None of the Friday evening or Saturday morning news shows on ABC, NBC, or CBS covered the 51st annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., which saw <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tens-of-thousands-expected-to-join-march-for-life-in-snowy-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tens of thousands</a> of pro-life protesters flood the nation’s capital. 
March for Life organizers estimated that between 50,000 and 100,000 people attended the rally and ensuing march on Friday, but the massive pro-life turnout didn’t make it into the evening or morning coverage of some of the legacy media’s most-watched news programs, media watchdog NewsBusters <a href="https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/alex-christy/2024/01/20/nbc-skips-march-life-hype-pro-abort-high-schoolers-abc-and-cbs">reported</a>. While ignoring the pro-life March for Life, “NBC Nightly News” with Lester Holt reported on how high school girls are making abortion access a priority in their decision on where to go to college.
“School ranking, academics, tuition costs, all factors in the big decision of picking a college but for South Carolina high school senior Grace, add the state&#8217;s abortion laws,” NBC News reporter Savannah Sellers began the segment. 
The high school senior featured in the segment said she was “not comfortable being in a state that doesn&#8217;t value who I am or value my rights as a person.”
Sellers said Grace was “joining a growing trend” of young women who consider a state’s abortion laws when deciding on a college.

After another week of headlines, it can be hard to parse through and find the most important political stories of the week. Many stories slip through the cracks as the media pulls Americans’ attention elsewhere. The following list of the week’s top stories is far from expansive, but just in case you missed them, here are some of the biggest stories The Daily Wire covered from Sunday, January 14, to Friday, January 19, 2024.
<h4>Trump Wins Iowa Caucuses</h4>
Former President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-projected-to-win-iowa-caucuses" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cruised to a win</a> in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night, taking 98 of the state’s 99 counties and winning over 50% of the vote. Of the state’s 40 delegates that were up for grabs in the caucuses, Trump <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/us/elections/republican-primary-delegates-tracker-calendar.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received</a> 20 of them. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who took 21% of the vote, received nine delegates, and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley who placed third with 19% of the vote walks away from Iowa with eight delegates. Candidates must reach 1,215 delegates to win the Republican nomination.

Voters braved below-zero temperatures on Monday night, making it the coldest Iowa Caucuses since its beginning in 1972. Around <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/iowa-caucus-turnout-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">110,000 voters</a> went out to caucus, far lower than the record 187,000 voters that came out to vote in the 2016 caucuses. The 110,000 Iowa voters, which also included some Democrats, who voted in the Republican caucuses make up under 15% of the state’s registered Republican voters.
While Trump was the clear winner in Iowa and cemented his position as the frontrunner in the GOP primary, the night didn’t pass without some controversy. The race was called for Trump with an unusually low percentage of the vote counted, as multiple outlets — including Fox News, CNN, NBC News, and the Associated Press — made their decision on the race with just 1% of the vote counted. The quick decision was slammed by many people, including Iowa voters, reporters, and political commentators.

Trump congratulated his GOP opponents in a speech following his win in Iowa, saying they all did “very well.”
“I want to congratulate Ron and Nikki for a good time together. … I think they both actually did very well. I really do,” Trump said.
“I also want to congratulate Vivek because he did a hell of a job,” Trump added. “He came from zero … and he got probably 8%.”
<h4>U.S. Continues Strikes On Houthi Targets, Houthis Redesignated As Terrorists </h4>
U.S. forces <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-launches-new-round-of-airstrikes-against-houthis-in-yemen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> another round of strikes against the Houthis earlier this week as the Iranian-backed group continues to attack merchant vessels, and even targets U.S. forces, in the Red Sea.
The U.S. military targeted 14 Houthi missiles that were being prepared to be fired from Yemen, threatening merchant and U.S. Navy ships in the region. The Houthis have ramped up attacks in the Red Sea following Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack on Israel and the group’s leaders have said its attacks on ships in the region will end as soon as “Israeli aggression” stops in Gaza, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/jan/18/red-sea-crisis-us-military-missile-strikes-houthis-yemen-gulf-of-aden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Guardian.

