Nine couples are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lawsuit">suing</a> Ovation Fertility in Newport Beach, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california">California</a>, alleging the in vitro fertilization (IVF) provider knowingly implanted deceased embryos into patients to cover up a lab mistake.
There are at least two joint lawsuits pending against the provider, according to <a href="https://people.com/couples-sue-fertility-clinic-alleging-women-implanted-dead-toxic-embryos-exclusive-8637361">People</a>.
The filings allege that a lab embryologist wrongly injected the embryos with hydrogen peroxide or a different toxic substance instead of a sterile solution while they were in an incubator, which caused the embryos to be &#8220;killed instantly.&#8221; 
The lawsuits further alleges that Ovation employees were aware that the embryos were deceased when they were implanted but chose to have &#8220;these dead embryos [implanted] into the would-be mothers.&#8221; 
Specific charges against the facility include negligent misrepresentation, fraud, negligence, and medical battery, per <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/couples-allege-ivf-provider-destroyed-embryos-toxic-solution/story?id=109386947">ABC News</a>.
While most plaintiffs chose to remain anonymous, one couple spoke with People about their experience at the clinic and why they chose to pursue legal action.
Brooke Berger and her husband Bennett Hardy began pursuing IVF treatments two years ago. They expressed distress at finding out the procedure they went through at Ovation had no chance of success. &#8220;It&#8217;s been very difficult and has taken such a toll,&#8221; Berger told the outlet. &#8220;There was no chance at all. We found out that we went through all of this for nothing. It was really heartbreaking.&#8221;
Their attorney Robert H. Marcereau said, &#8220;The story that came up more often and more consistently — at least three or four times with our clients — getting it secondhand from their doctors, was this notion that somehow hydrogen peroxide had been accidentally introduced into the incubator while the embryos were there, which hydrogen peroxide, it&#8217;s basically like battery acid to those embryos.&#8221;

&#8220;It&#8217;s a very caustic substance, particularly if it&#8217;s a higher percentage strength. And it was lethal to them. That&#8217;s why there was a 100% mortality rate for these embryos during this period. But Ovation has never come out and said exactly what happened,&#8221; the attorney continued. &#8220;They don&#8217;t have qualified personnel and protocols to ensure things like this don&#8217;t happen.&#8221;
The couple further alleges that the IVF provider attempted to refund the cost of the procedure to avoid litigation.
A spokesperson for Ovation gave a statement to People via email. 
&#8220;Ovation Fertility has protocols in place to protect the health and integrity of every embryo under our care. This was an isolated incident related to an unintended laboratory technician error that impacted a very small number of patients,&#8221; the spokesperson wrote. 
&#8220;As soon as we recognized that pregnancy numbers were lower than our usually high success rates, we immediately initiated an investigation. We have been in close contact with these few impacted patients since the issue was discovered. We are grateful for the opportunity to help patients build a family and will continue to implement and enforce rigorous protocols to safeguard that process.&#8221;
The pending lawsuits are seeking jury trials and unspecified compensation.
&#8220;We can&#8217;t speak to whether or not there may be some criminal action,&#8221; Marcereau went on. &#8220;We haven&#8217;t gotten to the bottom of what happened with the embryos. But it can certainly be criminal. We have a lot of questions and no answers yet. That&#8217;s what this litigation is going to be about. We want answers for these grieving couples and ensure nothing like this ever happens again.&#8221;

The Bad Boy Records founder has been making headlines all week following the Department of Homeland Security serving search warrants at Combs&#8217; multiple homes. He also faces sexual assault lawsuits from five different people dating back to last year. Two of the complaints also include sex trafficking allegations.
TMZ <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/03/28/diddy-feds-subpoenas-companies-sex-trafficking-investigation-raids/">reported</a> last week that companies doing business with Combs, including a private charter jet firm, phone provider, and computer specialists, were being issued subpoenas during the investigation. 
Diddy’s lawyers condemned the raids on his properties. &#8220;There was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs’ residences,&#8221; lawyer Aaron Dyer said in a statement, per <a href="https://people.com/diddy-returns-to-instagram-after-home-raids-with-easter-photo-of-daughter-love-8621850">People</a>. &#8220;There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated.&#8221;
&#8220;This unprecedented ambush — paired with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits,&#8221; Dyer continued, adding that “there has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.&#8221;

Diddy had also declared his innocence at the end of last year when the sexual assault lawsuits were initially filed. 
“For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy,” Combs said in December.
“Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday,” he said. “Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and the truth.”

