A resident of Dearborn, Michigan, accused the city of promoting Islam with city funds while discriminating against other religions. 
The city funded decorations for the Islamic religious celebration of Ramadan while ignoring requests for equal recognition for Christian and Jewish holidays, <a href="https://www.americanfreedomlawcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Complaint-Cleveland-v-City-of-Dearborn-Filed.pdf">according</a> to a lawsuit filed in federal court on Thursday. Additionally, the suit accused the city and Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, a Democrat, of violating the constitutional rights of non-Muslims.
“By selectively permitting and promoting religious expression for Muslims but denying similar expression for Christians and Jews, as set forth in this Complaint, Defendants have conveyed and effected governmental preference for one faith tradition over another,” argues the lawsuit filed by Margot Cleveland, a Dearborn resident and senior legal correspondent for The Federalist. 
Dearborn is home to the largest per capita Muslim population in the United States and more than 50% of its residents have roots in the Middle East or North Africa. Over the weekend, federal agents <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-bust-saddam-hussein-associate-hiding-in-u-s-muslim-hotspot?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Of+Course+This+Is+Where+A+Saddam+Hussein+Henchman+Was+Found+Hiding+In+America">arrested</a> a former intelligence officer under Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein who was hiding out in the city. 
Cleveland’s <a href="https://www.americanfreedomlawcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Complaint-Cleveland-v-City-of-Dearborn-Filed.pdf">lawsuit</a>, filed by the American Freedom Law Center, said that she was in downtown Dearborn in April 2025 when she noticed city-sponsored banners celebrating Ramadan and a crescent moon display erected in a public park.

Through subsequent public records requests, Cleveland found that the city spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on the religious decorations and created Ramadan-themed T-shirts for the police department. Cleveland said the decorations constituted “a governmental endorsement and promotion of the Islamic faith.”
Other records revealed that Hammoud held a private religious event paid for by city funds. 
Cleveland’s suit said the city “has never commissioned a comparable City-sponsored street light, banner, or park display program to mark Easter, Passover, Christmas, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, or any other Christian or Jewish observance.”
The lawsuit also said that Hammoud was openly hostile to Christians. It quoted one <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/muslim-mayor-in-dearborn-michigan-tells-christian-resident-you-are-not-welcome-here" target="_blank" rel="noopener">viral exchange</a> where the mayor told a Christian pastor who spoke in opposition to naming a street in the city after a supporter of designated terrorist organizations that he was not welcome in the city. 
“And although you live here, I want you to know as mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out of the city . . . because you are not somebody who believes in coexistence,” Hammoud said. 
Cleveland’s suit claims Hammoud violated her First Amendment speech rights by directing city officials not to speak with her and by not providing equal recognition for Christian or Jewish holidays. The Daily Wire reached out to the city for comment. 
Islam&#8217;s growing presence in Michigan has become more established in recent years and has become a focus with Democrat Abdul El-Sayed&#8217;s bid to be the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate.
Last month, the sheik of a mosque in Dearborn Heights <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dearborn-sheikh-declares-muslims-will-build-america-on-islam" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> that Islam and the Shiite faith are “coming to America” and said its adherents would help “build America.”
“We will build America on the basis of moral civilization and Islam,” said Sheikh Ibrahim Yassine. “What they have is no civilization. It is nothing but worldly life, nothing but technology. For them, civilization means killing nations and plundering their resources, even if it means killing all the people.”

Fox Business anchor Jackie DeAngelis says she was left permanently disfigured after a pit bull mauled her inside a Manhattan Whole Foods — and now she&#8217;s suing the grocery chain for allegedly allowing the beast into the store.
DeAngelis, 46, co-host of The Big Money Show, was bitten on the left hand by a black pit bull while shopping at the Whole Foods location at 10 Columbus Circle in September 2023, according to a <a href="https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=inuaqzaRyJeyB3mpHTCuEQ==">lawsuit</a> filed August 20 in Manhattan Supreme Court.
The dog and its owner had already left the store by the time officers arrived on the scene, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/09/05/us-news/fox-business-jackie-deangelis-sues-whole-foods-after-nyc-dog-attack/">according</a> to police accounts relayed to the New York Post.
Whole Foods maintains a <a href="https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/customer-service/topics#00000171-557f-d629-a5f1-f5ffa3010000">company-wide policy</a> banning pets in its stores, with an exception for service animals recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act. DeAngelis&#8217; suit argues the dog involved was not a legitimate service animal, and that store employees failed to catch its presence or remove it before the attack occurred.
&#8220;[Whole Foods] failed to reasonably enforce its own policies, practices and/or procedures concerning animals entering and remaining within the subject store,&#8221; the complaint states, further accusing the grocery chain of failing to &#8220;exercise reasonable care in controlling and regulating the presence of unauthorized animals within its premises.&#8221;
The suit says DeAngelis required surgery on her hand following the attack and has been left with significant scarring, reduced mobility, and an inability to perform certain tasks — damage her attorneys describe as &#8220;permanent and continuing.&#8221; She is seeking unspecified damages to cover her medical costs and emotional distress.
Pit bulls are a perennial flashpoint in the debate over dangerous dog breeds. DogsBite.org, which tracks fatal maulings, <a href="https://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-quick-statistics.php">found</a> the breed accounted for roughly 66% of U.S. dog bite deaths between 2005 and 2024 despite making up an estimated 6% to 20% of the overall dog population. And separate trauma-center <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21475022/">studies</a> <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27400935/">have</a> <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31816277/">found</a> pit bull attacks produce disproportionately severe injuries compared to bites from other breeds.
Pit bulls are banned or tightly restricted in more than 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, Denmark and Norway, where ownership is generally illegal absent narrow exemptions.

