The annual <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hollywood">Razzie Awards</a> nominations were just announced, with the biopic “Blonde” leading the pack with the most nods.
The Golden Raspberry Awards, usually referred to as the “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">Razzies</a>,” celebrate the worst of what Hollywood had to offer in the last year. 
In 2022, Andrew Dominik’s controversial drama “Blonde” starring Ana de Armas was the best of the worst. The biography about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marilyn-monroe">Marilyn Monroe</a>’s life topped the <a href="https://www.razzies.com/razz-newz.html">nominations</a> with eight nods, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay. Notably, de Armas was not called out for Worst Actress.
Tom Hanks in a live-action version of “Pinocchio” was also identified as being one of the worst. The Oscar-winning star received Razzie nominations for Worst Actor in “Pinocchio,” Worst Supporting Actor in &#8220;Elvis,&#8221; and was further accused of having a &#8220;ludicrous&#8221; accent in &#8220;Elvis.&#8221;
Performing artist Colson Baker, better known by his stage name Machine Gun Kelly, received four Razzie nominations for his work in the film “Good Mourning.” Former “SNL” cast member and comedian Pete Davidson received two nominations, including one for his voice work in “Marmaduke” and another for “Good Mourning.”
Other nominees include Diane Keaton (&#8220;Mack &amp; Rita&#8221;), Penelope Cruz (&#8220;The 355&#8221;), and Sylvester Stallone (&#8220;Samaritan&#8221;).
The Golden Raspberries show will announce the winners in each category on March 11, the day before the Academy Awards ceremony, as it does every year. Nominees and winners are voted on by roughly 1,000 people, including a mix of moviegoers and film industry professionals.
“Blonde” was reviled by critics from the get-go partly because of how the film dealt with topics such as abortion and female empowerment. Dominik shared his thoughts on why his biopic wasn’t embraced by the Hollywood community.
“Now we’re living in a time where it’s important to present women as empowered, and they want to reinvent Marilyn Monroe as an empowered woman. That’s what they want to see,” he said, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/blonde-andrew-dominik-backlash-marilyn-monroe-1235274686/">according to</a> The Hollywood Reporter. “And if you’re not showing them that, it upsets them.”
“Which is kind of strange, because she’s dead,” he continued. “The movie doesn’t make any difference in one way or another.”
The director argued that the miscarriage and abortion scenes, which were criticized for humanizing the unborn child, were only being scrutinized because of the political climate following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
“I think the movie is pretty nuanced actually, and I think it’s very complex, but that doesn’t fit — people are obviously concerned with losses of freedoms, obviously they are,” Dominik <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/blonde-director-says-movie-got-slammed-because-marilyn-monroe-wasnt-shown-as-an-empowered-woman">said</a> following the film’s release. 
“They’ve got a certain agenda where they feel like the freedoms of women are being compromised, and they look at ‘Blonde’ and they see a demon, but it’s not really about that,” he went on. “I think it’s very difficult for people to step outside of the stories they carry inside themselves and see things of their own volition.”

“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">Blonde</a>” director Andrew Dominik claims that American audiences didn’t care for the Netflix biopic because it shattered their illusions of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marilyn-monroe">Marilyn Monroe</a> as an “empowered” woman.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">filmmaker</a> made the comments during the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia. Dominik claimed Americans “hated” his movie because of how he approached the subject matter.
“Now we’re living in a time where it’s important to present women as empowered, and they want to reinvent Marilyn Monroe as an empowered woman. That’s what they want to see,” he said, per <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/blonde-andrew-dominik-backlash-marilyn-monroe-1235274686/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>. “And if you’re not showing them that, it upsets them.”
As for accusations of exploiting and sensationalizing Monroe’s story, Dominik said it wasn’t possible because she’s no longer alive.

