<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House</a> Republicans are starting up a new panel to investigate events leading up to and after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/january-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">January 6</a>, 2021, Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) revealed on Wednesday.
A new select subcommittee is being established under the House Judiciary Committee and will be chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), who led the counter-probe into the U.S. Capitol breach and the Democrat-led January 6 Committee, leading to a report that demanded <a href="https://cha.house.gov/_cache/files/6/d/6dae7b82-7683-4f56-a177-ba98695e600d/145DD5A70E967DEEC1F511764D3E6FA1.final-interim-report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">further inquiry</a> into its leaders — Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) — for suspected wrongdoing related to data retention and witnesses.
&#8220;House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done,&#8221; Johnson said in a statement. &#8220;We are establishing this Select Subcommittee to continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people. The composition and other details regarding the Select Subcommittee will be announced soon.&#8221;
The announcement comes after President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> issued a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-issues-full-pardon-to-nearly-all-j6-defendants-could-be-released-from-prison-tonight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sweeping executive order</a> on Monday, hours into his second term, granting pardons to about 1,500 criminal defendants related to the January 6 Capitol riot. That move followed former President Joe Biden issuing preemptive <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-issues-last-minute-pardons-for-fauci-mark-milley-and-jan-6-committee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pardons</a> to members of the January 6 Committee right before he left office, including Thompson and Cheney, and others. Trump himself faced a criminal prosecutions tied to the 2020 election and January 6, but they faltered after the 2024 presidential contest.

In a statement of his own, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said &#8220;Loudermilk has been the leader in getting to the bottom of what the Democrat-led January 6 Committee failed to uncover, and we look forward to helping him bring all the facts to the American people.&#8221;
After receiving their pardons, Thompson and Cheney released a joint <a href="https://www.wlbt.com/2025/01/20/thomspon-cheney-release-statement-wake-presidential-pardon/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> thanking Biden and lamenting how they were being subject to continued scrutiny.
&#8220;We express our gratitude to President Biden for recognizing that we and our families have been continuously targeted not only with harassment, lies, and threats of criminal violence but also with specific threats of criminal prosecution and imprisonment by members of the incoming administration, simply for doing our jobs and upholding our oath of office,&#8221; the pair said, adding, &#8220;We have been pardoned today not for breaking the law but for upholding it.&#8221;

The hosts of left-wing political podcast &#8220;Pod Save America&#8221; — all of whom are veterans of former President Barack Obama&#8217;s administration — complained during a recent episode that President Joe Biden had given an award to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) rather than their old boss.
The three — Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor — agreed unanimously on one of the awards Biden chose to give: the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation&#8217;s highest civilian honor, to billionaire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-to-award-hillary-clinton-george-soros-with-presidential-medal-of-freedom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George Soros</a>.
&#8220;Well-earned Medal of Freedom, if I do say so!&#8221; Lovett said.
Favreau, after noting that Soros was an investor, added, &#8220;There&#8217;s a good one.&#8221;
&#8220;He got one right,&#8221; Vietor agreed before pivoting to complain about the selection process: &#8220;It doesn’t make any sense. You can give it to living people, you can give it to dead people, you can give it to foreign nationals, Colin Powell got it twice for some reason, you can add a ‘with distinction’ flag with no real explanation for what that means.&#8221;
All three then grumbled about the fact that Biden chose to award Cheney — although she received a lesser award, the Presidential Citizens Medal — rather than returning the honor Obama showed Biden when he awarded him the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nbcs-lauer-wept-when-obama-honored-biden-hank-berrien" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Medal of Freedom</a>.
&#8220;Liz Cheney didn’t get the Medal of Freedom, she got the one just below it, which by the way, pissed off some resistance folks on Twitter. I bet Liz Cheney could use a pardon more than the f***ing medal!&#8221; Favreau cracked, referring to rumors that the White House had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-aides-discussing-preemptive-pardons-for-fauci-schiff-cheney-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">considered &#8220;pre-emptive&#8221; pardons</a> for those against whom Trump might seek retribution.
Lovett wondered, &#8220;Why is there a silver in this? What are we doing?&#8221;
&#8220;Obama gave [a Medal of Freedom] to Biden, and Biden did not return the favor,&#8221; Favreau complained.