Four male high school students entered a Muslim prayer room at their public school, where two Jewish students prayed and sang in Hebrew and one did a handstand. Within moments, they were accused of “trashing” the room, making sexual maneuvers and engaging in offensive conduct they say never happened.
The incident at the public Academy at Palumbo in Philadelphia is the subject of a federal lawsuit against the School District of Philadelphia, with the students alleging that school officials failed to correct false accusations about what happened or protect them from threats that followed.
A federal judge ruled Friday that the lawsuit can move forward against three Philadelphia school officials, rejecting their effort to have the case thrown out. The judge found that the students had made a sufficient case that their constitutional rights may have been violated when they were disciplined for entering the prayer room.
According to the lawsuit, the students were confronted by classmates, threatened, and subjected to increasingly serious allegations about what they had done inside the room on June 11, 2024. Two families eventually left the Philadelphia School District, the lawsuit says, so their sons could finish high school elsewhere.

Only two of the four students were Jewish, but that apparently didn&#8217;t matter. The lawsuit claims the school district subjected them to different treatment because they were “not Muslims and were—or perceived to be—Jewish,” and because some of them expressed Jewish and pro-Israel views inside a prayer room used by Muslim students.
&#8220;Philadelphia high school boys had their lives threatened for daring to enter a room they later learned was reserved only for Muslim students,” Lori Lowenthal Marcus, legal director of the Deborah Project, which is representing the boys, told The Daily Wire. “The School District did nothing to protect these boys and instead their actions fanned the flames of hatred against them.&#8221;
The room was labeled a “Quiet Room” with a Palestinian flag on the door on the outside, but the lawsuit describes it as a Muslim prayer space. Inside were exclusively Islamic religious images, Arabic prayers, and materials identifying the room with the school’s Muslim Student Association. In a police report following the incident, Palumbo Principal Kiana Thompson herself described the dispute as involving “a particular room designated for one religion and with a particular flag on it.” The lawsuit also alleges that the room had gender designated times for Muslim students and that the Muslim Student Association held its meetings there.

The judge’s opinion notes that the plaintiffs allege access to the room was effectively restricted to Muslim students. It also cites a large sign welcoming students to the “Prayer Room” and wishing them a “Happy Ramadan,” as well as guidelines from the Muslim Student Association.
The lawsuit says the students entered the room after seeing the door open. Several Muslim girls were inside, and the boys remained there for fewer than 10 minutes.
One of the Jewish students, M. Danowitz, said a brief Jewish prayer in Hebrew, told the girls he had a right to pray, asked why they were laughing and said he was a “proud Zionist.” Another Jewish student, identified as J2, who was recording the encounter, sang “Am Yisrael Chai,” meaning “the people of Israel live,” while Danowitz did a handstand and removed one poster and placed it on the floor.
The two non-Jewish students, identified as Hiester and Parmar, did not say anything.
The encounter was recorded on video but cannot be published because a court order protects the identities of the minors involved.
Within moments of leaving the room, the boys began facing threats from other students, according to the lawsuit. 
Hiester received 11 phone calls from A.B., a Muslim Palumbo student who had previously assaulted him and made death threats. Hiester ignored the first 11 calls but eventually answered one, at which point A.B. demanded to know where Hiester and Danowitz were because he had “unfinished business” with them and wanted to fight them. A.B. allegedly told the boys that if they did not return to school, he would come to their homes.
The lawsuit says the boys took the threats seriously because of A.B.’s history of assault and previous threats against both Hiester and Parmar. Hiester also received multiple threatening phone calls, text messages and FaceTime calls from other students who were close to A.B., according to the complaint.

