House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said on Tuesday that he didn&#8217;t understand a reporter&#8217;s question comparing President Donald Trump&#8217;s recent military action in Iran with former President Barack Obama&#8217;s military action in Libya in 2011.
Jeffries took the question from Fox News congressional correspondent Bill Melugin, who referenced 2011 comments from then House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). At the time, Pelosi had insisted that Obama did not need prior authorization from Congress to strike Libya, nor did he need authorization to continue military action there.

&#8220;House Democrats say Trump needs that approval to bomb Iran,&#8221; Melugin said. &#8220;What&#8217;s the difference?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, obviously, Libya and the circumstances connected to that were very different than the circumstance that we face in Iran right now,&#8221; Jeffries said, adding, &#8220;I mean, I don&#8217;t even understand the genesis or basis of that question, not suggesting you&#8217;re asking it in bad faith.&#8221;
&#8220;Libya went on for seven months,&#8221; Melugin pointed out.
&#8220;But I&#8217;ve said — as I&#8217;ve indicated — first of all, I was not in Congress at the time, so we&#8217;re dealing with what we&#8217;re dealing with right now, which is a catastrophic endless war as Donald Trump has characterized it,&#8221; Jeffries claimed despite the fact that the current operation was just over 72 hours old and Trump&#8217;s initial prediction was that the mission could be accomplished in a matter of weeks.
Jeffries went on to complain that the Trump administration had acted without intelligence indicating &#8220;a preeminent attack on the United States&#8221; or American interests and claimed that if such action was necessary, it meant that the president had not been telling the truth when he said that the airstrikes last year had completely wiped out Iran&#8217;s nuclear program.
Multiple Democrats — including Jeffries — have criticized Trump for authorizing action against Iran without first consulting Congress for authorization. Secretary of State <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rubio-unloads-on-reporter-who-asks-why-trump-didnt-notify-congress-before-striking-iran">Marco Rubio</a> explained that the Gang of Eight had been informed, and then cited the War Powers Resolution of 1973 to assert that the Trump administration had done things by the book.
The War Powers Resolution states that the president can engage in military action for up to 48 hours without informing Congress, and can continue to wage war for up to 60 days — with an additional 30 days for any necessary troop drawdowns — without going to Congress for authorization. As Rubio also noted, no presidential administration — Republican or Democrat — has ever accepted the War Powers Resolution as constitutional.

At least 79 people drowned early Wednesday morning, and hundreds more are feared dead after an overcrowded boat of migrants sank in the Mediterranean Sea near Greece.
The shipwreck occurred 47 nautical miles from the Greek town of Pylos. Greek officials have rescued more than 100 passengers from the sea, <a href="https://www.thenationalherald.com/president-sakellaropoulou-departs-for-kalamata/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">housing</a> them in nearby Kalamata. 
&#8220;According to the people, there were 750 people on board&#8230; We now hear reports of a shipwreck and fear they are true,&#8221; Alarm Phone, a trans-European network that supports rescue operations and vehemently <a href="https://twitter.com/alarm_phone/status/1669001422480846850?cxt=HHwWhMC9ye78vakuAAAA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opposes</a> strong border policies, said on <a href="https://twitter.com/alarm_phone/status/1668913096667144193" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a>. 
According to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65901005" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BBC</a>, survivors spoke of as many as 500 to 700 people on the boat, with regional health director Yiannis Karvelis saying, “The number of the people on board was much higher than the capacity that should be allowed for this boat.”
The <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/14/world/europe/greece-migrants-boat-sank.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ship</a> set sail from Tobruk, Libya, intending to reach Italy, according to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/seventeen-drown-100-rescued-after-migrant-shipwreck-off-greece-2023-06-14/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=Newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=Daily-Briefing&amp;utm_term=061423" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reuters</a>. The vessel was 65-100 feet long and mostly carried young men from Egypt, Syria, and Pakistan. The shipwreck is the deadliest in Greece since 2015.
The Greek Coast Guard said the boat was first spotted late Tuesday by the E.U. border agency Frontex in international waters. Italian authorities alerted Greece of the boat’s presence, and the Greek Coast Guard approached the vessel and offered help. The Coast Guard said the migrants “refused assistance and stated their desire to continue their voyage.” A few hours later, the vessel veered from side to side before capsizing around 2:00 am. After the boat sank, the Coast Guard and military began a “wide-ranging search and rescue operation” looking for survivors and recovering the dead.
Greece is one of the <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/maryroeloffs/2023/06/14/at-least-78-dead-in-worst-shipwreck-off-greece-in-years/?sh=159da68035e4">main routes</a> into Europe for migrants from the Middle East, Asia, and North Africa with its close proximity to Turkey. During the 2015-2016 immigration crisis, nearly 5.2 million migrants reached European shores, with 857,000 arriving in Greece. 
“The shipwreck brings to the fore once again, in the most tragic way, the need to dismantle the international smuggling rings that endanger the lives of migrants,” Greece’s Migration Ministry <a href="https://migration-gov-gr.translate.goog/en/deltio-typoy-ypoyrgeio-metanasteysis-kai-asyloy/?_x_tr_sl=auto&amp;_x_tr_tl=en&amp;_x_tr_hl=en&amp;_x_tr_pto=wapp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Wednesday.

