A Chicago museum exhibit dedicated to Planned Parenthood featured rosaries, because Christianity is in the business of &#8220;controlling the bodies&#8221; of women, the exhibit&#8217;s plaque said.
The International Museum of Surgical Science&#8217;s &#8220;Unplanned Parenthood&#8221; exhibit featured letters women wrote to Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger in the 1920s asking for information about birth control.
Some of the letters were hung from crosses using rosary beads.

&#8220;The rosary beads serve as a reminder of the enduring influence of christianity [sic] in the United States, symbolizing the ways religious institutions have played in shaping societal norms and controlling the bodies of birthing people,&#8221; <a href="https://imss.org/contemporaryart/michelle-hartney-unplanned-parenthood/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">read</a> the plaque for the exhibit.
&#8220;Birthing people&#8221; is a gender neutral term often used in place of &#8220;women&#8221; by those who espouse gender ideology.
The letters were embroidered onto vintage wedding dress fabric by volunteers in sewing circles around the country, the plaque said. The wedding dress material symbolizes the &#8220;societal expectations placed on women in the early 1900s.&#8221;
The fabric letters were then hung from porcelain backings, &#8220;evoking the fragility of the rights of people with uteruses,&#8221; while the backings have imagery from wedding cakes, lingerie, and jewelry, &#8220;serving as a commentary on the societal pressure placed on women to embrace marriage, often masking the limitations it imposed, particularly during the times when birth control and autonomy were denied.&#8221;
Meat hooks symbolized &#8220;the patriarchy.&#8221;
&#8220;Vintage meat hooks were used as symbols of the brutality of the patriarchy and the way men have treated the bodies of people with uteruses like animals,&#8221; the plaque said.
Chicago is one of the most Catholic cities in the country, with about a <a href="https://www.voanews.com/a/most-catholic-cities-in-us/2966577.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">third</a> of its residents identifying as Catholic.
One Catholic Chicago resident told The Daily Wire it was &#8220;heart-wrenchingly offensive&#8221; to think of his tax dollars going towards the display.
The museum has <a href="https://imss.org/2023/09/the-international-museum-of-surgical-science-to-offer-artist-stipends-in-2024-season-for-chicago-illinois-based-artists/?srsltid=AfmBOoqEraaOLaphC478hd7hBDoEB3NiBEP_DB-FsX8Uukmbc3T3KYW7&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received</a> government grants, including pandemic relief money.
&#8220;Worse, the use of the Catholic rosary and Crucifixes in the exhibit is a mockery of the Lord&#8217;s Mother and all of the prayers from all those who hold life sacred from conception,&#8221; he said, &#8220;something [about] 1.3 billion Catholics universally hold to, and an issue the Church is unwavering on.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s despicable what the City is supporting. Wasting our tax dollars to mock Catholics, and the desecrate to rosary,&#8221; the Catholic Chicagoan said, adding that he encourages the city&#8217;s two million Catholics to &#8220;vote accordingly.&#8221;
The museum said in a statement to The Daily Wire that the &#8220;views, statements, and ideas expressed in this exhibition are solely those of the artist&#8221; and the museum &#8220;does not endorse or promote any political or social beliefs presented in this exhibit.&#8221;

Ever since the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision in Dobbs, America&#8217;s longstanding <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/abortion">abortion</a> debate has taken on a new tone.
The battle has moved to the states and in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington, voters are no longer asking whether there&#8217;s a right to abortion in the Constitution — the court has made it quite clear that there isn&#8217;t — but rather if their state should allow women to abort their children. 
The Left, of course, is fighting harder than ever. Planned Parenthood has even launched an <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/08/22/1195142490/planned-parenthood-abortion-wisconsin-campaign-2024-gop-republican-trump-pence" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ad campaign</a> aimed at fighting abortion limits on the ballot in the 2024 elections. Another tactic the Left has employed is to pair racial justice with abortion access, suggesting in <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/05/14/1098306203/abortion-is-also-about-racial-justice-experts-and-advocates-say" target="_blank" rel="noopener">popular articles</a> and even <a href="https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2209737" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scientific studies</a> that those who care about the wellbeing of racial minorities should vote for pro-abortion measures.