Meanwhile, Parmar and J2 returned to their computer lab, where A.B. and several other students confronted them, the lawsuit says. A.B. and five other students allegedly entered the classroom, surrounded the boys and demanded to know what they had done in the prayer room, accusing them of “trashing” it. 
When one student said he had been praying, A.B. allegedly shouted, “Which religion?”
The allegations quickly grew more serious. According to the lawsuit, Thompson later told the mother of one of the students that girls inside the room had accused her son of saying he “hates Muslims,” making sexually suggestive movements, including “humping the floor,” ripping posters from the walls and trashing the room.
Two days after the incident, Philadelphia School District teacher Kristin Luebbert addressed the Board of Education, despite not teaching at Palumbo and having no firsthand knowledge of what had occurred. No District investigation had yet begun, according to the complaint.
Luebbert described the incident as an “appalling display of sacrilegious defilement” and alleged that male students had entered a prayer space where Muslim girls were gathered, ripped items from the walls, thrown prayer rugs around and “grind and writhe on the floor in an imitation of sex acts.”
“Take that in,” Luebbert told the board. “This was a planned action that included acts which any Muslim girl or woman would be deeply offended and traumatized by.”
She called on the District to publicly denounce what she described as “anti-Muslim and anti-Black hate.”
The lawsuit notes that Luebbert made her comments long before any investigation was conducted by the school and relied on rumors.
The families say the school failed to stop the allegations from spreading or adequately respond when the boys began receiving threats. When three of the students’ parents went to Palumbo seeking help, the lawsuit says that Thompson refused to meet with them because they did not have appointments. When one mother emphasized that her son was receiving threats, Thompson allegedly laughed and responded, “Well, there’s multiple sides to that story.” The complaint says Thompson then called school security and police to remove the families from the building.
The families later went to the School District&#8217;s central office, where they provided statements and showed officials the video, according to the lawsuit. The plaintiffs allege that despite being given evidence contradicting the allegations, District officials failed to adequately protect the students or correct the accusations.

The two boys were then suspended at the direction of Assistant Superintendent Richard Gordon, purportedly because they had snuck Danowitz, who was no longer a Philadelphia School District student, into the school building through a back door. The boys disputed that account, saying they had not let Danowitz into the building and that security footage supported their version of events.
Although the school had possession of that video, its leaders allegedly did not look at it before suspending the boys, which validated the rumors that the boys had trashed the prayer room and did sexual maneuvers in the room.
The judge ultimately dismissed Danowitz’s claims for damages and injunctive relief, finding that he lacked standing because he was not a member of the Palumbo school community and was on school property without permission.
But the judge found that Hiester and Parmar had sufficiently alleged a violation of their due process rights under the Fourteenth Amendment. They were never told they were being suspended for helping an unauthorized visitor enter the school. Officials only questioned them about entering the prayer room.
The two non-Jewish families said the dispute eventually drove them out of Philadelphia, so their sons could finish high school elsewhere.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court last year, alleges that the students&#8217; treatment violated their constitutional rights and that school officials discriminated against them because they were Jewish or perceived to be Jewish.
In explaining his decision, U.S. District Judge John Milton Younge wrote that “a reasonable jury could find” that school officials violated the Establishment Clause by disciplining the students for entering the prayer room. He also rejected the officials’ claim of qualified immunity, writing that their argument was “unpersuasive.”
Younge also dismissed the students’ Title VI claims without prejudice, finding that the complaint did not plausibly establish that school officials acted with antisemitic animus or that the harassment itself was antisemitic. The judge said the threats against Hiester and Parmar appeared to stem from accusations that they had desecrated the prayer room and harassed Muslim girls, rather than from their perceived Judaism.
&#8220;We&#8217;re thrilled that the judge has sustained our claims under the First Amendment&#8217;s Establishment Clause and the Due Process claim and given us leave to amend all the other claims so that this case will proceed,” Marcus said. “The injured families can now proceed to rectify what happened to them because of the failures of the Philadelphia School District to comply with the law and to protect all future students.&#8221;
The Philadelphia School District did not respond to a request for comment.

Immigrant grocery store owners are suing democratic socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani over his plan to open government-run supermarkets, arguing the mayor&#8217;s move will run them out of business.
The Multicultural Business Coalition (MBC), which is comprised of immigrant-run businesses, filed two lawsuits Monday, including one representing &#8220;hundreds&#8221; of grocers who are &#8220;members of groups historically discriminated against,&#8221; <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/24/business/immigrant-grocers-sue-mamdani-compare-nyc-plan-for-government-owned-supermarkets-to-walmart/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The New York Post. The city plans to open the first of five supermarkets next year.
MBC’s president Ken Roldan called the city&#8217;s plan &#8220;a direct assault on minority business by a mayor who claims to be a champion of disenfranchised poor and working-class New Yorkers.&#8221;
On Monday, Mamdani defended the proposal, saying he is &#8220;fully confident in both the legality and the importance of our initiative,&#8221; <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/big-apple-targeted-lawsuit-over-mamdanis-government-grocery-store-plans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox Business.
The second lawsuit alleges that the taxpayer-funded stores raise similar concerns surrounding the previous plans to open Walmarts in the Big Apple, which never came to fruition, the outlet reported. Opponents of Walmart&#8217;s New York City expansion argued that the store would similarly put small storefronts out of business.
The immigrant grocers also alleged that the city &#8220;failed to study the discriminatory effects&#8221; of the planned stores on family-owned bodegas and supermarkets run by Hispanics, Arabs, and Asians, according to The New York Post. The lawsuit asks that the city be forced to conduct such a study.
“My grandfather opened up one of the first bodegas in the late 1960s when East Harlem was burning, and the A&amp;Ps and Waldbaums were leaving,” MBC Chairman Frank Garcia said. “He established the first Latino Grocery Association to protect the rights of immigrant store owners. I am proud to be following up in his tradition because what Mayor Mamdani is doing is disgracing his memory.”
Jairo Guzman, president of the NY State Mexican Chamber of Commerce, called the immigrant-run bodegas &#8220;New York City&#8217;s great mosaic,&#8221; and said that &#8220;Mayor Mamdani needs to withdraw his disastrous plan and work with us to find different ways to bolster and sustain what so many (New York City) immigrants have created.&#8221;
“The Puerto Ricans were the bodega pioneers and they were followed by the Dominicans, the Arabs, the Koreans, the Chinese, and finally, my Mexican business members,” Guzman said.
Mamdani has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/economists-lose-their-minds-over-mamdani-supermarkets-literally-how-you-destroy-an-economy">pledged</a> that the offerings at the government-run grocery stores will be marked 30% lower than private retailers. Economists have warned that the plan would lead to supply-chain breakdowns and bare shelves.
“This is LITERALLY how you destroy an economy,” venture capitalist Shaun Maguire recently warned, adding, “This is the story of the Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. Now coming to NYC!”