United Nations data <a href="https://data2.unhcr.org/en/situations/mediterranean" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shows</a> that 71,000 people arrived in southern Europe via sea this year, with nearly 6,500 arriving in Greece. More than 1,000 have died taking these sea routes this year. The country also took in 70,000 Ukrainian refugees in 2022.
Immigration was a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/21/world/europe/greece-elections-migrants-mitsotakis.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">key issue</a> in the 2023 Greek Legislative Election. Mitsotakis defended his strict immigration policies, including <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/14/world/europe/greece-migrants-abandoning-sea.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expelling</a> asylum seekers by sea and sending them to Turkey.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a confidential report this week that 2.5 tons of natural uranium have gone missing from a site in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/libya" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Libya</a> that is not controlled by the government.
Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/tons-uranium-missing-libyan-site-iaea-tells-member-states-2023-03-15/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the U.N. nuclear watchdog informed member states of the news this week, according to documents viewed by the publication.
A statement from IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said that the inspection was supposed to happen last year, but &#8220;had to be postponed because of the security situation in the region.&#8221;
Investigators &#8220;found that 10 drums containing approximately 2.5 tons of natural uranium in the form of UOC (uranium ore concentrate) previously declared by (Libya) &#8230; as being stored at that location were not present at the location,&#8221; the report said.
&#8220;The loss of knowledge about the present location of nuclear material may present a radiological risk, as well as nuclear security concerns,&#8221; the report said.
Officials said that investigations were already underway to locate the missing nuclear materials. The name and location of the site were not revealed, although officials said that getting to it required &#8220;complex logistics.”
Natural uranium contains approximately 0.7% uranium-235, the isotope needed to produce nuclear weapons, according to the <a href="https://www.nrc.gov/materials/fuel-cycle-fac/ur-enrichment.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Committee</a>. In order to make nuclear weapons, the uranium has to undergo an enrichment process to increase the concentration of uranium-235.
Natural uranium poses &#8220;little radioactive danger because it gives off very small amounts of radiation,&#8221; the CDC says.
Natural uranium is also <a href="https://fas.org/blogs/security/2008/03/finally-some-sense-about-uranium-and-dirty-bombs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not</a> a threat for making dirty bombs, according to Ivan Oelrich. Ph.D., the Senior Fellow for the Strategic Security Program at the Federation of American Scientists.

