Topline: The Christian genocide ongoing in Nigeria has claimed thousands of lives this year alone, but human rights advocates say the Nigerian government has turned a blind eye.
In the first nine months of this year, advocacy groups estimate that more than 7,000 Christians have been killed across Nigeria, many in attacks that leave entire communities burned to the ground.
For more than a decade, this pattern of violence has gone largely unnoticed. But American lawmakers — including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) — are calling for Nigeria to be reclassified as a “country of particular concern” for religious persecution.
“Many in the media share the same woke mindset that they will not call out radical Islamic terrorism for what it is, especially when it&#8217;s Christians who are the victims. And so it takes the rest of us to highlight this needs to end,” Cruz told Morning Wire.

Judd Saul is the founder of Equipping the Persecuted, a group that has been on the ground trying to minister to Nigerian Christians. He said the crisis has been building for decades as radical Muslim groups have been taking control of the area.
“What they have done is they move in, they populate, and once they gain population, they start taking political control. And once they gain political control, the killing starts,” Saul told Morning Wire.
These deaths often occur among women, children, and the elderly who can’t easily flee their small villages.
Why the silence: One of Saul’s biggest frustrations is how little the world knows about the ongoing genocide. The Nigerian government effectively controls what gets reported. Western outlets too often repeat official denials without sending reporters to see the devastation themselves.
“The mainstream media never shows up. They just take the government’s word for it, and every time Christians are killed, it’s always ‘unknown gunmen.’ But we know who’s doing it,” Saul said.
Now footage is emerging of burned churches, mass graves, and displaced families living under tarps in camps with no food or medicine.
Response from Washington: Cruz introduced legislation this month: the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025. It will impose sanctions on Nigerian officials accused of facilitating violence against Christians and other religious minorities.
Response from Nigeria: Nigerian officials continue to deny that Christians are being targeted for their faith. They’re framing the violence as clashes between herders and farmers. But many international watchdogs like Open Doors and International Christian Concern say that’s false.
Saul says the Nigerian military has repeatedly failed to respond to warnings of attacks. It’s because of this inaction that many Nigerian Christians are calling on the United States government to use its international influence to shine a spotlight on these atrocities.

Moscow doesn’t appear to want to end the war. It recently launched another major missile and drone attack on Ukraine that killed seven people – part of Russia&#8217;s campaign to knock out Ukraine’s energy supplies ahead of winter.

Trump has <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115419686256202789">denied</a> that report, but on Tuesday, Ukraine used a British Storm Shadow cruise missile to hit a plant in Bryansk, Russia.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also announced on Wednesday a “substantial pickup” in sanctions against Russia.
The exchange in missile attacks came as Trump backed out of a second peace summit with Putin. It was supposed to be held in Budapest, Hungary. The White House canceled the summit after a phone call between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Trump said Tuesday he <a href="https://x.com/Osint613/status/1980741977000821245">canceled</a> the summit because he did not “want to have a wasted meeting.”
Foreign policy experts <a href="https://www.fdd.org/analysis/2025/10/22/russia-does-not-feel-enough-pressure-ukraine-bombarded-over-2-deadly-nights-as-trump-sours-on-meeting-with-putin/">say</a> this was a necessary move by Trump, recognizing that Putin does not feel enough pressure for peace talks to be productive.
Ceasefire deal?: Trump said this week that the battle lines should be frozen where they are as a precondition to peace talks. Europe has backed that position, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I think that was [a] good compromise, but I’m not sure that Putin will support it,” Zelensky told reporters after landing in Oslo.
The Ukrainian president has continued to press his case for Tomahawk missiles after his meeting at the White House last week. Zelensky said in a <a href="https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/1980683702448386417">post</a> on X that “Russia continues to do everything to weasel out” of a ceasefire, and “as soon as the issue of long-range capabilities for Ukraine became less immediate, [Moscow’s] interest in diplomacy faded. This signals that deep strike capabilities may hold the key to peace.”
Israel: Vice President JD Vance paid a visit to Israel this week, primarily signaling the Trump administration’s commitment to holding together the ceasefire and moving forward with Trump’s 20-point peace plan. While there, Vance recognized some of the limits of the current situation.
“You basically have two regions in Gaza, one of which is relatively safe – I wouldn&#8217;t say very safe – and one of which is incredibly dangerous, and part of ensuring that we get to a durable peace is to broaden the scope of the area that&#8217;s safe,” <a href="https://x.com/AdamMilstein/status/1980692659422576716">said</a> Vance. “The international security force is a big part of that. We don&#8217;t yet have the international security force set up. That&#8217;s something we&#8217;re working towards.”

