<p>NFL MVP Cam Newton appeared to be involved in a physical confrontation over the weekend and a 7-on-7 youth football camp.</p>
<p>Some reports <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/02/25/cam-newton-brawl-football-game-tsp-crew/">said</a> that it appeared as though Newton was jumped by several men, although exact details about what happened at the event in Atlanta on Sunday are still not clear.</p>
<p>Newton — who is 6&#8217;5&#8221;, 250 pounds — can be seen in the video manhandling most of the men during the altercation.</p>
<p>USA Today <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2024/02/25/cam-newton-fight-nfl-qb-brawl/72738944007/">said</a> that Newton may have been &#8220;looking to break up a fight involving two or possibly three people before camp staffers and security officers stepped in to restore order.&#8221;</p>
<p>The fight started off near a pop up tent and ended several yards away.</p>
<p>Security officials stepped in to help break up the fight. It did not appear as though anyone was seriously hurt.</p>

A video from the event, which just started making headlines, shows an 8th-grader from SPAR Wrestling Academy and his opponent from Maine West High School finishing up on the mat during a 125-128 pound freestyle third-place match. The SPAR wrestler won in a 14-2 decision.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But just before the competitors were meant to shake hands, the losing athlete suddenly sucker-punched the winner in the head. The SPAR wrestler instantly crumpled to the floor as onlookers rushed to his side. One woman could be heard screaming, “What the f***! Oh my God” as she rushed over.</span></p>

<p>President Joe Biden took in a girls&#8217; camogie match while traveling in Ireland – and he almost got more than he bargained for when an errant ball sailed off the field and right past his head.</p>
<p>Camogie is a team sport played with a ball and sticks that vaguely resembles field hockey or lacrosse — and Biden stood alongside Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Leo Varadkar at the edge of the field near one goal, chatting as the girls from St Brigid&#8217;s GAA Club showed off their skills.</p>
<p>But then a ball — called a sliotar – got away from the girls and flew by the president&#8217;s head, just over his left shoulder. Biden turned as it flew by and started to walk toward where it had landed, apparently intending to retrieve the ball himself – but one of the players ran past him and picked it up.</p>

The fight was over before the police got to the location and most of the crowd who had been a part of it had already dissipated. <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Russell Giroux reached out for medical help, according to law enforcement personnel, and was transported to a medical center by ambulance. He was later pronounced deceased at the center.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">“Although we can not speak specifically about the events at this individual game, we would like to once again emphasize that middle and high school sports are educational and are for the benefit of the student-athletes,” Jay Nichols, the executive director of The Vermont Principals’ Association, said. “Spectators that cannot behave appropriately can be barred from events and can face criminal charges.”</p>
<p class="p1">Vermont’s medical examiner’s office will carry out an autopsy, and the state law enforcement and Grand Isle state’s attorney’s office are also looking into the man’s death.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<p class="p1">&#8220;All of us in the Maple Run Community are shocked and saddened by last night’s death of Russell Giroux after a physical altercation during a basketball game at the Alburgh Community Education Center,&#8221; Maple Run Unified School District superintendent Bill Kimball <a href="https://www.samessenger.com/news/updated-alburgh-man-is-dead-after-fight-at-boys-basketball-game/article_c6cb93ca-a23c-11ed-9a49-7f1252866a7b.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span class="s1">said</span></a>.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">“We extend our condolences and sympathies to his family and friends. Since our students observed the altercation, we are working in the next days to support our students and families in dealing with the consequences of the altercation and Mr. Giroux&#8217;s death. This morning we informed our school staff of the incident and put immediate supports in place for the students,” he added.</p>
<p class="p1">&#8220;Our immediate goal is to remind and educate our students and families that our school culture is one of family, community, and kindness,” the Grand Isle Supervisory Union superintendent Michael Clark, director of student services Nick DeVita, and Beth Hemingway, the principal, also said.</p>

60-Year-Old Man Dies Following Middle School Basketball Game Fight

<p>A 22-year-old assistant basketball coach has been fired — along with both the JV and Varsity head coaches — after she impersonated one of her junior varsity players during a game.</p>
<p>Alisha Boykins, who was an assistant coach at Churchland High School in the Portsmouth School District in Virginia, suited up and played with the team in place of a 13-year-old student who was unable to make it to their January 21 game.</p>
<p>The student, who was unaware that Boykins had <a href="https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2023/01/31/portsmouth-virginia-basketball-coach-fired-impersonating-jv-player-during-game" target="_blank" rel="noopener">impersonated her</a> until after the fact, was playing a game with a club team that night — and she and her family have since asked the coach and the school for an apology.</p>