Prosecutors told the man accused of crafting the bomb used in the deadliest terror attack ever to take place in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/united-kingdom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">United Kingdom</a> that they will not push for the death penalty if he is convicted.
Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi, a Libyan intelligence operative, appeared in a federal court in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/washington-d-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington, D.C.</a>, on Monday in connection with the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 that killed 270 people, according to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63946772" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BBC</a>. Mas’ud’s alleged bomb detonated onboard the doomed plane as it was flying over Lockerbie, Scotland, en route to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York</a>, downing the flight and killing everyone on board as well as 11 local residents on the ground.
Mas’ud is the first person to be tried in the United States of a crime related to the 1988 terror attack. Family members of some of the victims of the downed flight appeared in the courtroom. Flight 103’s victims came from 21 different countries. Of the 270 killed, 190 were Americans.
Officials extradited Mas’ud to the U.S. over the weekend from Libya where he was being held on charges in an unrelated case. It is not clear how Mas’ud ended up in U.S. authorities’ hands from Libya, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/12/11/lockerbie-bombing-suspect-masud/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Washington Post</a>.
Mas’ud is facing three charges in connection with the terror attack, including destruction of an aircraft resulting in death. Prosecutor Erik Kenerson told the court that he would not be seeking the death penalty in the case, despite it being an accepted sentence for the crimes Mas’ud is facing. In 1988 when the crime was committed, the death penalty would not have been a recommended sentence, Kenerson said, so he would not seek it in 2022, according to <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/pan-103-bombing-case-suspect-appears-court/story?id=95066207" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABC News</a>.
“His actions killed all 259 passengers and crew on board the aircraft and 11 people on the ground in Lockerbie,” Kenerson said. “Countless families have never fully recovered as a result of his actions and never will fully recover.”
The U.S. charged Mas’ud for his alleged role in the 1988 attack in December 2020 while the Justice Department was still headed by former Attorney General Bill Barr.
“These charges are the product of decades of hard work by investigators and prosecutors who have remained resolute in their dogged pursuit of justice for our citizens, the citizens of the United Kingdom, and the citizens of the other 19 countries that were murdered by terrorists operating on behalf of the former Muamar Qaddafi regime when they attacked Pan Am Flight 103,” Barr said in a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/former-senior-libyan-intelligence-officer-and-bomb-maker-muamar-qaddafi-regime-charged" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> at the time.
“As to all the victims and the families, we cannot take away your pain from your loss, but we can seek justice for you,” he continued. “Our message to other terrorists around the world is this – you will not succeed – if you attack Americans, no matter where you are, no matter how long it takes, you will be pursued to the ends of the earth until justice is done.”
Flight 103 was blown apart as it traveled from London to New York City. The wreckage from the commercial aircraft plummeted to the ground over Lockerbie and “destroyed an entire city block where homes had peacefully stood just minutes earlier,” according to the Department of Justice. At the time, the bombing was considered the largest terror attack ever carried out against either the U.S. or the U.K. until the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/libya-has-nearly-200-million-gold-safe-theres-only-joshua-yasmeh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Libyan man</a> suspected of making the bomb that took down a commercial flight over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, killing 270 people, is in U.S. custody after more than three decades, authorities said Sunday.
Details involving Abu Agila Mohammad Mas&#8217;ud Kheir Al-Marimi’s handover by Libyan officials were not divulged, but he is due to appear in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia as early as this week. Some 190 of the victims were Americans.
&#8220;The United States has taken custody of alleged Pan Am flight 103 bombmaker Abu Agila Mohammad Masud Kheir Al-Marimi,&#8221; a spokesperson for the Department of Justice said in a statement.
Families of those killed in the bombing have been informed of the arrest, according to Scotland&#8217;s Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
&#8220;Scottish prosecutors and police, working with UK Government and U.S. colleagues, will continue to pursue this investigation, with the sole aim of bringing those who acted along with Al Megrahi to justice,&#8221; the office said in a statement.
Pan Am Flight 103 was brought down on Dec. 21, 1988, by a bomb placed in the Boeing 747’s cargo hold in what remains the single deadliest terror attack in the history of the United Kingdom. The plane had departed London and was en route to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
Among the dead Americans were 35 students from Syracuse University in New York who were returning home for Christmas after a semester studying abroad. In addition to those aboard the plane, 11 people on the ground were killed.

Kara Weipz, president of the group Victims of Pan Am Flight 103 sister of a man who died in the attack, said Masud&#8217;s arrest was &#8220;an amazing feat for the families, and finally justice for our loved ones who were innocent.&#8221;
&#8220;To have one of the people responsible for the murder of our loved ones stand trial in the U.S. is one of the most important things to the families and to all of us,&#8221; Weipz said. &#8220;The amount of people involved — we kept it on the forefront of six administrations.&#8221;
Masud was a Libyan intelligence operative who allegedly carried out the attack on the orders of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who in 2003 agreed to a $2.7 billion settlement that provided $10 million to each of the victims’ families. As part of the deal, Libya was removed from the U.S. list of governments that supported terrorism.
Gaddafi was killed in a 2011 uprising after leading the oil-rich nation for more than four decades. After going on the run, he was caught by an angry mob as he hid in a drainage pipe, sodomized with a bayonet, and shot to death in a grim killing recorded on cellphone video.
Two years ago, then-Attorney General William Barr announced Masud, who was then being held in Libya, had been charged with the destruction of an aircraft resulting in death and destruction of a vehicle by means of an explosive resulting in death after Libyan authorities had arrested an interrogated him.
&#8220;Let there be no mistake, no amount of time or distance will stop the United States and our Scottish partners in pursuing justice in this case,” Barr said at the time.