Mildred Jefferson, the first African American woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School, would beg to differ. As she put in a 1977 debate with Nicki Nichols Gamble, the executive director of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts: 
<blockquote>“The abortionists have accomplished what perhaps 200 years of lynchings did not do; destroying an entire generation and crippling another.” </blockquote>
The truth that Dr. Jefferson understood and that younger generations need to know is that the abortion movement was founded as a eugenics project. Eugenics is the “science” behind the idea that there is a hierarchical ordering of the races, and it goes hand-in-hand with some of the most unethical medical practices that are part of American history.
Take the case of J. Marion Sims. He has been called the father of modern gynecology. In recent years, however, he has been rightly called out because <a href="https://www.history.com/news/the-father-of-modern-gynecology-performed-shocking-experiments-on-slaves" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his research</a> was conducted on enslaved black women without anesthesia. It took decades, but the truth finally came out.
Today, in the midst of our abortion debates, Gen Z also needs to know the truth about Planned Parenthood. 
Despite being presented as a compassionate progressive leader, Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was also a vicious racist. Although pro-abortion advocates have defended her for years as a product of her time (the same defense used with Sims), the truth is that Sanger was a radical, even for 1930s America. Indeed, her purpose in founding Planned Parenthood and her mission in life was to destroy the black race. As she wrote in a <a href="https://libex.smith.edu/omeka/files/original/d6358bc3053c93183295bf2df1c0c931.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1939 letter to Clarence Gamble</a>: 
<blockquote>“We don’t want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the [African American] minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”</blockquote>
Clarence Gamble spent his life and family fortune promoting eugenics. He passed his beliefs on to his son Richard Gamble, as well as his son’s wife, the aforementioned Nicki Nichols Gamble who debated Dr. Jefferson in 1977 and was even so bold as to suggest on air that abortion helps low-income women.
Then, and for the rest of her life, Dr. Jefferson stood up to the racist abortionists targeting her community and fought tenaciously for the lives of black babies. She went on to help form and lead Massachusetts Citizens for Life and found the Right to Life Crusade, Inc. She is a hero, deserves her place in history, and most importantly, needs to be remembered today.
Public pressure for change can make a difference. In 2018, for instance, the New York City Public Design Commission voted unanimously to remove Sims’ statue from its prominent location in Central Park. Likewise, in 2020 Planned Parenthood of Greater New York removed Margaret Sanger’s name from its building.
And yet, the business of Sanger’s Planned Parenthood — “exterminate[ing] the Negro population”— continues. In 2016, more black babies were <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/lets-talk-about-the-black-abortion-rate-1531263697" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed by abortion</a> than were born in New York City. This is no accident, of course. 
Ramona Treviño, a former manager of a Planned Parenthood clinic, <a href="https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/249604/reversing-roe-hispanic-pro-life-leader-ramona-trevino" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in 2021 that her former employer targets Hispanics and African Americans. Indeed, at a director’s meeting, she even discovered Planned Parenthood has abortion quotas.
So, simply removing Sanger’s name from the building is insufficient. Dr. Jefferson wouldn’t have been satisfied by the Left’s attempts to erase history. And we shouldn’t be either.

<blockquote>“I am at once a physician, a citizen and a woman, and I am not willing to stand aside and allow this concept of expendable human lives to turn this great land of ours into just another exclusive reservation where only the perfect, the privileged and the planned have the right to live.”</blockquote>
It is time for America to put an end to Sanger’s institution of eugenics. It won’t be easy — Planned Parenthood is a well-funded force. But it wasn’t easy for Mildred Jefferson either.
As legislation on abortion continues to be on the ballot in statehouses across the counties, those who fight for life would do well to remember her example. Although the Left may label standing up for life as racist, fascist, right-wing extremism, the truth is that it’s simply the right thing to do.

