On July 2, 2023, a member of the Secret Service discovered a bag of cocaine in the White House.
According to a new report from <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2024/08/05/former_secret_service_chief_wanted_to_destroy_cocaine_evidence_151392.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Real Clear Politics</a>, former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who was appointed to her position in 2022 partly because of her close relationship with First Lady Jill Biden, wanted to destroy the evidence. When the member of the Secret Service found the evidence, he reportedly wanted to implement a particular crime-scene investigative protocol, but was then removed from the case.
“The <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/secret-service-brief-house-committee-cocaine-found-white/story?id=101183599" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-testid="prism-linkbase">Secret Service closed its investigation</a> on July 12 after it said it could not identify a suspect,” ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/photos-show-cocaine-found-inside-white-house-complex/story?id=104874539" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The Secret Service released a statement saying:

There was no surveillance video footage found that provided investigative leads or any other means for investigators to identify who may have deposited the found substance in this area. Without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered. At this time, the Secret Service&#8217;s investigation is closed due to a lack of physical evidence.

At the time the bag was found, President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, who had a history of cocaine abuse, was staying at the White House, Real Clear Politics, which spoke with “three sources in the Secret Service community,” stated.
Cheatle had served 27 years in the Secret Service, during which she was on Jill Biden’s detail while Joe Biden was vice-president, before serving three years as senior director of global security at PepsiCo. Biden then appointed her Secret Service chief.
Jill Biden’s top aide Anthony Bernal urged Cheatle’s appointment as head of the Secret Service, The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/07/15/us-news/secret-service-director-kim-cheatle-landed-job-after-push-by-jill-bidens-office-sources/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, adding that an insider revealed, “Cheatle served on Dr. Biden’s second lady detail and Anthony pushed for her. Anthony has no national security or law enforcement experience. He should have no influence over the selection of the USSS director.”
Cheatle resigned last month after she was grilled by Congress following the Secret Service&#8217;s failure to stop a would-be assassin before he fired eight shots at former President Donald Trump, hitting him once in his right ear, in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
Hunter Biden’s ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, testified that between 2015 and 2019, “she often searched his vehicle for crack cocaine because he would let their daughters use his car. She said she found drugs or drug paraphernalia at least a dozen times,” Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/06/05/hunter-bidens-trial-drug-abuse-00161806" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
In July 2023, former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/07/15/secret-service-covering-up-wh-cocaine-for-hunter-biden-nikki-haley/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">propounded,</a> “For them to say they don’t know who this was … don’t tell me there’s no cameras in there. There are absolutely cameras in there. I strongly believe this is a coverup for either Hunter, or someone very close to the president, and they don’t want to say who it is.”

Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle announced on Tuesday that she was resigning her post after failing to stop an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump — and Trump responded in the immediate aftermath of her decision.

In addition to wounding Trump, he killed firefighter Corey Comperatore and gravely injured two others.

A whistleblower has claimed that the rooftop where a gunman shot at former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> during a campaign rally in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pennsylvania" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pennsylvania</a> was abandoned by law enforcement due to heat. 
In a Monday <a href="https://www.hawley.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Hawley-Letter-to-DHS-re-Updated-Whistleblower-Allegations.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Homeland Security Director Alejandro Mayorkas, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) said a whistleblower told his office that law enforcement was supposed to have a person stationed on the building where 20-year-old Thomas Crooks shot at Trump. Hawley said the whistleblower had direct knowledge of Secret Service plans to secure the event. During the shooting, Trump and two supporters were injured, while 50-year-old Corey Comperatore was killed. 
“Contrary to Director Cheatle’s public statements about the &#8216;safety&#8217; of the sloped roof of American Glass Research Building 6, one whistleblower with direct knowledge of Secret Service planning for the event alleges that there was supposed to be a law enforcement presence on the roof that day,” Hawley told Mayorkas. 
“In fact, the whistleblower alleges that at least one individual was specifically assigned to the roof for the duration of the rally, but this person abandoned his or her post due to the hot weather,” he added. “The whistleblower further alleges that concerns over the heat prompted law enforcement to forego patrolling Building 6 and instead to station security personnel inside the building.”
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle previously claimed that no one was stationed atop the building due to “safety” concerns about the roof&#8217;s slope. She told ABC News that the Secret Service decided to secure the inside of the structure. 
“That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,” she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/secret-service-boss-explains-why-no-one-was-stationed-on-roof-where-gunman-shot-at-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.”
On Monday, Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv7YqbA0TEk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> Cheatle during her testimony before House lawmakers if the Secret Service had a policy on sloped roofs. Cheatle replied that the agency did not. 
Fallon noted that there were counter snipers posted at the rally on a roof with a steeper slope than the rooftop where there were no law enforcement personnel. 
Cheatle has faced calls to resign over the assassination attempt, with lawmakers demanding answers on how the shooter was able to get so close to Trump and why law enforcement did not take Crooks into custody when he was spotted on the rooftop 20 minutes before the shooting.