President Joe Biden removed the Houthis from the U.S. list of designated terrorist groups shortly after taking office, but his administration <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/us-redesignates-houthis-terrorist-group-means/story?id=106451725" target="_blank" rel="noopener">redesignated</a> the Houthis as a terrorist group this week.
&#8220;The Houthis must be held accountable for their actions, but it should not be at the expense of Yemeni civilians,&#8221; Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement. &#8220;As the Department of State moves forward with this designation, we are taking significant steps to mitigate any adverse impacts this designation may have on the people of Yemen.&#8221;
<h4>DOJ Confirms Hunter Biden’s Laptop</h4>
In a court filing on Tuesday, the Department of Justice <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/doj-confirms-hunter-biden-laptop-was-real-this-whole-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">confirmed</a> what most Americans already knew. The infamous Hunter Biden laptop is, in fact, real and did belong to the president’s son. New York Post reporter wrote in a post on X that in addition to the Bidens and the Justice Department being fully aware that the laptop was Hunter’s, they had even been able to match the contents discovered on the laptop to content stored on the cloud under his account.

“In a new court filing today, the DOJ confirms Hunter Biden’s laptop is real, that he left it at a computer store, and that the contents matched what they obtained from a search warrant of his iCloud. Don’t hold your breath for a retraction from Joe Biden (‘It’s a Russian plant’), the #Dirty51 or myriad dishonest media operatives. They blamed Russia when the Bidens knew it was Hunter – and so did the FBI. Hunter also blamed Russia when he was caught using adultery site Ashley Madison,” Devine posted.
The New York Post’s initial story on Biden’s laptop in October 2020 was <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/19/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276" target="_blank" rel="noopener">labeled</a> as Russian disinformation by more than 50 former intelligence officials who signed onto a letter that attempted to discredit the Post’s report.  
<h4>Congress Passes Short-Term Spending Bill To Conservative Members’ Chagrin</h4>
The House and Senate on Thursday <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-another-short-term-spending-bill-rejecting-conservative-bid-for-border-attachment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> a short-term spending bill to get the federal government through early March while avoiding a shutdown. The stop-gap bill was opposed by many conservatives in the House who wanted Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to hold out on any deal with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) until Democrats agreed to pass expansive border security and immigration reform.

In the House, 207 Democrats joined with 107 Republicans to achieve the two-thirds majority vote necessary to pass the bill. Two Democrats and 106 Republicans, including House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), voted against the measure while 11 members did not vote. The Senate then overwhelmingly passed the spending bill.
Before the measure was passed, the House Freedom Caucus warned against it, calling the spending bill a “surrender” to the Left.
“The @HouseGOP is planning to pass a short-term spending bill continuing Pelosi levels with Biden policies, to buy time to pass longer-term spending bills at Pelosi levels with Biden policies,” the Freedom Caucus <a href="https://twitter.com/freedomcaucus/status/1746711133644279913" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X.
The hardline conservative opposition to the short-term deal ultimately didn’t stop Johnson from moving forward with it, setting up the House for a future showdown on a larger spending bill. 
<h4>March For Life</h4>
The 51st annual <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tens-of-thousands-expected-to-join-march-for-life-in-snowy-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">March for Life</a> took place in Washington, D.C., on Friday as tens of thousands of people braved the snowy, cold conditions to voice their support for the pro-life cause. Main speakers for this year’s March for Life included House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson, and Focus on the Family President and CEO Jim Daly.

“We have to build a culture that encourages and assists more and more people to make that same decision. This is a critical time to help all moms who are facing unplanned pregnancies, to work with foster children, and to help families who are adopting, to volunteer and assist our vital pregnancy resource centers and our maternity homes, and to reach a renewed hand of compassion and to speak the truth in love,” he said.

University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh, who led his team to a national championship victory over the Washington Huskies earlier this month, briefly addressed the crowd gathered for the 51st annual <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tens-of-thousands-expected-to-join-march-for-life-in-snowy-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">March for Life</a> in Washington, D.C., on Friday. 
Harbaugh <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?533055-1/pro-life-advocates-supporters-attend-march-life-rally">appeared on stage</a> to introduce one of the rally’s speakers, former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson, but before he introduced Watson, the Michigan coach gave the crowd some encouragement. 
“Thank you all for being here. It’s a great example that you’re setting,” Harbaugh said. “It’s a testimony to the sanctity of life.” 
“It’s a great day for a march!” Harbaugh added as snow fell on the crowd that had braved the below-freezing temperature to attend the rally and march. “This is football weather! Let’s go!” 
The 2024 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZErpllQ1u8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">March for Life</a> is expected to attract between 50,000 and 100,000 people, according to the organizers. Those who spoke at the rally included House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), and Focus on the Family President and CEO Jim Daly.
Harbaugh, who played quarterback for Michigan and for five different NFL teams, has been interviewed by multiple NFL teams interested in hiring him as their head coach following his 15-0 national championship run at Michigan. The Daily Caller met up with the coach at the march on Friday and asked him what the pro-life cause means to him. 
“You know, we all talk about human rights. There’s really no rights that are important unless you have the right to life,” Harbaugh <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/01/19/coach-jim-harbaugh-march-for-life-michigan-wolverines/">told</a> the Caller. “This is a great day for a march. It’s a great day for the sanctity of life, and football weather. Let’s make it a great day.”
Harbaugh, who is a Catholic, has been unabashed in stating his beliefs on the sanctity of life inside the womb. The coach even said in 2022 that if one of his players or staff members were involved in an unplanned pregnancy and felt they or the mother couldn’t care for the child, then Harbaugh and his wife would help raise the baby.

