On the final day of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continued to arrest the “worst of the worst,” the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. 
Those arrested on Wednesday included men convicted of assault and other sexual offenses. ICE agents went without pay throughout the 43-day shutdown and continued to make arrests and carry out enforcement operations. 
“Thank you to every DHS team member for your dedication and resilience throughout the Democrats’ Shutdown — 43 days without pay for many of you — a hardship on your families. Your continued work and dedication to protecting our homeland are a testament to your patriotism,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said.  “You made America safer during the longest shutdown in American history.”
According to DHS, those arrested on Wednesday included:

<li>Jesser M Sandoval-Cruz, an illegal alien from Honduras, convicted of assault family/household member. </li>
<li>Felipe Antonio Ramon-Ramon, an illegal alien from Ecuador, convicted of possessing sexual performance by a child and use of a child less than 17 years of age in a sexual performance in Poughkeepsie, New York.  </li>
<li>Victor Manuel Mendoza-Garcia, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted on three counts of aggravated kidnapping/ransom in Cook County, Illinois.  </li>
<li>William Giovanni Lopez-Fuentes, an illegal alien from Guatemala, convicted of assault of a child in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.  </li>
<li>Hoang Huy Lu, an illegal alien from Vietnam, convicted of distribution of a controlled substance and dangerous drugs in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.</li>

“Thanks to law enforcement for their hard work during the government shutdown these monsters&#8211;including pedophiles, kidnappers, and drug traffickers&#8211;are out of our communities,” Noem said. “Thanks to President Trump, our government is open. Together, we will continue to deliver on our promise to the American people: securing our homeland.”
ICE agents and other federal workers will again receive pay after eight Senate Democrats joined with Republicans to pass a bill that keeps the government funded until January 30. That came after a 43-day standoff where Democrats demanded that the funding package include new funding for Obamacare subsidies.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Thursday that thousands of TSA agents would receive a $10,000 bonus check for showing “exemplary service” and “stepping up” during the government shutdown.
Noem made the announcement at a press conference, standing alongside a group of TSA agents who were among the more than one million government workers who went weeks without pay during the longest government shutdown in American history. Government workers who went without paychecks during the 44-day government shutdown are also getting back pay.
“We are not only going to continue their paychecks like they should’ve received all along, but also they’re going to receive a bonus check for stepping up, taking on extra shifts, for showing up each and every day, for serving the American people,” Noem said.

Noem added that the administration “will be looking at every single TSA official that helped serve during this government shutdown and do what we can to recognize that and help them financially with a bonus check to get them and their family back on their feet.” The Homeland Security Secretary then passed out checks to the agents standing behind her.

Airports and the airline industry were hit hard by the record-breaking government shutdown, as the federal government had to address a shortage of air traffic controllers. The Federal Aviation Administration said last week it would slash air traffic by up to 10% at 40 of the busiest airports across the country as the shutdown continued. While the shutdown officially ended on Wednesday night when President Donald Trump signed the short-term government spending bill, officials warned that air travel disruptions could continue for days.
Trump also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-floats-plan-to-reward-air-traffic-controllers-who-didnt-take-time-off-due-to-shutdown">promised</a> to hand out $10,000 bonus checks to air traffic controllers who stayed on the job during the shutdown.
“For those Air Traffic Controllers who were GREAT PATRIOTS, and didn’t take ANY TIME OFF for the ‘Democrat Shutdown Hoax,’ I will be recommending a BONUS of $10,000 per person for distinguished service to our Country,” Trump said on Monday.
Many controllers called in sick during the shutdown, with some picking up temporary jobs to cover lost income, and the president sharply criticized those absences.
“For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU,” Trump said. “You didn’t step up to help the U.S.A. against the FAKE DEMOCRAT ATTACK that was only meant to hurt our Country. You will have a negative mark, at least in my mind, against your record.”

