Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has reportedly told retired Gen. Mark Milley that he is revoking his personal security detail and security clearance following allegations he undermined the chain of command during President Donald Trump’s first term.
Multiple senior administration officials <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/white-house-pulling-gen-milleys-security-detail-clearance-panel-may-face-demotion-retirement">confirmed</a> to Fox News that the Pentagon will remove a second portrait of Milley, meaning his image will no longer be displayed in the building. They also said a newly convened review board will determine whether enough evidence exists to strip him of a star for alleged attempts to “undermine the chain of command.”
One official reportedly said, “There is a new era of accountability in the Defense Department under President Trump’s leadership—and that’s exactly what the American people expect.” The first portrait of Milley was taken down on Inauguration Day last week, just after President Joe Biden granted him a preemptive pardon in one of his final actions in office.
Gen. Milley had been afforded added protective measures after threats were leveled by Iran following the 2020 U.S. drone strike targeting General Qasem Soleimani. The extra security detail was also extended to other top officials, such as John Bolton and Mike Pompeo, following threats of Iranian retaliation. Shortly after President Trump’s inauguration, the security details for these officials were revoked, with many GOP lawmakers expressing concern over Trump’s decision.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, stated that he wished the president would “revisit” the decision affecting John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, and Brian Hook, who served in high-profile national security roles and likely still had legitimate safety concerns.
In addition to serving as the Army’s chief of staff from 2015 to 2019, Milley was still on active duty as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff when he reportedly conveyed private misgivings about President Trump in a March 6, 2023, conversation. According to a newly published book titled &#8220;War,&#8221; Gen. Milley told author Bob Woodward that he believed the then-commander-in-chief was “fascist to the core!”
Another work, &#8220;Peril,&#8221; by Woodward and Robert Costa, separately claimed that Milley called his Chinese counterpart twice during Trump’s first term to help maintain calm between the two nuclear-armed nations.

President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> announced Monday night that he was removing thousands of federal appointees of former President Joe Biden from his administration. 
Trump said that he would eliminate anyone who did not support his “Make America Great Again Agenda.” In a statement on Truth Social, he said four individuals, including former chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, had already been removed, and more announcements were coming. 
“Our first day in the White House is not over yet! My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again,” Trump said. 
“Let this serve as Official Notice of Dismissal for these 4 individuals, with many more, coming soon: Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council—YOU’RE FIRED!” he added. 
Hook previously served as special envoy to Iran under Trump. 
At the end of the first Trump administration, Milley reportedly made secret calls to China, where he promised to warn Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army if Trump ordered a preemptive strike on China. Milley also was a harsh critic of Trump after the January 6 riot and was issued a preemptive pardon by Biden on Monday.

In addition to firing political appointees, Trump signed an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/restoring-accountability-to-policy-influencing-positions-within-the-federal-workforce/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive order</a> on Monday to make it easier to terminate federal employees in policy-making roles. He said this was necessary because of “numerous and well-documented cases of career Federal employees resisting and undermining the policies and directives of their executive leadership.”
“Accountability is essential for all Federal employees, but it is especially important for those who are in policy-influencing positions,” Trump wrote in an executive order. “Principles of good administration, therefore, necessitate action to restore accountability to the career civil service, beginning with positions of a confidential, policy-determining, policy-making, or policy-advocating character.”
Trump issued dozens of executive orders on topics ranging from border security to energy and signed one that reversed nearly 80 Biden-era policies.

Now-former President Joe Biden spent his last few hours in office issuing blanket pardons — which he swore in 2020 that he would not do — to a few select people, most of whom he simultaneously claimed were not guilty of any wrongdoing.
While a number of critics pointed out the fact that Biden had gone back on his word, most voiced concerns about who had received those pardons and what that said about them — and about Biden.

Drew Holden with American Compass noted the disparity in the way that The New York Times had covered the last-minute pardons issued by Biden compared to those issued by President Donald Trump in January 2020.
The former were described by NYT reporter Peter Baker as being issued &#8220;to head off politically driven prosecutions.&#8221; The latter, as described by Maggie Haberman and Michael Schmidt, were intended &#8220;to override courts, juries and prosecutors to apply his own standard of justice for his allies.&#8221;

Biden was asked about Trump potentially issuing preemptive pardons for his closest allies and himself — a move Trump never made. Biden responded by promising that the American people would not &#8220;see in our administration that kind of approach to pardons.&#8221;

The outgoing president said in a statement that his preemptive pardons for Fauci, Milley, and the J6 Committee &#8220;should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense.&#8221;
&#8220;Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment to our country,&#8221; he added.
Biden&#8217;s action on Inauguration Day marks the second time the president has gone back on his word to issue pardons before the end of his term. In early December, the president <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/president-biden-pardons-hunter-claims-son-was-singled-out" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pardoned</a> his son, Hunter Biden, after promising he wouldn&#8217;t take such a step. As Biden pledged to the public that he would not pardon Hunter after his conviction in June, the president was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pardoning-hunter-was-on-the-table-when-joe-biden-said-he-wouldnt-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> discussing a pardon behind the scenes.

