<p>Comedian and actor Kevin Hart defended a fellow comic on Tuesday over a George Floyd joke he told at Netflix’s “Roast of Kevin Hart” earlier this month.</p>
<p>Hart said he didn’t like the joke from Tony Hinchcliffe that some people have deemed racist, but he stressed that this type of over-the-top comedy is exactly what always happens at roasts, and he will always &#8220;appreciate humor.&#8221; Hart even went as far as to say that Hinchcliffe had one of the best sets at the roast, if not the best set.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>“The George Floyd joke, it wasn&#8217;t a tasteful joke to our culture, to our audience, but … if you’re watching the roast, you get why they&#8217;re doing it,” Hart said on “The Breakfast Club.” “You get why the racial humor is on the table. I wasn&#8217;t shocked — that’s what they do! Go look at the Tom Brady [roast]. It happens every year when they do a roast.”</p>
<p>During the roast, Hinchcliffe said to Hart, “The black community is so proud of you. … Right now, George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe.”</p>
<p>“People are talking about that joke,” Hart continued. “Talk about the set! Tony Hinchcliffe arguably had the best set, or one of the best sets.”<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<p>“I&#8217;m going to appreciate humor,” the comedian continued. “I don&#8217;t get affected by the attempt of humor. I get it.”</p>
<p>Hart also went on to ask what people were looking for from him. “What is it that you expect … to take a live production and stand up and fight Tony, or have a reaction? … Tony told a joke, it wasn&#8217;t a tasteful joke to us. We didn&#8217;t like it. Okay, &#8216;Hey man, f*ck that joke!&#8217; We move on.”</p>
<p>“It literally is, either you&#8217;re a fan of this level of content, or you&#8217;re not,” he added. “And if you&#8217;re not a fan, then you don&#8217;t watch it.”</p>