A first grader who made a drawing that included the words “Black Lives Mater [sic]” with “any life” underneath was punished by her school.
Her mother sued the school, arguing her daughter’s First Amendment rights were violated, but a California district court ruled that the drawing was not protected speech because educators are given “substantial deference as to what speech is appropriate.”
The little girl, referred to only as B.B. in <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cacd.876261/gov.uscourts.cacd.876261.92.0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the court documents</a>, drew the picture and gave it to another student, referred to only as M.C., who is apparently a student of color. M.C.’s mother saw the drawing and emailed the school, saying she trusted that the school would address the drawing.
The background provided in the judge&#8217;s ruling said that on the day M.C.’s mother emailed the school, B.B. was approached by the school’s principal during recess and told the drawing was “inappropriate” and “racist,” though the school disputes telling her it was racist. B.B. was told she could not draw anymore and that she must apologize to M.C., which B.B. did, twice.
After recess, B.B. was told by her teachers that she would not be allowed to play during recess for two weeks, but was not told why, according to the documents. There is also no evidence the principal directed the teachers to further punish B.B.
B.B.’s mother insisted that the punishment violated B.B.’s constitutional right to free speech, but the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California’s Southern Division ruled the opposite.
Citing previous case law, the court said that students don’t “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate,&#8221; but that their rights also are &#8220;not automatically coextensive with the rights of adults in other settings.&#8221;
Further, the court cited case law arguing that the First Amendment must be “applied in light of the special characteristics of the school environment” and that educators understand those needs best.

The court cited Tinker v. Des Moines Indep. School Dist., which held that schools could restrict speech that “might reasonably lead school authorities to forecast substantial disruption of or material interference with school activities” or that infringes on “the rights of other students to be secure and let alone.” The court also said that educators have &#8220;greater leeway&#8221; in regulating speech &#8220;directed at a &#8216;particularly vulnerable&#8217; student based on a &#8216;core identifying characteristic,&#8217; such as race, sex, religion, or sexual orientation &#8230;&#8221;
The court argued that by giving the drawing to M.C., described as a “particularly vulnerable” student because of her skin color, the school acted reasonably in regulating B.B.’s free speech. The court also said that the drawing interfered with the school environment.
“Younger students may be more sensitive than older students, so their educational experience may be more affected when they receive messages based on a protected characteristic,” the court argued. “Relatedly, first graders are impressionable. If other students join in on the insults, the disruption could metastasize, affecting the learning opportunities of even more students.”
The California court argued the phrase &#8220;any life&#8221; to be “similar to ‘All Lives Matter,’ a sentence with an inclusive denotation but one that is widely perceived as racially insensitive and belittling when directed at people of color.”
In her own testimony, B.B. said she gave the drawing to M.C. to make her feel comfortable after learning about Martin Luther King Jr. in class. It is also unclear how M.C. felt about the drawing, given that it was her mother who emailed the school after finding the drawing in M.C.’s backpack.
Eugene Volokh, a UCLA law professor, <a href="https://reason.com/volokh/2024/03/19/black-lives-matter-any-life-drawing-not-protected-by-the-first-amendment-in-first-grade/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> that he found the court’s ruling “unconstitutional, even in first grade.”
“[T]he court&#8217;s view here seems to be that this viewpoint—simply because it ‘can be seen’ as dissenting from what some see as the only proper response to racial problems—is stripped of First Amendment protection,” Volokh wrote. “The ‘Black Lives Matter’ slogan is accepted as the one orthodoxy, and any perceived dissent from the view that black lives should be specially stressed in this context can be forbidden.”

