In a show of tradition and diplomatic goodwill, President Donald Trump and King Charles III exchanged symbolic gifts on Tuesday during the British monarch’s state visit.
King Charles gave Trump a historically significant, high-quality reproduction of the 1879 design plans for the Resolute Desk, which sits in the Oval Office. The 1,300-pound desk was crafted from salvaged timbers from the British ship H.M.S. Resolute, as The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/28/us/trump-king-charles-visit-gifts.html">reported</a>. The original design plans are housed at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England.
In return, Trump gifted the British Monarch a framed copy of a 1785 letter from then-U.S. ambassador to Britain John Adams to John Jay, who was serving as U.S. Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Adams, who would later become the nation’s second president, described in the letter a meeting with King George III in which both sides agreed to move forward amicably despite lingering bad feelings from the Revolutionary War. 
The exchange was widely seen as a symbolic nod to the enduring relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
First lady Melania Trump and Queen Camilla also exchanged gifts. Melania Trump presented the queen with a set of six engraved silver spoons from Tiffany &amp; Co., while Queen Camilla gifted the first lady a designer brooch.
It was also revealed this week that Trump and King Charles share a distant familial connection, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/yes-kings-trump-is-related-to-british-monarch-charles-iii">reported</a>. Research cited by The Daily Mail traces both men&#8217;s lineage back to the 3rd Earl of Lennox, a great-grandson of King James II of Scotland, making them 15th cousins.
The official White House X account highlighted the discovery, sharing a chart tracing back the ancestry research along with a screenshot of Trump&#8217;s reaction on Truth Social: “Wow, that’s nice. I always wanted to live in Buckingham Palace!!! I’ll talk to the King and Queen about this in a few minutes!!!”
King Charles and Queen Camilla are visiting the United States as the country approaches the 250th anniversary of its independence from Britain, a milestone both sides are marking as a sign of the continued strength of the transatlantic alliance. Trump has been remarkably brave when confronted with someone trying to murder him not once, not twice, but three times — first in Butler, Pennsylvania when a bullet grazed his ear after he miraculously turned his head at the precise right moment, and again on Saturday night when a gunman crashed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner armed with multiple weapons and the intent to kill the president.

The whole time the Prince of Wales can be seen looking on with a mildly sour look on his face, without cowering in fear or ducking for cover. It was later revealed that the gun was firing blanks and Kang insisted that he, &#8220;didn&#8217;t trip on the stage, [he] deliberately fell, because [he] didn&#8217;t have any intention to hurt anyone.&#8221; The would-be assassin also said the incident was very &#8220;traumatic&#8221; for him.
However, at the time, Charles and the crowd likely assumed the man was firing bullets, as evidenced by the loud gasps heard in the recording. That’s what makes the British royal’s benign reaction so impressive. 
In Butler, Trump immediately stood up after being shot with blood running down his face and was captured in one of the most iconic images in American history, fist held high while chanting, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
Then over the weekend at the WHCD, the president once again had a minor reaction to the perilous events unfolding before him. Despite a man barging into the event with the express intention of murdering him, Trump kept his cool. Images of him sitting at the head table looking calm immediately started circulating on social media.

I understand life. We live in a crazy world,” he said, “I said, ‘Wait a minute. Let me see what’s going on,’” the president added. “Then they said, ‘Please go down,’ and I dropped to the floor.”
During the same interview, he said he’d like to have the event again within 30 days and expressed no fear about the future. 
&#8220;These things have always existed,” he said of violent threats. “But we handled it, and we’re going to move forward.”
King Charles is also undeterred by the violence that unfolded over the weekend. In a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/king-charles-visit-trump-us-uk-relations/">statement</a> Sunday, the palace confirmed that their planned visit on Monday, &#8220;will proceed as planned.”

Britain’s Prince Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles, will be booted from the royal family’s mansion and stripped of his titles, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday.
The palace said in a statement that King Charles has initiated the “formal process” to have Andrew cut from the royal family and his princely title removed. Andrew&#8217;s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will also move out of the royal residence. Their daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, will retain their royal titles, according to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cnveqgj957dt?post=asset%3A97fd7fc9-3787-4ae7-b696-8224c94f9697">BBC</a>.
The remarkable move comes after a time of increased scrutiny on Andrew’s relationship with the late financier and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has been accused of sexually abusing one of the most prominent Epstein victims, Virginia Giuffre, who died earlier this year to suicide. Andrew has denied the allegations.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” the statement from Buckingham Palace <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cnveqgj957dt?post=asset%3A97fd7fc9-3787-4ae7-b696-8224c94f9697#post">says</a>.

