Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal returned to his alma mater over the weekend, delivering a colorful, energetic commencement address to Louisiana State University’s graduating class of 2026.
Speaking from the perspective of an elder statesman offering sage advice to the next generation, O’Neal — who dominated the collegiate ranks at LSU before embarking on one of the most physically imposing careers in NBA history — implored the &#8220;youngsters&#8221; to embrace resilience and integrity as they step into the world.
O&#8217;Neal, who famously earned his bachelor&#8217;s degree from LSU in 2000 after leaving early for the NBA, opened with his trademark humor, saying:

I&#8217;m not going to be long because I know you guys are hungry, because I&#8217;m hungry as hell. I was tricked. I was bamboozled this morning. They told me to arrive at 7:30. And three hours later, I received something that had nothing in it. Last time I sat this long, I was sitting on the toilet after I had some bad chimichanga from TJ Ribs.

Turning serious, he expressed immense pride in the graduates and laid out five core pillars for their future success: never stop learning, use failure as motivation, prioritize character over resumes, stay curious in a &#8220;weird world,&#8221; and celebrate milestones while continuously striving ahead.
&#8220;There&#8217;s a small percentage of people that accomplish things on the first try,&#8221; he declared. &#8220;Most of us regular people have to go again, again, again, and again. So again, before you succeed, you must first learn to fail. &#8230; Your character will take you further than your resume. Continue to be kind; continue to be humble. Continue to help those in need.&#8221;
In a classic lighter moment, he also urged graduates to buy his &#8220;Shaq-A-Licious&#8221; gummies at 7-Eleven.
The massive center’s perspective is backed by a resume legendary in American sports. Long before he was a four-time NBA champion, O&#8217;Neal entirely transformed the LSU basketball program under coach Dale Brown from 1989 to 1992. Over 90 collegiate games, the powerhouse center averaged an astonishing 21.6 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 4.6 blocks per game, shooting 61% from the field. A two-time consensus First-Team All-American and two-time SEC Player of the Year, O&#8217;Neal set an NCAA Tournament record by blocking 11 shots in a single game against BYU in 1992.
After the Orlando Magic selected him as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft, Shaq won Rookie of the Year and famously shattered multiple backboard supports. O&#8217;Neal soon ascended to absolute league dominance.
He signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1996 and eventually formed a legendary dynasty with Kobe Bryant and coach Phil Jackson. O&#8217;Neal led the Lakers to a historic &#8220;three-peat&#8221; of NBA championships from 2000 to 2002, capturing Finals MVP honors in all three instances. His 1999–2000 campaign stands as one of the greatest individual seasons in sports history, missing out on a unanimous regular-season MVP by just a single vote.
O&#8217;Neal later secured a fourth championship ring with Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat in 2006 before concluding his 19-year journey with veteran stints in Phoenix, Cleveland, and Boston. He retired in 2011 with 28,596 points and 13,099 rebounds, earning a spot on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.
Concluding his commencement address in Baton Rouge, the legendary big man led the arena in a roaring chant of &#8220;We did it,&#8221; reminding the graduates of their shared achievement. &#8220;I do not want you going home and saying I graduated with Shaq,&#8221; O’Neal told the crowd. &#8220;I want you to say Shaq graduated with me.&#8221;

The trend of patriotic students confronting the activists has burgeoned at universities in Southern states.
On Thursday, a group of students at the University of Mississippi belted out “The Star-Spangled Banner,” drowning out the chanting and shouting of pro-Hamas protesters on their campus.
In a video posted to X on Tuesday, a number of students could be heard singing the national anthem at the top of their lungs while the shouts of nearby protesters — several of whom carried large Palestinian flags — were completely overpowered.

On North Carolina’s Chapel Hill campus, a group of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gofundme-set-up-to-fund-rager-for-frat-boys-who-defended-american-flag-on-unc-campus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fraternity boys</a> fought back when anti-Israel protesters attempted to replace an American flag with a Palestinian flag. They stepped in and kept the American flag from touching the ground, even as the protesters surrounded them and hurled insults, water, and other objects their way.
A GoFundMe was set up to fund a “<a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/pi-kappa-phi-men-defended-their-flag-throw-em-a-rager?utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet-first-launch&amp;utm_medium=copy_link&amp;utm_source=customer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rager</a>” for the UNC fraternity brothers who helped defend the American flag on the University of North Carolina’s Chapel Hill campus.
Pi Kappa Phi member Guillermo Estrada explained, “My fraternity brother and others ran over to hold it up, in order for it not to touch the ground. People began throwing water bottles at us, rocks, sticks, calling us profane names. We stood for an hour defending the flag so many fight to protect.”

