Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott said on Sunday that the state is actively going after professors at public universities who push leftist ideologies over important studies.
Abbott made the comment in response to a University of Texas at Austin professor getting dismissed from an administrative post over &#8220;ideological differences,&#8221; a move that was <a href="https://www.axios.com/local/austin/2025/10/15/university-of-texas-mark-artman">reported</a> by Axios last week. In a <a href="https://x.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1979953044977598674">post</a> on X sharing the Axios story, Abbott wrote, &#8220;Texas is targeting professors who are more focused on pushing leftist ideologies rather than preparing students to lead our nation.&#8221;
&#8220;We must end indoctrination and return to education fundamentals at all levels of education,&#8221; he added.
After being dismissed, tenured psychology professor Art Markman said on LinkedIn he’s preparing for “a new chapter” in his career. He had been at the University of Texas for 27 years, eventually becoming senior vice provost for academic affairs. Markman is also a co-host of the science podcast, &#8220;<a href="https://www.npr.org/podcasts/381443482/two-guys-on-your-head">Two Guys on Your Head</a>.&#8221; He did not say what &#8220;ideological differences&#8221; led to his dismissal.
The Daily Wire reached out to the University of Texas at Austin, seeking comment.
Markman&#8217;s dismissal came as the University of Texas System, which consists of 14 academic and health institutions across the state, launched a review of gender identity and LGBTQ studies, the Austin American-Statesman <a href="https://www.statesman.com/news/education/article/ut-system-audits-gender-courses-gop-targets-21075365.php">reported</a>. The probe will look into courses at all 14 of the system&#8217;s institutions.

&#8220;The U.T. System has been reviewing courses on gender identity taught at all U.T. institutions to ensure compliance and alignment with applicable law and state and federal guidance, and to make sure any courses that are taught on U.T. campuses are aligned with the direction and priorities of the Board of Regents,&#8221; the University of Texas System said in a statement. &#8220;This review will be discussed at the November Board of Regents’ meeting.&#8221;
Pressure has ramped up on Texas universities to gut courses that include diversity, equity, inclusion, and radical gender theory as President Donald Trump takes action against schools that push leftist ideologies.
Texas A&amp;M, which is not part of the University of Texas System, has also faced controversy in recent weeks after Dr. Melissa McCoul, an English professor, was filmed in class pushing pro-LGBT talking points and telling a student who opposed her to leave a lecture. The videos showing McCoul spouting radical gender theory in a children&#8217;s literature class at the university were obtained by Republican Texas Rep. Brian Harrison and first <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-texas-am-student-booted-from-lecture-after-objecting-to-professor-pushing-radical-gender-theory">reported</a> by The Daily Wire.
Harrison then went on a crusade accusing Texas A&amp;M of leftist bias and pushed for the university&#8217;s president, Mark Welsh to step down or be fired. Welsh&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-am-president-to-resign-after-leftist-politics-infiltrated-university-childrens-lit-course">resignation</a> was announced less than two weeks later.
Harrison appears unconvinced that Texas is going far enough to address LGBT courses at public universities. The state lawmaker <a href="https://x.com/brianeharrison/status/1979965546637472043">responded</a> to Abbott&#8217;s post on Sunday, saying that the University of Texas System is still promoting &#8220;LGBTQ Studies.&#8221; The University of Texas <a href="https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/wgss/courses/">offered</a> numerous courses on LGBT topics this fall, including &#8220;Queer Eastern Europe,&#8221; &#8220;Queer Latinx Aesthetics,&#8221; and &#8220;Black Queer Art Worlds.&#8221;