House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) urged thousands of pro-life demonstrators at the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/march-for-life" target="_blank" rel="noopener">March for Life</a> on Friday in Washington, D.C., to help cultivate a culture of life and continue to support women who may be considering abortions. 
As snow fell down, Johnson told the crowd that they were all there to “celebrate life and what it means to be an American,” pointing to America’s founding and the right to life found in the Declaration of Independence. The march, the second since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, was expected to attract tens of thousands of pro-life demonstrators. 
“Every single person has inestimable dignity and value. Your value is not related in any way to the color of your skin or what zip code you live in, how good you are in sports, where you went to high school, it’s irrelevant. Your value is inherent because it is given to you by your creator,” Johnson <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?c5103145/speaker-johnson-addresses-march-life" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
The House speaker added that he was the product of an unplanned pregnancy and was grateful that his parents chose life.

The march comes after several pro-life defeats at the state level as voters in some states have enshrined abortion into their constitutions. These efforts have been largely funded by Left-wing activists and have heavily outspent pro-life campaigns. 
Johnson has been <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/18/disappointed-and-upset-conservatives-bemoan-lack-of-anti-abortion-win-in-funding-fight-00136235" target="_blank" rel="noopener">facing pressure</a> from some Republicans in Congress to put forward more pro-life legislation in the coming year. House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (R-VA) said that many Republicans would be “disappointed and upset” if more pro-life measures were not approved in 2024.
“You’re not going to get everything that you want when you have divided government,” Good told POLITICO. “But the House majority ought to count for something. We should get at least half of what we want, shouldn’t we?”
On Friday, 10 congressional Republicans <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/10-lawmakers-demand-defense-bill-prohibit-taxpayer-funds-for-abortion-travel-in-letter-to-speaker-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent</a> a letter to Johnson demanding that the Department of Defense’s appropriations bill prohibit taxpayer dollars from being spent on travel for service members to obtain abortions.

Pro-life advocates have once again flooded the nation’s capital for the 51st annual March for Life on Friday even as the city is blanketed with snow and faces below-freezing temperatures. 
The 2024 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZErpllQ1u8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">March for Life</a> is expected to attract between 50,000 and 100,000 people, according to the organizers. Events for the day start with a noon rally near the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History before the pro-life protesters march to the U.S. Capitol and Supreme Court. 
Some of the main <a href="https://marchforlife.org/speakersfor51stmarchforlife/">speakers</a> for this year’s March for Life include House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson, and Focus on the Family President and CEO Jim Daly. 
“We are overjoyed to welcome these inspiring pro-life leaders at this year’s 51st March for Life,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “For the past 51 years, the March for Life has powerfully witnessed to the tragedy of abortion, while calling for stronger protections for women and the unborn. This year’s speakers will address the 2024 theme– Pro-life: With Every Woman, For Every Child, which is at the heart of the pro-life movement, in their remarks. We will also celebrate the heroic work of Pregnancy Care Centers and Maternity Homes, while offering a roadmap to how we will truly achieve a life-affirming culture that respects the inherent dignity of all human life.”
The temperature in D.C. at the time of the rally is expected to be around 31 degrees with a 90% chance of snow, according to <a href="https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/ccf4b8fb22785fec1e6a593d549c0c03a690b1d5acd7edf8775bf53aac18d113d29be69ae7081deb2e8cc9b62509964f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Weather Channel.</a>

The 51st March for Life is the second time pro-life protesters will flock to D.C. since the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade. The annual March for Life began on January 22, 1974, exactly one year after the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down. 
“A lot of people have been saying, ‘We need to stay local, because the decision has been returned to the states,’” said Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/01/19/march-for-life-dc-rally-abortion-rights/">The Washington Post</a>. She added that the pro-life movement still has a lot of work to do at the federal level and emphasized the importance of the 2024 elections which will determine who takes the White House and which party controls Congress.