Lovett aimed a jab at the behind-the-scenes efforts to oust Biden from the 2024 presidential race — an effort that many believe was driven at least in part by Obama — adding, &#8220;I guess they’re not really on speaking terms, I suppose, after all that’s happened!&#8221;
The solution, all three agreed, was to have a more &#8220;objective&#8221; process in selecting those who might be honored for such awards: &#8220;If you want to make it special and a revered honor, you kinda got to have some kind of independent body that is just, like, &#8216;hey, president, here’s where we go.'&#8221;

Liz Cheney (R-WY) on Friday after she was given an award by President Joe Biden this week for her controversial work with the Democrats on the unofficial, partisan January 6 committee.
Biden awarded Cheney on Thursday with the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest award a president can give to civilians, because of her work in trying to take down Trump.
Trump called Cheney &#8220;totally corrupt&#8221; and noted that she and the rest of the committee &#8220;destroyed and deleted all evidence from their crooked investigation of January 6th.&#8221;
&#8220;Cheney has the distinction of losing her Congressional seat by the largest margin in History!&#8221; Trump wrote. &#8220;The people of Wyoming understood how bad for our Country she was, but Biden rewarded her only because she hated &#8216;TRUMP.'&#8221;
Trump called Cheney a &#8220;low intelligence&#8221; person and a &#8220;dishonest thug&#8221; along with everyone else on the committee.

During her time on that committee, Cheney communicated with an anti-Trump witness behind her lawyer’s back, The Daily Wire reported, an astounding ethical violation for which Cheney faced no legal consequences. Biden aides have discussed a pre-emptive blanket pardon to protect Cheney from any inquiries or indictments from the incoming Trump administration that stem from her actions working against Trump. Biden aides have also discussed such pardons for Anthony Fauci and Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who perpetuated the Russia collusion hoax against Trump.
Texts from Cheney show that she communicated with the J6 committee’s “star witness,” former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson. Cheney communicated with Hutchinson without her attorney Stefan Passantino’s knowledge.
“Though she worked behind the scenes to obtain Hutchinson’s juiciest allegations in 2022, some of which were later found to be false, Cheney never mentioned the backchannel talks with Hutchinson or Griffin in her book ‘Oath and Honor’ about the riot,” the New York Post reported in October.
Cheney also campaigned with Vice President Kamala Harris in the closing weeks of her losing campaign. Given Biden’s seeming attempts to undermine Harris’ campaign, rewarding Cheney could be seen as a double win for the outgoing president.
Biden is also bestowing the award on Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who led the J6 committee with Cheney. In 2005, Thompson, along with 30 other Democrats, protested the certification of Ohio’s election results even though then-Sen. John Kerry had already conceded the election.

President Joe Biden took a wave of backlash after it was announced on Thursday that he planned to honor Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and former Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-to-honor-liz-cheney-three-weeks-before-trumps-inauguration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Liz Cheney</a> (R-WY) with the Presidential Citizens Medal before he leaves office.
&#8220;Throughout two decades in public service, including as a congresswoman for Wyoming and vice chair of the committee on the Jan. 6 attack, Liz Cheney has raised her voice — and reached across the aisle — to defend our nation and the ideals we stand for: Freedom. Dignity. And decency,” the White House said of the former Wyoming congresswoman, who was routed in the 2022 Republican primary after she voluntarily joined the lopsided January 6th Committee. &#8220;Her integrity and intrepidness remind us all what is possible if we work together.&#8221;
Biden also plans to award <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/02/us/politics/presidential-citizens-medal-liz-cheney.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rep. Thompson</a>, who chaired the January 6th Committee, along with 18 others.
Critics weren&#8217;t so sure that the award was the honor President Biden appeared to believe it was, however, arguing that it was &#8220;meaningless&#8221; or essentially a &#8220;participation trophy.&#8221;