For Barr, the arrest represented unfinished business from an investigation he had helped lead during his first stint as attorney general under former President George H.W. Bush.
Barr said Libyan authorities had provided a copy of their interview with Masud in which he admitted that he built the bomb with two co-conspirators.
&#8220;At long last this man responsible for killing Americans and many others will be subject to justice for his crimes,&#8221; Barr said.
Masud, who has also been linked to a 1986 bombing at a Berlin disco that killed three people, allegedly worked with Libyan intelligence operatives to build the bomb, which was hidden in a cassette player among clothes packed into a suitcase.
Libyan Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, convicted in 2001 for his role in the bombing, is the only person brought to justice in the attack to date. He was sentenced by a Scottish court to 27 years in prison but was released in 2009 after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. He died in Libya three years later.

Congressional Democrats, who seemed <del>willfully naive</del> blissfully unaware of then-President Barack Obama&#8217;s rather expansive interpretation of the War Powers Resolution of 1973 during his strategically disastrous 2011 operation to oust Libyan strongman Muammar al-Qaddafi, suddenly seem to care an awful lot about constitutional norms and separation of powers principles again.
Intellectual inconsistency much?
Specifically, Speaker Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s House of Representatives is <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/08/politics/war-powers-act-explainer-iran/index.html">debating today</a> whether to congressionally impose War Powers Resolution limitations upon President Donald Trump&#8217;s unilateral ability to ratchet up militancy with the Islamic Republic of Iran. In their crusade to hamstring the president&#8217;s conduct of his foreign policy vis-à-vis the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hammer-iranian-revolution-forty-years-old-stand-josh-hammer">jihadist</a> Iranian regime, House Democrats have even found some libertarian-leaning <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mike-lee-senator-utah-lambasts-trump-briefing-soleimani-strike-worst-hes-received-on-military-issue/">Republican allies</a>.
But this exercise is misguided, because the War Powers Resolution is, and always has been, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304186404576389474268093278">unconstitutional</a>.
Let&#8217;s start with what the War Powers Resolution, which was passed during the closing stanzas of the Vietnam War, actually does. The <a href="https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/93/hjres542/text">statute</a> requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces abroad, and it precludes deployed U.S. forces from remaining engaged in &#8220;hostilities&#8221; abroad for more than 60 days without an affirmative authorization for the use of military force that has passed through Congress. At the time, President Richard Nixon vetoed the bill on constitutional grounds, <a href="https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/exhibitions/artifact/president-richard-nixons-letter-house-representatives-regarding-his-veto-war">arguing</a> that the measure would define presidential war powers &#8220;in ways which would strictly limit his constitutional authority.&#8221; Nonetheless, a two-thirds majority in each congressional chamber overrode the veto.
Nixon&#8217;s veto was correct.
The Constitution famously divides foreign affairs powers between the legislative and executive branches. Among other enumerated powers in <a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/articlei#section8">Article I, Section 8</a>, Congress has the ability to &#8220;declare War,&#8221; &#8220;raise and support Armies,&#8221; &#8220;provide and maintain a Navy,&#8221; &#8220;make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces,&#8221; &#8220;provide for calling forth the Militia,&#8221; and &#8220;provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia.&#8221;
By contrast, <a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/articleii">Article II</a> of the Constitution provides that &#8220;[t]he President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.&#8221; The very first clause of Article II also vests the president with &#8220;[t]he executive Power&#8221; — meaning a &#8220;residual&#8221; foreign affairs power that encompasses all those powers not expressly delegated to Congress in Article I, Section 8. As legal scholars Saikrishna B. Ramsey <a href="https://www.yalelawjournal.org/article/the-executive-power-over-foreign-affairs">persuasively argued</a> in a 2001 Yale Law Journal article, 18th century English common law had an &#8220;ordinary &#8230; meaning of executive power&#8221; that &#8220;included foreign affairs power.&#8221;
A careful, line-by-line overview of Congress&#8217;s enumerated powers does not actually provide a legislative means that could feasibly justify the War Powers Resolution. The most likely candidate is the Declare War Clause, but that provision happens to be woefully misunderstood by many lawyers and politicians across the ideological spectrum. As John Yoo <a href="https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=426862">compellingly laid out</a> in a 2003 University of Chicago Law Review article, &#8220;[t]he Declare War Clause simply confers on Congress juridical power to both define the United States&#8217;s legal relations with other countries and trigger domestic constitutional authorities during wartime.&#8221; It is the president of the United States, under Article II&#8217;s Commander in Chief Clause, who is actually responsible for initiating and conducting hostilities. Congress can then intervene to halt a president it views as a reckless warmonger using the manifold tools it does have at its disposal: Decreasing the size of the Pentagon&#8217;s budget, going line item-by-line item and removing various offensive-oriented materiel from the Department of Defense&#8217;s arsenal, or using its more general power of the purse to defund a war effort in its entirety (as eventually happened with Vietnam).
This interpretation of the Declare War Clause should not be nearly as controversial as it is. At the 1787 constitutional convention, the Framers actually conscientiously substituted out &#8220;make War&#8221; with &#8220;declare War.&#8221; In so doing, James Madison <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/01/qasem-soleimani-strike-president-trump-has-constitution-precedent-on-his-side/">famously explained</a> to Elbridge Gerry that it was imperative to leave to the president the &#8220;<a href="http://press-pubs.uchicago.edu/founders/documents/a1_8_11s4.html">power to repel sudden attacks</a>.&#8221; This ought to make a great deal of sense; as Alexander Hamilton would explain only six months after the constitutional convention in <a href="https://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/fed70.asp">The Federalist No. 70</a>, &#8220;[d]ecision, activity, secrecy, and despatch will generally characterize the proceedings of one man in a much more eminent degree than the proceedings of any greater number.&#8221;
Finally, in Article I, Section 10, the Constitution precludes a state from &#8220;engag[ing] in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.&#8221; The Framers were therefore aware of multiple verbs — &#8220;make&#8221; and &#8220;engage&#8221; — that could have clearly conveyed the meaning of an initiation of hostilities. But they didn&#8217;t use those words, and they didn&#8217;t use them for a reason. The Framers understood that there was great merit to leaving decisions such as the commencement of hostilities to one man, and not to a fractious Congress.
To reiterate, Congress already has a number of tools at its disposal to push back against a crusading commander-in-chief. As Andrew McCarthy <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/war-powers-resolution-vote-trump-andrew-mccarthy">wrote</a> this week at Fox News, &#8220;No statute is needed to provide Congress with the power to frustrate unauthorized presidential war-making. The Constitution empowers the legislature to do so by simply refusing to appropriate funds for military action.&#8221; But the Declare War Clause means something fundamentally different than what many believe it does.
The War Powers Resolution may or may not be good policy. But it does not matter, because it runs afoul of the Constitution&#8217;s carefully calibrated separation of powers.