<p>Hart himself had a run-in with cancel culture. Back in 2018, he was chosen to host the Oscars, but was threatened to be dropped if he didn’t make a public apology over past jokes that some deemed homophobic.</p>
<p>Though he did ultimately offer a public apology, Hart initially refused to apologize and said he had already addressed the old jokes in the past.</p>
<p>“So, I just got a call from the Academy, and that call basically said, ‘Kevin, apologize for your tweets of old or we’re gonna have to move on and find another host,’” he recalled at the time. “I chose to pass. I passed on the apology.”</p>
<p>“The reason why I passed is because I’ve addressed this several times,” he continued. “This is not the first time this has come up. I’ve addressed it. I’ve spoken on it. I’ve said where the rights and wrongs were. I’ve said who I am now versus who I was then. I’ve done it. I’m not gonna continue to go back and tap into the days of old when I’ve moved on and I’m in a completely different space in my life.”</p>
<p>“You live and you learn and you grow and you mature,” he added. “I’m in a space where all I can do is be better as a human being.”</p>
<p>Hart later said that he was sorry that he “hurt people” and was choosing not to host the Oscars so as not to be a “distraction.”</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Comedian Shane Gillis had the perfect snarky response after Chelsea Handler publicly accused him of being “racist” and “sexist” for making jokes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“This is a big moment for Chelsea. I am glad she’s capitalizing. Good for her. We’re all rooting for her. Anyway, come see me July 17th at the football stadium in Philly,” Gillis <a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/chelsea-handler-slams-shane-gillis-tony-hinchcliffe-racists-1236755525/">told</a> Variety.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The drama started after the Netflix special “The Roast of Kevin Hart,” which caused all kinds of controversy for including edgy jokes. One SNL star </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/snl-star-drops-out-of-kevin-hart-roast-complains-writers-were-too-white"><span style="font-weight: 400;">dropped out</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> because the joke style annoyed him so much. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Handler was also miffed that political correctness was not properly honored during the event, as she explained during an appearance on the podcast “Funny Knowing You.”  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It’s just everything we know: that they’re racist, that they’re bigots, that they’re sexist,” Handler said of Gillis and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe. “That they think they’re invincible.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It was gross. I don’t find those jokes to be funny — jokes about lynching black people,” the former talk show host complained. “Lynching is not a joke. That’s worse than rape. You’re not joking about rape, are you? … You know you can’t do that, but you can say ‘lynching’?”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This was in response to the joke Gillis made, saying Hart is “so short, you’d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Handler also took issue with Gillis joking about roast participant Sheryl Underwood’s husband, who died by suicide in 1990, despite him clarifying he had cleared the jokes with Underwood ahead of time. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I found them making fun of Sheryl Underwood’s dead husband who committed suicide [gross],” Handler went on. “If she says she’s fine with that, she’s fine with that. I wasn’t fine with that. I thought that was disgusting, too.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There was so much disgustingness. I knew it was going to be such a gross vibe that I would be able to elevate it, no problem,&#8221; the comedian insisted. &#8220;Kevin didn’t deserve that. He deserved an elevated roast.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hours after Handler’s podcast episode aired, Gillis put out a podcast episode of his own with Underwood as a guest. She confirmed that the jokes about her deceased husband were still fine by her. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Sometimes humor is the thing,” she told Gillis. “It’s the most uncomfortable humor that lessens the tension and the stress.”</span></p>
<p>Hart was also more than OK with all the jokes. He posted a video on Instagram following the event, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYNuiWHP6m7/">saying</a> in part, “That, my friend, is what the f*ck a roast is supposed to be — hard-hitting, relentless jokes.”</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Comedian Michael Che pulled out of “The Roast of Kevin Hart” last weekend, citing “scheduling difficulties,” then complained that the writers involved in the event were too white. He also hated their jokes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 42-year-old “Saturday Night Live” star voiced his complaints on Instagram, criticizing both the style of humor and the racial makeup of the participants involved. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“White guys and black people joke different,&#8221; Che wrote. &#8220;Black guy roast like, ‘look at this n**** shoes!’ White roasts are like, ‘Slavery, math, slain teens, sex crimes, slurs, family secrets.’ White guys don’t give a f*** about they shoes.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Che’s comments appeared to reference jokes made during the roast by host Shane Gillis, Tony Hinchcliffe, Pete Davidson, and other comedians who attended. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Gillis told jokes about Jeffrey Epstein, lynching, and slavery. He joked that Hart’s ancestors &#8220;came to America in a slave ship in a bottle,&#8221; per </span><a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/michael-che-dropped-out-kevin-hart-roast-white-writers-1236746815/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Variety</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Jeff Ross and Katt Williams joked about Hart once attending a Diddy party. Davidson and Hinchcliffe referenced the N-word but didn’t say it. Hinchcliffe also came under fire for saying to Hart, &#8220;The black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Gillis, Ross, and others joked about Hart’s late father’s addiction to crack cocaine, as the outlet noted.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Che followed up with another post criticizing event organizers for not including enough black comedians. This was after he pulled out of the event.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;&#8216;Lets do a roast celebrating the career of the most successful black comic in the last 10 years,'&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;&#8216;I love that! who should we get to write it?&#8217;” He then attached a picture showing white writers Gillis used, including Nick Mullen, J.P. McDade, Mike Lawrence, Dan St. Germain, and Zac Amico.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“C’monnnnnnnnn… that’s not funny?” Che <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DYQDRXbEfoN/?img_index=1">wrote</a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Variety reported that there were black writers on the team as well, though Che didn’t mention any of them. The post also received a community note on Instagram.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While Che didn’t appear to appreciate the roast and Floyd’s family <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/05/11/george-floyd-family-angry-over-kevin-hart-roast/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called it</a> “sad for the culture,” Hart played along and seemed amused, plus it was well-received by the audience, who were happy for comedians to start pushing boundaries again in the name of comedy. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">These types of “</span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/woke-comedy-got-steamrolled-by-a-three-hour-roast-full-of-forbidden-jokes"><span style="font-weight: 400;">forbidden jokes</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">” have been taboo for so long that hearing them again felt like a breath of fresh air. </span></p>

