In two clips that did not make it into Sunday&#8217;s NBC News broadcast, President Donald Trump sparred with the &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; host over the tone of her questions — and of legacy media outlets in general — and jabbed at former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over alleged insider trading.
&#8220;The media is so fake,&#8221; Trump told Welker. &#8220;Like even the way you ask questions, every question is asked in a negative vein. &#8216;There&#8217;s a toy company that took a toddler&#8217;s you know, whatever &#8230;&#8217; But you don&#8217;t talk about the fact that gasoline is down at numbers that nobody believes possible. You know why they&#8217;re down, by the way? Drill, baby, drill! We&#8217;re drilling like crazy right now.&#8221;
Welker pushed back, protesting, &#8220;We try to make sure every question is fair, Mr. President.&#8221;
&#8220;Every question you ask says a very negative slant. And I’m fine for responding to you. I don’t think you’re very difficult at all to respond to, to be honest with you. But you know what? You should ask some positive things,&#8221; Trump insisted. &#8220;Like, &#8216;Sir, it&#8217;s amazing what you&#8217;ve done with gasoline.&#8217; Because you know what? Gasoline&#8217;s big business.&#8221;

Trump also took aim at Pelosi in another clip that didn&#8217;t make it into the final broadcast, saying that someone should look into how much money she made investing while in Congress — where she potentially had access to information that the general public did not have.
Responding to a question about how he could personally profit from his time as president, Trump said, &#8220;If I own stock in something and I do a good job, and the stock market goes up, I guess I&#8217;m profiting.&#8221;
&#8220;But who really profits is somebody like Nancy Pelosi, who uses inside information,&#8221; Trump continued. &#8220;She worked for $175,000 a year, and that’s at the high end. And she’s worth $150, $200 million? Okay? You ought to look at Nancy Pelosi and you ought to look at some of these politicians that are stone cold crooks.&#8221;

President Donald Trump sat down with host Kristen Welker for a full length interview on Sunday&#8217;s &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; — and throughout the conversation, he often paused to challenge the mainstream media narratives and the framing Welker chose for her questions.
For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
Trump&#8217;s repeated jabs at Welker during the interview reflect the tone that most associated with his second administration have taken with members of the press — and the tone that Trump himself exhibited in a previous wide-ranging interview with ABC News anchor Terry Moran — making his interview the perfect summary of a week in legacy media narratives.
Welker began the interview with questions about the economy, asking Trump whether he deserved credit  — or blame — for the general direction the economy has taken during the first 100 days of his administration. The president threaded the needle a bit on that question, noting that some policy changes impact the economy more quickly than others — meaning that some of the current economic numbers were still a direct result of policies implemented by former President Joe Biden.
To Welker, who asked whether the economy was truly a Trump economy, the president replied, &#8220;I think certain aspects of it are. Costs are. I was able to get down the costs, but even that, it takes awhile to get them down but we got them down good. &#8230; We lost $5-6 billion a day [on trade] with Biden — $5-6 billion. And I&#8217;ve got that down to a great number right now in a record time.&#8221;

Welker pressed the president on the tariffs, arguing that there were some small businesses hurt by the initial impact — but Trump immediately challenged her framing of the issue.

When the topic turned to illegal immigration, Trump referenced what Attorney General Pam Bondi has labeled the &#8220;real constitutional crisis&#8221; — the fact that Democrats and a number of carefully-shopped district court judges have attempted to overwhelm the system by forcing the Trump administration to adjudicate every illegal immigrant&#8217;s individual case prior to ordering deportation.
&#8220;The big emergency right now is that we have thousands of people that we want to take out — and we have some judges that want everybody to go to court,&#8221; Trump said, arguing that based on the numbers, it would take hundreds of years to process every illegal immigrant through the court system. &#8220;We have millions of people. Welker pressed Trump on whether or not he believed everyone in the United States — whether citizen or not — was entitled to due process and the right to plead their case before a judge, and Trump&#8217;s reply was simple: &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, I&#8217;m not a lawyer.&#8221;

Welker went on to challenge Trump&#8217;s actions regarding certain political adversaries – in particular those who were directly involved in prosecuting the legal cases against him — asking whether he was making matters worse by stripping their security clearances.
&#8220;You said you wanted to unify the country. Does going after political foes undercut that goal?&#8221; she asked.
Trump, who has often said that the cases against him were entirely political in nature, said no — the goal was to make sure that the people filling such roles were &#8220;honest people.&#8221;

Welker faced blowback from Trump when the &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; moderator pressed him about the trade war with China.

&#8220;Small businesses say they are being hurt by the Chinese tariffs and some could be forced to shut down &#8230;&#8221; Welker said.
&#8220;And many businesses are being helped!&#8221; Trump interjected.