Topline: An illegal immigrant and well-known TikToker was shot by federal authorities in Los Angeles after he tried to evade arrest for a second time and allegedly rammed a federal vehicle.
The illegal immigrant allegedly behind the attack is Carlitos Ricardo Parías, 44, who is known on TikTok as Richard LA and who regularly exposes ICE operations online to his more than 132,000 followers.
The suspect allegedly tried to impede an ICE operation months ago, but got away. He was seen in handcuffs being hauled into a vehicle by bystanders while federal authorities were trying to arrest him for allegedly interfering with immigration operations, federal law enforcement sources told The Daily Wire.
U.S. Marshals encountered him again this week, arresting him while he attempted to flee a second time. During the attack on ICE agents in which Parías allegedly rammed a federal vehicle, agents responded with gunfire, hitting Parías in the elbow. A U.S. Marshal was wounded by a ricochet bullet that hit him in the hand.
Parías has been charged with assaulting a federal officer, which carries a sentence of up to eight years in prison.
Parías has been considered somewhat of a local hero, being honored by the Los Angeles City Council for his “tireless efforts to safeguard our neighborhoods from illegal raids” in exposing ICE operations on TikTok.
He is being prosecuted aggressively by U.S. attorneys in part because federal officials get so little support in deep blue, sanctuary areas that protect illegal aliens.
New York City riot over deportations: Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday raided New York City’s Canal Street, notorious for illegal immigrant crime, as a mob of rioters attempted to stop them.
Law enforcement arrested illegal aliens of African origin, each with a lengthy rap sheet. Five of the aliens entered the United States illegally and were let go under former President Joe Biden.
The raid on Canal Street came after Turning Point USA reporter Savanah Hernandez exposed African immigrants selling counterfeit designer handbags along the sidewalk. The aliens would take off running wherever the police showed up.
Sanctuary policies have protected the illegal immigrants, as well as facilitated their illicit activities on Canal Street, according to federal officials.

The officers engaged in a struggle with the bystanders, who refused to hand Parías over for arrest. They ultimately drove him to a nearby hospital after he wailed that his leg was broken.

Alongside revamping the FBI, President Trump deployed the National Guard to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/10/10/nx-s1-5567177/national-guard-map-chicago-california-oregon">four cities</a> this year in his “crackdown on crime” efforts &#8212; and after Monday, it will become five cities, with a federal appeals court overturning a lower court’s ruling, allowing him to send the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-can-deploy-oregon-national-guard-amid-anti-ice-protests-appeals-court-rules">Oregon National Guard</a> into Portland. President Trump expressed interest in sending the National Guard to New York, Baltimore, St. Louis, and New Orleans. However, only Republican governors welcomed this suggestion.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry sent a <a href="https://gov.louisiana.gov/assets/2025-Letters/9-29-25-LANG-RFApdf.pdf">letter</a> to U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth requesting the activation of 1,000 Louisiana National Guard personnel.
&#8220;The proposed mission and scope for the Louisiana National Guard would be to deploy throughout the state to urban centers, supplement law enforcement presence in high-crime areas, provide logistical and communication support, and secure critical infrastructure.&#8221;
Governor Landry expects Louisiana will see the troops as early as next month, right before the holidays.
Commenting on his decision to send troops to Los Angeles, President Trump said, “We will always do what is needed to keep our citizens safe, so we can, together, Make America Great Again.”

A shooting occurred in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning during an attempt by federal agents to arrest an illegal immigrant trying to escape custody for a second time, federal law enforcement sources told The Daily Wire.
The suspect rammed a law enforcement vehicle as he tried to flee from federal agents, Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers fired at the illegal immigrant, shooting the individual in the elbow. One law enforcement officer was shot in the hand by a ricochet bullet.
&#8220;ICE law enforcement officers, assisted by U.S. Marshals, pulled the illegal alien over in a standard law enforcement procedure. The illegal alien weaponized his vehicle and began ramming the law enforcement vehicle in an attempt to flee,&#8221; said McLaughlin.
&#8220;Fearing for the safety of the public and law enforcement, our officers followed their training and fired defensive shots. The illegal alien was shot in the elbow and one law enforcement officer was shot in the hand by a ricochet bullet. Both are in the hospital,&#8221; she added.
Tuesday&#8217;s shooting comes amid a 1,000% uptick in assaults on federal immigration agents.