I call my youngest sibling with special needs “little brother,” but if Michael Hugo, the defamed Democratic chairman of the Framingham City Council in Massachusetts were in my shoes, he’d probably just call him a “<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/massachusetts-democrat-told-step-down-abortion-comments-leave-parents-irate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">budget constraint</a>” — at least that’s what his recent comments imply.
At an earlier Framingham City Council meeting, Hugo <a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnypost.com%2F2023%2F02%2F24%2Fmassachusettes-dem-michael-hugo-denounced-for-abortion-comments%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7Ckhamrick%40studentsforlife.org%7C9a84c1e688bf47ce23e608db1b51a36f%7Cb3f92ab929b141449c57d11e0e7a368a%7C0%7C0%7C638133809724856794%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=1cUR4MdDKN8iuz8CarAWRwVBVabzFUGZ%2FUFBfS1dkHI%3D&amp;reserved=0">voiced complaints</a> about the cost burden of special education for children with disabilities who were not aborted. His comments were met with backlash from both sides of the political aisle and families with special needs children. Hugo issued a <a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metrowestdailynews.com%2Fstory%2Fnews%2Flocal%2F2023%2F02%2F20%2Fframingham-ma-hugo-apologizes-special-ed-cost-comments%2F69916662007%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7Ckhamrick%40studentsforlife.org%7C9a84c1e688bf47ce23e608db1b51a36f%7Cb3f92ab929b141449c57d11e0e7a368a%7C0%7C0%7C638133809724856794%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=YGrH%2FWEJhHwfkTkMiolgdffPLbSMnhiXy7959wbKMK4%3D&amp;reserved=0">public apology</a> 10 days after the event, attempting to backpedal his ableist stance by apologizing and calling his comments “offensive and hurtful.” 
It wasn’t enough, however, and Hugo was forced to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/massachusetts-democrat-resigns-following-backlash-comments-abortion-special-needs-children">step down</a> from his position. 
I have serious ideological disagreements with this discriminatory, pro-abortion agenda — but to me, this goes beyond that. It’s personal.
When Hugo began his comments by criticizing the life-saving work of pregnancy resource centers (PRCs), he doubted the integrity of PRCS sonographers by claiming they would misdiagnose defects by “proclaiming that it is a beautiful child living inside the mother.”
My own little brother, Nicholas, was a beautiful child living inside my mother when she received news of a fetal abnormality at a 37-week ultrasound. The doctors noticed that my brother had a mass on his head, thinking it was a blood clot. It turned out to be a rare brain tumor. 
For abortion supporters such as Michael Hugo, this would be the perfect time to pressure a mother into abortion. Thankfully, my mom was 37 weeks pregnant in a conservative state, and she wholly believed in the dignity of her child’s life. However, the violence of abortion is often what follows a fetal diagnosis. As an example, an estimated <a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fobgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com%2Fdoi%2Ffull%2F10.1002%2Fpd.2910&amp;data=05%7C01%7Ckhamrick%40studentsforlife.org%7C9a84c1e688bf47ce23e608db1b51a36f%7Cb3f92ab929b141449c57d11e0e7a368a%7C0%7C0%7C638133809725013043%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=xfHBC5SFJn9JDj4HzbE8f%2Bk0aVnTuK5PLU72u6NeuD8%3D&amp;reserved=0">60 – 90%</a> of children diagnosed with Down Syndrome in the womb are aborted in the United States in comparison to <a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.guttmacher.org%2Ffact-sheet%2Finduced-abortion-united-states&amp;data=05%7C01%7Ckhamrick%40studentsforlife.org%7C9a84c1e688bf47ce23e608db1b51a36f%7Cb3f92ab929b141449c57d11e0e7a368a%7C0%7C0%7C638133809725013043%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=hX6ThFhikx%2BhGA4JFZAeg2y7oLbCjvJU9LvPkS3fIC0%3D&amp;reserved=0">18% of all pregnancies</a> ending in abortion.