President Joe Biden issued pardons on Monday morning to Dr. Anthony Fauci, former U.S. Army General Mark Milley, and members of the Democrat-run January 6 committee just hours before President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s inauguration. 
Both Fauci and Milley were vicious critics of Trump, and previous reporting indicated that Biden would issue the pardons to stave off any potential criminal charges that might be brought against them during a second Trump administration.
“The issuance of these pardons should not be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense,” Biden said in a statement. “Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment to our country.”
Fauci has been criticized for his handling of COVID and the lab leak theory, as well as comments before Congress about gain-of-function research.
 At the end of the first Trump administration, Milley reportedly made secret calls to China, where he promised to warn Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army if Trump ordered a preemptive strike on China. In a statement after the pardons were announced, Milley said he was &#8220;deeply grateful for the President’s action today.&#8221;
&#8220;After forty-three years of faithful service in uniform to our Nation, protecting and defending the Constitution, I do not wish to spend whatever remaining time the Lord grants me fighting those who unjustly might seek retribution for perceived slights,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I do not want to put my family, my friends, and those with whom I served through the resulting distraction, expense, and anxiety.&#8221;
The January 6 Committee members receiving a pardon include former representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, the only Republican members. Both Cheney and Kinzinger were harsh critics of Trump and voted to impeach him over the January 6 riot. Additionally, the pardon applied to &#8220;U.S. Capitol and D.C. Metropolitan police officers who testified before the Select Committee.&#8221;
“These are exceptional circumstances, and I cannot in good conscience do nothing,” Biden said. “Even when individuals have done nothing wrong — and in fact have done the right thing — and will ultimately be exonerated, the mere fact of being investigated or prosecuted can irreparably damage reputations and finances.”

Retired Army General Mark Milley — who most recently served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff — has accepted teaching positions at two prestigious universities.
According to a <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/02/13/retired-mark-milley-georgetown-princeton-faculties" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Axios, Milley will be instructing students at both Princeton University — his own alma mater — and Georgetown University in subjects relating to national security.
Milley attended Princeton, where he graduated in 1980 and received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. His return to the school will see him acting as a Charles and Marie Robertson visiting professor through the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA).
According to a statement from Princeton University, Milley &#8220;will serve as a guest lecturer, meet with students, engage with alumni and faculty, and provide input on the School&#8217;s Security Studies Ph.D. program.&#8221;
Dean Amaney Jamal praised the decision, saying that Milley&#8217;s &#8220;experience in the nation&#8217;s capital as well as abroad in conflict zones&#8221; would provide excellent context for his students in the coming year. His appointment at Princeton is set to expire in June of 2025.

The latest recruiting numbers from the United States Army have shown a precipitous drop-off in white recruits over the last several years – and among other factors, some insiders are blaming &#8220;partisan attacks against the military for its efforts to recruit and support a diverse force.&#8221;
According to a <a href="https://www.military.com/daily-news/2024/01/10/army-sees-sharp-decline-white-recruits.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> published Wednesday by Military.com, white recruits were down 6% from 2022 to 2023 alone — and had dropped off by double digits since 2018, when just over half (56.4%) of all Army recruits were classified as &#8220;white.&#8221; In 2023, 44% of all Army recruits were classified as &#8220;white.&#8221;
In real numbers, there were 44,042 white recruits in 2018 — and that fell to just 25,070 in 2023. Recruiting numbers have decreased overall during that same period, resulting in the Army <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/more-pronouns-less-recruits-u-s-military-facing-unprecedented-recruiting-crisis-under-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">failing to meet</a> its recruiting goal of 55,000 in 2023 — but non-white demographics have seen increases by percentage over those same years.
Between 2018 and 2023, black recruits are up 4% (from 20% to 24%), and Hispanic recruits have risen 7% (from 17% to 24%). The overall numbers have not risen dramatically, but because white recruits have decreased in such numbers, other demographics now make up a larger percentage of the overall recruiting pool.
The Army has been working to encourage recruiting efforts and told Military.com that they could not nail down one specific cause — instead, they &#8220;pointed to a confluence of issues for Army recruiting, including partisan scrutiny of the service, a growing obesity epidemic and an underfunded public education system.&#8221;

