In a recent interview on MSNBC, President Joe Biden took another shot at red states, claiming they “really screwed up in terms of the way they handled their economy.”
Biden told MSNBC&#8217;s Lawrence O&#8217;Donnell, “I got a lot of criticism, understandably. We’ve invested more in red states than blue states. &#8230; For two reasons. One: red states really screwed up in terms of the way they handled their economy, the way they handle manufacturing and the way they handle supply chains.”
Biden then launched into one of his stories that may or may not have been apocryphal: “You know, I remember being out in Iowa, and I remember one of the big issues was there was a plant, a small plant of 300 people, been around for 70 years; my grandfather worked there, I worked there, my son works there, and they had the best education system at the time and made it the best state education system in the country, and all of a sudden the kid comes home after he graduates and says, ‘Mom, I gotta leave. There’s no job for me here. The factory shut down.’ Well, guess what? How do you run a country that way? How do you do that?”

Biden’s jab at red states simply does not comport with reality. As The Republican National Committee <a href="https://gop.com/research/red-states-are-outperforming-blue-states/">pointed</a> out last September, Labor Department data showed that through last August, “16 of the top 20 states for jobs recovered since the coronavirus pandemic began are led by Republican governors, and 16 of the states have Republican-controlled legislatures. Out of the top 10 states with the least jobs recovered, eight are Democrat-led. Republican-led states, on average, have recovered 143 percent of their lost jobs compared to just 118 percent for Democrat-run states.

MSNBC Political Analyst Molly Jong-Fast threw a swanky party, packed with liberal media figures, to celebrate writer E. Jean Carroll being awarded a staggering <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/court-fines-trump-83-3-million-over-eight-times-lawsuits-request-in-e-jean-carroll-defamation-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$83 million</a> judgment in her defamation case against former President Donald Trump.
Carroll has already turned heads with her behavior, both before and immediately following the trial. Earlier this week, Carroll laughed through an appearance on MSNBC and appeared to joke about a lavish shopping spree and even <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/penthouse-its-yours-e-jean-carroll-quips-about-spending-spree-with-trump-judgment-cash" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a penthouse for host Rachel Maddow</a>.
MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell, New York Times opinion writer Lydia Polgreen, The Washington Post&#8217;s Sarah Ellison, former ABC News correspondent Tara Palmeri, and Saturday Night Live producer Marci Klein were some of the media figures in attendance at the party, <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13031161/E-Jean-Carroll-NYC-party-liberal-media-trump-defamation-83m.html">according</a> to the Daily Mail.
Over the weekend, Carroll told ABC’s &#8220;Good Morning America&#8221; that she wants to spend the judgment money on &#8220;something Donald Trump hates.&#8221;
&#8220;If it&#8217;ll cause him pain for me to give money to certain things, that&#8217;s my intent,&#8221; she said, adding that she wants to start a &#8220;fund for the women who have been sexually assaulted by Donald Trump.&#8221;
Conservative journalist and podcast host Megyn Kelly earlier this week took issue with the media&#8217;s positioning on the case from the very start.
“Let’s just entertain for a minute that Trump is the truth-teller, here,” Kelly said, “that Trump actually has no memory of this person, and certainly didn’t sexually assault her, and that she really is some sort of a kook who decided to make up a story about him to get her name in the headlines, to potentially get money from a deep-pocketed guy.”
She continued, “The media has zero appetite for entertaining that possibility.”
Kelly also noted that Trump was never criminally convicted for an assault against Carroll, but a civil jury decided it was more likely than not that Trump assaulted her.

“[Carroll] couldn’t even remember when it happened,” Kelly added. “She didn’t have a police report; she didn’t have a medical report; she had nothing other than two friends who said, ‘yeah she mentioned it at the time.&#8217;”
Trump has maintained that he never assaulted Carroll and didn’t know her. Throughout the trial, he published social media posts criticizing the writer.
In one instance, he posted a viral video of Carroll speaking to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper about rape being largely viewed as a “fantasy.” Cooper looks visibly uncomfortable during the exchange and cuts to break. “Can you believe I have to defend myself against this woman’s fake story?” Trump captioned the video.