LSU faced intense criticism for not being on the court when the national anthem was played shortly before their game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa won 94-87.
“Honestly, I don’t even know when the anthem was played,” <a href="https://www.pennlive.com/sports/2024/04/lsu-basketball-teams-national-anthem-absence-comes-under-fire-on-social-media.html">said</a> LSU coach Kim Mulkey. “We kind of (have) a routine where we’re on the floor and then they come off at the 12-minute mark. I don’t know … we come in and we do our pregame stuff. I’m sorry … Listen, that’s nothing intentionally done.”

The Republican governor responded to the backlash that the team faced by saying that officials need to enact a policy requiring athletes to show up for face serious consequences.
&#8220;My mother coached women’s high school basketball during the height of desegregation, no one has a greater respect for the sport and for Coach Mulkey,&#8221; he said. &#8220;However, above respect for that game is a deeper respect for those that serve to protect us and unite us under one flag! It is time that all college boards, including Regent, put a policy in place that student athletes be present for the national anthem or risk their athletic scholarship! Mulkey has recently been in the news after The Washington Post ran a hit <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/03/30/kim-mulkey-lsu-griner-reese/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">piece</a> on her that accused her of exploding at officials, treating reporters poorly, holding grudges, and clashing with players.
She reportedly has had an intense feud with Brittney Griner and the report claimed that she was harsh toward gay players — an accusation that she and her legal team have strongly pushed back against, including providing an affidavit that undercut one of the claims made against her.

Jake Crain: Brian Kelly would be clinically insane to leave LSU for Michigan. Why? Not because Michigan isn&#8217;t a fantastic job or that there&#8217;s anything wrong with Ann Arbor, but because he&#8217;s already at a place where, believe it or not (at least in my opinion), it&#8217;s easier to establish dominance than at Michigan.
Brian Kelly left Notre Dame, which is an established brand in college football, to go down to Baton Rouge. He saw what Bama looked like in the tunnel before they got run over in the National Championship when he was the head coach of the Fighting Irish. He wanted to be able to recruit and sign the best of the best, a true even playing field. Louisiana is a state filled with talent every year to the brim from the top to the bottom, from the east to the west. And LSU is the only power in that state. There is no Sparty and nobody’s spurning LSU to go to Louisiana Tech. (Sorry guys.) But Kelly has already found success there, and he&#8217;s building a monster in a place where the biggest monsters roam. He’s compiled an elite staff around him, and he just had the Heisman winner. Why would you leave Baton Rouge where you have all of this momentum to go follow the greatest season ever in Michigan history? There&#8217;s nowhere to go but down.
Michigan&#8217;s going to remain relevant regardless of what Harbaugh does, but the best chance to win bigger for longer is at LSU. Some will say the SEC is the toughest conference in the country. That is true, but the Big Ten just added Oregon, Washington, USC, and UCLA. It&#8217;s not getting any easier, and there’s no division, which will create more division. Ryan Day is trying to put the new Justice League together at Ohio State through the transfer portal, and Brian Kelly has already shown that he can succeed in the SEC. He won the West in year one and the emperor Nick Saban just left Tuscaloosa. 
The fact of the matter is you can&#8217;t make work-place decisions based purely on emotion and fandom. And though Kelly&#8217;s accent may be fake, his chance to dominate is not. While some may believe the smoke if Harbaugh does leave to go to the Chargers or the Falcons, it smells like a Jimmy Sexton special to me, which is always a good play.
Harbaugh hasn&#8217;t gone anywhere yet, but we keep hearing that for Brian Kelly, it&#8217;s a dream job. Michigan is an incredible place. They just won the National Championship. Nobody&#8217;s saying that Michigan is a bad job. But when LSU gets hot, they can get hotter than just about anyone. For Brian Kelly, he’s already there. He’s already established. He’s gotten the hard part out of the way. He won early, he won the West. Yes, he lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship game, but he beat Alabama’s Nick Saban. Then in year two, his defense got run through like a finish line, but he had the Heisman winner. He has an elite staff, he’s recruited really well, and it seems like a pretty good fit.

