Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) claimed during an interview over the weekend that voters would be &#8220;abandon[ing] the Constitution&#8221; if they do not vote for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in November.
Cheney made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Jonathan Karl on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week&#8221; while asked about her recent decision to endorse Harris over Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Cheney&#8217;s endorsement of Harris comes despite her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liz-cheney-endorses-kamala-harris-after-previously-warning-how-radical-she-was">repeated warnings</a> in the past about how far-left and dangerous Harris is on numerous issues.
“Kamala Harris is a radical liberal who would raise taxes, take away guns &amp; health insurance, and explode the size and power of the federal gov’t,” Cheney warned in 2020. “She wants to recreate America in the image of what’s happening on the streets of Portland &amp; Seattle. We won’t give her the chance.”
Now Cheney claims that &#8220;those of us who are conservative, those of us who believe in fidelity to the Constitution have a responsibility and have a duty to recognize, this is not about partisan politics, and the country is going to need to rebuild true conservative movement when we&#8217;re through this election cycle.&#8221;
&#8220;But this November, casting a vote for Donald Trump or writing someone in means that you&#8217;ve made the decision in too many instances that so many elected Republicans have made which is to abandon the Constitution,&#8221; she continued, &#8220;to tell yourself that this is just simply, you know, a partisan choice. That&#8217;s not what we&#8217;re facing this time around.&#8221;

CNN anchor Dana Bash began her <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaBX0pdYfxQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> of Cotton on &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; by remarking on the fact that both Cheney and his daughter, former Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/liz-cheney" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Liz Cheney</a> (R-WY), had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liz-cheney-endorses-kamala-harris-after-previously-warning-how-radical-she-was" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> their support of Harris over President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> this week.

&#8220;We were talking before — in the break,&#8221; Bash said. &#8220;I covered the Bush-Cheney administration. I traveled a lot with Dick Cheney, one of the most conservative Republicans alive today. It&#8217;s really remarkable that he endorsed a Democrat. What does that tell you about Donald Trump?&#8221;
Cotton, a Trump ally, replied, &#8220;Well, it is a remarkable time in politics. You have Dick Cheney endorsing a Democrat and you have a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-jr-scores-major-wins-for-trump-in-2-battleground-states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kennedy endorsing</a> a Republican,&#8221; he added, alluding to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
&#8220;I think what it tells us is that there&#8217;s a lot of ferment in American politics. But, in the end, endorsements are not going to make the difference in this race. What&#8217;s going to make the difference is their records. This is a very unusual presidential election,&#8221; Cotton said. &#8220;We have a former president running for office, first time in more than 100 years. People remember that, when Donald Trump was in office, prices were low, wages were high, we had peace and stability around the world.&#8221;
Cotton added, &#8220;Kamala Harris, as vice president, has brought us record high inflation. We have a wide-open southern border and we have war everywhere you turn around in the world. So, I know that endorsements sometimes make news, but most Americans are making their decisions based on the records of these two candidates. People remember that we had good times with Donald Trump. Kamala Harris and Joe Biden have brought us very bad times.&#8221;
In responding to Cotton, Bash said, &#8220;I hear you about endorsements. We don&#8217;t really know the impact that they have all the time. RFK Jr. hasn&#8217;t had — been in an elected office. Dick Cheney was vice president of the United States for eight years. He was a senior member of the House. He was chief of staff to Gerald Ford. He worked tirelessly to advance Republican policies for a long time. You don&#8217;t think his endorsement of a Democrat with that kind of pedigree is going to make a difference with the swing voters?&#8221;
&#8220;No, Dana, I really don&#8217;t —,&#8221; Cotton said.
&#8220;Or Never-Trump voters who weren&#8217;t sure about Harris?&#8221; Bash asked.
&#8220;Well, I mean, some of this is probably that Donald Trump beat his daughter in her last election by 39 points,&#8221; Cotton said, referring to Liz Cheney <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/08/16/us/wyoming-election-cheney-alaska" target="_blank" rel="noopener">losing</a> her House primary contest against Trump-backed Harriet Hageman in 2022.
&#8220;I think most Americans are going to look at this race and compare the records they have,&#8221; Cotton continued. &#8220;Again, it&#8217;s a very unusual race when you have a president who served in office, who brought good times to America, and you have Kamala Harris, a San Francisco liberal, who has brought to America exactly what you see in San Francisco as well.&#8221;