The bar exam will no longer be required for people who want to practice law in Washington state, the state Supreme Court ruled last week, prompted by equity concerns.
In a pair of orders Friday, the Washington Supreme Court approved &#8220;alternative pathways to lawyer licensure,&#8221; the court <a href="https://www.courts.wa.gov/newsinfo/?fa=newsinfo.pressdetail&amp;newsid=50389" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a press release.
The decision follows recommendations made by the state&#8217;s Bar Licensure Task Force, which was formed in 2020 to examine the issue. The task force recommended getting rid of the mandatory bar exam in order to &#8220;advance the cause of diversity, equity, and inclusion.&#8221;
The task force found that the traditional bar exam &#8220;disproportionately and unnecessarily blocks historically marginalized groups from entering the practice of law.&#8221;
&#8220;In addition to the racism and classism written into the test itself the time and financial costs of the test reinforce historical inequities in our profession,&#8221; the task force <a href="https://www.courts.wa.gov/content/publicUpload/Supreme%20Court%20Orders/Orders%2025700B710%20and%2025700B711.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in its recommendations. &#8220;Despite these issues, data indicates that the bar exam is at best minimally effective for ensuring competent lawyers.&#8221;
Under the court&#8217;s new changes, Washington will create three &#8220;experiential-learning&#8221; alternatives to the bar exam.
Law school graduates will have to do a six-month apprenticeship under the guidance and supervision of a qualified attorney as well as take three more standardized courses.
Students still in law school must complete 12 qualifying skills credits and do 500 hours of work as a licensed legal intern. They must then submit a portfolio of this work to waive the bar exam.

Law clerks who are not attending law school must also complete 500 hours of work as a licensed legal intern as well as meet certain benchmarks and complete standardized educational materials.
The state is also lowering the minimum score to pass the bar from 270 to 266, a lower threshold previously adopted during the pandemic. Those who do take the rigorous test will take a new, updated bar exam that &#8220;addresses many of the identified flaws in the current bar exam by focusing on real-world skills and practice&#8221; starting in summer, 2026.
The court is also calling for assessments and programs to help lawyers remain competent throughout their careers, not just when they are licensed. A timeline for all the changes is not yet set, but they will be implemented by the Washington State Bar Association.
Last week&#8217;s decision makes Washington the second state to nix the bar exam requirement after Oregon <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/students/careers/2023/11/09/oregon-approves-alternative-bar-exam" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made</a> the same decision for similar reasons in November.

Former President Donald Trump sued ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos on Monday, arguing that the news host defamed him on-air multiple times.
Trump filed the lawsuit in a federal court in Miami, alleging that Stephanopoulos harmed his reputation after the ABC News host said during an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) last week that Trump was found liable for raping writer E. Jean Carroll, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/18/us/politics/trump-lawsuit-abc-stephanopoulos.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Last year, a jury in a Manhattan civil case found the former president liable for sexually abusing Carroll, not for rape.
“Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape. How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony we just saw?&#8221; Stephanopoulos asked Mace during the interview.
In a 20-page <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.flsd.664183/gov.uscourts.flsd.664183.1.0.pdf">complaint</a>, Trump’s attorney Alejandro Brito wrote, “These statements were and remain false, and were made by Defendant Stephanopoulos with actual malice or with a reckless disregard for the truth given that Defendant Stephanopoulos knows that these statements are patently and demonstrably false.”
“Indeed, the jury expressly found that Plaintiff did not commit rape and, as demonstrated below, Defendant George Stephanopoulos was aware of the jury’s finding in this regard yet still falsely stated otherwise,” Brito added, according to <a href="https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4541257-trump-sues-abc-stephanopoulos-alleging-defamation-mace-interview/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a>.
Trump has asked for an unspecified amount of damages in the lawsuit.
Mace <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-mace-rips-george-stephanopoulos-over-tense-interview-about-trump-tried-to-shame-me-as-a-rape-victim" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blasted</a> Stephanopoulos during the interview after he grilled her on her support of the former president, referencing that the congresswoman had been a rape victim herself. She insisted the question was “offensive” and “disgusting.” Mace added, “You’re questioning my political choices because I’ve been raped.”
The jury in the civil case found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her after the writer claimed Trump followed her into a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store and forcibly digitally penetrated her in the mid-1990s.

Trump has also attempted to countersue Carroll for continuing to accuse him of rape during appearances on cable news after the jury’s verdict. U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, however, rejected Trump’s counterclaims, saying that “The difference between Ms. Carroll’s allegedly defamatory statements — that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as defined in the New York Penal Law — and the ‘truth’ — that Mr. Trump forcibly digitally penetrated Ms. Carroll — is minimal.”
“Both are felonious sex crimes,” Kaplan added.
The jury later <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/court-fines-trump-83-3-million-over-eight-times-lawsuits-request-in-e-jean-carroll-defamation-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded</a> Carroll $83.3 million in damages, finding that Trump owed Carroll $11 million to cover the costs of a campaign to repair the harm done to her reputation and $7.3 million to address the emotional harm the 80-year-old writer sustained from remarks Trump made in 2019 about her and her accusations of rape. The jury ordered Trump to pay another $65 million in punitive damages.
“Absolutely ridiculous!” Trump said in a statement following the jury’s verdict. “I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a political weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!”

