Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY), the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said on Tuesday that she believes President Donald Trump&#8217;s troop <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-sends-another-2000-national-guard-troops-to-l-a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">deployment</a> in response to the violent anti-ICE protests around Los Angeles is worthy of impeachment.
In a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3VMJlLi9nw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press conference</a> on Capitol Hill, a reporter asked whether the descriptors that Democrats have applied to Trump&#8217;s actions — specifically: &#8220;lawlessness, and unconstitutional, and a violation of human rights&#8221; — would &#8220;rise to the level of impeachment&#8221; and whether they are &#8220;impeachable offenses.&#8221;
Clarke responded in the affirmative.
&#8220;Well, you know, I believe it is. I definitely believe it is,&#8221; the influential Democrat said, &#8220;but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.&#8221;
The president invoked the ire of Democrats for sending National Guardsmen and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles amid violent anti-ICE protests, leading to a legal standoff with California Governor Gavin Newsom, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-sues-trump-over-national-guard-deployment-says-president-manufactured-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sued</a> the Trump administration and is trying to <a href="https://x.com/yashar/status/1932506908461838759" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stop</a> the deployment.
&#8220;Look, if we didn’t get involved, right now, Los Angeles would be burning &#8230; Los Angeles right now would be on fire. And we have it in great shape. I am not playing around,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://x.com/TrumpWarRoom/status/1932477437549425074" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.

When asked about Clarke&#8217;s view on impeachment, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) indicated his party is not ready to go there.
“I&#8217;ve said before, from this podium, that House Democrats aren’t focused on impeachment today,” Aguilar <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59sURASZvos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during another press conference. &#8220;We are focused on holding the president and House Republicans accountable for the policies that attack the basic needs, like health care and food assistance.&#8221;
Some Democrats have tried <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rejected-by-his-own-party-democrat-backs-down-on-forcing-trump-impeachment-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing impeachment</a> during this session of Congress, accusing Trump of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-democrat-moves-to-impeach-trump-over-dastardly-deeds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;dastardly deeds&#8221;</a> and other alleged offenses, but they have all fizzled out as the Republicans who are largely aligned with the president control the House.
But Aguilar went on to suggest an inquiry could be a consideration in the future — if Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman Suzan DelBene (D-WA) leads her party to seize back the House with the midterm elections in 2026.
&#8220;There will be plenty of time, when Suzan DelBene guides us to the majority, for us to exercise oversight where we can ask some very difficult questions [about] the policies that the administration is going currently, but right now that isn&#8217;t our focus,&#8221; Aguilar said.

Topline: Pockets of Los Angeles are still under siege by anti-ICE rioters &#8212; and now the Marines are stepping in.
After a weekend of riots, on Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump deployed hundreds of Marines expected to protect federal personnel and property. They will join the 2,000 National Guardsmen who’ve already been activated. 
The move came as the unrest entered its fourth day. The chaos continued over the last 24 hours with rioters downtown shutting down a highway, setting self-driving autotaxis on fire, and lobbing bricks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks at police. In one incident, rioters smashed out the windows at LAPD headquarters. In another, a number of businesses, including a Jordan sneaker store, were broken into and looted. Dozens of arrests have been made, but violent crowds continued to form overnight, vowing to riot until federal agents cease their deportation raids.
Trump has thus far refused to back down. The president said on Truth Social that he would “deal with the violent, instigated riots in California” and that without his deployment of the National Guard, “Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated.”
However, Republicans have accused many California Democrats of offering tacit support to the rioters while blaming President Trump for the violence:
Governor Gavin Newsom wrote on <a href="https://x.com/CAgovernor/status/1931916549490929862">X</a>, “Donald Trump is putting fuel on this fire. Commandeering a state&#8217;s National Guard without consulting the Governor of that state is illegal and immoral,” and the governor has announced plans to sue the administration for deploying California’s National Guard without permission. In an interview with <a href="https://x.com/DOGE__news/status/1931911364487876934">MSNBC</a>, Newsom challenged Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, to arrest him. “Come after me. Arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy. I don’t give a damn.”
(For his part, Trump responded Monday by saying, “I would [arrest him] if I were Tom. Gavin likes the publicity.”)
Senator Alex Padilla characterized the protests as <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1932081379082129886">“peaceful” and “passionate”</a>. “The vast majority of protesters and demonstrators are peaceful. … When you come into a community like Los Angeles, the way the Trump administration has, you need to expect to be countered with people who are passionate about defending fundamental rights.”
California Congresswoman Maxine Waters falsely claimed on CNN that there has been “no violence,” and later <a href="https://x.com/Mrgunsngear/status/1931839150145069529">taunted</a> members of the National Guard, saying, “What are you gonna do, shoot some kids? You gonna shoot an elected official? If you shoot me, you better shoot straight. I don’t know why you’re in my city … this is Trump.”
The White House has argued these riots are proving their point — that illegal aliens are wreaking havoc on American cities.