Remember <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/4739/hillarysoqualified-trends-here-are-7-reasons-shes-aaron-bandler">Benghazi</a>? The scandal has been out of the limelight for a while now that the election is over, but it is still an important issue since we still don&#8217;t know what exactly happened that night. Now a new report reveals that Hillary Clinton&#8217;s State Department pressured security contractors to stay quiet about the lackluster security at the American consulate in Benghazi.
Jerry Torres and Brad Owens, who work for the security contracting firm Torres Advanced Solutions, recently told <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/09/13/clinton-state-department-silenced-them-on-benghazi-security-lapses-contractors-say.html">Fox News</a> that in 2012, a miniscule security contracting firm called The Blue Mountain Group was awarded the bid to provide security to the Benghazi consulate, even though they put in less money than Torres Advanced Solutions. It was also the first time Blue Mountain had ever been given &#8220;a diplomatic security contract&#8221; in a &#8220;high threat&#8221; area.
Naturally, a security firm that small and inexperienced was insufficient in providing security to a region overrun by Islamists &#8212; especially since they provided unarmed guards as security &#8212; so the State Department eventually realized they needed to beef up their security. They asked Torres Advanced Solutions to take the helm at the consulate on August 31, 2012. The firm agreed, but Torres pointed out they would need around 2-3 weeks for everything to be ready.
The Benghazi attacks occurred less than two weeks later.
&#8220;There was nothing we could&#8217;ve done about it,&#8221; Owens told Fox News. &#8220;If we&#8217;d had one month warning &#8230; who knows what might&#8217;ve happened.&#8221;
Torres added he was shocked that the Obama administration initially blamed the attacks on a YouTube video and that in 2013 he was told by State Department contracting officer Jan Visintainer that anyone in his security contracting firm &#8220;should not speak to the media, should not speak to any officials with respect to the Benghazi program.&#8221;
What was even more bizarre was that Visintainer also thought that &#8220;guards should not be armed at U.S. embassies.&#8221;
&#8220;She said that they weren&#8217;t required in Benghazi,&#8221; Torres told Fox News. &#8220;So I was kind of confused about that. And she said that she would like my support in saying that if that came up.&#8221;
Torres said that he gave no response to her request.
Owens and Torres told Fox News they were perturbed that a lot of the same State Department bureaucrats who were responsible for the failures of Benghazi remain entrenched in the department, but they remain hopeful that the Trump administration will weed those bureaucrats out.
The report does shed some light on how the State Department dropped the ball on hiring a small security contracting firm to provide security at the consulate, and they didn&#8217;t realize how bad it was until it was too late. There are still questions that need to be answered &#8212; mainly what Clinton and Barack Obama were doing during the attacks &#8212; but at least now we have a little more information as to why four Americans died that night.
The Trump administration should be doing more to figure out what happened that night and get rid of the bureaucrats responsible for the poor security at the Benghazi consulate.