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” it concludes.
Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, titled “Nobody’s Girl,” was published earlier this month. The book detailed Giuffre’s allegations against Andrew, going into graphic detail. In the book, Giuffre <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5ylepx85nxo">says</a> that she had sex with Andrew on three separate occasions, including during an alleged “orgy” on Epstein&#8217;s island that involved the late financier, the then-royal, and eight young girls including Giuffre.
Andrew will reportedly move to the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, a privately-owned property that is paid for by the king. Ferguson will make her own arrangements to reside in a private residence, as well.
Andrew had previously given up some of his royal titles. Weeks ago, Andrew gave up his title as the Duke of York. At the same time, Ferguson gave up her title as the Duchess of York.
Despite losing his royal title, Andrew will remain eighth in line for the throne.

A deadly car and knife attack outside a synagogue in England left two people dead Thursday, coinciding with Yom Kippur observances worldwide.
The killings took place outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester. At least three other people were seriously injured, and the suspected assailant is believed to have been shot dead by law enforcement. <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/10/02/manchester-synagogue-stabbing-police/">According</a> to The Telegraph, &#8220;Police said it had &#8216;declared Plato&#8217; &#8211; the national code-word used by police and emergency services when responding to a &#8216;marauding terror attack.'&#8221;
Police <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/10/02/manchester-synagogue-stabbing-police/">said</a> they could not currently confirm the attacker&#8217;s death “due to safety issues” surrounding “suspicious items on his person.” The attacker appears to have been wearing a suicide vest, and a bomb squad responded to the scene. He was reportedly lying on the ground outside the synagogue after being shot by police. 
Witnesses described a man driving his car into the synagogue’s gates before getting out and stabbing people around him. The doors to the synagogue were barricaded, and the attacker was unable to enter, The Telegraph reported.

“I’m appalled by the attack at a synagogue in Crumpsall,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer <a href="https://x.com/Keir_Starmer/status/1973691472235925514">said</a>. “The fact that this has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more horrific.”

The Israeli Embassy in the United Kingdom said that it was in close contact with the Jewish community in Manchester. The northwest English city is home to around 30,000 Jews. 
“That such an act of violence should be perpetrated on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, in a place of prayer and community, is abhorrent and deeply distressing,” the embassy said. “We thank the Greater Manchester Police for their swift response. The safety and security of Jewish communities in the United Kingdom must be guaranteed.”
King Charles also condemned the killings. 
“My wife and I have been deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community,” he said.

During his appearance on <a href="https://people.com/prince-harry-appear-new-documentary-phone-hacking-hugh-grant-8675884">ITV’s documentary</a> “Tabloids on Trial,” the Duke of Sussex said that he’s worried about bringing the Duchess of Sussex or any member of his family to the country without adequate security, <a href="https://people.com/prince-harry-wont-bring-meghan-markle-back-uk-dangerous-8684163?utm_campaign=people&amp;utm_content=likeshop&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=instagram">People magazine</a> noted.
&#8220;It&#8217;s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read,&#8221; Harry said.

In February, the London High Court ruled in favor of the government and found that there had been no “procedural unfairness” in how the Duke of Sussex was being treated — despite his attorney’s argument that Prince Harry still faced security threats, the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-68421992">BBC</a> reported.
Prince Harry had argued that there was unlawfulness in how he was being treated when his security protection was being made on a case-by-case basis rather than automatically being given at the same level he previously had.

Though parts of the decision were redacted, the court agreed with RAVEC’s decision, calling it “legally sound” to treat the royal’s protection the same as any other high-profile visitor to the U.K., the outlet noted.
Prince Harry has said he plans to appeal the decision after claiming that he needed the security protection for his kids, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, when they are in his native home.
&#8220;The U.K. is my home,” the royal previously said. “The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States.”
&#8220;That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil,” he added. &#8220;I can&#8217;t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I&#8217;m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm&#8217;s way too.”
The Duke of Sussex also offered to cover the costs, but earlier this year, the High Court denied his offer and <a href="https://people.com/prince-harry-loses-fight-police-protection-uk-8601439">upheld the decision to downgrade his security</a>, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/prince-harry-and-meghan-markle-learn-court-decision-about-police-protection">reported</a>.

“He stopped at the stall and said ‘Ooh sea salt’ and I said ‘Come and have a chat, Sir.’ Then his security appeared and grabbed me and said ‘He has to go, now,'&#8221; the business owner told the outlet.

The security scare reportedly ended up being a false alarm, but security tensions will reportedly remain high following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on Saturday during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, leaving one of his supporters dead along with injuring two others.

