Mass amnesty would be a slap in the face to the American people — and a betrayal of the mandate voters delivered in 2024. The American people sent Republicans to Washington to secure the border, enforce our laws, and put American workers and families first. Yet some in our own party are attempting to resurrect the deeply flawed <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/4393">DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act</a>.
This bill must die in the cradle. It is not “commonsense reform.” It is mass amnesty dressed up in deceptive language, and it undermines the agenda Americans demanded.
Sponsors of the legislation, led by Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, insist the bill is not amnesty. They claim it merely brings people “out of the shadows” with earned legal status while securing the border and protecting American workers. Rep. Mike Lawler, a vocal co-sponsor, has even touted it as a bipartisan fix that codifies tough immigration policies.
Salazar has pushed back against critics of the bill, suggesting opponents simply haven’t read the text. So let’s examine the legislation’s own provisions.
The bill’s Sections 2102-2104 establish a version of the Dream Act that grants conditional lawful permanent resident status to illegal aliens who entered the United States before age 18, have been continuously present since January 1, 2021, meet education, employment, or military service requirements, and pass background checks. DACA recipients receive an accelerated track to conditional green cards.
This is a direct path to citizenship for an estimated 2.5 million “Dreamers” who entered unlawfully as minors, eventually making them eligible for U.S. citizenship and sponsor their lawbreaking parents. The bottom line is the Dignity Act rewards breaking our laws with a clear pathway deeper into the American system.
The bill goes much further, though, in Sections 2301-2305 by creating the Dignity Program, a separate track for the estimated 10.5 million illegal aliens here prior to 2021 who do not qualify for the “Dreamer” provisions. If they pay a simple $1,000 “restitution” fee, submit biometrics, pass a background check, and have no felony convictions, they receive a 7-year renewable “Dignity status” with work and travel authorizations, which they can use existing pathways to adjust to a green card (and therefore a pathway to citizenship).
Sponsors emphasize that there is no path to citizenship and no access to most federal benefits. This is false, and the critical detail they downplay is this: qualifying for the program suspends deportation for anyone who applies and meets the basic criteria, including certain criminals. In practice, this effectively halts mass deportations for the overwhelming majority of the illegal alien population already here. In fact, Section 2204 of the bill explicitly allows illegal aliens deported on or after January 20, 2017 – the day President Trump was first inaugurated – to apply for the bill’s permanent resident status (the “dignity status” outlined above) directly from their home country and, if approved, to return to the United States as lawful permanent residents. This bill seeks to unwind the tremendous successes of President Trump in enforcing our nation’s immigration laws.
Estimates of the unauthorized population have ranged between 12 million and 20 million. The bill’s cutoffs capture nearly all long-term illegal residents, effectively legalizing their presence and shielding them from removal. Proponents call this “earned” status. Conservatives recognize it for what it is: a de facto amnesty that signals to the world that entering illegally carries little permanent consequence once you settle in.
This is unacceptable. American voters did not elect us to rubber-stamp the Biden-era border crisis or to create new legal protections that make large-scale enforcement impossible. Granting work authorization and deferred removal to millions rewards lawbreakers, undercuts wages for American blue-collar workers, and shifts enormous costs onto taxpayers for education, emergency healthcare, housing, and law enforcement. Even if the bill claims “no federal benefits,” indirect costs remain substantial, and local governments bear much of the burden.
Republicans should be expanding detention capacity and streamlining deportations — not creating new protected classes of illegal aliens.
The solution is not to legalize the problem; it is to enforce the law consistently and deter future illegal immigration. The American people understand this. Polling consistently shows strong support for enforcement first, not amnesty-first “compromises.”
As members of the House Freedom Caucus, we stand with the voters who rejected open borders and demanded accountability. We will oppose any legislation that grants mass legal status to illegal aliens, suspends deportations on this scale, or weakens our resolve to restore the rule of law. The DIGNIDAD Act is not a solution — it is a surrender. It must be rejected outright.
No amnesty. No amnesty-lite. No DIGNIDAD Act. That’s our red line.