I recently held a sign at the 2023 March for Life in Washington, D.C., that said, “A Diagnosis Should Not be a Death Sentence” in response to the alarmingly high rate of abortions due to fetal diagnosis. And while it doesn&#8217;t change the morality of the issue, many of these diagnoses are often wrong, as <a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2022%2F01%2F01%2Fupshot%2Fpregnancy-birth-genetic-testing.html&amp;data=05%7C01%7Ckhamrick%40studentsforlife.org%7C9a84c1e688bf47ce23e608db1b51a36f%7Cb3f92ab929b141449c57d11e0e7a368a%7C0%7C0%7C638133809725013043%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=po8gihKHALRXdVr0tgHD18j7OVCZUM5%2F%2BldVs%2F0cCqI%3D&amp;reserved=0">The New York Times has reported</a> that 85% of positive results on common prenatal tests are incorrect.

Ableism clearly starts in the womb for abortion supporters — but it doesn’t end there.
Moments after Nicholas’ birth, a neonatologist at the hospital told my mom that her newborn’s life would “not be worth much.” He claimed Nicholas would “be a vegetable,” and it would be unlikely that Nicholas would walk, talk, or keep up with his peers.
Nicholas is now a healthy 12-year-old boy who runs, talks up a storm, swims competitively, and loves his trampoline — although to be clear, his life would still be equally valuable even if the neonatologist had been correct.
Yes, he lives his life daily with special needs. He receives specialized medical treatment, as well as educational and developmental support from a reading specialist, an occupational therapist, and other special services. His life is different in many ways from mine, but that doesn’t mean his life isn’t worth living.

However, Hugo views these “special services” designed to help my brother as too costly. As he said, “Our school budget will have to absorb the cost of a child in special education, supplying lots and lots of special services to children, who were born with the defect.”
His statement reduces my brother to a financial strain because of a “defect.” It’s really a heartless stance and denies the resilience of children with special needs like Nicholas. They truly defy the odds by surviving diagnoses, countless surgeries, and treatments.
I am disgusted by Hugo’s stance, but I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s perfectly in alignment with the beliefs of Margaret Sanger, founder of the leading abortion vendor in America, Planned Parenthood.
A little more than a century ago, <a href="https://www.jcrtl.org/planned-parenthoods-margaret-sanger.html">Sanger wrote sentiments</a> similar to Hugo, saying: “No more children should be born when the parents, though healthy themselves, find that their children are physically or mentally defective.”
Eugenics was on the rise in Sanger&#8217;s day, and it is here today — Planned Parenthoods are tucked into suburbs across America doing the work she championed: ending the life of minority groups, those with intellectual disabilities, and even those with physical abnormalities.
Democrats like Hugo need to get their facts straight. They cannot be the party of diversity while supporting the eradication of minority groups through eugenics. They cannot be the party of equality while discriminating against special needs students because of expenses. They cannot be the party of inclusion when they directly and intentionally exclude an entire group of human beings — the pre-born — from the fundamental and constitutional right to life.
Thankfully, Hugo finally did step down after publicly supporting pre-born children losing their lives. Nevertheless, my prayer is that any American who doesn’t know where they stand on abortion will lose any last shred of respect they may have for the “pro-choice” argument. At the end of the day, it’s just pro-discrimination.

A Planned Parenthood internal audit, obtained by Buzzfeed News, reveals the abortion conglomerate is plagued by accusations of internal racism, race-based discrimination, and acts of &#8220;anti-blackness.&#8221;
&#8220;Black employees at Planned Parenthood’s national wing feel that they have been held to a different standard than the organization’s white employees and that they are often expected to work more and given less leeway,&#8221; the outlet reported Saturday after obtaining a copy of what was supposed to be an internal-only memo on the subject of racism in Planned Parenthood&#8217;s ranks.
The study, commissioned by Planned Parenthood and involving a dozen social justice-oriented organizations, interviewed around 80 current and former black Planned Parenthood employees and concluded that the &#8220;the organization’s Black employees feel that Planned Parenthood’s treatment of them internally does not line up with its social justice–driven mission.&#8221;
The interviews yielded stories of how black employees were &#8220;over-scrutinized,&#8221; forced to work &#8220;extraordinary hours,&#8221; and subjected to &#8220;childification,&#8221; which the study defines as the “persistent treatment of Black people as children or adolescents who are unable to accomplish work independently, and viewed uniformly, such that they cannot be differentiated from one another.”
