Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) conceded over the weekend that the U.S. southern border is in a serious crisis under President Joe Biden, whom she refused to call the party&#8217;s best option for 2024.
Hassan made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Kristen Welker on NBC News&#8217;s &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; while discussing New Hampshire&#8217;s presidential primary election this week.
When asked if Biden was &#8220;the strongest and best candidate to take on&#8221; the Republican nominee this fall, Hassan repeatedly declined to answer the question.
&#8220;Look, we will be talking about his record,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We have more work to do, to be sure. Things are too expensive, especially housing and healthcare.&#8221;
&#8220;I think President Biden has the strongest record to run on that we&#8217;ve seen in a very long time in this country,&#8221; she later added. &#8220;I think there is a lot of anxiety in this country about prices. That&#8217;s why we need to continue the work that we&#8217;ve done.&#8221;
Welker asked Hassan if she agreed with Biden&#8217;s admission last week that the U.S. southern border was not secure.
&#8220;The border is in crisis,&#8221; Hassan said. &#8220;I have long been saying we need to improve security. It&#8217;s not where it needs to be.&#8221;
Welker then asked, &#8220;Given that, should President Biden strike a deal with Republicans, even if it means giving up some of what Democrats want on issues of asylum and parole?&#8221;

&#8220;We have been urging our Republican colleagues now for the last couple of months, and before that for a long time, to come to the table and strike a bipartisan deal on the border and immigration,&#8221; Hassan said. &#8220;The Biden Administration, along with Senate Democrats and House Democrats back in the last Congress, actually increased our investment in border security. We need them to come to the table and compromise and get this done.&#8221;

On Thursday, Florida GOP Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ron-desantis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ron DeSantis</a> endorsed New Hampshire GOP senatorial candidate General Don Bolduc, who is in a neck-and-neck battle with incumbent Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan.
Bolduc became the youngest police officer in New Hampshire’s history at the age of 18, later serving for 33 years in the United States Army, as his <a href="https://donbolduc.com/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">campaign website</a> noted. In his career, he led one of the first groups into Afghanistan while riding on horseback and led the 3rd Special Forces group in Operation Medusa, as well as earning five Bronze Star medals and two Purple Hearts.

As of Thursday, a race that had been conceded to Hassan early in the campaign has turned into a statistical tie. As of November 1, the <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/senate/nh/new-hampshire-senate-bolduc-vs-hassan-7379.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RealClearPolitics average</a> showed Bolduc leading by 0.3 percentage points.
As recently as September 19, Hassan held a 9.5 point lead in the RCP average, 50% to 40.5%, but her numbers have steadily dropped to 47% while Bolduc’s have risen to 47.3%.
Ironically, the Democrats’ Senate Majority PAC spent over $3.2 million in the Republican primary to attack state Senate President Chuck Morse in the belief that he would be a more formidable foe than Bolduc in the general election. Bolduc didn’t even have enough money to spend on ads in the primary.
But his status as a true political outsider, someone who has never held elective office, has appealed to New Hampshire voters, Andrew Cline <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/an-new-hampshire-maggie-hassan-don-bolduc-election-midterms-nomination-gop-political-analysis-11667507255" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> in The Wall Street Journal, adding of Hassan, “She doesn’t release her public schedule, hasn’t had an open press conference in years, and studiously avoids engaging with anyone who isn’t screened by her staff.”
In their debate on Wednesday night, Bolduc <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/hassan-bolduc-trade-fire-final-showdown-after-gop-nominee-comes-under-attack-arriving-debate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> of Hassan that “all her votes in the Senate have caused this heating and eating issue that we have. Retirees going back to work. She’s created it by her 100% support to Joe Biden’s failed policies. … She’s caused these problems for many Granite Staters going into the winter not knowing how they’ll feed their children and heat their homes.&#8221;