Ana Navarro claimed that by deploying the U.S. Army National Guard to Los Angeles — amid violent riots that were targeting federal agents — President Donald Trump was using them to set a &#8220;trap&#8221; for Latinos and force them into a violent reaction.
Navarro made the comments during Monday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;The View&#8221; on ABC, as she and her cohosts attacked the Trump administration first for sending Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to enforce federal immigration laws and then for sending in the National Guard when protesters violently attacked the federal agents.
&#8220;Today, he is sending in the National Guard to attack the protesters who are there,&#8221; Navarro — who immigrated to the United States legally — said, suggesting that the point of bringing the National Guard in was for them to attack the protesters. &#8220;And look, this for me hits really close, I&#8217;m Latino, I&#8217;m an immigrant, these are my people who are getting dragged through the streets.&#8221;
She went on to warn the Latino community that Trump had sent the National Guard to goad them into committing acts of violence. &#8220;We must be strategic, we must be nonviolent. We have the right to protest, we are Americans, this is our country, we have the right to free speech, but we cannot fall into the trap that Donald Trump is setting of wanting to turn this into violent protests.&#8221;

Exit polls <a href="https://www.cnn.com/election/2024/exit-polls/national-results/general/president/0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a> Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a> managed to win majorities of Latino, black, and Asian voters in the 2024 race, but the numbers also revealed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> made gains among the key minority groups as he marched to victory and secured a second White House term.
Latinos swung more in Trump&#8217;s direction, giving him a bump of about <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/06/us/politics/donald-trump-2024-campaign-coalition.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">10 percentage points</a> in &#8220;Hispanic-majority counties&#8221; compared to four years ago when Joe Biden won the presidential election, The New York Times reported. Harris still managed to get a slight majority of their vote, but she got <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/interactive/2024/exit-polls-2024-election/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dinged on the economy</a>.
University of Houston political science professor Jeronimo Cortina <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/11/07/trump-new-record-latino-voters-exit-poll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Axios</a>: &#8220;Latinos were saying, &#8216;I don&#8217;t care what Trump says. I want to be able to pay the bills. I want to be able to send my kid to college. I want to pay the mortgage, to afford a new car.'&#8221;
Trump even managed to be the first Republican to win the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-how-badly-kamala-performed-on-election-night" target="_blank" rel="noopener">most Hispanic county</a> in the United States in more than a century: Starr County, Texas — which is about 97% Latino and is situated along the southern border with Mexico — went Trump&#8217;s way.
According to <a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-harris-trump-women-latinos-black-voters-0f3fbda3362f3dcfe41aa6b858f22d12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Associated Press</a>, Trump did slightly better with black voters. The outlet reported roughly 8 in 10 black voters supported Harris — a drop from the roughly 9 in 10 black voters who supported Biden — while Trump doubled his support among young black men.
&#8220;This election cycle, the fact that Black men have begun to be more vocal &#8230; We are willing to explore other political alternatives,” Darius Jones, founder and president of the National Black Empowerment Council, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/11/07/trump-black-latino-men-working-class-00188185" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told POLITICO</a>. &#8220;I think it’s something which, in the long run, is going to be advantageous to our community.&#8221;
<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/06/us/politics/donald-trump-2024-campaign-coalition.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Times</a> reported that majority-black counties in the swing state of Georgia — in particular: Hancock, Talbot, and Jefferson Counties — &#8220;shifted toward&#8221; Trump. He even flipped Baldwin County, which has a population that is 42% black, for the <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/trump-flips-georgia-baldwin-county-election-1981050" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first time in 20 years</a>.
An exit poll from <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/asian-americans-exit-poll-harris-trump-rcna179005" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NBC News</a> showed Trump also gained about 5 percentage points among Asian Americans, who make up the <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/asian-american-eligible-voters-grew-15-one-presidential-election-cycle-rcna133425" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fastest-growing</a> racial group of eligible voters in the United States, though Harris won 54% of their votes.

In Michigan, Trump won Dearborn and made &#8220;significant gains&#8221; in Hamtramck — two cities with the largest percentage of Arab Americans in the U.S. — as many expressed discontent with Middle East conflicts and the economy, per the <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/11/06/trump-wins-dearborn-and-makes-gains-in-hamtramck/76085841007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Detroit Free Press</a>. Jill Stein, a Green Party candidate, won more than 18% of the vote in Dearborn.
And it appears a larger share of New York&#8217;s large Jewish population backed Trump this time around. Fox News&#8217; <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/elections/2024/general-results/state/new-york" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voter analysis</a> — conducted in partnership with the AP — found 46% of Jewish voters in the blue state backed Trump while Harris got 54% support. <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/elections/2020/general-results/voter-analysis?state=NY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In 2020</a>, Trump got 37% support from Jewish voters in New York and Biden received 63%.
<a href="https://www.newsweek.com/kamala-harris-democrats-election-white-college-voters-1981832" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsweek</a> highlighted one small bright spot for Harris: marginal growth among college-educated white voters as CNN&#8217;s exit polling <a href="https://www.cnn.com/election/2024/exit-polls/national-results/general/president/0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a> Harris won 52% of their vote compared to 45% for Trump. <a href="https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/exit-polls/president/national-results" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Four years ago</a>, Biden got 51% of their vote while Trump received 48%. Trump won 57% of white voters — the largest racial voting bloc — in 2024 and 58% in 2020.