​​Former BBC Royal Correspondent Michael Cole <a href="https://www.gbnews.com/royal/king-charles-queen-camilla-security-jersey-concern">told GB News</a> there was a “heightened sense of security concern” for the king and queen after the assassination attempt on the former president.
“I’m sure there’s a sort of heightened sense of security concern because of events in America, which we know about from Saturday night,” Cole said.
“But what stands out for me is the coolness of the Queen,” he added. “She was eating an ice cream at the time, one of her aides whispered in her ear that there was a security concern, and she was taken away with the King to a nearby hotel.”
On Sunday, Trump published a <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/112784638860095397">post</a> to Truth Social that said: “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. The update comes after the palace said the King would be postponing his public duties, but working behind the scenes after his cancer diagnosis.
The latest message about King Charles&#8217; health followed a report in the <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/king-charles-funeral-plans-dusted-off-as-his-health-remains-a-mystery">Daily Beast</a> that claimed the King’s health battle wasn&#8217;t going well.
“Speaking to friends of the king in recent weeks about his health, the most common response is … ‘It’s not good,'&#8221; the outlet reported.

The monarch’s funeral plans — codenamed “Operation Menai Bridge” — are being “dusted off” and updated regularly, the outlet noted.
However, one military source said, “Planning for the worst is what the military do.”
Buckingham Palace previously announced the King’s cancer was discovered during his “hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.”
“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the <a href="https://www.royal.uk/a-statement-from-buckingham-palace-5Feb24">statement</a> read, without providing further information. “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”
“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the statement added. “The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” the statement concluded.

The 41-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/royal-family">royal family</a> member, who is first in line to the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-k">British</a> throne, made the remarks during a pre-dinner speech at a fundraiser for London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s new fleet of helicopters. The &#8220;Up Against Time&#8221; fundraising appeal was attended by “Top Gun: Maverick” star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tom-cruise">Tom Cruise</a>.
The Duke of Wales had previously taken time off following his wife’s surgery. King Charles also had surgery last month for an enlarged prostate, which was when his doctors diagnosed him with cancer.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all,” Prince William <a href="https://people.com/prince-william-tom-cruise-talk-top-gun-shoes-london-air-ambulance-charity-gala-8572206">said</a>.
He followed with a joke, saying, “It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather medical focus, so I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all.”

In Robert Hardman&#8217;s book, &#8220;<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Charles-III-Court-Inside-Story-ebook/dp/B0C242HQT2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story</a>,&#8221; the royal biographer shared how the queen&#8217;s staff discovered two private letters in one of the royal&#8217;s famous locked red boxes, the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12956529/Inside-story-late-Queens-final-farewell-Majesty-wouldnt-aware-painlessly-slipped-away-contents-never-seen-memo-moments-revealed.html">Daily Mail</a> reported.
These red boxes typically contained daily papers from ministers around the U.K. plus documents and correspondence from representatives from the Commonwealth and around the world, <a href="https://people.com/queen-elizabeth-left-behind-two-letters-deathbed-8426140?hid=4f90b78dc31e627328d98338e1fa49d03b364abc&amp;did=11617308-20240115&amp;utm_source=ppl&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=royals_newsletter&amp;utm_content=011524&amp;lctg=4f90b78dc31e627328d98338e1fa49d03b364abc">People magazine</a> noted.

The biographer said the late royal also left her list of candidates to join the Order of Merit — her final royal duty, the outlet noted.

Also revealed in the upcoming biography is a memo from the queen&#8217;s private secretary, who was at Balmoral when she died in 2022, the Daily Mail noted.

The Princess of Wales stunned in the Strathmore Rose tiara during the state banquet held at Buckingham Palace — in honor of the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife First Lady Kim Keon Hee&#8217;s state visit to the United Kingdom, <a href="https://people.com/kate-middleton-wears-rare-tiara-strathmore-rose-buckingham-palace-banquet-korea-state-visit-8404676" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a> reported.
The floral design tiara was last worn in public in the 1930’s and was part of the King Charles III&#8217;s grandmother Queen Mother&#8217;s collection, the outlet noted. Queen Mother, who died in 2002, and Middleton are the only people who have ever worn the crown in public.
&#8220;Kate [Middleton] has always signaled that she&#8217;d like to emulate the Queen Mother&#8217;s royal role, and wearing her jewels is an important symbol of that continuity,&#8221; Lauren Kiehna, founder of The Court Jeweller, told the outlet.

Middleton has worn several other crowns since her wedding day to Prince William in April 2011, which include the Lotus Flower tiara and Cartier Halo tiara.  However, the most often worn jeweled headpiece worn by the Princess would have to be the Queen Mary&#8217;s Lover&#8217;s Knot tiara which was a favorite of her late-mother-in law&#8217;s Princess Diana.