New Hampshire Republican Senate candidate Don Bolduc dodged a punch from a man who tried to assault him just before his debate Wednesday evening with incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), his campaign said Thursday.
According to Bolduc&#8217;s campaign, the man attempted to physically strike the GOP nominee for the closely watched race outside Saint Anselm College, where the debate was held. Joseph Hart, 37, of Greenville, Rhode Island, was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident, Goffstown Police <a href="https://www.wcvb.com/article/don-bolduc-says-someone-attempted-to-punch-him-nh-republican-us-senate-candidate/41854338#">said</a>.
&#8220;Prior to the debate, an individual in the crowd gathered outside attempted to punch the General and was quickly apprehended and arrested. We are grateful [for] the quick response from law enforcement on the scene,&#8221; Bolduc campaign spokesperson Kate Constantini <a href="https://www.wcvb.com/article/don-bolduc-says-someone-attempted-to-punch-him-nh-republican-us-senate-candidate/41854338#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Bolduc, 60, a retired U.S. Army brigadier general, was unharmed and went on to face off against Hassan in their third and final debate before Election Day.
Bolduc vaguely referenced the incident on stage during the debate.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a sign of the times. It&#8217;s a sign of political problems. Republicans and Democrats that fuel issues with people that get them to the point where they are just so upset at an individual that they strike out at them,&#8221; Bolduc said.
&#8220;[It] happened to me outside just before I came in here. This is wrong and it needs to be stopped,&#8221; he said.
Bolduc&#8217;s campaign added to his remarks in a statement after the debate.
“As the General said on stage tonight, it’s time to lower the temperature of the political discourse in this country,” a Bolduc campaign spokesperson <a href="https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/bolduc-campaign-republican-candidate-nh-senate-was-target-attack-prior-debate/OK5YRM5BGZA2RICDWBQFDL3YPI/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Boston 25 News.
The Hassan campaign condemned the attempted attack on Bolduc and claimed the would-be attacker was a Libertarian Party activist.
“Disgusting behavior,” <a href="https://twitter.com/kdonohoenh/status/1587989182194089984" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Kevin Donohoe, a spokesperson for the Hassan campaign, in a tweet. “We saw this same libertarian party activist get aggressive with our campaign volunteers at this debate and the last.”
Goffstown Police said the man approached Bolduc while he was greeting supporters.
Previously, Saint Anselm College officials had asked Hart to leave the campus, saying he was no longer welcome on the property, police said. Hart was in the crowd of dozens of supporters of both candidates.
“A short time later, a disturbance occurred when Mr. Hart approached Mr. Bolduc who was greeting his supporters,” Goffstown Police <a href="https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/ri-man-charged-disturbance-after-approaching-nh-senate-candidate-don-bolduc-before-debate/OK5YRM5BGZA2RICDWBQFDL3YPI/">said</a>. “Officers converged on the area and all parties were separated. Following that disturbance, Mr. Hart was taken into custody by the Goffstown Police Department and charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.”
“This incident is under investigation,” police said.
Hart has been released on personal recognizance bail. He is set to be arraigned on December 1 at the Goffstown District Court.
Hassan herself tweeted out a statement denouncing the incident.
&#8220;The behavior of the Libertarian Party agitators toward Don Bolduc last night was despicable,&#8221; the incumbent senator <a href="https://twitter.com/Maggie_Hassan/status/1588176668824322049">wrote</a>. &#8220;I want to thank the Goffstown Police and St. Anselm College for their commitment to keeping everyone safe.&#8221;
Bolduc and Hassan are in a dead-heat race for Hassan&#8217;s Senate seat. New Hampshire could be having a “General” election on Tuesday.
Retired <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bolduc-within-striking-distance-of-hassan-in-latest-polling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Army Brigadier General Don Bolduc</a> has taken the lead in what began as a longshot bid to unseat New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan, according to a <a href="https://www.thetrafalgargroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/NH-General-1102-Full-Report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new Trafalgar/Daily Wire poll</a>. The new data came just hours before the pair squared off in their second debate Wednesday night, where Bolduc blasted Hassan for backing what he called President Biden&#8217;s lax border policies.
&#8220;We&#8217;ve left it wide open for human trafficking, which is a national disgrace,&#8221; Bolduc charged. &#8220;We&#8217;ve left it open for weapons, illicit weapons  and worse, fentanyl that are killing our children.&#8221;
&#8220;This is a problem that the Biden administration and Maggie Hassan have created because of bad policy,&#8221; he added.
In the exclusive new survey, Bolduc’s support stood at 47%, while Hassan was at 45.7%. Libertarian Jeremy Kauffman had 4% and another 3.2% of respondents were undecided.
“What we’re seeing right now is a lot of his support consolidating,” said Robert Cahaly, founder of Trafalgar Group, noting that both Bolduc and his vanquished primary opponent, Chuck Morse, both led Hassan in hypothetical matchups before the primaries. “This is kind of the direction the race has been moving, and the undecideds are still very anti-Biden.”

Bolduc’s momentum comes as fellow Republican candidates are surging around the nation and the GOP appears poised to capture the House and possibly Senate majorities. The poll, taken from Oct. 30-Nov. 1, surveyed 1,241 respondents and has a 2.9% margin of error.
The Republican’s campaign had remained under the national radar for months, as pundits and party leaders focused on higher-profile races in Arizona, Georgia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. But when the military veteran closed to within the margin of error late last month, the National Republican Senatorial Committee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/republicans-commit-1-million-to-boost-senate-candidate-don-bolduc-in-new-hampshires-razor-thin-race/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pumped $1 million</a> into his campaign.
Hassan, a former Granite State governor, is seeking her second term in the U.S. Senate. In Wednesday&#8217;s debate, she touted her record as governor, called Bolduc an &#8220;extremist&#8221; and warned conservative &#8220;rhetoric&#8221; was leading to violence.
Bolduc, 60, ran for New Hampshire’s other U.S. Senate seat in 2020 but lost in the Republican primary.

Unlike voters in many other states, New Hampshire residents who aren&#8217;t voting absentee wait until the big day to cast their ballots, Cahaly said.
“Worth noting on this race: Very little early vote,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This is all election day.”
Wednesday&#8217;s debate came after Bolduc received an endorsement from former President Trump, who described him as a “strong and proud ‘Election Denier,’ a big reason that he won the nomination.”
Bolduc has also benefited from high-profile endorsements from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a fellow military veteran who recently left the Democratic Party.
The New Hampshire race is one of several Senate contests that could hold the key to breaking the 50-50 deadlock that, for now, can only be snapped by a vote from Vice President Kamala Harris.

Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) suggested Monday that she does not believe she is a shoo-in for a second Senate term.
At a campaign event in Derry, New Hampshire, Hassan warned Granite Staters that it is a tight contest between her and Republican Don Bolduc.
“This has always been a close race,” Hassan said. “It’s going to be a close race. We are New Hampshire. We are a very purple state.”

