campuses often yelled foul when being charged with being anti-Semites and instead often retorted that they were simply anti-Israel, anti-colonialism, or anti-Netanyahu.
In desperate need of finding a cover for their Jew-hatred, college students and professors that engaged in obvious anti-Semitism grasped at proverbial straws to hide behind other supposed social justice issues of the day. Categorizing Israel and the Jewish people as part of the “oppressor class,” they reasoned, allowed them to justify, defend, and even celebrate the mass rape and slaughter of over 1,400 Israeli civilians on October 7.
This asinine and dangerous position is expressed at rally after rally, in opinion pieces published in school papers, in lectures by professors, and on social media. This is the fallacious lens through which so many in academia have decided to view the world. Their faux-intellectualism and moral ineptitude has been exposed since October 7. Since then, professors and college students alike simply call for the end of the Jewish people and/or the Jewish state. They call for slitting the throats of Jews or for a global intifada. Students are harassed and assaulted while walking through campus. Universities, for the most part, allow this all to happen and advise the Jewish students that they should go in through the back door or hide in the library until it is over.
Gone are the days of intellectual debates on college campuses, where viewpoints are expressed and debated. After years of telling professors and students alike that language can be violent, microaggressions are to be challenged, safe spaces must be created for marginalized groups, and equity offices must be established to protect all students, it turns out that none of those platitudes apply to the Jewish community. When it comes to Jews, students and professors seem to have carte blanche to call for their murder, celebrate their mass rape, and to harass and intimidate Jewish students across the country.
Today, many college campuses are more reminiscent of the 1930s Germany, where the Nazis pushed their ideologies, than the American university system that educated so many for the past several decades.
The American people heard three university presidents testifying before Congress about the rise of anti-Semitism on their campuses on Tuesday. The hearing was jaw-dropping. For the most part, these elite university presidents at UPenn, MIT and Harvard, refused to clearly condemn anti-Semitism and seemed almost smug in their responses about calls for genocide of Jewish students on campus. Hiding behind the First Amendment was a convenient, yet legally deficient space to bury their condoning of Jew-hatred.
In short, you may have a constitutionally protected right to say something, but you don’t have a constitutional right to go to these universities. Moreover, there are limits to our constitutional rights. The Second Amendment provides Americans the right to carry a weapon, yet individuals aren’t permitted to carry a weapon on college campuses in almost half the states in our country. Similarly, the First Amendment has well established limitations, including incitement of violence, intimidation and harassment. These limitations are well-established at these universities; they would surely (and justly) expel, fire or discipline students or faculty calling for the mass murder of blacks, gays, or any other group of people.
The university presidents, however, were not making legal arguments; they were simply looking for a place to hide their anti-Semitic policies. Rest assured that these three University presidents are not alone.
American Jewish college students are being subjected to overt hatred, harassment and intimidation in many universities across our nation. The anti-Semitic conduct is coming not only from students, but from staff and faculty, all while being protected by their administrations.
Of course, there are exceptions. Not every school is a hotbed for anti-Semitism in our nation, but that is the point. Jewish high school students today are forced to decide which college is right for them not on the basis of the best academic programs for them, but instead whether the university they want to attend will even be safe for them.
Our tolerance for anti-Semitism in our nation’s institutions, including our universities, must be zero. University boards must hold their presidents and deans accountable. The temperature has risen to intolerable levels for Jews across our great nation, and no place is this more evident than in our nation’s top universities.
Remember, the students of today are our political and social leaders of tomorrow. It is the responsibility of all Americans to make it clear — in no unequivocal terms — that anti-Semitism will no longer be accepted in our institutions. While ending the world’s oldest and most pervasive form of hatred — Jew-hatred — will not be achievable, insuring that our universities protect Jewish students and dispose of rabid antisemitic students, faculty and administrators is a good start.

Jew-Hatred On Campus. Will America Tolerate It?