<p>Video taken at the game shows Boykins, wearing the #1 jersey, dominating the court as she easily maneuvers around the other team, standing taller than the other girls.</p>
<p>The father of the student Boykins played for spoke to sports reporter Craig Loper II of <a href="https://www.wavy.com/sports/local-sports/22-year-old-assistant-girls-basketball-coach-impersonates-13-year-old-jv-player/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WAVY News</a> in Hampton Roads, Virginia — and he said that what surprised him the most about the situation was that something like this could happen after the coaches preached so often to the kids about having integrity.</p>
<p>&#8220;Coaches, you know, always preach to the kids about integrity and those types of things, so I was just shocked,&#8221; he said in a phone interview with Loper. &#8220;I just needed, you know, an apology because I haven’t yet received one from the overseer of the program or nothing. He just came out and just told us the stipulations of what was going to happen, but there was no apology issued personally to us, even in his presence.&#8221;</p>
<p>Boykins was fired, as were the JV head coach and the varsity head coach at the school — who had reportedly encouraged the deception. The student who was impersonated has opted not to return to Churchland High School next year.</p>
<p>The school has opened an investigation into the situation, and the other student athletes and their parents have said that they will not complete the current basketball season.</p>

<p>The city announced that it would host the free event for elementary school children from kindergarten through 5th grade on Wednesday. The event is open to &#8220;girlx&#8221; who want to get involved in local sports. The city defines the world &#8220;girlx&#8221; as all who identify “as a girl or with girlhood,&#8221; in the same vein as other gender-inclusive neologisms like &#8220;womxn&#8221; and &#8220;Latinx.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Did you know that girlx who play sports are more likely to have better grades, high levels of confidence, and develop the critical skills necessary for success in the work place?&#8221; Cambridge posted in an <a href="https://www.cambridgema.gov/News/detail?path=/sitecore/content/home/dhsp/newsandevents/news/2023/01/girlxsportsnight&amp;utm_campaign=sproutsocial&amp;utm_content=1673469802&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> for the event last week. &#8220;The fun, free event is for families with girlx (anyone who identifies as a girl or with girlhood) in Kindergarten through 5th grade. It&#8217;s an opportunity for girlx to explore new sports, learn about existing teams, and enjoy prizes, pizza, games, and hands-on demonstrations.&#8221;</p>
<p>The event is scheduled for Wednesday at the War Memorial field house, a rec center near the campus of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/from-infants-to-older-adults-harvard-medical-school-offers-class-on-transgender-medicine-across-the-lifespan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard University</a>. It is sponsored by Cambridge Commission on the Status of Women, the Office of the Mayor, and the Department of Human Services Programs.</p>

The school held a &#8220;watch party&#8221; for the show, entitled &#8220;First Day.&#8221; The drama series premiered in Australia in 2020, and tells the story of the transgender preteen who &#8220;not only has to navigate the challenges that come with starting a new school, but find the courage to live as her most authentic self,&#8221; the show&#8217;s <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10614090/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IMDb page</a> reads.</p>
<p>The TV-watching session happened during the middle school’s “Transgender Awareness Week” held from November 13 to 19. Students skipped their last two class periods that Friday to watch the show’s first two episodes.</p>
<p>The school will eventually play the entire series, Twality said in one of several PowerPoint presentations shown to students, according to a public records request viewed by The Daily Wire.</p>

<p>A Vermont high school is cracking down after female students <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/trans-inmate-moved-from-womens-prison-after-getting-2-prisoners-pregnant/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complained</a> about a <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/breaking-supreme-court-lets-trans-students-using-opposite-sex-bathrooms-ruling-stand/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transgender student</a> in their locker room — and the school&#8217;s solution is to ban the girls from their own locker room.</p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://www.wcax.com/2022/09/28/randolph-high-school-investigating-gender-locker-room-dispute/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from local CBS News outlet WCAX, the controversy arose when a transgender teammate allegedly made remarks that made some of the others on the team uncomfortable.</p>
<p>The school informed parents via email that officials were investigating claims that the girls on the team had harassed their transgender teammate. But in the interim, the transgender student is still allowed full use of the locker room while the others have been relegated to a single-stall bathroom to change one at a time.</p>