California gubernatorial candidate Betty Yee, a Democrat, told host Piers Morgan that she would be in favor of considering a “gender neutral” Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028, arguing that trans-identifying female athletes are women and that biological women would be fine competing against them.
Yee made the comments on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” just days after one of her competitors, former Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-episode-drops-in-katie-porter-drama-staffer-takes-verbal-abuse-for-being-in-my-shot">Katie Porter</a> (D-CA), landed in hot water over two viral videos — one of which showed her berating a staffer, and the other a testy exchange with a CBS News reporter in which she refused to answer any follow-up questions.

“Wow,” Morgan replied. “You&#8217;ve got the Olympics coming to California, to L.A., so are you suggesting that you would allow trans athletes to compete in women&#8217;s sport in the Olympics if you were governor?”
“Well, I think there&#8217;s still a lot of discussion that needs to happen,” Yee said. “I think there&#8217;s a lot of information we need to learn about what&#8217;s really happening with the ability of trans athletes to compete, but my statement is about being able to be sure that they can compete, and right now —”
“My question is whether you think they should compete in women&#8217;s sport in the Olympics,” Morgan interrupted. “It&#8217;s coming to L.A., so it&#8217;s relevant.”
“I think transgender female athletes are women athletes,” Yee declared. “And they should be able to compete.”
“Wow,” Morgan responded. “Really? So if you were Governor of California, you would support biological males who identify as women competing in women’s sport in the Olympics?”
Nodding her head slightly, Yee continued, “They are now identifying as transgender female —”
“You think that makes them — and you think it’s fair that they should then compete in women’s sport?” Morgan asked again.
When asked directly why the sexes were separated in sport to begin with, Yee acknowledged that there were physical differences between men and women — but did not alter her position on trans-identifying men competing alongside women.
Morgan continued to press until he finally suggested that she might prefer a “gender neutral” Olympics — and Yee lamented that it wouldn’t be “tomorrow,” but was still “a conversation worth having.”
Sharing the clip a bit later, Morgan quipped, “If you thought Katie Porter’s campaign to be Governor of California was going badly, let me present one of her rivals&#8230;”