Long ago, on a cold December night, a man and a pregnant woman arrived at a little town called Bethlehem seeking warmth and shelter. Unfortunately, the one inn that would be able to provide that warmth and shelter was full, leaving the woman no other place to give birth but in a lowly manger surrounded by the animals that fed there.
Now, each year on December 25th we gather with family and loved ones, pass gifts, and share in time honored traditions because of the miracle that occurred that night; the birth of a precious child. For this one day of the year, people hold their loved ones a little tighter, laugh a little louder, and love a little deeper all because of a woman who faced an unexpected pregnancy and the miraculous life that she brought into the world.
While I don&#8217;t know how the story would have changed if there was room in the inn that cold night, I do know that thousands of pregnant women have had their lives beautifully altered thanks to the open doors of maternity homes across the country.
Homes such as the fittingly named Mary’s Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia and Bethlehem House in Omaha, Nebraska, exist to help women who are facing poverty, addiction, abuse and so much more while experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. As these homes help women to embrace life, they offer classes, clothing, materials, and support so that new moms feel confident to bring a child into the world and care for it. Additionally, they help women to further their education, recover from substance abuse, obtain a job, find housing, and become strong and successful in life and in motherhood.
Mary’s Shelter and Bethlehem House are not alone in their compassionate work, however, over <a href="https://www.natlhousingcoalition.org/images/NMHC-Brochure.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">400 community-based maternity homes</a> exist across the nation to empower and support women while providing them with an abundance of love and shelter. Women such as <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2023/07/a-message-to-struggling-mothers-abortion-is-not-your-only-option/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rachel</a>, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/theyre-going-to-take-my-kid-how-i-went-from-homeless-convict-to-successful-mother" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fran</a>, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/my-baby-saved-my-life-help-save-others" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Danielle</a> and thousands of others were offered care and support when the rest of the world seemed to close a door to them.
Rachel, for instance, was seven months pregnant when she escaped years of abuse in order to save herself and her children. When the local domestic violence shelters were full, she turned to Mary&#8217;s Shelter and they provided her with a safe place for her family — full of food, supplies, and love. She now has a successful job as a real estate agent, has started her own charcuterie business, has a beautiful family, and no longer lives in fear of what the next day will bring.
Thanks to the growing number of maternity homes and the strength of the pro-life moment, no woman will be turned away from warmth, hope and safety when facing an unexpected pregnancy.
As we continue in this post-Roe America, the goal of these homes and the pro-life movement is to ensure that each woman knows that she does not have to face an unexpected pregnancy on her own, and that resources and love are offered in abundance to her and her child.
That is why for the 51st annual National March for Life taking place next month, on January 19, we wanted to emphasize the life-saving work of these homes, while spreading the crucial message to women that they are not alone.
This year&#8217;s theme, “<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/compelling-reminder-what-pro-life-mission-all-about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">With every woman, for every child</a>&#8221; highlights the need to love and support both baby and mom, through all nine months of pregnancy and in the many years after. We will gather again in our nation’s capital to not only be a voice for our smallest citizens, but for the women who so courageously carry them.
We will march for both woman and child, so every beating heart knows that the pro-life movement stands with them, and will always open our doors for them. The women who have no job, no home, no support and nowhere to turn are welcomed with open arms into these maternity homes. No matter their position in life, their background, or their story, their existence and the precious life inside of them will make the world a better place.
Just like the many stories of women helped today, the tale of that cold December night is one full of hope, perseverance, and joy. One woman&#8217;s unplanned pregnancy changed the world as we know it, and the beauty of new life now brings us peace and love each year.
For the brave women facing unplanned and unexpected pregnancies, you are loved, and you are never alone. No matter your journey or your destination, there will always, always be room for you at the inn.

&#8220;The Chosen&#8221; star Jonathan Roumie told thousands gathered at the 2023 March for Life rally in Washington, D.C., that &#8220;we are under an assault on our sense of virtue&#8221; as he blasted the media and Hollywood.
During the 48-year-old <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYY2-wf-cl0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">actor&#8217;s speech</a> at the annual event on Friday, Roumie told the crowd that &#8220;God is real&#8221; as he and the group celebrated that &#8220;life has triumphed&#8221; at the first rally since <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/roe-v-wade" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Roe v. Wade</a> was overturned.
He praised the pro-life groups who have advocated for &#8220;the noblest and worthiest cause possible,” then called out the entertainment industry.