Report: Hillary’s State Department Pressured Contractors To Be Silent On Lackluster Benghazi Security

Armed soldiers were deployed to patrol the streets of the United Kingdom following an announcement by Prime Minister Theresa May that the country’s threat level had been elevated from “severe” to “critical,” the highest level possible. As May herself noted in an address to the nation following an emergency Cobra meeting with her cabinet, British intelligence services have reason to believe that another attack may be imminent.
“[I]t is a possibility we cannot ignore that there is a wider group of individuals linked to this incident,” <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/may/23/salman-abedi-police-race-to-establish-if-manchester-suicide-bomber-acted-alone">said</a> the prime minister. “The police have asked for authorisation from the secretary of state for defence to deploy a number of military personnel in support of their armed officers.”
The military is tasked with securing vulnerable key sites throughout the country, including concert venues, sports arenas, and government buildings. According to the prime minister, the military will operate under the command of the police.
“This means some armed police officers guarding events will be replaced by soldiers in an operation codenamed Temperer. It is the first time that the operation, which was first revealed in 2015, has been put into effect,” <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/may/23/salman-abedi-police-race-to-establish-if-manchester-suicide-bomber-acted-alone">reports</a> The Guardian. “The plan is believed to allow up to 3,800 troops to be deployed in support of the police, replacing armed officers at many sites to free them up for patrols in key areas.”
Already, around 1,000 soldiers have been deployed to major cities across the country. Home Secretary Amber Rudd stated that another 2,800 troops are being deployed to patrol the streets, placing the total at 3,800. Most are tasked with guarding the capital city. Since the Westminster terrorist attack in March, London has been the site of regular police patrols and security reinforcements. But with the latest deployment of troops, London has become a virtual fortress. Parliament will take no visitors or tourists for the time being as police track down Manchester suicide bomber Salman Abedi’s jihadist associates.
While London may be fortified, other sites appear vulnerable to possible attacks. Indeed, law enforcement personnel in Manchester (where Monday night’s horrific attack occurred), Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield, Newcastle and other major cities have been stretched thin since then-Home Secretary Theresa May announced cuts to police departments. Today, as prime minister, May is promising law enforcement all the resources they may need in a tragic play of irony brought upon by ubiquitous specter of jihad.
Police have already made at least five arrests near Manchester. Working with the United Nations-backed semi-Islamist militia in Libya, British intelligence services have also managed to compel Libyan security forces to detain the suicide bomber’s father and brother in a raid in Tripoli.
Despite a series of successful arrests, Abedi’s terrorist network still looms large. U.K. officials believe that the yet-to-be captured bomb maker behind the explosive device used in the Manchester attack may be planning another attack.