Beyond simple discrimination, the employees also reported that Planned Parenthood has no apparatus for reporting or handling claims of discrimination and that the organization&#8217;s human resources department could not dole out any &#8220;meaningful consequence or accountability for racial harm.&#8221;
Buzzfeed reports that the group&#8217;s findings dove-tailed with Buzzfeed&#8217;s own investigative reporting, which found, &#8220;detailed allegations of racism and discrimination at Planned Parenthood’s state affiliate chapters, as well as at NARAL Pro-Choice America, another major reproductive rights group. Twenty-six sources at both organizations told BuzzFeed News at the time that they regularly faced racism at work and were belittled by their bosses, while their non-Black colleagues were not, and felt they often had nowhere to turn for help with these issues.&#8221;
Indeed, at least one Planned Parenthood chapter, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, has been embroiled in a public battle over internal racism. Following massive anti-racism protests in the wake of George Floyd&#8217;s death while in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department, black employees of PPGNY <a href="https://saveppgny.wordpress.com/">issued an open letter to the group&#8217;s hierarchy</a>, complaining of open discrimination, and the organization&#8217;s history of abject racism, which begins with Planned Parenthood&#8217;s founder, Margaret Sanger.

PPGNY eventually committed to taking Sanger&#8217;s name off the group&#8217;s New York headquarters, marking, after decades of criticism, recognition of the abortion conglomerate&#8217;s eugenicist roots, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/planned-parenthood-ny-will-remove-margaret-sangers-name-from-clinic-over-harmful-connections-to-racism-eugenics">as the Daily Wire noted</a> over the summer. The group, though, still openly embraces Sanger in other ways, ignoring the early-20th century eugenicist&#8217;s feelings on eliminating inferior races and groups, calling them merely &#8220;inartfully written.&#8221;
In response to the internal report, Planned Parenthood says it is undergoing some soul-searching and is committed to righting the social justice wrongs within its organization.

Continuing his crusade against Planned Parenthood, Kanye West said that the abortion giant has been killing black people for the past 50 years &#8220;strategically and on purpose.&#8221;
Speaking with Nick Cannon on his podcast &#8220;Cannon&#8217;s Class,&#8221; West laid out some searing facts about abortion in America, noting that Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger was a white supremacist.
“In 50 years, there’s been 22 million — over 22,500,000 — black people aborted strategically and on purpose. Planned Parenthood was set up and placed in minority communities to kill black people,&#8221; he said.
Playing devil&#8217;s advocate, Cannon, who has himself <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/nick-cannon-planned-parenthood_n_583c41f5e4b000af95eed819">been critical</a> of Planned Parenthood in the past, said that PP supporters would argue that the organization has evolved from the racist roots of its founder to become a force for good in the United States. West slapped that notion down by citing the fact that one of Sanger&#8217;s specific goals was to reduce the American black population.
As West relayed the statistics about black abortion, the facts were undeniable that abortion kills more black people in the United States than any other cause.
“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, abortion kills more black people than HIV, homicide, diabetes, accidents, cancer, and heart disease — watch this one — combined,” West asserted. “Three thousand shootings in Chicago a year, 700 murders, you’ve got to put that with heart disease, you’ve got to put that with HIV, you’ve got to put that with diabetes, you’ve got to put that with just accidents, and put that with cancer, and it doesn’t add up to specifically abortions. If you think about that number, 1,000 black babies are aborted each day.”
&#8220;It&#8217;s funny because I&#8217;ve sent this to people, and there are some people that say, &#8216;wow, that touches me.&#8217; Some people say, &#8216;I feel that,'&#8221; he said. &#8220;And an overwhelming amount of people that I send it to and their response was, &#8216;Thank you for sending that.'&#8221;
&#8220;With no emotion,&#8221; Cannon added.
&#8220;Thank you for sending? Why would you thank anyone for sending that?&#8221; West wondered aloud.