On Thursday, at a town hall for Latinos hosted by Univision, Vice President Kamala Harris was asked to explain how she ascended to the presidential nomination while the Democratic Party ousted President Joe Biden from the race.
She had no answer.
An elderly Latino man who described himself as uncertain of which way he would vote spoke of Harris gaining the nomination, saying, “It seemed something unprecedented, so close to the elections. &#8230; I am also concerned about the way I feel President Biden was pushed aside.”
“How can you clarify this whole process and how you were elected?” Harris was asked.
“First of all, thank you for being so candid and allowing me to answer the question, thank you,” Harris began. Then she offered a lengthy response that gave no clue as to how the process by which she gained the nomination came about, saying, “President Biden made a decision that I think history will show was probably one of the most courageous that a president could make, which is he decided to put country above his personal interest. And he made that decision. He very, within that same period of time, supported my candidacy and urged me to run.”

After the 1968 Democratic National Convention, where delegates who had been elected in primaries and pledged to vote for Robert Kennedy or Eugene McCarthy were outvoted by delegates in favor of Vice President Hubert Humphrey, the party rewrote the rules for delegate selection so that more delegates were chosen by primaries than by caucuses or conventions, strengthening the primaries.
Party leaders, disturbed that they were losing power, created the idea of superdelegates in 1984, giving Democrat legislators more power in the nominating process and the party more control over the choice of a presidential nominee.
This was clearly displayed in 2020 when it appeared Senator Bernie Sanders would gain the presidential nomination, but party leaders helped Joe Biden win South Carolina, thus launching him to the nomination.
Harris’ ascendancy to the presidential nomination came without winning one single primary vote. After Biden was forced out by various leaders of the party, Harris was chosen as the nominee by those leaders and was tacitly picked as the nominee even before the Democratic National Convention.

Kamala Asked What The Process Was That Got Her The Nomination. She Has No Answer.

Democrats are continuing to lose ground among Hispanic voters, which could end up hurting Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
The Cook Political Report’s <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/survey-research/cpr-national-polling-average/2024/harris-trump-overall" target="_blank" rel="noopener">database</a> of crosstabs from polls shows that Harris currently leads Trump among Hispanic voters by an average of 12 points – a significant drop from President Joe Biden’s 23-point lead among Hispanics in 2020. Biden’s lead was also a drop from Hillary Clinton’s 39-point lead in 2016.
Ruy Teixeira, a political scientist and commentator, wrote in his Liberal Patriot <a href="https://www.liberalpatriot.com/p/the-democrats-hispanic-voter-problem-373" target="_blank" rel="noopener">newsletter</a> this week that Democrats underestimate the “seriousness” of the problem for three reasons.
“(1) they don’t realize how big the shift is; (2) they don’t realize how thoroughly it undermines the most influential Democratic theory of the case for building their coalition; and (3) they believe that any Hispanic flirtation with the GOP is merely temporary—they will “come back home” to the Democrats,” he wrote.
Teixeira also noted that the U.S. Census shows that Hispanics are the largest nonwhite population in the nation – and growing. Hispanics <a href="https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045223">currently</a> account for roughly 19% of the U.S. population, with African Americans making up about 14%.
Harris is likely to still win Hispanics overall, just as Biden did in 2020, but Republicans’ continued gains among this voting bloc mean Democrats will have to make up the votes elsewhere, which may explain why so many Harris ads are focused on abortion.
Even though Biden won Hispanics in 2020, then-President Donald Trump improved his vote share in 78 of America’s 100 majority-Hispanic counties, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/donald-trump-improved-standing-with-latinos-in-78-of-americas-100-majority-hispanic-counties" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the time. In writing about the phenomenon, POLITICO’s Marc Caputo noted that Trump also did better with Hispanics “in exit polls of each of the top 10 battleground states.”
“Joe Biden still won Latino voters overall. But as post-election data trickles in, Democrats are growing concerned. Trump’s notable gains weren’t limited to Miami’s <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/04/biden-miami-cubans-election-2020-433999" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cuban Americans</a> or border-region <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/11/17/trump-latinos-south-texas-tejanos-437027" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tejanos</a>. Although <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/06/why-biden-lost-the-latino-vote-florida-texas-434735" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florida and Texas</a> stood out for the notable shift, Puerto Ricans as far away as Philadelphia and Mexican Americans in Milwaukee drifted Trump-ward,” Caputo wrote.