However, the race was not so close just three weeks ago, when Hassan led Bolduc by 9 points, the former governor garnering 50% to Bolduc&#8217;s 41%, according to a Suffolk University <a href="https://www.suffolk.edu/news-features/news/2022/09/29/13/53/2022-nh-poll">poll</a>.
Hassan still leads Bolduc by 3 points, <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/senate/nh/new-hampshire-senate-bolduc-vs-hassan-7379.html">according</a> to the Real Clear Politics average of polls, but her lead was <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20221017153630/https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/senate/nh/new-hampshire-senate-bolduc-vs-hassan-7379.html">nearly</a> 6 points at the beginning of last week.
Bolduc, a former Army general, has raised and spent much less money than Hassan over the course of the campaign, but in recent weeks he has surged in the polls and come within striking distance.
Bolduc was initially heavily supported by the Senate Leadership Fund, which is backed by Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell. However, on Friday, the fund <a href="https://wfin.com/fox-political-news/democratic-sen-maggie-hassan-touts-effort-to-push-biden-administration-to-do-more-to-lower-energy-prices/">pulled</a> the last $5.6 million it had planned to spend on ads for Bolduc amid concerns about his ability to win. This week though, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3703659-gop-senate-campaign-arm-jumping-back-into-new-hampshire/">announced</a> it would support Bolduc and put seven figures toward TV ads.
&#8220;Don Bolduc is running a great race against Maggie Hassan, who’s being weighed down by her full-throated support for Joe Biden and his agenda that’s hurting New Hampshire families,&#8221; said Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), who chairs the NRSC.
“Our polling, along with recent public polling, shows that this race is in the margin of error and winnable,&#8221; Scott said.
Last week, the candidates clashed when they met face-to-face for a <a href="https://www.wmur.com/article/maggie-hassan-don-bolduc-nh-debate-video/41688228#">debate</a>.
&#8220;She wouldn&#8217;t even know what a town hall looks like unless it&#8217;s through Zoom,&#8221; Bolduc <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9APoLMLuzLE">said</a>.
Hassan continued to emphasize her support for abortion on demand.
&#8220;Don Bolduc&#8217;s record makes clear he would be a &#8216;yes&#8217; vote for a national abortion ban,&#8221; Hassan said.
The candidates also appeared together Tuesday morning for a candidate forum at a restaurant in Rye, New Hampshire.
At that event, Bolduc criticized Hassan for running &#8220;attack&#8221; ads against him, saying the lack of civility is &#8220;wrong.&#8221;
&#8220;I will not lower myself to that level. I will not do that. You deserve better in your public servants,&#8221; Bolduc said.
Toward the end of the event, Hassan called her opponent “possibly the most extreme opponent nominee for the United State Senate that New Hampshire has seen in modern history.”
Inflation and energy have also been prominent issues in this race.
Bolduc has called to cut spending to slow inflation. Hassan said she plans to continue to push the Biden administration to do more to lower the cost of home heating fuel this winter, but so far, prices remain high.
Hassan was joined on the campaign trail Monday by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who praised her as &#8220;the most uniting force in the United States Senate.&#8221;
Up to now, the New Hampshire race has not been as closely watched as other high-profile Senate races like those in Pennsylvania and Georgia.
With Bolduc nipping at Hassan&#8217;s heels in the campaign&#8217;s last two weeks, though, the race could attract more national attention.

The Senate race in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-hampshire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New Hampshire</a> is a single-digit race, according to recent polls.
Don Bolduc trails Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) by seven points with 45% support to Hassan&#8217;s 52%, <a href="https://www.aarp.org/content/dam/aarp/research/surveys_statistics/politics/2022/aarp-new-hampshire-2022-elections-voter-survey.doi.10.26419-2Fres.00550.026.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the latest AARP poll.
The retired Army general <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/don-bolduc-claims-victory-in-new-hampshire-senate-primary-chuck-morse-concedes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> the Republican nomination in September, beating out his closest competitor, state Sen. Chuck Morse (R), by a slim margin. Bolduc <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/09/13/us/elections/results-new-hampshire-us-senate.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">garnered</a> 37.1% of the vote to Morse&#8217;s 35.8%.
Last week, two other polls showed Hassan with an even smaller lead over her challengers, which include Libertarian Party candidate Jeremy Kauffman, as well as Bolduc.
According to a St. Anselm College <a href="https://www.anselm.edu/sites/default/files/Documents/NHIOP/Polls/SACSC_NHSW_0922_Book.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> released last Tuesday, Hassan has a lead of just six points over Bolduc, 49% to Bolduc&#8217;s 43%.
According to yet another poll from the Trafalgar Group, Hassan <a href="https://nhjournal.com/bolduc-bounce-two-new-polls-put-nh-senate-race-in-single-digits/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leads</a> Bolduc by only three points with 48.2% to Bolduc&#8217;s 45%.
In both polls, 4% of voters said they plan to vote for a different candidate, likely the Libertarian Party nominee.
Other polls are less rosy for Bolduc. A Suffolk University <a href="https://www.suffolk.edu/news-features/news/2022/09/29/13/53/2022-nh-poll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> from last month puts Hassan nine points over Bolduc, leading 50% to 41%. Hassan also enjoys more support from Democratic voters than Bolduc does among Republican voters, according to the AARP poll.
However, Hassan, a first-term senator, is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrat senators this election cycle. She won by a tiny margin of about 1,000 votes in 2016, but her job approval has sunk since then.
Democrats have assumed that the more conservative Bolduc will be a weaker candidate against Hassan than the more moderate Morse, but with President Joe Biden’s poll numbers <a href="https://graphics.reuters.com/USA-BIDEN/POLL/nmopagnqapa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declining</a> over the economy, that remains to be proven.
Meanwhile, Hassan has dug her heels in on ultra-progressive issues like late-term abortion, making her support of the procedure all the way through the third trimester part of her campaign. The polarizing issue could end up costing her with Granite State moderates.
Over the summer, Bolduc told The Daily Wire that inflation is the top issue facing New Hampshire voters this fall.
“People can’t afford a new car and can’t afford the gas. They can’t afford their groceries. They’re trading all of this, all of these decisions and putting that money towards keeping their vehicle going in order to be able to support their family and get to their jobs,” Bolduc <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/its-the-economy-stupid-gop-new-hampshire-senate-candidates-slam-maggie-hassan-on-inflation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in July.
Despite their lagging poll numbers, Bolduc&#8217;s campaign remains confident, saying that Hassan&#8217;s presence on the campaign trail in New Hampshire borders on nonexistent.
“Gen. Bolduc has done more public events in the past 36 hours than Maggie Hassan has done in the past 36 weeks. She’s a ghost and Granite Staters know it. She doesn’t have the courage to face voters after what she’s put them through and the bill comes due on November 8,” Rick Wiley, a Bolduc campaign strategist, <a href="https://nhjournal.com/bolduc-bounce-two-new-polls-put-nh-senate-race-in-single-digits/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the New Hampshire Journal.
Since winning his primary, Bolduc <a href="https://nhjournal.com/hidin-hassan-dem-averaging-just-one-campaign-event-per-week-in-re-elect-bid/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has made</a> dozens of in-person campaign stops, appearing at town halls almost daily where he takes questions from voters. Meanwhile, Hassan has held few public campaign events.
In the campaign spending category though, Hassan beats Bolduc by a long shot. Hassan has <a href="https://nhjournal.com/hidin-hassan-dem-averaging-just-one-campaign-event-per-week-in-re-elect-bid/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spent</a> at least $24 million on her campaign, while Bolduc has spent slightly more than $500,000.