David Cone: Brian Kelly is not leaving LSU. No way. I agree that this feels like a Jimmy Sexton special to try and get a bigger contract or a new extension. It’s not because I view LSU as that much better of a job than Michigan. I see them both as the top six or seven jobs in the country.
I do find a couple of things interesting though. First, Brian Kelly is the winningest coach in Notre Dame history. He left and gave that up to go to LSU for a lot of the reasons we always talk about; you can put a fence around that state and the high school recruiting is better there in that state. Also, from a historical and traditional perspective, Notre Dame and Michigan are very similar. So I think it&#8217;s interesting Brian Kelly had to watch Michigan go undefeated and win the National Championship. That is what Jim Harbaugh was able to do at a very similar Midwestern school that Kelly was not able to accomplish while he was at Notre Dame. Then, two of the last three coaches at LSU have been rumored to be leaving LSU. The Les Miles thing was a caveat, and I think it&#8217;s a completely different situation.
Ultimately, we still don&#8217;t even know if Jim Harbaugh is going to leave. Harbaugh may remain at Michigan — even though the news could break any minute that he&#8217;s going to be the next coach of the Chargers. So we&#8217;ll have to see. But from my perspective, Kelly has gotten the hard part out of the way. He already built the foundation at his new place, he took the risk which paid off early, he won the SEC West, and he just landed the number one quarterback in the 2025 class. I don&#8217;t see Brian Kelly going anywhere.

Louisiana State University head <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/college-football/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">football</a> coach Brian Kelly fielded jabs from a reporter after his debut game resulted in a loss to the Florida State Seminoles.
Kelly threw the first punch, however, ribbing The Advocate&#8217;s LSU football and baseball beat reporter Leah Vann for arriving late to his weekly press conference on Tuesday.
After he opened the press conference with his own comments, Kelly turned to the reporters to take questions and immediately rebuked Vann for her late arrival, suggesting that she ought to pay a $10 fine.

Longtime Democratic Party strategist and top Bill Clinton ally James Carville unloaded on the Democratic Party during an interview published on Friday, saying that when it comes to the party&#8217;s ideas, the American people &#8220;don&#8217;t want to hear this s**t&#8221; and that Democrats are losing their minds over the upcoming election.
When asked by left-wing <a href="https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2020/2/7/21123518/trump-2020-election-democratic-party-james-carville">Vox</a> why he was &#8220;scared to death&#8221; of the upcoming election, Carville responded, &#8220;Look, the turnout in the Iowa caucus was below what we expected, what we wanted. Trump’s approval rating is probably as high as it’s been. This is very bad. And now it appears the party can’t even count votes. What the hell am I supposed to think?&#8221;
&#8220;I’ll just say it this way: The fate of the world depends on the Democrats getting their s**t together and winning in November,&#8221; Carville continued. &#8220;We have to beat Trump. And so far, I don’t like what I see. And a lot of people I talk to feel the same way.&#8221;
Carville said he does not know where the party went wrong, considering that it did well in House races in 2018: &#8220;Now it’s like we’re losing our damn minds.&#8221;
It&#8217;s fair to note that after the 2018 races, radical far-left Democrats like socialist Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), and Rashida Tlaib (MI) have driven the party increasingly to the far-left.
&#8220;We have candidates on the debate stage talking about open borders and decriminalizing illegal immigration,&#8221; Carville said. &#8220;They’re talking about doing away with nuclear energy and fracking. You’ve got Bernie Sanders talking about letting criminals and terrorists vote from jail cells. It doesn’t matter what you think about any of that, or if there are good arguments — talking about that is not how you win a national election.&#8221;
Carville said that if Sanders gets elected, &#8220;there’s no chance in hell we’ll ever win the Senate with Sanders at the top of the party defining it for the public.&#8221;
Carville then continued to repeat the lie that &#8220;18% of the country elects more than half of our senators,&#8221; a false statement that he also made on <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/the-beat-with-ari/watch/-wake-up-dem-vet-calls-for-party-to-be-more-relevant-diverse-after-iowa-chaos-78129221946">MSNBC</a>.
Newsweek <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/senators-who-voted-convict-trump-represent-18-million-more-americans-those-who-voted-acquit-1485972">reported</a> that the Republican-controlled Senate seats represent 44% of the U.S. population, not 18% — although the actual number may be as high as 47.19%.
When asked if the party has gone too far left, Carville responded, &#8220;They’ve tacked off the damn radar screen. And look, I don’t consider myself a moderate or a centrist. I’m a liberal. &#8230; Here’s another stupid thing: Democrats talking about free college tuition or debt forgiveness. I’m not here to debate the idea. What I can tell you is that people all over this country worked their way through school, sent their kids to school, paid off student loans. They don’t want to hear this s**t. And you saw Warren confronted by an angry voter over this. It’s just not a winning message.&#8221;
Carville then claimed, without evidence, that Trump was a &#8220;career criminal who’s stealing everything that isn’t nailed down out of the White House.&#8221;
Carville then went off on the leftist mainstream media over a New York Times editorial board member&#8217;s mocking comments about Louisiana State University (LSU) canceling classes for the NCAA football national championship game, saying: &#8220;You know how f***ing patronizing that is to people in the South or in the middle of the country? First, LSU has an unusually high graduation rate, but that’s not the point. It’s the g*****n smugness. This is from a guy who lives in New York and serves on the Times editorial board and there’s not a single person he knows that doesn’t pat him on the back for that kind of tweet. He’s so fucking smart. &#8230; The Democratic Party has to drive a narrative that doesn’t give off vapors that we’re smarter than everyone or culturally arrogant.&#8221;