One other factor, they told the outlet, was the increase in &#8220;partisan&#8221; criticism of the military overall as it worked to embrace and implement <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/read-less-about-white-rage-more-about-not-losing-wars-hillbilly-elegy-author-rips-top-u-s-general" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)</a> into both recruitment and retention across all branches of service.
The suggestion was that conservative media outlets and legislators, by attacking the military&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/female-military-recruit-forced-to-shower-with-two-trans-identifying-men-considered-resigning-senator-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">adoption of &#8220;woke&#8221; policies</a>, had telegraphed to a &#8220;mostly white audience&#8221; that the Army was less attractive a career option than it had been in years past.
&#8220;There&#8217;s a level of prestige in parts of conservative America with service that has degraded. Now, you can say you don&#8217;t want to join, for whatever reason, or bad-mouth the service without any cultural guilt associated for the first time in those areas,&#8221; one Army official told the outlet.

Congressman And Green Beret Explodes On Mark Milley: 'His Retirement Couldn't Come Soon Enough'

General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, insisted that he was not sure what the word “woke” means.
Milley spoke on Sunday with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, who <a href="https://transcripts.cnn.com/show/fzgps/date/2023-09-17/segment/01" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>, “You talk about how the military is not woke. How the military officers should be reading Karl Marx,” then asked, “Is the U.S. military too woke?”
“No, not at all,” Milley initially responded, then continued, “You know, I&#8217;m not even sure what that word truly means.”
“But I would tell you that the military I see is a military that is exceptionally strong, it&#8217;s powerful, it&#8217;s ready,” Milley declared. “In fact, our readiness rate is — the way we measure readiness is better now than they&#8217;ve been in years.”
“This military is a lot of things, but woke it is not,” Milley claimed. “So, I take exception to that. I think that people say those things for reasons that are their own reasons. But it&#8217;s not true. It&#8217;s not accurate. And it is not to say, by the way, that there is — there is not some things out there that are — could be fit into that category. But I don&#8217;t think it certainly is — it is not a broad-brush description of the U.S. military as it exists today.”
In June 2021, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/highest-ranking-u-s-military-official-defends-teaching-crt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">testifying</a> before the House Armed Services Committee on President Biden’s 2022 budget request, Milley defended the reading of Critical Race Theory (CRT) texts by the United States military, asserting, “I&#8217;ve read Mao Tse-Tung; I&#8217;ve read Karl Marx; I&#8217;ve read Lenin. That doesn&#8217;t make me a communist.” Milley claimed he “personally” found it “offensive that we are accusing the United States military, our general officers, our commissioned, non-commissioned officers, of being &#8216;woke&#8217; because we&#8217;re studying some theories that are out there.”
Regarding “white rage,” Milley said, “But I do think it&#8217;s important actually for those of us in uniform to be open-minded and be widely read and the United States Military Academy is a university and it is important that we train and we understand, and I want to understand white rage and I&#8217;m white.”
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/09/United-States-Air-Force-Academy-42.jpg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in September 2022 that Air Force cadets had been instructed not to use gender-specific terms like “Mom” or “Dad” and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bidens-military-forget-mom-dad-use-woke-substitutes-instead-air-force-cadets-told" target="_blank" rel="noopener">replace</a> such terms with words such as “parent” or “caregiver.” That instruction was featured at the Air Force Academy in Colorado as part of cadets’ “Diversity and inclusion (D&amp;I) training.” “Our leaders have deemed D&amp;I a warfighting imperative,” the cadets were told.
In July 2021, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) started by saying to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, “Mr. Secretary, I have received, along with Congressman Crenshaw, several hundred whistleblower complaints about Pentagon extremist and diversity training. I just want to share a small selection of what your troops are saying.”
He followed by citing reports of a military history training session being replaced with mandatory training on police brutality, white privilege, and systemic racism; instructions to a member of Special Operations that “The U.S. Special Operations community is racist”; a general officer telling an Army officer that “the entire U.S. Army is racist”; a midshipman at the Naval Academy attesting that classmates were calling America a “fundamentally racist place” and were not challenged by school administrators; an airman saying their unit was forced into a racist exercise called a “privilege walk”; a Space Force officer saying an African-American servicemember said after the training that she would never have joined the military had she known that it was such a hotbed of racism; and a white airman who said he didn’t sign up to be indoctrinated, then filed separation paperwork.