Don Bolduc has claimed victory in New Hampshire&#8217;s Republican <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2022-midterms">primary</a> for Senate.
The Associated Press has not yet called the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2022-election">race</a> for Bolduc, but he leads his opponent, state Senator Chuck Morse, by about one percentage point.
The retired Army general <a href="https://www.wmur.com/article/republican-candidates-primary-senate-91322/41198373#">garnered</a> 37% of the vote to Morse&#8217;s 36%, a lead of only about 1,300 votes with 90% of precincts reporting.
Morse said he called Bolduc early Wednesday morning and wished him the best, apparently conceding the race.
&#8220;It’s been a long night &amp; we’ve come up short. I want to thank my supporters for all the blood, sweat &amp; tears they poured into this team effort. I just called and wished all the best to @GenDonBolduc. The focus this fall needs to be on defeating Maggie Hassan,&#8221; Morse <a href="https://twitter.com/Morse4Senate/status/1569934104963022848">tweeted</a> early Wednesday.
Shortly after Morse&#8217;s tweet, Bolduc tweeted that the GOP is &#8220;one step closer&#8221; to flipping the Senate.
&#8220;Our campaign overcame the odds and millions of dollars in spending from outside special interest groups because we built a true bottom-up grassroots campaign. Throughout the primary, I have felt the concerns of the voters, and heard time and again we need to send an outsider to Washington,&#8221; Bolduc said in a victory <a href="https://twitter.com/GenDonBolduc/status/1569916323680976898">statement</a> Tuesday night.
He added that &#8220;out of touch career politicians&#8221; like Hassan &#8220;spend millions on TV ads&#8221; rather than town halls and debates.
&#8220;I am going to keep campaigning the New Hampshire way,&#8221; Bolduc said.
Bolduc&#8217;s apparent victory means he will face incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) in the fall.
Hassan also won her primary Tuesday night with no substantial opposition and called Bolduc &#8220;simply too extreme&#8221; for New Hampshire.
&#8220;This campaign will be a clear contrast between my record of delivering for the people of New Hampshire and Don Bolduc’s radical, backward-looking agenda,&#8221; Hassan said.
Hassan, a first-term senator, is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrat senators this election cycle. She won by a tiny margin of about 1,000 votes in 2016, but her job approval has sunk since then. Democrats have assumed that the more conservative Bolduc would be a weaker candidate against Hassan than the more moderate Morse, but with President Joe Biden&#8217;s poll numbers <a href="https://graphics.reuters.com/USA-BIDEN/POLL/nmopagnqapa/">declining</a> over the economy, that remains to be proven.
Meanwhile, Hassan has dug her heels in on ultra-progressive issues like late-term abortion, making her support of the procedure all the way through the third trimester part of her campaign. The polarizing issue could end up costing her with Granite State moderates.
Over the summer, Bolduc told The Daily Wire that inflation is the top issue facing New Hampshire voters this fall.
“People can’t afford a new car and can’t afford the gas. They can’t afford their groceries. They’re trading all of this, all of these decisions and putting that money towards keeping their vehicle going in order to be able to support their family and get to their jobs,” Bolduc <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/its-the-economy-stupid-gop-new-hampshire-senate-candidates-slam-maggie-hassan-on-inflation">said</a> in July.
During the primary, the other Republican Senate candidates struggled with name recognition, a problem Bolduc was less beset by as voters remembered him from when he ran for Senate in 2020.
Thanks to New Hampshire&#8217;s late primary, Bolduc has just eight weeks to campaign as the primary winner until the general election in November.