Against the backdrop of vigils mourning the deaths of children as young as eight, British police are hunting down anyone who may be connected to Monday night’s massacre in Manchester.
All available evidence suggests that 22-year-old suicide bomber Salman Abedi wasn’t working alone. ISIS has already taken responsibility for the attack, calling the attacker a “soldier of the caliphate.” But terrorism analysts have been noticing a series of inconsistencies in the statements released by the Islamic State in the hours after Abedi detonated his explosive device, killing himself for the cause of jihad against the “crusaders” and “polytheists” (terms ISIS used to label the prepubescent, non-Muslim victims).

Here’s what we know so far:
Abedi was almost certainly working with some sort of jihadi network. Both the sophistication of the bomb used in the attack and the logistics of the attack indicate that far more than one person was involved in the planning.
Most of disturbing of all, the bomb maker behind the attack still appears to be on the loose.
“Intelligence services now believe that Salman Abedi, who detonated the nail bomb in the foyer of the venue, was a ‘mule’ using a device made by someone else,” <a href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/manchester-arena-bomb-maker-search-13086027?service=responsive">explains</a> The Manchester Evening News.
Ultimately, the bomb make may be far more lethal than Abedi himself.

There&#8217;s extensive investigations going on and activity taking place across Greater Manchester as we speak.&#8221;
Police have carried out a series of raids targeting Abedi’s apparent network as investigators gather information from the suicide bomber’s residence. “Four men were arrested on Wednesday — three in the city center and one in Wigan, a town to the northwest — bringing the total number of people in custody to five, including Mr. Abedi’s older brother,” <a href="In%20Libya,%20Mr.%20Abedi%25E2%2580%2599s%20father%20was%20arrested%20by%20a%20militia,%20the%20Special%20Deterrence%20Forces,%20which%20said%20it%20had%20also%20detained%20Mr.%20Abedi%25E2%2580%2599s%20younger%20brother,%20Hashem%20Abedi,%2020.">notes</a> The New York Times. “In Libya, Mr. Abedi’s father was arrested by a militia, the Special Deterrence Forces, which said it had also detained Mr. Abedi’s younger brother, Hashem Abedi, 20.”
According to Libyan security forces, Abedi’s younger brother Hashem “was fully aware of the details” of the Manchester attack. Not only did Hashem confess “to his presence in Britain during the preparation period” of the attack, but he may have been planning another attack himself, added the Libyans in a Facebook post detailing the arrest.

Prior to being arrested himself, Abedi’s father reportedly denied that his children were behind any attacks, claiming that they know better than to target innocents.
But British intelligence believes that jihad was a family affair.
In fact, Abedi’s father admitted that his son recently went to Libya before returning to his native Manchester. The son of Libyan Muslim immigrants, Abedi was known to British law enforcement prior to the attack. However, intelligence services eventually deemed him to be a low-risk threat.
“Abedi was a terrorist suspect in the U.K., <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/world/mi5.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MI5</a> were aware of him,” Robin Simcox, a terrorism and national security analyst at <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/the-heritage-foundation.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Heritage Foundation</a> <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/International/portrait-emerges-salman-abedi-suspected-manchester-bomber/story?id=47594845">told</a> ABC News. “They were aware that he posed a potential threat but they didn’t think he posed an imminent threat that he proved himself to do in Manchester.
The “known wolf” profile is becoming a cliché at this point. From Brussels to Paris to Manchester, European security officials have dropped the ball, allowing suspected jihadists to operate freely in the days and weeks leading up to major terror attacks.
Indeed, Abedi’s travel itinerary alone paints the portrait of a jihadist planning to carry out an imminent attack on British soil.
According to French interior minister Gerard Collomb, Abedi was known to have links to the Islamic State. How do the French know this? French intelligence believe that Abedi may have not only traveled to Libya, where the Islamic State once had a foothold in the port city of Sirte, but visited Syria as well, where ISIS has established its de facto capital.