There are a lot of ways you can tell that a political campaign is in trouble. Of course you can look at the polls, and the various models that aggregate those polls. And right now the models do not look good for Kamala Harris. Right now, for example, Nate Silver&#8217;s model gives Donald Trump a 60% chance of winning, with a projected 277 electoral votes.

Who knows whether any of this is particularly accurate. It&#8217;ll all change by next week, most likely, and there&#8217;s still plenty of time to go. But the more interesting thing about Silver&#8217;s projection isn&#8217;t the specific figures. It&#8217;s that his data, which aggregates all the polls, shows a very clear trend. Kamala Harris is losing ground, quickly, as you can see from that chart. And it&#8217;s not hard to see why. When you&#8217;re only capable of giving one interview to a friendly news outlet in more than a month — and when you manage to bomb that interview — then people lose confidence in your campaign very quickly. And that&#8217;s what&#8217;s happening to Kamala Harris right now. She barely got a bounce from the convention. And now she&#8217;s in free fall. The media built up a elaborate hype train for Kamala, hoping it would carry her on those tracks to November. But the whole thing was so absurdly fake, so phony, that it couldn’t last. It ran out of steam. And now they’re stuck with Kamala Harris. Not the idea of Kamala Harris — the idea they constructed. But the fact of her as a person. Kamala Harris, the lame, unimpressive, inarticulate politician we all have known. 
At the same time, if you&#8217;re not a believer in polls or statistical models, there are plenty of other signs that things have taken a very bad turn for Kamala Harris&#8217; candidacy. One of them is that the campaign&#8217;s lying is becoming more flagrant and shameless by the day. There&#8217;s clear desperation everywhere you look. 
Last night for instance, Kamala&#8217;s account <a href="https://x.com/KamalaHarris/status/1831894912985657387" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a> an accusation that JD Vance had downplayed school shootings as just a &#8220;fact of life.&#8221; Here&#8217;s what Kamala&#8217;s handlers posted to her account, above a video of Vance&#8217;s speech: &#8220;School shootings are not just a fact of life. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can take action to protect our children—and we will.&#8221;
So she&#8217;s telling off JD Vance for supposedly saying that school shootings are inevitable and we should all get used to them. Predictably, the Associated Press also promoted the lie about what Vance said. They ran this headline: &#8220;JD Vance says school shootings are a &#8216;fact of life.'&#8221;

Several million people saw this smear and repeated it. The outrage machine kicked into gear, as expected. Eventually Twitter&#8217;s community notes feature corrected it, and the AP finally deleted their original post, and updated their headline. Now the AP&#8217;s headline reads very differently. It says,: &#8220;JD Vance says he laments that school shootings are a &#8216;fact of life.'&#8221; 
So they suggested that Vance was minimizing the fact that a school shooting had occurred, when in fact he was doing the opposite. As far as lies go, this one was extremely transparent. Anyone could just watch the video to see what JD Vance actually said. But the AP, and the Kamala Harris campaign, went ahead with the lie anyway. And that tells us that they&#8217;re desperate — obviously so. They&#8217;re in a very bad position and they know it. Campaigns that are confident, and surging in the polls, don&#8217;t need to invent fake quotes that are easy to disprove in about five seconds.