The trend has continued nearly four years into the Biden administration, with Hispanic support in New Mexico dropping due to their disapproval of the president, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-faces-dire-disapproval-ratings-among-hispanics-in-state-he-won-big-in-2020-poll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> earlier this year. Polls in April also showed Biden’s support for Hispanics <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-poll-shows-latinos-sour-on-biden-could-cost-him-arizona-nevada" target="_blank" rel="noopener">eroding</a>, leading to speculation Democrats could lose Nevada and Arizona – two critical swing states.
So, why are Hispanics leaving the Democrat party? This was explained following the 2020 election by Josh Zaragoza, a top Democratic data specialist in Arizona, who told POLITICO, “Most Latinos identify first as working-class Americans, and Trump spoke to that.” He also said that Hispanic men “are very entrepreneurial. Their economic language is more aligned with the way Republicans speak: pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, owning your own business.”
Further, Democrats’ embrace of socialism can turn off Hispanic voters, who often escaped socialist dictatorships.
After the 2020 election, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) said during a Democrat conference call that “Defund police, open borders, socialism — it’s killing us,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/15/us/politics/2020-election-recap-democrats-republicans.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to The New York Times</a>. Gonzalez added during that call that the “average white person” may think of Nordic countries when they hear the word “socialism,” but Asians and Hispanics associate the word with despotic “left-wing regimes.”
It appears Democrats have not learned from that call.

A new poll from the media outlet Axios found that President Joe Biden’s support among the Latino population is eroding while support for former President Donald Trump is rising.
The latest <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/04/09/biden-approval-drops-democrat-popularity-rises-latino-voters">Axios-Ipsos poll</a> found that among Latinos, Biden was only leading Trump by nine points (41-32) as opposed to Biden’s first year as president when the margin was a whopping 29 points (53-24). That could prove pivotal in swing states such as Nevada and Arizona.
“In almost every case, Trump performs better than the Republican brand and Biden performs worse than the Democratic brand,&#8221; Ipsos pollster and senior vice president Chris Jackson stated.
“Biden’s lead shrinks even further — to 3 points — among Latinos who said they plan to vote in November,” Axios reported. 11% of Latinos surveyed said they would not vote for Biden or Trump; 28% said they were still undecided.
Latinos favored Trump by 22 points regarding the U.S. economy and 11 points on fighting crime.
A <a href="https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/european-political-science-review/article/solidarity-in-question-activation-of-dormant-political-dispositions-and-latino-support-for-trump-in-2020/81B1B5FC8A04CE9D970D801FDA1D4F82">study</a> published in the European Political Science Review noted that Trump’s support among Latinos grew between 2016 and 2020, adding, “Despite his anti-immigration positions and policies, the number of votes cast for Trump unexpectedly increased among members of the group most strongly associated with the issue of immigration. &#8230; We propose a counterintuitive explanation for this trend: due to the activation of dormant political dispositions, it is the very anti-immigration attitudes characterizing Trump that account for his ascendence among Latino voters. Latinos voting for Trump did so because of his anti-immigration positions and not despite those positions.”

The last time a GOP presidential candidate won in Nevada (which has 6 electoral votes) <a href="https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/fact-brief-was-2004-the-last-time-a-republican-presidential-candidate-won-nevada">occurred</a> in 2004, when George W. Bush won 50.5% of the vote and John Kerry won 47.9% of the vote. Trump <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/3870203-these-6-states-will-determine-the-2024-presidential-election/">won</a> Arizona (which has 11 electoral votes) by 3.6% in 2016 but lost narrowly by 0.3% in 2020. Aside from 2020, the only time in the last 50 years that the GOP lost Arizona came in 1996, when Bill Clinton narrowly defeated Bob Dole.
If Trump were to win both states and retain the states he won in 2020, he would receive 249 electoral votes while Biden would win 289. Trump currently is expected to win Georgia, which has 16 electoral votes; that would put him at 265 and Biden at 273.