The Pentagon has come out against a new Netflix series aimed at promoting LGBT themes. “Boots,” based on a memoir titled &#8220;The Pink Marine,&#8221; is <a href="https://www.netflix.com/title/81427990">about</a> a gay “bullied teen” who “impulsively” joins the U.S. Marine Corps and “finds new purpose — and unexpected brotherhood — with his motley team of fellow recruits.”
Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson released a statement on the series, saying a person’s sexuality is not relevant in this administration’s effort to strengthen our military.
&#8220;Under President Trump and Secretary [Pete] Hegseth, the U.S. military is getting back to restoring the warrior ethos. Our standards across the board are elite, uniform, and sex neutral because the weight of a rucksack or a human being doesn&#8217;t care if you&#8217;re a man, a woman, gay, or straight,&#8221; a statement given to Entertainment Weekly <a href="https://ew.com/pentagon-slams-netflix-gay-military-drama-boots-11831105">said</a>.
Kingsley confirmed that officials &#8220;will not compromise our standards to satisfy an ideological agenda, unlike Netflix whose leadership consistently produces and feeds woke garbage to their audience and children.&#8221;
Hegseth made waves during a September speech to his top military leaders after sharing new directives for the War Department, including the news that every military branch will ensure that requirements for combat positions return to “the highest male standard.”

“Boots,” which stars Miles Heizer and Vera Farmiga, premiered October 9 and has been ranking in Netflix’s top 10 viewed charts ever since. The series is critical of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy from the 90s that required recruits to keep their sexual identity secret.

Just two months after making headlines for questioning a same-sex kiss scene in the Disney film “Lightyear,” Snoop Dogg has fully caved to the progressive mob. The 53-year-old rapper just announced that he teamed up with the LGBT activist organization GLAAD and wrote a new song with gay pride themes for his children’s series.
The recording artist, whose legal name is Calvin Broadus Jr., worked with GLAAD to promote “Spirit Day” for LGBT teens on Thursday. He teamed up with The Voice contestant Jeremy Beloate on “Love Is Love,” a song highlighted in the latest episode of Snoop’s animated children’s series Doggyland on YouTube.

“This is a program we’ve been doing for years where we involve kids,” he added. “These are things that kids have questions about so now hopefully we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love.”
The rapper went on, “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is … being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers, whatever it is, love is the key.”
This is a drastic about-face for Snoop, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/snoop-dogg-calls-out-hollywood-for-lgbt-themes-in-childrens-films-theyre-putting-it-everywhere">criticized the inclusion</a> of same-sex couples in children’s programming in August after watching the movie “Lightyear” with his grandkids.
“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere,” Snoop said before referencing the 2022 Disney film, which featured a same-sex couple. 
“They’re like, ‘She had a baby with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’” he went on.
The rapper said he thought, &#8220;&#8216;Oh sh**, I didn’t come in for this sh**. I just came to watch the g**damn movie.’” But his grandson wouldn’t let it go, and said, &#8220;They just said, she and she had a baby … they’re both women. How does she have a baby?” 
Snoop said the whole thing “f***ed me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of sh** that I don’t have an answer for.”
“It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this? … These are kids,” he added. “We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
Many of Snoop’s followers were furious over the comments and accused him of defecting to the conservative side, especially considering that he had performed at a celebratory event before President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

When “What is a Woman?” premiered on June 1, 2022, the first day of Pride Month back when most companies still celebrated, it launched a revolution. The documentary film featuring a simple question broke Daily Wire streaming records and sparked a national debate. The title became a rallying cry for everyone fed up with the madness of radical left-wing gender theory. 
From the opening scenes, Matt Walsh set out to do exactly what our community knows best: ask a pointed question and refuse to accept a nonsensical answer. The Daily Wire podcast host confronted academics, activists, therapists, and everyday people who struggled to define the word &#8220;woman.&#8221; The result called into question all those previously taboo “truths” that radicals had been trying to mainstream for years.
The release wasn’t all sunshine and roses. The Daily Wire’s site was hit by a DDoS cyberattack as critics and trolls tried to shut us down before we could even get started. But that backfired. The documentary premiere became the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-a-cyberattack-tried-to-stop-you-from-watching-matt-walshs-what-is-a-woman">most trafficked live stream</a> in Daily Wire history.
The massive success of “What is a Woman?” was no flash in the pan. One year later, the film exploded again on X when The Daily Wire made it available for free. Leftists melted down over the impact of the film, but ultimately they were left with nothing but an empty defense of a harmful ideology built on lies and intimidation. Normal citizens who were too afraid to speak up before were suddenly emboldened, and they joined Walsh in a chorus that sounded a lot like standing up for what’s right and true.