An arrest warrant was issued for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Thursday for apparently slapping the back side of a security officer during a post-game celebration in the Louisiana State University (LSU) locker room earlier in the week.
Following the Clemson University/LSU NCAA football national championship game on Monday, Beckham hit the locker room to celebrate. The receiver is captured own video slapping the buttocks of a security guard officer during the rowdy partying.
The warrant was issued for simple battery by the New Orleans Police Department after the security officer issued a complaint.

According to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28496532/new-orleans-police-issue-arrest-warrant-browns-odell-beckham-jr">ESPN</a>, the public affairs office for the New Orleans Police Department &#8220;confirmed that the security guard filed the complaint.&#8221;
&#8220;Louisiana statute defines simple battery as battery committed without the consent of the victim. Punishment in Louisiana can include a fine of no more than $1,000 and imprisonment for no more than six months, or both,&#8221; the sports outlet noted.
&#8220;We are aware of the incident and have been in touch with Odell and his representatives on the matter,&#8221; the Cleveland Browns said in a statement Thursday. &#8220;They are cooperating with the proper authorities to appropriately address the situation.&#8221;
Beckham caught heat earlier in the week for video footage showing the NFL star handing out cash to players during the locker room celebration.
&#8220;We are aware of the situation regarding Odell Beckham Jr. interacting with LSU student-athletes and others unaffiliated with the team following the championship game Monday night,&#8221; LSU said in a statement, ESPN reported. &#8220;Initial information suggested bills that were exchanged were novelty bills. Information and footage reviewed since shows apparent cash may have also been given to LSU student-athletes.&#8221;
&#8220;We were in contact with the NCAA and the SEC immediately upon learning of this situation in which some of our student-athletes may have been placed in a compromising position. We are working with our student-athletes, the NCAA and the SEC in order to rectify the situation,&#8221; the university continued.

“A smoke-filled LSU locker room got a surprise warning early Tuesday morning,” <a href="https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2020/01/cop-threatens-arrest-for-lsu-players-smoking-cigars-in-championship-locker-room.html?utm_campaign=aldotcom_sf&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">AL.com</a> reported. “A police officer threw water on the party when telling the national champions they could not smoke the cigars that burned for easily 15 minutes after beating Clemson. In fact, the officer announced to the players any smoking cigars in the locker room would be subject to arrest.”
“Several players holding stogies laughed at the warning like it was a joke but the cop wasn’t smiling,” the outlet added.