The Biden campaign claimed on Friday that former President Donald Trump wants to incarcerate Latinos in detention camps after Trump said he would start a mass deportation operation on his first day back in the White House if he’s elected in 2024.
Biden-Harris HQ, the X account that acts as a “project of Biden-Harris 2024,” posted an eight-second clip of Trump’s speech at an NRA event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Friday night. The Biden campaign staff captioned the clip, “Trump calls for mass detention camps and rounding up millions of Latinos.”
In the clip, Trump does not mention “Latinos” or “detention camps.” The short segment of the speech clipped by Biden-Harris HQ shows Trump telling the crowd, “And within moments of my inauguration, we will begin the largest deportation operation in American history.”

Before making his comment on deportation, Trump <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?533497-1/donald-trump-remarks-national-rifle-association-gathering" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> as president he would handle Texas’ fight to secure the southern border in the opposite way the Biden administration has dealt with it, saying, “Instead of trying to send the state of Texas a restraining order, I will send them reinforcements. They’re going to get reinforcements. They’re doing a good job.”
“And I’ll use all necessary military and law enforcement forces to defend the United States of America,” Trump added. “We’re going to be very strong.”
The Biden campaign has accused the president’s political rival of planning to “lock up millions” of people in detention camps in the past. In December, Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-enrages-the-left-with-immigration-comments-team-biden-claims-he-wants-to-lock-up-millions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">enraged</a> many on the Left, including the Biden team, with his remarks on illegal immigration when he said millions of illegal immigrants coming into the country are “poisoning the blood of our country.”
Biden’s campaign argued that Trump “parroted” Hitler and has a plan “to lock up millions of people into detention camps.”