“Which is kind of strange, because she’s dead,” Dominik said of the criticism. “The movie doesn’t make any difference in one way or another.”
He continued, “What they really mean is that the film exploited their memory of her, their image of her, which is fair enough. But that’s the whole idea of the movie. It’s trying to take the iconography of her life and put it into service of something else, it’s trying to take things that you’re familiar with, and turning the meaning inside out. But that’s what they don’t want to see.”
Later, the Australian director claimed movies were becoming “more conservative.” Dominik compared current offerings to bedtime stories that are predictable and therefore comfortable. “But I don’t want to make bedtime stories,” he said.
“Blonde” stirred up controversy not just for allegedly “exploiting” Monroe’s legacy, but also for its portrayal of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/planned-parenthood-fumes-over-abortion-scenes-in-marilyn-monroe-flick-blonde">miscarriage and abortion</a>. Though Dominik insisted the Netflix project wasn’t intended to push one particular point of view, many pro-abortion activists thought these emotional scenes had pro-life undertones.
“I think the movie is pretty nuanced actually, and I think it’s very complex, but that doesn’t fit —  people are obviously concerned with losses of freedoms, obviously they are,” the filmmaker told The Wrap just after “Blonde” was released. 
“But, I mean, no one would have given a s*** about that if I’d made the movie in 2008, and probably no one’s going to care about it in four years’ time. And the movie won’t have changed. It’s just what sort of going on.”
Dominik accused critics of looking at “Blonde” “through this Roe v. Wade lens.”

Marilyn Monroe&#8217;s historic chocolate wedding suit skirt — the one she wore when she married baseball great Joe DiMaggio — has gone up for sale and it&#8217;s going to cost you an insane amount if you are hoping to take it home.
Through the &#8220;Gotta Have Rock And Roll&#8217; auction house, fans of the late-Hollywood screen legend can score a piece of history when they bid on the two-piece &#8220;dark brown serge wedding suit, with a white fur collar on the jacket&#8221; that&#8217;s described as in &#8220;very good condition,&#8221; according to the <a href="https://www.gottahaverockandroll.com/Marilyn_Monroe_s_Historic_Wedding_Suit_Worn_at_Mar-LOT46158.aspx">auction site</a>. The starting minimum bid for the suit is set at $1 million.
&#8220;The measurements are as follows: Jacket: shoulder to cuff 20&#8243;, shoulder to waist 19&#8221;, it added. &#8220;Skirt: waist measures 27&#8243;, waist to hem 25&#8243; The jacket has been shortened from the original length by a few inches, the bottom of the jacket has been folded and hemmed.&#8221;
&#8220;A tailor should be able to put the jacket back to its original length,&#8221; the description about the suit continued.  &#8220;Very good condition. Comes with original Sotheby&#8217;s auction catalog, a Gotta Have Rock &amp; Roll Certificate of Authenticity and the original wire photograph that is pictured in the listing.&#8221;
The &#8220;Some Like It Hot&#8221; star and Yankees superstar tied the knot at San Francisco City Hall on January 14, 1954, the <a href="https://www.theknot.com/content/marilyn-monroe-wedding-dress">knot noted</a>.
&#8220;This was the most important wedding in Pop Culture history,&#8221; the description on the auction site read. &#8220;Never before has there been a wedding of this stature of two iconic figures that were the leaders in their fields.&#8221;

Fans can bid on the suit for another 10 days, when the sale runs through December 9.
The wedding suit was originally purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue by &#8220;The Seven Year Itch&#8221; star. She then gifted it to the mother-in-law of Milton Greene. Greene was Marilyn&#8217;s personal photographer.
DiMaggio was Monroe&#8217;s second marriage, but after 274 days the couple called it quits, the outlet noted. Marilyn was previously married for four years to James Dougherty, and after DiMaggio for five years to playwright Arthur Miller.
She died in 1962 of a drug overdose.

&#8220;I’m not surprised to hear that it’s yet another movie fetishizing female pain, even in death,&#8221; Ratajkowski said, despite admitting just as the video began that she had not yet seen the movie herself.
&#8220;We love to fetishize female pain,&#8221; she continued, referencing public obsessions with famous women whose personal struggles had become front page news. &#8220;Look at Amy Winehouse. Look at Britney Spears. Look at the way we obsessed over [Princess] Diana&#8217;s death, the way we obsess over dead girls and serial killers. Watch any &#8216;CSI&#8217; episode and it&#8217;s like this crazy fetishization of death and female pain.&#8221;

&#8220;But I was thinking about it and &#8230; you know what&#8217;s kind of hard to fetishize? Anger. Anger is hard to fetishize. So I have a proposal. I think we all need to be a little more pissed off. I&#8217;m going to be in my witch era. 2022, baby, is my b**** era. I think we should all be in our b**** era,&#8221; she concluded.