Trump discussed how United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain was &#8220;no fan&#8221; of his, but has come around and voiced <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/04/07/nx-s1-5352409/trump-auto-tariffs-uaw-shawn-fain" target="_blank" rel="noopener">support</a> for the auto tariffs.
&#8220;So why don&#8217;t you mention the big car industry instead of mentioning somebody that&#8217;s doing strollers?&#8221; Trump said.
&#8220;Well, I&#8217;m just asking you about small businesses. Are there any discussions about giving any relief to small businesses?&#8221; Welker said.
&#8220;They&#8217;re not going to need it,&#8221; Trump replied. &#8220;They&#8217;re going to make so much money if you build your product here. Remember: there are no tariffs if you build your product here. It&#8217;s very easy. It&#8217;s very simple.&#8221;
Trump also confronted Welker when the journalist asked about authoritarianism.
&#8220;Let me ask you — big picture. People who have lived in countries like the Philippines, Hungary, Russia, they look at some of your actions — going after civil service, going after universities, law firms, the media — they say it&#8217;s out of an authoritarian playbook. What do you say to those who believe you are taking the country down an authoritarian path?&#8221; Welker asked.
&#8220;Well, there you go again,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you ask it a different way? Many people want to come into our country. Many people love Trump. I won the election. They didn&#8217;t win the election. I got a lot more votes than they did. I won the popular vote. I won all seven swing states by a lot. A lot of people were surprised. They said, &#8216;I think he could win four, maybe five.&#8217; No, I won all seven, and I won by a lot. And I won. Actually, I think there was a lot of hanky panky going on but it was too big to rig. That&#8217;s the good news. It&#8217;s too big to rig. But let me just say, so when you make these statements about, &#8216;People say this –,&#8217; well, they had their chance at the election and they lost big. So you should ask the question differently.&#8221;

Before Welker could pose another question, Trump kept going.
&#8220;You should say, &#8216;What about the people that want to be in this country? What about the people that love this country?'&#8221; he said.
&#8220;Okay. But what do you say to — I&#8217;m asking it on behalf of those people to give you a chance to respond to them. What do you say to those people, sir?&#8221; Welker asked.
&#8220;Those people are going to be very happy,&#8221; Trump replied. &#8220;They&#8217;re going to have to see some results. And I think we had a great 100 days. There are a lot of people that say it was unprecedented. It was an absolutely unprecedented 100 days. And I hope that they&#8217;re going to be right.&#8221;

Secretary of State Marco Rubio fired back Sunday over a &#8220;misleading headline&#8221; that claimed President Donald Trump&#8217;s immigration officials had &#8220;deported&#8221; three American citizens, all of whom are minor children.
Rubio took issue with the claim itself, telling &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; anchor Kristen Welker that the three children were citizens and had not been deported at all, explaining that they were welcome to return to the United States at any time and had only left because their mothers — who were in the country illegally — chose to take them along when they were deported.

Welker pushed back, asking whether it was the Trump administration&#8217;s official policy to &#8220;deport&#8221; American citizens if they were children whose parents were in the country illegally and thus subject to deportation.
&#8220;Is it the U.S. policy to deport children, even U.S. citizens, with their families — and I hear what you&#8217;re saying — without due process, just to be very clear?&#8221; Welker asked.
&#8220;No, no, no,&#8221; Rubio objected. &#8220;No, no, again: if someone&#8217;s in the country unlawfully, illegally, that person gets deported. If that person is with a two-year-old child, or has a two-year-old child, and says, &#8216;I want to take my child with me,&#8217; well then what —? You have two choices. You can say, &#8216;Yes, of course you can take your child, whether they&#8217;re a citizen or not, because it&#8217;s your child.&#8217; Or you can say, &#8216;Yes, you can go, but your child must stay behind.'&#8221;
Rubio noted that would create a whole new problem, saying, &#8220;And then your headlines would read, &#8216;U.S. holding hostage two-year-old, four-year-old, seven-year-old, while mother deported.&#8217; The parents make that choice.&#8221;

He went on to note that Welker, like the anchors and many of the guests on the other networks&#8217; Sunday talk shows, had spent a fair amount of time on the Signal chat group that had included a number of top Trump administration officials — and, accidentally, Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg — in a discussion about a recent attack on Houthi terrorists.
&#8220;She doesn’t want to talk in detail about anything that matters like how well we are doing against the Houthis, substantive Peace Talks with Russia and Ukraine or, Iran, Iran, Iran,&#8221; Trump continued. &#8220;She wastes my Administration’s time by talking to them about &#8216;NOTHING.'&#8221;
&#8220;Why can’t NBC, one of the Worst Broadcasters on Television, hire people that are honest and credible?&#8221; Trump asked, before pivoting to blame leadership at the network. &#8220;The reason they don’t is because their Chairman, Brian Roberts, is a pathetic Loser, who is petrified of the Left, and always will be. Comcast’s MSNBC and NBC have fought me for years, spending almost all of their waking hours making up Fake Stories — and look, I’m PRESIDENT, with really high Poll Numbers and Great Accomplishments. Trump Trashes Kristen Welker And NBC After Sunday Appearance: 'She Wastes My Administration's Time'

President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> slammed NBC News host Kristen Welker for her obvious left-wing bias, saying that she hurts herself &#8220;badly&#8221; by not being neutral.
Trump made the remarks at two points during his interview on &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; that aired on Sunday.
The first moment came when Welker was peppering him with questions related to the Democrat-led January 6 committee in which she repeatedly interrupted him.
&#8220;It’s amazing. I wish you could be a, you know, you have such potential,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;If you could be just non-biased. You hurt yourself so badly.&#8221;

Later in the interview, Trump was talking about how he has been treated by the press.
&#8220;&#8230;the press was obviously unfair to me, the press &#8212; no president has ever gotten treated by the press like I was. And yet I got more votes than any Republican candidate in history by far.&#8221;

&#8220;The press has to straighten itself out, because honestly it’s lost all credibility,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Based on the press I should’ve gotten no votes, none. And yet I got the highest number ever.&#8221;
He then laid into Welker, &#8220;And the reason is because I’m able to go on a show even like yours, even though you’re very hostile, I’m able to go on a show like yours [Welker laughs] &#8212; no, you are.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s fair only in that you allowed me to say what I say,&#8221; he added. &#8220;But you know the answers, the questions are, you know, pretty nasty.&#8221;