A week after making headlines for the explosive crowd response to his appearance at Game 5 of the World Series in Nationals Park, Sports Illustrated&#8217;s <a href="https://www.si.com/college/alabama/bamacentral/alabama-football-lsu-president-trump">BamaCentral</a> is reporting that President Trump will be attending the most anticipated game of the college football season: No. 1 LSU versus No. 2 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday.
The game, which starts at 3:30 p.m. Eastern and features the undefeated LSU Tigers (8-0) playing against their biggest rival, the undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0), will now draw even more attention, if Sports Illustrated&#8217;s sources are correct.
&#8220;BamaCentral has learned that the University of Alabama is making preparations for President Donald Trump to attend the LSU game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday,&#8221; the outlet reported Monday. &#8220;Alabama officials could not be reached to confirm or deny, but sources have confirmed his expected visit.&#8221;
LSU edged out Alabama in the most recent <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings">AP poll</a> (1479-1472), though Alabama returned the favor in the <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings">Coaches Poll</a> (1591-1531). ESPN&#8217;s <a href="http://www.espn.com/college-football/statistics/teamratings">Football Power Index</a> lists Alabama at 2nd and LSU at 4th overall, giving Alabama a 31.6% chance of winning out the rest of the way and LSU an 11.7% chance. The index gives Alabama a 50% chance of winning the conference and LSU a 16.4% chance, in large part because of the daunting task of taking out Alabama. The line for the game currently gives Alabama a -6.5 point advantage.

&#8220;The high-profile game was already attracting a lot of attention, including ESPN&#8217;s pregame show &#8216;College Gameday,'&#8221; BamaCentral reports, noting that due to security concerns, the stage for the show had to be moved from the Walk of Champions outside the stadium to the Quad. SEC Nation and the Marty &amp; McGee show will also be filming on location on the campus.
This isn&#8217;t the first college football game starring Alabama that Trump has attended. He also made it to the National Championship game in 2017, when Alabama managed to come back in the second half to beat another SEC team, the Georgia Bulldogs.
Though Trump left at halftime when Alabama was still trailing 13-0, the president made sure to celebrate their 17th championship (their 5th under Nick Saban) with them at the White House, calling it &#8220;a win for the ages.&#8221;

Hurricane Harvey has caused much devastation along the Texas coast; many cities have been hit hard by constant rain and flooding. According to some experts, there is another danger that is not as obvious, but could have dire consequences. Tiny fire ants are appearing in rivers and flooded areas. They are venomous and their bites can cause extreme pain and discomfort. 
During the storm, the ants found a creative way to avoid drowning; the colony interlocked their legs to create floating ant mounds. As a native Texan, I have personally faced the wrath of these vicious ants.
University of Texas at Austin curator of entomology Alex Wild <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/08/fire-ants-flooding-hurricane-harvey/538365/">told</a> The Atlantic, &#8220;They actually love floods,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;It&#8217;s how they get around.&#8221;

Their mounds appear almost immediately following a heavy rainstorm and are almost impossible to remove. If a person pours insecticide directly on them, they become suspicious and will not take it to their queen. If you place it around their colony, they may not pick it up. 
Louisiana State University entomologist Linda Bui explained that the fire ants increase in their aggression toward humans. Their particular bites are stronger because they have 165% more venom than a typical ant. 
During Hurricane Katrina, Bui examined several victims who complained about rashes from wading through the waters of the flooding that followed the storm. 
Bui told reporters, &#8220;They were like something none of the medical professionals had ever seen.&#8221; She adds, &#8220;I was like, &#8216;Those are literally fire ant stings on top of fire ant stings.&#8217;&#8221;
Bui gave constructive advice on how to disperse the floating fire ants: dish soap. &#8220;Dawn is a not a registered insecticide,&#8221; she explains. &#8220;but it will break up the surface tension and they will sink.&#8221;