The Deep State&#8217;s raid — er, scratch that — the Department of Justice&#8217;s (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation&#8217;s (FBI) raid on former President Donald J. Trump&#8217;s Mar-a-Lago home shocked the nation Monday and sent a jolt into mid-term races across the land.
A new poll from Trafalgar Polling and Convention of States <a href="https://www.thetrafalgargroup.org/news/nat-issues-survey-fbi-raid-motivation-0810/">reveals</a> that 53.9% of independent voters, as well as 76.7% of Republican voters, believe Trump’s political enemies are behind the FBI raid. It was taken between August 9 and August 10 and surveyed roughly 1,000 likely voters. 
Furthermore, that same poll shows that the majority of Democratic, Republican, and independent voters alike say that the FBI raid has increased their motivation to vote in the 2022 election. For the GOP, 83.3% of respondents said the feds&#8217; search gave them extra reason to get out and vote this November.
By now, Republicans of all stripes have condemned the raid in varying degrees, with some expressing caution until more details are revealed while others claim it is more evidence that &#8220;the swamp&#8221; is out to get Trump at all costs.
Here&#8217;s a round-up of some reactions and other relevant mid-term news.
(B)Lake Of Fire In Arizona
Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake has gone full scorched earth in her reaction to the raid. The America First candidate called for a complete overhaul of the federal government until we &#8220;can figure out what the hell is going on,&#8221; to borrow a phrase from Trump himself.
“This is one of the darkest days in American history: the day our Government, originally created by the people, turned against us,&#8221; Lake <a href="https://twitter.com/KariLake/status/1556808739281203200">tweeted</a>. &#8220;This illegitimate, corrupt Regime hates America and has weaponized the entirety of the Federal Government to take down President Donald Trump.”
Then, she added, “We must fire the Federal Government&#8221; and promised to fight &#8220;these Tyrants with every fiber of my being.&#8221;
The Trump-endorsed Lake secured Arizona&#8217;s GOP gubernatorial nomination and is running as an outsider. In a speech, she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-backed-kari-lake-wins-gop-primary-in-arizona-governors-race">claimed</a> triumph over the &#8220;McCain machine&#8221; — an apparent reference and shot at the late Senator John McCain.
Lake is facing off against Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D-AZ). The Cook Political Report <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/ratings/governor-race-ratings">rates</a> the Arizona gubernatorial race a toss-up.
GOP Senate candidate Blake Masters pointed out that his opponent, incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), hadn&#8217;t said one iota about the raid on Trump&#8217;s home.
&#8220;Why isn’t Mark Kelly saying anything??? Is he concerned about the politicization of the DOJ?&#8221; Masters <a href="https://twitter.com/bgmasters/status/1557168140550713344?s=20&amp;t=-VdVPOy6PRgmx3XFNAfbHA">tweeted</a>. &#8220;About Joe Biden persecuting his political opposition? As usual, silence from Mark Kelly, as he helps drag the country further in the wrong direction.&#8221;
Masters is currently behind in polling but gaining ground.
He has cut Kelly&#8217;s lead in half since July. The latest poll shows Masters trailing Kelly by five points, 49%-44%. The Republican firm Fabrizio, Lee &amp; Associates conducted the survey for America Next, a pro-Masters political action committee.
Granite State GOP Rock Solid In Condemning Raid 
In New Hampshire, at least three GOP candidates running for Senate against incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) have condemned Monday&#8217;s raid.
“Whenever Democrats get desperate &amp; low in the polls they decide to investigate President Trump,&#8221; Chuck Morse, the Republican president of the New Hampshire Senate, <a href="https://www.chuckmorsefornh.com/press/morse-statement-on-raid-targeting-president-trump">said</a>.
The Republican Senate candidate also harangued the Biden administration for having &#8220;enough on their plate&#8221; with open borders, increased drug trafficking, and rising crime rates without being used for &#8220;political prosecutions.&#8221; He went on to claim that such &#8220;over the top show of power stunts&#8221; are &#8220;designed in part to distract and intimidate&#8221; and &#8220;need to stop.&#8221;
Morse warned that the FBI raid was a &#8220;foreshadowing&#8221; of what the Democrats&#8217; proposed 87,000 new IRS agents could signal for New Hampshire families.
Many have been asking, &#8220;Where&#8217;s Hunter?&#8221; But Kevin Smith, the former director of a conservative advocacy group, is essentially asking, &#8216;When is the FBI going to raid Hunter?&#8217;
Smith, also seeking the Senate GOP nomination, <a href="https://twitter.com/TeamSmithforNH/status/1556809369978904576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">tweeted</a> that the raid was a &#8220;complete abuse of power&#8221; and accused the FBI of &#8220;burying evidence on Hunter Biden’s blatant corruption.&#8221;
Smith says the answer to the FBI&#8217;s probe is another investigation into &#8220;politicized government agencies.&#8221;
And then there&#8217;s Don Bolduc, a retired general considered the frontrunner in this so-far sleepy race.  He said he would be concerned if the raid had happened to any former president, including a Democrat, let alone The Don.
&#8220;I think I&#8217;m like millions of Americans right now, wondering what&#8217;s going on,&#8221; Bolduc <a href="https://www.iheart.com/podcast/139-new-hampshire-today-with-j-27984874/episode/8-9-don-bolduc-candidate-for-senate-100702331/">said</a> on the radio show New Hampshire Today. &#8220;If there&#8217;s documents there that needed to be seized, fine, but there should have been a different process for this. This is a former president.&#8221;
Bolduc&#8217;s last name is French and likely derived from the term &#8220;bolduc&#8221; meaning ribbon or thread. Depending on how Granite State voters take his comments, he could be first across the finish line ribbon, or barely hang on by a thread.
Deja Vu All Over Again In Michigan
Tudor Dixon, the Republican nominee for governor, responded to news of the FBI raid by accusing current Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) and President Biden of weaponizing law enforcement against their political opponents.
&#8220;Biden raids President Trump’s home. Whitmer illegally prosecuted her predecessor &amp; continues to go after him &amp; his staff,&#8221; Dixon tweeted, referring to the prosecution of former Michigan GOP Governor Rick Snyder over the Flint water crisis. &#8220;Shameful abuse of power, contemptuous of American principles,&#8221; she <a href="https://twitter.com/TudorDixon/status/1556836096440471552">added</a>.
If you haven&#8217;t caught on, a key strategy for GOP candidates is tying their Democratic candidates to the woefully unpopular Biden.

It would appear that Michigan&#8217;s Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel apparently likes the idea of using government power to go after political opponents.
Nessel is <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2022/08/07/michigan-attorney-general-special-prosecutor-trump-00050244">asking</a> for a special prosecutor to look into Republican AG candidate Matthew DePerno for allegations that he conspired with Trump supporters to gain access to voting machines on the heels of the 2020 election.
The Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Attorney General are <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/22128224-michigan-petition-for-appointment-of-special-prosecutor">investigating</a> &#8220;a conspiracy to unlawfully obtain access to voting machines used in the 2020 General Election&#8221; and have connected DePerno to the alleged plot.
Colorado&#8217;s O&#8217;Dea Says No Way To Trump 2024
“I hope he doesn’t run. I don’t want to see him as president again,” Republican Colorado Senate nominee Joe O’Dea, a first-time political candidate, <a href="https://www.cpr.org/2022/08/05/gop-senate-candidate-joe-odea-says-he-hopes-trump-doesnt-run-for-president/">told</a> radio host Ross Kaminsky on Friday.
“I think that seeing a Biden-Trump rematch again in 2024 would rip the country apart. I think a lot of people are ready to move our country forward,&#8221; he added. &#8220;So, I wouldn’t support him running again.”
During a debate earlier this year, however, O’Dea seemed to suggest he would support Trump if he were the party’s nominee. “If Donald Trump happens to be the Republican nominee, then I definitely won’t vote for Biden,” O’Dea said a week prior to the Republican primary for the Colorado Senate seat.
The O’Dea campaign <a href="https://twitter.com/KyleClark/status/1555645582512795649?s=20&amp;t=n-IJgsC82mPYsbaSkt0UXg">told</a> Colorado Public Radio that he won’t vote for Biden if Biden and Trump are the nominees in 2024. Another reporter <a href="https://twitter.com/KyleClark/status/1555645582512795649?s=20&amp;t=n-IJgsC82mPYsbaSkt0UXg">tweeted</a> that the “campaign confirms O’Dea would still vote for Trump in 2024 if Trump is the Republican nominee.”
“If former President Trump runs, he can expect Joe to campaign alongside [other possible GOP contenders] Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, or Tim Scott,” communication director Kyle Kohli told CPR.
Dick Cheney Doesn&#8217;t Say The Word Wyoming Once In TV Ad Slamming Trump 
Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) is airing a political ad featuring her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, claiming, &#8220;In our nation’s 236-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.&#8221;
We&#8217;ll let readers decide how they feel about the comments from the former VP who started two wars, oversaw torture, and emboldened the National Security Agency &#8230;  but couldn&#8217;t he have at least mentioned Wyoming in his TV ad? He didn&#8217;t say &#8220;Wyoming&#8221; once.