A mother whose daughter was sentenced to 30 days in jail for falsely accusing a Hispanic couple of trying to abduct her young children says her daughter never lied to police.
Jill Turgeon, whose daughter Kathleen “Katie” Sorensen, 31, was sentenced in July to 30 days in jail with an additional 60 days to be served on a work-release program, has been trying to prove that her daughter is innocent of the crimes of which she was convicted.
“Katie is innocent. In fact, she was found innocent of 2 of the 3 charges. The charge of which she was found guilty was only related to a single detail of her report. One detail,” Turgeon told The Daily Wire in an email. She added that the accused Hispanic male’s testimony backed up what Sorensen saw that day, although it appears Sorensen misinterpreted what was happening.
Sorensen <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-instagram-influencer-charged-with-lying-after-accusing-latino-couple-of-trying-to-kidnap-her-children" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went viral</a> on social media in December 2020 when she accused a Latino couple of following her around a Michael&#8217;s craft store and attempting to kidnap her children. The accused couple, Eduardo and Sadie Martinez, insisted at the time of Sorenson’s allegations that race played a role.
Sorensen reportedly told police the couple followed her as she pushed her children in a stroller in the parking lot heading toward her car. She said the couple made comments about her children’s appearances and stood near her vehicle as she put her children inside.
Sorensen posted a video on social media a week after the alleged incident where she “included information that had not been initially presented” to police, the Petaluma Police Department said.
She claimed the man had looked at her when she was outside the store and that he and his wife followed her around the store and described her children to someone while on the phone.
“I heard them talking about the features of my children, but I was totally paralyzed with fear,” Sorensen told KTVU-TV at the time of the incident. “I just couldn’t bring myself to say anything.”
She claimed the couple followed her around the store and stood behind her in line even though they didn’t buy anything, and then followed her through the parking lot to her SUV. She said a white van was parked next to her vehicle, which was far from the store. She claimed the couple took a few steps toward her but then stepped back, saying the only explanation for this was that they “were just building the courage” for the kidnapping.
Sorensen claimed the man reached for the stroller, but an older man was nearby, who “saw what was going on, and I just yelled for help.”
She then said the couple drove off in a car, but another person came up behind her, possibly getting out of that white van.
The Martinez family said they went to Michael’s to buy decorations for a Nativity scene and “fully cooperated” with police.
In an Instagram <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvNNozegKK9/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a>, Turgeon, Sorensen’s mother, shows three surveillance footage clips from the Michael&#8217;s craft store that were presented as evidence at Sorensen’s trial. While none of the clips show an attempted kidnapping, they do show the couple moving in the way Sorensen described, which from her perspective may have looked devious when it reality it was not.
In the first clip, Sorensen is seen getting in line to checkout when the couple comes up behind her to also wait for a self-checkout lane to open. Eduardo, the husband, steps away from the line, possibly to go look at something else in the store, before returning to his wife. From Sorensen’s perspective, this was him moving around behind her and her stroller. She also reported that during this time she heard the couple talking about her children, describing their facial features. The couple said they were talking about some dolls. It could have been an innocent conversation that Sorensen misinterpreted.
In the next clip, Sorensen is seen checking out on one machine while the couple is checking out on the machine behind her. Sorensen saw Eduardo turn around to look at her and her children a couple times. He did turn around a couple times, but there’s no indication this had any ill-intent. At one point, Eduardo puts some case on the counter and continues to stand near his wife. After Sorensen pays for her items and leaves, Eduardo can be seen walking out behind her.
Eduardo reportedly testified that he always pays and then leaves his wife in the store. As Turgeon pointed out, Eduardo didn’t leave right away, but waited until Sorensen left. This is why Sorensen described him as “following” her out of the store. Surveillance footage showing them walking out of the store was not shown in court, Turgeon said. She questioned why that wouldn’t be shown when footage of her daughter and the couple entering the store was shown to a jury.
A grainy video from the parking lot then showed Sorensen at her vehicle, and the couple walking toward her SUV. The couple comes close, and then walks away, and then returns again. During this time, Sorensen said Eduardo made a motion like he was trying to grab one of her children. During the trial, Eduardo reportedly testified that he and his wife did walk near Sorensen’s car, but it was to see if a nearby restaurant was open and to decide where to eat. When they returned to the area near her car, Eduardo said he made a motion with his arm to indicate he was disappointed that the restaurant was closed. It was this motion that Sorensen wrongly interpreted as a kidnapping attempt.
In an initial interview between a police officer and the Martinezes, reviewed by The Daily Wire, it is clear that Sorensen’s story is doubted from the beginning and that police were actively looking to charge Sorensen. The law enforcement officer questioning the Martinezes even brings up the QAnon conspiracy theory that a cabal of pedophiles is operating in the U.S. – to which they respond that they don’t know anything about Sorensen. As Turgeon told The Daily Wire, neither she or her daughter “even understood fully what QAnon was.”
The police officer repeatedly mentions charging Sorensen with filing a false report and even references a “Karen” – a white woman who calls police on a black man. At one point, the Martinezes lawyer brings up the race issues, saying “you have two Latinx people accused by a white woman.” 
Turgeon told The Daily Wire that her daughter’s initial report to police mentioned a “Caucasian” woman and a &#8220;possibly Hispanic&#8221; man. Sorensen didn&#8217;t publicly mentioned the couple&#8217;s race when recounting her story.
At the end of the interview, the police officer closes the investigation into Sorensen’s claims and opens a new case to charge Sorensen with lying, even though video showed that, while Sorensen was wrong about the couple’s intent, the specific actions she reported did, in fact, occur.
The reason the story blew up as it did was due to Sorensen telling her account on social media, which led to an interview with a local news station. When the accused couple turned out to be Latino, a racial narrative was born.