MSNBC anchor <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/lawrence-odonnell/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lawrence O&#8217;Donnell</a> compared embattled Senate candidate <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/john-fetterman/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John Fetterman</a> (D-PA) to former British Prime Minister <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/winston-churchill/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Winston Churchill</a> and former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during a recent monologue.
O&#8217;Donnell, during Wednesday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The Last Word,&#8221; suggested that Fetterman&#8217;s apparent struggles in the aftermath of a stroke were no different than the physical issues that plagued Roosevelt after he battled polio myelitis at the age of 39. The only real difference in his mind was the fact that Roosevelt did not have cameras on him at all times.

O&#8217;Donnell began with a clip of Fetterman&#8217;s debate with Republican Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz — a debate that he noted many had said was &#8220;painful to watch&#8221; — before he launched into the comparison.
&#8220;While he was brilliantly winning World War II, Franklin Roosevelt once fell asleep in the oval office in the middle of signing his name to a letter. That was not painful to watch because no one got to see that,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell began, noting that both Roosevelt and Churchill &#8220;had the good fortune&#8221; to lead their respective nations during a time when most of their day to day activities remained private: &#8220;Long before television news could cover their every move and long before Twitter could have people pumping out of their instant reactions to their public appearances.&#8221;
O&#8217;Donnell <a href="https://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/kevin-tober/2022/10/26/msnbcs-odonnell-compares-john-fetterman-fdr-winston-churchill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went on</a> to describe the lengths to which <a href="https://www.fdrlibrary.org/polio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Roosevelt</a> went to ensure that the American people would never know that their president could not walk on his own — he often used a cane and leaned on an adviser if he had to make his way to a podium to speak, and had his personal wheelchair made from a regular kitchen chair so that it would look less out-of-place.
&#8220;Franklin Delano Roosevelt believed that it would be painful to watch him, being lifted in and out of a car by Secret Service agents so he never allowed cameras to capture that. Elaborate steps were taken when his train would arrive or depart so that he could be transferred from the car to the train, lifted in and out, without anyone seeing and without anyone thinking that it was painful to watch,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell continued.
The MSNBC host told another story about Roosevelt for good measure, talking about a young girl who had noticed the president&#8217;s wheelchair and said that she would keep the president&#8217;s secret.
&#8220;Painful to watch quickly became an oft-repeated phrase on Twitter last night during the Pennsylvania Senate campaign debate because Democratic candidate John Fetterman suffered a stroke this spring and has not fully recovered 100 percent of his verbal fluency,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell concluded.

Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) said during an MSNBC interview Wednesday night that the skyrocketing inflation that is happening during President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration is one reason why women need to be able to have abortions.
When asked during an appearance on &#8220;The Last Word&#8221; with Lawrence O&#8217;Donnell how inflation compares to the issue of abortion on the campaign trail, Porter said, &#8220;Well, I don&#8217;t think they compare, I think they actually reinforce each other.&#8221;