And for that matter, campaigns that aren&#8217;t collapsing don&#8217;t have surrogates who go wildly off-message all the time. But that&#8217;s happening to Kamala&#8217;s campaign too. People who are supposed to be promoting Kamala are, instead, sabotaging her messaging at every opportunity. 
Here for example is Joe Biden the other day, talking about the Inflation Reduction Act. This is the law that Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote on. But instead of arguing that the Inflation Reduction Act reduced inflation, Biden instead admitted that the law in fact had nothing to do with inflation. Instead he said it was a climate bill. Watch:

If you&#8217;re Kamala, that&#8217;s not exactly something you want to hear one of your surrogates say on the campaign trail. It&#8217;s an admission that Kamala Harris deceived the entire country about the one major legislative accomplishment she claims to have. And once you admit that, there&#8217;s no reason for anyone to trust her ever again. There&#8217;s certainly no reason to trust her when she says that she can implement her economic agenda — including taxing unrealized capital gains — without destroying the U.S. economy. 
And just to underscore that point, another prominent supporter of Kamala — Mark Cuban — just went on CNBC to explain that taxing unrealized capital gains would be a disaster. Watch:

Cuban went on to say that he&#8217;s supposedly spoken with Harris&#8217; team and that they now understand that taxing unrealized capital gains may not be a great idea. But that doesn&#8217;t explain why they proposed it in the first place. It also doesn&#8217;t explain why they&#8217;re still pushing it. Kamala hasn&#8217;t explained, in detail, why she still wants a tax on unrealized capital gains. Her team has walked back some of the numbers, but she&#8217;s still proposing the tax. Why is that exactly? How can she support a tax that even her own supporters recognized would be a disaster? 
We all know the answer to that question. Kamala Harris doesn&#8217;t know anything about economics. Ask her one question about unrealized capital gains and she&#8217;ll start babbling about equity. She won&#8217;t be able to defend the policy even for a moment. Everyone — even her surrogates — understands this. And now they&#8217;re comfortable coming out on television and admitting it.

These are not great signs for the Kamala Harris campaign. But maybe the worst sign of all is what took place earlier this week. Kamala received an endorsement from Liz Cheney, who recently lost her House seat by a margin that was almost unparalleled in modern politics. If there was ever an endorsement that qualified as the kiss of death, this is it.

Liz Cheney goes on and on about how Kamala Harris will save democracy and freedom in the United States. And people in the audience pretend to be excited about this endorsement. But if you go back just a couple of years, Liz Cheney had a very different perspective on Kamala Harris. She pointed out that Kamala had explicitly promised to suspend Americans&#8217; constitutional rights via executive order. She explained that Kamala Harris wants to spend trillions of dollars on universal healthcare. And she concluded that she&#8217;s a &#8220;Radical&#8221; to the left of Bernie Sanders who no one should vote for. Watch:

This is the kind of endorsement you&#8217;d probably rather refuse, if you had the choice. There is no one, on either side of the political spectrum, who covets an endorsement from Liz Cheney. But now it&#8217;s the endorsement that Kamala Harris is stuck with. This is the caliber of endorsement her candidacy is attracting, as her surrogates are publicly disavowing her policy positions. As the ship sinks, Kamala Harris is quite literally getting endorsed by the biggest losers in all of politics. 
Of course Kamala Harris has no one to blame for this but herself. Because she&#8217;s not appearing for interviews, she has to rely on surrogates to explain what she stands for, and why. Kamala Harris herself is nowhere to be found. That&#8217;s why people are still digging up clips of her speeches from several years ago, to try to figure out what a Kamala Harris administration would look like. That&#8217;s what we&#8217;re reduced to, when the candidate is incapable of speaking.

As I outlined yesterday, politicians like Kamala Harris demand censorship because without it, their candidacy falls apart. There are just too many obvious problems with her platform that don&#8217;t withstand any scrutiny. So she wants to shut down the Internet to prevent people from talking about them.

Frankly, we are now at the point where Kamala Harris would probably censor her own surrogates if she could. A candidate who isn&#8217;t capable of speaking for herself is now struggling to contain the people she&#8217;s sending out to do her messaging for her. With just a couple of months to go until the election, more than any poll or statistical model, that&#8217;s just about the worst imaginable sign for the Kamala Harris campaign. What that means is very clear, based on what we&#8217;ve seen so far: The lying, and the panic, are only going to intensify from here.