West sparked ire from Planned Parenthood supporters this past July when he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kanye-west-praises-trump-hammers-planned-parenthood-likens-covid-vaccine-to-mark-of-the-beast">told Forbes </a>that the abortion giant is a tool of white supremacists to eliminate black babies.
“Planned Parenthoods have been placed inside cities by white supremacists to do the Devil’s work,” he said.
“I am pro-life because I’m following the word of the Bible,” he later added.
Planned Parenthood then issued a forceful response to West, accusing him of promoting a “black genocide” conspiracy theory that infantilizes blacks.
“Black women are free to make our own decisions about our bodies and pregnancies, and want and deserve to have the best medical care available,” said Nia Martin-Robinson, the organization’s Director of Black Leadership and Engagement. “Any insinuation that abortion is Black genocide is offensive and infantilizing.”

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York announced Tuesday that they plan on removing founder Margaret Sanger&#8217;s name from a key clinic after acknowledging Sanger&#8217;s legacy of supporting eugenics and racism and as part of an effort to reckon with the organization&#8217;s history.
Pro-life groups have long pointed out that Sanger&#8217;s purpose in founding Planned Parenthood was to encourage communities of color and other &#8220;<a href="https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland/carroll/opinion/cc-op-sprinkle-010420-20200104-opc3c76o4na47mtdtun4nvqw3y-story.html">unfit&#8221; and &#8220;feeble-minded&#8221; groups</a> to practice strict birth control &#8212; at least according to Sanger&#8217;s own writings, which are widely available.
&#8220;Today eugenics is suggested by the most diverse minds as the most adequate and thorough avenue in the solution of racial, political, and social problems,&#8221; <a href="https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland/carroll/opinion/cc-op-sprinkle-010420-20200104-opc3c76o4na47mtdtun4nvqw3y-story.html">Sanger wrote in 1921, </a>for example.
Previously, though, the abortion provider has brushed off concerns about Sanger&#8217;s beliefs as &#8220;complicated,&#8221; and described her own letters, which refer to using abortion “to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective,&#8221; as &#8220;<a href="https://time.com/4081760/margaret-sanger-history-eugenics/">inartfully written</a>.&#8221; Supporters insist that Sanger&#8217;s ultimate goal was to empower women to control their own fertility &#8212; a goal which, for them, all but erases her more unsavory beliefs.
But last month, following the death of George Floyd while in the custody of the Minneapolis police department, employees of Planned Parenthood Greater New York (PPGNY) published an open letter accusing the corporation&#8217;s hierarchy of gross mismanagement, and pointing out Sanger&#8217;s flaws as a key element of the group&#8217;s ongoing issues with &#8220;white supremacy.&#8221;
&#8220;Planned Parenthood was founded by a racist, white woman,&#8221; <a href="https://saveppgny.wordpress.com/">the letter noted</a>. &#8220;That is a part of history that cannot be changed. While efforts have been made to undo some of the harm from institutional racism, many of these issues have worsened.&#8221;
Tuesday, in response, PPGNY announced that they would take the extreme step of removing Sanger&#8217;s name from their clinic, now previously known as the &#8220;Margaret Sanger Center.&#8221;
“The removal of Margaret Sanger’s name from our building is both a necessary and overdue step to reckon with our legacy and acknowledge Planned Parenthood’s contributions to historical reproductive harm within communities of color,” PPGNY&#8217;s affiliate board chairwoman announced in a statement, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/21/nyregion/planned-parenthood-margaret-sanger-eugenics.html">per The New York Times</a>.
&#8220;The group is also talking to city leaders about replacing Ms. Sanger’s name on a street sign that has hung near its offices on Bleecker Street for more than two decades,&#8221; the outlet also noted.
Of course, the decision to scrub Sanger&#8217;s name applies only to a single Planned Parenthood affiliate, albeit one of the nation&#8217;s largest. National Planned Parenthood still lauds Sanger&#8217;s work. Until 2015, the organization gave out an annual award bearing Sanger&#8217;s name, and their national website features <a href="https://www.plannedparenthood.org/files/9214/7612/8734/Sanger_Fact_Sheet_Oct_2016.pdf">a glowing &#8220;fact sheet</a>&#8221; about its founder, which recasts Sanger&#8217;s decision to initially target communities of color for reproductive services as a civil rights victory.