After the Trump administration publicly shamed sanctuary cities and states, some have chosen to reverse course and work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Trump administration officially removed Nevada from its list of sanctuary jurisdictions in <a href="https://nevadacurrent.com/2025/09/26/nevada-first-state-to-be-removed-from-list-of-sanctuary-jurisdictions/">September</a> after eleven sheriffs in the Silver State recommitted to helping the feds, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X Monday.
Law enforcement agencies in sanctuary cities traditionally ignore ICE requests to hand over illegal immigrant criminals from jails, instead letting them go free. They are also barred from assisting with ICE arrests more generally.
But Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo previously blamed the state&#8217;s Democratic attorney general for making attempts &#8220;to implement sanctuary policies.&#8221; Lombardo insisted that the state has &#8220;never been a sanctuary state, and never will be&#8221; one.
Lombardo&#8217;s office asked the Trump administration to clarify the designation, according to an August statement.
In addition to recommitting their support for the feds, Nevada pledged to use FEMA funds to assist ICE and upgrade local jail cells designated for federal detainees. The state National Guard will also support ICE operations.

“When others cower, real leaders step up,” Noem wrote of Nevada’s policy reversal.
“I applaud the Nevada Sheriffs’ &amp; Chiefs’ Association and Governor @JosephMLombardo for their commitment to working with @ICEgov to protect American citizens from dangerous criminal illegal aliens,” she said, adding, “Because of their efforts, Nevada has been removed from the Trump Administration’s sanctuary jurisdiction list. I encourage every leader across our nation to follow their example so that all Americans can live in peace and safety.”
Last month, the Department of Justice removed Baltimore County from the list after the previously-designated sanctuary authorities signed an agreement with ICE.
“Despite restrictions from state leadership, Baltimore County has shown a willingness to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. This is a small step toward restoring public safety and we appreciate the county’s commitment to updating its policies,” Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward said in a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-removal-baltimore-county-sanctuary-jurisdiction-list-following">statement</a> at the time.
The Trump administration rolled out the list of sanctuary states, cities, and counties in August, threatening possible legal action against them for refusing to work with ICE.
“Sanctuary policies impede law enforcement and put American citizens at risk by design,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “The Department of Justice will continue bringing litigation against sanctuary jurisdictions and work closely with the Department of Homeland Security to eradicate these harmful policies around the country.”

Lewandowski is at odds with Trump&#8217;s Border Czar Tom Homan and Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons over the mass deportation targets, sources said. Homan and Lyons want more criminals arrested, while Lewandowski is only concerned with increasing numbers.
Border Patrol has largely made arrests during sweeps of Home Depot parking lots and car washes, facing legal backlash for the operations.
Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino is set to testify in a federal court in Chicago after he allegedly used tear gas on anti-ICE agitators in possible violation of a court order.
They&#8217;re &#8220;used to being on the border&#8221; and don&#8217;t have as much experience &#8220;working in the community,&#8221; where they must &#8220;build relationships&#8221; and develop intelligence to target the worst of the worst, said a source.
However, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said on X that &#8220;this is one team, one fight,&#8221; adding that Miller, Homan, Lyons, Bovino, Lewandowski, and ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan are &#8220;patriots who wake up every day to make this country and its people safer.&#8221;
&#8220;President Trump has a brilliant, tenacious team led by @Sec_Noem to deliver on the American people’s mandate to remove criminal illegal aliens from this country,&#8221; McLaughlin wrote.
&#8220;As we said, we have no personnel changes to announce right now but we remain laser focused on RESULTS and we will deliver,&#8221; she added.

Questions have also arisen about Lewandowski&#8217;s ability to call any shots at DHS, since his role has a 130-day limit.
By mid-August, Lewandowski, who served as Trump’s campaign manager in 2016, had logged 69 days, DHS <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/14/us-news/lewandowski-has-only-worked-69-days-under-noem-with-61-still-to-go-dhs-says-after-concerns-over-his-special-status/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/08/14/white-house-dhs-lewandowski-noem" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in August that Lewandowski was serving as Noem&#8217;s &#8220;de facto chief of staff&#8221; who &#8220;has gamed the system by undercounting his work hours to avoid leaving his unpaid job when he should have.&#8221;
This reporter observed Lewandowski introduce himself to officials in ICE&#8217;s Phoenix office as &#8220;chief of staff&#8221; while on a ride-along with Noem.
&#8220;We&#8217;re hearing that Corey&#8217;s doing everything — failing to swipe in, working from home, whatever — to undercount his days. It&#8217;s fair to say his work is being watched now,&#8221; a White House official told Axios.
&#8220;He&#8217;s lying about his special government employee status 100%,&#8221; a source told The Daily Wire.
DHS, however, dismissed the claims.
“Such an allegation that Mr. Lewandowski is using other people&#8217;s email and phones is categorically FALSE and bizarre,&#8221; McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;Mr. Lewandowski is a Special Government Employee. Mr. Lewandowski’s time is kept by a career DHS employee who submits the paperwork on a bi-weekly basis. He has completed all of the required Office of Government Ethics forms, including a full financial disclosure and any investments by his family. Mr. Lewandowski does not receive a salary or any federal government benefits. He volunteers his time to serve the American people. He serves as an advisor. The Secretary, like all previous Secretaries, has various senior advisors,&#8221; she added.