Given Biden’s seeming <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/all-the-ways-biden-is-subtly-undermining-kamala" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attempts to undermine</a> Harris’ campaign, rewarding Cheney could be seen as a double win for the outgoing president.
Biden is also bestowing the award on Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who led the J6 committee with Cheney. In 2005, Thompson, along with 30 other Democrats, protested the certification of Ohio’s election results even though then-Sen. John Kerry had already conceded the election.
Other people set to receive the medal are Mary Bonauto, who argued on behalf of same-sex marriage before the Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges, and Evan Wolfson, an attorney who also argued for the legalization of same-sex marriage.
Numerous other people who have been tied to Biden for decades will also receive medals in a ceremony on Thursday, including former senators Ted Kaufman of Delaware, Bill Bradley of New Jersey, and Chris Dodd of Connecticut. Bradley is also a former New York Knicks player.

Katyal&#8217;s logic was simple: a pardon for Cheney, despite the fact that she hasn&#8217;t yet been charged with anything, would give credence to claims that she may have committed a crime that would required her to be pardoned.
&#8220;I think what Trump is trying to do here is to bait President Biden into pardoning Liz Cheney, and that&#8217;ll allow Trump to say, ‘Hey, look even Biden thinks Liz Cheney did something wrong,'&#8221; he explained. If he were able to cast doubt on Cheney&#8217;s role in the investigation, he could then also argue that, by extension, the entirety of the investigation was tainted and thus justify the pardons he wants to issue for those who were convicted on charges related to the riot on Capitol Hill and the breach of the U.S. Capitol.
Katyal also argued that if Cheney was ever charged for anything related to her work as a part of that committee, <a href="https://www.threads.net/@insidewithpsaki/post/DD5FdTsNz3z?xmt=AQGzPTMhwv89y4WApOiwaLKWXQU1T22bvJCka0hLKs9uyQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nothing was likely to stick</a>.
&#8220;It would fail right at the get go, not just because there&#8217;s no crime here or any credible allegation, but also because Liz Cheney, as a member of Congress at the time, is entitled to the constitutional protection of speech or debate immunity,&#8221; he told Psaki.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) made it clear that he was not in favor of President Joe Biden issuing &#8220;preemptive&#8221; pardons for members of the January 6th Committee and other critics of Donald Trump out of fear that the president-elect could seek retribution once he takes office.
Some in the White House have floated the possibility that Biden could <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-aides-discussing-preemptive-pardons-for-fauci-schiff-cheney-report">issue pardons</a> to committee members like former Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) before he left office, thus insulating them from any potential charges stemming from their work on that committee. They also suggested similar pardons for Dr. Anthony Fauci and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is now a senator-elect.
But despite the fact that Blumenthal is among the Democrats insisting that Trump&#8217;s new administration will &#8220;weaponize&#8221; the justice system against his political opponents, he told CNN anchor Jim Acosta that he would oppose blanket pardons for those who might be at risk.
&#8220;I strongly oppose preemptive pardons. First of all, it’s in some ways going to be perceived as an implicit acknowledgment of guilt,&#8221; Blumenthal explained, referencing his own past as a prosecutor. &#8220;And people should know that walking into a courtroom and making charges is far from proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. There is no evidence of wrongdoing against those members of the January 6 committees who brought those impeachment articles or who prosecuted them. And the likely beneficiaries of preemptive pardons would be the top echelon, and the underlings would still have the fear of that kind of prosecution.&#8221;