A former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/boeing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boeing</a> employee who raised safety concerns related to the company&#8217;s aircraft production was found dead this week.
Former Boeing quality manager John Barnett, who The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/12/business/john-barnett-boeing-whistleblower-dead.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described</a> as a &#8220;prominent&#8221; whistleblower, was in Charleston, South Carolina, this week for a deposition for a lawsuit that he filed against Boeing. The lawsuit alleges that the company retaliated against Barnett for raising his safety concerns with the U.S. Labor Department in 2017 under the AIR21 Whistleblower Protection Program.
The Charleston Police Department was dispatched on Saturday morning to conduct a welfare check at a Holiday Inn hotel and discovered Barnett, 62, sitting inside a vehicle with a &#8220;gunshot wound to the head,&#8221; police said.
Police said that it appeared as though the fatal gunshot wound was &#8220;self-inflicted,&#8221; but added that the detectives and the coroner were still investigating to make an official determination about his cause of death.
&#8220;We understand the global attention this case has garnered, and it is our priority to ensure that the investigation is not influenced by speculation but is led by facts and evidence,&#8221; the department added. &#8220;Given the sensitive nature of the investigation, we are unable to participate in media interviews at this time. The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lawsuit">trial</a> over ownership of handwritten lyrics of hit Eagles <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/music">songs</a> like &#8220;Hotel California&#8221; has been dismissed as new evidence was introduced to the court, including 6,000 pages of emails.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york">New York</a> prosecutors on Wednesday abruptly dropped the case against three collectibles experts accused of stealing the lyrics pages and attempting to sell them for a profit, per <a href="https://apnews.com/article/hotel-california-lyrics-trial-eagles-e54331f073373ecdc801349c39cda889">AP News</a>. While dismissing the case, presiding Judge Curtis Farber said &#8220;witnesses and their lawyers&#8221; used attorney-client privilege &#8220;to obfuscate and hide information that they believed would be damaging.&#8221;
The trial began in February. Eagles band member Don Henley accused rare books dealer Glenn Horowitz, former Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame curator Craig Inciardi, and rock memorabilia seller Edward Kosinski of taking the handwritten lyrics and other memorabilia without permission and selling it. 
The defendants said some of the pages in question came from writer Ed Sanders, who was working on an authorized Eagles biography. He allegedly sold them to Horowitz.
Prosecutors and the defense were given access to the written communication over the past few days after Henley and his lawyers waived their attorney-client privilege shielding legal discussions.
The content of the communications that led to the case dismissal isn’t available to the public, but defense lawyers said the documents called into question Henley’s testimony and identified additional key witnesses. 
Henley’s attorney, Dan Petrocelli, insists the saga isn’t over, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/eagles-co-founder-don-henley-victimized-hotel-california-trial-dismissal-lawyer">according</a> to Fox News Digital.
&#8220;The attorney-client privilege is a foundational guardrail in our justice system, and rarely, if ever, should you have to forsake it to prosecute or defend a case,&#8221; Petrocelli said in a statement. &#8220;As the victim in this case, Mr. Henley has once again been victimized by this unjust outcome. He will pursue all his rights in the civil courts.&#8221;