Politico has revealed President Joe Biden’s favorite television talk show host is MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell, host of the network’s 10 p.m. show “The Last Word” — adding that the anchor won the president’s favor, because he is less likely to ask probing or exacting questions than other hosts on the network.
Biden has kept a lower media profile than any president in recent memory, continuing his successful strategy of avoiding press scrutiny that proved pivotal to winning the 2020 presidential election. This has included the left-leaning MSNBC, which features staples like “Morning Joe” and Rachel Maddow, and which cultivated a famously friendly relationship with the Obama administration.
“One former campaign official said [President Biden’s] absence from those programs was due to the fear that they could get hammered from the left,” <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/lawrence-odonnell-became-white-houses-093027773.html">reported</a> Politico, which noted the president believed that other anchors at the network would furnish him with “friendlier treatment.” When Joe Biden “wanted to appear on MSNBC’s more highly-rated prime-time programming, he opted for O’Donnell, whom multiple former Biden campaign staffers said he favored because of their personal relationship and belief that their mutually-shared time in Congress made for a less potentially contentious interview.”
That is, O’Donnell will test the president’s resolve less than anyone else in cable news. That comes as a relief to the frequently tongue-tied and gaffe-prone commander-in-chief.
Sources told Politico that Biden had developed a nearly teacher-student relationship with O’Donnell while the journalist served as a legislative aide to the late liberal lion Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY). “Lawrence is a student of the Senate and Biden is a professor,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) told Politico.
O’Donnell’s program has defended the Biden administration more sycophantically than virtually any program on the heavily pro-Biden network. While other programs compared Biden’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-administration-this-is-not-saigon-cnn-its-worse-than-saigon">evacuation of Kabul to the fall of Saigon</a> or described his policy as “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/incompetence-and-failure-and-disorganization-msnbc-takes-aim-at-bidens-withdrawal-fiasco-by-ben-johnson">incompetence, and failure, and disorganization, and lies</a>,” O’Donnell gave a full-throated defense to the president’s actions. “An unnamed American military source in Afghanistan was quoted as saying what we are seeing now in the American evacuation of Afghanistan is worse, much worse, than what we saw in 1975 in the American evacuation from Vietnam after we lost the war there,” he complained. “The problem with that kind of quote is that any unnamed military source in Afghanistan tonight is too young to remember the Vietnam War and was probably not born yet when we evacuated Vietnam in 1975, and so that source literally does not know what he or she is talking about.”</blockquote>
O’Donnell also defended Biden on the domestic front. Even as inflation mounted and stores limited their hours due to a lack of labor, O’Donnell <a href="https://twitter.com/Lawrence/status/1428532291370995719">gushed</a>: “The Biden economic recovery is so positive that economists are reaching for new words to describe it. Like ‘wonderful.’”

Biden has rewarded O’Donnell in kind: The only interview Biden has granted MSNBC during his presidency went to O’Donnell, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bunker-mentality-biden-has-done-six-times-less-press-interviews-than-trump-as-president">on May 13</a>. Biden also <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqXyqUfDkgs">appeared</a> on O’Donnell’s first show; Vice President Kamala Harris granted an interview for his 10th anniversary program.
O’Donnell’s close relationship with the White House has done little to improve his ratings. O’Donnell had the luck of the Irish in competing against CNN’s Don Lemon, whom he had <a href="https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/november-21-ratings-msnbc-is-losing-total-viewers-but-remains-a-top-5-cable-network/494771/">beaten 78 straight months</a> as of November. Yet both finish well behind “The Ingraham Angle,” hosted by Laura Ingraham, on Fox News, an outspoken critic of the president.

Joy Reid: Republicans Must Stop Criticizing Biden’s Afghanistan Exit Because Of Covid
Of all cable TV hosts, MSNBC’s Joy Reid has perhaps most consistently defended President Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, spending much of last week giving the president political cover. Last Monday, she blamed the debacle on President Donald Trump’s withdrawal agreement. Then, on last  Tuesday’s episode of “The ReidOut,” she engaged in a perplexing fit of whataboutism, claiming Republicans have no right to criticize the humanitarian disaster because of last year’s global COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Republican Party has seized on these moments to score political points,” she said:
<blockquote>Take, for example, Texas Representative Michael McCaul, who told CNN that Biden will, quote, have blood on his hands for what they did. This is the same man who represents a state where more than 54,000 people have died from COVID.
Tell me, Congressman, does Governor Abbott have blood on his hands for his abandonment of the people of the Lone Star State? What about the 626,000 Americans who died of COVID because of Donald Trump?</blockquote>
She concluded that the GOP&#8217;s “newfound outrage” over the unfolding international humanitarian crisis “just stinks of political opportunism.”
Chris Cuomo: Biden’s Debacle Caused by ‘The Trump Deal’
On “Cuomo Prime Time,” Chris Cuomo expanded the context of Biden’s debacle wide enough to cast blame on President Donald Trump. “Don&#8217;t judge this exit in a vacuum. That would be a mistake. It&#8217;s not as simple as Biden botching the exit, or Trump pandering to you, the public, by foolishly making a deal with the Taliban, to exit,” he said:
<blockquote>Now, you want to deal with the instant situation? Fine. We are here right now, because Biden carried forward with the Trump deal made with the Taliban, to exit, and didn&#8217;t do it well. … Mike Pompeo wound up cutting the deal with the Taliban, to leave, so no talk from him, about Biden cozying up to the bad guys. You made a deal with them. You met with the lead Taliban negotiator last year, after the Trump Administration had released him from prison. So, again, enough with the noise, and the politics, and the blame. You made the deal, because the American people were in favor of getting out. … The bigger question is whether or not this was inevitable.</blockquote>
Cuomo did not explain why President Biden did not renegotiate such a calamitous deal, nor how the deal forced him to execute the evacuation in a way that will likely leave U.S. citizens stranded inside an Islamic theocracy during the August 16 episode.