California’s current crime conundrum can be told as a story with (at least) three parts. Voters passed 2014’s <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/California_Proposition_47,_Reduced_Penalties_for_Some_Crimes_Initiative_(2014)">Proposition 47</a>, 2016’s <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/California_Proposition_57,_Parole_for_Non-Violent_Criminals_and_Juvenile_Court_Trial_Requirements_(2016)">Proposition 57</a>, and finally 2024’s <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/California_Proposition_36,_Drug_and_Theft_Crime_Penalties_and_Treatment-Mandated_Felonies_Initiative_(2024)">Proposition 36</a>.
In the first two, voters went along with progressive policies — sold using feel-good language — that created more homelessness, crime, and human misery. In the third, though, voters overwhelmingly rejected the failures caused by these earlier policies.
But now, California Governor Gavin Newsom and his state-level legislative allies are trying to undermine voters calling for more criminal accountability — including time in prison for those who break the law — by <a href="https://www.latimes.com/politics/newsletter/2025-06-02/newsom-insults-california-voters-by-not-funding-proposition-36">refusing</a> to adequately fund Prop. 36’s proposals.
For those unfamiliar, Prop. 47 downgraded most types of theft under $950 from felonies to misdemeanors and made it impossible to charge most simple possession cases as felonies rather than misdemeanors.
Combined with the fact that California’s <a href="https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Rogue-Prosecutors/Zack-Smith/9781637586532">rogue prosecutors</a> in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Oakland — just to name a few — refused to prosecute most misdemeanor offenses, lawlessness flourished.
Amid this front-end problem, California voters approved Prop. 57 in 2016. Voters were told this proposal was designed to allow “nonviolent” offenders who had been rehabilitated to be released from prison early.
Sounds good. Right?
Here’s the problem: The California legislature had previously <a href="https://archive.ph/0n9SO">redefined</a> “nonviolent” offenses to include <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?sectionNum=667.5.&amp;lawCode=PEN">crimes like</a> assault with a deadly weapon, soliciting murder, intimidating a witness, resisting arrest that causes harm to a police officer, elder or child abuse, arson with injury, human trafficking, certain types of manslaughter, rape of an unconscious person (though this has since changed), sex trafficking, and trafficking of children.
Most people would agree that those are not “nonviolent” crimes. And yet, because the California legislature had declared it so, those who committed these heinous offenses began to be released under Prop. 57’s regime.
Sensing that something wasn’t quite right, and that these soft-on-crime policies were hurting their communities rather than helping them, Californians took action.
Not only did they vote out of office the rogue district attorneys in <a href="https://www.heritage.org/crime-and-justice/commentary/recall-chesa-boudin-san-francisco-shows-rogue-prosecutor-movement">San Francisco</a>, <a href="https://www.dailysignal.com/2024/11/06/rogue-prosecutor-george-gascon-loses-reelection-as-la-county-district-attorney/">Los Angeles</a>, and <a href="https://www.law360.com/articles/1811708">Oakland</a>, but they also passed — with almost 70% of the vote — Prop. 36, which rolled back many of Prop. 47’s soft-on-crime policies.
Under Prop. 36, repeat shoplifters can now be charged with a felony punishable by up to three years in state prison. Those convicted of certain drug-dealing offenses must serve their sentences in state prison rather than county jail. (This matters because in 2011, the California legislature passed <a href="https://www.crimeandconsequences.com/crimblog/2019/06/violence-surging-in-ca-jails.html">AB 109</a>, which allows those who commit many types of crimes to serve their sentences in a county jail instead of a state prison. With jail overcrowding posing a real issue, many served far less time than they were supposed to.)
Those accused of certain drug possession offenses or who have multiple past convictions for drug crimes can be charged with a “treatment-mandated felony” — meaning that if a person completes a drug rehab program, his or her charges will be dismissed. If not, that person can face up to three years in state prison. Finally, Prop. 36 requires courts to warn those who come before them that if they provide illegal drugs to someone, they could be charged with murder if that person overdoses and dies as a result.
Governor Gavin Newsom opposed Prop. 36 and vigorously campaigned against it. Now that California voters have rejected his soft-on-crime policies, he’s pitching a temper tantrum and is actively opposing funding many of Prop. 36’s proposals.
In May 2025, Newsom <a href="https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article306495616.html">said,</a> “There were a lot of supervisors in the counties that promoted it &#8230; So, this is their opportunity to step up. Fund it!”
One state senator reacted, <a href="https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article306495616.html">saying,</a> “He is being absolutely recalcitrant because the voters didn’t vote the way he wanted them to and the way he told them to . . . He’s taking his football and going home.”
After <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/no-funding-allocated-for-prop-36-newsom-may-revise/">dragging his feet</a> for the first half of 2025, Newsom finally offered some funding for Prop. 36’s proposals. But <a href="https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article312272421.html">critics argue</a> that this money was already allocated and not enough to carry out the reforms in Prop. 36.
Newsom’s recalcitrance is unfortunate. Not only is he subverting the will of the voters, he’s also pushing back against commonsense policies designed to control California’s crime problem.
Californians know there needs to be accountability when someone breaks the law. They voted for it. And now Newsom and the California legislature need to fund it.

Federal officials on Wednesday announced the arrest of a man accused of deliberately sparking the deadly blaze that devastated Pacific Palisades, California, in January.
The Justice Department and the Los Angeles Police Department said at a press conference that 29-year-old Jonathan Rinderknecht of Melbourne, Florida, started the Lachman Fire on New Year’s Day. The Lachman Fire eventually became the Palisades Fire after it was rekindled by severe winds a week later. In the federal criminal complaint, Rinderknecht is charged with maliciously starting the fire that eventually “burned down the Palisades,” according to Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli.
If convicted on that charge, Rinderknecht faces up to 20 years in prison. However, Essayli stated that authorities have not yet determined all the charges that Rinderknecht will face, and more charges will likely be presented to a federal grand jury.
Essayli said that Rinderknecht, an Uber driver, was in Pacific Palisades late on New Year’s Eve after working throughout the evening. Rinderknecht allegedly got out of his car and walked up a trail to a nearby hilltop, where he recorded videos and listened to a rap song. The song was accompanied by a music video that showed objects being set on fire, according to Essayli.
“Twelve minutes into the new year, environmental sensing platforms indicated that a fire had started. It took the defendant several tries to contact 911 to report the fire,” Essayli said. “He fled the scene in his car, but turned around after passing fire engines driving in the opposite direction to fight the fire. While the Lachman Fire burned, the defendant walked up the same trail from earlier that night to watch the fire and firefighters, using his iPhone to take short videos of the scene.”
The U.S. attorney added that while firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze, the fire continued to smolder underground “within the root structure of the dense vegetation” and was rekindled by heavy winds on January 7, “causing what became known as the Palisades Fire.”