A Secret Service sniper shot and killed the gunman from another building while other personnel rushed to protect Trump and escort him off the stage, but not before a bullet ripped through the former president&#8217;s ear. One rally-goer was killed and two others were injured.
Putting on a bipartisan front, Democrats and Republicans have called on Cheatle to resign over the incident. Mace asked Cheatle during the hearing if she would like to use her five minutes for questioning the witness to &#8220;draft&#8221; a resignation letter, but Cheatle declined.
Mace got Cheatle to say &#8220;yes&#8221; when asked whether the shooting was a &#8220;colossal failure,&#8221; whether it was preventable, and whether the Secret Service had been transparent. A Michigan Republican grilled Secret Service Director <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kimberly-cheatle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kimberly Cheatle</a> on Monday, asking her what she was &#8220;covering up&#8221; in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Trump narrowly missed being killed by a bullet to the head at Saturday’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A bullet grazed the former president’s right ear, and he ducked behind a podium before being whisked away by Secret Service agents. He raised his fist and shouted, “Fight!” as he exited the stage.
Law enforcement returned fire immediately, killing the shooter. One rally-goer was killed, and two others were injured.

McClain asked Cheatle whether the FBI had told her how many explosives were in the gunman&#8217;s car. Cheatle responded in the affirmative.
&#8220;So you know the answer to that question that my colleagues have asked you, but again you refuse to give us the answers,&#8221; McClain said.
&#8220;You&#8217;re playing, this wasn&#8217;t me. Well, I submit to you, if you can&#8217;t — and it&#8217;s not a can&#8217;t, it&#8217;s a won&#8217;t. It&#8217;s not a can&#8217;t, it&#8217;s not an &#8216;I don&#8217;t know,&#8217; it&#8217;s a &#8216;I choose not to answer the question,'&#8221; McClain continued. &#8220;Well, let me tell you, Miss Cheatle, if you&#8217;re going to lead, you need to lead. If you want to be in charge, then answer the question or step aside and have someone with the courage and the guts to answer to the American people the questions that they deserve answers to.&#8221;
Cheatle has defiantly refused to resign despite calls from both sides of the aisle demanding she do so in the wake of the assassination attempt.
Other lawmakers peppered the Secret Service director with more questions, including whether the agency had turned down requests from Trump&#8217;s security detail for more manpower.
Democrats on the panel criticized Cheatle as well. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1815419656519229738" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> a report in 60 days was &#8220;not acceptable,&#8221; and Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) <a href="https://x.com/_johnnymaga/status/1815410464672583718" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> that the Secret Service director at the time former President Ronald Reagan was shot resigned after that assassination attempt.

Angry lawmakers from both sides of the aisle questioned Cheatle during Monday&#8217;s House Oversight Committee hearing, demanding answers on what went wrong that allowed a former president to narrowly escape a bullet to the head on live television.
Jordan noted that the day after Trump was shot, a Secret Service spokesperson said it was &#8220;absolutely false&#8221; they had denied Trump&#8217;s security team&#8217;s requests for more resources. However, several days later, The Washington Post reported that top Secret Service officials had indeed repeatedly turned down Trump&#8217;s security&#8217;s requests for more personnel, Jordan said.

&#8220;Well, tell the committee which it was,&#8221; Jordan interrupted. &#8220;They asked for additional help in some form or another. You told them no. How many times did you tell them no, and what did you tell them no to?&#8221;
&#8220;Again, I cannot speak to specific incidents, but I can tell you in general terms, the Secret Service is judicious with their resources,&#8221; Cheatle responded.
&#8220;What did they ask for, and how many times did you turn them down? Pretty basic questions,&#8221; Jordan asked again.
&#8220;So again, without having all of the details in front of me, sir —&#8221; Cheatle began.
&#8220;You didn&#8217;t get briefed on that before you came to this hearing knowing you were going to get asked that question?&#8221; Jordan asked. &#8220;What a change from &#8216;absolutely false,&#8217; unequivocally false to, &#8216;oh, by the way, there were some times when we didn&#8217;t give them what they wanted.&#8217; That&#8217;s a huge change in five days, and the fact that you can&#8217;t answer how many times you did that, that&#8217;s pretty darn frustrating not just for me but for the country.&#8221;
&#8220;I hear your frustration,&#8221; Cheatle responded.
Jordan followed up again, asking if the Secret Service denied resources to Trump&#8217;s security team after they discovered an Iranian <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/07/16/iran-plot-assassinate-trump-00168830" target="_blank" rel="noopener">plot</a> to kill the former president.
Cheatle did not answer the question directly.
&#8220;Director, it looks like you won&#8217;t answer some pretty basic questions. It looks like you got a 9% raise and you cut corners when it came to protecting one of the most important individuals, most well-known individuals on the planet, a former president, likely the guy who&#8217;s going to be the next president,&#8221; Jordan said.
Cheatle has defiantly resisted calls from both sides of the aisle for her to immediately resign in the wake of the attempted assassination on July 13.
A bullet grazed Trump&#8217;s right ear while he was speaking during his rally in Pennsylvania, and he ducked behind a podium before being whisked away by Secret Service agents. He raised his fist and shouted, “Fight!” as he exited the stage.
Law enforcement returned fire immediately, killing the shooter. One rally-goer was killed, and two others were injured.

Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) called on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to step down during a Monday hearing following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The Democratic Congressman from California’s 17th Congressional district, which encompasses San Jose, pointed out during Cheatle&#8217;s testimony that she had lost the trust of a large swath of the American public after Trump was shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
“I don’t think this is partisan. If you have an assassination attempt on a president, a former president, or a candidate, you need to resign,” Khanna <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/live-updates-secret-service-director-kimberly-cheatle-testifies-before-congress?topStoryPosition=3">charged</a>.
“Would you agree that this is the most serious security lapse since President Reagan was shot in 1981,” Khanna asked Cheatle, who responded, “Yes sir, I would.”
“Do you know what Stuart Knight did?” Khanna asked, referencing the Director of the Secret Service at the time of the attempted assassination of Reagan. Cheatle responded, “he remained on duty,” before being corrected by Khanna, who fired back, “he resigned.”
Cheatle stated multiple times, however, that she would maintain her post as the Director of the Secret Service, drawing ire from Khanna. “I will remain on, and be responsible to the agency, to this committee, to the former president, and the American public,” she said.
“Do you really believe, given how divided the country is, that your service in this role is the best for the nation?” Khanna asked. “We’ve got to have agencies in this country that transcend politics, that have the confidence of Democrats, Republicans.”
“I believe, Director Cheatle, that you should resign,” Khanna added.
Khanna is not the only Democrat, however, who has called for Cheatle’s resignation. Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4785577-secret-service-kimberly-cheatle-trump-hearing/#200155">verbally sparred</a> with Cheatle, who gave a noncommittal response when Moskowitz asked whether or not she was prepared to fire Secret Service personnel.
“The reason why your name is going to be the person who’s held accountable, and the reason why members of this committee are calling for resignation — and I join in that — or for the president to fire you, is because you’re saying there’s going to be accountability, but you can’t commit that people are going to get fired,” Moskowitz stated.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-NC) gave Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle no quarter during her Monday appearance on Capitol Hill, opening her line of questions by asking whether Cheatle would like to use her allotted time to draft a resignation letter.
Cheatle, on Capitol Hill to field questions about the series of apparent security failures that culminated in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, rebuffed Mace&#8217;s offer.

&#8220;I have admitted, this is a terrible —&#8221; Cheatle tried again.
&#8220;This is a yes or no series of questions,&#8221; Mace pushed back. &#8220;Was this a colossal failure, yes or no?&#8221;
&#8220;Yes,&#8221; was Cheatle&#8217;s response.
&#8220;Was this tragedy preventable?&#8221; Mace asked. &#8220;Yes or no?&#8221;
&#8220;Yes,&#8221; Cheatle said again.
Mace went on to ask whether the Secret Service had been &#8220;transparent&#8221; with the committee, and Cheatle said that it had been.
&#8220;Would you say the fact that we had to issue a subpoena to get you to show up today was being transparent? Yes or no?&#8221;
Cheatle attempted to filibuster, but Mace stopped her.
&#8220;That is not transparent by the way,&#8221; Mace noted, adding that Cheatle had previously claimed the Secret Service was not political and then asking, &#8220;Would you say leaking your opening statement to Punchbowl News, POLITICO and Washington Post several hours before you sent it to this committee as being political, yes or no?&#8221;
Cheatle demurred: &#8220;I have no idea how my statement got out.&#8221;