Topline: President Trump dispatched National Guard troops to Los Angeles this weekend despite the protests of local Democrat leaders. While disputes over National Guard deployments are unusual, they aren’t entirely unprecedented.
The federal government is typically barred from deploying military resources for law enforcement purposes in the United States – with one exception, found in the Insurrection Act, which says that the military can be deployed to enforce the law or quell rebellion. Constitutionally, its use relies on Congress’s authority to “provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.”
The last time the National Guard was called on to quell riots was, coincidentally, also in Los Angeles, when President George H. W. Bush called them in to crack down on the Rodney King riots. One big difference between 1992 and today is that Bush had the backing of California’s governor and the mayor of L.A. Trump has neither, and that has been a focus of criticism.
California filed a lawsuit against the federal government on Monday, arguing that Trump&#8217;s mobilization of the National Guard violated constitutional procedure and the state’s sovereignty.
“[Trump’s order] abused the federal government&#8217;s authority and violated the 10th Amendment and federal law,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1932142229793239207">said</a>. “As a result, I, in partnership with Governor Gavin Newsom, [am] suing President Trump and asking the court to set aside the president&#8217;s unlawful action federalizing the California National Guard.”
Republicans have largely supported the president’s actions and condemned the ongoing unrest.
“I spent 20 years in the military,” Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-TX) told <a href="https://x.com/RepTonyGonzales/status/1931746619201827272">CBS</a> on &#8220;Face The Nation.&#8221; “I fought in two wars. I fought to give people the freedom to protest whatever the hell they want to. But what we&#8217;re seeing in L.A. are not advocates. We&#8217;re seeing anarchists, and the President of the United States should absolutely put down the mob as soon as possible.”
<h2>Activists Create Anti-ICE Infrastructure</h2>

Topline: The anti-ICE protests sweeping through the Los Angeles area are being promoted and organized by left-wing activist groups, including a prominent nonprofit that receives tens of millions of taxpayer dollars from California.
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, or CHIRLA, has been identified as one of the key financial backers of the ongoing anti-ICE protests. <a href="https://x.com/LauraPowellEsq">Laura Powell</a>, civil liberties attorney and founder of Californians for Good Governance, told The Daily Wire that CHIRLA received $34 million from the state government in 2023, primarily from the California Social Services Department.
“There&#8217;s a rapid response network that was set up that is a coalition of various nonprofits, but [CHIRLA] seem[s] to be the central one because it&#8217;s their phone number that&#8217;s used as this hotline,” Powell said. “People on the street can call in to report when ICE is in the area and then they can deploy people to go to that area …and in some cases interfere with the officer&#8217;s work.”
In addition to tens of millions of dollars from the state government, CHIRLA received $450,000 from the Department of Homeland Security with the assistance of L.A. Democratic Mayor Karen Bass.
An investigation by Californians for Good Governance has also uncovered deep ties between CHIRLA and California’s Democratic establishment.
“Mayor Bass of Los Angeles is very connected to them. They&#8217;ve supported her. She&#8217;s bragged about helping them get federal funding in the past,” Powell told The Daily Wire. “They endorsed Kamala Harris, of course, Gavin Newsom, Adam Schiff. … They can&#8217;t directly endorse candidates because they&#8217;re a 501(c)(3), but they have a 501(c)(4) that they use for those candidate endorsements. They also sponsor a lot of legislation at the state level.”