Gen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mark-milley">Mark Milley</a>, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he did not receive any &#8220;illegal&#8221; orders after the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2020-election">2020 election</a>.
Martha Raddatz, anchor of ABC&#8217;s &#8220;This Week,&#8221; noted that <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/07/15/joint-chiefs-staff-planned-stop-trump-coup-over-election-claims/7975643002/">reports</a> &#8220;abounded&#8221; saying that Milley worried former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a> might try to use the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/military">military</a> to stay in power.
&#8220;Were you concerned at any time that you might receive an illegal order after Election Day?&#8221; she asked the general <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYFr5JgVvhc">in an interview that aired on Sunday</a>.
&#8220;I never did receive an illegal order,&#8221; Milley responded. Pressed again if he was at least concerned about it, the top military official added, &#8220;No, you know, I argued the case at various times for alternative courses of action. Never received an illegal order.&#8221;
Reports about Milley and other military officials fearing that Trump might attempt a coup date back more than two years.
At the time, Trump fired back with a statement that said, &#8220;If I was going to do a coup, one of the last people I would want to do it with is General Mark Milley.&#8221; <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/15/mark-milley-feared-coup-after-trump-lost-to-biden-book.html">He also said</a>, &#8220;I&#8217;m not into coups!&#8221;
Trump is now <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/latest-2024-presidential-polling-trump-rises-above-biden-again">running a 2024 campaign</a> seeking another term in the White House, possibly leading to a 2020 rematch against President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden">Joe Biden</a>. Trump is doing so while facing indictments in four criminal cases, including two focused on alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
The former president has denied any wrongdoing, pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces, and claims that politically motivated prosecutors are conducting a “witch hunt” against him.
Milley, who is set to retire in the coming weeks as his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joint-chiefs-nominee-knocks-tubervilles-hold-on-military-promotions">term as chairman</a> of the Joint Chiefs of Staff comes to an end, also said in his interview with ABC that he is not concerned about the prospect of another January 6.
&#8220;No, I&#8217;m not nervous about it,&#8221; Milley said, adding later, &#8220;I don&#8217;t get nervous about a lot of things. I&#8217;ve seen a lot of combat. So I&#8217;m beyond that actually.&#8221;
Pressed on his level of confidence, Milley added, &#8220;I am confident that the United States and the democracy in this country will prevail and the rule of law will prevail. I&#8217;m absolutely confident of that. And these institutions are built to be strong, resilient, and to adapt to the times, and I&#8217;m 100 percent confident we&#8217;ll be fine.&#8221;

A number of Gold Star family members laid into President Joe Biden and members of his administration, calling them out over the disastrous exit from Afghanistan that took the lives of their loved ones.
At an event in Escondido, California — hosted by Mayor Dane White and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) — relatives of the thirteen service members killed by the suicide bomber at the Kabul airport on August 26, 2021, joined together to speak publicly about their experiences.
Issa introduced the event, billed as the Afghanistan Gold Star Families Public Forum, saying that while they had officially allotted five minutes for each family member who wanted to speak, no one was going to enforce time limits as long as the families had something to share.

Issa also made it clear that the ultimate goal was to make sure that such a tragedy never happened again: &#8220;Did they have to die? Could we have done something different? &#8230; I only apologize that we didn’t do it sooner.&#8221;
Then the family members began to speak, and they had little if anything positive to say about Biden and the military leaders who had been a part of the decision-making process during the troop drawdown and withdrawal — and most were absolutely furious that the administration had then insisted the withdrawal had been a &#8220;success.&#8221;
SSG Taylor Hoover&#8217;s mother was among those who spoke, and she said that the blame for her son&#8217;s death rested on Biden, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mark Milley, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and others. &#8220;Incompetent, cowards, evil,&#8221; she said.

Hoover&#8217;s father spoke as well, saying that the Biden administration &#8220;did not uphold their end of that contract.&#8221;
&#8220;This didn’t need to happen in the manner that it did,&#8221; he added, saying that leadership had &#8220;made a conscious decision that made a chaotic and frantic withdrawal from Afghanistan.&#8221;
He went on to call out those leaders, saying that it was &#8220;nothing short of disgusting and ignorant&#8221; that they had turned around and claimed that the withdrawal had been a success. &#8220;I’m calling out Secretary Blinken, Secretary Austin, General Milley &#8230; and ultimately, the president, and do what our son did: and be a grown ass man &#8230; You all need to resign immediately. Our sons and daughters have more integrity in their little toes than all of them combined.&#8221;

Nicole Gee&#8217;s mother said she knew no forum would ever bring her daughter back, but her goal in speaking was to make sure that the service members who came afterward would be treated with the respect earned by the 13 who lost their lives that day in Kabul.