For her part, Liz Cheney is &#8220;down bad,&#8221; as the kids say these days. In case you haven&#8217;t heard, former Governor Sarah Palin is back in Alaska politics. The GOP congressional candidate knows a thing or two about Ol&#8217; Joe, having faced off against him on the 2008 presidential campaign trail when he was a senator from Delaware.
Palin said in a statement that she &#8220;was outraged but not surprised&#8221; by the raid on Trump&#8217;s residence, which she claimed was meant to stop the America First movement.
&#8220;President Trump is the target of yet another partisan witch hunt, but these third-world tactics will not deter him &#8211; or me &#8211; from fighting to Drain the Swamp and return control of government to the people where it belongs,&#8221; she <a href="https://twitter.com/SarahPalinUSA/status/1557057281451126784?s=20&amp;t=-h6JrGZTjMZ226HzRNqK8Q">added</a>.
Just hours before the raid, Trump joined Palin for a tele-rally, calling in on a phone to encourage GOP voters to choose her to replace the late GOP Rep. Don Young in the rank choice voting.
Nevada&#8217;s Gaming Industry Hedges Its Bets
A staple of the Nevada economy, its gaming industry, has <a href="https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/politics-and-government/nevada/nevadas-casino-industry-donates-to-both-gubernatorial-candidates-2618840/">collectively donated</a> hundreds of thousands of dollars to both Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak and his GOP challenger, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo. Sisolak has the edge so far, taking in $943,000 from the industry since last year. Lombardo is about $200,000 less, receiving a total of $730,000 from the gaming industry in the same time frame, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Oregon&#8217;s GOP gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan <a href="https://www.kgw.com/article/news/politics/christine-drazan-campaign-issue-roadmap-homelessness/283-b38562a2-0207-4ad2-93be-104ad0fbe735">announced</a> her “Roadmap for Oregon’s Future” on Monday, which promises to &#8220;declare a homelessness state of emergency.&#8221;
Her roadmap includes a plan to “[a]ddress the humanitarian crisis” of homelessness, “[r]estore safe communities” and “the rule of law,” and increase job production to help working families. She also detailed plans to boost education in the state, take care of the natural resources of Oregon in a sustainable way, and bring back trust in government.

Tuesday evening, incumbent six-term Rep. The Republican Senate candidates in New Hampshire are bashing their Democratic opponent, Sen. Maggie Hassan, for ignoring the effects of bad economic policy and inflation on everyday Americans.
The GOP primary still lacks a clear Republican frontrunner, and all candidates have one thing in common — they agree the economy, particularly inflation, is a top issue for Granite Staters this election cycle.
Don Bolduc, a retired Army general, said he has observed the tangible effects of inflation on families while on the campaign trail.
&#8220;It is inflation,&#8221; Bolduc told The Daily Wire last month when asked about the top issue facing New Hampshire voters this fall.
&#8220;People can&#8217;t afford a new car and can&#8217;t afford the gas. They can&#8217;t afford their groceries. They&#8217;re trading all of this, all of these decisions and putting that money towards keeping their vehicle going in order to be able to support their family and get to their jobs,&#8221; Bolduc said.
&#8220;The question that many of them have is, how high is this going to go, how much are they going to hurt us?&#8221; Bolduc continued. &#8220;President Biden&#8217;s policies on energy, his bad policies on energy, has driven this, and Senator Hassan has supported this 100%.&#8220;
Bolduc said Hassan is focused on other issues to &#8220;take the light off of all the really bad things she&#8217;s done to Granite Staters and Americans.&#8221;
&#8220;We&#8217;re in a terrible spot,&#8221; he said.
Bolduc is the most well-known of the Republican candidates after he ran for Senate in 2020.
Vikram Mansharamani, a finance expert and political outsider, said the &#8220;three key issues&#8221; on the minds of everyone in New Hampshire are inflation, inflation, and inflation.
&#8220;So I think it&#8217;s very simple. To go back to the old political line, it&#8217;s the economy, stupid,&#8221; Mansharamani told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;That&#8217;s the pain people are feeling every day when they go to the gas stations or to the grocery store,&#8221; he said.
Mansharamani added, &#8220;it&#8217;s not just inflation in the sense of, oh, all my bills are higher. It is targeted in very specific ways to energy, electricity, and food. &#8230; This is effectively a regressive tax. This is a tax on the poor and working class, as well as those who are on fixed incomes.&#8221;
Bruce Fenton, a financier who has made millions from Bitcoin, is the most libertarian candidate running against Hassan.
&#8220;The economic situation that we&#8217;re in is part of the symptom of the overall brokenness of the American economy,&#8221; Fenton told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;We need to follow the Constitution. We need to go back to the basic principles of liberty and freedom, or we&#8217;re going to lose our entire country as we know it,&#8221; Fenton said.
Kevin Smith, former director of a conservative advocacy group and town manager of Londonderry, New Hampshire, agreed with some of his rivals that the economic issues are the top concern.
&#8220;It&#8217;s everything from the prices at the gas pump, home heating oil, which is a big deal in New Hampshire,&#8221; Smith told The Daily Wire. &#8220;We&#8217;re very much a small business state, and so everyone&#8217;s feeling the pinch right now.&#8221;
&#8220;She&#8217;s got her commercials running about how she&#8217;s taking on big oil and Big Pharma. But really, there&#8217;s been nothing with regard to home heating oil assistance,&#8221; Smith said of Hassan. &#8220;She really hasn&#8217;t said a word about it.&#8221;
&#8220;I have no doubt that when they go to the ballot box in November, they&#8217;re going to be voting with their wallets,&#8221; Smith said of his fellow Granite Staters.
Smith also said he would support legislation to make the U.S. energy independent and make the Trump tax cuts permanent.
Chuck Morse, the Republican president of the New Hampshire Senate, said he &#8220;strongly believes&#8221; the top issue is inflation and the economy.
&#8220;It&#8217;s affecting everyone. I mean &#8230; If I go to a gas station, I hear about it every time I pull in. They obviously want me to do something about it as state senator. But it&#8217;s an issue right now, whether it&#8217;s gas or food or anything else. It&#8217;s all anybody talks about,&#8221; Morse told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;What&#8217;s made her vulnerable is inflation and the economy,&#8221; Morse said of Hassan. &#8220;By far, there is no way she can run away from that. It&#8217;s pretty obvious that people can&#8217;t afford to pay $5 for gas and they&#8217;re certainly nervous about what they&#8217;re going to be paying for heating oil in New Hampshire.&#8221;
Morse said the country needs to &#8220;stop the spending&#8221; and start &#8220;living within our means&#8221; and go back to being energy independent.