The Smithsonian&#8217;s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., also features a bronze bust of Sanger.

After announcing his interest in a 2020 presidential run, rapper and fashion mogul Kanye West came out swinging against abortion, specifically singling out Planned Parenthood, which he suggested was targeting black women and killing black babies.
“Planned Parenthoods have been placed inside cities by white supremacists to do the Devil’s work,&#8221; <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kanye-west-praises-trump-hammers-planned-parenthood-likens-covid-vaccine-to-mark-of-the-beast">he said</a>.
In response, Planned Parenthood — whose founder promoted <a href="https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland/carroll/opinion/cc-op-sprinkle-010420-20200104-opc3c76o4na47mtdtun4nvqw3y-story.html">racist ideas</a> and openly <a href="https://www.nyu.edu/projects/sanger/webedition/app/documents/show.php?sangerDoc=238946.xml">described</a> her movement as &#8220;practically identical in ideal, with the final aims of Eugenics&#8221; — tapped Nia Martin-Robinson, the organization&#8217;s Director of Black Leadership and Engagement, to rebuke the rapper&#8217;s forceful statement.
&#8220;Black women are free to make our own decisions about our bodies and pregnancies, and want and deserve to have the best medical care available,&#8221; Martin-Robinson said. &#8220;Any insinuation that abortion is Black genocide is offensive and infantilizing.&#8221;
Martin-Robinson went on to say that the greatest threat to the black community is lack of access to quality health care.
&#8220;The real threat to Black communities&#8217; safety, health, and lives stems from lack of access to quality, affordable health care, police violence, and the criminalization of reproductive health care by anti-abortion opposition,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;At Planned Parenthood, we trust and we stand with Black women who have, and continue to lead the charge when it comes to health, rights, and bodily autonomy of those in their communities.&#8221;
Over at <a href="https://www.bustle.com/entertainment/kanye-wests-anti-planned-parenthood-conspiracy-theory">Bustle</a>, Jake Viswanath even went as far as to argue that pro-lifers have been tied to white supremacy, even though leaders of the racist Alt-Right movement <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/08/alt-right-abortion-richard-spencer-upholds-margaret-sanger-eugenicist-legacy/">have expressed support for abortion</a>, arguing that it rids the country of undesirables.
&#8220;There has been more ties between white supremacy and pro-life activism in recent years, like when anti-abortion group New Wave Feminists was forced to oust their former leader Kristen Walker Hatten in 2018 after she shared white supremacist messages on Twitter and admitted that she was &#8216;racist by today&#8217;s standards.&#8217; Basically, if Planned Parenthood clinics were planted by anyone, it definitely wasn&#8217;t by white supremacists,&#8221; argued Viswanath.
In a 2017 piece for <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/08/alt-right-abortion-richard-spencer-upholds-margaret-sanger-eugenicist-legacy/">National Review</a> titled &#8220;The Alt-Right Carries On Margaret Sanger&#8217;s Legacy Of Eugenics,&#8221; Elliott Kaufman presents a far different take on the relationship between white supremacists and abortion:
<blockquote>Richard Spencer, the keynote speaker in Charlottesville and the central figure of the alt-right movement, finds abortion useful. He has explained that abortion will help to bring about his vision of an elite, white America: “The people who are having abortions are generally very often Black or Hispanic or from very poor circumstances.” The people whom Spencer wants to reproduce, he says, “are using abortion when you have a situation like Down Syndrome.” It is only “the unintelligent and blacks and Hispanics,” he claims, “who use abortion as birth control.”