Critics agree the newest Marilyn Monroe biopic is like nothing that came before it. Their opinions diverge, however, on whether that’s a good or a bad thing.
Some reviewers claim the movie is too dark, focusing too much on the tragedy of Norma Jean Baker to the point of exploiting her misery. Others find this type of storytelling honest. But one aspect that most leftist reviewers are cringing over is the way “Blonde” deals with abortion and miscarriage. Filmmaker Andrew Dominik is accused of humanizing Monroe’s unborn children and of indirectly attributing her depression to losing them and never becoming a mother.
The writer-director spent more than a decade working on the three hour film, which is based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel of the same name. Cuban actress Ana de Armas has been praised for her performance despite the overall criticism of the movie.
At first, the project made headlines for getting an NC-17 rating. But then some of the more controversial scenes included Monroe’s unborn baby communicating with her. As The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liberal-critics-furious-over-talking-baby-abortion-scene-in-marilyn-monroe-biopic-blonde">reported</a>, one scene shows her pregnant womb glowing in an ethereal light with a clear image of the unborn child.
Then there’s the violence of a forced abortion in a scene where de Armas, as Monroe, screams, “Please, won’t you listen? I’ve changed my mind!” as a doctor inserts the speculum from the point of view of her cervix.
Later, Monroe is pregnant again when her unborn child begins talking to her, asking why she killed the baby last time and asking her not to do it again. She doesn’t, but instead miscarries in a bloody scene. Abortion is depicted as a gruesome affair that often leads to regret. That’s not how the pro-abortion activists want anyone to think about what they insist is a “harmless” medical procedure.
An IndieWire reviewer hated how abortion is portrayed in the film. “‘Blonde’ is a horrific, tone-deaf reminder of why a female perspective should be included, or at least asked for, when writing about abortion,” the reviewer <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2022/09/blonde-ana-de-armas-marilyn-monroe-abortion-rights-1234763103/amp/">shared</a>.
“&#8230;the real trigger warning is for a trio of CGI fetuses asking why Monroe murdered them,” they continued, taking issue with how the movie humanizes the unborn children.
The reviewer describes how even though Monroe “wanted nothing more than to be a parent,” she fears it due to her tough childhood. So she decides to go through with an abortion but sees signs while traveling to the appointment indicating she’s making the wrong choice. Then after changing her mind, she’s forced to go through with the procedure.
“&#8230;The driver doesn’t turn around or even flinch when she starts screaming. Her screams echo through the halls of a hospital as her feet are forced onto stirrups, and the camera follows a DNC tube gliding through her vaginal walls,” the reviewer writes. “The audience is trapped watching this sequence, much like Monroe is held down on the table by the aforementioned tube, and it’s clear Dominik’s comments on offensive content are not about sexual assault but rather surgical assault on the ‘Some Like It Hot’ star.”
In the second abortion scene, it’s implied that Monroe gets pregnant by president John F. Kennedy and is forced into the procedure again.
“His goons kidnap and drug Monroe in the middle of the night; she is convinced the procedure is a horrible dream, but as she wakes up covered in blood smeared all over her abdomen, it’s clear the nightmare is only just beginning,” the reviewer writes. “There would never be that much blood afterward, but that’s not the point: Dominik is determined to shock and disgust, but at what cost?”
The Independent <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/blonde-marilyn-monroe-inside-vagina-scene-b2172446.html">described</a> the talking unborn baby as, “one of the film’s most disturbing bodily sequences.”
A reviewer from The Daily Beast agrees with that assessment, “Lest we want to champion the tortured actress for invoking her right to choose, ‘Blonde’ forces us to see a harsh metal device scrunch its way inward and toward a fetus, terminating it,” they <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/the-marilyn-monroe-blonde-biopic-cgi-talking-fetus-in-is-an-abomination">shared</a>. “The movie clearly—and, obviously, controversially—wants us to believe that the fetus is very much alive.”
When asked if he was pushing a particular viewpoint on abortion, Dominik said he was just trying to represent Monroe’s life as it really was.
“There’s nothing I can do about that,” the film director told The Sydney Morning Herald when asked if he regretted how “Blonde” dealt with abortion in light of Roe v. Wade’s reversal.
“If people are looking at ‘Blonde’ as having a position on abortion, it does have a position and its position is that, if you’re an unwanted child, pregnancy is going to be deeply ambivalent.”
&#8220;There&#8217;s something in it to offend everyone,&#8221; the director promised during an interview with The Guardian.
Ultimately, Monroe’s abortions are nothing more than rumors. The procedure was illegal at the time she reportedly had them and no one knows for sure if she actually had one or several. She certainly wasn’t “shouting her abortion” like modern actresses are so likely to do.
&#8220;Watched by all, seen by none,&#8221; is the movie’s tagline, meant to convey the tortured inner life of one the world’s most revered movie stars. Even though the book and the film take liberties with historical events, there’s a good chance having abortions would have added to the trauma of Monroe’s life. The movie is a dark portrayal of a tortured star that realistically portrays abortion in a strange yet sobering light.
“What the movie is saying is she’s not seeing reality. She’s seeing her own fears and desires projected onto the world around her,” the film director told <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/blonde-anti-abortion-director-response-andrew-dominik/">The Wrap</a> on the question of “Blonde” making a statement on the abortion issue.
“You see it constantly time and again that she’s reacting to a story that she’s carrying inside her. And I think sort of this desire to look at ‘Blonde’ through this Roe v. Wade lens is everybody else doing the same thing. They’ve got a certain agenda where they feel like the freedoms of women are being compromised, and they look at ‘Blonde’ and they see a demon, but it’s not really about that.”
He continued: “I think it’s very difficult for people to step outside of the stories they carry inside themselves and see things of their own volition. And I think that’s really what the movie is about. The dangers of that. But you know, it’s difficult for people to be able to hold two things in their mind at once. It’s either black or white.”
Dominik insists his project doesn’t take a side either way. “I think the movie is pretty nuanced actually, and I think it’s very complex, but that doesn’t fit —  people are obviously concerned with losses of freedoms, obviously they are,” the filmmaker continued. “But, I mean, no one would have given a sh** about that if I’d made the movie in 2008, and probably no one’s going to care about it in four years’ time. And the movie won’t have changed. It’s just what sort of going on.”
“Blonde” is not explicitly pro-life, but because it’s honest, it’s about as close as Hollywood will get to honesty about such a landmine topic.