President Donald Trump also weighed in Sunday, pledging to deploy National Guard troops to the sanctuary city. He&#8217;s already attempted to send soldiers to both Portland and Chicago, which have become hotbeds for anti-ICE riots, but the deployments have been held up over ongoing lawsuits.
Over the summer, Trump deployed the National Guard and the Marines to Los Angeles to quell anti-ICE attacks, where rioters hurled concrete blocks at federal agents, set cars ablaze, and blocked major highways.
“San Francisco was truly one of the great cities of the world, and then 15 years ago it went wrong, it went woke,” Trump said during an interview with Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo Sunday.
“We’re going to San Francisco and we’re going to make it great,&#8221; said Trump.
California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom responded to Trump on X Sunday, saying &#8220;Nobody wants you here. You will ruin one of America&#8217;s greatest cities.&#8221;

The notorious Mexican drug cartels are pushing for the killings of federal agents conducting immigration raids in Chicago.
The Department of Homeland Security <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/10/14/bounties-originating-mexico-offered-shoot-ice-and-cbp-officers-chicago" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> Tuesday that there’s “credible intelligence” that the cartels are offering “domestic extremist groups” and “street gangs” large bounties to attack the federal agents.
Cartels have offered $2,000 payments for anyone who can dox federal agents, $5,000 to $10,000 to anyone who can kidnap or assault them, and a whopping $50,000 for the assassination of top immigration officials, according to DHS.
“These criminal networks are not just resisting the rule of law, they are waging an organized campaign of terror against the brave men and women who protect our borders and communities,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement Tuesday.
“Our agents are facing ambushes, drone surveillance, and death threats, all because they dare to enforce the laws passed by Congress. We will not back down from these threats, and every criminal, terrorist, and illegal alien will face American justice.”
Armed gang “spotters” have been deployed to rooftops in Chicago’s Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods to track the movements of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection officers making arrests.
A leader of the Latin Kings gang was recently arrested in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gang-leader-arrested-in-plot-to-murder-chief-of-trumps-illinois-deportation-raids">Chicago</a> after he allegedly attempted to orchestrate a murder-for-hire scheme to take out Commander at Large of the U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino.
“It’s a war zone out there,” Bovino <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6382156307112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Fox News host Sean Hannity after the threat emerged.
He added: “That’s something out of a third-world country, is this America?”
The Trump administration has sought to send in hundreds of troops amid the surge in threats, but the effort has been blocked by a judge for now amid an ongoing lawsuit from the State of Illinois.

“We’re purchasing more buildings in Chicago to operate out of. We’re gonna not back off, in fact, we’re doubling down, and we’re gonna be in more parts of Chicago in response to the people there,” Noem said during a cabinet meeting last week.
“What they’re trying to do with these riots and violence is distract us and keep us from going after those murderers and rapists that are out on the streets,” she added.

Several airports in blue cities and states are refusing to broadcast a new video of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem blasting Democrats for causing air travel delays by perpetuating the government shutdown.

The Senate is set to meet at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday evening before holding a vote at 5:30 p.m. on the House-passed continuing resolution, which would fund the government and end the shutdown.
As of Tuesday, the shutdown has lasted 14 days.

The Department of Homeland Security thanked NBC&#8217;s &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; for its sketch poking fun at Secretary Kristi Noem and her effort to recruit federal agents to join the Trump administration&#8217;s mass deportation effort.
The sketch opened with Amy Poehler as Attorney General Pam Bondi testifying at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
“My name is Pam Bondi. I spell it with an ‘i’ because I ain’t gonna answer any of your questions,” Poehler said. “My time is valuable. The DOJ has many ongoing operations, and we’re moving like Kash Patel’s eyeballs — very quickly in multiple directions at once.”
Poehler was later joined by Tina Fey, who played a dolled-up Noem donning an DHS cap and holding a rifle.
“That’s right. It’s me, Kristi Noem,” Fey said. “I spell my name with an ‘i’ because that’s how I thought it was spelled. And I’m the rarest type of person in Washington, D.C. &#8212; a brunette that Donald Trump listens to,&#8221; said Fey.
Fey also touched on Noem&#8217;s stance on the government shutdown.