Embattled U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is expected to tell Congress on Monday that her agency failed to keep former President Donald Trump safe.
Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, narrowly escaped being assassinated during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. A shooter fewer than 200 yards away on an uncovered rooftop was able to pierce Trump&#8217;s right ear with a bullet and tragically kill a Trump supporter in the crowd.
Cheatle has been under intense scrutiny since the shooting and will testify under subpoena before the House Oversight Committee. In released excerpts of her prepared testimony from the Department of Homeland Security, Cheatle admits her agency&#8217;s failure.
&#8220;The Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders. On July 13th, we failed,&#8221; Cheatle will tell Congress. &#8220;As the Director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse. As an agency, we are fully cooperating with the FBI’s investigation, the oversight you have initiated here, and conducting our own internal mission assurance review at my direction. Likewise, we will cooperate with the pending external review and the DHS Office of the Inspector General.&#8221;
The director will also vow to move &#8220;heaven and earth&#8221; to keep officials safe.
&#8220;Our mission is not political,&#8221; Cheatle will insist. &#8220;It is literally a matter of life and death, as the tragic events on July 13th remind us. I have full confidence in the men and women of the Secret Service. They are worthy of our support in executing our protective mission.&#8221;
Cheatle is expected to face questions about the glaring security lapses, including the open rooftop she claimed during an ABC News interview was too &#8220;sloped&#8221; for an agent to cover.
Questions have also been asked about the number of agents tasked with protecting Trump. Notably, the agency initially denied that the Trump team had asked for beefed-up security before the assassination attempt &#8212; only to confirm this weekend that they had indeed asked for more security.
The issue of imposed &#8220;diversity&#8221; at the agency has also come into question. The number of women, notably short women, who were on Trump&#8217;s security detail on the day of the assassination attempt has raised eyebrows. Politicos questioned how any person who is inches shorter than Trump could be expected to adequately protect him from gunfire, for example.
In response, the agency released a statement championing diversity and accusing critics of sexism. &#8220;It is an insult to the women of our agency to imply that they are unqualified based on gender,&#8221; the statement <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/after-almost-getting-trump-killed-the-secret-service-cries-about-mean-tweets" target="_blank" rel="noopener">read</a> in part. &#8220;Such baseless assertions undermine the professionalism, dedication and expertise of our workforce.&#8221;

On Monday, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) called for the resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle after the near assassination of former President Donald Trump, saying she had misled the committee by claiming Trump’s team had not requested additional security prior to the assassination attempt.
Cheatle is set to testify before the committee on Monday. She is expected to say, “The Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders. On July 13th, we failed. As the director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse,” The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/07/22/secret-service-director-kimberly-cheatle-testimony-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, adding that she will add, “We must learn what happened, and I will move heaven and earth to ensure an incident like July 13th does not happen again. Thinking about what we should have done differently is never far from my thoughts.”
“While the American people are still searching for answers, we have enough to know that Director Cheatle should no longer hold her position,” Green said in a statement. “The Committee has worked in good faith to get answers since July 13th. In response, Director Cheatle refused to testify before our Committee, and DHS has been anything but transparent or forthcoming.”
Green then adumbrated the case against Cheatle, declaring, “First, Director Cheatle argued the Secret Service could not position counter-snipers in the location of the shooter because of the angle of the roof. This was an absurd, unacceptable, and obviously unfounded excuse. Director Cheatle also misled the Committee by claiming Trump’s security detail never requested more security. It has now been reported by both the Washington Post and the New York Times, however, that the Trump detail repeatedly made requests for more resources that were denied. Lastly, Director Cheatle placed blame at the feet of local law enforcement for the failures of that day––blatantly ignoring the fact that local officers indicated ahead of time they did not have the ability to secure the building that the shooter used to fire those fateful shots.” 

“That building in particular has a sloped roof, at its highest point,” Cheatle had <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/national-security/4776617-secret-service-director-assassination-attempt-roof/">told</a> ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “And so, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof. And so, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.”
The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/07/20/trump-secret-service-security-attempted-assassination/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Saturday, “Trump advisers’ anger deepened after an agency spokesman publicly denied that any request for additional security lodged by Trump or his detail had ever been rejected. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who has been under pressure to resign over security lapses at the rally, repeated that denial in a meeting with Trump campaign leadership in Wisconsin on Monday, people familiar with the discussions said.”
The day after the attempted assassination, Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Secret Service, stated, “The assertion that a member of the former president’s security team requested additional security resources that the U.S. Secret Service or the Department of Homeland Security rebuffed is absolutely false.”
 “For more than 120 years, the Secret Service has had a no-fail mission to protect our nation’s presidents,” Green continued. “Secret Service agents put themselves in danger—sometimes at the cost of their very lives—to carry out this mission, and to protect our democratic form of government. These brave men and women deserve to be led by someone they can be confident in. Our nation deserves that. Director Cheatle has rightfully admitted the near assassination of a former president was a failure. She even <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/17/us/politics/kimberly-cheatle-secret-service.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the buck stops with her. For the good of this country, Director Cheatle must resign immediately.”