He has openly mocked conservatives who worry about a “black genocide” or “how [abortion] is destroying black communities.” He knows that an estimated 75 percent of women who have abortions are poor. He knows that black women, receiving an outsize 36 percent of all American abortions, are almost five times as likely to terminate their pregnancies as white women. Nothing could make him happier.</blockquote>
Aylmer Fisher wrote in Spencer&#8217;s Radix Journal: “It is important we not fall prey to the pro-life temptation. The only ones who can’t [avoid an unwanted pregnancy] are the least intelligent and responsible members of society: women who are disproportionately Black, Hispanic, and poor.”

Planned Parenthood, Feminists Respond To Kanye West

Levar Stoney, the black Democratic mayor of Richmond, Virginia, made the executive decision to remove a statue of Gen. Thomas &#8220;Stonewall&#8221; Jackson on Monument Avenue to &#8220;expedite the healing process for the city.&#8221; This demonstrated how cities with liberal majorities can take down statues in an orderly fashion without vandalizing them or pulling them down. Or it demonstrates how Democratic mayors respond to pressure from the self-appointed statue-removal squad.
The left is interested in taking down all kinds of statues, which raises an obvious question: What about the statues the left has put up? No one&#8217;s ripping those down.
In 2017, Peter Dreier at BillMoyers.com wrote a piece headlined &#8220;Where Are All the Monuments to the Progressive Americans?&#8221; He complained most of our country&#8217;s statues celebrate military, political and business heroes. &#8220;Shouldn&#8217;t we also honor the organizers, activists, artists, writers, athletes, judges, and occasional elected officials who fought to make the United States a more humane and inclusive country?&#8221; he asked.
Then he listed a few examples of the left&#8217;s heroes who have statues.
Exhibit A: &#8220;This statue of the pioneering and fearless birth control advocate Margaret Sanger, with a gag over her mouth, stands in Old South Meeting House in Boston. There are no schools named for the controversial socialist and feminist.&#8221;
Honk if you find it bizarre to describe Sanger, a racist and eugenicist, as your avatar of &#8220;humane and inclusive&#8221; policies. Her creation Planned Parenthood is a leading destroyer of black lives before they start. But when black men and women cooperate in abortions, you can&#8217;t possibly be allowed to tell them those extinguished lives matter.
They were &#8230; inconvenient.
Pro-lifers will show you Sanger&#8217;s autobiography in which she discussed speaking before the women&#8217;s branch of the Ku Klux Klan: &#8220;I accepted an invitation to talk to the women&#8217;s branch of the Ku Klux Klan in Silver Lake, New Jersey. &#8230; In the end, through simple illustrations I believed I had accomplished my purpose. A dozen invitations to speak to similar groups were proffered.&#8221;
It&#8217;s not surprising that no one has vandalized the Sanger statue. No one has ripped it down and set it on fire. It stands undisturbed. It&#8217;s not on public property. The Old South Meeting House was a Puritan church. Conservatives can despair at the &#8220;evolution&#8221; of this once-Christian space, but not one has vandalized it.
Meanwhile, NPR reported the Boston Art Commission voted unanimously on June 30 to remove Boston&#8217;s copy of the Emancipation Memorial depicting a formerly enslaved man at the feet of Abraham Lincoln. That statue has stood in Boston&#8217;s Park Square since 1879. But, activists complained, it was a &#8220;white-created statue.&#8221;
&#8220;Boston artist Tory Bullock said the sculpture is a whitewashed portrayal that denigrates an entire group of people,&#8221; NPR wrote. &#8220;This is a frozen picture. This man is kneeling, he will never stand up,&#8221; Bullock said. &#8220;This image is problematic because it feeds into a narrative that black people need to be led and freed. &#8230; Why is our trauma so glorified?&#8221;
Sanger, the racist and eugenicist, remains, while Lincoln was removed. He&#8217;s apparently the enemy of the African American people. An image of emancipation is traumatic. The abortion of black babies is apparently therapeutic.
Leftists like Tory Bullock do not understand how people who gladly acknowledge that &#8220;black lives matter&#8221; would consider the left&#8217;s moral posturing to be based more on ideology than reality. Those on the left speak angrily and endlessly of violated &#8220;black bodies,&#8221; but — to borrow a phrase from George Orwell — they imply some black bodies are more equal than others.