Lawrence O’Donnell worried that comparing President Biden’s flawed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-administration-this-is-not-saigon-cnn-its-worse-than-saigon">evacuation of Kabul to the fall of Saigon</a> “could become one of America’s enduring lies to itself about Afghanistan.” He minimized the intensity of the international crisis on MSNBC&#8217;s “The Last Word” by saying, in effect, that at least it isn’t as bad as Vietnam.
The Harvard-educated O’Donnell, who never served in the military, asserted that he knew more about geostrategic issues than military brass and an elected U.S. senator because he is likely older than they are.
“An unnamed American military source in Afghanistan was quoted as saying what we are seeing now in the American evacuation of Afghanistan is worse, much worse, than what we saw in 1975 in the American evacuation from Vietnam after we lost the war there,” he complained. “The problem with that kind of quote is that any unnamed military source in Afghanistan tonight is too young to remember the Vietnam War and was probably not born yet when we evacuated Vietnam in 1975, and so that source literally does not know what he or she is talking about.”
He also argued that Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) could not comment intelligently on the fall of Saigon, since “Sasse was three years old in 1975.” By that logic, O’Donnell couldn’t possibly comment on the evils of slavery.
O’Donnell stated that the Vietnam Conflict caused more deaths than Afghanistan and that “we left behind all sorts of people who helped us in Vietnam” — something that increasingly appears likely to take place in Afghanistan, as well.
CNN: Joe Biden Has Done &#8216;An Extremely Good Job&#8217;
Former Bush-Cheney strategist Matthew Dowd, who has since aligned himself with the Democratic Party, has repeatedly extolled President Joe Biden&#8217;s handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal. &#8220;I actually applauded the president from the very beginning about Afghanistan,&#8221; he told CNN&#8217;s Erin Burnett. &#8220;He was dealt a horrible situation. And as of today, he&#8217;s done an extremely good job in this situation.&#8221; To bolster his argument, he said that many people believed there was &#8220;no possible way&#8221; the president could evacuate 50,000 people; it is unclear who made this assertion.
Dowd did not address the fact that removing U.S. citizens and our allies from the nation became far more difficult thanks to the president&#8217;s decision to remove all military forces from Afghanistan before flying out civilians from the Taliban-dominated regions of the country.
&#8220;I think the president&#8217;s done unbelievable yeoman&#8217;s work,&#8221; he added on Tuesday, August 24.
Dowd and Brian Stelter joined forces to bash the media&#8217;s depiction of the collapse of Kabul on the August 22 episode of &#8220;Reliable Sources.&#8221; Stelter called the media&#8217;s coverage of the Biden administration &#8220;scathing,&#8221; adding &#8220;I heard complaints from Biden&#8217;s aides about this.&#8221;
&#8220;Has the coverage been out of proportion, out of step with the American public?&#8221; he asked Dowd.
&#8220;Way over the top and unconnected to a perspective on the issue,&#8221; Dowd replied. &#8220;The press has a tendency to judge things by anecdotes and not the data.&#8221;
CNN: ‘This is not Saigon 1975’
CNN also downplayed the severity of the ill-planned U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan by saying that it would not likely harm the odds of President Biden being reelected, unlike Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. “In contrast to Vietnam, Afghanistan was not a debate that raged on the streets of America. As a result, the odds that this weekend&#8217;s events will make or break Biden&#8217;s administration seem small,” <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/17/opinions/saigon-afghanistan-biden-withdrawal-zelizer/index.html">wrote</a> CNN political analyst Julian Zelizer.
“What Biden can&#8217;t do is to allow the challenges with Afghanistan to take his energy and attention away from real wartime test that he continues to face — the need to rapidly expand the nation&#8217;s rate of vaccination, develop better treatments for Covid-19, and guide the nation back to the normal we all tasted earlier this summer.”