Liberal critics are furious that the new historical psychological <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">drama</a> “Blonde,” based on the life of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marilyn-monroe">Marilyn Monroe</a>, makes an effort to depict the humanity of unborn babies and the violence of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/abortion">abortion</a>.
The movie was directed by Andrew Dominik and apparently took more than a decade to finish. It got slapped with an NC-17 rating due to graphic nudity and sex scenes, but that’s not necessarily the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/entertainment">content</a> that’s making some critics so upset. Reviewers are appalled by scenes depicting Monroe’s multiple abortions which include the actress’s unborn child speaking to her, begging her not to abort him or her.
Ana de Armas plays Monroe in the film, which debuted in a limited theatrical release on September 16. One scene shows her pregnant womb glowing in an ethereal light with a clear image of the unborn child. This is contrasted with another scene where Monroe is forced into an abortion against her will in an emotional moment full of screaming. “Please, won’t you listen? I’ve changed my mind,” she cries while a doctor inserts the speculum from the point of view of Marilyn’s cervix.
Later, Marilyn is pregnant again and in her garden when the baby kicks her. The unborn child begins talking to his or her mother, asking why she killed the baby last time and asking her not to do it again. She doesn’t, but instead miscarries in a bloody scene.
The Independent <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/blonde-marilyn-monroe-inside-vagina-scene-b2172446.html">described</a> the talking unborn baby as, “one of the film’s most disturbing bodily sequences.”
A reviewer from The Daily Beast takes a similar approach, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/the-marilyn-monroe-blonde-biopic-cgi-talking-fetus-in-is-an-abomination">writing</a>, “Lest we want to champion the tortured actress for invoking her right to choose, ‘Blonde’ forces us to see a harsh metal device scrunch its way inward and toward a fetus, terminating it. The movie clearly—and, obviously, controversially—wants us to believe that the fetus is very much alive.”

Much of the film is devoted to Marilyn’s depression, which is attributed in part to losing her unborn children. Critics can’t stand to see the aftermath of abortion portrayed this way or to allude in any way to the humanity of the unborn child.
Dominik insists that he wasn’t trying to make a statement on abortion but was rather trying to portray reality. “There’s nothing I can do about that,” the film director <a href="https://www.smh.com.au/culture/movies/marilyn-babies-and-blonde-it-does-have-a-position-on-abortion-says-director-20220919-p5bjby.html">told</a> The Sydney Morning Herald when asked if he had any thoughts on those scenes following Roe v. Wade’s reversal. 
“If people are looking at ‘Blonde’ as having a position on abortion, it does have a position and its position is that, if you’re an unwanted child, pregnancy is going to be deeply ambivalent.”
“Blonde” will be available on Netflix beginning September 28.