Actress Kristin Chenoweth addressed the backlash she received from followers after expressing shock and sympathy over the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The 57-year-old star, known for playing the original Glinda in the Broadway musical “Wicked,” discussed what happened and attempted to cater to her fan base while promoting her new Broadway show, “The Queen of Versailles.”
&#8220;I&#8217;m. So. Upset.,&#8221; Chenoweth shared on Instagram after Kirk’s assassination. &#8220;Didn&#8217;t always agree but appreciated some perspectives. What a heartbreak. His young family. I know where he is now. Heaven. But still.&#8221;
NY1 reporter Frank DiLella said during a newly published <a href="https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/on-stage/2025/09/18/ny1-exclusive--kristin-chenoweth-sits-down-with-frank-dilella">interview</a> on Thursday that Chenoweth’s post was met with “mixed reactions.” 
“Mixed? You’re being kind,” the Tony Award-winning star replied, insinuating that the backlash had been substantial.
DiLella mentioned how the actress had a “big LGBTQ+ fan base” and asked what she hoped to “convey” by posting about Kirk, who he described as “controversial” for having views “openly opposed same-sex marriage [and] trans rights.”
“I saw what happened online with my own eyes and I had a human moment of reflection right then,” Chenoweth said, referencing the widely circulated video footage of Kirk being fatally shot at Utah Valley University.
“I came to understand that my comment hurt some folks and that hurt me so badly. I would never,” she continued.
“It’s no secret that I’m a Christian, that I’m a person of faith. It’s also no secret that I am an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and for some, that doesn’t go together. But for me, it always has and it always will.”
Most left-wing celebrities stayed silent on the Kirk killing, but some managed to overcome their partisan views to display moments of humanity. 
Leftist actress Jamie Lee Curtis also got dragged for saying during an appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, “I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith,” as she became emotional.
“Even though I find what his ideas were abhorrent to me, I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith, and I hope whatever ‘connection to God’ means, that he felt it,” Curtis said.
Michael Keaton also commented on Kirk’s assassination, saying, “I’m going to take a minute to say that, regardless of how I probably — not probably — have disagreed with many things he said, Charlie Kirk leaves behind two kids and a wife. You gotta remember that.”

Welsh, a retired four-star U.S. Air Force General who was appointed by former President Barack Obama to be Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force from 2012 to 2016, fired Dr. Melissa McCoul last week, but his actions were not enough to quell some of the outrage over Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s handling of the situation. The university&#8217;s Board of Regents announced on Thursday that Welsh would resign, The New York Times reported.
“President Welsh is a man of honor who has led Texas A&amp;M with selfless dedication,” the university system’s chancellor, Glenn Hegar, said in a statement, adding, “At the same time, we agree that now is the right moment to make a change and to position Texas A&amp;M for continued excellence in the years ahead.”

One student confronted the professor over the leftist ideology, pointing to the Trump administration&#8217;s recent actions to crack down on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the government and public universities. McCoul argued that her teachings on gender identity and gender expression were “biologically true,” adding that she did not believe that the student would be able to stop her from teaching those ideas.
“Because I do have the legal and ethical authority [and] professional expertise in this classroom. It’s time for you to leave,” McCoul told the student in a video that Harrison posted on X.

After the student complained about the LGBT themes in the children’s literature course, Welsh acknowledged that the class content &#8220;did not align with any reasonable expectation of standard curriculum for the course.&#8221; Welsh&#8217;s action to change the course content and fire McCoul, however, only came after an intense public pressure campaign, which was led by Harrison. In a phone call with the student after the complaint had been raised, the Texas A&amp;M president said that the student was trying to &#8220;pick a fight&#8221; and defended teaching LGBT content in other courses as long as it was properly shown on course syllabi.
Welsh&#8217;s move to fire McCoul wasn&#8217;t enough for some people, while the decision enraged others.
“This is about trying to tell faculty members not to teach certain topics,” said Leonard Bright, a professor of public service and administration at Texas A&amp;M, according to the Times. “The rules are clear — we are the experts in our classes, and we get to design our courses.”
After McCoul was fired, Harrison told The Daily Wire, “President Welsh is engaged in a cover up and deserves no credit.”
“He spent the past month protecting this professor, berating the student, dismissing concerns that her constitutional rights were violated when she was kicked out of class, attempting to gaslight the student into believing she was the problem, advocating for even more DEI and LGBTQ courses at A&amp;M, and has been engaged in behavior since his actions were exposed,&#8221; Harrison added. &#8220;He should be fired.”
The Republican state lawmaker celebrated in a post on Thursday after it was reported that Welsh was stepping down.