SNL Star Drops Out Of Kevin Hart Roast, Complains Writers Were Too White

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Celebrity roasts are often personal affairs with various personalities insulting each other viciously, usually through jokes that aren’t apparent to outsiders. They border on a class reunion coupled with a podcast. They’re not exactly “your mama so fat…” contests, but they’re close. Nevertheless, they enjoy enough appeal to continue to get airtime. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“</span><a href="https://www.netflix.com/title/82194570"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Roast of Kevin Hart</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">” was no exception — until the unannounced special guests showed up. That’s when Hart’s roast took a turn for the better. Granted, much of the show, which approached three hours in length, was terrible. Usher started things off with an adequate diss track. Tom Brady appeared as Hart was talking trash about him. He had his moments. Then Shane Gillis, who phoned it in, offered very few moments that were genuinely entertaining. Jeff Ross, whose existence seems to revolve around appearing at roasts, was meh.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ladies did set a higher bar. Regina Hall pretended to channel Hart’s mom and had her roast him from heaven. Sheryl Underwood got a standing ovation for a reason. Chelsea Handler, on the other hand, remained Chelsea Handler, reminding viewers of Krusty the Clown’s foray into </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5qAshY2jkw&amp;t=63s"><span style="font-weight: 400;">George Carlin-style standup</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Once Katt Williams came out, though, Hart’s roast got legitimately entertaining. For those who don’t follow celebrity gossip, Hart and Williams had long-running beef, stretching back years. The two often auditioned for the same roles, with Hart winning out. Williams colorfully alleged that Hart was engaged in shady dealings to get those parts. (Specifically, he’s </span><a href="https://www.bet.com/article/w55944/katt-williams-on-the-illuminati"><span style="font-weight: 400;">invoked the Illuminati</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> on more than one occasion and suggested that people like Hart are part of it.) </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He took his opportunity to dig into Hart and did not pull punches. He mocked his height, his career, and his need for the Rock to carry him along. He challenged Hart to spell “Jumanji.” He reveled in his opportunity to light up the target. It was an epic smackdown, and Hart laughed through every moment of it. Once Williams’ set was complete, Hart professed his admiration for the comedian and said he wanted “to extend an olive branch.” The two seemingly put the beef behind them.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After that, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took the stage. His absence had been noted throughout the evening. When he appeared, in what Orson Welles would call a “</span><a href="https://corvidsketcher.com/2015/08/12/the-124-year-old-movie-star/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">star part</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">,” he went savage. He also went way more R-rated than he is known for. If three hours is a bit much for you, start with Williams and enjoy the final 55 minutes to get the splendor of Williams, Johnson, and Hart’s own performance.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">All this makes one wonder why the roasts have to go on for so long before getting to the truly entertaining moments. Sure, it’s fun for friends to get together and ruthlessly insult one another. It’s a sign of affection. And it is moderately interesting to see behind the scenes, to appreciate how such a disparate group is extremely tight-knit, bonded together by their chosen profession. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But just as it’s only moderately interesting, it’s also only moderately entertaining, which is odd given the amount of effort that goes into preparing for these events. It’s not just the people on stage putting in work; there are teams </span><a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/ShaneGillis/comments/1ta4jsx/shanes_writing_staff_for_the_roast/?share_id=DroiCjZht5rHeuzua-U7X&amp;utm_content=1&amp;utm_medium=android_app&amp;utm_name=androidcss&amp;utm_source=share&amp;utm_term=1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">behind them</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. There are jokes that are </span><a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/kevin-hart-roast-netflix-best-jokes-cut-sex-tape-cheating-1236744717/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">tested and scrapped</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. That jokes are dropped is shocking, given what made it in. There were not one, but two Charlie Kirk jokes. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the other hand, poor taste was the theme of the evening, and even if boundaries were crossed, it’s refreshing to see comedians actually pushing them. While there have been bright spots along the way — Anthony Jeselnik, Ryan Long, and Ricky Gervais being notable examples — we’re finally coming out of a period in which comedy was expected to avoid anyone saying, “</span><a href="https://x.com/exjon/status/591783402015096832"><span style="font-weight: 400;">That’s not funny</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lizzo appeared on stage with a troupe of little people. Her weight was mocked. That Hart’s dad was largely a drug-addicted absentee father was a recurring joke, one framed in more than slightly racist terms. Racism, sexism, the R-word, and fat shaming are back on the menu at long last. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And the result wasn’t division; it was healing, not just between Hart and Williams, but between performers and audiences. Comedy doesn’t exist to comfort us, but to make us uncomfortable, to expose truths that are in front of our eyes just waiting to be noticed. (There’s a reason that Shakespeare used the jesters as he did.) Would it have been better if we could’ve gotten there more quickly? Sure, but the important thing is that we did, for as the Rock said during his segment, he was there “because someone needs to chew up Kevin’s food and spit it into his mouth, like a baby bird.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We as a society may not be baby birds, but sometimes we need the fools to chew up unpalatable truths and return them to us in digestible form. Viewed in that light, Hart’s roast was a success, though, again, if you’re pressed for time, use the fast-forward button as your mama bird. Hart may be short, but that’s no reason for his roast to run so long.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Kevin Hart’s plant-based fast-food chain suddenly closed all its locations in the Los Angeles area two years after it opened, with only a message on Instagram about starting a “new chapter.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In a post last week on social media from the account of Hart House, the vegan fast food chain owned by the 45-year-old comedian, a message read, “A Hartfelt goodbye for now as we start a new chapter,” </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">the </span><a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/13/business/kevin-harts-la-plant-based-fast-food-restaurants-suddently-closes-all-locations-just-two-years-after-opening/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">New York Post</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> reported.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Thank you,” it added. “To our team, guests, and community, who helped make the change we all craved.”</span></p>