Some 700 United States Marines prepared to deploy to Los Angeles on Monday, gearing up to relieve some of the 2,000 National Guardsmen who had been in the city since the early morning hours on Sunday.
Just over one hour after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly announced their mobilization, the U.S. Northern Command shared photos of the Marines who were preparing to go.

Defense Department spokesman Sean Parnell followed with an update, saying that President Trump had ordered the deployment of another 2,000 California National Guard troops.

The Trump administration deployed between 500 and 700 U.S. Marines to Los Angeles on Monday to assist the National Guard and local law enforcement as anti-ICE riots blew up in part of the city over the weekend.
CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/la-protests-ice-raids-trump-06-09-25#cmbpf2l0s00003b6mldlq5r1h">reported</a> that 500 Marines from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California were mobilized, while ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/live-updates/la-immigration-protests-live-updates-trump-deploys-2000/?id=122621279&amp;entryId=122667907">reported</a> that 700 Marines from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, California, were sent into the city.
Just before the Marines&#8217; deployment was reported, Trump told ABC News, &#8220;We’ll see what happens&#8221; when asked about the possibility of sending them to L.A.
&#8220;I mean, I think we have it very well under control,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;I think it would have been a very bad situation. It was heading in the wrong direction. It&#8217;s now heading in the right direction.&#8221;
On Saturday, Trump deployed the National Guard to the city, angering Democratic leaders such as Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass. Trump slammed Newsom and Bass for allowing the anti-ICE protests to turn into riots as federal, state, and local law enforcement officers were attacked by agitators slinging rocks and cement and shooting fireworks at them.
One person told CNN that the Marines are expected to relieve some of the 2,000 National Guard troops who have been in the city for two days now. Of the 2,000 National Guardsmen in L.A., only around 300 have been deployed to the streets. According to CNN, Defense Department lawyers are finalizing use-of-force guidelines for the Marines.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said on Saturday that &#8220;active duty Marines at Camp Pendleton&#8221; were standing ready on &#8220;high alert&#8221; in case of escalating violence. The United States Northern Command confirmed that 500 U.S. Marines stood on alert in &#8220;prepared to deploy status&#8221; at Twentynine Palms, California, as news broke that protesters had swarmed onto the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles.

Sortor shared a series of photos and videos showing just how bad things were getting on the streets of Los Angeles. Protesters carrying foreign flags turned on officers who attempted to clear the freeway, throwing objects at them and forcing them to retreat.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced late Saturday night that in addition to the National Guardsmen — who were being deployed to restore order in Los Angeles — he was placing active duty U.S. Marines at nearby Camp Pendleton on high alert.
Hegseth&#8217;s announcement, made via a post on X, came just hours after it was reported that President Donald Trump was deploying a number of National Guard troops as protesters clashed violently with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents across the Los Angeles area.
&#8220;The violent mob assaults on ICE and Federal Law Enforcement are designed to prevent the removal of Criminal Illegal Aliens from our soil; a dangerous invasion facilitated by criminal cartels (aka Foreign Terrorist Organizations) and a huge NATIONAL SECURITY RISK. Under President Trump, violence &amp; destruction against federal agents &amp; federal facilities will NOT be tolerated. It’s COMMON SENSE,&#8221; Hegseth said.

Under normal circumstances, the Posse Comitatus Act prevents the federal government from deploying the military for law enforcement purposes within the United States&#8217; borders, but the Insurrection Act of 1807 — actually a combination of several statutes enacted between 1792 and 1871 — stands as the one major exception to that. Trump could potentially rely on the Insurrection Act when defending his decision to send troops in to quell the unrest in Los Angeles.

It implements Congress&#8217; Constitutional authority to &#8220;provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.&#8221;

The law can be implemented if and when a U.S. president determines that &#8220;unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion&#8221; have arisen such that it becomes &#8220;impracticable to enforce&#8221; U.S. laws and maintain order &#8220;by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings.&#8221;

