Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem promised Friday to always stand with her law enforcement amid nationwide protests targeting Immigration and Custom Enforcement officers.
Noem’s commitment comes as anti-ICE protesters across the country have popped up after a 37-year-old woman was shot in Minneapolis while driving her car toward an ICE officer. Noem has said that the woman was attempting to run down the officer and said she had engaged in an act of domestic terrorism.
“I want to take a moment to express how thankful I am every single day for the men and women who put on the badge and put their lives on the line to protect the American people,” Noem said on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. “With more than 80,000 officers and agents, our Department is the largest law enforcement agency in the federal government.”
Noem added that Americans should take time to buy law enforcement officers coffee or a meal to say thank you.
“We recognize the sacrifice you and your families make to protect and serve the American people and our great country. President Trump and I will always stand with you,” she said. “Please take some time today to thank an officer or agent today. Make them a meal, buy them a cup of coffee, or simply thank them. To every officer who puts on the badge each day: thank you. Your service is paramount to our nation’s safety.”
DHS says that its officers have faced a 1,300% increase in assaults, a 3,200% increase in vehicular attacks, and an 8,000% increase in death threats.
The agent who fatally shot the woman in Minneapolis had previously been dragged 100 yards by a vehicle driven by an illegal immigrant sex offender he was trying to take off the streets.
Despite the ongoing protests, ICE agents continued to pick up illegals on Thursdays convicted of heinous crimes. DHS told The Daily Wire they arrested the following “worst of the worst” illegals on Thursday:

American forces seized another sanctioned oil tanker early Friday morning that had departed Venezuela after dodging a United States blockade, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said.
The Coast Guard boarded the Motor Tanker Olina without incident and took control of the vessel, which was believed to be carrying embargoed oil. 
“The world’s criminals are on notice,” Noem said, sharing a video of the operation on X. “Early this morning, the [Coast Guard] executed a boarding and seizure of the Motor Tanker Olina in international waters east of the Caribbean Sea. The operation was a joint effort between the State Department, War Department, and the Department of Homeland Security. Earlier this week, the Coast Guard seized two other sanctioned oil tankers. 
“The ghost fleets will not outrun justice. They will not hide under false claims of nationality,” Noem said. “The Coast Guard will seize sanctioned oil tankers, enforce U.S. and international law, and eliminate these funding streams for illicit activity including narco-terrorism.”

U.S. Southern Command also posted footage of the seizure, noting that Marines and sailors from Joint Task Force Southern Spear were involved in the operation. The troops were launched from the USS Gerald R. Ford, Southern Command said.

On Wednesday, the Coast Guard seized two additional oil tankers, including one flying a Russian flag that had previously bypassed an American blockade. The ship, the Marinera, had been on the run for two weeks and was set to be escorted by a Russian submarine and warships. 
Russia protested the seizure, claiming that “no state has the right to use force against vessels duly registered in other states’ jurisdictions.” 
The second ship, the Bella 1, was seized after it was sanctioned for transporting oil to Iran.

Following the shooting death of anti-ICE protester Renee Good in Minneapolis, leftists have protested against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in various cities. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has directly linked this environment of animosity to the rhetoric of “sanctuary politicians” and certain media narratives.
According to <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/01/08/radical-rhetoric-sanctuary-politicians-leads-unprecedented-1300-increase-assaults">DHS data</a>, assaults against ICE agents skyrocketed by more than 1,300% during the first year of the second Trump administration. Between January 20 and December 31, 2025, physical assaults rose from 19 in the previous year to 275.
The violence has taken many forms, including a 3,200% increase in vehicular attacks, with 66 recorded incidents of suspects using cars as weapons. Death threats against agents saw a staggering 8,000% increase. Specific acts of violence reported by DHS include a sniper opening fire on a Dallas ICE facility — killing two detainees — and a gang member ramming a law enforcement vehicle into a tree. In other instances, agents were hammered in the face, bitten, or targeted with Molotov cocktails.
“This unprecedented increase in violence against law enforcement is a direct result of sanctuary politicians and the media creating an environment that demonizes our law enforcement and encourages rampant assaults against them. Dangerous criminals – whether they be illegal aliens or U.S. citizens – are assaulting law enforcement and turning their vehicles into weapons to attack law enforcement,” Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin stated. “Still, the brave men and women of DHS will not be deterred and will continue arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. ‘Kill An ICE, Save A Life’: Violent Chants Erupt At Manhattan Protest