Torrey Pines High School is facing a <a href="https://timesofsandiego.com/education/2026/08/21/torrey-pines-high-students-sue-discipline-pro-trump/">lawsuit</a> alleging that teachers and administrators retaliated against two students who expressed pro-Trump views during a February protest — landing one of them in a psychiatric hospital on a mandatory hold.
Two students at Torrey Pines High School — identified in the suit only as A.F. and M.F. — attended a February 6 rally on the San Diego, California, campus meant to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but showed up instead to voice support for President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/23/us-news/san-diego-high-school-attacked-students-over-pro-trump-lgbt-poster-suit/">according</a> to the New York Post. M.F. carried a printout of the letters &#8220;LGBT&#8221; — each letter paired with an image: the Statue of Liberty for &#8220;L,&#8221; a rifle for &#8220;G,&#8221; a glass of beer for &#8220;B,&#8221; and a photo of Trump for &#8220;T.&#8221;
M.F. reportedly returned to class after the rally still carrying the flyer — prompting his teacher to become upset and immediately leave the classroom. Three days later, according to the suit, Assistant Principal Angela Guerrero called M.F. and another student into her office and informed them they would serve two days of detention because the flyers had &#8220;frightened&#8221; other students on campus.
That same week, M.F. was called into the vice principal&#8217;s office alone to face more serious accusations: that he&#8217;d made &#8220;disturbing searches&#8221; on a school computer, including &#8220;how to load a Glock,&#8221; &#8220;how to load a magazine,&#8221; and &#8220;how to dispose of a body.&#8221;
M.F. denied making the searches and said other students routinely use classmates&#8217; unprotected school computer logins. Guerrero apparently believed him and sent him back to class. The next day, however, five to six police officers arrived at the school and interrogated M.F. themselves.
&#8220;School officials refused to allow M.F.’s parents to see him, instead requiring them to speak with a crisis social worker. The crisis social worker stated that [M.F.’s teacher] requested the police because the searches made Defendant [Theresa] Barnes feel ‘scared’ and ‘unsafe,'&#8221; the suit claims.
M.F. was then taken into custody, and police delivered him to a mental health facility on a 5150 psychiatric hold.
While he was being held overnight, law enforcement executed a search of his home and his bedroom — but they found nothing to support the accusations against him.
&#8220;M.F. did not research how to load a ‘glock,’ did not confess to murder, was not watching homicide videos, and did not target the LGBT community. The claims were completely false, as school officials were fully aware,&#8221; the suit states.
The harassment, according to M.F., did not end there. Although police found nothing and he was allowed to return to school, administrators referred to him as an &#8220;LGBT bully,&#8221; barred him from playing varsity baseball, forced him into counseling sessions, and pushed him toward testing for &#8220;Special Education placement and ongoing mental health monitoring.&#8221;
The same school landed in hot water over a different protest when students were allowed to carry signs comparing ICE to the KKK — but one student was suspended over flyers that read, &#8220;We love I.C.E. — real Americans.&#8221; That suspension was later reversed by the district following pressure from the free speech group FIRE.