Superstar Ana de Armas said she did things she &#8220;would have never done for anyone else&#8221; in her portrayal of the late Marilyn Monroe in her upcoming film &#8220;Blonde.&#8221;
During the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/actress-ana-de-armas-says-theres-no-need-for-a-female-bond-no-need-to-steal-someone-elses-character">34-year-old</a> actress&#8217; interview with <a href="https://variety.com/2022/awards/features/ana-de-armas-marilyn-monroe-blonde-netflix-1235377948/">Variet</a>y magazine, the &#8220;Knives Out&#8221; star talked about her portrayal of the screen legend&#8217;s short life, including depictions of sexual violence and degradation in the NC-17 film.
&#8220;I did things in this movie I would have never done for anyone else, ever,&#8221; Ana explained. &#8220;I did it for her [Marilyn], and I did it for Andrew [Dominik].&#8221;
&#8220;We&#8217;re telling her story,&#8221; she added. &#8220;From her point of view. I&#8217;m making people feel what she felt. When we had to shoot these kinds of scenes, like the one with [President John F.] Kennedy, it was difficult for everybody. But at the same time, I knew I had to go there to find the truth.&#8221;
The scene mentioned included Kennedy, played by Caspar Phillipson, forcing her character to perform oral sex on him.

&#8220;I felt from the beginning how much respect he had for Marilyn,&#8221; the actress shared. &#8220;You don&#8217;t pursue and fight so hard for something for over 10 years if you don&#8217;t really believe in that. He was so passionate and sure.&#8221;
At one point, she briefly talked about her experience with paparazzi focused on her brief romance in 2020 with actor Ben Affleck, something she brought back to Marilyn&#8217;s experience.
&#8220;I have never been someone that wants any attention that&#8217;s not about my work,&#8221; De Armas shared. &#8220;So when the attention is not about my work, it is upsetting, and it feels disrespectful, and it feels inappropriate, and it feels dangerous and unsafe. But, especially in this country, I don&#8217;t know how you can find protection. I don&#8217;t know how you can stop that from happening, other than leaving.&#8221;
&#8220;It was one of the things that brought me closer to Marilyn,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Monroe was, after all, serious about performing, even as she was only seen as an object. She loved what she did. She loved the profession, and she respected it very much. She just didn&#8217;t receive that back.&#8221;
The movie, based on author Joyce Carol Oates&#8217; 1999 book by the same name, hits Netflix on September 23.

&#8220;Blonde&#8221; actress <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/marilyn-doesnt-exist-actress-ana-de-armas-looks-unrecognizable-as-she-channels-monroe-in-chaotic-trailer-for-blonde/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ana de Armas</a> said she didn&#8217;t understand why the <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/marilyn-monroes-estate-reacts-to-backlash-over-casting-of-ana-de-armas-as-the-hollywood-legend/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Marilyn Monroe</a> semi-biopic — based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel of the same name — had landed an NC-17 rating.
Internet Movie Database (IMDb) <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1655389/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">describes</a> the Netflix offering — which is slated for release on the streaming platform on September 28 and will debut at the Venice Film Festival in the coming days — as “a fictionalized chronicle of the inner life of Marilyn Monroe.”
“Blonde” will be the first original Netflix film to command an NC-17 rating, and de Armas <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/news/ana-de-armas-blonde-nc-17-rating-explicit-1235355458/">admitted</a> that she wasn&#8217;t expecting the move.
“I didn’t understand why that happened. I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than &#8216;Blonde,&#8217;” she said.“But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did. It needed to be explained. Everyone knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn’t the only one.”
De Armas said that her goal in portraying the legendary blonde bombshell was not so much to copy her but to give her the voice that she may not have had in her lifetime.
“I was interested in her feelings, her journey, her insecurities, and her voice, in the sense that she didn’t really have one,” she said.
Director Andrew Dominik said in May that he had been surprised at the rating as well, telling Vulture that he&#8217;d believed he had “colored inside the lines” of a typical R-rating.
“I was surprised. Yeah. I thought we’d colored inside the lines. But I think if you’ve got a bunch of men and women in a boardroom talking about sexual behavior, maybe the men are going to be worried about what the women think. It’s just a weird time,” he said. “It’s not like depictions of happy sexuality. It’s depictions of situations that are ambiguous. And Americans are really strange when it comes to sexual behavior, don’t you think? I don’t know why. They make more porn than anyone else in the world.”
Dominik also reportedly took issue with Netflix&#8217;s efforts to “curb the excesses” of the film prior to its release.
“&#8217;Blonde&#8217; is a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f***ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office,” he said.