At a time when the Pentagon is finally waking up to the physical collapse of our armed forces, Texas has a unique opportunity to lead.
In March, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth sounded the alarm with <a href="https://www.defense.gov/News/Releases/Release/Article/4118161/rapid-force-wide-review-of-military-standards/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a directive</a>: Military standards have dangerously eroded. “Our adversaries are not growing weaker,” he wrote. “Our tasks are not growing less challenging.”
He ordered a department-wide review of physical fitness, grooming, and readiness standards and <a href="https://x.com/SecDef/status/1907509325804798454" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recently stated</a>, “For too long, we’ve allowed standards to slip within the ranks for men and women serving in combat MOSs. This is unacceptable and over.”
He also welcomed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the Pentagon, pledging to ensure our warfighters are “healthy and fit to fight.” These moves reflect a growing recognition of the military’s readiness crisis — and that rebuilding a warrior culture requires action, not speeches.
Texas is answering that call.
The Texas Military Forces Health and Readiness Act (House Bill 4993) is a no-compromise legislative initiative to restore physical readiness, health, and resilience in the Texas Military Forces. It aligns with the Department of Defense’s renewed focus on standards and provides a battle-ready model that other states — and even the federal government — can adopt.
<h3>The Current Readiness Crisis And Systemic Failures</h3>

The National Guard plays an increasingly vital dual role: it must respond to domestic crises and be ready to “fight tonight” in peer-level combat operations. Hegseth has emphasized the need to “match threats to capabilities.” But for states like Texas — where the Guard is expected to conduct disaster operations, support border security, and remain deployable worldwide — this mission cannot be met under current conditions.
This isn’t just about pushups. America’s military readiness crisis is real, and it’s gutting our combat capability across the force. Military readiness isn’t a slogan — it’s the bedrock of deterrence and victory. Yet today, 68% of U.S. service members are overweight or obese, according to a 2023 report by the American Security Project. Fitness-related health costs and lost duty time exceed $1.35 billion annually, directly sabotaging operational effectiveness. That’s bad enough for active-duty forces — but for the National Guard, the situation is catastrophic.
If active-duty service members with full access to resources are struggling, the situation for part-time National Guard forces is even more dire. In Texas, part-time Guardsmen train a fraction of the time compared to Active Duty. They are spread across vast distances, often without access to adequate training facilities, wellness programs, or basic fitness infrastructure. Unlike the Active Duty, the Guard operates with persistent disparities in funding, support services, and oversight. Wellness programs go underutilized, accountability is virtually nonexistent, and time for physical training is painfully limited. The result? A force on the edge of collapse — unfit, underprepared, and unable to meet the demands of today’s missions. This isn’t just a training problem. It’s a strategic liability.
<h3>The Army’s Food Scandal: A Symptom Of The Larger Collapse</h3>
Adding insult to injury is the military’s broken nutrition system. A January 2025 Military.com <a href="https://www.military.com/daily-news/investigations-and-features/2025/02/14/over-151-million-taken-soldiers-paychecks-food-costs-spent-elsewhere-army.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation</a> found that the Army diverted over $151 million in food allowance payments from junior enlisted soldiers, with only 30% of those funds actually going toward meals. At Fort Cavazos in Texas, only $11.7 million of $42.5 million collected went to feed troops. Other bases relied on vending machines stocked with sugary snacks, or served meals of toast and lima beans — or no meals at all.
This isn’t just a logistical failure. It’s a betrayal of the trust and conditions necessary for building a capable, professional fighting force. For the National Guard, already starved of resources and time, this neglect is lethal. This is not a military prepared to win wars — it’s a hollow shell.

HB <a href="https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/billtext/html/HB04993I.htm">4993</a> is a Texas-sized solution to this national crisis. It creates a comprehensive, accountable system to rebuild readiness:

<li>Statewide Fitness Access: State-funded gym memberships and access to certified civilian trainers ensure Guardsmen across Texas can train consistently, regardless of location.</li>
<li>Integrated Digital Platform: Service members get real-time fitness tracking, customized plans, injury prevention, and mental health tools in a secure app.</li>
<li>Comprehensive Wellness Services: The bill funds rehabilitation, nutrition counseling, mental health support, and family-based fitness programs, because force readiness starts at home.</li>
<li>Performance-Based Culture: Structured incentives, advancement pathways, and public recognition will restore the warrior ethos and reward excellence.</li>
<li>Transparency and Accountability: Quarterly reports to the Legislature, corrective action plans, and unit-level oversight. If readiness falters, the system adapts — now, not later.</li>
<li>Minimal Cost, Maximum Return: This initiative delivers a high-impact return at a fraction of the $1.35 billion national fitness-related losses. This is a high-impact, low-cost readiness reform that delivers immediate and lasting results — saving lives, taxpayer dollars, and national security. </li>
</ul>
<h3>Reinforcing National Readiness Priorities</h3>
For too long, the physical and mental health of our service members has been allowed to rot — not because of funding shortages, but because of cowardice, complacency, and a lack of standards. HB 4993 rejects that failure. It embodies the resolve to act decisively and reforge a professional force worthy of the missions it’s expected to carry out.
This is the moment for Texas to lead. HB 4993 supports the national call to “Make America Healthy Again” and hands other states a clear, scalable playbook. The health, fitness, and discipline of our military are not internal HR concerns — they are national security imperatives.
Readiness isn’t negotiable. It’s the prerequisite for effective deterrence, mission success, and survival in a world of growing threats. Texas is doing its part. Now the Texas Legislature must rise to the occasion — and show the nation what readiness, resolve, and responsibility really look like.

QUANTICO, VA—As members of the White House press corps peppered Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt with questions about the high-level Signal chat on Houthi strikes, Vice President JD Vance was landing at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.
Vance, who said he came straight from a meeting with the president, was following through on a visit with members of the United States Marine Corps, the same branch of the military in which he served from 2003 to 2007. The vice president has been very open about how much of an impact this service had on him, writing in his memoir that it “taught me how to live like an adult,&#8221; helping him rise above his challenging circumstances at home in rural Appalachia.
He had no idea how far it would lead him.
&#8220;You all know how big of a part the Marine Corps was of my life and how important it was for me,&#8221; he told the gathered troops, flanked by both an American flag and a USMC flag, just as he is in his White House office. &#8220;And I just wanted to say, from the bottom of my heart, from one Marine to another, thank you for your service. We&#8217;re proud of you, and I&#8217;m proud to be here with my fellow Marines. God bless you guys.&#8221;
Back at home base, reporters grilled Leavitt about the Signal group chat, which The Atlantic&#8217;s Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to. Vance, who has echoed Team Trump&#8217;s defense that the chat did not discuss war plans and that Goldberg is an anti-Trump writer exaggerating the incident, didn&#8217;t bring up the topic in his remarks to the service members.
Instead, he stressed to the Marines that they were forming &#8220;our young people into United States Marines,&#8221; as they had done for him.
&#8220;And that is, I think, the best thing the Marine Corps does for the United States of America,&#8221; the vice president said.

Ahead of the vice president&#8217;s arrival, hundreds of marines gathered at the hanger to hear him speak. They chatted with one another for several hours as they waited for Vance, not a cell phone in sight, laughing and joking and strolling about the space. Major Karen Jensen told reporters that about 750 marines, total, were expected to gather that morning.
Classic rock played loudly from overhead speakers. The marines looked curiously at the media, who sat awaiting the vice president on a riser, and some of the service members opened up about their thoughts on the vice president.
&#8220;It&#8217;s definitely going to be a breath of fresh air to have a marine that&#8217;s second in charge,&#8221; one young marine told The Daily Wire. &#8220;It&#8217;s good to have that representation for us, especially being the smallest branch, just having somebody to look out and understand how we feel as marines, it&#8217;s very important to me.&#8221;
&#8220;Recruitment in the Marine Corps is at an all-time high right now,&#8221; another marine from Georgia shared, asking how the new Trump administration is affecting recruitment. &#8220;A lot of people want to join the military now that we have people that are willing to back the United States.&#8221;

Every marine who spoke with The Daily Wire was proud that the vice president was coming to their base. It&#8217;s a new feeling for many of them: to know they are represented by a man who has walked in their shoes, and who now holds the second most important office in the United States of America.
Lance Corporal Jacob Parker <a href="https://x.com/MaryMargOlohan/status/1904909757607014802">says he didn’t initially know</a> his new vice president was a marine. When he learned the news, he said with a grin, his reaction was, &#8220;Hell yeah.” When asked if the vice president&#8217;s visit motivates him, he told The Daily Wire, “Yes ma’am, I have a lot of motivation in my body going through my veins.”