Despite playing preseason football for NFL teams, a group of players just got permission to return to college football — at least while their case against the NCAA plays out in court. 
Sixteen former college players, including several players still on NFL rosters, joined a group of other athletes in a lawsuit against the NCAA in Louisiana after the organization changed its eligibility rules to allow athletes to compete for five seasons within a five-year period, instead of four seasons during a five-year period. However, players finishing their fourth season under the old rules were not automatically granted the opportunity to return for a fifth season. A judge issued a temporary restraining order on Wednesday, allowing the professional athletes to return to college for another season.
NCAA officials criticized the ruling and pointed out that it&#8217;s part of numerous court decisions that are stripping opportunities from incoming freshmen &#8220;who will never have a chance to begin their collegiate sports experience.&#8221;
&#8220;Courts across the country granting relief to ineligible athletes who already had every opportunity to compete in college — sometimes without even having a hearing — are failing to appreciate the destabilizing effect their rulings are having on college sports,&#8221; said NCAA senior vice president Tim Buckley. &#8220;The lawyers bringing these cases seemingly won&#8217;t be satisfied until every professional athlete can treat college sports as a fallback option, regardless of the opportunities it strips from those who will never have a chance to begin their collegiate sports experience.&#8221;
If the NFL rookies are released from their pro teams by September 1, they could be back on college football fields this fall thanks to Wednesday&#8217;s ruling. The list of plaintiffs includes three former Ole Miss starters who signed with NFL teams this summer, but several of the players have expressed interest in being released from their NFL contracts to return to college. Dae&#8217;Quan Wright is currently on the Cleveland Browns&#8217; roster after he was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles, while Wydett Williams is on the roster for the Arizona Cardinals. Zxavian Harris was waived by the New Orleans Saints earlier this month and is not on an NFL roster.
One incentive for returning to college is the money now available to players through NIL — name, image, and likeness — opportunities. While individual NIL earnings are generally not publicly disclosed, an NIL payout for a starting player at Ole Miss typically <a href="https://thenilstandard.com/football/insights/ole-miss-roster-valuation-2026">ranges</a> from $150,000 to more than $5 million. College athletes were able to start making money from NIL beginning in 2021.
Former LSU edge rusher Jack Pyburn, South Carolina safety DQ Smith, James Madison linebacker Trent Hendrick, and Notre Dame defensive lineman Junior Tuihalamaka were also notable players on the list. Pyburn is currently on the Buccaneers, and Smith was waived by the Denver Broncos in May. Hendrick and Tuihalamaka are not currently on an NFL roster. 
While the temporary restraining order gives the plaintiffs relief from NCAA restrictions that could otherwise prevent them from entering the transfer portal or returning after signing professional contracts, the order is temporary and does not represent a final victory for the players. Their long-term eligibility will ultimately depend on what happens as the case is litigated.

Controversy Erupts As NFL Players Allowed To Return To College Football

A former Columbia University student who went viral in 2024 after saying “Zionists don’t deserve to live” during a livestream of a disciplinary meeting has lost his lawsuit against the university.
Khymani James initially accused Columbia of discriminating against him because of his race and support for Palestinians, violating his rights under New York and New York City human rights laws, and failing to follow its own disciplinary procedures when it suspended him.
James’ suit then argued that Columbia violated his “Tedeschi rights,” which stem from a 1980 New York case requiring private universities to comply with their own disciplinary procedures. He also argued that the university punished him twice for conduct related to his January livestream and allowed outside pressure to influence its disciplinary decisions.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Waterman-Marshall dismissed James’ complaint on July 3, 2026, ruling that he could not pursue his “Tedeschi rights” claim as a standalone lawsuit and that he had failed to adequately plead his discrimination claims.
During the 2024 livestream of a meeting with Columbia’s Center for Student Success and Intervention, which had summoned James to discuss earlier antisemitic comments, he said “there should not be Zionists anywhere” and “the world is better without them,” while comparing killing Zionists to killing Adolf Hitler.
James was initially placed on disciplinary probation after Columbia determined in April 2024 that he violated university policies by livestreaming a January disciplinary meeting without permission and using language that “denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward group members of a protected class.” The probation period allowed him to continue his academic progress on the condition that further violations could lead to additional disciplinary action.
Columbia then <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/columbia-student-who-said-zionists-dont-deserve-to-live-reportedly-expelled">suspended</a> him one day after The Daily Wire reported his comments on April 25 of that year. At the time, James was participating in the university’s ongoing anti-Israel encampment, where he served as a media liaison and “member of the safety team.”
His request to re-enroll for the fall 2025 semester was denied because of what Columbia described as “insufficient” reflection on the conduct that led to his suspension.
In the <a href="https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=0K3TnfssbAWThf6ypw0QoA==">lawsuit</a>, James claims the university only suspended him to save face amid national backlash.
“The timing and language of the sanction letter makes it clear that Columbia acted in response to external forces and national media attention,” the suit stated. “The university is allowing external forces, applying pressure to it, to dictate outcomes in individual student disciplinary cases.”
When announcing the lawsuit, James accused Columbia of discrimination, as well as “cowering” to “billionaire donors” and “fascist politicians.” In a follow-up tweet, he posted a picture of himself flipping off the camera on a jet ski.

Since leaving Columbia, James has continued making incendiary statements, including posts that appeared to praise the killing of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk in September.
On the day Kirk was assassinated, James tweeted a heart-eye emoji alongside “down with all the fascists” and “More. MORE!!!”

Rep. Virginia Foxx, the former chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, <a href="https://x.com/virginiafoxx/status/1966508008818786572?s=46&amp;t=ghpHusspWPjTMisXwpsMaA">responded</a> to his posts accusing the school of failing to suspend him despite the university telling her he would be. 
“He was not expelled. Nothing was done. [Columbia] you have failed again, again, and again,” Foxx posted.
Columbia <a href="https://x.com/Columbia/status/1966522072173093107">responded</a> by confirming that James has been barred from campus since April 2024 and that he is not a registered student.
James responded by <a href="https://www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2026/02/10/suspended-cuad-member-khymani-james-sues-rep-virginia-foxx-r-nc-alleging-first-amendment-violations/">filing a lawsuit</a> against Foxx accusing her of using her position of power to punish him for his “First Amendment-protected criticism of Israel and the Palestinian people” by obtaining his expulsion from Columbia.