The day after the first heart-rending images of chaos amid the withdrawal aired, President Biden told the nation that he had no regrets about his decision and that the military had planned for every contingency. Minutes after he concluded his remarks, former Republican strategist Nicolle Wallace enthusiastically defended him on “Deadline: White House.”
“Ninety-five percent of the American people will agree with everything he just said. Ninety-five percent of the press covering this White House will disagree,” <a href="https://twitter.com/therecount/status/1427367860507226115">said</a> Wallace. “For an American president to finally be aligned with what such an overwhelming majority of Americans think about Afghanistan is probably a tremendous relief to the American people.”
In reality, Biden’s speech <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/friday-august-20-2021">conflated</a> leaving Afghanistan — which is politically popular — with the fall of Kabul and the Biden administration’s failure to secure Americans’ exit from the country before withdrawing all U.S. troops.

The night before New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation officially went into effect, a Democratic leader said the disgraced governor should continue to play a “productive” and “positive” role in the party’s future.
New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs made the comments on Monday night’s episode of “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” on MSNBC.
O’Donnell asked Jacobs, a Cuomo ally, what he wanted the resigned governor to do with the $18 million in campaign donations he raised. Under campaign finance law, he can’t transfer those funds to a national candidate.
“He can give it to your state Democratic Party,” O’Donnell said. “Are you going to ask him for that $18 million?”
Charities and candidates frequently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-attorney-general-vows-to-reject-all-campaign-donations-from-law-enforcement">reject</a>, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/buttigieg-campaign-returns-donations-from-two-attorneys-who-represented-kavanaugh">return</a>, or <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/06/us/politics/democrats-harvey-weinstein.html">donate</a> campaign donations from individuals they consider tainted or unsavory, rather than <a href="http://therightswriter.com/2006/04/the-capitol-police-slap-back/">solicit</a> them.
Jacobs said he would welcome the donations from Governor Cuomo. “I can share the wiring instructions with him if he would like,” quipped Jacobs. “We would be more than happy to take some of that money into the party.”
“My hope is that he is going to remain a productive and positive force in the party and in politics,” said Jacobs, before putting in a pitch for Cuomo’s remaining war chest. “And his help with those funds and other assets certainly, you know, would be something we would appreciate.”
O’Donnell asked about whether the governor, who stands accused of sexually harassing 11 women, should be able to use his financial might to punish lawmakers who held him accountable for the scandal.
“But is that, kind of, morally acceptable to the New York state Democratic Party, that Andrew Cuomo would sit there with the $18 million and dole it out to the people within the Democratic Party … [whom] he favors?” O’Donnell asked, noting the donations could set off “a grudge match against others whom he resents based on the way the last year of his career has worked out.”
“I could either live with it or not,” replied Jacobs.
Under campaign finance laws, the governor could also donate the $18 million to charity — something Jacobs said “would be a very good use of the money, as well” and which “would enhance his image and his legacy.”
O’Donnell raised another possibility: Cuomo could keep the campaign funds and wage an independent campaign for governor.
“What about the scenario in which Andrew Cuomo runs as an independent, using his $18 million. He could be the best-funded gubernatorial candidate next time around, running against a Democratic nominee that could be Governor [Kathy] Hochul at that time, or could be someone else, and a Republican nominee: Andrew Cuomo in the middle, $18 million as an independent,” he said.
Jacobs said that “would not be a good scenario for the party” or Cuomo’s former lieutenant governor, who was sworn in as governor on Tuesday.
Hochul may face a challenge from New York state Attorney General Letitia James, who released the 168-page report detailing allegations of sexual harassment by former Governor Cuomo ranging from verbal to physical. One such incident <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/completely-violated-state-trooper-describes-alleged-cuomo-incident-from-month-after-he-signed-sexual-harassment-law">involved</a> a September 2019 encounter with a state trooper, in which Cuomo allegedly walked past her and “ran the palm of his left hand across her stomach in the direction opposite the direction that he was walking.” The female trooper said that she felt “completely violated” by the governor touching her “between my chest and my privates.”
His former executive assistant, 32-year-old Brittany Commisso, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-he-did-to-me-was-a-crime-cuomo-accuser-comes-forward-after-filing-criminal-complaint">said</a> that Cuomo kissed her, grabbed her butt, and groped her breast under her shirt and over her bra.
The women’s stories make such compelling reading that Jacobs has said publicly that he believes the allegations contained in the report. Still, he said, “I feel badly for the governor because I don&#8217;t see him as a bad person at all.” Cuomo’s “legacy that certainly deserves, you know, our admiration for so many parts of it,” said Jacobs on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/brutal-takedown-of-andrew-cuomos-sexual-harassment-airs-on-cnn">August 4 episode</a> of CNN’s “Don Lemon Tonight.”
“I also pointed out,” Jacobs added, “that in American politics, you know, there’s always room for redemption.”