The Obama administration just moved to dismiss charges against an arms dealer who threatened to expose Hillary Clinton&#8217;s role in Libyan arms deal that could have damaged her presidential run.
<a href="http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/marc-turi-libyan-rebels-hillary-clinton-229115#ixzz4MDKpJ46b">Politico</a> provides a damning report on the choice by the Department of Justice to suddenly dismiss the charges it had brought against arms dealer Marc Turi over his involvement in an illegal arms deal with Libyan rebels. After Turi threatened to take down Clinton, the Obama DOJ apparently lost interest in pursuing the case&#8212;the trial for which was scheduled to begin on election day&#8212;any further. 
&#8220;Lawyers for the Justice Department on Monday filed a motion in federal court in Phoenix to drop the case against the arms dealer, an American named Marc Turi, whose lawyers also signed the motion,&#8221; reports Politico.&#8221;The deal averts a trial that threatened to cast additional scrutiny on Hillary Clinton&#8217;s private emails as Secretary of State, and to expose reported Central Intelligence Agency attempts to arm rebels fighting Libyan leader Moammar Qadhafi.&#8221;
The DOJ&#8217;s decision, Turi&#8217;s camp says, was obviously motivated by the Obama administration&#8217;s desire to protect Clinton. 
&#8220;They don&#8217;t want this stuff to come out because it will look really bad for Obama and Clinton just before the election,&#8221; said one of Turi&#8217;s associates. 
The entire case against Turi from the beginning, his adviser Robert Stryk, says, was all about protecting Clinton for her role in the ultimately fatal mishandling of the Benghazi consulate. &#8220;The U.S. government spent millions of dollars, went all over the world to bankrupt him, and destroyed his life &#8212; all to protect Hillary Clinton&#8217;s crimes,&#8221; said Stryk. 
The deal allows Turi to get off scot-free just so long as he abides by an agreement to refrain from U.S-regulated arms dealing for four years (and keep his mouth shut about Clinton&#8217;s culpability in the Benghazi tragedy).
The Obama administration has made one thing crystal clear this year: The law simply does not apply to a Democratic presidential candidate.

According to an <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/09/12/blamed-for-benghazi-filmmaker-jailed-after-attack-now-lives-in-poverty-fear.html">exclusive report</a> by Fox News, &#8220;Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the Coptic Christian whose short video &#8216;The Innocence of Muslims&#8217; was initially faulted for sparking the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack at U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya, is now living in a homeless shelter run by First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif. He has served time in prison, been shamed publicly by the White House and threatened with death.&#8221;
Hours after reports of the Benghazi attacks emerged, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was one of the first White House officials to blame Nakoula&#8217;s fringe YouTube video for motivating the attackers. 
Here&#8217;s the <a href="http://www.state.gov/secretary/20092013clinton/rm/2012/09/197628.htm">statement</a> she released via an official channel of the US State Department at 10 PM EST on September 11, 2012:

Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.

Despite unequivocal evidence provided by US intelligence mapping out the premeditated motives of the Islamist Benghazi attackers, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton chose to repeat this canard blaming the video at a memorial service for the Benghazi victims.

Joined by Susan Rice (who would later resign as US ambassador to the UN only to reemerge from the fire of lies as Obama&#8217;s National Security Adviser), Clinton&#8217;s initial misrepresentation of what occurred in Beghazi would go on to ruin Nakoula&#8217;s life.
Each falsehood deployed by the Obama administration&#8217;s Soviet-style propaganda messaging campaign to obfuscate its failure to keep US embassy personnel safe would add more ammunition to the salvo of threats standing in the way of the Coptic Christian filmmaker&#8217;s ability to lead a normal life. Since then, Nakoula&#8217;s has been turned upside down. &#8220;For the past three years, Nakoula has been living at the homeless shelter on church grounds,&#8221; reports Fox News.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t believe in democracy anymore,&#8221; Nakoula told Fox. &#8220;I don&#8217;t think there is such a thing as freedom of speech.&#8221;
In late 2012, Nakoula was sent to jail for allegedly violating the term of his probation after being charged with bank and credit fraud. Prosecutors claimed that the very act of posting the video to YouTube was a violation of his probation terms. 
After a brief stint in jail, Nakoula still remained a man with a target on his back. The Coptic Christian filmaker&#8217;s characterization of the Prophet Mohammad in his video elicited an onslaught of serious death threats and fanatically angry messages. 
And yet, Nakoula has no regrets. 
&#8220;If I could go back, I would do it again,&#8221; he told Fox as he sat in a jail cell three years ago. &#8220;Everybody gets hurt in this culture. We need the world free of this culture. We have to fight it.&#8221;