In a <a href="https://president.tamu.edu/messages/an-update-from-president-mark-a-welsh-iii.html">statement</a> posted on social media and the university’s website, Welsh also announced that the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Head of the English Department would be removed from their administrative positions. The decision comes after videos, obtained and shared by Republican Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison and first reported by The Daily Wire, showed a student confronting Dr. Melissa McCoul over her comments on transgenderism and other LGBT issues during a lecture.
After the student complained about the LGBT themes in the children’s literature course, Welsh said that he worked with students and administrators to make changes and “ensure this course content does not continue in future semesters.” The president, however, stated that despite his directive, Texas A&amp;M “continued to teach content that was inconsistent with the published course description for another course this fall.”
The video of the student’s interaction with the professor was posted on social media after Welsh met with students and administrators to discuss course descriptions and materials.
“This summer, a children’s literature course contained content that did not align with any reasonable expectation of standard curriculum for the course,” said Welsh. “After this issue was raised, college and department leadership worked with students to offer alternative opportunities for students to complete the course, and made changes to ensure this course content does not continue in future semesters. At that time, I made it clear to our academic leadership that course content must match catalog descriptions for each and every one of our course sections.”
“However, I learned late yesterday that despite that directive, the college continued to teach content that was inconsistent with the published course description for another course this fall,” Welsh added. “As a result, I took the above administrative actions, and deans and department heads will conduct an audit of course offerings to ensure they align with the course descriptions.”
In one video, McCoul told the student who called her out that her teaching on transgenderism and other LGBT issues was “biologically true.” The professor then told the student that she had “the legal and ethical authority [and] professional expertise in this classroom” before telling the student, “It’s time for you to leave.”

Slides from the children’s literature class reviewed by The Daily Wire showed that the course material dedicated significant time to sex, gender, and “queerness,” covering the issues with a leftist slant. One slide was titled “Let’s talk gender in children’s lit!” and argued that “Childhood is the time for figuring out how to be a boy, girl, man, woman, or another gender.” The class also required students to read a comic book story titled “Princess Princess Ever After,” which is about two female characters who fall in love, with the book ending with a same-sex wedding.

During the call, Welsh told the student that she was “picking a fight,” and defended courses that focus on LGBT issues.

Texas A&M Fires Leftist Professor Who Lashed Out At Student Over Politics

An LGBT rights attorney has been charged in a federal indictment with lying during a judicial inquiry into whether he and others engaged in &#8220;judge shopping&#8221; in order to challenge Alabama&#8217;s ban on gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth.
Carl Charles, an attorney at Lambda Legal, was charged in an indictment unsealed on Monday in federal court in Montgomery, Alabama, months after a judge took the rare step of sanctioning him and referring him for a criminal investigation.
It marks a rare instance of charges being brought related to a widespread practice among both liberal and conservative litigants to steer cases challenging government policies to ideologically sympathetic judges.
Federal prosecutors secured the indictment amid a broader push by the U.S. Department of Justice under President Donald Trump to investigate providers of medical gender-affirming care for transgender youth.
Charles, who worked in the Justice Department during the tenure of Democratic President Joe Biden, pleaded not guilty on Monday to making a false statement before a court.
Lambda Legal, in a statement, said it stood behind Charles and called the indictment &#8220;an outrageous act of governmental overreach.&#8221; Charles&#8217; lawyers did not respond to requests for comment.
Charles was one of three lawyers sanctioned in February by U.S. District Judge Liles Burke after pursuing legal challenges to Republican-led Alabama&#8217;s ban on the use of puberty-blocking drugs and hormones to treat gender dysphoria in transgender minors.
Burke, a Trump appointee, said the lawyers tried to &#8220;game the system&#8221; by dropping two cases they filed in 2022 when they were assigned to him and then mounting a new legal challenge in a different federal district court in Alabama.
A 2024 report by a three-judge panel that investigated whether the three lawyers engaged in misconduct by attempting to circumvent procedures designed to have cases randomly assigned to a judge found they did so because they viewed Burke as a &#8220;bad draw.&#8221;
The new case was reassigned to Burke, who, despite their concerns, blocked the law&#8217;s enforcement, though an appeals court later reinstated it.
The indictment alleges that during the judicial inquiry, Charles falsely testified that he had not called a judge&#8217;s chambers in April 2022 about the assignment of the lawsuit with which he was involved.
According to Burke&#8217;s ruling, Charles later amended his answers to state he actually called a judge&#8217;s clerk. He apologized for his earlier response.