A group of Jewish alumni from the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mit-presses-students-and-faculty-to-take-radical-lgbtq-101-training">Massachusetts Institute of Technology</a> sent a letter this week to leadership at their alma mater asking them to offer a stronger response to the pro-Palestinian protests that have broken out on campus.
In a <a href="https://jmitalum.org/open-letter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to MIT’s board of directors, President Sally Kornbluth, and Faculty Chair Mary Fuller, the Jewish MIT Committee said that they were “sick” and “distraught” by the “state of affairs” at the university and that the campus had been taken over by anti-Semitism.
“An institution that prizes mathematical rigor and consistency and physical and immutable laws is now wrought by arbitrary and discriminatory double standards. Law-breakers flaunt the law, while law-abiders are shunned and left to fend for themselves,” the letter said.
“Jewish students are blocked from attending classes, and fearful of setting foot on campus. Jewish employees fear bringing their children to MIT Daycare. The law-breaking and rule-defying is explicitly intended as a challenge [to] the presence of Jews at MIT,” the letter continued.
The committee asked leadership that rules about protests, political speech, and civility be enforced and that those who break the laws or campus rules be “promptly brought to justice.”
The committee also asked that an outside entity be allowed to come in and investigate the college’s response to the protests and that education on anti-Semitism be mandated for all staff of MIT.
Kornbluth was one of the school officials <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-top-university-presidents-balk-when-asked-if-genocidal-chants-against-jews-violate-codes-of-conduct" target="_blank" rel="noopener">who testified</a> before Congress on Tuesday about the pro-Palestinian protests that have broken out across college campuses in the wake of Hamas terrorist attacks in October that left 1,200 dead and thousands more wounded.
During her <a href="https://news.mit.edu/2023/president-kornbluth-opening-statement-us-house-committee-1206" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opening statement</a> before Congress, Kornbluth said that her administration was “actively” fighting against anti-Semitism.
“As an American, as a Jew, and as a human being, I abhor anti-Semitism, and my administration is combatting it actively. Since October 7th, my campus communications have been crystal clear about the dangers of anti-Semitism and about the atrocity of the Hamas terror attack,” she said.
Protests on campus have previously <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/hundreds-mit-alumni-petition-school-take-campus-threats-against-jews-seriously" target="_blank" rel="noopener">included</a> chants of &#8220;one solution, intifada revolution&#8221; and &#8220;from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!&#8221;

“I strongly believe there’s a difference between what we can say to each other – that is, what we have a right to say – and what we should say, as members of one community,” Kornbluth said. “Yet as president of MIT – in addition to my duties to keep the campus safe, and to maintain the functioning of this national asset – I must, at the same time, ensure that we protect speech and viewpoint diversity, for everyone, in keeping with the institute’s principles on freedom of expression.”
In the letter, the MIT alumni said that they wanted to help MIT and were waiting for leadership to contact them.
“We are angry and heartbroken at the state of affairs at our alma mater. But we are also committed to fixing MIT. We will go to any lengths to restore MIT to the culture that made it great and beloved by its Jewish alumni,” they said.

‘Angry And Heartbroken’: MIT Alumni Challenge Alma Mater Over Response To Pro-Palestinian Protests

Billionaire Bill Ackman, who gave $26 million to Harvard in 2014, called for the resignation of the presidents of Harvard, UPenn, and MIT after they would not say calling for the genocide of Jews on campus violated their rules against bullying and harassment.
On Tuesday, New York Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik repeatedly asked Harvard President Claudine Gay, University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill, and MIT President Sally Kornbluth whether calling for the genocide of Jews constituted bullying and harassment. They all dodged the question, citing the need for &#8220;context.&#8221;
After noting the question that Stefanik repeatedly asked the university presidents, Ackman wrote, “The answers they gave reflect the profound moral bankruptcy of Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth. &#8230; they gave the same answers over and over again. In short, they said: It ‘depends on the context’ and ‘whether the speech turns into conduct,’ that is, actually killing Jews. This could be the most extraordinary testimony ever elicited in the Congress.”
“The presidents’ answers reflect the profound educational, moral and ethical failures that pervade certain of our elite educational institutions due in large part to their failed leadership,” he continued. “Don’t take my word for it. You must watch the following three minutes. By the end, you will be where I am. They must all resign in disgrace.”
“If a CEO of one of our companies gave a similar answer, he or she would be toast within the hour,” he declared. “Why has antisemitism exploded on campus and around the world? Because of leaders like Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth who believe genocide depends on the context.”
“Throughout the hearing, the three behaved like hostile witnesses, exhibiting a profound disdain for the Congress with their smiles and smirks, and their outright refusal to answer basic questions with a yes or no answer,” he concluded.

During the exchange with Stefanik, Magill said, “If the speech turns into conduct it can be harassment,” angering Stefanik, who fired back, “&#8217;Conduct&#8217; meaning committing the act of genocide? The speech is not harassment? This is unacceptable.”
After Gay was questioned last, agreeing that calling for the genocide of Jews violated Harvard’s code of conduct depending on the context, Stefanik declared, “It does not depend on the context. The answer is yes.&#8221;
Stefanik then said to the three presidents, “And this is why you should resign. These are unacceptable answers across the board.”

Gay: Targeted as an individual; targeted at an individual.