&#8220;As an artist in the entertainment industry,&#8221; Roumie said, in the last &#8220;several years, there&#8217;s been a sharp and disturbing increase in the darkness of the imagery being used in film, television, and music.&#8221;
&#8220;The landscape has become increasingly sinister,&#8221; he added. &#8220;And, in some cases, even demonic in tone, more so than in previous years, sometimes subliminal and oftentimes overt. &#8230; Many feature spiritually and psychologically disturbing content.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m referring to the media, which is even more ominous, and I don&#8217;t need to name names,&#8221; the star continued. &#8220;You know it when you see it. … Media has become a portal to behavior and attitudes kids want to emulate that reject God, reject the light, and reject ultimately all those aspects of community which give life.&#8221;
Roumie slammed social media and social media influencers, calling on Christians to &#8220;embrace the counter culture of Christ&#8217;s love&#8221; against the enemy that offers empty lies.
&#8220;They say we live in a post-Christian society. I reject that,&#8221; the actor told the crowd to cheers. &#8220;You can reject that. Change the culture by impacting the culture. Embrace that which is bigger than you.&#8221;
He closed out his more than 16-minute long speech by stating that &#8220;we are under an assault on our sense of virtue.&#8221;
&#8220;We&#8217;re enduring an affront to the innate holiness we are all imbued with and called to,&#8221; Roumie shared. &#8220;And an attack on the family structure and the sacredness of the gift of life.&#8221;
During a recent &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-chosen-fans-crash-movie-site-after-news-breaks-about-season-3-finale" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Chosen&#8221;</a> livestream, the creator and director of the fan-supported series, Dallas Jenkins, announced that the finale of Season 3 will debut in theaters on February 2 and 3.
The first two episodes of Season 3 premiered on the big screen with fans turning out, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/faith-based-series-the-chosen-hits-3-at-box-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">making it No. 3</a> at the box office during opening weekend. Pro-life activists, students, and organizations will gather in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/washington-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington, D.C.</a>, on Friday for the annual <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/march-for-life" target="_blank" rel="noopener">March for Life</a> for the first time since the Supreme Court’s historic decision to strike down <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/roe-v-wade" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Roe v. Wade</a>. 
The gathering comes just days before the 50th anniversary of Roe, in which the Supreme Court declared a constitutional right to abortion. With Roe gone, pro-life groups and legislators now see an opportunity to expand protections for life even as deep blue states further entrench abortion in their own state laws and constitutions. 
&#8220;The pro-life movement has just experienced a major victory in the fall of Roe v. Wade, but our work to build a culture of life is far from complete. This year’s march will reflect upon the Dobbs decision as a critical — and celebratory — milestone but will also be a time to look forward to the next steps, such as the need to continue marching annually in Washington, D.C., as well as expanding marches in the states, to advance legal protections for the unborn,” March for Life President Jeanne Mancini said in a statement obtained by The Daily Wire. 
Mancini added that the next steps for pro-lifers included supporting maternity homes and pregnancy resource centers for women in need of assistance. 
One such group that serves pregnancy centers in the U.S. and around the world is Heartbeat International, a network of pregnancy resource centers with over 3,000 affiliates. The group, which received a surge of phone calls in the months following the leak of the Dobbs draft decision, argued that the end of Roe is only the beginning of the pro-life movement.
“The mission has not changed for us or our centers at all. What we have seen is this shift, primarily to the growth of the abortion pill,” Andrea Trudden, communications director for Heartbeat International, told The Daily Wire in an interview. Heartbeat International manages the Abortion Pill Rescue Network, a group that provides resources to help reverse pill abortions.
Medication abortions, which <a href="https://www.guttmacher.org/article/2022/02/medication-abortion-now-accounts-more-half-all-us-abortions">now account for over 50%</a> of all abortions according to some estimates, are only expected to increase, especially with the FDA’s removal of abortion pill restrictions under President Joe Biden. 
One reason is that abortion pills, which can be mailed, are seen as a potential way for those seeking abortions to bypass state laws. In Texas, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/abortions-in-texas-plummet-nearly-99-months-after-dobbs-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">some estimates</a> show abortions down as much as 99% post-Dobbs, though activist groups are still concerned about the prevalence of the abortion pill. 
Trudden said that the rise of the abortion pill narrows the window of preventing abortions, meaning that they need to be “faster” in responding to needs and providing care. She said that Heartbeat International would be working to provide more comprehensive care to women and increase the technological reach of the organization.
“As we continue to follow what the abortion side is doing, we do need to, and are planning to, adapt a little bit more as well,” Trudden said. “We are working with technology to be able to provide similar care [remotely] as to what she would receive inside a center as well.”
While the work of pro-life organizations remains very much the same in terms of providing resources and care to women, pro-abortion and pro-life legislators have taken opposite paths to approach the post-Roe legal world. 
While some action at the congressional level has been attempted, most of the legal battles will likely be at the state level thanks to the Supreme Court.
States like California, Vermont, and Michigan have all put abortion into their state constitutions while broad abortion bans have gone into effect in states like Alabama and Tennessee. In Kansas, a pro-life amendment failed at the ballot box in August, leading many pro-abortion advocates to declare that the Dobbs decision would be a hindrance to Republicans and the future of pro-life legislation. 
State abortion bans are challenged by the overwhelming number of corporations and even cities that have offered or want to provide funding for women to travel out of state to get an abortion. Additionally, despite the Supreme Court’s decision, lower courts have still proved to be a problem for pro-life laws in states like South Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona. 
Tennessee’s ban, which was triggered by the Dobbs decision, is already facing potential challenges, even though the state is overwhelmingly Republican. The upcoming legislative session is expected to debate adding exceptions to the law, with some Republicans arguing that exceptions for rape and incest should be added. 
While some Republicans have watered down their response to abortion, others in many states are now pushing for the <a href="https://freethestates.org/get-involved/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">full abolition</a> of abortion, arguing that Republicans have no excuses now to not fully protect life. 
While legal questions remain, pro-lifers remain steadfast in their beliefs and continue to march. Noah Collazo, a Liberty University freshman, is joining about 500 other students and Morse Tan, the dean of Liberty University School of Law and former U.S. Ambassador at Large for Global Criminal Justice, in marching in D.C. 
“We’re about to head to Washington, D.C., to stand for pro-life and for the legislators there who are standing for freedom and for the protection of the unborn,” Collazo said in a statement to The Daily Wire before getting on a bus to head to the march. “It’s definitely cool seeing all these people so early in the morning — so many of us showing up to stand for what we believe in.”