Rinderknecht was questioned by law enforcement on January 24 and is accused of lying to investigators about where he was when he first saw the Lachman Fire. Rinderknecht claimed that he was near the bottom of the hiking trail, but geo-location data from his 911 call revealed that he was standing “above the fire in a clearing nearly 30 feet from the blaze as it rapidly grew,” Essayli said.
Some of Rinderknecht’s passengers on New Year’s Eve told investigators that the suspect appeared agitated before he dropped them off. Essayli also pointed to images the suspect allegedly generated on the artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT that showed a burning city. The suspect allegedly generated the image in the months leading up to the fire.
Charging documents contained snippets of a conversation Rinderknecht had with ChatGPT, in which he reportedly said, &#8220;I am 28 years old. And … I basically … This just happened. Maybe like … I don’t know, maybe like 3 months ago or something. Like, the realization of all this. I literally burnt the Bible that I had. It felt amazing. I felt so liberated.&#8221;
They also included the prompt that Rinderknecht allegedly entered on July 11, 2024, to create the image:

In the middle, hundreds of thousands of people in poverty are trying to get past a gigantic gate with a big dollar sign on it. They are laughing, enjoying themselves, and dancing. The scene is detailed and impactful, highlighting the stark contrast and the direct connection between the different parts of the world.”</blockquote>
Rinderknecht was arrested in Florida, where he was most recently living, but was living in Pacific Palisades at the time of the fire. Essayli stated that Rinderknecht has no criminal history, and authorities did not disclose their belief regarding Rinderknecht’s motive, adding that it would be addressed in court.
Rinderknecht is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court in Orlando at 1:30 ET on Wednesday.

The Palisades Fire ripped through the Los Angeles neighborhood on January 7, killing 12 people and destroying thousands of homes. It was one of multiple devastating fires that ripped through Los Angeles County in January. The Eaton Fire, about 15 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles in Altadena, was the most destructive blaze, killing 19 people and destroying more than 9,000 buildings. The cause of the Eaton Fire is still being investigated.

Singer D4vd is not pausing his world tour following the discovery of a decomposing, dismembered body in the trunk of a car registered in his name.
The 20-year-old, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, is reportedly cooperating with the investigation. 
“D4vd has been informed about what’s happened. And, although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities,” his spokesperson said in a statement.
Los Angeles police are looking into the discovery of the unidentified woman’s remains, which were found in bags inside an abandoned Tesla that had been taken to the city impound. The car was searched after employees reported a foul stench coming from the vehicle.
Not much is known about the victim, except that she is 5’2” and had wavy black hair. She is also reported to have the word “Shhh…” tattooed on one of her fingers. Details were also released about the clothing she was wearing, but no updates were given on her age or race.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide, per <a href="https://www.foxla.com/news/la-coroner-releases-details-body-found-tesla-d4vd">Fox 11</a>, but no person of interest has been named.
“We know that we have human remains and we know they were contained within a vehicle,” said Alan Hamilton, LAPD Chief of Detectives.
“We are going to continue the investigation and when a determination is made that potentially there was a homicide, then it will transition into a homicide investigation.”
Burke first gained recognition on TikTok before being signed to Darkroom and Interscope Records. The “Romantic Homicide” singer has 2 million followers on Instagram and 5.4 billion streams on Spotify, per <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/09/10/entertainment/d4vd-criminal-case-takes-interesting-turn-murder-victim-idd-as-female/">The New York Post</a>.