The Trump administration is &#8220;doubling down&#8221; on the sanctuary city of Chicago with the opening of more Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced during Thursday&#8217;s cabinet meeting.
Noem said she toured possible new ICE sites in the Windy City on Friday. Her latest announcement comes just days after Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnson-signs-executive-order-establishing-ice-free-zones">order</a> to establish &#8220;ICE Free Zones&#8221; across the city in response to the Trump administration&#8217;s deployment of hundreds of National Guard troops.
&#8220;We&#8217;re purchasing more buildings in Chicago to operate out of. We&#8217;re gonna not back off, in fact, we&#8217;re doubling down, and we&#8217;re gonna be in more parts of Chicago in response to the people there,&#8221; said Noem.

The Trump administration flooded Illinois and Chicago with ICE and Border Patrol agents last month as part of “Operation Midway Blitz.&#8221; The effort has yielded more than 1,000 arrests.
Anti-ICE agitators have responded with efforts to block arrests of illegal immigrants roaming the streets, some of which have turned violent.

Country star Zach Bryan is pushing back after facing fierce criticism for his new anti-ICE song, “Bad News.”
The 29-year-old recording artist was criticized for the timing and message of the lyrics, as incidents of violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have been increasing. In a new Instagram Story, he insisted that people are missing the “full context” of the song.
“I love this country,” Bryan wrote in a lengthy defense of the viral track.
“My friends are all degenerates, but they’re all I got/ the generational story of dropping the plot/ I heard the cops came, Cocky motherf****s, ain’t they?” the song lyrics say. 
“And ICE is gonna come bust down your door/try to build a house no one builds no more/but I got a telephone/ Kids are all scared and all alone/The bar stopped bumping, the rock stopped rolling /the middle fingers rising, and it won’t stop showing/ Got some bad news /The fading of the red, white, and blue.”
Bryan tried to explain himself on social media.

“I served this country, I love this country and the song itself is about all of us coming out of this divided space. I wasn’t speaking as a politician or some greater-than-thou a***hole, just a 29-year-old man who is just as confused as everyone else,” the post went on. 
“To see how much sh** it stirred up makes me not only embarrassed but kind of scared. Left wing or right wing we’re all one bird and American. To be clear I’m on neither of these radical sides. He added that he’s been “scrutinized” over the last few months more than ever. He reiterated that he is “SO proud to have served in a country where we can all speak freely and converse amongst each other without getting doxxed or accosted on the internet or worse.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem weighed in on Bryan’s new song, saying it made her feel “disappointed and disheartened.”
“I hope he understands how completely disrespectful that song is, not just to law enforcement but to this country,” Noem <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1975691861525471439">told</a> conservative podcast host Benny Johnson on Tuesday. “To every single individual that has stood up and fought for our freedoms. He just compromised it all by putting out a product such as that, that attacks individuals who are just trying to make our streets safe.”

A shooter opened fire on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas Wednesday morning, killing one illegal immigrant detainee and injuring two others, according to multiple <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/dallas-ice-facility-shooting-rcna233385" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a>.
The shooter, who was <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/who-joshua-jahn-shooter-deadly-dallas-ice-facility-attack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">identified</a> by Fox News as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, opened fire at a nearby government building before turning the gun on himself, the Dallas Police Department <a href="https://x.com/DallasPD/status/1970842592418914725" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. Joseph Rothrock, the FBI Special Agent in Charge for Dallas, revealed during a press conference Wednesday that agents found &#8220;rounds&#8221; containing messages &#8220;that are anti-ICE in nature&#8221; near the shooter.
Authorities believe that Jahn was aiming his gun at a van that he believed was full of ICE officers that was actually holding detainees, federal law enforcement sources told The Daily Wire.
A photo of the rounds shared by FBI Director Kash Patel on X <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/1970874124454019204" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a> a bullet casing with the phrase &#8220;ANTI-ICE&#8221; written on it.
&#8220;While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack (see photo below). One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase &#8216;ANTI ICE,'&#8221; Patel wrote.