Blumenthal went on to explain that he would prefer to simply allow the criminal justice system to do its work, adding, &#8220;I think any such unfounded, unjust charges against people who simply did their jobs would ultimately cause a backlash against Donald Trump because there will be acquittals and the costs of their defense or investigation, I think, should be borne by a defense fund — I’d certainly contribute — or by a pro bono legal team, I sign up, count me in, because I think they are on the right side. And we ought to make these cases a test case for the principle of justice.&#8221;
Blumenthal shared a similar statement via X, saying, &#8220;Broad blanket preemptive pardons are a bad idea. Fully recognizing that DOJ &amp; other federal law enforcement may be weaponized for retribution or intimidation, the way to stop a bully is to confront him, not run &amp; hide.&#8221;

According to a new report, President Joe Biden&#8217;s aides are discussing whether he should preemptively pardon government officials to protect them from possible inquiries or indictments from the incoming Trump administration.
“White House officials &#8230; are carefully weighing the extraordinary step of handing out blanket pardons to those who’ve committed no crimes, both because it could suggest impropriety, only fueling Trump’s criticisms, and because those offered preemptive pardons may reject them,” POLITICO <a href="//EB89B6DC-96C7-4A6A-871D-B88862E68717/v" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Names mentioned by POLITICO include members of Congress’ Jan. 6 Committee as well as Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D-CA), former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
“The beneficiaries know nothing,” one source insisted to POLITICO.

Some Democrats in Congress are urging Biden to issue the pardons. Massachusetts hard-Left Senator Ed Markey, attacking Trump, <a href="https://www.wgbh.org/news/politics/2024-11-26/sen-markey-urges-biden-to-issue-preemptive-pardons-ahead-of-trumps-inauguration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in late November, “I think that without question, Trump is going to try to act in a dictatorial way, in a fascistic way, in a revengeful first year … towards individuals who he believes harmed him. &#8230; If it’s clear by January 19th that [revenge] is his intention, then I would recommend to President Biden that he provide those preemptive pardons to people, because that’s really what our country is going to need next year.”
Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) said on Wednesday, “This is no hypothetical threat. The time for cautious restraint is over. We must act with urgency to push back against these threats and prevent Trump from abusing his power.”
Earlier this week, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre <a href="//EB89B6DC-96C7-4A6A-871D-B88862E68717/v" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters, “As it relates to pardon- — pardoning or any clemency, the president, as you know, at the end of the year, makes announcements. He’s thinking through that process very thoroughly. There’s a process in place, obviously. And so, once — I’m not going to get ahead of — of the president on this. But you could expect more announcement, more par- — pardons and clemency at the end of — at the end of — at the end of this term.”
Asked how soon those other pardons could come, she answered, “I don’t have a timeline for you. As you know, this usually happens towards the end. And so, the president is going through that process, thinking through that process. I’m not going to get ahead of him. But you can expect more announcements to come.”

Speaking at an event in Arizona on Thursday, Trump slammed Cheney as a “radical war hawk” who got to make decisions about war while “sitting in Washington in a nice building,” arguing that “she always wanted to go to war.”
“Let’s put her with a rifle, standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, okay? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face,” Trump said.
The media, Cheney, and many Democrats responded to the remarks by claiming that Trump had called for Cheney to be executed.

CNN’s Kasie Hunt reported on Trump’s remarks, saying on Friday morning that he “is escalating his violent rhetoric, suggesting one of his most prominent critics, former Congresswoman Liz Cheney, should be fired upon.”

When <a href="https://x.com/neeratanden/status/1852359584247132220">liberal political consultant Neera Tanden</a> called Beauchamp out for pointing out the truth, he hit back and wrote, “It is not &#8216;defending&#8217; Trump to describe what he said accurately — it is basic intellectual honesty. Telling the truth is how we in the media retain our credibility, especially when we frequently (and rightfully!) criticize Trump.”
On Friday, Trump also hit back at the lies and wrote on his <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113409095736564025?_nlid=pvgG2FXR4C&amp;_nhids=jnwAhmPXmL" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Truth Social</a> that Cheney is a &#8220;War Hawk, and a dumb one at that, but she wouldn’t have &#8216;the guts&#8217; to fight herself. It’s easy for her to talk, sitting far from where the death scenes take place, but put a gun in her hand, and let her go fight, and she’ll say, &#8216;No thanks&#8230;'&#8221;