Everyone’s asking, &#8216;So, why aren’t you allowed in the locker room?'&#8221; Blake Allen, a member of the volleyball team, told reporters. &#8220;My mom wants me to do this interview to try to make a change. I feel like for stating my opinion — that I don’t want a biological man changing with me — that I should not have harassment charges or bullying charges. They should all be dropped.&#8221;</p>
<p>Allen went on to note that none of the girls on the team had taken issue with playing alongside the transgender student — or even with that student or others who are still biologically male using the female restrooms. Their sole issue was in sharing a locker room, where often they were all changing clothes together.</p>
<p>&#8220;There are biological boys that go into the girl’s bathroom but never a locker room,&#8221; Allen explained. She also said that the school&#8217;s temporary fix — having all of the girls use one single-stalled restroom while the transgender student had access to the locker room — made no sense to her.</p>
<p>&#8220;They want all the girls who feel uncomfortable — so pretty much 10 girls — to get changed in a single stall bathroom, which would take over 30 minutes. Where if one person got changed separately, it would take a minute, like no extra time,&#8221; Allen explained, arguing that it made much more sense for the one transgender student to change in the bathroom.</p>
<p>According to the Vermont Agency of Education, transgender students should not be forced to use the bathroom or locker room that does not conform to their gender identity.</p>
<p>&#8220;The use of restrooms and locker rooms by transgender students requires schools to consider numerous factors &#8230;&#8221; The AoE policy reads, but it later adds, &#8220;A transgender student should not be required to use a locker room or restroom that conflicts with the student’s gender identity.&#8221;</p>

<p>A New Jersey high school student has died after suffering a <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/record-setting-college-quarterback-colt-brennan-dead-at-37/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">traumatic brain injury</a> on the field during a <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/they-knew-damn-well-what-was-about-to-happen-nfl-star-known-for-violent-hits-condemns-kid-football-helmet-slam/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">football</a> game.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.nj.com/highschoolsports/2022/09/young-linden-football-standout-dies-of-apparent-head-trauma-from-sept-9-game.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xavier McClain</a>, a sophomore at Linden High School, was injured during a game that took place on September 9 against Woodbridge High School, and he died of his injuries just over a week later.</p>
<p>Witnesses said that McClain had been returning the kickoff at the beginning of the game&#8217;s second half when he was injured, at which point play was halted and an ambulance was called to pick him up.</p>
<p>Linden Mayor Derek Armstead, a friend of the McClain family, shared his pleas for prayer in a Facebook post on Saturday.</p>
<p>&#8220;Our good friends, Lisa &amp; Norman McClain, are asking the Linden community for prayers, nothing else, just your prayers for their son Xavier who suffered a traumatic brain injury while playing football during the LHS Tigers&#8217; game vs Woodbridge,&#8221; he said, later adding, &#8220;If you can, stop what you are doing for a minute right now and join me in a moment of silence and prayers. Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servant, and give your power of healing to those who minister to his needs, that he may be strengthened in his weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Xavier and Andres, their two sons, since they were little boys,&#8221; Armstead continued. &#8220;My wife and I spend time in their home and our children played together. Tragically, their worst fear came true. Norm and Lisa are devastated. Children are supposed to outlive their parents, not the other way around. I ask that you continue to keep the family in your prayers.&#8221;</p>

<p>Linden High School also released a statement announcing McClain&#8217;s passing, saying, &#8220;The Linden Public School district is deeply saddened by the tragic death of a Linden High School sophomore student. <p>The school has also promised to make counselors available to any students who need to speak with someone in the aftermath of the tragic accident.</p>

<p>An Orange County, California, mom has been ordered to pay more than $9,000 after instructing her daughter to sucker punch another girl on an opposing youth basketball team during a game last year.</p>
<p>A judge ruled on Wednesday that 44-year-old Latira Shonty Hunt must pay restitution and apologize to the 15-year-old girl, who sustained a concussion after the altercation.</p>
<p>In the 2021 viral <a href="https://abc7.com/garden-grove-basketball-sucker-punch-mother-sentenced-girls-punches-player/12230512/">video</a> captured at the game in Garden Grove, Hunt was heard telling her daughter, &#8220;you better hit her for that,&#8221; following an interaction between the two girls, <a href="https://abc7.com/garden-grove-basketball-sucker-punch-mother-sentenced-girls-punches-player/12230512/">ABC 7 News</a> reported.</p>
<p>Hunt&#8217;s daughter, the child of former NBA player Corey Benjamin, can be seen punching the other girl in the neck before the victim collapses on the court.</p>

<p>A month later, Hunt was charged with one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one misdemeanor count of battery.</p>
<p>&#8220;A grown adult directing a child to use violence against another child on the basketball court is reprehensible,&#8221; Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer shared in a statement to ABC 7 News.</p>
<p>&#8220;By instructing her own daughter to engage in violence, she is not only responsible for injuring an innocent child as if she punched her with her own fist, but she transformed her own child into someone who is willing to hurt another child,&#8221; the statement added.</p>
<p>The Orange County mom faced up to a year behind bars for the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/crime">charges</a>. But on Wednesday, an Orange County judge ruled that Hunt could enter a diversion program instead. She now must write an apology letter to the 15-year-old victim, her parents, and the team. She also must pay restitution. In addition, Hunt will participate in an anger management course before she&#8217;s allowed back at any games. She&#8217;s also been ordered to stay away from the victim.</p>