One of Kosinski’s lawyers, Scott Edelman, said prosecutors “got blinded by the fame and fortune of a celebrity” in taking on the case. 
“We are checking out and leaving the courtroom,” Stacey Richman, Inciardi’s lawyer <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/03/06/us-news/da-moves-to-drop-eagles-stolen-lyrics-case-after-admitting-don-henley-produced-6000-pages-of-evidence-late/">quipped</a> as the case was dismissed, referencing the famous line from the Eagles song “Hotel California” that says, “you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">CBS Studios</a> and its parent company, Paramount, are being sued by an employee who claims he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/discrimination">discriminated</a> against for being a heterosexual white male. 
Brian Beneker, a script coordinator for the drama series “SEAL Team,” filed a lawsuit in California federal court Wednesday, per <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/cbs-studios-paramount-reverse-discrimination-lawsuit-racial-quotas-1235842493/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>. 
The studio employee alleged that he was repeatedly denied a staff writer job due to the company’s “illegal policy of race and sex balancing,” which promoted hiring “less qualified applicants who were members of more <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei">preferred groups</a>.” Beneker specifically stated in the document that women, minorities, and LGTBQ individuals were given preferential consideration for open positions.
The CBS employee is seeking $500,000 in damages and is requesting a court order to become a full-time producer on the series to help combat future discriminatory practices, the THR report noted.
Beneker is represented by the America First Legal Foundation. The conservative legal group was founded by Stephen Miller, a White House policy adviser under the Trump administration. This is the first major lawsuit that America First is representing against an entertainment industry company.
The lawsuit states that Beneker worked as a script coordinator for “SEAL Team” since 2017 and has written several episodes. He alleges that he was passed over for staff writer positions on multiple occasions while members of minority groups were chosen despite not being as qualified for the roles, in his estimation.
Beneker claims he asked a showrunner in 2019 why one person was chosen instead of him for an open position. He claims that person said it was because he “did not check any diversity boxes.” Despite being told he’d be the next pick, Beneker said CBS hired six more women as writers. 
Beneker said this happened on more than one occasion.
“During Season 6, (in approximately May of 2022), two female writer’s assistants, without any writing credits, were hired as staff writers,” the lawsuit says. “The first of these two hires was black. The second identified as lesbian.”
Beneker said these initiatives have “created a situation where heterosexual, white men need ‘extra’ qualifications (including military experience or previous writing credits) to be hired as staff writers when compared to their nonwhite, LGBTQ, or female peers.”

The employee blamed the hiring practice on publicly stated diversity quotas which CBS sought to meet. CEO of CBS Entertainment Group George Cheeks reportedly said in 2022 that he set a goal of all writers&#8217; rooms being staffed by at least 40% minority group members. He further stated that 17 out of 21 shows met those goals for the 2021-2022 season.
The lawsuit comes on the heels of the Supreme Court decision last June, which found that Harvard University and the University of North Carolina could not use <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/advocates-hail-scotus-decision-scrapping-affirmative-action-in-college-admissions">race-based criteria</a> for admissions.

The screenwriter of the original 1989 movie “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">Road House</a>” is suing Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and its parent company, Amazon Studios, for copyright infringement.
Lance Hill (who also goes by pen name David Lee Henry) wrote the original script for the film starring Patrick Swayze as a bouncer with a Ph.D. in philosophy and a karate black belt who is tasked with cleaning up a small Missouri bar.
A “Road House” remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal is being released on March 21 on Prime Video.
Hill’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lawsuit">lawsuit</a> states that in 2021, he told the original film&#8217;s producers, United Artists, that the copyright grant was ending and the rights would revert to him on November 11, 2023.
Hill claims that Amazon Studios ignored his petition and used AI (artificial intelligence) technology in place of real actors during the Screen Actors Guild strike so it could complete the film before the November 10 deadline, per <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/road-house-writer-sues-amazon-ai-replicate-actors-voices-1235924407/">Variety</a>.
Hill claimed the film wasn’t really completed until January, which was past the deadline, and that it heavily borrowed from his original “Road House” script.
“On Nov. 11, 2023, the Screenplay’s copyright thereby duly reverted to Hill under the Copyright Act. Yet, in contravention of the Act’s fundamental authorial termination right, Defendants refused to acknowledge Hill’s statutory termination,” the suit reads. “Instead, Defendants steamrolled ahead with the production of a remake of the 1989 Film derived from Hill’s Screenplay.”
A rep from Amazon MGM Studios denied these allegations. “The lawsuit filed by R. Lance Hill regarding ‘Road House’ today is completely without merit, and numerous allegations are categorically false,” the rep told Variety in a statement. “The film does not use any AI in place of actors’ voices. We look forward to defending ourselves against these claims.”

This isn’t the only “Road House” drama in the news. Director Doug Liman is boycotting the film because it’s skipping theaters and going directly to streaming, the outlet noted. Liman will not attend the movie’s premiere at SXSW on March 8.
Gyllenhaal spoke up about the situation, saying, “I adore Doug’s tenacity, and I think he is advocating for filmmakers, and film in the cinema, and theatrical releases. But, I mean, Amazon was always clear that it was streaming.”