New Hampshire&#8217;s Senate candidates have released their fundraising totals for the second quarter of the year.
The scattered Republican field posted lackluster numbers compared to the incumbent Democrat, Sen. Maggie Hassan.
Hassan <a href="https://www.axios.com/2022/07/16/senate-gop-fundraising-flop">raised</a> $5.07 million in the second quarter of this year. Her campaign says she has about $7 million in the bank, <a href="https://maggiehassan.com/news/in-the-news/icymi-senator-hassan-once-again-outraises-all-the-nh-republican-senate-candidates-combined/">boasting</a> about its haul in a statement.
&#8220;It is the second quarter in a row that Sen. Hassan has outraised the entire Republican field combined — ensuring that Maggie for NH has the resources to continue to talk to Granite Staters in every community about Senator Hassan’s record of fighting for New Hampshire,&#8221; Hassan&#8217;s team wrote.
Hassan&#8217;s seat has been <a href="https://www.axios.com/2022/07/19/new-hampshire-maggie-hassan-senate-republicans">considered</a> one of the most vulnerable Senate seats this election cycle. However, as New Hampshire&#8217;s Sep. 13 primary draws closer, the Republican field is still scattered, with five major GOP candidates and no clear frontrunner.
Chuck Morse, the Republican president of the New Hampshire Senate, raised $538,000 in the second quarter. Of that total, Morse contributed $100,000 personally to his campaign, <a href="https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00800847/1614812/?mc_cid=f4018beabc&amp;mc_eid=15ab2c0044">according</a> to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
In the first quarter, Morse reported he raised $750,000. He currently has about $975,000 cash on hand.
&#8220;Since launching my campaign on Jan. 29 in a snowstorm, I’ve been humbled by the outpouring of support from across New Hampshire in my race for United States Senate,&#8221; Morse <a href="https://www.chuckmorsefornh.com/press/morse-raises-1-3-million-directly-into-campaign-has-1-million-cash-on-hand-at-end-of-quarter-2">said</a> in a statement.
Kevin Smith, former director of a conservative advocacy group and town manager of Londonderry, New Hampshire, raised nearly $318,000 in quarter two, according to his FEC filing. Smith currently has about $349,000 cash on hand.
“It’s clear that Kevin Smith has the momentum in this race,” <a href="https://www.wmur.com/article/kevin-smith-new-hampshire-q2-2022-fundraising/40643549">said</a> Smith&#8217;s campaign manager Seb Rougemont, per Manchester news outlet WMUR. “As we put our superior grassroots team to work in the weeks ahead, Granite State Republicans will continue to join our insurgent campaign to Save America from the destructive, socialist agenda of Joe Biden and Maggie Hassan.”
Don Bolduc, a retired Army general, raised about $84,000 this quarter, according to his FEC <a href="https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00711010/1612455//?mc_cid=f4018beabc&amp;mc_eid=15ab2c0044">filing</a>. Bolduc has about $65,000 cash on hand.
Bolduc is running &#8220;a true grassroots campaign focused on town hall meetings and retail gatherings,” <a href="https://www.wmur.com/article/don-bolduc-fundraising-q2-2022/40560125">said</a> Bolduc campaign spokesperson Jimmy Thompson.
He added that Bolduc has the &#8220;strongest conservative grassroots support&#8221; and &#8220;remains well positioned to win September’s primary.&#8221;
&#8220;President Biden’s 36% approval rating in New Hampshire is creating a political undertow for Senator Hassan that no amount of money can overcome,&#8221; the Bolduc campaign representative said.
Meanwhile, two other GOP candidates with lower profiles actually raised more than their better-known primary contenders.
Bruce Fenton, a financier who has made millions from Bitcoin, <a href="https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00816967/1612882/?mc_cid=f4018beabc&amp;mc_eid=15ab2c0044">reported</a> raising $1.6 million in the second quarter, but only $21,000 of that sum came from donors, the rest coming out of Fenton&#8217;s own pocket.
Vikram Mansharamani, a finance expert and political outsider, <a href="https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00813295/1615724/">reported</a> the second highest quarter two haul at $830,000. Mansharamani personally contributed about $250,000 of that total.
“Since I announced that I was running at the end of April, I have been humbled by the support I am receiving. Granite Staters know we need to send a businessman to Washington, D.C., to clean up this mess,” Mansharamani <a href="https://www.wmur.com/article/vikram-mansharamani-q2-2022-fundraising/40543039">said</a>. “In just over two months, we have raised a remarkable amount of money. Our campaign is picking up momentum and the pace is accelerating.”
Hassan, 64, is finishing out her first term as senator. The initial GOP favorite to beat Hassan was New Hampshire&#8217;s current Gov. Chris Sununu, but he <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/new-hampshire-gov-chris-sununu-says-he-will-not-run-n1283547">announced</a> in November that he would not be running.