In April 2026, James claimed he was temporarily prevented from re-entering the U.S. from Canada after he refused to allow Customs and Border Protection officers to search his electronic devices. He accused officials of targeting him for his pro-Palestinian activism, calling the situation “crazy, lame, and ILLEGAL AS F*CK” and adding, “I’m a CITIZEN, HOE!” James later said he had returned to the U.S. without surrendering his devices and thanked his “friends and comrades” for helping him get back safely.

The events that led to James’ lawsuit against Columbia began after he posted on social media that Zionists who wanted to “meet up and fight” should know that he “fights to kill.” According to James’ lawsuit, he made the comments after receiving hateful messages over his support for Palestinians and said he intended to deter people from harming him.
Columbia’s Center for Student Success and Intervention then summoned James to a January 9 meeting to discuss complaints about his posts. According to the lawsuit, James livestreamed the meeting because he felt endangered and wanted to show what he viewed as Columbia’s repression of pro-Palestinian students and people of color.
During the meeting, James said he was “very comfortable” calling for Zionists to die and compared killing Zionists to killing Nazis, fascists, and racists.
“Zionists don’t deserve to live comfortably, let alone Zionists don’t deserve to live,” James said. “The same way we are very comfortable accepting Nazis don’t deserve to live, fascists don’t deserve to live, racists don’t deserve to live, Zionists, they shouldn’t live in this world.”

James was barred from Columbia’s campuses and prevented from completing the semester, according to the lawsuit. The suit also claimed that no other student was suspended that day for participating in the encampment, though other students were suspended on different days.
In a since-deleted April <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/columbia-student-claims-he-misspoke-after-repeatedly-calling-for-zionists-to-die-in-hour-long-livestream">post on X</a>, James claimed he “misspoke” when he repeatedly called for Zionists to die in the January livestream.
In May, James received another letter for participating in a “human chain” at the encampment. A viral video showed James directing protesters to push pro-Israel students out of the encampment. The lawsuit states James was “reasonably engaged in peaceful self help” in this incident.

James received a letter in August notifying him that he was suspended for the academic year for his participation in the human chain, the suit states. James has received death threats and suffered from anxiety, fear, and depression since his suspension, the suit claims.
The lawsuit then launches into a tirade against the House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce, comparing its hearings on college antisemitism to bringing “a new form orf [sic] McCarthyism to the American scene.
The Daily Wire attempted to reach James for comment only to learn he has blocked this reporter.

A Radical Columbia Student Threatened The Lives Of Zionists. A Judge Just Tossed His Lawsuit.

A group of parents is suing the Palo Alto Unified School District and Brent Kline, principal of Palo Alto High School, in federal court, alleging the school&#8217;s &#8220;Social Justice Pathway&#8221; turned a class field trip to a Santa Clara mosque into taxpayer-funded religious indoctrination.
The <a href="https://padailypost.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/1-27.pdf">suit</a>, filed August 7 in the Northern District of California, centers on a fall 2025 visit to the Muslim Community Association mosque in Santa Clara. According to the complaint, students were encouraged to don Islamic religious attire, given Qurans to take home, and observed a midday prayer service.
Ten individual plaintiffs and an advocacy group, Community Members for Religious Neutrality in Public Schools — San Francisco Bay Area, brought the case. Eight are Jewish; the Hindu and Zoroastrian plaintiffs live in neighboring communities and do not have children enrolled at Palo Alto. The complaint alleges that the mosque is the only house of worship the program visits, and alleges its website has promoted both the school visits and local religious conversions.
&#8220;[T]he District failed to maintain religious neutrality, failed to ensure equal treatment among faiths, failed to protect student privacy, and failed to vet, supervise, and monitor religiously divisive outside speakers during the school-sponsored event,&#8221; the filing claims.
The Pathway is a <a href="https://www.paly.net/learning/programs-pathways/social-justice-pathway">three-year course track</a> open to Palo Alto High students beginning sophomore year. The complaint alleges that during the mosque visit, students were exposed to Zahra Billoo, executive director of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), whom the filing describes as a &#8220;controversial outside speaker with publicly documented hostile statements concerning Jews.&#8221; Billoo, the suit says, &#8220;was allowed unfettered access to students to advocate personal religious and political views without balancing perspective or adequate supervision.&#8221;
Billoo <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/palo-alto-high-mosque-trip-lawsuit-22389399.php">told</a> the San Francisco Chronicle the suit was &#8220;misguided,&#8221; saying students who observed prayer were taught about Islamic religious practices and that participation was voluntary. &#8220;One of the most important ways we combat hate is to learn about each other,&#8221; she said, adding that she believed the plaintiffs were trying to intimidate districts out of that work.
The filing states that &#8220;students were photographed during the visit by the Islamic institution hosting the event in a manner that promoted participation in Islamic customs,&#8221; and that &#8220;identifiable student images taken inside the mosque while students wore religious attire later were publicly posted for promotional and/or community-facing purposes.&#8221; Parents, the suit alleges, were never given meaningful informed consent for the photography or its publication, nor were they given a meaningful opt-out.
Superintendent Jason Glass told the Chronicle the district learned through news coverage and has not been served. Glass said he had read the complaint but that the district could not verify its allegations, adding that any instruction touching religion must be academic rather than devotional. He said the district is reviewing its practices.
The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and seek declaratory relief, an injunction barring the district from sponsoring similar activities, an order requiring defendants to remove the student images to the extent they can, nominal damages, and attorneys&#8217; fees.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has kept its X2 roller coaster shut down for over a month after a rider was found unconscious.
The park in Valencia, California, took the ride offline on July 5 when the Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene. 
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health has since opened an inspection, though it has declined to release any details while the review continues.
A spokesman for the park confirmed only that X2 is not running, saying, “We hope to get the ride back up as soon as possible. We do not have an estimated time of when X2 will be reopening.” 
The park has given no further explanation about why the coaster remains closed or whether any safety or maintenance work is necessary. It has also not disclosed anything about the condition of the rider involved in the July incident.
X2 is billed as one of the most intense roller coasters in the world and the first to deliver a fourth-dimension experience. Riders sit in seats that spin a full 360 degrees and reach out on wings away from the track. 
The course includes face-down drops and hits 76 miles per hour along its 3,610-foot track. The park calls it a rite of passage for the ultimate daredevil, the kind of ride that leaves even the most hardened thrill seeker screaming. It opened as X in 2002 and was later renamed X2.
The shutdown comes as a separate case involving the X2 roller coaster moves toward trial. A Garden Grove family has alleged that their 22-year-old son, Christopher Hawley, suffered a catastrophic brain bleed after riding X2 in June 2022. 
According to the lawsuit, the coaster suddenly and violently jolted to a halt while Hawley was riding. After the ride, he said his head hurt, then grabbed a rail to keep himself up before he went down and lost consciousness. He was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and died the next day. A jury trial is set to begin in September.