<p>Hart then joked that he had to post something before Ridley did, adding, &#8220;Me and Stevan got into a little debate. This debate was based off who&#8217;s faster. Those that know me know, I&#8217;m pretty fast. <p>The retired Miami Dolphins linebacker mentioned his yearly excursion during an appearance alongside Hart on &#8220;The Pivot&#8221; podcast, and Hart — clearly confused — followed the revelation with a series of stilted questions and double takes.</p>

<p>&#8220;What&#8217;s going on?&#8221; Hart interrupted, shaking his head.</p>
<p>&#8220;We go to a place where, like, you walk in, and everybody just gets naked and runs around,&#8221; Crowder tried again.</p>
<p>&#8220;I heard you say it,&#8221; Hart shot back, appearing to struggle as he tried to come up with a question that made sense. &#8220;I&#8217;m asking — I&#8217;m just asking you what&#8217;s going on.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Okay, yeah. So we go to the nudist colony and you know, we just kind of go around, you gotta shave everything and show out,&#8221; Crowder explained. &#8220;And especially when you shave your sh**, it looks bigger because you gain inches from no hair.&#8221;</p>
<p>The whole time Crowder was speaking, Hart stared at him, clearly still not wrapping his brain around what was happening.</p>
<p>&#8220;Back up for a second. I just wanna get clarity. Y’all just hanging out or y’all f***ing these people like what–&#8221; Hart tried to make it make sense.</p>
<p>&#8220;No, no, there are swingers there, but you set the precedent when you get there,&#8221; Crowder clarified, seeming to indicate that while some of the attendees were swingers, he and his wife were not.</p>
<p>&#8220;So y’all get down?&#8221; Hart asked, his brow wrinkled in confusion.</p>
<p>&#8220;We don’t get down, but we just like to be around naked people together,&#8221; Crowder replied, prompting a laugh from podcast cohost Fred Taylor.</p>
<p>&#8220;You hear what you’re saying out loud?&#8221; Hart asked, still apparently not satisfied with the explanation thus far.</p>
<p>&#8220;You don’t like to be around naked people?&#8221; Crowder asked.</p>
<p>Hart was clearly not convinced: &#8220;Be honest with you I have no desire to be around a bunch of people I don’t know, just sitting there naked.&#8221;</p>