A lot can change in two years. I would know.
Just two years ago, I sat in a treatment facility waiting for a psychiatric drug prescription, careless as the passing minutes slowly wasted away. I had nothing to live for.  The doctor finally returned, and I numbly looked up, unprepared for her explosive revelation: &#8220;We&#8217;re sending you home on prenatals!” she announced.
I was shocked.  I&#8217;d just gotten out of jail, and it couldn&#8217;t be possible that a brief rendezvous with my former drug dealer had resulted in a new baby.
Shock turned to panic. They’re going to take my kid. I’d already permanently lost custody of four children. The loss of another one would break me.
As I sat there crying, abortion seemingly my only option, I had no idea that a home called Bethlehem House would soon save my life.
Bethlehem House was founded in 2005 to shelter and heal pregnant women struggling with addictions, homelessness, poverty, and lack of family support – among other challenges. 
Sadly, I was the perfect candidate. My childhood was rife with trauma and abuse. I was sexually assaulted when I was only 14-years-old.  By the time I was 16, I was already living completely on my own, working full-time, and completing school. Against all odds, I graduated as valedictorian of my high school class. I then went straight into the workforce and got married. 
My marriage quickly devolved, as my husband became abusive and disclosed a serious drug addiction that he eventually passed on to me.  Five years and four children later, my addiction led me to lose my house, my job, and eventually my kids.
The loss of my children was by far the most painful blow of my life.
I spent months fighting to sober up, achieve housing stability, and regain custody of them – only for CPS to swoop in again and permanently tear my babies away even though at the time I was finally doing everything right.  After that, I felt acutely that I had nothing left to live for.
In despair, I spent the next 17 months destroying what was left of my life. I became a homeless criminal with two warrants in two different states, living on the run as I stole cars and sold drugs for a living.
It wasn’t until I was robbed at gunpoint that I finally abandoned this lifestyle. With nothing left to lose, I turned myself in to the nearest jail where I served 10 months. I was released on the condition I would seek treatment.
That’s what brought me to the treatment facility, where I sat crying,  terrified of losing yet another child.  Why should I carry a child to term, I wondered,  if the state is just going to take him or her from me in the end?
Yet despite my shock and fear, I wondered if  it could be possible that this unexpected pregnancy was instead a second chance at life.  I knew I wanted to keep this baby  — but how?
After learning about Bethlehem House, I visited. I was met with a familiar face in the home’s Family Life Director who had run my support group in jail. There I was showered with love, and the staff literally wept with me when I shared the painful history that had brought me to their doorstep. I knew from that moment I was in the right place.
I stayed at Bethlehem House for the next seven months, during which time they offered me professional counseling to heal my trauma and mental instabilities, as well as a wide range of practical classes to help me regain my confidence and re-establish myself: from parenting and sexual integrity to financial literacy and more. I grew extremely close with the other women living in the home at the time, and I flourished in the stable family structure I’d been lacking my whole life.
The strong  women at Bethlehem House encouraged me to set goals that would help me and my son Brandon in the long run. My determination to not only keep Brandon, but also to create a stable and healthy life for him motivated me to achieve those goals, and within two years  of the day  that  I first showed up homeless on  the doorstep of Bethlehem House I had — every single one. 
I acquired housing, completed my college degree, paid off $10k in debt, purchased a car, and got my license back. I got a job at Jiffy Lube,  and within a year I was promoted to store manager. I am currently pursuing a district manager position at the company, and I am working on my next goal: home ownership.
For the first time ever, I am completely free of government assistance. I’m also four years clean.
Looking back on the trajectory of my life, I am amazed to see my miraculous transformation from a broken, hopeless, and despairing woman to a sober, hard-working, and successful mom. 
All of this is thanks to the abundance of resources, support, and love Bethlehem House  showered on me, offering me a second chance at life. And all of it is for my beautiful, energetic, and smart 2-year-old son Brandon.