A group of Hispanic Democrats in the state of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/connecticut" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Connecticut</a> introduced a bill to ban the woke term &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/latinx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Latinx</a>&#8221; from state communications.
The bill was authored by five Democratic members of the state House of Representatives, all of whom are of Hispanic descent. The bill was at least partly inspired by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders&#8217; move to ban the term &#8220;Latinx&#8221; from state government. The move also comes amid broad distaste for the word among Latinos.
The <a href="https://www.cga.ct.gov/2023/TOB/H/PDF/2023HB-06384-R00-HB.PDF" target="_blank" rel="noopener">text of the bill</a> reads:
<blockquote>[T]he general statutes [shall] be amended to prohibit any state agency, or state employee on behalf of a state agency, from using the term &#8220;Latinx&#8221; on any official communications or forms of the state agency.</blockquote>
It was introduced by five members of the state House: state Reps. Geraldo C. Reyes, Christopher Rosario, Juan R. Candelaria, Robert Sanchez, and Minnie Gonzalez.
Reyes blasted the word &#8220;Latinx&#8221; itself as a woke term that is offensive to the Constitution State&#8217;s sizeable Hispanic population; some 17.7% of the residents are Hispanic, according to the <a href="https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/CT" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Census Bureau</a>. “I’m of Puerto Rican descent and I find it offensive,” Reyes told the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/politics-connecticut-state-government-waterbury-arkansas-77817868efdbd4ee7651575acc665c6f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press</a>. “The Spanish language, which is centuries old, defaults to Latino for everybody. It’s all-inclusive. They didn’t need to create a word, it already exists.”
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/arkansas-governor-sarah-huckabee-sanders-bans-word-from-state-government-documents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">banned the word</a> from state documents in January. “All state offices, departments, and agencies, unless granted an exemption by the Governor, shall review official documents of their respective entities regarding the use of the term ‘Latinx,’ ‘latinx,’ ‘Latinxs,’ or ‘latinxs’ in official state documents,” her order stated. It also ordered agencies to identify all instances of the term in state documents, and within 60 days, replace all of them with some form of &#8220;Hispanic,&#8221; &#8220;Latino,&#8221; or &#8220;Latina.&#8221;
“This has been offensive and derogatory to all Puerto Ricans, and it’s something that hasn’t sat well with a lot of people here for a while.” Reyes added to <a href="https://www.ctinsider.com/politics/article/hispanic-lawmakers-ct-ban-latinx-arkansas-17742243.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CT Insider</a>. “When I found out that Arkansas Gov. [Sanders] banned it on her first day in the office, I saw that as an opportunity for me to do the same thing.” Reyes, however, criticized Sanders&#8217; move, saying she had &#8220;other motivations&#8221; for banning the word in Arkansas government documents.
A search on the <a href="https://portal.ct.gov/search-results/?q=Latinx#gsc.tab=0&amp;gsc.q=Latinx&amp;gsc.page=3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">state website</a> reveals that at least 920 state documents contain the word &#8220;Latinx.&#8221;
A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/only-1-of-hispanics-prefer-the-so-called-gender-neutral-term-latinx-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">national poll</a> conducted in October found that only 1% of Hispanics identify as &#8220;Latinx,&#8221; a gender-neutral term imposed on Hispanics by left-wing culture. WPA Intelligence, a conservative polling firm that collaborated with Visto Media on behalf of the Latino advocacy group Bienvenido, conducted a poll of 1,288 Hispanic registered Democrat, Republican, and Independent voters.
The poll found that the community prefers to be identified as Hispanic, while others said American or Latino.
Respondents to the poll were asked to choose from a list of options as to why many Hispanics have not embraced the term — a combined 35% of Democrats blamed Hispanics rejecting the made-up term on “machismo culture” or “too much homophobia and transphobia among Hispanics.”
Other reasons Democrats believe the term has failed to catch on with Hispanic culture range from “right-wing disinformation” or simply because Hispanics take pride in their culture as it stands. In contrast, about 14% have no idea what the term means.
Meanwhile, most Republicans said it’s because Hispanics like their culture.

To underscore the unpopularity of the so-called gender-neutral term &#8216;Latinx,&#8217; a pair of national polls found that only 1% of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hispanics">Hispanics</a> prefer the representation that woke politicians and pundits force on a culture that has survived without since its foundation.
&#8220;Latinx&#8221; emerged in recent years as an alternative to preferred identifiers such as Hispanic and Latino through propaganda from news and entertainment outlets, corporations, government agencies, and universities in a global movement to erase gender and create a non-binary future.
WPA Intelligence, a conservative polling firm that collaborated with Visto Media on behalf of the Latino advocacy group Bienvenido, conducted a poll of 1,288 Hispanic registered Democrat, Republican, and Independent voters with a 3% margin of error earlier this month.
The latest national poll found that the community prefers to be identified as Hispanic, while others said American or Latino.
&#8220;This is pretty much consistent with everything that we&#8217;ve seen from Gallup and from other polls that show most Hispanics want to be called Hispanic, and that Latin x is not very popular in our community,&#8221; Giancarlo Sopo, media strategist for the firm, told reporters last week in a presentation. &#8220;So no surprises here.&#8221;