<p>Comedian Dave Chappelle dropped in on a surprised and apparently delighted New York City audience on Saturday, appearing as the unannounced opening act for fellow comedians Chris Rock and Kevin Hart for their &#8220;Only Headliners Allowed&#8221; tour stop at Madison Square Garden.</p>

<p>&#8220;Had to sneak my way in here,&#8221; Chappelle reportedly told the audience by way of explanation, walking out to Radiohead&#8217;s &#8220;Karma Police.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Despite what you may have read about in the news, I’m OK, and I appreciate the support,&#8221; he added.</p>

<p>Superstars Kevin Hart and Dwayne &#8220;The Rock&#8221; Johnson hilariously took on the latest trend on TikTok called &#8220;The Tortilla Challenge&#8221; in a video posted Wednesday on Instagram that&#8217;s since gone viral.</p>
<p>In a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CgPcsH_MwqG/">clip</a> posted on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kevin-hart-discusses-cancel-culture-when-did-we-get-to-a-point-where-life-was-supposed-to-be-perfect">43-year-old</a> comedian&#8217;s social media account, Hart introduced what he and &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/great-stuff-here-brother-dwayne-the-rock-johnson-stands-with-joe-rogan">The Rock</a>&#8221; were up to as the two stand there holding green tortillas. The &#8220;Night School&#8221; star discussed how the two had &#8220;seen the kids playing this game&#8221; in which they &#8220;slap each other&#8221; with tortillas while holding a gulp of water in their mouths.</p>
<p>He captioned his post, &#8220;If this s*** don&#8217;t make you laugh then something is physically wrong with you. I have been wanting to do this for years….I got to live out my dream and smack the living s*** out of @therock …&#8221;</p>

<p>Before the two start, Hart has to scold Johnson for the way he was first holding the tortilla, saying he had to hold it loosely because he didn&#8217;t want &#8220;The Rock&#8221; to &#8220;f***ing knock me out.&#8221;</p>
<p>Johnson responded, telling Hart not to use &#8220;your hand,&#8221; warning him not to screw around and &#8220;put his whole hand back there.&#8221;</p>
<p>The two then each take a big gulp of water and hold it. They rock, paper, scissors to see who will go first, and Hart wins. Holding back laughter, he swings and hits Johnson. To say the &#8220;Red Notice&#8221; star looked mad would be putting it mildly.</p>
<p>&#8220;You slapped the ever loving s*** out of me!&#8221; Johnson replied. Holding his cheek he reluctantly agrees to continue.</p>
<p>The pair rock, paper, scissors again, and Hart wins again. Still both holding in water, The Rock takes another hit. This time the comedian is barely hanging on and is clearly dying of laughter. At first he looked ready to burst out laughing, and not long after does so as he spits out the water.</p>
<p>Johnson responds, &#8220;So I win now,&#8221; because Hart spilled his water first.</p>
<p>Johnson&#8217;s &#8220;Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle&#8221; co-star then said he&#8217;s a &#8220;good f***ing partner&#8221; and would let The Rock &#8220;get a smack&#8221; in. The two were both clearly having way too much fun.</p>
<p>&#8220;Well this is us trying to keep up with the younger generation,&#8221; Kevin concludes in the video, with Johnson saying in the background, &#8220;Never again&#8230; My f***ing ear drum is bleeding.&#8221;</p>