Harrison told The Daily Wire that the professor&#8217;s teachings were &#8220;transgender indoctrination,&#8221; adding, “This is one of the clearest and most disgusting examples of taxpayer abuse and the weaponization of Texans’ tax money against them, against their values, against their children.”
The Texas Republican sent letters to Governor Greg Abbott, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Education Secretary Linda McMahon, asking for the state and federal government to take action against Texas A&amp;M.
A university official told The Daily Wire, “We are aware of an isolated incident in which a summer course’s content was misaligned with the course curriculum. The college took steps in collaboration with faculty to ensure all course content aligns with the course curriculum moving forward.”
In a recorded phone call between the student and Texas A&amp;M President Mark Welsh, the president stated that the university would review the children’s literature course and discuss providing more detailed descriptions of any classes that teach radical gender theory. A Texas A&amp;M student was told to leave a lecture after pushing back on a professor promoting leftist gender ideas during a children’s literature course. 
Videos shared by Texas Republican State Rep. Brian Harrison on Monday show a student confronting Dr. Melissa McCoul during a children’s literature class, during which McCoul pushed leftist views on sex, gender, and race.
The class, which was aimed at getting students to “think critically about what [children’s literature] can tell us about how we (and others) understand childhood,” devoted considerable attention to sex, gender, and “queerness,” according to slides reviewed by The Daily Wire. One slide titled “Why talk about queerness at all?” denied that the sexual topic was inappropriate for young children. 
The student, who wishes to remain anonymous, told McCoul during one class that the course material went against President Donald Trump’s orders on gender and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“Thinking that homosexuality or queer people are always ‘x-rated’ is an effect of heteronormativity, the idea that heterosexual or straight is normal as well as normative,” the slide reads. 
“This also goes against, not only myself, but a lot of people’s religious beliefs,” the student added. “And so I am not going to participate in this because it’s not legal.” 
McCoul then asked the student if she was “suggesting” that the teaching on gender and sex was “false.” 
“Yes,” the student said.
“You are under a misconception that what I’m saying is illegal,” the professor replied.

Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/defending-women-from-gender-ideology-extremism-and-restoring-biological-truth-to-the-federal-government/">signed</a> an executive order on January 20 declaring, “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.” In another executive order, Trump called DEI policies “illegal,” and the Trump administration has opened <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-dei-universities-investigated-f89dc9ec2a98897577ed0a6c446fae7b">investigations</a> into universities that push DEI programs on their students and faculty. Texas A&amp;M has been <a href="https://www.kbtx.com/2024/09/14/texas-am-awarded-16-million-federal-grants-continue-research-forever-chemicals/">awarded</a> federal <a href="https://houston.innovationmap.com/texas-am-university-tech-waste-2670730689.html">grants</a>, including for its research on “forever chemicals” and its efforts to develop clean energy.