Oscar season is back, even if an increasing number of Americans no longer care about the annual ceremony.
The awards gala deserves all the disdain coming its way, but the movie awards season shouldn’t be dismissed so easily. Some of our brightest filmmakers save their best wares for this time of year, and despite the industry’s woke makeover, the season still delivers some stirring work.
And, in between, a few popcorn blockbusters elbow themselves into the conversation.
Will this fall top last year’s mediocre lineup? Just how much will Identity Politics and other progressive lectures infiltrate the so-called best and brightest fare? The following films hold the key.
“Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul” (September 2, in theaters and Peacock)
Hollywood loves mocking Christianity in any way, shape, or form. It can come via genre fare (“The Purge” franchise) or Oscar-bait films like last year’s “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”).
This year’s entry stars Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall as fallen televangelists trying to rebuild their spiritual kingdom. Does the film grant its broken characters some humanity? Will the screenplay discern solid Christian souls from those eager to swindle their brethren? We’ll see, but a strong theatrical debut could help its Oscar chances.
“God’s Country” (September 16)
This could be the season’s version of “The Hunt,” deliberately poking the “two Americas” bear, or just another progressive screed against Red State USA. Thandie Newton stars as a black professor who runs afoul of two white hunters.
Newton’s film proves subversive in the best sense of the word, acknowledging stereotypes before upending them. Unfortunately, the early reviews from its Sundance Film Festival run suggest a picture that plays down to our expectations. The film “punches up,” critics say, delivering a “bleep you” to the patriarchy.
“See How They Run” (September 16)
The “They Don’t Make ‘em Like This Anymore” crowd could be in for a treat. Oscar winner Sam Rockwell and future winner Saoirse Ronan (would anyone deny that prediction?) star as detectives in ‘50s era London solving a theatrical murder mystery. The comic romp features a great supporting troupe including David Oyelowo, Adrien Brody, and “The Affair’s” Ruth Wilson.
“Don’t Worry Darling” (September 23)
Olivia Wilde proved her directorial bona fides with 2019’s “Booksmart,” which was both absurdly woke and undeniably fun. This time ‘round, she’s playing in one of Hollywood’s favorite sandboxes, the 1950s, eager to show the decade’s glossy exterior didn’t match reality.
Again.
Harry Styles and Florence Pugh headline this psychological drama, which given the era must leave most of Wilde’s woke tics behind. Right?
“Blonde” (September 28, Netflix)
Let’s hope the hype doesn’t overshadow the movie. We’ve already read far too much about “Blonde,” from the casting of Cuban starlet Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe to the buzz about that NC-17 rating. The bigger question is obvious. What’s left to be said about the doomed superstar, one whose iconic beauty has powered countless tributes?
We’ve seen Marilyn Monroe depicted many times already, most recently in the sturdy 2011 drama “My Week with Marilyn,” that there’s seemingly little fresh ground to till. The same could have been said of “Elvis,” but Baz Luhrmann’s summer hit showed a fresh appetite for the rock icon.
“Bros” (September 30)
Comedy is on life support at the theatrical level, at least the bawdy, R-rated romps we once knew and loved. Director Nicholas Stoller of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” fame tries to revive that genre with “Bros,” a gay rom-com starring far-left comic actor Billy Eichner.
Eichner falls for a muscular singleton (Luke MacFarlane) amidst a sea of LGTBQ+ trappings, according to the disappointing trailer. Dethroned comedy king Judd Apatow is on hand as a producer, but the cultural guardrails around humor in the modern era could keep “Bros” from reaching beyond its target audience.
“Amsterdam” (October 7)
Some of our most talented directors take their sweet time between projects. Think Quentin Tarantino, the late Stanley Kubrick and “Amsterdam” auteur David O. Russell of “American Hustle“ fame. He’s assembled a truly all-star cast (Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Chris Rock Mike Myers, Robert De Niro, John David Washington and Michael Shannon) for an ensemble drama centered on soldiers caught up in a murder plot.
“Halloween Ends” (October 14 in theaters and Peacock)
Danny McBride and David Gordon Green delivered a mostly satisfying “Halloween” do-over in 2018, and then followed it up with “Halloween Kills,” the kind of brain-dead sequel that’s all too familiar to horror fans.
Here, the Michael Myers saga is supposed to wrap (as if the industry wouldn’t think of bringing The Shape back in some form). Jamie Lee Curtis makes what should be her swan song in the film, overseen by original “Halloween” director John Carpenter.
“Halloween Kills” showed way too much of Michael Myers. Can “Ends” bring back the sense of awe and mystery, or is that impossible in our short attention span times?
“Till” (October 14)
The suffering and death of Emmett Till are the stuff of American nightmares. The 14-year-old’s death at the hands of unabashed racists is made for a theatrical re-enactment, but the subject matter simultaneously demands the utmost restraint.
As is, the horror story needs no embellishment. Will the filmmakers turn Till’s tragedy into a referendum on race circa 2022? The focus here, and rightly so, is on the boy’s mother. She engaged the ‘50s era system seeking justice, and her journey could yield Oscar-worthy results. Danielle Deadwyler gets the plum assignment of bringing Mamie Till-Mobley to life.
“Black Adam” (October 21)  