The father of a man who killed his fiancée during a cross-country road trip in 2021 said he didn’t know what his son meant during a frantic phone call placed after the murder.
Chris Laundrie, whose son, Brian Laundrie, admitted to killing his fiancée Gabby Petito in a case that gained national attention, acknowledged during a deposition in October that the phone call took place, People Magazine <a href="https://people.com/gabby-petito-brian-laundrie-gabbys-gone-phone-call-8580466" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. He stated, however, that he had “no idea” what Brian meant during the call when he said “Gabby’s gone.”
“I asked him, you know, how is he doing, and he — you know, he was not calm and he got very excited and told me things had — you know, ‘Gabby’s gone’ and he got very frantic,” Chris said in the deposition, according to transcripts <a href="https://www.wfla.com/news/local-news/gabbys-gone-brian-laundries-parents-reveal-what-happened-after-petitos-death-in-new-depositions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reviewed</a> by WFLA. “Everything was frantic and quick. So, you know, Gabby’s gone.”
Chris was then asked what else Brian had said during the phone call.
“Well, it was quick,” Chris replied. “He said, you know — and he was very panicked and he said he didn’t know what to do. He said, you know, ‘Can you help me,’ you know, and he might need a lawyer, you know. And I would — I asked him why he wouldn’t tell me. He was very frantic. Everything was frantic and I started to not really comprehend, and then he said just, you know, ‘Can you help me?’ And I said, ‘Okay. I’ll help you.’ And I calmed him down and I said — I don’t know.”
“It was — it was all mumbled and I still don’t remember everything that happened, but, you know, he said he needed help and to get an attorney,” Chris continued. “And I told him, ‘Yeah, I’ll help you. I’ll call Steven Bertolino, and just stay put.’ And then I asked him again, and he just said, ‘Just help me.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to, so stay calm. Stay put.’ And he hung up.”
The deposition, which was just made public, is part of a lawsuit against the Laundrie family filed by Petito’s family, alleging the Laundries helped their son escape law enforcement. A civil trial for the lawsuit is scheduled to begin in May.
Petito’s parents are seeking $100,000 for pain and suffering due to the alleged actions of the Laundries.
Laundrie is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newly-revealed-texts-show-brian-laundrie-casually-discussing-trip-after-killing-gabby-petito-once-in-a-lifetime" target="_blank" rel="noopener">believed</a> to have committed suicide after he went missing following the murder of his fiancée, whom Laundrie admitted to killing, according to the FBI. His remains were found in Florida&#8217;s Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 2021, and his family’s attorney released the notebook found with his body in June 2022.
“I ended her life,” Laundrie wrote, according to <a href="https://static.foxnews.com/foxnews.com/content/uploads/2022/06/Gabby-note-better.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a copy</a> of the notebook <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/gabby-petito-murder-brian-laundries-notebook-confession-revealed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exclusively</a> provided to Fox News. “I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock.”
Laundrie went on to claim that Petito, who was 22 when Laundrie strangled her to death, had injured herself in a fall while they were visiting Wyoming and that he killed her to take “away her pain.”
“Rushing back to our car trying to cross the streams of spread creek before it got too dark to see, to [sic] cold. I hear a splash and a scream,” Laundrie wrote, adding that he carried her as far as he could but had to stop to make a fire to keep them warm when he couldn’t make it back to the couple’s van.
He claimed Petito “had a small bump on her forehead that eventually got larger” and that she “continually made sounds of pain, laying next to her she said little lapsing between violent shakes, gasping in pain, begging for an end to her pain.”
Laundrie also referred to Petito’s death as his “mistake” and insisted that he was not ending his life “because of a fear of punishment but rather because I cant [sic] stand to live another day without her.”

Petito and Laundrie were driving across the country visiting national parks when Petito went missing. She was last seen alive in late August before her family reported her missing in early September after Laundrie returned to his parents’ home in Florida without her. Laundrie’s family then reported him missing on September 17.
Petito’s body was found in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on September 19, 2021. Laundrie’s remains were found on October 20.

Gina was fired from “The Mandalorian” after she posted a meme saying, essentially, that othering can end with murder. I thought that was a mainstream point of view, but Disney fired her. So, we hired her and she was in “Terror on the Prairie,” a big win for all involved.