In a separate poll also tallied earlier this month, 1,000 register voters were asked about the term Latinx.
Respondents of the poll were asked to choose from a list of options why many Hispanics have not embraced the term, a combined 35% of Democrats blamed Hispanics rejecting the made-up term on &#8216;machismo culture&#8217; or &#8216;too much homophobia and transphobia among Hispanics,&#8221; which just over half of those opinions came from college educated white Democratic women.
According to the poll, Hispanic culture has more pressing issues to worry about rather than buying into identity politics pushed by far-left extremist groups to garner votes from minorities only to renege on their empty platitudes after another elections season completes its cycle.
Issues like crime, inflation, and the Southern Border have taken the helm of what matters most to Hispanics rather than ideas presented to fuel the culture war legacy media has forced on its viewers for decades.
Hispanics with conservative or traditional cultural backgrounds prefer discussing such social policy bends at the kitchen table.
&#8220;Hispanics do not believe that topics such as gender identity and sexual orientation should be discussed with kids,&#8221; Sopo said.

Meanwhile, most Republicans said it&#8217;s because Hispanics like their culture.
The poll revealed that many Hispanic Democrats still believe left-wing disinformation from Spanish-speaking media sources, such as the false narrative police officers kill 150 or more unarmed Black men every year, the Supreme Court outlawed abortion in the nation, or former President Trump called all immigrants &#8220;animals,&#8221; rather than just referring to MS-13 gang members.
&#8220;I think a lot of the time, Democrats are too eager to brand anything and everything that they don&#8217;t like as misinformation,&#8221; Sopo said. &#8220;I&#8217;m not denying that there is misinformation in Hispanic communities — but as we saw in this poll — it is clearly not limited to right-wing sources … right-leaning audiences. There is misinformation, and I think Hispanic voters are incredibly smart and nuanced, sophisticated enough to decipher fact from fiction.&#8221;

Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) appears to be noticing the shift among Latino voters <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/10/24/1130451390/midterms-biden-democrats-republicans-latino-voters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">towards</a> the Republican Party, and is now discussing what Democrats may have done to impact that shift.
On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez appeared on the “Pod Save America” podcast and discussed the issue. 
“I can at least say with Latino voters, we’ve never tried as a party. The Democratic Party has not tried in terms of Latino electorates,” she <a href="https://thehill.com/latino/3703289-aoc-democrats-have-never-tried-with-latino-voters/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
“We really need to step up both in our efforts on campaign, but also in our efforts in governance,” she noted.
She pointed out that immigration legislation has not resulted in any serious change, even though, as The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/latino/3703289-aoc-democrats-have-never-tried-with-latino-voters/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed</a> out, immigration is typically not as important to Hispanic voters as other issues.
“And I mean, where’s our DREAM Act? Where is our immigration reform?” asked Ocasio-Cortez. “And even recently with President Biden’s marijuana executive order, I very much applaud that he went there, but he exempted people who were convicted if they were convicted while they were undocumented.” 
“We’re looking at the overwhelming majority of people who have been convicted that would have benefitted from that pardon have status, they have status complications,” Ocasio-Cortez said. 
“It’s tough because on the other side they have no qualms. They have no qualms about having an anti-immigrant message,” Ocasio-Cortez noted, adding, “But I think we get scared of that and that segmentation prevents a clear message and that lack of clarity makes it hard to win people over.”
Democrats’ draw with Latino voters has gone down by half over the past ten years, according to an NBC News/Telemundo poll from earlier this month. 
While 54% of Latino voters in the poll <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2022/10/02/democrats-latino-voters-poll-00059932" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> they’d rather see Democrats leading Congress, and 33% chose Republicans, the difference has dramatically diminished since 2012. This year, the separation between the two answers is 21 points, but in 2012, it was 42 points. 
A recent Axios-Ipsos Latino poll with Noticias Telemundo <a href="https://www.axios.com/2022/10/20/latino-voters-midterms-republicans-democrats-crime-abortion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a> that 33% of Hispanic Americans said they will vote for a Democrat in the midterm elections, while 18% said they would vote for a Republican. However, 23% have said they do not know how they will vote, which could translate to more bad news for Democrats come Election Day. 
Axios also reported that Republican Governor of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/florida" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florida</a> Ron <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/desantis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DeSantis</a> has grown in popularity among Hispanic Floridians, with his support now rising to 51% from 39% last December. Democratic Governor of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> Gavin <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/gavin-newsom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsom</a>, on the other hand, has seen his favorability drop among Latino Californians, which is currently at 55% and was at 59% last December.