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers nabbed 54 members and associates of the Trinitarios Dominican gang who were operating across New York, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced during a press conference Thursday.
&#8220;During our investigation, we learned that these scumbags were affiliated with the transnational criminal organization, the notorious Trinitarios gang in New York. We began to target every single last person that is affiliated with them and recognized that they needed to be brought to justice,&#8221; Noem said.
&#8220;These arrests and these removals represent a significant blow to the criminal network that has been terrorizing communities right here in New York City and throughout the United States,&#8221; she added.
Among the gangbangers were individuals accused of weapons trafficking, human smuggling, narcotics distribution, and armed robberies, Noem said.
More than 60% of them have already been deported.
Authorities discovered that the illegal migrant men responsible for shooting an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer in New York City in July were part of a notorious criminal gang, and immediately took to the streets to disrupt the criminal organization&#8217;s activities in what&#8217;s been dubbed &#8220;Operation Salvo.&#8221;
The two gang members allegedly responsible for shooting the CBP officer were released into the United States by the Biden administration before going on to commit multiple crimes, Noem said. Despite being shot in the wrist and the face while enjoying a quiet evening with a friend, the officer, who wishes to remain anonymous, fired back at the alleged assailants and miraculously survived.
The alleged shooter, Dominican Republic national Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, 21, was arrested several times in New York City and in other parts of the country before the attack, <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/21/us-news/illegal-migrant-arrested-in-nyc-shooting-of-off-duty-cpb-agent-was-free-despite-long-rap-sheet-and-suspected-in-scooter-robbery-spree-sources/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the New York Post.
In August 2024, he was arrested twice for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman and threatening to kill another migrant with a machete, according to the outlet. He was also wanted for kidnapping and weapons charges stemming from a pawn shop robbery in Massachusetts.
Meanwhile, Christhian Aybar-Berroa, 22, who was the shooter&#8217;s alleged accomplice, was arrested eight times by the NYPD and released each time after he had already received a deportation order.
Authorities said he was also a suspect in four more cases, the Post reported.
During Thursday&#8217;s presser, New York Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Ken Genalo blamed New York&#8217;s bail and sanctuary laws for the shooting.
&#8220;They provide safe haven for criminal illegal aliens,&#8221; Genalo said. &#8220;The lack of cooperation is unprecedented across the law enforcement spectrum, and rather than the city&#8217;s stated purpose to protect the immigrants of New York and the citizens of New York City, these misguided policies allow criminals to roam freely in our city, in our country, subjecting New Yorkers and all Americans to unnecessary harm.&#8221;
Noem also spoke to that issue.
&#8220;Those individuals would have never been in this country if they hadn&#8217;t been allowed in by the Biden administration when they ignored their federal laws and allowed them to come in illegally,&#8221; she said.
Noem said the operation is &#8220;just the beginning.&#8221;
&#8220;We are on offense, the Trump administration is using every single tool that we have to protect the American people,&#8221; she said.

As part of its effort to evade American sanctions, Venezuela has deployed a so-called “dark” or “shadow fleet” of oil tankers that often sail outside of legal shipping lanes and deploy false flags. The U.S. Coast Guard seized one such vessel on Wednesday after it had evaded capture last year when it sailed from Venezuela to Iran. The Trump administration is increasing their cash payments to illegal immigrants opting to self-deport from the United States from $1,000 to $3,000, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told Fox News on Monday.
In addition to footing the bill for flights, the Department of Homeland Security began offering payments of $1,000 for illegal immigrants choosing to leave the country rather than facing formal deportation in May.

“If you voluntarily want to go home now to your country, if you&#8217;re in the United States of America illegally, we will give you $3,000 through the holidays to send you home,” Noem said.
“If you wait until we interdict you and detain you and arrest you and have to deport you ourselves, you&#8217;ll never get the chance to come back,” she added.
The CBP Home app was created after the Trump administration ended the Biden-era CBP One entry program that allowed more than one million illegal immigrants into the country.

Federal officials combed through immigration court records and data kept by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to find the children, a federal government source familiar with the operation told The Daily Wire. They only counted those who showed up for their immigration hearings.

It was a massive undertaking since the Biden administration kept poor records on the children after they crossed into the United States, said the source, who was granted anonymity because they weren&#8217;t authorized to speak publicly.
&#8220;Under the Biden administration, the data was so bad, and our ability to find where these cases went was so bad, we just had to comb through every single agency to see if these kids [had] ever stepped in front of another agency,&#8221; the source explained.
&#8220;The kid had to be present [in court] for us to count it,&#8221; the source added.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration revealed it had located roughly 62,000 of the missing migrant children.
Border Patrol agents must hand unaccompanied migrant kids to the Department of Health and Human Services, which helps connect them with a sponsor living in the United States.
Under the Biden administration, roughly 500,000 migrant minors crossed the border unaccompanied. Many of them were released to poorly vetted sponsors who, whistleblowers say, never had to appear in person to prove the children were going to safe homes.
The vetting concerns were also corroborated in an inspector general&#8217;s <a href="https://www.oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/assets/2024-08/OIG-24-46-Aug24.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> released last year.
Whistleblowers said they believed some of the sponsors were traffickers and gangbangers.
Roughly 291,000 unaccompanied migrant children were never given their court dates, the government watchdog found.
Another 32,000 migrant children who had future court dates never showed up to their hearings, according to the report, which tracked cases from October 2018 to September 2023.

President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered a pause on the United States green card diversity lottery immigrant visa program, which authorities say allowed the man who killed two Brown University students and a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor to enter the country.