NY Dem Leader: Cuomo Can Be ‘Positive’ Force In Democratic Party’s Future

Last Thursday, following President Trump’s speech from the Oval Office on Wednesday night, MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell threw any idea of a come-together moment for Americans out the window in a nasty attack on the president, snapping, “More people are dead and dying in America tonight because Donald Trump is president.”
As the <a href="https://www.mrctv.org/blog/msnbcs-lawrence-odonnell-more-people-are-dead-and-dying-america-tonight-because-donald-trump">Media Research Center</a> reported, O’Donnell ranted:
<blockquote>The most incompetent and uninformed president in history has led the federal government into the worst emergency response to a pandemic that we have ever seen in this country. One of our guests will tell us that it’s one of the worst responses by any government in the world today. More people are sick in American tonight, because Donald Trump is president.
More people are dead and dying in America tonight because Donald Trump is president. More people are losing more of their life savings and retirement accounts because Donald Trump is president as we will discuss in this hour. The president’s ten-minute speech from the Oval Office last night provoked more loss of stock market value, which is to say, retirement funds, than any other speech by any other president in history. If Donald Trump had just said nothing last night, where would we be today?</blockquote>
O’Donnell wasn’t alone in his hasty attempt to vilify Trump; CNN wrote of Trump’s “half-baked policy ideas,” <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/12/opinions/oval-office-coronavirus-speech-trumps-worst-bergen/index.html">snarking</a>, “Let&#8217;s start with the big idea in Trump&#8217;s speech: Temporarily stopping Europeans from traveling to the United States. It fits with the xenophobic nature of Trump&#8217;s statement: ‘This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history.’ But the reality is that this won&#8217;t solve any of the key issues presented by the crisis … Banning travelers from Europe is a feel-good measure that will have scant effect on the virus&#8217;s transmission within our borders.”
Yet almost immediately, there was approval for Trump’s travel ban as Europe has become the epicenter for the growth of the coronavirus that Trump’s travel ban affecting Europe was the right and proper thing to do. ABC News reported last Thursday:

Redfield stated, &#8220;The real risk in general right now and this is why the president took the action he did last night within the world now over 70 percent of the new cases are linked to Europe. Europe is the new China, and that&#8217;s why the president made those statements.&#8221;
When California Democratic Rep. Jimmy Gomez asked if the European travel ban would significantly reduce the spread of community cases, Fauci answered, &#8220;A firm yes. Because if you look at the numbers it’s very clear that 70 percent of new infections in world are coming from that region, from Europe. Of the 35 or more states that have infections, 30 of them now, most recently, have gotten them from a travel related case from that region. It was pretty compelling that we needed to turn off the source from that region.