&#8220;These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off,&#8221; he added. &#8220;We are only miles from Prarieland Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead the these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice.&#8221;
All of the victims were ICE detainees, officials said, and no law enforcement officers were injured.
The Department of Homeland Security initially said that two ICE detainees were killed, but later walked back the statement to clarify that there was one fatality.
&#8220;The takeaway from all of this is that the rhetoric has to stop. There are people out there who are seeing what is being placed online and they&#8217;re coming and they&#8217;re doing acts of violence against ICE employees &#8230; it&#8217;s just gotta stop, it&#8217;s dangerous and people are losing their lives,&#8221; Acting Dallas ICE field office director Joshua Johnson said during Wednesday&#8217;s press conference.

An ICE facility in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/11-arrested-for-plotting-ambush-to-kill-ice-corrections-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alvarado</a>, Texas, located just outside of Dallas, was targeted by a group of leftist anarchists clad in military-style gear who threw fireworks at the building to lure officers outside before they opened fire on July 4, shooting an Alvarado police officer in the neck.
The group allegedly possessed fliers reading “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!” and “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS,” and a flag stating, “RESIST FASCISM – FIGHT OLIGARCHY.&#8221;
In a separate incident on Aug. 25, Bratton Dean Wilkinson, a 36-year-old American citizen, showed up to the ICE facility in <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/08/26/law-enforcement-arrests-suspect-who-made-bomb-threat-ice-dallas-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dallas</a> and claimed that he had a bomb in his backpack, the agency said.
Wilkinson showed a security officer a &#8220;detonator&#8221; on his wrist, prompting a lockdown at the ICE facility.
The incident comes amid a spike in left-wing political violence, with the country still reeling from the political assassination of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/charlie-kirk">Charlie Kirk</a>. Just a day before the shooting on the ICE facility, the man behind the attempted political assassination against President Donald Trump was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/attempted-trump-assassin-tries-to-stab-himself-in-neck-after-guilty-verdict?author=Tim+Pearce&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Attempted+Trump+Assassin+Tries+To+Stab+Himself+In+Neck+After+Guilty+Verdict">found guilty</a> in a Florida court.
Radical left-wing groups such as the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/socialist-rifle-association-linked-to-numerous-violent-attacks">Socialist Rifle Association</a> have been linked to numerous violent attacks in recent years, including ones against the ICE facility in Alvarado.
Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday confidently stated that the attack on ICE was &#8220;politically motivated.&#8221;
&#8220;There&#8217;s some evidence we have that&#8217;s not yet public,&#8221; Vance said. &#8220;They were politically motivated.&#8221;

At Least One Dead, Two Wounded In Targeted Attack On Dallas ICE Facility

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has cut over $30 million in &#8220;frivolous and unnecessary” government grants and contracts in the last three weeks, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire. 
The department said that it had cut a total of $31,692,166 in spending between August 22 and September 12. The savings were from de-obligated grants and contracts targeted as part of President Donald Trump&#8217;s efforts to cut down on government waste, the department told The Daily Wire.
“In just three weeks, Secretary Noem has saved the taxpayer more than $30 million. That’s more than $1 million per DAY,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, it is no longer open season on the American taxpayer at DHS. The Trump administration is draining the swamp, restoring accountability to the federal government, and putting hardworking Americans FIRST again.”
Under the Trump administration, all department contracts worth over $100,000 have to be approved by Noem.
In total, the Department of Homeland Security said it has saved over $12 billion during Noem’s tenure. In total, that equals out to saving about $50 million per day during the Trump administration.
Homeland Security also said that it was providing savings to American taxpayers by deporting illegal aliens.
“These savings figures don’t even include the additional savings from DHS’s immigration enforcement efforts since President Trump resumed office,” the department said.
According to an estimate from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, the net cost of illegal immigration on American citizens is around $150 billion per year. These costs include schooling, health care, and food assistance for illegal aliens.
“Taxes paid by illegal aliens only cover around 17.2 percent of the costs they create for American citizens, bringing the net cost to $150.7 billion a year. For every dollar in taxes paid by illegal aliens, they and their dependents consume six dollars in benefits and services,” the organization <a href="https://www.fairus.org/new-fair-report-annual-costs-illegal-immigration-soars-1507-billion-year">found</a>.
The Trump administration is looking to use new funds allocated by the Big, Beautiful Bill to help increase deportations.