Dwayne Johnson has played so many super heroic figures it’s a shock he’s never gone the full Superman until now. “Black Adam” arrives with plenty of fanfare along with the sense that the culture is getting a little bored of grown-ups in tights. Can Johnson bring some vitality to the genre, or will “Black Adam” ding the DC comic’s uneven universe? Just know that Johnson’s caped figure isn’t one of the good guys. The “Black” in Black Adam refers to his soul, Johnson <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/08/who-is-black-adam">clarified</a> to Vanity Fair.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (November 11)
How do you make a “Black Panther” sequel without the titular hero? Director Ryan Coogler stared that question down after the film’s celebrated star Chadwick Boseman died in 2020.
The story behind the sequel, co-written by Coogler, is mostly under wraps. Boseman’s fellow cast mates return, including Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett and Lupita Nyong’o. We’ll also meet Sub Mariner (Tenoch Huerta) and Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), the black female heroine tied to Tony Stark’s iron legacy (and headed for her own Disney+ series).
“She Said” (November 18)
Journalism films have taken on a new, depressing flavor in the modern era. Do we really want to celebrate such a corrupt profession that often slavishly follows the Democratic playbook?
“She Said” can’t fix that problem, but the story follows two journalists who did their jobs so well they helped bring down one of Hollywood’s true supervillains.
Based on the memoir “She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement,” the film tracks New York Times journalists Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) as they get the goods on producer Harvey Weinstein.
It’s only a movie, but let’s hope “She Said” at least touches on Hollywood’s culpability in Weinstein’s crimes (they knew) and how Hollywood reporters suspected his misconduct but didn’t pursue it.
“The Fabelmans” (November 23)
Steven Spielberg remains the most vital filmmaker of our era with a body of work that speaks for itself. His latest film finds him recalling his formative years, a time that convinced an Arizona lad to pick up a film camera and never let go.
The semi-autobiographical film co-stars Seth Rogen, Michelle Williams, and Judd Hirsch. Young Gabriel LaBelle gets the nod to play young Spielberg, here named Sammy Fabelman.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” (December 16)
It’s finally here. Director James Cameron follows up his 2009 smash with the first of four planned sequels. The first film doubled as an eco-lecture, and there’s little evidence Cameron’s eco-hypocrisy will stop him from wagging his finger at us anew.
Few filmmakers can get away with that brand of storytelling like Cameron, though. With classic films like “The Terminator,” “Aliens,” and “Titanic” under his Oscar-approved belt, can anyone dismiss an “Avatar” sequel out of hand?
Then again, the self-described “King of the World” is due for a mighty fall.

The San Francisco-based company, which runs the Yelp.com website that publishes crowd-sourced reviews of businesses, has been attempting to separate crisis pregnancy centers from abortion clinics on the platform since 2018.