New Hampshire GOP Senate Candidates Struggle In Q2 Fundraising Against Maggie Hassan

A second former staffer to Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) was sentenced for her role in helping another former aide obtain and post personal information for multiple Republican senators in order to intimidate them over their support for then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/second-democratic-aide-sentenced-in-kavanaugh-doxxing-case">reported</a> that Samantha Deforest Davis, 24, “was sentenced to two years of supervised probation with 200 hours of community service, with a suspended sentence of 180 days in prison.”  Davis was also told to “stay away from [Hassan&#8217;s] office to include current and former staff, and to not use Tor or anonymized computer applications,&#8221; a Department of Justice statement said.
Fox reported that Davis was alleged to have helped Jackson Cosko, 27, who illegally obtained the senator’s personal information because he was angry over their support for Kavanaugh after the nominee was accused of decades-old sexual assaults. The assaults were never proven or corroborated, and the majority of witnesses said they don’t remember Kavanaugh behaving the way he has been accused.
Cosko, according to prosecutors, told Davis to “wipe down” the computers he used in Hassan’s office to obtain the information. Davis, a staff assistant at the time, was unable to comply because another staffer was in the office the morning she was supposed to wipe the computers. Davis also allowed Cosko to use her keys to get into the office, knowing “that Cosko needed the keys to unlawfully enter the senator’s office to access Senate computers&#8221; the DOJ’s statement said.
“Davis pleaded guilty to the federal charge of aiding and abetting computer fraud, and to the District of Columbia charge of attempted tampering with evidence,” Fox reported.
Cosko had previously worked as a computer systems administrator for Hassan, but was fired in May 2018 for breaking office procedures. Court records reviewed by Fox News indicate that Cosko “repeatedly burglarized the office,” the outlet reported. He also “copied gigabytes worth of data, including dozens of user names and passwords belonging to Senate employees and ‘contact information for numerous sitting U.S. senators,’” Fox reported.
At the time of the doxing, Cosko was working for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX). He was caught when another staffer recognized him and reported him. Cosko later sent that staffer an email threatening to “leak it all” if the staffer snitched.
“Emails signal conversations gmails. Senators children’s health information and socials,” Cosko wrote to the staffer.
In April, Cosko <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sheila-jackson-lee-staffer-who-doxxed-republicans-ashe-schow">pleaded guilty</a> to two counts of making public restricted personal information, and one count each of computer fraud, witness tampering and obstruction of justice,” Fox reported. In June, Cosko was sentenced to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ex-dem-staffer-who-doxed-republicans-during-ashe-schow">four years in prison</a> for his crimes. During his court proceedings, Cosko explained that he had been able to spy on senate offices thanks to his keylogger devices. He also wrote a “to do list” of sorts to himself relating to the crime. One of those notes read:

Cosko obtained his congressional jobs thanks to his father’s connections. His father is the CEO of a major construction company in California and has ties to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

The former Sheila Jackson Lee staffer who posted the private information of Republican senators during the final hearing for then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has been sentenced to four years in prison for his crime.
Jackson Cosko was described by prosecutors as having &#8220;self-righteous entitlement&#8221; and believing &#8220;that he could violate the sanctity of the United State Senate at will and threaten individual Senators as he pleased,&#8221; The Daily Caller&#8217;s Luke Rosniak <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2019/06/19/dem-staffer-kavanaugh-doxx-prison/">reported</a>. Rosniak further wrote prosecutors sought to make an example of Cosko because his crime allegedly led to other incidents of attacks on political opposition.
Cosko <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/45149/remember-senate-aide-who-doxxed-republicans-during-ashe-schow">is the son</a> of the CEO of a major construction company who has ties to House Speaker Nance Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). Cosko previously worked as a staffer in Sen. Maggie Hassan&#8217;s (D-NH) office, but had since moved on to working for Lee. While senators questioned Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused the now-Associate Justice of groping her while they were both in high school some 30 years ago, Cosko snuck into his former boss&#8217; office to use a computer to publish the private information of some of the Republican senators who supported Kavanaugh.
Another staffer in Hassan&#8217;s office recognized Cosko and reported him, so he sent the staffer an email threatening to &#8220;leak it all&#8221; if the staffer told anyone what he had done.

Cosko <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/45640/sheila-jackson-lee-staffer-who-doxxed-republicans-ashe-schow">pleaded guilty in April</a> &#8220;to crimes related to an unparalleled effort to ransack a Senate office, extorting a Democratic senator, illegally harming Republicans for their political views, and blackmailing a witness,&#8221; Rosniak reported.
Prosecutors, according to Rosniak, asked for a five-year prison sentence.
&#8220;The government believes that a significant sentence would help to make clear that difference of political opinion do not entitle people to engage in politically motivated, criminal attacks threatening elected officials with whom he disagrees, and would thereby encourage respect for the law, and deter future criminal conduct,&#8221; they wrote.
Rosniak reported that new details about Cosko&#8217;s crimes were released in a sentencing memo, including the fact that the senate learned later &#8212; because Cosko told them &#8212; that the offices were being spied on due to his keylogger devices. Cosko also made handwritten notes to himself about the crime, according to evidence filed in court. One notepad said:

Prosecutors wrote that Cosko laughed about his crimes and said he planned to use the data he stole from the senate offices &#8220;to punish people who disagreed with his politics.&#8221;
&#8220;The defendant operated under the belief that he was entitled to inflict emotional distress upon United States Senators and their families, simply because they disagreed with the defendant and had different political views,&#8221; prosecutors wrote in their sentencing memo. &#8220;The government believes that there appears to have been an increase in similar criminal harassment, particularly through social media channels, by people across the political spectrum.&#8221;
On Wednesday, a second former Hassan staffer was charged for acting as Cosko&#8217;s accomplice. Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2019/06/19/maggie-hassan-staff-doxing-case-1370529">reported</a> that Samantha Deforest Davis, a former staff assistant for Hassan who left in December, was expected to plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges for helping Cosko. Davis allegedly tampered with evidence and aided and abetted computer fraud by allowing Cosko to use her keys to repeatedly return to Hassan&#8217;s office after he was let go.