Authorities found Valente dead in a New Hampshire storage unit on Thursday night, from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“The Brown University shooter, Claudio Manuel Neves Valente entered the United States through the diversity lottery immigrant visa program (DV1) in 2017 and was granted a green card. This heinous individual should never have been allowed in our country,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem <a href="https://x.com/sec_noem/status/2001873077089767435?s=46&amp;t=o-U3qwC25WnWaylJ0oeG7Q">said</a> on X. “In 2017, President Trump fought to end this program, following the devastating NYC truck ramming by an ISIS terrorist, who entered under the DV1 program, and murdered eight people.”
Trump called on Congress to eliminate the visa lottery after that attack, but the effort failed.
“At President Trump’s direction, I am immediately directing USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) to pause the DV1 program to ensure no more Americans are harmed by this disastrous program,” Noem added. 
The “diversity visa” program allows up to 55,000 immigrants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States into the country every year, according to the State Department.

Valente, a lawful permanent resident, attended Brown University as a physics student in 2001 and re-entered the United States 16 years later under the diversity visa program as a green card holder. Authorities believe he acted alone and have not revealed a motive. Investigators say Valente remained at large for six days after the Brown shootings, during which he allegedly entered an engineering building and opened fire, leaving two people dead and injuring nine more. While on the run, authorities believe he fatally shot MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro at his home.
Police traced Valente to the New Hampshire storage facility after receiving a tip based on a Reddit post from someone who said they had seen the vehicle used by the gunman. “I’m being dead serious. The police need to look into a grey Nissan with Florida plates, possibly a rental,” the post said, according to a police affidavit. 
That person later came forward to the police and provided a description of Valente. He said that he asked Valente why he was circling the block near the university, to which he replied, “I don’t know you from nobody,” and “Why are you harassing me?” 
Brown University officials and police have faced scrutiny over their handling of the investigation, including questions about why more surveillance footage was not available from the campus building where the shooting occurred.
“I know this has been hard on all of us over the past five days,” Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said at a Thursday night press conference. “Minutes have felt like hours, but the people of Providence have done what we’re best at – we’ve leaned on one another, come together and supported one another, and showed the nation what a tight-knit community looks like.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said during a Sunday interview that her son was recently &#8220;pulled over&#8221; by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents — and that they had only let him go because he was able to produce his passport and confirm his identity.
Omar spoke to local CBS News affiliate WCCO in Minnesota, telling interviewer Esme Murphy that her son always carries his passport for just such an occasion.

&#8220;So your son went to Target last night with his passport?&#8221; Murphy asked.
&#8220;He always carries it with him,&#8221; Omar said.
&#8220;In case he gets pulled over?&#8221; Murphy clarified. &#8220;Which he did, by ICE.&#8221;
&#8220;Yes,&#8221; Omar replied, saying that ICE agents had also come into a mosque where her son was, but that they had left without detaining anyone. Following that incident, she said she&#8217;d &#8220;had to remind him just how worried I am, because all of these areas that they are talking about are areas where he could possibly find himself in and they are racially profiling, they are looking for young men who look Somali that they think are undocumented.&#8221;
Omar&#8217;s interview comes just days after she <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26375494-20251211-operation-metro-surge-letter/">wrote a letter</a> addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, demanding answers about ICE activities in her home state and claiming that they were driven by President Donald Trump&#8217;s &#8220;racist comments.&#8221;
&#8220;Constituents, advocates, and local officials have documented blatant racial profiling, an egregious level of unnecessary force, and activity that appears designed for social media rather than befitting a law enforcement agency,&#8221; she wrote in part. &#8220;I am demanding answers on behalf of my constituents whose constitutional rights are being violated on a daily basis.&#8221;
&#8220;It is clear to me that this surge came in direct response to Trump’s racist comments about Somali people, and about me in particular. Earlier this month, Trump called Somali immigrants &#8216;garbage&#8217; and ranted that he does not want us in this country,&#8221; she added.

Noem testified before the House Homeland Security Committee on Thursday, where she was heckled by anti-ICE protesters and questioned by lawmakers about security threats facing the United States. Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, who entered the U.S. in 2021 as part of President Joe Biden’s “Operation Allies Welcome,” allegedly shot two National Guardsmen last month as they were patrolling the streets as part of the Trump administration&#8217;s crime crackdown.
One of the soldiers, Specialist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/just-horrible-president-trump-announces-death-of-national-guard-soldier" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sarah Beckstrom</a>, 20, of the West Virginia National Guard, tragically passed away a day after the attack. Her colleague, West Virginia National Guardsman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/meet-the-hero-national-guardsmen-fighting-for-their-lives-after-dc-attack?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Meet+The+Hero+National+Guardsmen+Fighting+For+Their+Lives+After+DC+Attack" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Andrew Wolfe</a>, 24, is still recovering from his injuries.
During the attack, Lakanwal yelled “Allahu akbar!&#8221; according to court documents.