While the federal government has pushed back on DEI and radical leftist gender ideology, Republican-led Texas has fallen behind in putting a stop to radical ideas being promoted at universities, Harrison says.
“I have filed legislation for a long time now to stop taxpayer funding of DEI and transgender indoctrination, and every attempt legislatively to end this is killed by nominal Republicans in the Texas government,” the lawmaker added. 
In another clip, the A&amp;M student tells McCoul, “I held my mouth closed this whole semester about my personal beliefs, but part of my rights is [that] this goes against my religion.” 
“So you are very free to leave, and now is the time to do that,” the professor said. After the confrontation, McCoul asked the class, “Are there other questions I can answer about the sex gender system or non-binary identities?” 
One book required in McCoul’s class was “Princess Princess Ever After,” a comic book story about a princess who is rescued from her tower prison by another princess. The two female characters fall in love, and the book ends with a gay wedding. “Princess Princess Ever After” is <a href="https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Princess-Princess-Ever-After/K-ONeill/9781620107140">written</a> for kids between the ages of 9 and 12, according to a review from lesbian culture website AfterEllen. 
Another slide showed a “Gender Unicorn” graph put together by Trans Student Educational Resources. Yet another slide was titled “Let’s talk gender in children’s lit!” and argued that “Childhood is the time for figuring out how to be a boy, girl, man, woman, or another gender.”  
The student who confronted McCoul about the leftist curriculum raised her concerns with the department head and eventually with Texas A&amp;M President Mark Welsh. Texas A&amp;M administrators then met with McCoul to discuss the class and decided to move McCoul to teach young adult literature instead of children’s literature. 
In a recorded phone call between the student and Welsh, the Texas A&amp;M president stated that the university would review the children’s literature course and discuss providing more detailed descriptions of any classes that teach radical gender theory. Welsh told the student that “there’s not a problem” teaching LGBT literature as long as the university makes it clear it will be part of a class. 
When the student asked President Welsh if any more changes would be made, such as firing McCoul, Welsh accused the student of attempting to “pick a fight,” adding that the university would not punish the professor.

Harrison sent a letter to Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, along with a separate letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Education Secretary Linda McMahon on Monday, calling on the state and federal government to take action against Texas A&amp;M. 
“I have previously referred Texas A&amp;M to the Trump Administration for investigation into discriminatory DEI practices, and I am now expanding that request,” Harrison wrote. “Since the Texas government has not ended this taxpayer-funded liberal indoctrination, I am writing to respectfully request that you or other relevant divisions or agencies take any appropriate action(s) to ensure that Texas universities receiving federal funds are complying with President Trump’s Executive Orders.”

However, according to multiple <a href="https://deadline.com/2025/08/snoop-dogg-my-bad-lightyear-lgbtq-comments-1236502279/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlets</a>, Snoop’s representative denies that the rapper made the apology himself, and also stated that no one on his team has admitted to doing so either. It’s unclear how the comment was posted from his verified account.
The 53-year-old recording artist, whose legal name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., sparked backlash from LGBT activists due to his remarks during an appearance on a recent episode of the “It’s Giving” podcast, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/snoop-dogg-calls-out-hollywood-for-lgbt-themes-in-childrens-films-theyre-putting-it-everywhere">reported</a>.
“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere,” Snoop said before referencing the 2022 Disney film “Lightyear,” which featured a same-sex couple. 
“They’re like, ‘She had a baby with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’” he went on.
The rapper said he thought,” ‘Oh sh**, I didn’t come in for this sh**. I just came to watch the g**damn movie.’” But his grandson wouldn’t let it go, and said,”’ They just said, she and she had a baby … they’re both women. How does she have a baby?’” 
Snoop said the whole thing “f***ed me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of sh** that I don’t have an answer for.”
“It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this? … These are kids,” he added. “We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
“Lightyear” screenwriter Lauren Gunderson defended the storyline after Snoop’s criticisms started circulating on social media. “So. I created the LIGHTYEAR lesbians,” she <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DN21gOmUDwx/?img_index=1">wrote</a> in a statement on Instagram.
“As we wrote early versions of what became LIGHTYEAR, a key character needed a partner, and it was so natural to write ‘she’ instead of ‘he.’ As small as that detail is in the film, I knew the representational effect it could have. Small line, big deal. I was elated that they kept it,” Gunderson went on. 
“I’m proud of it. To infinity. Love is love… I was proud to see a happy queer couple (even for a few seconds) onscreen. I know they got a lot of sh** for this inclusion, but stuff like this matters because beautiful love like this exists,” she concluded.
“Lightyear” caused a controversy leading up to its release due to the inclusion of a same-sex kiss, which was initially edited out, then restored in response to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill, dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” by several legacy media outlets and leftists.
The film earned a paltry $226.4 million against a $200 million budget, meaning it likely lost money after factoring in marketing and other expenses.