Lance Corporal Casey Bonestroo, who sat with the vice president while he had lunch with the service members in the chow hall, <a href="https://x.com/MaryMargOlohan/status/1904913777402720750">also told The Daily Wire</a> that she found it &#8220;super motivating&#8221; to &#8220;know that we have a leader in the White House who has been in our shoes.&#8221;
&#8220;He was the one to get down and dirty for our country, the same thing that we are,&#8221; she said.
The vice president&#8217;s arrival drew huge enthusiasm from the assembled marines, who chanted their battle cry, &#8220;Ooh-rah,&#8221; each time he paused his remarks. Vance struck a notable, almost paternal note when he spoke to them: both he, and President Donald Trump, are not only incredibly proud of the Marine Corps — they also love the United States Marines, and they&#8217;ll do anything to make sure they are equipped for their mission.

And in that same tone, Vance shared with the service members how proud he is about the new direction the United States military is headed under Trump&#8217;s leadership. He spoke casually, but to the point.
&#8220;We don&#8217;t care who you are, where you came from. We don&#8217;t care what skin color you are. We care about excellence, and we care about patriotism.&#8221;
&#8220;If you are awesome and you are a patriotic young Marine, then we are going to do everything that we can to make you the most lethal fighting force the world has ever seen, and that is what we&#8217;re doing every single day,&#8221; Vance added.
The United States is done with woke ideology, Vance stressed, and focused on creating warriors.
&#8220;No more quotas,&#8221; he said. &#8220;No more ridiculous mumbo jumbo.  No more diversity trainings.  We believe the real strength and the real diversity in the United States Marine Corps is that you all come from every walk of life, come from every corner of America, and you have got the strength and the purpose to win the nation&#8217;s wars.  And that is what the Marine Corps is going to do, just like it&#8217;s done for damn near 250 years.&#8221;
Vance promised the marines that the Trump administration would invest in them &#8220;like we never have before,&#8221; vowing, &#8220;I promise to you, from the president of the United States, we are going to send you, if we have to send you to war, with the best equipment, the best ammunition, the best weapons.  And we are going to empower you guys to win when you have to.  That&#8217;s the purpose the United States Marine Corps.&#8221;

The visit didn&#8217;t end there. Vance dined with the Marines at the Dwyer Chow Hall, asking the service members where they were from and joking with them about Marine life. And then he headed out to the shooting range, to test some weapon systems that had been prepared for him.
Reporters were told to stay at a safe distance behind barriers and use earplugs to guard their ears from the sounds of the weapons, and photographers huddled close together to get a good shot as the Vice President of the United States lay on his stomach in the dirt and fired off at distant targets.
He laughed heartily after he tested each weapon, clearly enjoying himself, and joked with the marines who walked him through each weapon system, including an M27 5.56 Infantry Automatic Rifle, replicating the Marine Corps annual qualification training, an M107 .50 caliber sniper rifle, and an M240B machine gun. He also tested out a first-person view drone, the Skydio X2D drone from the Marine Corps Attack Drone team from The Basic School.

Shortly before he left, he even tested out the M101 105mm howitzer, a type of cannon.
&#8220;Are we good? No projectiles?&#8221; he questioned before he fired the howitzer, and gestured towards the reporters, joking, &#8220;The media would never let me live that one down.&#8221;
He fired the howitzer, saying delightedly, &#8220;WOW,&#8221; as the weapon resounded loudly throughout the range.
Vance has said the Marine Corps taught him how to be a warrior, showed him that he could run three miles in 19 minutes, and effectively handle weapons and finagle media comms in the media relations office. But he also says that the Marines taught him how to make smart financial decisions, gave him brotherhood with Marines that will last a lifetime, and, most importantly, gave him the courage to face life&#8217;s challenges.
“It was the Marine Corps that first gave me an opportunity to truly fail, made me take that opportunity, and then, when I did fail, gave me another chance anyway,” he wrote.
So, while Wednesday&#8217;s visit to Quantico was inspiring for the Marines, it&#8217;s likely it was even more inspiring to the vice president himself.
“The Vice President is always grateful for the opportunity to speak to our brave service members,&#8221; a spokesman for Vance told The Daily Wire. &#8220;As the first former Marine to serve as Vice President, today was especially meaningful.”