Yelp has also recently recategorized thousands of providers as crisis pregnancy centers.
Many crisis pregnancy centers do not offer abortion services and offer women support and material resources instead.
&#8220;After learning about the misleading nature of crisis pregnancy centers back in 2018, I’m grateful Yelp stands behind these efforts to provide consumers with access to reliable information about reproductive health services,&#8221; Noorie Malik, Yelp’s Vice President of user operations, told Axios.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser slammed Yelp&#8217;s move in a statement, saying the &#8220;discriminatory labels&#8221; are meant to &#8220;scare women away&#8221; from getting the resources they need.
&#8220;Shame on Big Tech companies like Yelp for colluding with the abortion lobby in their war on compassionate pregnancy help,&#8221; Dannenfelser said.
&#8220;The abortion lobby meanwhile fights tooth and nail against women’s right to informed consent, including hearing their baby’s heartbeat or seeing an ultrasound,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;If Big Tech’s labels were truthful, they’d highlight all the real services pregnancy centers provide that Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry don’t, such as diapers, formula, clothing, strollers, parenting and childbirth classes, education and career help, and much more – typically free of charge.&#8221;
Passions have been high around abortion access since the weeks leading up to June 24, when the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 landmark decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
Less than a week after Roe was overturned, Google <a href="https://wcti12.com/news/nation-world/new-york-ag-demands-google-remove-crisis-pregnancy-centers-from-search-results-cpc-letita-james-abortion-clinic-pregnancy-healthcare-health-care">came</a> under pressure from New York Attorney General Letitia James, who sent a <a href="https://ag.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2022.06.28_letter_to_google_re_cpcs.pdf">letter</a> urging the tech behemoth to make sure Google Maps searches for &#8220;abortion&#8221; do not bring up local crisis pregnancy centers.
About 64% of Americans, including 70% of Democrats, support publicly funding pregnancy centers, according to an 85 Fund poll conducted by CRC Research. When poll participants were shown what services pregnancy centers offer, 74% said they supported funding them.
Additionally, 80% of those polled said protesters who committed violence against pregnancy centers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, according to the poll.
Both leading up to the Roe decision and following it, crisis pregnancy centers have been targeted with violence.
Days before the Roe decision, pro-abortion activists <a href="https://www.liveaction.org/news/oregon-pregnancy-center-firebombed-activists/">firebombed</a> a crisis pregnancy center in Oregon.
&#8220;If abortions aren&#8217;t safe then you aren&#8217;t either,&#8221; read a message scrawled on the side of the offices of a pro-life organization in Wisconsin, which were firebombed on Mother’s Day.
A similar message was <a href="https://www.dailysignal.com/2022/08/18/pro-abortion-vandals-strike-pregnancy-center-in-massachusetts/">spray-painted</a> on the sidewalk outside a Massachusetts crisis pregnancy center.
Perpetrators have also <a href="https://first-image.org/2022/05/05/vandalism-at-our-southeast-center/">smashed</a> windows and <a href="https://www.dailysignal.com/2022/08/18/pro-abortion-vandals-strike-pregnancy-center-in-massachusetts/">vandalized</a> centers with red paint.
Currently, pregnancy centers and community-based health clinics <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/realchoices/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://lozierinstitute.org/realchoices/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1661350248607000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2Ye8X6URstd7kRz_3eNDIc">outnumber</a> Planned Parenthood clinics by 14 to 1 across the country.

Marc Rosen, the President of Entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, which owns the Marilyn Monroe Estate, weighed in on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/actress-ana-de-armas-says-theres-no-need-for-a-female-bond-no-need-to-steal-someone-elses-character">34-year-old</a> actress landing the role of Monroe, as well as the reaction on social media to the star&#8217;s accent in the trailer for the upcoming Netflix movie, <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/news/marilyn-monroe-estate-defends-ana-de-armas-blonde-casting-accent-1235330934/">Variety</a> reported in a piece published Monday.
&#8220;Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history,&#8221; Rosen shared.

The &#8220;No Time To Die&#8221; star previously spoke about the amount of work she put in to get Monroe&#8217;s voice right.

In the trailer that recently dropped for the upcoming NC-17 biopic, the actress looked very similar to the late starlet as de Armas’ character argues she&#8217;s still Norma Jeane and that Marilyn Monroe &#8220;doesn&#8217;t exist,&#8221; as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/marilyn-doesnt-exist-actress-ana-de-armas-looks-unrecognizable-as-she-channels-monroe-in-chaotic-trailer-for-blonde">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported. The message &#8220;watched by all&#8221; and &#8220;seen by none&#8221; comes across the screen.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve played Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn Monroe,&#8221; de Armas explained. &#8220;I can&#8217;t face doing another scene with Marilyn Monroe.&#8221;