In a TikTok video on Monday, a Michigan Democratic legislator offered to help children access “gender-affirming” care if they contacted her office.
Michigan State Rep. Carrie Rheingans said in the video that she was specifically talking to “trans kids here in Michigan,” adding that life-altering gender procedures are still legal in the state. Wearing a “Protect Trans Kids” sweatshirt, the Michigan Democrat posted the video Monday in response to the University of Michigan’s hospital network <a href="https://michiganadvance.com/2025/08/25/university-of-michigan-health-ends-gender-affirming-care-after-doj-subpoena/">ending</a> gender procedures for minors under pressure from the Department of Justice.
In her video, Rheingans told children that they could still get “care” at other places in Michigan.
“I want you to know, as trans kids here in Michigan, that this care is obviously safe and effective. That’s why it’s been approved and why it’s been used all across the country and continues to be used,” she added. “So if you need to find a new place to get care it is still legal here in Michigan, and reach out to our office, we’ll be able to connect you to what might still be available in our community.”
Rheingans, who represents Ann Arbor, urged children to “please contact our office” and provided contact information.
“We love you. We are really supportive of you as kids, and we want to make sure that you can grow up and thrive here in Michigan,” she added.

The federal government and medical establishment previously pushed gender procedures for children as an effective way to treat gender dysphoria, but the practice has come under intense <a href="https://opa.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/2025-05/gender-dysphoria-report-exec-summary.pdf">scrutiny</a> as new research highlights the dangers of performing life-altering gender surgeries and puberty blockers. A Health and Human Services <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hhs-releases-damning-review-of-gender-treatments-for-minors-the-risks-cannot-be-ignored">review</a> released earlier this year, shortly after President Donald Trump took office, stated, “These interventions carry risk of significant harms including infertility/sterility, sexual dysfunction, impaired bone density accrual, adverse cognitive impacts, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders, psychiatric disorders, surgical complications, and regret.”

Even before Trump stepped into the White House, the federal government was changing its tune on gender procedures for children. Last summer, the Biden administration opposed lowering the age minimums for hormonal treatments, mastectomies, breast augmentations, facial, and genital surgeries, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/28/health/transgender-surgery-biden.html">reported</a>.
The Trump administration has threatened to cut federal funding to hospitals that continue to perform gender procedures on children, resulting in many large hospitals such as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/health-care-puts-stop-to-trans-surgeries-on-kids">Kaiser Permanente</a> and <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Health/us-hospitals-ending-gender-affirming-care-minors-impact/story?id=124889031">Children’s National Hospital</a> ending the practice.
Michigan Republican state Rep. Brad Paquette, who is leading an effort in the Great Lakes State to protect children from gender procedures, told The Daily Wire that he has a “good relationship” with Rheingans and has discussed the issue with her “pretty extensively.”
“So here in the state of Michigan, one of the unfortunate aspects is my colleagues on the other side of the aisle are completely captured by this ideology, this gender theory,” Paquette said. “So I’m trying to do my best to figure out how to get my colleagues informed as to what these procedures are.”
“She has this mentality that she carries — that the trans activists carry — that there are safe spaces, that you’re an ally or you’re not,” Paquette added. “And this causes an extreme divide among families and in the political arena.”
Rheingans did not respond to a Daily Wire request for comment, but she did address some criticism of her video on social media.
“Horrifying because I told children that I love them. Calm down,” she <a href="https://x.com/RepRheingans/status/1960364046546244058">replied</a> to one post from conservative communicator Steve Guest, who said it was “one of the most horrifying videos that I’ve ever seen posted by a politician.”
“Kids need to see that some grownups love them, and not all are bullies,” she <a href="https://x.com/RepRheingans/status/1960373622473691545">wrote</a> in another post.
Rheingans has made LGBT issues a significant part of her political agenda, saying earlier this year that she was “proud to vote YES to expand Michigan’s civil rights law,” which added sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of protected classes.

In 2024, Rheingans spoke at the Ann Arbor Pride Festival and <a href="https://archive.ph/VU0Dl#selection-1603.0-1606.0">urged</a> gay people to run for office.