These items were all sent to the home of journalists David and Ina Steiner by executives of one of the world’s largest e-commerce platforms. The packages were an attempt to scare them into silence and to stop reporting on the e-commerce company’s business practices.
The Steiners sued, and after over a decade in the courts, they have won their case.
On Tuesday, eBay agreed to pay the Massachusetts couple nearly $50 million after former employees terrorized the bloggers in a 2019 harassment campaign.
Since 2012, Ina Steiner, with her husband David’s help, has hosted the newsletter eCommerce Bytes, unveiling to readers important updates about services such as Amazon and eBay.
She has been critical of many of eBay’s corporate decisions, <a href="https://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/pl/2019/4/1554870735.html">reporting</a> in 2019 on issues such as former eBay CEO Devin Wenig earning 152 times more than normal employees.
In response, eBay employees reportedly became angered by the Steiners’ reporting and conspired to &#8220;intimidate, threaten to kill, torture, terrorize, stalk and silence them,&#8221; Fox News <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/ebay-pay-nearly-50m-after-ex-employees-allegedly-terrorized-couple-cockroach-fetal-pig-packages">reports</a>.
Some employees named in the lawsuit were former CEO Devin Wenig, former Chief Communications Officer Steve Wymer, and former Senior Vice President Wendy Jones.
Along with sending anonymous packages with disturbing contents, employees sent pornographic magazines addressed to David Steiner to a neighbor&#8217;s home in an attempt to smear the image of the couple in their community.
The Steiners also received a host of threatening direct messages online. The lawsuit even alleged that eBay employees tried to plant a GPS tracking device on the couple’s vehicle.
In the settlement, the Steiners are slated to receive $48.7 million in compensation. This comprises $46.15 million from eBay itself, $2 million from Wenig, $500,000 from Jones, and $50,000 from Wymer.
The company will finance $6 million in donations to various nonprofits, and Wenig will pay $1 million to a charity committed to protecting First Amendment rights on Ina Steiner’s behalf.
eBay has posted a statement disavowing the actions of its former executives and employees.
“What the Steiners were subjected to by former eBay employees in 2019 was wrong, reprehensible, and should never have happened,” eBay <a href="https://www.ebayinc.com/stories/news/ebay-statement-regarding-agreement-with-ina-and-david-steiner/">said</a> in a statement. “We condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the employees who perpetrated and pled guilty to criminal charges for the misconduct against Ina and David Steiner. We also acknowledge the unprofessional tone in internal communications demonstrated, to different degrees and number, by Mr. Wenig, Mr. Wymer, and Ms. Jones.”
“We continue to extend our deepest apologies to the Steiners,” eBay added. “This agreement is consistent with our commitment to fairly compensate the Steiners and fulfills our efforts to make things right.”
The couple <a href="https://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/pl/2026/7/1785201549.html">posted</a> about their win on their eCommerce Bytes website and shared the testimony of their lawyer Chris Murphy.
&#8220;This case was always about more than obtaining financial recovery,” Murphy said in the statement. “From the beginning, our clients wanted to uncover the truth, protect journalists and publishers, hold those responsible accountable, deter future corporate misconduct, and help ensure others would never have to endure what they experienced.”
“We believe this resolution sends a clear message that corporations and their executives cannot engage in this type of misconduct without facing significant consequences,&#8221; Murphy added.
Devin Wenig has reached out to the Daily Wire and denied any knowledge of the harassment campaign.
“The harassment was deliberately done in secret and without my knowledge, as established by an independent law firm review, a federal probe, and the sworn testimony of the security employee convicted as the ‘ringleader.’” Wenig said in a statement. “This behavior is antithetical to everything I sand for and believe in.”