Democrats are now becoming desperate and they are trotting out their last line of defense: Celebrities.
Yes, it&#8217;s celebrity time. Now, it&#8217;s always bewildered me that Democrats believe celebrities are really going to move the needle in a major way in favor of their party. It has never worked in my lifetime.
Barack Obama didn&#8217;t need celebrities, he was a celebrity. Hillary Clinton tried using celebrities and failed. Joe Biden really didn&#8217;t have much by the way of celebrity endorsements because his entire campaign was run from his basement.
Well, now Kamala Harris is calling on all of her Hollywood friends to cut endorsements for her.
Members of “The Avengers” cast decided to cut a commercial that is indeed the weirdest commercial ever. They literally end it by shouting “Down with democracy” as they say that Kamala Harris should be the president:

Jimmy Kimmel, by the way, is now so excited for Kamala Harris that he is actually violating the law. Here he was the other night doing just that:

So, yes, that&#8217;s a joke. The problem is, the Department of Justice actually <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-supporter-douglass-mackey-sentenced-to-7-months-in-prison-over-voting-memes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prosecuted a man</a> named Douglass Mackey back in October of 2023 for this exact same joke.
Mackey had about 58,000 Twitter followers when he tweeted out and texted some information suggesting that black voters should show up late for the election. They prosecuted him and he went to jail. Jimmy Kimmel, however, can apparently do it with no problem at all.

But the desperation is setting in for the Democratic Party. They&#8217;re looking for a closing argument.
Their latest attempt comes courtesy of President Trump himself. President Trump was out on the campaign trail with Tucker Carlson last night in Glendale, Arizona, and he started talking about Liz Cheney. Here is what he had to say:

I actually don&#8217;t like the Chicken Hawk argument. It was crap when it was trotted out against George W. Bush and all of his supporters back in the 2000s and I think it’s crap now. I don&#8217;t think congressmen are sitting there thinking, “Well, it&#8217;s not me, so I&#8217;m just going to send troops.”
The reality is, there are wide differences of opinion about foreign policy among people who have served in the military and people who have not served in the military. So, I don’t like the Chicken Hawk argument because it&#8217;s specious, empty, and foolish.
But that is not the rip on Trump. What they are ripping Trump for is the part where he said, “Let&#8217;s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her&#8230;”
They&#8217;re claiming he wants her assassinated. I&#8217;m sorry, but that’s just not true. It&#8217;s not real. Trump is not calling for the killing of Liz Cheney. He&#8217;s clearly making the exact same argument the entire Left made about the entire Right during the period 2002 to 2008 in which they said, “You guys are really sanguine about sending troops into harm&#8217;s way, but very few of you have served in the military and it would be totally different if you were on the front lines with barrels trained at you.”
Liz Cheney then put out a <a href="https://x.com/Liz_Cheney/status/1852292100844621974">statement</a> saying:
<blockquote>This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten those who speak against them with death. We cannot entrust our country and our freedom to a petty, vindictive, cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant.</blockquote>
Listen, it&#8217;s not my fault you can&#8217;t speak English or that you&#8217;re being radically dishonest by taking President Trump out of context.
Then, this was the literal headline today over at <a href="https://www.drudgereport.com/">Drudge</a>:

And then there was this one from the <a href="https://www.the-express.com/news/politics/153330/vile-trump-shot-liz-cheney">Daily Express</a>:

Not a fact. That&#8217;s not remotely what he said. 
This is the stupidest game — and they&#8217;re now playing this game full-time. They&#8217;re finding things that Trump says that are actually unobjectionable on their face. You can disagree with the argument, but the actual language is being skewed and twisted in order to achieve something that Trump never said.