<p>Last Friday, a Waldorf, Maryland high school principal’s son, the volunteer track coach, was charged for sexually abusing a student.</p>
<p>According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged abuse <a href="https://www.ccso.us/press-releases/11333/">occurred</a> to a former Westlake High School student where the accused, 32-year-old Jason Roberts, began coaching in the 2017-2018 school year. His mother, Diane Roberts, has been the principal of Westlake High School since 2018.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>According to his LinkedIn, Roberts attends North Carolina Central University Law School, where he’s the vice president of the Christian Legal Society (CLS). Roberts also served as a youth leader with Victory Christian Ministries International for 13 years, where he organized Bible studies, Sunday services, and conferences.</p>
<p>In an April Facebook post, Roberts shared a picture of the Westlake Track and Field Team seniors to congratulate them on graduating.</p>
<p>“Nothing but love for my seniors over the past four years,” wrote Roberts.</p>
<p>Roberts also participated in a Black Lives Matter protest with students the weekend following George Floyd’s death. In a Facebook post, he thanked the Charles County Sheriff’s Office for allowing the protest — the same agency that announced the charges against him this past week.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>“I have to thank the professionalism of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police for allowing us the space and freedom to march out some of the pain, anger, and frustration we are feeling; they provided more support than your fearless leader of color who claims ‘Charles County Matters,’” wrote Roberts. “Also, it was great seeing a lot of students and teachers joining in solidarity this afternoon.”</p>
<p>Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Superintendent Maria Navarro said in a statement that the district removed Roberts as a coach upon learning of the charges against him. Navarro shared that Roberts had a clear background check on file with the school system. Additionally, Navarro shared that CCPS would host a public meeting to discuss the allegations against Roberts in the near future.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>“CCPS does not condone any inappropriate conduct between staff, volunteers or any other adults affiliated with the school system and students. Anytime a report is shared with us about alleged misconduct, whether it involves students and/or staff, it is provided to police for investigation,” stated Navarro. “Keeping schools, staff and students safe are the main priorities of CCPS and police are not able to investigate what they do not know.”</p>

<p>Gaines, whose coaching career spanned four decades, was the inspiration behind the popular book and film &#8220;Friday Night Lights,&#8221; where he was portrayed by actor <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/15-patriotic-movie-moments-that-will-make-you-proud-to-be-an-american/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Billy Bob Thornton</a>. His family stated that he had passed after a long battle with Alzheimer&#8217;s disease.</p>
<p>&#8220;Following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, it is with great sadness that the family of Coach Gary Gaines announces his peaceful passing this afternoon. Memorial plans will be announced in the coming days. Thank you for remembering our family in your thoughts and prayers,&#8221; the statement read.</p>
<p>Gaines&#8217; career began at Petersburg High School in Texas in 1977, after which he coached at Permian High School — where he assisted head coach John Wilkins in leading his 1980 team to the Texas 5A championship. &#8220;Friday Night Lights&#8221; follows the Permian High School team through its 1988 season.</p>

<p>Injured little leaguer <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/little-leaguer-fighting-for-his-life-after-world-series-dorm-accident-lands-him-in-a-coma/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Easton Oliverson</a> — nicknamed &#8220;Tank&#8221; — took his first steps on Friday after an accident in his dormitory landed him in a coma.</p>
<p>Oliverson, a member of the first Utah little league team to make it to the <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/watch-little-leaguer-stops-game-to-comfort-the-pitcher-who-nailed-him-in-the-head/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">World Series</a> in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, sustained a fractured skull after he fell from his bunk in the middle of the night. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery, after which he was placed in a medically-induced coma.</p>
<p>According to recent updates, however, Oliverson appears to be on the road to recovery. An Instagram post shared on Thursday revealed that he had been moved from the Intensive Care Unit to a regular hospital room — and that he had been alert and responsive and able to manage simple tasks such as feeding himself.</p>

<p>The family shared <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/20/us/little-league-world-series-easton-oliverson-saturday/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">another update</a> on Friday, noting that Oliverson still hade quite a way to go — but that he had been able to watch his team play in their first ever LLWS game.</p>
<p>&#8220;Today all of Easton’s teammates, and little brother stepped on the field and played in their first game of the Little League World Series. He was able to watch this game from his hospital room, dressed in his Mountain Region gear,&#8221; the caption read. &#8220;Rightfully so, this was a very emotional afternoon for him.&#8221;</p>