New guidelines <a href="https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/07/13/hhs-issues-guidance-nations-retail-pharmacies-clarifying-their-obligations-ensure-access-comprehensive-reproductive-health-care-services.html">issued</a> by the Department of Health and Human Services&#8217; Office of Civil Rights emphasize to <a href="https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2021/aug/competition-consolidation-evolution-pharmacy-market#:~:text=Of%20the%20roughly%2060%2C000%20retail,percent%20of%20retail%20prescription%20revenues.">roughly</a> 60,000 pharmacies in the United States that refusing to fill prescriptions for abortion drugs is pregnancy discrimination.
&#8220;The guidance makes clear that as recipients of federal financial assistance, including Medicare and Medicaid payments, pharmacies are prohibited under law from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, and disability in their programs and activities,&#8221; HHS said in a release.
The department added: &#8220;This includes supplying prescribed medications; making determinations regarding the suitability of prescribed medications for a patient; and advising a patient about prescribed medications and how to take them.&#8221;
The health department framed the move as its latest step in response to the overturn of Roe v. Wade — Secretary Xavier Becerra promised that HHS is &#8220;committed to ensuring that everyone can access healthcare, free of discrimination.&#8221;
&#8220;This includes access to prescription medication,&#8221; Becerra said, &#8220;including birth control, miscarriage management, and medication abortion from their pharmacy.”
Pro-life and conservative leaders told The Daily Wire that such an order violates the conscience rights of pharmacists nationwide.
&#8220;This move signals that the Biden administration is more concerned with their own political agenda over the health and religious liberties of the American people,&#8221; Heritage Action Executive Director Jessica Anderson said Monday.
&#8220;With abortion medication responsible for over half of abortions in the nation, these guidelines are both hypocritical and completely misaligned with the values and priorities of the American people,&#8221; she added.
Jeanne Mancini, the head of the annual March for Life, accused the Biden administration of maliciously seeking to &#8220;conflate&#8221; healthcare with abortion.
&#8220;Deliberately ending a human life is the diametric opposite of healthcare,&#8221; Mancini said. &#8220;It is outrageous that the administration is taking the further step of forcing Americans to fall in line with this misguided and deadly agenda.&#8221;
&#8220;Pharmacists, like all medical professionals, have the right to honor their consciences and mission to preserve and protect life, without government interference,&#8221; she added.
And Catholic Vote&#8217;s Brian Burch warned that not only would the Biden administration be &#8220;superseding state laws that protect women and children from these dangerous drugs&#8221; through such a move — it also would be directly contradicting the Biden administration&#8217;s policies adopted toward opioid prescriptions.
Biden&#8217;s plan to curb the opioid crisis <a href="https://www.law360.com/articles/1323869/biden-opioid-plan-puts-pharmacies-on-notice">reminds</a> small companies and distributors that they too can be held accountable, calling for federal investigations into distributors of opioids.
The president&#8217;s <a href="https://joebiden.com/opioidcrisis/">plan also calls</a> for banning drug manufacturers from paying or incentivizing physicians and other prescribers.
&#8220;Pharmaceutical companies work hard to persuade doctors and other medical personnel to prescribe their products,&#8221; the president&#8217;s plan states. &#8220;These companies <a href="https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/01/190122084356.htm">essentially pay</a> providers to prescribe opioids and other drugs by, for example, paying providers to speak at or attend conferences, or consult for their companies. By banning these practices, Biden will ensure that patients’ lives do not take a <a href="https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/05/180514132441.htm">backseat to doctors’ bottom line</a>s.&#8221;
&#8220;Tellingly, when it comes to opioids, the administration has pressured and even investigated pharmacists who rely solely on physicians who prescribe opioids – despite the fact that opioids can be prescribed for valid health conditions including disabilities,&#8221; Burch said.