You&#8217;ll recall that it was in February 2021, not long after she had been in “The Mandalorian,” that Lucasfilm put out a <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/mandalorian-star-gina-carano-out-lucasfilms-after-abhorrent-social-media-n1257429" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scathing statement</a> on their business with her: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
By the way, there was no social media post denigrating anyone based on cultural or religious identity at all.

“Defendants also discriminated against Carano by treating her differently from her male co-stars who also made public, political statements on social media,” the lawsuit states.
That is absolutely true. Pedro Pascal, who is the star of “The Mandalorian,” put out a meme basically about how illegal immigrants were being held in detention facilities like concentration camps.
He put out that tweet — nothing.
“Her male co-stars were not disciplined, let alone terminated in a way to destroy their careers even though some would find their statements ‘abhorrent,’” the lawsuit states. The lawsuit notes Pascal’s statements as well as guest star Mark Hamill comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.
So Carano is amplifying all that. And then Elon Musk <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1754956541252263941" target="_blank" rel="noopener">put out</a> a statement <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-offers-more-legal-support-for-anyone-discriminated-against-by-disney-as-gina-carano-is-cheered-for-her-lawsuit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a>, “Please let us know if you would like to join the lawsuit against Disney.”
Revenge is best served cold.
Elon tweeted, <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1755007753289134162" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a>, “If you were discriminated against by Disney or its subsidiaries (ABC, ESPN, Marvel, etc), just reply to this post to receive legal support,” because he received from an anonymous source evidence that showed Disney general entertainment content and inclusion standards that looked like they violated basic civil rights law and seemed to create all sorts of racist hiring practices.
People are going to take him up on that. I would not be surprised to see Disney sued from a thousand different directions over that because DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) must, in fact, die.

After actress Gina Carano <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gina-carano-sues-disney-after-elon-musk-offers-legal-help" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed a wrongful termination lawsuit</a> against Disney on Tuesday with support from Tesla and X owner Elon Musk, the tech billionaire has offered legal help to anyone “discriminated against by Disney or its subsidiaries.”
Carano <a href="https://twitter.com/ginacarano/status/1754952279646437655" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on X on Tuesday that her lawsuit, filed in the U.S. federal court for the Central District of California, was prompted in part by an offer from Musk who said in August of last year that X would fund the legal bill of anyone who was “unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform.” The “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/terror-on-the-prairie">Terror on the Prairie</a>” actress’ lawsuit was cheered by many people, especially conservatives who have long called out Disney’s leftward drift.
Musk <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1755007753289134162" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on Tuesday evening offering legal support for anyone who has faced discrimination from the media giant. “If you were discriminated against by Disney or its subsidiaries (ABC, ESPN, Marvel, etc), just reply to this post to receive legal support,” he wrote.
The X owner’s post was a follow-up to a previous post in which he pointed to an ABC chart reportedly sent to showrunners, including producers at Disney, that listed its so-called &#8220;inclusion standards.&#8221; Musk called the standards “institutionalized racism and sexism.”
The inclusion chart, which was <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/abc-unveils-ambitious-set-of-inclusion-standards-exclusive-4069409/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on by The Hollywood Reporter in September 2020, sought to increase the inclusion of “Underrepresented Groups” in both on-screen and behind-the-scenes roles. The chart pushed the company to meet inclusion quotas, such as requiring that “50% or more of regular and recurring written characters come from Underrepresented Groups” and “50% or more of regular and recurring actors come from Underrepresented Groups.”

Shortly after the high-profile termination, The Daily Wire announced that it had partnered with the former mixed martial artist for a movie deal that resulted in the feature film “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/terror-on-the-prairie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Terror on the Prairie</a>,” which premiered in June 2022.
“Today is an important day for me–I am filing a lawsuit against @lucasfilm &amp; @Disney,” Carano wrote in her announcement of the lawsuit against Disney. “After my 20 years of building a career from scratch, and during the regime of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Lucasfilm made this statement on Twitter, terminating me from The Mandalorian: ‘Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm &amp; there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural &amp; religious identities are abhorrent &amp; unacceptable.’”
“Nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time,” the actress continued. “My words were consistently twisted to demonize &amp; dehumanize me as an alt right wing extremist. It was a bullying smear campaign aimed at silencing, destroying &amp; making an example out of me.”