Washington residents who received certain promotional emails from Costco between June 2021 and July 2026 may be eligible for compensation under a proposed $14 million <a href="https://www.washingtoncommercialemailsettlement.com/">class action settlement.</a>
Under the proposed deal in Aaland v. Costco Wholesale Corp., Costco <a href="https://www.classaction.org/media/costco-settlement_1.pdf">agreed</a> to create a $14 million settlement fund while denying any wrongdoing.
“In agreeing to settle, Costco maintains that it complied with the law and does not admit any wrongdoing,” the document states.
The lawsuit claims that Costco used deceptive subject lines that created a false sense of urgency, including phrases like &#8220;Today is the last day to access Member-Only Savings&#8221; and &#8220;Hot Buys available for 5 Days Only.&#8221; 
According to the lawsuit, Costco continued offering some of the same promotions after telling customers they were about to expire, allegedly violating Washington’s Commercial Electronic Mail Act (CEMA) and the state&#8217;s Consumer Protection Act, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/28/lifestyle/costco-customers-could-claim-500-in-class-action-settlement/">reports</a>.
Washington residents whose email addresses are in Costco&#8217;s records and who received the promotional emails between June 2021 and July 2026 may be eligible to file a claim. 
Claim forms must be submitted by August 24, 2026. Those who wish to pursue their own lawsuit rather than participate in the settlement must opt out by the same deadline, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/costco-shoppers-eligible-large-payout-multi-million-dollar-email-settlement">reports</a>.
Eligible claimants may receive up to $500 each qualifying email, though the actual payout will depend on the number of valid claims submitted and other court-approved deductions from the $14 million fund.
Costco also faces several other lawsuits over its products and business practices. A lawsuit filed earlier this month <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/09/business/costco-faces-class-action-lawsuit-alleging-protein-powder-was-laced-with-toxic-heavy-metals/">alleges</a> that one of Costco’s protein powders contains toxic heavy metals, while another <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/10/business/costco-fights-lawsuit-tied-to-5-rotisserie-chicken/">accuses</a> the company of falsely advertising its rotisserie chicken as containing “no preservatives.” 
A separate <a href="https://www.king5.com/video/news/costco-sued-over-claims-it-raised-prices/281-22d011e2-4918-4c67-abd2-357031c9fd03">lawsuit</a> alleges Costco continued charging higher prices tied to tariffs even after the tariffs were struck down.

Johnson &amp; Johnson announced on Monday it will be paying $5.5 billion to settle 76,000 lawsuit claims that its talc baby powder caused ovarian cancer.
Lawsuits about J&amp;J’s talc-based baby powder have entrenched the company in legal battles for the past 15 years. J&amp;J has settled similar lawsuits alleging that the baby powder contained asbestos and thus caused mesothelioma, but had not previously settled the ovarian cancer claims.  
This agreement came after a federal court <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/us-judge-casts-doubt-69000-cases-alleging-jj-talc-caused-cancer-2026-07-22/">decision</a> on July 22 decreed that most claimants could not effectively tie the Johnson &amp; Johnson baby powder to their ovarian cancer.
“[The court confirmed] what we have maintained for years: that these claims lack scientific merit and were sustained only by unreliable expert opinions that could not survive rigorous judicial review,” Erik Haas, Johnson &amp; Johnson’s Worldwide Vice President of Litigation, <a href="https://www.jnj.com/media-center/press-releases/johnson-johnson-announces-a-proposed-resolution-of-ovarian-talc-litigation">said</a> in a statement. “While we are confident the Company would have ultimately prevailed with further litigation… this resolution allows the Company to put this matter behind it and remain focused on its mission to develop medicines and devices that save lives.”
Johnson &amp; Johnson repeated in its statement that the lawsuits were “meritless” and said that “Studies show talc is safe, does not contain asbestos and does not cause cancer.” 
Chris Seeger, an attorney representing about 2,500 plaintiffs with talc claims, <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/johnson-johnson-agrees-pay-5-5b-settle-talc-lawsuits">told</a> Fox News that he helped negotiate the settlement. He also stated that J&amp;J could actually pay $7 billion or more because the settlement does not put a cap on the total payout but rather assigns specific values to qualifying ovarian cancer claims.
&#8220;We got a fair settlement, and our clients are going to be happy with it,&#8221; Seeger <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/johnson-johnson-announces-55-billion-settlement-talc-lawsuits-2026-07-27/">said</a> in an interview with Reuters.
Johnson &amp; Johnson plans to pay $3 billion of the $5.5 billion settlement in 2027 and the remainder in 2028 or later. 95% of claimants must agree to the settlement before it can take effect.
The company previously attempted a legal strategy to have shell-company subsidiaries declare bankruptcy in order to settle these cancer cases, but that proved unsuccessful.
J&amp;J switched its baby powder recipe from talc to a cornstarch-based product in 2020.