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the Trump administration can arrest anyone it suspects of being in the United States illegally, lifting a U.S. District Court judge&#8217;s order barring immigration agents from conducting &#8220;roving patrols.&#8221;
In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court said that immigration officers have the right to detain people for questioning if they are suspected of being an illegal immigrant, The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2025-09-08/supreme-court-immigration-stops-los-angeles">reported</a>. Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a Trump appointee, wrote a 10-page opinion explaining the high court&#8217;s decision, saying that immigration officers have a reasonable and legal basis to detain suspected illegal immigrants in Los Angeles based on the “totality of the circumstances.&#8221;
&#8220;Here, those circumstances include: that there is an extremely high number and percentage of illegal immigrants in the Los Angeles area; that those individuals tend to gather in certain locations to seek daily work; that those individuals often work in certain kinds of jobs, such as day labor, landscaping, agriculture, and construction, that do not require paperwork and are therefore especially attractive to illegal immigrants; and that many of those illegally in the Los Angeles area come from Mexico or Central America and do not speak much English,&#8221; Kavanaugh added.
The Department of Homeland Security said last week that over 5,000 immigration arrests have been made in the &#8220;Los Angeles region&#8221; since June 6, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-immigration-stops-los-angeles-trump-57cc1f85ceafda0f11052b326c8b7173">reported</a>. Gregory Bovino, the chief Border Patrol agent in charge of the L.A. operation, said that the Trump administration has been successful &#8220;in getting the worst of the worst out&#8221; of the area. Much of the immigration crackdown in the L.A. area has focused on arresting suspected illegal immigrants in Home Depot parking lots, at car washes, and at farms. Immigration agents have also nabbed people while they were on the street and in their vehicles.
On July 11, U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong issued a temporary restraining order that stopped Trump&#8217;s immigration agents from detaining suspected illegal immigrants over their race, ethnicity, language, location, or employment, the Times reported. Two weeks later, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with the district judge&#8217;s ruling.
In an appeal to the Supreme Court, Trump Solicitor Gen. D. John Sauer argued, &#8220;Reasonable suspicion is a low bar — well below probable cause.&#8221; Sauer said that immigration agents can look at &#8220;the totality of circumstances&#8221; to detain someone suspected of entering the country illegally, adding that “illegal presence is widespread in the Central District [of California], where 1 in every 10 people is an illegal alien.”
Liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented from the majority ruling, arguing that Kavanaugh&#8217;s conclusions are incorrect.
“Immigration agents are not conducting ‘brief stops for questioning,’ as the concurrence would like to believe. They are seizing people using firearms, physical violence, and warehouse detentions,” she wrote. “Nor are undocumented immigrants the only ones harmed by the Government’s conduct. United States citizens are also being seized, taken from their jobs, and prevented from working to support themselves and their families.”

A federal judge on Tuesday said that President Donald Trump broke the law by deploying the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles County amid violent protests targeting immigration enforcement operations. 
Judge Charles Breyer, the younger brother of former liberal Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, <a href="https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/70496361/176/newsom-v-trump/">issued</a> a ruling that Trump was using the military to enforce domestic law in violation of federal law. The Trump administration had argued that the deployment of about 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines to Los Angeles was only to protect federal property and personnel. 
“Nevertheless, at Defendants’ orders and contrary to Congress’s explicit instruction, federal troops executed the laws,” wrote Breyer, a Clinton-appointed judge. “The evidence at trial established that Defendants systematically used armed soldiers (whose identity was often obscured by protective armor) and military vehicles to set up protective perimeters and traffic blockades, engage in crowd control, and otherwise demonstrate a military presence in and around Los Angeles.”
The specific law that Breyer said Trump violated was the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act, which limits the use of the military to enforce domestic law. 
Breyer’s order, which takes effect in 10 days, blocks Trump from using the approximately 300 National Guard troops left in Los Angeles from “engaging in arrests, apprehensions, searches, seizures, security patrols, traffic control, crowd control, riot control, evidence collection, interrogation, or acting as informants, unless and until Defendants satisfy the requirements of a valid constitutional or statutory exception.”
The case came to Breyer after California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom sued Trump.
“DONALD TRUMP LOSES AGAIN,” Newsom posted on X. “The courts agree — his militarization of our streets and use of the military against US citizens is ILLEGAL.”
Responding to the ruling, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli said that Breyer’s decision was misleading and that the National Guard would not be leaving Los Angeles. 
“The military will remain in Los Angeles,” he <a href="https://x.com/USAttyEssayli/status/1962891988291957185">wrote</a> on X. “This is a false narrative and a misleading injunction. The military has never engaged in direct law enforcement operations here in LA. They protect our federal employees our properties so our federal agents can safely enforce federal laws in the face of the thugs being unleashed and encouraged by state and local politicians.”