As Thousands March For Life, Democrats Are Out Of Step With Majority

Hope has been an essential part of the March for Life since the first march in 1974, but rarely has that hope seemed so palpable or concrete as it does now. That’s because this year, the Supreme Court will issue a ruling in the landmark abortion case Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization, which could right a historic injustice and transform the way we protect life in America.
The case involves a <a href="https://legiscan.com/MS/text/HB1510/2018">2018 Mississippi law</a> that bans most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The Supreme Court is set to determine whether that 15-week limit or any pre-viability limits on abortion are constitutional – a decision with profound ramifications for the lives of all Americans, particularly those yet to be born.
The justices will determine another matter of crucial importance to the future of our constitutional democracy: Is abortion policy best decided in a courtroom by a panel of unelected judges (such as the all-male Supreme Court that usurped the people’s voice in Roe v. Wade) or by elected officials in state legislatures and Congress, who are accountable to their constituents?
If Mississippi’s law survives its Supreme Court test, authority to determine abortion policy would return to the states. The tragedy of abortion would not disappear overnight. Rather, the battle for life would shift to state legislatures, where the resulting laws will finally mirror the wishes of the people – an opportunity for pro-life leaders to build consensus. “It will be messy and it will be hard, and may play out differently from state to state,” <a href="https://twitter.com/LynnFitchAG/status/1465031821117300741?s=20">tweeted</a> Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “But that is the role the Constitution gave to the people, and the court needs to return to us now.”
We live in a very different world from that of the Roe Court nearly half a century ago. Dramatic advances in medicine and technology have opened new frontiers in our understanding of how human beings develop before birth.
Technology has come a long way since the days when grainy black-and-white dots on a machine provided only a basic shadowy image of an unborn baby. By week 15 today, we can see an unborn child’s fully formed nose, lips, eyes and eyebrows. We can often tell whether the child will be left-handed or right-handed based on which thumb he or she prefers to suck. Science tells us that by 15 weeks, <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/15-facts-at-15-weeks/">every major organ has developed</a> and most are functional. More critically, we know now that by the 15th week, the unborn child’s brain can <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/15-facts-at-15-weeks/">process pain</a>. Armed with insights like these, basic compassion demands that we protect children in the womb.
Americans agree that our policies should reflect these realities. In an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research <a href="https://apnews.com/article/only-on-ap-us-supreme-court-abortion-religion-health-2c569aa7934233af8e00bef4520a8fa8">poll</a> released last June, 65% of Americans said abortion should usually be illegal in the second trimester, with 80% saying it should be illegal in the third trimester.
Nevertheless, the United States lags behind Europe in recognizing the march of scientific progress.
There Mississippi’s law is the norm rather than the exception, with <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/comparing-mississippi-limit-with-european-laws/">47 out of 50 European countries</a> placing limits on elective abortions at 15 weeks or earlier – eight don’t allow elective abortion at all. During oral arguments for Dobbs in December, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/supreme-court-mississippi-abortion-case-oral-arguments-2021-12-01/">Chief Justice Roberts noted</a> the shocking <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/10/09/is-the-united-states-one-of-seven-countries-that-allow-elective-abortions-after-20-weeks-of-pregnancy/">fact</a> that America’s unlimited abortion-on-demand policy has more in common with China and North Korea than what we think of as progressive Europe.
Rather than having a sound foundation in the Constitution, Roe relied on flawed and now outdated science that contended an unborn child could not be viable outside the womb prior to 24 weeks of pregnancy. Advances in medical care allow premature babies born at just <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/fact-sheet-science-of-fetal-pain/">week 22</a>, and sometimes earlier, to survive and thrive. <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/dive-deeper/fetal-surgery-treating-babies-before-they-are-born/">Groundbreaking fetal surgeries</a> have made it possible to treat conditions like spina bifida or twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome right in the womb and save babies before they are even born – making it impossible to ignore that there are at least two patients in every pregnancy.
This is a culminating moment for the pro-life moment, and life is winning. The Dobbs case shows that our decades of work, sacrifice and prayers are making a difference, that we were right not to give up, and that the dismantling of Roe is a real possibility – all reasons for optimism. At this year’s March for Life on Jan. 21, our faces will reflect the hope that our representative legislatures will soon allow “We the People” to speak on behalf of the unborn.