Last week, I wrote an <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/13142/brave-lsu-student-stood-leftists-public-what-elliott-hamilton">article</a> exposing how Louisiana State University&#8217;s student newspaper The Daily Reveille censored one of their sports writers for daring to speak out against the &#8220;Muslim ban&#8221; lie in a public forum. The article exposed five student employees of LSU&#8217;s Office of Student Media, including three non-opinion writers for The Daily Reveille, who violated a supposed &#8220;decades-long&#8221; policy of writers not commenting on political matters.
The student at the center of the controversy, Chris Caldarera, met with the management of the newspaper to discuss The Daily Wire&#8216;s article and what it said about the newspaper.
&#8220;The meeting went well, and they aren&#8217;t firing me,&#8221; Caldarera told The Daily Wire via direct message on Twitter. &#8220;They came off as very contrite, and told me that, while their intention wasn&#8217;t to purposely silence a conservative opinion, they saw the evidence that suggested otherwise. They understand that having a &#8216;decades old&#8217; unwritten policy is no good, and they want to work with management and the staff to get something in writing and universally enforce the policy.&#8221;
Caldarera stated that while he did not intend to harm the newspaper&#8217;s credibility, he did want to expose the hypocrisy of their editorial staff and upper management&#8217;s handling of the situation toward him while remaining silent when its liberal writers openly publicized their politics.
This is a tremendous victory not only for conservatives on college campuses, but it is a much larger victory for free speech. In admitting their own biases, The Daily Reveille will be held accountable when it fails to hold its writers equally accountable regardless of their political views. This also represents a massive defeat for campus leftism and its quest to silence dissenting voices. Even though leftists viciously booed Caldarera at their moronic rally, they amplified his voice through their collective intolerance. Better yet, their allies within the student newspaper can no longer keep his voice or anyone else&#8217;s voice silent anymore.
The tide is turning on college campuses. Day by day, these small victories against the left will help us win the battle of ideas and the war against the values that the United States was founded upon.

VICTORY: Daily Wire Forces Student Newspaper To Address Their Own Biases

On Wednesday, a bunch of student activists at Louisiana State University walked out of class at 11 a.m. to protest President Trump&#8217;s executive order on immigrants and refugees. They walked to the quad and formed a circle in solidarity with those they say were affected by a &#8220;Muslim ban.&#8221;
A conservative student named Chris Caldarera stood in the middle of the circle and corrected the protestors, drawing on arguments from Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro&#8217;s <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/12895/8-things-you-need-know-about-trumps-executive-ben-shapiro">article</a> to explain that the executive order was not a Muslim ban, but rather a ban on individuals coming from seven countries. He was subsequently booed by the crowd of virtue-signaling leftists and was told to get out of the circle.

After his public stance, Caldarera faced scrutiny from his peers. He works as a sports columnist for the student newspaper The Daily Reveille, which he says has a liberal bend. Last night, he informed The Daily Wire that the paper&#8217;s upper management said that members of the sports staff are no longer allowed to take a political stance in public or on social media because they want them to be unbiased.
For expressing his right to free speech at a public university, his political opinions have been censored by the student newspaper he works for.
&#8220;I also find it odd that liberal members of the staff could tweet their political opinions ad nauseam until a staffer such as myself took a conservative lean in public,&#8221; Caldarera said in an email. &#8220;I guess that&#8217;s how it goes now.&#8221;

They also challenged Caldarera&#8217;s assertion that the newspaper&#8217;s staff seemed apathetic when their liberal staff members shared their beliefs. While it is not unheard of that some newspapers strongly recommend their employees to seem as unbiased as possible, The Daily Reveille fails to enforce that policy for its liberal writers.

If student journalists at Louisiana State University are expected not to publicize their political opinions, then the Office of Student Media fails to enforce such a policy. Furthermore, it calls the question on why the upper management of The Daily Reveille only decided to invoke it the day after Chris Caldarera had the audacity to tell hundreds of campus activists that Trump&#8217;s executive order was not a &#8220;Muslim ban.&#8221;
This situation demonstrates either the incompetence of the newspaper&#8217;s staff to maintain &#8220;decades-long&#8221; policy or a concerted effort to punish a student for daring to combat a sensitive but categorically false narrative shared by a plurality of the student body. Neither of these scenarios puts The Daily Reveille in a positive light.
Through its actions toward Caldarera, the newspaper&#8217;s upper management demonstrated its own political bias by censoring a conservative student on their staff in the name of &#8220;objectivity&#8221; while refusing to hold its liberal-leaning staff writers accountable for similar if not greater transgressions of its supposed apolitical policy.
Shame on The Daily Reveille.