Cheney made the remarks during a Sunday CNN interview with Jake Tapper on &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; while discussing the state of the election.
&#8220;I haven&#8217;t endorsed anybody in this presidential race, certainly would never support Donald Trump,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And we know what Donald Trump will do, because he&#8217;s telling us every day. And anybody who has spent any time overseas, who has spent any time studying the history of autocracies and of autocrats knows we have to listen to what Donald Trump&#8217;s saying.&#8221;
Tapper responded by asking: &#8220;Are you still considering it, or would you rule it out?&#8221;

If he prevails in the primary contest, Trump is poised to have a 2020 rematch against Biden.

The former lawmaker said she is &#8220;definitely&#8221; going to spend next year helping to elect &#8220;serious&#8221; and &#8220;sane&#8221; people in both major parties to Congress.
&#8220;We have got to elect people who believe in the Constitution and who take their responsibility seriously to Congress,&#8221; Cheney said.
Cheney was once the third-ranking Republican in the House, but acknowledged that she does not carry so much sway in the current GOP conference. On the topic of the GOP-led House finding a new speaker, Cheney demurred.
&#8220;I hesitate to endorse anybody because I think that won&#8217;t be helpful for them,&#8221; Cheney said.
After leaving Congress, Cheney <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liz-cheney-lands-on-her-feet-with-gig-at-university-of-virginia">landed</a> a position as a professor of politics at the University of Virginia earlier this year and has been working on a <a href="https://www.axios.com/2023/09/20/liz-cheney-book-cover-new" target="_blank" rel="noopener">book</a> that is due out in December.

Many students turned their backs to Cheney during her speech and others booed, while she also received some signs of support from the audience. According to the Cowboy State Daily, <a href="https://cowboystatedaily.com/2023/05/30/colorado-college-grads-turn-backs-to-alumnus-liz-cheney-during-commencement-address/#:~:text=About%20half%20of%20Colorado%20College's,Class%20of%202023%20on%20Sunday." target="_blank" rel="noopener">roughly half</a> of the graduates turned their backs to Cheney during her speech.

“I had to choose between lying and losing my position in House leadership,” she added.
Colorado College is a private liberal arts college in Colorado Springs and has a student body of over 2,000 students. The school’s president, Leah Song Richardson, <a href="https://gazette.com/news/education/colorado-college-alum-liz-cheney-delivers-commencement-speech-graduates-turn-chairs-away-from-stage-in/article_32e7fc22-fd89-11ed-92a8-f7214a714b08.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told students</a> to “welcome different perspectives” in the leadup to Cheney’s speech.
“The liberal arts education that you received here, both inside the classroom and outside, has taught you how to think,” she said. “It’s taught you how to think critically, to welcome different perspectives, to see and understand different viewpoints, to challenge and debate each other and the ideas with which you may disagree.”

Cheney, who became well-known for her feud with Trump while serving on the Democrat-run <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/january-6-committee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">January 6 committee</a>, was booted from Congress after she lost a primary race to current Rep. Harriet Hagemen (R-WY), who was backed by Trump and went on to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/republican-harriet-hageman-replaces-liz-cheney-wins-wyoming-house-seat" target="_blank" rel="noopener">win the general election</a>.
One student complained to the Cowboy State Daily that Cheney was too conservative. “She stood up to Trump, and that was commendable,” one student said. “But that doesn’t change her voting record or her stance on what I consider to be basic human rights.”
During her speech, Cheney also took shots at men, saying that more women should be in politics.
“This country needs more of you [women] in office,” she said. “You may have noticed that men are pretty much running things these days, and it’s not going all that well. You can change that.”
In the lead-up to the 2022 midterm elections, Cheney campaigned for a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/first-time-im-campaigning-for-a-democrat-liz-cheney-hits-the-trail-in-michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Democratic candidate in Michigan</a> and opposed Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.