WASHINGTON — The United States Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have executed arrests of 5,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles since June, The Daily Wire can first report. And Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has a message for criminal illegals in the United States: &#8220;This is just the beginning.&#8221;
The 5,000th arrest in Los Angeles is an individual named Gustavo Garcia-Miranda, a criminal illegal alien and convicted drug trafficker from Mexico, a DHS official told The Daily Wire, sharing that Garcia-Miranda illegally entered the United States in 2008 and was arrested by Border Patrol for illegal re-entry.
&#8220;That’s 5,000 criminal illegal aliens, gang members, child predators, and murderers taken off our streets,&#8221; Noem told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Precious lives saved. Families protected. American taxpayers spared the cost of their crimes AND the burden of their benefits.&#8221;

&#8220;THANK YOU to our brave law enforcement officers,&#8221; the Homeland Security Secretary emphasized. &#8220;Make no mistake: if you are here illegally, we will find you, arrest you, and send you back. This is just the beginning.&#8221;
The arrests come in spite of pushback from lawmakers and California politicians who embrace sanctuary city policies, as well as the disruption of rioters in California, who began violently protesting federal agents following increased apprehension rates by ICE agents in Los Angeles in early June.
Video footage of the rioting showed individuals throwing bricks and Molotov cocktails at armored vehicles, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pentagon-announces-withdrawal-of-thousands-of-troops-from-los-angeles?author=Sam+Korkus&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Pentagon+Announces+Withdrawal+Of+Thousands+Of+Troops+From+Los+Angeles">prompting President Donald Trump</a> to federalize 4,000 members of the California National Guard within days, arguing that the government needed to restore order to the city, and an additional 700 Marines to support local law enforcement.
DHS emphasizes that despite these challenges, ICE and Border Patrol continued to push forward and deliver on the president&#8217;s promise to free American communities from illegal alien crime.
&#8220;Secretary Noem has been clear: LA rioters would not stop DHS or slow us down,&#8221; the agency said in a press release. &#8220;Our law enforcement will continue to enforce the law. And anyone who lays a hand on a law enforcement officer, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.&#8221;

On Friday, a judge <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/obama-judge-blocks-trump-from-defunding-sanctuary-cities">appointed by former President Barack Obama</a> ruled that Trump cannot cut federal funding from sanctuary cities around the country — cities that consider themselves “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants. That includes Los Angeles, which Trump&#8217;s DOJ sued in June, arguing that the city&#8217;s policies that bar Los Angeles resources from being used in immigration enforcement operations.
The president has argued vehemently against sanctuary cities, saying in April: “No more Sanctuary Cities! They protect the Criminals, not the Victims. They are disgracing our Country, and are being mocked all over the World. Working on papers to withhold all Federal Funding for any City or State that allows these Death Traps to exist!!!”
The DHS announcement also comes as the president&#8217;s federal enforcement operation in Washington, D.C., has announced dozens of arrests of illegal immigrants every night since August 7, when Trump&#8217;s crime enforcement began. On Monday night, for example, federal authorities <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/in-less-than-a-month-trumps-federal-d-c-force-makes-more-than-1k-arrests?author=Mary+Margaret+Olohan&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=In+Less+Than+A+Month%2C+Trump%E2%80%99s+Federal+D.C.+Force+Makes+More+Than+1K+Arrests">made a total of 87 arrests</a>, 39 of whom were illegal aliens with prior arrests for DUI, simple assault, second degree assault, sexual solicitation, felony robbery, contempt of court, and more.
One Mexican illegal alien arrested in D.C. on Monday night had a prior arrest for child rape and three prior immigration encounters. Another illegal alien arrested on Monday evening was a member of Tren de Aragua.

Rapper Lil Nas X has been hospitalized after he was spotted wandering the streets of Los Angeles in his underwear just before 6 a.m. on Thursday.
The “Old Town Road” singer was arrested by responding officers on the 11000 block of Ventura Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley after witnesses called in reports of a naked man in the area. Police said the celeb charged at officers when they arrived, per <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/lil-nas-x-arrested-wandering-naked-los-angeles-street-charging-officer-rcna226398">NBC News</a>. 
A source said that the rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, punched one of the responding officers twice in the face.
“He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for battery on a police officer,” the police report said.

Several videos <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2025/08/21/lil-nas-x-hospitalized-possible-overdose/">shared by TMZ</a> show Hill walking down the streets clad in nothing but underwear and white cowboy boots. The rapper can be heard saying, “Come to the party,” and “Didn’t I tell you to put the phone down?”