Former Congresswoman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/liz-cheney" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Liz Cheney</a> has landed on her feet with a new job as a professor of politics at the University of Virginia.
The UVA Center for Politics announced the hire Wednesday. Cheney will become a professor of practice at the school and participate in both seminars and research. Cheney was one of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump in 2021. She was primaried out of her seat in the 2022 midterms.
“Preserving our constitutional republic is the most important work of our time, and our nation’s young people will play a crucial role in this effort,” Cheney said in the university&#8217;s <a href="https://news.virginia.edu/content/liz-cheney-serve-professor-practice-uva-center-politics" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news release</a>. “I look forward to working with students and colleagues at the center to advance the important work they and others at the University of Virginia are doing to improve the health of democracy here and around the world. I hope my work with the Center for Politics and the broader community at the University of Virginia will contribute to finding lasting solutions that not only preserve, but strengthen our democracy.&#8221;
As a professor, Cheney will give University-wide lectures, and serve as a guest lecturer in seminars with Center for Politics director Larry J. Sabato and other faculty. She will also contribute to the center&#8217;s research, and participate in university and community events. She will retain her position through the end of the fall 2023 semester, with an option to renew.
“With democracy under fire in this country and elsewhere around the world, Liz Cheney serves as a model of political courage and leadership,” Sabato added in the news release. “Liz will send a compelling message to students about integrity. She’s a true profile in courage, and she was willing to pay the price for her principles and democracy itself.”
“Our students will have an incredible opportunity to learn from Liz Cheney, who has fiercely defended democracy as part of a distinguished career,&#8221; University of Virginia President Jim Ryan added. &#8220;I’m delighted that she has chosen the University of Virginia and the Center for Politics as a next step, and I very much look forward to working with her.&#8221;
Cheney was one of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach former President Trump. That vote, along with repeated criticisms of her own party, cost Cheney her position as the House Republican Conference Chair. After that, she was nominated to the January 6th Committee. Cheney lost her seat in the 2022 Republican primary to a Trump-backed challenger, natural resources lawyer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-liz-cheney-destroyed-in-wyoming-gop-primary-trump-responds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harriet Hageman</a>, in a 66%-29% blowout. Hageman went on to win the general election.
Cheney has already had some experience as a lecturer. Time Magazine announced on Monday that finalists had been selected for its 2022 Person of the Year, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), and Twitter CEO Elon Musk.
Other finalists listed in the <a href="https://www.today.com/news/time-2022-person-of-the-year-shortlist-rcna60072" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> — revealed by the &#8220;TODAY&#8221; show on Monday — included Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The winner will be revealed on &#8220;TODAY&#8221; during Wednesday&#8217;s broadcast.
DeSantis was re-elected as Florida&#8217;s governor in November and has been widely speculated to be a GOP alternative to former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. The governor became well-known for his attacks against COVID pandemic restrictions and his criticisms of the Biden administration.

The poll found that DeSantis has gained ground on President Joe Biden, moving from being down nine points at the start of 2022 to being tied with the president now, 42-42. Trump trails Biden by 10 points, a gap that grew by two points since the start of 2022.
Cheney&#8217;s notoriety has increased in mainstream media over her opposition to Trump and involvement in the House committee to investigate the events of January 6, 2021. Despite her acclaim among some of those on the Left, Cheney was soundly defeated during her party&#8217;s August primary by Harriet Hageman. Hageman would go on to win Wyoming&#8217;s only House seat in November.
The congresswoman later chose to endorse multiple Democrats in the days ahead of the midterm elections. Some rumors have also swirled regarding Cheney announcing a future <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liz-cheney-says-shes-thinking-about-presidential-run-after-gop-primary-loss" target="_blank" rel="noopener">presidential run</a> in 2024.
“I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office,” Cheney said about a potential run.

The decision “is something I’m thinking about and I’ll make a decision in the coming months,&#8221; she added in an August interview.
